Enjoy Chef Uechi's signature sushi and robata with new touches inspired by Miami's local Latin flavor at SLS South Beach. Private dragon room located upstairs. Arts and culture nights. Favorite amongst locals. Located in the heart of South Beach's Art Deco District.
The location features a new incarnation of Katsuya's intimate Dragon Lounge, which showcases the restaurant's award-winning mixology program.
Ava was our waitress. She was absolutely phenomenal. Starting from the time we walked through the door she catered to her every need. She knew the menu front and back inside and out. She explained every dish that we questioned, every drink that we had a question about She had an answer .
She also had a very vast pilot herself, as she had tried many of the dishes on the menu and could tell us about the taste and the flavor and the ingredients in each one .
We went with some of her personal favorites and they ended up being winners! Absolutely yummy delicious we did not leave anything on our plates .
I had a fried California roll, and we had a fried tempura. Absolutely amazing. The strawberry shortcake dessert was delightful .
The drinks where the martinis and flavored lemonade and ginger ale everything was refreshing and so delicious. The ambience is perfect. The low lighting sets the mood, very calm environment and peaceful you're able to have a conversation and listen to the company that you are keeping or just to have a quiet mind for a moment and enjoy good food .
Thoroughly enjoyed this meal would definitely return multiple times.
Again the waitress Ava, young lady was absolutely phenomenal and I attribute the five-star rating to most of her performance that evening with her knowledge, understanding and patience and personability.

Definitely will come back!! Jesse took absolutely great care of us at the bar. Drinks are amazingly delicious and creative. Lots of different, new flavors that we could not hold back ordering all the drinks 1 by 1. Bites were truly superb. This rest is inside SLS Miami Beach. They are everything you need for nice drink before heading into the Filmore for a venue....

I NEVER leave 5 stars, ever. The food was amazing. The short rib fried rice is a must. Sushi is amazing. Rayne (definitely spelled her name wrong) was one of the best servers we’ve had.

UPDATE, someone higher up helped resolve our issue and is working to ensure this terrible service and unhelpful behavior doesn't happen from any employees, servers or managers, again.
I wish I could give zero stars. When I say our waiter messed up in every aspect possible. Gave the menus we asked for to the wrong table. Wrong orders left and right. Missed orders. Maybe checked on us 5 times in the THREE HOURS it took to eat our meal just because of how slow service was. Then When we complained about this service and the auto gratuity they gave us $10 back on an over $400 bill…. Do not go here. And do not have Harold as your server. Think the manager will fix it? She won’t.

The absolute worst service I’ve ever received. Let me start this off by saying I have a severe nut allergy. Not only did I mention it to my server, but also at the front hostess stand when I first walked in. I wish I could give this place zero stars. When I say our server messed up in every aspect possible. At a table with four people who all ordered different appetizers and entrées, there should be absolutely zero reason why our server has no pen and paper in hand LOL!!! We had to ask for soy sauce, three separate times, and our waters were always empty because our server was never to be found… which is insane considering the restaurant only had three tables sat including us. When the main course came out, there were almonds in my brussel sprouts and the steak was cold to the touch. after explaining everything to the manager, the server never once came out to check on us or even apologize. When it came time for the desserts, I noticed there was a donut covered with green crumbs and I immediately panicked and asked if they were pistachios (bc i will literally die) He took the plate away for 10 minutes and then came back with an allergy sheet and with the biggest smirk on his face said “read this and tell me if there are any nuts in the donuts”. Thankfully, the manager came over again and was super kind. But being a Miami local and in the restaurant industry myself, I have never been so disrespected and treated with such unprofessionalism. I had such high hopes for this place but unfortunately I will not be returning.

Beautiful venue. Extremely slow service. Visited on a relatively slow Friday night (tables weren't even half full) and very quickly learned to order my next drink as soon as the one I ordered was served as it would take 30+ mins for any drink order to be fulfilled.

I celebrated my birthday at this restaurant and the experience was absolutely delightful! The service was top-notch, thanks to Sidney, whose kindness and efficiency made our evening even more special. The food and cocktails were delectable—each dish was a testament to high-quality ingredients and expert preparation, and the drinks were simply yum.
To mark the occasion, we were treated to complimentary champagne and dessert, which were both exquisite. Every member of the staff was kind and sweet, contributing to a warm and welcoming atmosphere. They truly went out of their way to make my birthday memorable. I couldn't have asked for a better way to celebrate! Highly recommend this restaurant for anyone looking for exceptional food and service.

A Disheartening Decline: Once-Loved Restaurant Falls Short
I had the unfortunate experience of revisiting a restaurant that used to be a favorite haunt, only to find myself sorely disappointed. The establishment, which we once cherished, has evidently seen better days, and the decline in both service and culinary quality was disheartening.
Upon arrival, the atmosphere buzzed with an air of busyness, as if the restaurant was bursting at the seams with reservations. However, the reality was far from it – a fact we discovered later. We were ushered upstairs to the less-than-inviting Dragon Lounge, a decision that left us questioning the management's judgment.
The service, regrettably, matched the lackluster ambiance. Over the course of a painstaking 2.5 hours, we managed to savor a grand total of two drinks. Yes, you read that correctly – two drinks. I even had the misfortune of consuming my dinner without the company of a beverage.
Opting for a classic dish, I ordered Ponzu, only to be served soy sauce – not once, but twice. The food itself was a symphony of blandness, and the sushi rolls, typically a highlight, were shockingly minuscule. The fish, sliced so thinly that transparency became an unintended feature, failed to impress. It's a shame to witness a once-respected kitchen deliver such subpar fare.
The crispy rice, touted as a delicacy, arrived drowning in oil, a far cry from its promised crispiness. By the time my Ponzu made its tardy appearance, the once-crispy rice had surrendered to sogginess. It's a shame to see a restaurant that we once held in high regard fall so far from grace.
In a city teeming with culinary delights, it's difficult to justify a return to this establishment. Regrettably, there are far superior dining options available in the vicinity that deserve attention over this disappointing offering. The memory of what this restaurant used to be lingers, making the present reality all the more disheartening.

I think this was the worst experience I have ever had with sushi, We got food poisoning from here. We ordered 7 types of rolls and neither of them tasted good, the biscayne roll had a lot of vinegar, the langosta roll was over cooked, the salmon lemon tasted so awful I had to spit it out. It took way too long for the food to get to the table, and the restaurant was empty, all I can say is stay away from this place.

SCAM!! Terrible experience. We had already been to Katsuya Los Angeles years ago and on this occasion we wanted to try Katsuya Miami South Beach. Not only that the food was hell. Not only that the service was slow. Not only that they brought the entire order in one go and that we finished dinner in an hour. The worst thing of all was discovering that this place is not even an official Katsuya. It is an imitation that takes advantage of the name of this reputed brand to attract customers and deceive them vilely. Proof of this is when we went to the official Katsuya website. This restaurant didn't even appear. it is a scam!

Mediocre overpriced sushi place do not go there. The service was fine. We had three rolls two sashimi pieces and two drinks with my friend, (service 20% is included in a bill) total $150. Its true from the previous reviews rolls are falling apart.
They played Latin music with not pleasant beats, was hard to talk and catch up with a friend. We had to ask for extra ginger, and they do not have a plum wine.

Katsuya in Miami Beach delivered an exceptional dining experience last night. This restaurant is renowned for its outstanding Japanese cuisine, and it truly impressed. We started with a refreshing glass of Chardonnay and indulged in the crispy rice assortment, setting the perfect tone for the evening.
The Baked Crab Handroll was a rich, velvety treat, and the Lobster Roll was nothing short of extraordinary. The Wagyu Tartare is a culinary masterpiece, and the Salmon Robata was a delight for the taste buds. Yet, it was the Wagyu Picanha that stole the spotlight with its succulent perfection.
To end on a sweet note, the Chocolate Yuzu Keki and Donuts with coconut glaze were divine. Katsuya is an ideal destination for various occasions – whether it's a casual outing with friends, a family celebration, or a business gathering. The ambiance, complete with great music, enhances the overall experience. I wholeheartedly recommend Katsuya; it promises an unforgettable culinary journey.

STAY AWAY! Unless you don’t mind waiting over an hour for your food. They won’t turn down the air conditioner. It’s 82° inside the restaurant. But if you go to the restaurant in the same building right next door, it’s beautiful. There’s way too many restaurants in South Beach to tolerate this.

Horrible, horrible, horrible. No air conditioning. We sat down and waited quite awhile for our food so we decided to just pay the bill and leave without the food. So uncomfortable. It’s 86 degrees outside. Get some air conditioning.

Located in the back of the SLS hotel, South Beach.
Restaurant is one big, open space with a very tall ceiling; place feels like a repurposed hotel ballroom from back in the 1930s.
I'm a design afficiando and I own a couple of pieces from Philippe Starck. He reportedly designed the interior but it didn't feel very ''Philippe Starck'' to me. Lighting is RED like you're in a photography dark room or that Seinfeld episode where Kenny Roger's Roasters blasted Kramer's apartment with neon.
Food was decent/good. I ordered yellowfin tuna sushi and sampled a bit of others. Service was ''fine''. One gripe: the take out bins are made from thick paper so they soak up sauce and leak. Mine leaked out onto my hotel sofa cushion and then the mini fridge after only half an hour, and I had four layers of trays!

Extremely awful value. Don’t get the Omakase.
The menu online looked pretty good for Omakase. When we arrived at the restaurant, it was a completely different menu for 50% more the price than published. We let them know and they didn’t care. We were essentially served their appetizers. Barely any raw fish (can they call this Omakase?). Poorly thought sequence of plates.

It’s always hard to rate a restaurant at average but I was truly disappointed by every single dish I had here recently and I spent $300 as a solo diner.
The service was good, not great. I refilled my water the entire evening. I had to ask other servers to help expedite a new drink order. My server had some knowledge of sake but not advanced; even disagreeable. But I could deal with all of that and still lean on the 5-star rating. It was really the food quality and the staff training. Why were there yellow (turned) leaves in my salad? (See picture). Why was the rice refrigerator cold? For a 4-star resort restaurant, I don’t expect to see staff clustered in an open corner chatting away - it’s an absolute corporate and management fail. It’s clearly a management restructure of cutting costs where they can and no love or culture in the environment. Their last accolade was in 2007, and, while you want to praise that, I’ve enjoyed better quality in Benihana - and I despise places like that! You’re clearly here for the scene. It’s really meant for non-foodie tourists to name drop a place they’ve been.
The sake selection was the best part of the menu. I kept trying over and over to try their small bites I thought they might excel in but you’re better off at a Roy’s. As you can tell, I’m SUPER disappointed by the quality but trying to be nice enough to give them an average rating. Clearly an upper management corporate fail. I won’t be returning…

Really a shame. I would skip this place and try to find somewhere else with better quality for your money. I have sent many friends and family to this restaurant previously and am just saddened of what it is now. Highly suggest you skip. Service was the best part of the night.

My husband and I got married at the SLS Brickell in October 2021. We came to the SLS South Beach yesterday for a day away from home. Since the restaurant is located inside the hotel we figured we'd make a reservation for dinner. BIG MISTAKE. We walked in a very happy couple hoping to share a lovely meal together. Instead we were treated to poor service, long wait times, and were basically kicked out of the hotel for "trespassing" only because we wanted to know where our food was.
My husband asked our server how much longer the food would take. She began to argue with us (literally) in front of other guests. After some back and forth, she brought over a woman, whom I assume is the manager, who also began to argue with us and insult my husband. After some more back and forth with this terrible person, she tells us that she has called security and that we need to leave the restaurant. REALLY? After bringing up the long wait and asking about our food? Fine.
We get back to our room and are already soured by the despicable staff at this establishment. As we are about to start brushing our teeth and getting ready for bed, there is a knock on our door. Well, apparently the so-called manager of the restaurant has not only called security to boot us from the restaurant, but she's called the police to have us removed from the hotel for trespassing. TRESPASSING?
I cannot believe that I trusted the SLS brand and business with my wedding. I am appalled that we experienced this. It was not only humiliating to us, but it also ruined what was supposed to be a nice mini overnight getaway for my husband and me. Do not eat at this place unless you are willing to suffer being belittled and humiliated by staff who find it entertaining to eject/remove you from the premises when you ask about your food.

I have eaten at amazing Omakase in Los Angeles, and good Omakase in Miami so I expected the Omakase here to have a healthy dose of nigiri and sashimi. Instead, there was a surprisingly little amount of raw fish. The two dishes I liked the most happened to be cooked dishes.
Call it a tasting menu or something but don't it Omakase.

In a very nice location with mediocre food. Sushi is much better at Cilantro then this place. The service is ok but to pay for a small jar of sake $42 for 2 small amount of drink that you take into your mouth is ridiculous, not listed on a menu. Very disappointed for a south beach high end location with low quality food.

Expensive and average quality...nothing was bad but nothing was stellar either. I expected more from a restaurant in the SLS.
We had two cocktails, miso soup, chicken, chicken fried rice, seabass, and salad. Cocktails were good, salad had way too much dressing, fried rice had very little flavor, and the seabass was just okay.
I would not return.

Just my wife and I for dinner on a Saturday night as we were staying at the SLS for the weekend. The appetizers were pretty good and so was the sake. The sashimi was excellent and they had fresh wasabi, which is nice. What I wasn’t a fan of was the server. She was very nice but had no knowledge of the menu at all. Didn’t know the menu items at all and couldn’t explain the various sashimi. Not a huge deal as turnover is tough with Covid but at the same time, we spent $500 on dinner for two. So I kinda expect the person to know. Also- when the bill came and I charged it to my room, she asked us to sit and wait to confirm with the hotel that I was a paying guest. She was nice about it and I understand why…perhaps more of a hotel policy or world we live in scenario.

I must say that the restaurant is overrated. Maybe we came at a very busy evening, but after our server contacted with us, then she totally neglected us. The food was okay, but nothing spectacular. The fried rice and wagyu was okay but nothing special. I observed that regulars were catered with much more attentiveness. We had to wait for a long time just to get the bill. In the end the waitress came and acknowledged that she had totally neglected us because it was so busy and that was it! That should make it right!

Terrible food, drinks and service.

Food was good however could be better priced.
4oz kobe beef was $150. Black cod was certainly my favourite this evening which was around $40. Lobster dynamite was ny least favourite so we could have done without but worth a try...contained more Shiplake mushrooms then lobster.
Service was extreamly slow for the amount of people being served. Looking forward to tryingnout Nobu being their rival.
Would give this place a solid 3.5

Came here for happy hour for drinks and food. Cocktails were the best part for me. Their picante was delicious and spicier than I've had from other places. The pomegranate jasmine cocktail was good but the tequila overpowered the drink, didn't taste the jasmine at all, but otherwise, still a good cocktail.
For food, what was memorable was the crispy brussel sprouts and the fried fish. The hand rolls, crispy tuna, and chicken were just okay.
All in all, I'd come back for cocktails.

I visited this restaurant thanks to a recommendation of a friend.
It was an amazing hosting and service by Sushi Chef Hiro, Manager Boba and the server Nutchi. Teamwork and outstanding service from each person on the restaurant. Starting at with the host stand until a very detailed service from servers, runners and bussers. Everyone stop by to quality check many times.
Food was amazing. Chef Hiro created a menu based on the best items Katsuya have on the Menu and Nutchi send us her favorite dessert. Definitely a place to recommend.

If I could give this 0 stars I would. The service was so bad, it was actually hilarious. Not sure if our waiter was just awful or if they were severely understaffed. Kind of crazy considering how expensive it is. Either way, we never got half of our food even after multiple flag downs of the waiter and the manager. Just ridiculously bad and disappointing.

Food here was okay. Better options in Miami. Octopus was burned. Tea for table of 5 didn’t have enough to go around.

Really friendly wait staff and good ambiance. The food was pretty good but felt like some of the dishes, which all looked great, lacked in a little extra to push it to 5 stars. I’d give them another chance though.

First time at Katsuya and to say I was impressed by the service and food is an understatement. The entire staff was extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and willing to provide recommendations and information on the dishes. We had gotten a little bit of everything off the menu to try it all and every bite was a culinary experience. The flavors/ingredients in each dish went together perfectly for a fresh light but filling dinner. Our waiter and the manager, went above and beyond to provide a truly unforgettable experience for our first time at the establishment. I will definitely be going back before the work trip is over. Thank you to the entire team and cooks you’ve made this trip exceptional. Worth every penny!
Order consisted of:
- Spicy Tuna crispy rice
- Creamy Mushroom Warm Salad
- Crispy Brussel sprouts - amazing
- King crab tempura - best thing I’ve personally ever had
- -Lobster Roll
- Wagyu fried rice - so fresh and flavorful
- Chawanmushi dessert - out of this world

As a self proclaimed food enthusiast… I travel around the world seeking for the perfect first bite. Despite this is my first visit to Taksuya, I must admit that the first bite was indeed perfect, as was the rest my testing menu in a way that’s simple, yet complex flights of omakase. Diego, my bartender was a perfect host, funny and incredible knowledge of his way of our testing menu. We ended our wonderful meal with a visit by the executive chef Michael who was so authentic about his culinary journey and plans to evolve this restaurant for the future. Must go when you’re in the area and we will be back soon.

The food, the service, the experience was amazing.
The highlight of the dinner was the professional attention to detail of the manager Misha (sorry if I misspelled). He is detail oriented, knowledgeable, professional...
Thanks!

Cocktails are delicious. Staff is super nice. Very hospitable and knowledgeable.
Ambiance is kinda not connected between the Dragon Lounge and the dining room... But they're both cool looking. Food is delicious. Every dish was a win.

Good sushi and Japanese theme on South Beach! 4.5 star for service, ambience and decor. If you love sushi, it is 3-4. But if you want a full meal + other bites I highly recommend the Wagyu gyoza and Wagyu A5. O-Toro is the deciding factor for most high end sushi places and this was 2/5 stars. O-Toro should only be only be on the menu if you have it fresh, ours was either frozen (likely) or not fresh. Don’t get me wrong, if you like sushi on an off market day, it is outstanding, but just set your expectations for fresh catch . The personal hot stone for Wagyu is cute, but the A5 cuts should be done by chef if you want to charge that price. Bottom line, sweet place, awesome menu - get rid of the gimmicks and up the sushi quality by 25% and this place could be 4-5 star. Very comfortable and relatable staff.

The vibe here is really cool and the service is pretty good. The food however, not so great. I got the cod, hubby got the fried rice, and the couple we came with got Waygu beef and the jordori chicken. Everything except the beef was really bland and poorly prepared. We have had better fried rice at our local hibachi. We will not be back.

Probably the worst sushi experience I’ve ever had. Imagine every single roll is falling apart and the rice looks like what a five year old cooked into the kitchen, followed by a $200 bill. Even the star dish, the crispy rice tuna, was anything but crispy and was more like a medley of paste, dry rice and vinegar.

I've been at this place last year, so were no surprises for me. However, I wasn't regretting visiting this place again. If you like Zuma, Comodo then you will like this place. The food was very fresh, tasty and creative, especially crispy rice truffle sea bass sahimi.

It just didn't live up to the raving reviews and high prices. My wife and I eat out a lot, we eat sushi out a lot, and the food here was honestly middle of the road. Not bad mind you, but not 200 bucks for 2 people good either. I wouldn't repeat this place

The quality of the food is excellent, the service as well, the portions are bit small compared to other japanese restaurants, that is why the 4 star rate.

The best meal we had in Miami and the cheapest ($174). If we go back to Miami this will be somewhere we eat at again. The sushi rolls are amazing and you can make a great meal off of just those. My only issue with Katsuya is that it's difficult to find for first timers. You have to find the SLS hotel and go inside and walk through the lobby and through what appears to be another restaurant to find it. We walked around for 10 minutes looking for it. Someone needs to put up some signs if you come in off of the main street.

Great prices for happy hour. It's worth going for the Baked Crab Hand Rolls.

We ordered the omakase and savored most of the dishes. The hamachi with halapeño, toro tartare, tempura crab, and short ribs with mushroom were particularly delicious and well prepared. The waygu gyoza were tasty, but the quality of the meat didn't shine through. Overall, we enjoyed our dining experience at Katsuya.

The ambiance and decor were on par with upscale restaurants in NYC (e.g., STK in the Meatpacking District) and SoCal (e.g., Delilah in West Hollywood), and their staff was pleasant and accommodating.
We ordered the Spicy Tuna Crispy Rice, Octopus, California rolls, Salmon rolls, Miso Glazed Black Cod (with a reduction sauce), Branzino, and multiple Jasmine’s Margaritas and Land of Sunshine’s. The Spicy Tuna Crispy Rice, California rolls, and octopus were amazing, as were the cocktails. While we enjoyed the Branzino and Black Cod, they didn’t “blow our skirts up,” so to speak.
As for the price of everything, we were expecting to spend $400-$500 when we made the reservation, but we didn’t even come close to those numbers. In other words, Katsuya is relatively affordable.
Our only nitpick with regard to Katsuya was the lack of guidance regarding a dress code. Judging from the photos on their site, we felt like we should dress like we do when we’re out in Manhattan (blazer, dress shirt, and jeans for me, and a cocktail dress for her). Turns out, we were overdressed. Most everyone else in the restaurant wore casual clothes, like hoodies, t-shirts, and sweatpants.
All in all, we loved Katsuya, and will definitely be eating here again on our next trek down to South Beach.

I received the wrong order and the manager refused to give a refund. Most other fine dining establishments would do this without question. Poor customer service. I will not be returning to this location unless there is a significant change in the senior staff.

The food was decent. However, as mentioned in other reviews, the wait staff is inattentive and sarcastic, and the manager is self important, condescending, and demeaning. I would expect more from a so-called high class establishment. This would never happen at the LA or Baha Mar locations.

Poor service. The manager had terrible bedside manner.

Bad service at the indoor bar. Waitress and manager were not willing to budge on a poor judgment call. Oppressive atmosphere.

Two words: absolutely delicious. The sushi here is extremely fresh and very tasty and is paired with a great soy sauce. I’m a big sushi guy and generally have a few local spots in NJ that do a good job, but this place blows them out of the water when it comes to taste. The only sushi I’ve had that was comparable was Nobu in San Diego but I think this one has them beat.
I had the rainbow roll, salmon roll, and tuna roll and couldn’t recommend them more. Service was a bit slow (but that seems to be the norm at every restaurant in South Beach) and they did originally screw up my order and bring out only 2 rainbow rolls when my order was for 1 rainbow, 1 salmon, and 1 tuna but they promptly brought out the correct rolls and let me keep the extra rainbow roll for no charge, so it worked out in my favor.
All in all I could not recommend this restaurant more. Great atmosphere and even better food. The only downside is it is very expensive and came to about $300 on the nose for 2 people including 2 drinks each, but don’t let that hold you back if you can afford it as it’s well worth the price.

Your signature lobster roll should not use imitation crab, just sacrilege! The short ribs were actually really good.
Visited 4 years ago
Food was super mediocre. They use fake crab and loads of Mayo in lobster roll and weird pepper coating. Nothing tasted fresh. Tuna crispy rice wasn’t good, tasted like mush. Walked in and no one greeted us or told us where to go, which I would disregard if good food but in this case not. If you want decent sushi I wouldn’t recommend. Very try hard style and no substance.
