Great little find in The Grand! The rainbow bowl was really good. The tuna and salmon were so fresh and tasty! The chicken fried rice was really good and not overly salted, greasy, or with too much soy sauce. Service was excellent! We will certainly be back!

I have to admit that I really loved this find. I was going to go outside of the hotel area to find sushi, but this restaurant was located inside of the hotel proper so I decided to give it a try. Sashimi appetizer, tuna/salmon Poke Bowl, and sparkling water. The food was fresh, well prepared, and delicious. This was a win.

I really wanted to love this place. I have been wanting to come here for so long. I live in Miami / NY and I frequent a lot of Asian restaurants but I gotta say I was very underwhelmed. I ordered the house fried rice and it was fine, ok flavor but nothing out of this world. The crispy rice and tuna was heavily sauced which might be ok for most people but I like when the tuna shines. The bbq ribs were also heavy with sauce but not in a way I appreciated. I feel they weren’t outshining their competitors or any basic Chinese restaurant. The crystal shrimp dumplings were ok. But the shrimp tasted frozen. Which is usually the case, but you shouldn’t be able to taste that. The Dan Dan noodles were my biggest let down.
The service was great. The restaurant had a very cozy intimate vibe, the drinks were great but I wouldn’t come back here again for the food. I was underwhelmed and disappointed. I would go to Tanuki instead.

Had another great dinner at Tanka tonight. We went a little overboard… we were hungry and I had a glass of wine at the bar and that only made me more hungry.. lamb chops were spicy instead of the classic rosemary. Great change of pace…. peking duck was excellent. Crispy and warm. I don’t remember what the fried Hungarian peppers were called on the menu, but they are mild, spicy fried peppers. More flavor than heat. Excellent! And to round the meal off we had the Spicy chicken. It was small bits of chicken, drowning in Thai peppers. Very spicy and delicious. The chicken is always my favorite. So… a few bottles of wine and we rolled out stuffed. Every once in a while I want athletic traditional Chinese food This place, never let me down. Highly recommend…….

So we decided to pay a visit to this new restaurant that has put down stakes on our old favorite restaurant "Tony Changs". We were very skeptical and were definitely prepared to be disappointed.
We were so pleasantly surprised! From the moment we entered the dining area to the end, everything was superb. Our service Santiago definitely knew the dishes and was able to guide us through our culinary experience.
We started with 2 Old Fashioned and warned him that we were very selective of our drinks. The bartender Federico knew exactly what he was doing. We were happy. We had the dumplings and the wanton soup with our Old Fashioned.
For the main course, we had the Peking Duck and the Kung Pao Chicken (spicy hot) with a bottle of Malbec. They were sumptuous!
Well, we had a great time and cannot wait to return.

Awkwardly rude and disrespectful experience multiple times. It was lovely a couple years ago, but then everything changed. The staff are now extremely disrespectful, lie so that they can charge for items you did not order, pretend they cannot speak English so that you are scammed, and in general seem to hate you the second you walk in, even if you are kind and carry yourself well. It’s like walking into a nightmare.

This place is phenomenal all around. We stayed at the Doubletree that this restaurant resides in, and stopped by for a drink, our bartender Frederico and server Mohamed were two of the kindest restaurant staff we’ve come across in a long time. They both were very patient, helpful, and welcoming. If you stay at this hotel or are just in the area looking for some solid food and drinks, definitely give this place a thought. Oh and did I mention they do all day happy hour from Monday-Thursday?! Will be coming back here for future trips to and through Miami.

We couldn’t finish the fried rice seafood due to the shards of the shell inside the fried rice bowl. We tell them the problem but nothing special happens, just simply a sorry from the waiter.

I had high hopes for this spot as a reliable Asian restaurant in my neighborhood has eluded me. Being that my father’s favorite cuisine is classic Chinese - American I decided to give Tanka a try since the menu features quite a few tried and true classics.
Let start with the positives.
The restaurant is very well appointed and quite frankly visually striking. The location boasts an enormous window showcasing the impressive kitchen.
The food, while not earth shattering was very good. .
The cons?
Before we go down this path I want to ensure that these observations are made with nothing but the best intentions in mind, and are simply my opinions. I am certainly no authority in fine dining.
The first red flag I noticed was the entrance door and windows are smudgy and absolutely filthy which straight away makes me question the cleanliness of the establishment. Being that there is a hostess doing very little during an rather empty lunch service I would certainly recommend encouraging her to grab the windex and some paper towels and making the first thing the client sees more up to par with the level this restaurant is trying to portray.
Our waiter, while civil enough, was hard to hear when asked about dishes, forgot part of the order and did not remove service ware once food was complete making for an extremely messy table.
The dining room was nearly empty, but a loud business lunch three top was seated nearly on top of us making for a very uncomfortable setting, adding that not once but twice during our meal the music mysteriously just stopped for 10 minutes or more (the second time I politely asked if the music could be turned back on) at a time giving the restaurant the feel of a library with our very loud neighbors practically sitting at our table.
$300 lunch is absolutely fine but please pay attention to the details.

One of the servers at this restaurant is a racist, he told us specifically that tips are not included in the check. Like isn’t this a common thing? Or he told us this simply because we are Chinese? Don’t forget you are an Asian Cuisine restaurant. Hire someone that’s not a racist. Their 毛血旺 is dry, other food is ok.

They were extremely unwelcoming and made me feel really uncomfortable while I was waiting for my friend to order and get her food. Whether I order take out or dine in, I should be able to sit down and eat since I paid for the food with my hard earned money. Long story short, they told me I couldn’t eat the very food I bought there as I waited for my friend to get her food because I “ordered take out.” The bartenders proceeded to give uncomfortable stares and the demeanor of the workers changed drastically. They didn’t have to say anything for me to feel the vibes. Make it make sense…Because of that experience, this establishment lost two customers, what the actual hell. Food, great. Service, try again.

Wow, We really enjoyed having dinner at this restaurant. Were passing through and decided to give it a try. Had a Scotch (Macallan 12) Then we had the spicy chicken and a Basil Hayden on the rocks. I was in heaven…. The spicy chicken is very hot and spicy…. Then we had the fried rice with seafood in it, and another Basil Hayden. We went through a few more Entrées … but the spicy chicken was the highlight. I would say this was the best meal, ( with drinks) I had in Miami this time. Good luck, give them a try if you’re in the area. FIVE STARS!

Hidden gem. Classy, dark interior, takes you away from the fact you’re in a hotel mall. I was very skeptical at first. But the food is delicious - very fresh tuna in the poke bowl, shrimp dumplings were great.
Service was elite - Federico behind the bar is a craftsman, makes a cocktail with precision and care. Our server Rafik was attentive and easy-going. Jessie, our caterer, was sweet and efficient.

This place has the WORST service EVER! Do NOT go there. I have been going there for years and it has always been pretty good until recently. It’s a fine dinning restaurant with the service of an underpaid McDonalds worker. I paid $100.00 to be argued with, discriminated against, and in general treated like ****. The server brought one dish out first, and it took 10 minutes for the other guest’s dish. My dish was cold by then. The water glasses remained empty during the whole dinner service, the server didn’t come back to check on us not even once. I asked “the manager” Rafik to take the dirty dishes off the table and he said “that’s not my job” then went to talk to the other workers. When I asked for the check he said “well did you ASK for it?” Then he started arguing with me and shouting at me. I paid $100.00 to be insulted, stressed out, argued with, upset and belittled by this horrible person. He refused to tell me the name of the owner and he told the hostess not to tell me who the owner is but I work for a law firm and I will ultimately find out. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!!! Go ANYWHERE else!!!

I used to go to this restaurant all the time. It was my favorite restaurant by far. I went today since I heard they reopened… sadly I was informed that they changed owners, however we decided to try it out but unfortunately it was nothing compared to what it was.
Pecking duck: this dish was good, however it was bland, it came with tiny tortillas for us to create a “burrito” with the duck. 6/10
Mongolian Beef: flavorful but the texture was slimy, it was cheaply made for a restaurant with such prices 4/10
House fried rice: this dish was really disappointing, the rice had no flavor, the meat was scarce and the texture was like old rice put together with no salt or seasoning. 1/10
Pork Gyozas: we received them still frozen inside, the servers were great and they gave us a new one. 6/10
The service was lacking, however they had an amazing attitude and were friendly with all of us.
This restaurant is nothing like it was before. However, I would love to see this restaurant come back or even surpass its former glory.

Went for dinner after taking a little stroll inside the hotel, this place is beautiful and the decor and ambiance is amazing. The food was great but this waitress was awful. We ordered a bunch of appetizers and a couple of entrees, the lamb chops where cold and we had to wait to grab her attention to inform her, she replied with the worst face and attitude, never offered or asked us for drinks, or how everything else tasted. She then came to drop the check without offering
Dessert or coffee or after dinner drink, she just dropped it without us asking, I believe the etiquette is to drop the check to whoever ask for it but she decided that the girls sitting on the table were the ones to pay, if we. Needed forks she made a face, if we wanted water she made a face, if we needed the table to Be cleaned she made a face. How can this beautiful restaurant with such a great menu have someone like her working in the front of the house? Literally representing with a disgusting attitude , body language and service?! Her assistants were much much better and had a way better attitude than her. I’m baffled because we left feeling like beggars although we were paying costumers. Definitely won’t come

From my stars it seems as though I thought less of the food. Certainly not the case. First the negative, I ordered a sashimi assortment , not and appetizer but a full order. I have ordered this in NYC, NC and here is south Florida at many places and when it arrives at the table it has always been an assortment..12 to 18 prices and a wide eclectic amount. At Tanka, this is not the case, it was 6 small pieces, 2 each of Tuna, Salmon and Hamachi. That btw, is $36.00. This is absurd especially if you are familiar with sashimi orders and a fan of such. Then for a place so sophisticated they do need to expand their gluten free choices. And there is guten free soy sauce and tamari sauce they can use. This can be very beneficial.
Now other than that, the service was tops. Everyone from front to the table was very knowledgeable and very understanding as well as delightful. We had a salt and pepper calamari, gluten free flour substitute, it was excellent. Spicy shrimp on a skewer and bac choy[not sure how that is spelt] and that was very flavorful and the quantity was perfect! I will certainly go again just never order the Japanese again. I am sure there are other wonderful delights of the menu.

Tried their first every Easter Brunch which was also their first ever brunch! The brunch was from 11am - 4pm and we arrived at 2:15pm with a reservation. The reason we decided to go was because the promo and email received from Tanka about the brunch promised many delicious options (see attached). However a few things were not seen at the brunch spread/bar. Oyster were already sold out, we got the last 2 bottomless leechee mimosas, there was no Peking duck carving station, no dumpling station, and short ribs were no where to be found. (not sure why I wasn't given a discount lol) We in fact had to ask for the dumplings which were brought separately from the kitchen, and were not fresh. The staff was respectful and kind but really slow. HOWEVER all the food at the brunch bar was delicious, tasty and super fresh. The sushi and sashimi was awesome and really well done. The cod and beef dishes were also delightful as well as the ceviche and spring rolls.

The menu is a cool, modern take on American Chinese. The dishes that were good were flavorful, but different from what you'd normally expect from a Chinese joint in the US. Keep that in mind if you decide to come.
There were a few dishes that were absolute hits-- bao buns, peking duck, general tanka chicken, and garlic fried rice. The chocolate surprise dessert was also delicious! The Peking duck comes flambéd, which was quite fun! The skin was nice and crispy.
However, there were dishes that were not so good. The dim sum was bland and had an odd texture, which was such a let down because shumai is usually one of my favorites. Our drinks were watered down, too.
The location is not the best, either. The restaurant is inside a dingy mall. Its pretty dark in restaurant too, which I’m not the biggest fan of.
Our server was ok but our busser/food runner was fantastic! He described the dishes before placing them on the table and had a great attitude.
We’ll be back now that we know which dishes to avoid.

Food was good, braised ribs and duck were excellent (fried rice was so so). However the service was dismally slow and our waiter basically forgot about us.

Had lunch at Tanka with a friend and had an amazing experience. While I will miss the old Tony Chan’s, Tanka really delivered with its flavors and food quality. The dumplings were on point, Duck was great and Wesley was a really professional and knowledgeable server! Check this place out for sure.

This was a small restaurant with quality food. The lighting was low, which created great atmosphere but made it hard to read the menu. It’s Chinese food with a more upscale take on the taste of the food. The most annoying part of our meal is they forgot my meal. We had a group of seven people and everybody received their meal except me. I told are server they forgot to bring my meal out at the point where everyone was already done eating. The server argued with me and said they didn’t forget my meal. 10 minutes later it came out with zero apologies and everyone at the table got to watch me eat.

Good food , good service , Rossi was super nice!! Tofu was good, crab told too, dumpling mushroom good too and the sea bass expensive for the quality and the portion! That can do better and also fish smell since the entrance , they need to fix this asap! See the kitchen is attractive but leave the place with fish aroma no😂😂 we will back at some point!

My family and I have been visiting this venue for over a decade. Tony Chan's (the former restaurant's name) was a staple for us; we would regularly visit for family get-togethers, holidays, etc., and the previous restaurant's owners were so well-known to us that they might as well have been family too. So you can imagine our trepidation when we first discovered that the previous management was leaving, the restaurant would be remodeled, and would change its name.
Undaunted, we set out to try Tanka.
For dinner we we decided to share the edamame and calamari as appetizers, and the Peking duck and shrimp fried rice as entrees.
Our fears were completely unwarranted.
The edamame was delicious, but the calamari was exquisite; the flavor of the latter had just the right amount of spicy meets smokey. Not only was it an absolute delight for the taste buds, but it didn't linger on our tongues due to over-seasoning and/or greasiness (something fairly common in other places which serve calamari), leaving our palates ready for the main event.
The Peking duck was the item we were most nervous about, approaching it with an attitude of, "hope for the best but expect the worst". At last, the duck arrived on our table, and the moment of truth...
The Peking duck wasn't like Tony Chan's. It was BETTER.
Served with mandarin pancakes, hoisin sauce and vegetables as it had always been, Tanka's pancakes were thinner and tastier than the previous restaurant's, and this complemented the flavor and texture of what we were eating. The rice was exactly what one looks for in a quality Asian-style fried rice; fluffy and light, non-greasy, but packed with flavor. Other restaurants take note: this is how you do fried rice right.
My family and I look forward to enjoying Tanka for another 10+ years.

Very nice spot for a date. The food is delicious and they gave great service. Be prepared though, for dinner and dessert and a drink it will cost around $100. Although the restaurant decor was gorgeous, I did not like how dark it was. It was also a bit smoky, I'm guessing from the nearby kitchen. My allergies were activated. Nearby parking at the restaurant is also quite expensive. Overall, I had a nice time. I had the cucumber salad (it was spicy but I like that), the bok chocolate (very buttery, garlicky and delicious but don't try to kiss anyone immediately after) and the branzino (served on a leaf with a small lemony salad type thing (absolutely delicious)! Once again, the staff is fantastic, from the hostess to the waiters. The expresso martini was ok. Oh, and you can get super cute selfies in the bathroom.

Highlight of my biz trip to Miami. 5 stars in all areas: cozy dark atmosphere, highly attentive caring staff, tastiest food I've dined on in a year. We had a sublime experience. Hats off to the whole team . ( Loved our 2 top against open kitchen wall)

My boyfriend and I visited this restaurant for the first time on Tuesday. We love the Edgewater area and have heard great reviews on this restaurant. Right off the bat, the ambiance is very appealing, the bar is upscale, the the open kitchen is a vibe. The staff is really welcoming and friendly, from the hostess, the servers, we even met the managers and the chef came to meet us, which really made us feel at home. We ordered the cucumber salad, spicy edamame, pork bao, ribs fried rice and the lamb chops. Everything was delicious, but the cucumbers salad was so refreshing and the ribs were so soft and delicious, the server mixes it for you and you see all the freshly made ingredients melting together. We had the matcha lava cake for dessert that they make in house and honestly is the best dessert I've ever had - and I'm not a dessert person. Its the right amount of sweet. For drinks, we had the clarified apple martini, I loved it. The sizes are generous and very good price for an upscale quality. Our server Rosie took the time to explain all the dishes and specialties. Lou, one of the managers, took the time to come meet us and introduce the chef. The service was jus spectacular, we will definitely be coming back!

I remember before Tanka it was a different Chinese restaurant there. Let me tell you Tanka is on a different level: beautiful fine dining restaurant. Everything we ordered (and we ordered a lot) was absolutely delicious! And I would order it next time again. So as cocktails. Service was very good. And place just absolutely beautiful. Btw on Monday evening restaurant was about 70% full! I would say it is a good sign. Well done, guys! Keep it amazing!

Would love to see a local business thrive, but I was fooled by the reviews previously posted. My husband and I went here because we live nearby in Edgewater. We were expected a top notch date--we saw the beautiful photography on their instagram and the press releases. When we showed up, it was exactly what you would expect from a hotel restaurant.
We were greeted in Spanish first by all staff. My husband speaks spanish, but I do not. The uniforms worn by the staff are baggy polos and jeans and sneakers mixed with tropical/hawaiin looking shirts by the bartenders.
They were playing BRAVO TV in the background.
To start, we ordered bao buns, watermelon salad, and spring rolls. All three of these were incredibly greasy and spicy. I like spicy but there was just far too much, there was no balance between salty and savory or mild. The watermelon salad had about an entire bag of cashews/peanuts in it.
As a meal, we decided to split the short rib noodles and the duck. We opted for this because our waitress told us it was made with the same short rib that is sold on the "meat" section of the menu so it would be a good way to try it. When the noodles arrived there was only 1 TINY piece of short rib to be found- about the size of your pinky fingernail. It was sent back and they made another bowl with actual short rib- but i am not sure if this is how it normally comes or if they did it just for us.
The duck was okay- just tasted like duck. They lit it on fire but without warning and if my husband didn't happen to move his face back he would have no more eyebrows.

What an amazing surprise for the neighborhood. Simply delicious! We had a great dinner at Tanka. The room is beautifully designed, the service was super friendly, prompt and professional… and the cocktails and food were outstanding. We especially loved the chicken baos, the rock shrimp, the tan tan nodules and the salmon. On the cocktail side we liked the margarita and the old fashion. All great! Edgewater needed a terrific Asian place… looking forward to returning.

10/10 would recommend Tanka. I went for a double date, and we shared everything. I loved the Spicy Edamame, Rock Shrimp, and Peking duck. I'd also highly recommend the Matchmaker Margarita - it is a fun take on a spicy marg with passion fruit. Overall - a delicious dining experience with really nice ambiance!

Had lunch there yesterday and the food is remarkably good. The portions are generous and the staff is excellent. Took home some leftovers and even the leftovers are delicious! I’m seriously impressed with the food there — I think it’s elegant and elevated. It’s more than just good-tasting food by whatever means. The ingredients are well thought out and the recipes are well executed. Long life to Tanka!

So underrated! The other reviews seems quite bot like but I can guarantee this is no BS. Everything we had tasted so authentic yet upscale. Extremely nice atmosphere. The quality of each dish was great and the vegetables tasted fresh. Prices are on the steeper side but I still think it's so worth it. This place really takes our everyday Asian cuisine to the next level. I could not recommend this more! Service was very friendly too!
