Unfortunately Overrated. Was not clear how this was a Michelin level restaurant. I feel like I’m missing something. Nothing memorable

The reason for the 3 stars is that although the food was good overall as was the service. I was not that impressed with the atmosphere - overlay basic and small. Most importantly, I, personally, felt it was overpriced for what I got.

This is legit - full disclosure it was my first Michelin Star restaurant experience and it did not disappoint. It's a very intimate experience; you get very close with the chefs and really into their vision of the food. The food, of course, was exceptional and everything you would expect from a restaurant of this caliber. Chef Mark and Chef Jen are great people too and have a very interesting story that they tell through the food and dining experience. HIGHLY recommended!

A nice meal if it were half the price. For a couple to have omakase + champagne flight + sake flight and sparkling water, it was not worth $496. The service was rushed (even though we arrived on time) and not the personal experience described by other reviewers. The food did not melt in your mouth like high end restaurants. I was disappointed in the birthday experience I was trying to provide. I have lived in big cities where this place would not make it a year in business.

Amazing experience at Kadence recently, greeted by the incredible team including little sous chef Romeo who kept smiles on our faces all night. Intimate setting and a diverse, filling tasting menu for $75 per person, will be back soon for the longer omakase dinner.

Review №17

If you have never had omakase, I would recommend Kadence as an experience, and only that. The atmosphere, staff, service, and sake is excellent. Unfortunately, the food itself was disappointing. Portions are small, but can be expected as it is omakase. The various dishes themselves are good, but comparable to any other authentic Japanese restaurant. You will only enjoy the food if you already have a taste for very traditional Japanese food. The food is good for the experience but much is left to be desired, and I certainly didn't enjoy it overall. Some dishes had too few flavours, while others had way too many competing rich flavours.

Overall, Kadence is good if you want to impress someone with a price tag, but the food won't blow you away, and you may feel like you didn't get your money's worth.

Review №18

As an experience, Kadence is amazing. The food falls short. The service, personality, intimacy and setting is exceptional. We had the tasting menu plus the sake pairing. The sake and their presentation and explanation was excellent, and actually a decent value. The only thing that fell short was the actual sushi. It was fine, and with the very high price tag, I struggle to say that it’s worth it. The quality did not seem to be any higher than another much less expensive sushi restaurant. It comes up short in quantity as well. We ended up getting del taco after as we were still hungry.

Unfortunately, our visit to Kadence left us deeply disappointed. While the sushi was undoubtedly exquisite, the atmosphere was tainted by an incident where the chef took offense to a light-hearted joke made by my husband. His reaction, pulling out a knife, was not only alarming but completely uncalled for. Such behavior is not befitting of a Michelin-starred establishment. We expected professionalism and courtesy, not rudeness and arrogance. It's a shame that an otherwise promising dining experience was marred by such strange and unsettling behavior.

Let me start by saying it was a new concept they were trying out, and I hope it gets better. The sushi, sashimi and duck were great but the overall meal felt lackluster. I've only been to a few Michelin star rated restaurants and the experiences always blew my socks off. This was not the case. We felt like we had been duped and something was missing.

Kadence is a dinning experience like no other! The food is incredible and the service is exceptional. Hands down the best sushi and meal experience I have ever had!

You park in front of the unmarked black building and walk into a small bar area where you can enjoy some sake before your dinner experience.

Next you move into the dining room which seats 8 guests. This is where you will enjoy the multi-course chef selected menu with the highest quality seafood. Each course is beautifully plated. You can ask the chef questions as he prepares each sashimi and explains the fish selection. Your mouth will explode with delight! We were also gifted a take home bag with breakfast for the morning!

They were able to accommodate a salmon allergy for someone in our part. We communicated the allergy in advance via email.

Reservations are required and they book well in advance, so plan ahead. You won't regret it!

Oh wow. What an AMAZING dining experience, I cannot wait to go back.
By far, the best meal of my life!
@kadenceorlando is a private dining experience, where there are only 9 guests dining at a time. It's a 2:30hr experience, while the chefs are prepping and cooking directly in front of you while sharing stories and teaching you about each meal they prepare.
The fish was fresh, the ambiance pleasant, clean, lux, and all about the food. I loved the plain walls and the crisp bar tables.
There is so much more I can say about this place, but it wouldn't be enough, you have to experience it yourself. .

I had one heck of a wonderful Saturday evening not too long ago. I’ve passed by the place a few times in my walks and was always curious about it. My brother recently informed me that they had a Michelin star, and that only further enkindled my interest.

It just rolling around evening time. I’d had a few drinks at one of the local establishments on a whim. I was about to go walking back home and I pass by the mysterious all-black door of the restaurant on the way back. I stopped and thought: “What the heck? Why not pop in and check it out?”

I’m very glad that I did!

The folks there were incredibly friendly! I did not partake in the food experience (I’ve got to save some money up before I do something like that, although I certainly do want to) but I did have a drink while I was there. I believe it had some kind of plum juice in it? The presentation was very lovely. And all considered was a great price for what I got! ($10, if I recall correctly, and one of the better things I’ve had in recent memory!)

Incredible service, genuinely kind people, and wonderful drinks!

Now I might refrain from going so hog wild on a weekend next time when I’m rambling on my lonesome, but you guys were incredibly gracious and cool! And I want to thank you for taking great care of me and the other nice couple there that night. It seems like you really value the people you’re serving. And that to me, even moreover than the food, makes me want to write this today.

Just wanted to say thank you guys sincerely for your hospitality and good atmosphere. It made the evening that much more special. 🤟 Be well, y’all!

This place is very crafted, and very highly regarded. The restaurant is not exactly decorated outside, with easy to find signage, and is very nondescript. When you approach, it will be all black and is next-door to ABC liquors. When you enter, it’s brightly decorated with Japanese style paintings all over the place, and the staff are quite friendly and attentive. Obviously everyone in Winterpark knows that this is one of the restaurants that got a Michelin star rating. It is for a good reason because they make excellent food. Anytime they offer Onigiri we get it, especially since only onigiri is seemingly very difficult to come by in the Orlando area. Their offerings are unique, and utilize fresh and delicious ingredients. We highly recommend this place.

The food here was good. The sake was good and the server explained it well. However, for the price point, I want: great service with explanations of what the food is (we had to ask what every single course was); professional service (not a chef who is drinking alcohol during our whole experience & a server who looked as if he just rolled out of bed); not hear foul language & course discussions. This is not a restaurant worthy of a Michelin star. We have enjoyed several other Michelin star restaurants and this leaves a lot to be desired. It is a good sushi restaurant. We were all extremely disappointed and uncomfortable.

If you’re looking to splurge on a high end dining experience, look no further. It took me about 2 months to be able to catch a dinner reservation but it was worth the wait! Mark, Jen and their team are so inviting and personable. The interior was sleek and modern. Food was amazing as were the drinks. Highly recommend trying their matcha or hojicha lattes if you want a break from the Alcoholic beverages. I loved how mark (the chef) makes conversations with everyone present and guides the night along. I went for dinner on Thursday, April 20th and it is truly a memorable experience and incredibly well deserving of its first Michelin star. From the progression & flow of the menu to enjoying the sake and/or tea pairing (which is recommended), the technique shines in a restaurant like Kadence and every single detail makes a difference in the final product. The food is bold yet intriguing and surprises your palette the more you chew. Eat as the chef requests and you will not regret it. I am grateful for an experience like this and look forward to being back.

I wish you the best & cheers to hopefully seeing two Michelin stars in the future!

Review №71

This was my final one of the four Michelin Starred restaurants in Orlando. I came here one chilly night in December, waiting for a mystery tasting menu that promised plenty of delicious, fresh fish. Their menu isn't online, and I like that. No one can get mad if a dish is missing due to unexpectedly low-quality ingredients, no one can get mad if a dish is added on because of unexpectedly high-quality ingredients. It's a surprise, a true omakase.

You walk in, and the waiting area/bar is plastered with a wild, colorful, Asian-inspired mural that will keep your head spinning around looking at it for the entire time you're waiting to be seated. Then, the curtain is pulled back, and our super small seating of six people got seated, and the show began.

There was the standard omakase offering of the sake pairing, but what I thought was neat was the non-alcoholic tea pairing that they offered. I jumped on that, and I'm glad I did. We started sipping on our drinks, and then the show began.

I absolutely do not remember every detail of my meal, and I wouldn't share them with you even if I did. But I will give you some highlights. The show started off with a surprising soup, hope you're feeling adventurous. Then, a super large, super fresh oyster and some offal.

These simple dishes really focus on highlighting one super quality ingredients, and pairing it with a minimal amount of ingredients just to really make the best parts of these ingredients pop on your palette. I loved it.

The fresh fish dishes at the beginning of the meal were exquisite. Marinating in various delicious liquids, or just lightly smoked, as to not cook the meat, and the cuts they gave us were so thick, so the taste and texture of the fish were on full display and very apparent. I was pleased.

Kind of the same thing with the sashimi course. Some fresh tuna, some blow-torched snapper, thick cuts, great texture. I was a fan. The only complaint I do have, and this is minor, is that some omakases I've been to, they go out of their way to tell us about each species of fish and where they were caught from and what notes to look out for when eating the fish. Small, but I do like that touch.

Then comes the nigiri coursesss. A lot of prep work as the guy sliced it all up right in front of us, displaying his professional knife skills, I was very jealous. And then boom, one piece after another of huge pieces of fish with a small accoutrement to help the taste. Very good stuff. Very unique fish that you don't run into very often in Orlando.

Then, winding down the meal, came a warm duck soup with some udon noodles. Very good. Deep flavors in that broth.

And finally, desserts! A light, fruity bar with edible flowers and some granola-stuff for texture. Good. And finally finally, a matcha-themed tiramisu for the birthday we were celebrating. So delicious.

So the meal was done and over with. I was very full and very pleased. I had only seen this move done at three star places, but we got a goodie bag to go home! A creamy, chilled green tea. And a poke bowl. Both meant for breakfast the next morning. This kind of added flair will get them that second star if they keep this up.

Overall, this was an incredible experience. There were a million pros, and only that one con I mentioned earlier. If you can swing it, and if you like fresh seafood, you must come here.

Review №83

I've never left a bad restaurant review and hate to do so now, but this was the worst tasting experience I've yet to attend. Considering their recently awarded Michelin star, the outrageous ticket price, and the fact that I've loved every other Japanese tasting event I've attended, I had such high expectations for this place. However, while I'm sure the ingredients used here are top-notch, it's what you DO with those ingredients that counts, and with the exception of the first course (three bites that included uni and crab, tuna in miso mustard, and oyster with ceviche garnish) and the first dessert course (a delightfully creamy and beautifully presented frozen parfait), the dishes were disappointingly bland. An entire 3 courses were nothing but unseasoned meat, vegetables, and/or noodles floatingin flavorless broth.
Additionally, while the staff were kind and welcoming in the beginning, near the end of the evening they all but disappeared (I suppose as they started serving the second seating in the next room?), leaving excruciatingly long gaps between courses and dragging out the evening well past 8:00, when it was scheduled to end at 7:15 (needless to say, after having driven from Tampa for this event and still having to make the drive back after, I would have appreciated a more accurate time estimate!). To make matters worse, no one came out at the end of the meal to let us know that the last course had been served or to thank us for coming, leaving everyone uncertain as to whether it was OK to leave or not. Additionally ordered to-go items were set down hurriedly and haphazardly on the counter, with no comments as to what or whose they were, creating additional confusion. If you're looking exclusively for high-quality ingredients and minimalist dishes, this may be your place, but if you are looking for a place where those ingredients are used in creative and flavorful ways (and with impeccable and welcoming service), look elsewhere

Kadence is my favorite restaurant in Orlando by far. The fish is fresh and carefully prepared. Mark is talented and made the meal so fun. I felt like I was eating with friends. It’s been a long time since I had such an intimate experience at a restaurant. Excellent sushi, great sake selection. A great meal all around. I would definitely be coming back and I recommend people checking them out.

It's just so expensive. I think my bill with paired sake was almost $300 or more/ person with tip. It could've been more but after a few sake' I just forgot about it. The food was very good. I would say my only complaint was seeing the service behind the bar actually take a bite of one of the dishes. I liked the clean bathroom and aesop soap, and there is only one but with only 12 seats or so it was enough.

Of course now, they aren't open due to the shelter at home order. However one cool thing they've been helping out the community is providing free meals to hospitality workers that's been out of work. It's look like a cozy family meal. Love that so much. Definitely supporting this restaurant when it opens back up.

I give the food five stars and give the pick up service two stars. We had pre-arranged a pickup time around 8am for a 1 pm pick up. I arrived 5 minutes early and texted as instructed that I was there for curbside pickup. I was informed my order would be ready in 15 minutes. After waiting 30 minutes,I was told it would be another 5 minutes., which didn't happen. We waited a total of 40 minutes for a pre-arranged pick up order that was placed 4-5 h hours prior. This was an annual birthday meal that won't be continued. Food was good though, price seemed fair... Normally I like to post pictures of food, but not really here to promote them.

This restaurant is special. We ordered a chirasi bowl from here on our anniversary and really enjoyed together. Every bite was out of this world. We haven’t found a restaurant in Orlando that has matched it. Kadence is now one of our special occasion restaurants!

I’ve been a guest of Kadence since their Kappo days in East End market. Every visit is surreal! Their attention to detail and creating an experience is something you’ll never find anywhere else. They know you by name and they make you feel as if you’re a part of their family.

All I can say is wow. Never had such fresh fish. Usually when I get togo I feel like it just isn't the same as sitting in the restaurant for an actual dinner. This isn't the case with Kadence. Everything I ordered Togo was phenomenal and made it feel like I had a great dinner at the actual restaurant. The flights are a great way to sample a lot of the different types of fish on the menu and then you can order a box when you know what you like the best. They also threw in some saki when my order was running a tad late.

100% worth the visit and return visit for sure! I went for the 5 course Kappo tasting. The service was excellent and the food was wonderful, perfectly timed between each course and a nice range of flavors. The sake drinks were strong but tasty. I’d recommend the Winter Rose but make sure you mix it so you can get a good taste of the hibiscus syrup. The only con- my tasting reservation was for 6:30 but I wasn’t seated til around 7 BUT, that’s because of the previous seating. No one wants to be rushed so I understand. Great experience for a central FL restaurant.

Expensive, and worth it for a special occasion. Two sittings of only nine diners, you'll become friends with the other patrons and the staff over the shared creation/consumption of a meal that's taste, color, texture and imagination.

These guys know what they're doing when it comes to a dining experience! Everything is carefully curated and fresh. The courses seem small but believe me, you will be stuffed to the gills when you leave. Chefs are extremely friendly and can read the room. If you're quiet and reserved, they will let you let you relax and enjoy. If you ask questions and engage with the chefs, they are hilarious and tell you everything you want to know about the courses. All bookings are done online. If you purchase drinks at dining, you get charged with the card you used for the reservation. No money is exchanged at the restaurant, making the dining experience all the more smoother. They accommodate dietary restrictions. Just make sure you add your restrictions to the comments when booking. If you love Japanese cuisine, sashimi, and nigiri, you must try this place. I guarantee you will tell all your friends and bring them back with you. With said, this is not a sushi roll kinda place. Don't come here expecting California and Volcano Rolls.

I came here today with one of my closest friends for lunch. It was by far the best sushi I have ever tasted. Super fresh. The two chefs that prepared the fish were funny, engaging, and had great chemistry. You could tell they really enjoyed their craft. The toppings on the different pieces of fish were subtle enough to compliment the different pieces well. My favorite was the plum paste. Their homemade pickled ginger was amazing. That’s saying a lot because I hate ginger, and it normally tastes like soap to me. Their ginger was super tasty.

The service was perfect. Different servers worked together to keep water glasses full and brought different plates, bowls, and utensils for each part of the experience. It was someone’s birthday, so they passed around sake cans that they encouraged we “shotgun”. I failed miserably at that, but it was fun and kept the mood comfortable and playful. The lunch experience lasted 2 hrs. It was so good, I wish it had been longer. I want to come back and experience the dinner with my husband. The price we paid was definitely earned and worth the quality and exceptional food and service.

It’s awesome we have such a unique restaurant tucked away in our community.

Kadence is the best restaurant in Orlando. It offers seasonal, high quality ingredients prepared by a team of passionate chefs who are always looking for ways to innovate and improve upon the guest experience. Every trip to Kadence is unique. If you have family in town or a special occasion to celebrate, Kadence is the perfect place to go. Make sure to grab some desserts for the road, too! Koala Mama's ice creams and pastries are unlike anything you've ever had...

We’ve heard the hype about Kadence and wanted to try ourselves. From the beginnings of their Stall to their new location the Kadence Team has gotten it all right. From the time you enter and are escorted in to dining it’s quite and experience. The simplicity of the pure oak counters matched the Japanese level attention to every minute details. The same is reflected in the service and of course the Sushi’s. We enjoyed every bit they offered each one coming with an explanation of the Fish and Preparation. We chose the Sake parking which was well worth it for sure.

Came here for omakase. I'm sorry to say that it was average in my mind. Yes, they used a lot of exotic ingredients but the prepared food didn't have that umph factor. I felt like the set was using uniqueness as a crutch for wowing the diners. OK, so these ingredients x, y, and z are shipped fresh from Japan. That is impressive, but it just wasn't...tasty.

The ambiance, decor, and architecture also seemed in line with the food. For example, take the ankle height window, it just seemed like the team decided it would be cool to have windows that don't function as traditional windows for no reason but to be cool. Very echoy in the room too.

The staff was great. The service was awesome.

Also, try a sake shotgun while you’re there.

Kadence was the most exquisite meal that my wife and I have probably ever eaten in our lives. However even better than the food we ate was the water we drank. The true star of the dinner tonight. There was no smell, discoloration, particles, or funky taste. One sip of the water here made my color in my hair flourish and my wrinkles vanish. On a more serious note I want to wish (Tre, Trey, Trei, trä) a happy birthday, and thank the kadence staff for an amazing and joyous dining experience they provided. I truly wish that it was closer to home.
