Please note, only 25 seats are available. There is an average of 60 - 75 min wait on peak dinner times (7-9pm) so for families or parties 4+, we highly recommend visiting our sister restaurant - Shima Japanese Restaurant in Miami Lakes. Thank you!
There aren’t enough words to describe how great this place was. You can order off a menu but most things come on the boats, so make sure to ask your neighbor what’s what unless you know your sushi ;) since most things came on the boats for you to grab, there’s no wait time which makes up for the long wait. We did wait 2 hours for a table. People start lining up to put their names in before 5 and the place doesn’t open until 6. Get there early to put your name in and be prepared to wait. ITS WORTH IT!

Katana is great for a night out with a small group. They don’t take reservations so arrive, grab sake and enjoy the wait. I love their variety of sushi while also having a menu. the small plates are great for trying a little of everything without feeling guilty. Best meal for your buck in town!

The restaurant is small, so be ready to wait if you go. There's always a wait time. The food is pretty good, and they have options that you can grab from the river. Also, there's a menu where you can directly order from the servers. All the plates that I ate were very good, and all the sushi tasted it fresh. The restaurant looked dusty.

Katana is a local gem on Normandy Island. There is a line out the door every night, weekday, and weekend, and with good reason. The place never disappoints. They do not take reservations so when you show up, expect to put your name on a list with your phone number and your best option is to stay nearby as you only have three minutes to arrive at the door to claim your spot. The waiting experience will be a test of patience and resolve. But if you hang out at the bar next-door (2doors down) called Bob’s Your Uncle, you could do some pre-dinner libation while you wait for your call. It can take anywhere from 15 min to 2 hours. if you straight too far and lose your spot, don’t worry you are not hurting the establishment as there’s always somebody ready to replace you. The food service and the style and ambience make Katana a must-try. the only downside is that you will leave smelling like fried food as the space is small and even with great ventilation it’s still sticks to your clothes.

Katana Japanese is a tiny gem that packs a big punch. The sushi is incredibly delicious and uniquely original - I've never had flavors and combinations like this before. The atmosphere is cozy and intimate, although the small size means you'll likely have to wait a bit for a table.
My only reason for deducting two stars is the wait time, which can be quite lengthy. However, trust me when I say it's worth it. The chef's creativity and attention to detail are evident in every dish, and the staff is friendly and attentive.
Overall, I highly recommend Katana Sushi to any sushi lover looking for a unique and unforgettable experience. Just be prepared to wait a bit, and you'll be rewarded with some of the best sushi you've ever had. 4/5 stars

Must show up to put your name down on a literal list. Wait can get long but it’s worth it!
Sushi is extremely fresh and tastes fantastic. Pricing is very fair for quality of what you receive. Have been twice for 2 people and spent $75 both times un coincidentally (2 waters and just sushi).
Highly recommend this place if you’re anywhere. 1 of 1 gem!

Katana is the place where the waiting time it is worth it, the food you can feel it fresh, good combinations, is more like traditional Japanese cuisine, you have the boats going around with the food but also you can order a la carte, the tempura banana is very good, the only advice is to put more often the seafood salad on the boats, is one of the reason because I'm going.

This place is truly amazing. The only negative thing is the fact that it is so good, that the wait lines are extremely long. One or two person seating might take you anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour, and any party larger than two is a process, due to the fact that they only have three tables that sit four people…
Other than that, the sushi is amazing, the sashimi is even better. I normally go to a sushi place close to home but this place is really worthwhile…
Make sure to ask for bluefin tuna sashimi. If it is available, it is not only inexpensive, it is also amazing.

So the concept (boats) is making this place worthwhile. I absolutely loved how there are floating boats and you can pick whatever you like. This is 1) extremely practical with 0 wait time, and 2) you can see the stuff before you “buy”. However practicality is also questionable due to the looooooong wait time!! Although the place opens ar 6PM, they put the paper that you can write your name and get into the line around 5. So if you arrive later then 5:30PM you are doomed!! The place only has 27 seats and the line get pretty long pretty quick. We went there around 5:30 and were in the restaurant around 7, yikes! Also the taste wasn’t anything exceptional. It was just okay. So that meaning said, no I will not be going again but I also enjoyed the experience. Also side note I smelled like fried food when I went home (the air conditioning of the place needs improvement)

I’ve been coming to Katana since I moved to Miami, and I have to say—this place still delivers the same amazing experience every time! The sushi-go-round concept is fun, with fresh plates of sushi gliding by on a stream, ready to be picked up. From the classic rolls to the premium items, every bite tastes just as great as my first visit.
Huge shoutout to Mika and the entire team for keeping the consistency on point! Whether it’s a quick solo dinner or a casual night out, Katana never disappoints. I highly recommend coming early or during off-peak hours since the wait can get long, but it’s always worth it once you sit down.
Katana continues to be one of the top spots in Miami for a reason, and I’m excited to keep coming back!

I use to lo e comin here about 15 years ago.... its not the same.
Everywhere i go i always order a Spider Roll & its the usually the ONLY thing I eat. I asked the server to remove certain ingredients from the roll. She corrected me & told me about the ONLY ingredients on the Roll which were none that asked to be removed. She was quite rude to be honest.... everyone's plates were stacking up b/c they kept picking from the "lazy river"... its been over 30 minutes & all I picked up were some dumplings that I could hardly eat.
45 mins later the server came to me asking what I didn't want in my Spider Roll.... I guess she realized she was wrong when she corrected me & forgot what I said. But it's ok.... that took another 20 mins.... when I got the Roll, it was basically falling apart & I couldn't even put it in my mouth because the cut it so BIG
This place is not what it use to be anymore... very disappointed

I tried this place for the first time, and now it’s one of my favorites on my Miami restaurant list. The two ladies working there are so sweet and make sure you feel comfortable, even though they are constantly busy. The food is really good and fresh. I’m very picky about sushi and quality, and they definitely use fresh ingredients. The place is casual, small, and very busy, but it's worth the experience. Also, it’s very affordable, great price/ quality! I assure you, better than other big sushi pricey places. I recommend leaving your name on the waitlist and having a plan in the meantime, like grabbing drinks nearby, as the wait can sometimes be over an hour. I can’t wait to come back!

Talk about a true hole in the wall. This tiny Japanese restaurant is worth the wait. It doesn’t serve many people and it’s old school put your name on a list and wait (you could wait up to an hour and there’s no room to wait). Thats the cons now the pros..once you sit down you are happy. They have true sushi boat style where you can grab off moving boats or you can order and they bring out. Only 1 sushi chef and he kills it! My husband has said it’s some of the best sushi he’s ever had in the United States. If you can be patient it’s worth it. The two servers are super sweet and funny, but they work hard.

This place was suggested to us by a local. We arrived at the place before 6pm but still managed to miss the initial group to find seatings. Since there were so many locals, I was excited. We waited for some time and finally seated after an hour. By 7pm, we were starving. Even then, I could not get passed how low quality the sushi and sashimi was. We ordered other hot dishes and hand rolls from the back kitchen and it was equally as bad and low quality. We spent way over $100 for 2 people and cannot believe the hype or what we just ate. The 2 women that managed the crowd to get people in and out felt so rushed and a factory. It was NOT fun or charming to sit in an old, dark and dirty restaurant and eat like rushed animals. I just don't get anyone in Miami that thinks this place is good or much less great. I simply can't figure out the hype or desperation to rate this place so highly. The standards for anyone bragging on this place must be really low or simply desperate to justify why anyone would stand around to wait for low quality food.

Unique sushi concept in a quiet neighborhood. Restaurant is very small, seating only about 30 people and groups no larger than 4. Food is prepared and placed on floating boats that circulate around the inside of the room, around which the tables are located. Grab a delicious plate off a boat, or order directly from the menu. Very reasonably priced, fresh, and very tasty.

Each sushi is placed on a boat and revolves around the customer for pickup if he/she wants. The sushi plate is color coded to a price per plate. Sushi's and sashimi's were very good. Go there and sign up an hour early before 6 pm when it opens because the place fills up quickly since it's very, very limited seats because the place is tiny.

Best sushi-train-style restaurant I've been to. Plates float along a continuously replenished river around a central bar and you are free to grab and go as you please. Prices are determined at the end by your stack of plates and each individual plate's color (reference board of prices are on the east wall).
They do not take reservations and the small place fills up almost instantly - write your name, leave a number, and head to one of the local bars to grab a drink while you wait. They'll call you and you'll have 3 minutes to arrive or they'll consider it abandoned.
Parking is fairly easily found with street parking and muni surface lot behind.
Good sake collection, plus an additional menu to order hot items.
9.5/10 would recommend!

You know I'm not really a sushi type of guy. In fact, this was my first time going out FOR sushi only because of a friend's bday. Couldn't have picked a better place. It was not a very big place, but the vibes were on point. Service was pretty fast. I thought the popularity of sushi also made it expensive, but they had 5,6, and 7 dollar plates. I'll definitely be back one day! OSS 🥋

My sisters and I have been very curious to try Katana for some time after several friends' recommendations. We came around 5:23 pm just to see where the place was and where we could park and got a surprise went we notice there was a line already! The restaurant opens at 6 pm at closes at 11 pm ( Monday through Sunday )
We found a parking lot just behind the restaurant ( $1 per hour and after 6 it’s free) just have to make a right and it’s there! There are also a few parking spots in from of the restaurant but they were all taken ( people who are used to going there and making turns between the line while waiting)
Thankfully we have water and umbrellas in the car to make the line but to be honest, it will be a good idea for the restaurant to have at least some chairs and umbrellas for their customers while they are waiting, currently, the heat is unbearable even for locals!
Once they open there is a nice guy who gives numbers to customers ( the place is tiny and only has 25 seats, you can wait inside but there’s no place for seating) and asked for your name and phone number so they can call you when it’s your turn ( it would be nice to have an app to make a reservation and received and message 😉) *** ( see the note at the end)
Is a very small place so we have to wait for one hour to be seated but a least this time we were inside with A/C!
The place is a little bit outdated but everything is clean including the restrooms. It has a rotary sushi bar, there is a chef in the middle making the most amazing sushi we’ve ever tried, now I understand why people make lines to get in! The hot delicious appetizers also came from the kitchen to the rotary bar. You can grab the plates you like ( each one has a price) or you can order from the menu ( there’s a QR code on each table)
Katana has by far some of the best sushi and sashimi we’ve had in a long time. So fresh! The best sushi rice we have ever eaten!
The staff was also really nice. 10/10 we would go here again maybe after the heat comes down a little bit.
*** I found out yesterday, that From this Monday 25th July, they are getting a digital waitlist for their customers so you can make an online reservation!! This is fantastic!!! The link and information would be available on their site and Instagram.

I CAN UNDERSTAND JAPANESE!
I went with my family, after 1h of waiting we got a table, the food it’s good, BUT at the end just before the Bill they were talking B@ll $h!t about my bother and his wife. My brother, I and my mom understood every single world, we are Japanese! If that good service I can not imagine what’s bad! That was enough to ruin the whole dinner! My mom was the most outraged! And just after talking nonsense about us they smile at you to give you the bill!

Everything was great until they started talking about my son and his wife in front of us in Japanese, believing we are not gonna understand. I understand they have a lot of people waiting outside and we waited 1h to be seated but you can't hurry people up and talk B$ll $h!t about them while they eat!
Also the hypocrisy to talk nonsense and then smile at you to give you the bill!
Honestly the food was Ok, but that last detail ruins everything.

Awesome sushi restaurant! Staff was super friendly. Food was top quality. The gimmick of sushi boats floating by that you can grab was a fun experience. Very limited space to sit. Super long wait time. They are right next to a cigar bar so waiting outside is filled with smoke. I definitely recommend this establishment. Worth the wait. Not cheap but surprisingly fair priced.

I've been coming here for years and surprising never made a review. There's a certain exclusivity you feel when coming to Katana. I can't explain the one reason why but there's a reason why this place always has an hour minimum wait. Maybe it's the sushi boats, maybe its the chef cutting that fresh fish as you eat. Maybe it's the small space! One thing for sure is that their sushi is really good!

Undewhelming!! Far below average kaiten not sushi but badly cooked rice stuffed together with some mediocre raw fish. Food is far below average, atmosphere is tired and people are waiting in line? I guess it is the price that attracts people otherwise I cant think of any reasons whatsoever..

I'm from Brooklyn. Better sushi than any spot I've visited in the 5 boroughs. In my opinion, this place is worth the wait.

Put name down on the list, was told we would have a 90 minute wait. We get a call from the restaurant 50 minutes after putting our name down. I missed the call and call back two minutes after receiving the missed call. No answer from the restaurant. I arrive inside the restaurant four minutes after the missed call and the NASTY hostess says I missed my spot and needed to put my name at the end of the list. I already waited 50 minutes and she says I now need to wait another 45. She then starts making rude statements about me and my wife in Japanese. I don’t look like I speak Japanese but I actually do. Imagine her surprise when I call her out in her native tongue. Awful customer service. Had been going here for years but this was the last straw.
The bathrooms are disgusting with roaches and leaks. The male manager does cocaine in the kitchen. Overpriced considering each plate has just four pieces of sushi.
And did I mention how nasty the hostess is? Ugh.

Loved this place. Sushi is fresh and very good quality. The atmosphere is cozy, and the sushi comes around in a little boat on a river!

Overrated $5 for a small side of rice. Rush you to give up your seat. Go elsewhere!

This hole in the wall place is a cool spot! We had a rather large party and had a long wait, did not seat together because again the space is rather small, BUT its soo worth the time!! Food was great, and the ambience is a super chill, fun vibe. Definitely coming here again!!

I have been waiting at this place for 1 hour and 45 minutes, constantly checking up on my reservation. The hostess misread my phone number, and gave our table away a second later, even though we were there. The lady was being extremely rude to my family, and after a coworker confirmed she read it wrong, she still continued to argue with us. After knowing her mistake, she did not own up to it, but she criticized us. We were told to wait another hour after waiting an insane amount of time for a tiny restaurant. The only thing we got that night was disrespect and no food. I would not recommend going here. I am utterly shocked of the amount of disorganization and inhospitable employees. If I never come back here again, it will be too soon.

My experience at Katana in North Beach was incredibly disappointing. Despite arriving within the requested time which aligns with the written "rules" posted of their wall, they refused to give us a table, displaying a lack of customer service and being extremely rude. The personnel seemed completely unreasonable, making the overall dining experience unpleasant. I would not recommend this restaurant based on the frustrating treatment we received. It is a conveyor sushi place not a Michelin star restaurant. Will gladly take my money somewhere else.

The lady who organizes the reservations is super rude, unfriendly and impossible to communicate with. We tried to explain her why we are late a bit and there is a baby waiting for us at home, so we were going to be really quick. However, this lady, who has 0 empathy chose not to help us and just stare at us. She just killed our apatite - I’m never going back there again

This is not my first time here, I’ve been here many times, brought family and friends from all over the world. And every time, we had a problem with reservations.
But this time enough is enough, will never come back to this poorly run place.
The lady, she’s the manager I assume, who organizes the reservations is killing the restaurant’s business and customers mood. We put our name on the list, she told me it’s going to be around 50 min.
She’s been doing this for a very long time so you assume she’s accurate. She called me 20 min later and told me table is ready. I told her, I’ll be there in 10 min. And when I arrived there, she told me I’m back at the end of the line and have to wait another 45 min.
I have lots of friends who has the same complaints from the same lady!
Also their sushi used to be good, lately it’s so average. And the place needs an inspection from the city. It smells and looks super dirty!
Never ever will come back or recommend to anyone again.

Katana is a good time for a date night. It’s a bit of a tight space and the wait time can sometimes be a while, but I think it’s worth it. The boats concept is neat/cool where you get to pick your sushi/sushi roll, and the sushi is made right in front of you. There’s a wide variety of options, and they bill you at the end based on which plates you grabbed. Everything tastes fresh/yummy. The dessert options are also really good. It’s a great spot for locals to walk to and then walk to Bob’s afterwards for drinks. I’ve come to Katana many times, this establishment has been opened for years and it’s a spot I’ve recommended for just as long. I used to come here as a young teen, I enjoyed it then, and I still enjoy it now. I recommend for a cozy and pleasant dining experience

Worth the wait. Very unique experience and excellent sushi. However, I give one point off for service because they only had one sushi chef making nigri and sashimi, which meant that these items came out slowly, and since he would make a bunch at the same time, there was a lack of diversity. I also give one point off for atmosphere because of the small location, and a ton of people waiting in line meant that people were lined up against the walls right behind where you are sitting, staring at you and waiting while you ate. Somewhat uncomfortable.
