Chotto Matte Miami

Stop what you are doing and go to Chotto Matte. This was a great experience that hit a high note on all aspects. Food was incredibly tasty and well presented; amazing Nikkei cuisine. Service was on point, accommodating, and attentive without being overwhelming. The restaurant's decoration, vibe, and entertainment was excellent! We had the tasting menu, they have different tiers and after dining here, I can comfortably say they are well worth it. The drinks are expertly crafted and taste great. They also had amazing entertainment with a fire dancer that interacted with all the patrons. Great experience and is a must, hands down without hesitation. Trust me, you will love it!

Amazing atmosphere. Service was exceptional and we loved all our food. The drink menu was very well curated and had a good variety that also included great non-alcoholic options. The food menu also had a great variety with plenty of seafood, meat, vegetarian and vegan options. The only disappointment was that the entire table is required to do the same tasting and that didn’t work for our party’s dietary restrictions so we weren’t able to do the tasting menus. Instead we did al a carte which was still very good. We enjoyed everything we ordered. Would recommend and would like to come back again to try the tasting menu when not with a group.

I've been to places that are "overly expensive" especially in Miami Beach where you'd expect it. However, I wasnt really impressed.

1. They removed the amazing Sakura/Cherry Blossom Tree, which was a major part of the atmosphere. Kind of a letdown.

2. The food/setting didn't "justify" the price whatsoever. $600+ for two people for the quality was not great. The highlight of the meal was supposed to be some Australian Cooked Wagyu Sirloin and it was arguably one of the most disappointing steaks I've ever had. It was sliced great, but overcooked, surprisingly dry, and (although they provide course salt on the plate) unflavorful.

3. If you order one of the small plate coursed meals, everyone is forced to order the exact same coursed selection. Again, for the price..I should have the option.

On the upside, both times I've been here it was easy to find parking right in front, but that might be because I got reservation closer to opening hours.
Our server checked on us often, management acknowledges you often, and the bussing staff comes to clean up very frequently. They definitely keep an eye out for anything out of place.

The shishito peppers and the yellowtail sashimi were very flavorful.

In my opinion, this place was nicer about 3-4 years ago. I enjoyed the food a bit more back then. I probably won't be back. It's a hassle to drive through Miami traffic to get here and not be blown away by the food for the price.

We loved the food here! Would definitely recommend the hamachi appetizer & salmon with goji berries! Those two dishes were out of this world but all the other dishes we got were fantastic as well! Service was nice and polite, food was timely. Only complaint would be the cleanliness of the bathrooms and lack of lighting. If I was them I would change the bathrooms!

We had an amazing dinner at Chotto Matte for a large group of 13! Melissa was a pleasure to work with to organize a set menu option for a Friday night. She was even able to custom print menus at my request as we were celebrating a bachelor party. Jose our server was very attentive and provided great recommendations when it came to drinks. All the staff at the restaurant took exceptional care of our group with no detail left behind!

As for the food, everything was exceptional and tasted very fresh. For a large group of 13, our 10 course tasting menu was coursed out perfectly.

The vibe and ambiance is exceptional and the DJ was top notch. All around we could not have asked for a better experience and look forward to dining again whether it is with a small group or a larger group for a special occasion!

Could not recommend Chotto Matte more. We came in on a Saturday night around 8:30pm for my boyfriend's birthday. When I made the reservation I noted it was his birthday, so not sure how much of a role that played, but our service from the moment we walked in, to the moment we walked out was exceptional. The hostess were so friendly, we had multiple servers as well as the manager come by and ask how we were doing. The manager even gave us a small comped dish to try after chatting for a little while. There was a DJ and the music was great, overall perfect celebration vibes.
I had two personal hiccups during our dinner, both of which were definitely just the particular server we had:
1. l asked for a drink recommendation, something not sweet. I was recommended the Chicha Sagrada (not pictured) it was a great drink, but definitely had to have been THE sweetest drink on the menu which isn't really my cup of tea
2. I discreetly went up to our server mid dinner and told her I wanted to order a birthday dessert for my boyfriend as a surprise. Before the dessert came out while we were still waiting for our last plate, our server brought us dessert spoons, plates, and new napkins. And although great that she brought us the stuff, it was WAY too early and completely ruined the element of surprise! I would've preferred to have to ask for spoons after the fact lol

Spicy Tuna Crispy Sushi: came with 5 decently sized pieces, it was very good but definitely too much for just the two of us
Sato Maki: It doesn't say on the menu, but they touch this roll table side. It was fantastic Yellowtail: so many fantastic flavors and the texture from the chips on top
Tuna Tataki: one of my favorites from the night. The herb salsa on top was fantastic
BBQ Baby Back Ribs: we never would have ordered this is the manager didn't have us try it. They were so flavorful and so tender they fell off the bone. I'm not a big rib fan, but these were pretty great Passion Fruit Crème Brûlée: Fantastic flavor, the consistency of the crème was too gooey like it wasn't set properly or overheated when they melted the sugar.

I recently visited this restaurant for a birthday celebration and sat in the lounge area. The live music created a wonderful ambiance. The drinks were fantastic, and the food was equally impressive. It's a great spot for a friend's birthday or a dinner date. Highly recommended!

I recently visited Chotto Matte that initially seemed promising due to its beautiful design and meticulously detailed ambiance. However, my overall experience was quite disappointing.

Although the menu is well-crafted, the food quality is merely standard. A peculiar and concerning detail is that they do not ask how you prefer your meat cooked, resulting in us having to return some dishes because they were undercooked. Additionally, the timing of the dishes was inconsistent: we received the sides first, with a significant delay before the main courses arrived. This caused the meals to be served at different times for all diners, affecting the shared dining experience.

The service also left much to be desired. Water was not served promptly, and in general, the staff seemed disorganized. It is surprising that a restaurant with such visible investment has such poor management. Furthermore, the payment system is manual or outdated, as it does not allow itemized billing, something common in almost any restaurant in Miami Beach.

The place was nearly empty despite it being a weekend, which speaks volumes. The only positive aspect is the beauty of the place, but unfortunately, that does not make up for the lack of quality in food and service.

In summary, if you are looking for a place with charming decor, this restaurant might be an option. However, do not expect good food or efficient service. For these reasons, I can only give it 2 stars.

The place is very nice, modern with a electronic music and has a very nice decoration! Food is very good and fairly priced for this kind of restaurant in Miami (but not cheap). Service is good but they charge 20% tip and add another 20% over the amount with tax and tip, which is an absurd!

The service was great and they were very accommodating to my nut allergy and my girlfriends egg allergy. Everything we ordered they made sure we were good to eat it.

The food was very good! My only complaint is the proportions are quite small. I expect that from starters/shareables but the Braised Beef I ordered as an entree I thought would be like twice the size.

The restaurant ambiance is really cool though. Palm trees inside gives the feeling of a patio and the live DJ added to the great vibe.

It was my birthday and we let them know that and they didn’t bring out even a scoop of ice cream or something which I thought was odd for such a pricey meal but it’s all good.

We payed a lot of money for this meal, including tips and service fee, only to have a server who didn’t speak proper English, didn’t understand our inquiries and made a few mistakes with our orders.
(Thank you to the young gentleman who was obviously still in training for stepping in towards the end of the night - he was great and professional.)

-we ordered the Nikkei 1 menu, they never asked us about our allergies. One of us was allergic to mangoes, so when we returned one of the plates (one plate out of 7) the manager came and basically insulted one of us saying we should have told them we were allergic to mangoes. Following this, the chicken came out raw. Finally, we went there on a Saturday night on Memorial Day weekend and the restaurant wasn’t full. The rest of the food was average.

Indulging in a dining experience at Chotto Matte was a dream! My dining experience there was unforgettable, from start to finish. Every dish was bursting with flavor and looked like it came straight out of a foodie's dream. Plus, they've got these cool different kitchens serving up all sorts of tasty unique dishes!

Pro tip: let your server pick what you eat. They're spot-on with their recommendations. The vibe in the restaurant was lively but still cozy and stylish. And don't even get me started on the drinks – take a chance on something new, you won't regret it!

The service was top-notch, really friendly and personal. The chef even popped over to our table to make sure we were loving the food. And dessert? That crème brûlée was out of this world! I can't wait to go back! Chotto Matte, well done!

Shockingly bad service. Resto mostly empty,.. service slow, ordered items forgotten, food just ok - nothing special.

Sushi rolls lack flavour, dumplings overfried.

Dropped plate of sauce right beside our table, we all got splattered with dark steak sauce. No apology, no acknowledgement of incident. Skocking!

I go to Toronto location often, go and learn a thing or two about creating an experience. Terrible. Will not return.

We had a reservation for 3 people and i swear they gave us the *tiniest* table to the side of a banquet section. Our knees were all touching lol. We saw that the restaurant was mostly empty and asked if we could move to a larger table as we are 3 large guys and planned to order the full tasting menu. They told us they couldn't seat 3 at a 4-top, even though the two large tables next to us had two and three people each. When we realized they weren't going to be accommodating at all, and that the price was going to be above average for an uncomfortable seating arrangement, we decided to bail and pick another place nearby. Won't be back lol.

This is our second time here from out of town and it still blew us away! The ambiance can’t be beat, the food is top-notch and the service is great! This would be a great spot for a date night or celebratory meal! The food is tapas style (so think smaller) and the cocktails are truly unique and amazing!

Food is pretty good. But WARNING our waitress gave us the credit card machine and put the bill underneath in such a way we could hardly tell it was. there. The machine said "Tip 0,10 percent or 20 percent." When we looked at the bill which was hidden underneath the machine, we realized the tip was included. So we felt like they were being a little sneaky there. Also, the bathrooms were not clean at all, which is surprising for a nice place.

Fun, upscale locale - would not recommend for an intimate conversation as the music level is "nightclub."

Outstanding : pollo den miso
Excellent : Shishito Pepper (nicely seasoned), Asado de Tira.
Good but not unique : Chotto Cheviche. Salt and pepper squid, tuna tataki.
Can skip the salmon tostada and Sato Maki - despite the choreographic torching.

The dessert was also excellent, especially the mochi and the chocolate crunch with ice-cream

Good and fun drinks as well.

Love this place, excellent food - excellent service. The ceviche is so good. I like the fact that they have an open kitchen and you can see the team prepare your dishes

The space has a rooftop garden that falls into the space itself and it's pretty neat being able to see the moon at night while having dinner

The food is amazing and very flavorful. The service is on point. Music and ambiance? very pleasant. But a party of two with 2 drinks in happy hour ($42-21=21), ended up paying $200 per person. Almost $100 for tip and tax!? Do I recommend this place? Yes!

We came for dinner on a Friday evening and were seated at a great corner table in a booth. We were served by William and he did an amazing job. So attentive and friendly and he made sure to almost run to us when we waved him down. He was great and we will be back just for him ! Food and drinks were good too !

CHOTTO MATTE was a wonderful experience right from the moment you walk through the unassuming, hidden-ish entryway in an alley off of an otherwise touristy area. The hosts were great and welcoming and ambiance was instantly exciting. We were greeted at our table with welcome Pisco Sours, a great treat!

We got the first tasting menu with a slight modification as we were a mostly pescatarian table. Every course was delicious and flavorful, and we were all delighted and stuffed. It was a ton of food, but it was a rainy day so we ate it all as we had no where else to be. The dessert was an amazing spread and a great way to cap off the meal.

Im not sure who’s rating this restaurant, but it has to be one of the worst food experiences. The staff here are top notch and the service is outstanding! Each dish had great ideas, but the execution was completely missed. The only thing that was enjoyed was the vegan roll. We had such high hopes since the Toronto restaurant was good. This was just Blah! I can’t even say a positive note about anything. From too sour sauces to doughy churros…it was a lot of money spent for 5 people to agree this was NOT the play. Now we are from Toronto, so maybe this is Miami flavour? So disappointing! I have to add that we each at a lot of high end restaurants; so This is not about not having a refined palette.

Wow! Truly amazing. The attention to detail was clear at every level - the design, the food, the service … it was clear that the team here knew what they were doing.

William took excellent care of us! Helped make a special dinner out just that much more memorable.

Ny wife is also gluten free / celiac and not only did they nail it in that regard, but it was clear that William understood what our needs were and how to put us at ease.

One of my favorite restaurants in Miami. Don’t snack before, definitely come hungry! If the decor doesn’t catch your eye, the food will. They’re also very accommodating for any food allergies. I recommend the Nikkei Menu II if you’re looking to try several smaller dishes in one sitting.

We recently visited Chotto Matte in Miami with high expectations, especially given its reputation and location. Our large party opted for a set menu, hopeful to sample the best of what was on offer. Initially, things seemed promising with decent sushi starters, but unfortunately, that was the highlight of our meal.

As the dinner progressed, the quality and flavor of the dishes significantly declined. The ribs, which we were looking forward to, turned out to be notably flavorless, a surprising miss for a dish that usually boasts a rich, savory profile. Equally disappointing was the steak, which could only be described as mediocre, akin to what you might expect from a chain steakhouse rather than a high-end dining establishment. It was a letdown, to say the least.

The pricing, in contrast to the food quality, was steep. It became apparent that we were paying a premium for the location rather than the culinary experience. This aspect alone made the meal feel overly expensive and not worth the cost.

Adding to our underwhelmed experience was the atmosphere, which failed to impress or add any positive notes to the evening. While the bathroom facilities had a unique design that could have been a highlight, their unclean state detracted significantly from their appeal.

I find it hard to justify a return visit to Chotto Matte or to recommend it to others. It's disappointing when a restaurant with such potential falls short in delivering an enjoyable dining experience, especially when considering the price point and expectations set by its setting in Miami.

Tropical outdoor ambiance, good looking and tasting food, disappointing service. Was here for a birthday dinner on a Friday night. Naturally a bit busy. Our table had a bunch of service workers, we understand the night can get busy, but to repeatedly ignore our multiple requests to place an order is inexcusable. So it took over an hour wait just to place a food order and then another long wait for the food to come out. Also they brought out a nice place of churros that said happy bday which we got charged for. We didn’t order it just said it was for a birthday. Could’ve said it would be charged or simply not brought it out. I guess they put an automatic 20% tip on the $700 bill so they don’t have to actually do their job.

Every aspect of this restaurant is 5 stars. From the friendly and attentive service at the hostess stand as well as the one from the waiter. The music playing by the DJ. The drinks, food, ambiance. Totally worth the splurge.

My group of friends and I ordered the Wabi Sabi and Sumoki cocktails (both sweet and spicy). As well as Lamb Chops, Braised Beef and Rice with crispy duck. Everything was great.

One of the best dining experiences I've ever had in my life. All of the dishes we ordered had multiple layers and complexity in flavor. The dish that stood out for me was the tuna with foigras. Amazing!

Our server, Jose was amazing and super attentive. Every time a dish would come to the table, he would thoroughly explain everything and was making wonderful recommendations for our group. The AGM, Jennifer was checking on us periodically to make sure we were enjoying our dinner. Great experience overall, definitely going to recommend it to friends!

What an amazing and unforgettable experience! We were welcomed with a big smile and in a professional manner. Although we didn’t have reservation and the place was busy, we were accommodated promptly. Espectacular decoration, ambiance, live DJ with awesome music and perfect volume to still have a nice conversation in the table. William took care of our group. All his recommendations for food and drinks were awesome. Food was fresh, flavors were spectacular. We loved the variety in the menu. Thank you Mr. McDaniel and team for an especial evening. I really wanted to love this place, very cool and stylish, very trendy but unfortunately it was style over substance.
The server was shocking, rude and uninterested. Still got his 20% tip though, it's a real insult not to tip and I was close to asking for it to be taken off, but I knew it would cause a scene and I just wanted to leave
The food wasn't great and took forever to arrive, even though the restaurant was almost empty. When my main finally arrived it was completely devious of veg or noodles or rice, I have no problem with this but why not tell me when I ordered so I could pick some sides to accompany the dish, black cord is incredible but eaten on its own.... Well you decide. 140 dollars later and I left still hungry and really fed up. I won't return, they won't care but I've said my piece.

An excellent spot if you like to pay 40% tip by default. 20% included automatically and then mobile point of sale device automatically defaults to another 20% tip. I guess they take their customers for ignorant suckers. Server tried to tell us she only gets the extra tip money. I feel bad for staff who are doing their best but working for unethical ownership / management.

This might be the worst place I have ever been too. The manager was so disrespectful to me and to say we can not accommodate you any more because we have 50 people coming In. Are we so insignificant because we are a part of three. The manager also called me intoxicated when I so was not. If you have a happy hour from 5 til 8pm you should always accommodate people or at least say last calls but they did not.

Came here for my friends bachelorette party and it was AMAZING! They were so kind and responsive with the large party reservation, plus the service was on point and we were a party of 12.

The food was to die for and there was so much! In the words of the bride “you just took my tastebuds to heaven” thank you to the Chotto Matte team for making this such an amazing experience for us.

Their happy hour is a great introduction into this fusion restaurant. All the food that I ordered was simple, unique and flavorful. The atmosphere at the bar/lounge area was perfect including the music. But the best part was the service provided by bartender, Azucena! Be careful at the bar. They won’t show you the bill, they will just hand you a credit card machine and not tell you they added 20% tip already. So if you leave 20% which is what is the prompt, you end up leaving 40%. When I asked the manager to reverse it he basically yelled at me and told me they will reverse it at the end of the night and he can’t do anything. So shady. Never again.

Place is interesting..we ordered a 8 course menu, we liked it however we didn’t have enough time to enjoy each plate since the serving was to fast. Service was just Ok, I expect a better service when paying $200 per person.

This places is quite cool, food and drinks are good but the service is slow, drinks are small, if you want a full drink better order 2 at the same time since it will take time to be on your table and they will be small. We loved the food here! Would definitely recommend the hamachi appetizer & salmon with goji berries! Those two dishes were out of this world but all the other dishes we got were fantastic as well! Service was nice and polite, food was timely. Only complaint would be the cleanliness of the bathrooms and lack of lighting. If I was them I would change the bathrooms!

Came here several months ago. The host is rude, it’s a man with a shaved head. It’s a nice place but at the entrance the host ignores us for a bit and we waited for our table, it was getting crowded so the host told us to wait outside, and we were the only ones told to wait outside, I was confused, he said he would go outside to call us in when the table was ready. We decided to head elsewhere, they need to retrain people on how to treat others, it wasn’t that crowded and he could have sat us at the bar, instead he wanted us in the alley outside.

Horrendous service, burnt food and inattentive staff. We were completely ignored during our time here, water glasses empty, and plates left uncleared. For the price point, you expect quality food and service, and this place did NOT deliver. We spent over 20 minutes (we timed it!) waiting for our bill! That should show you the type of place this is and their care to the food and service. To add insult to injury, we were charged a 20% service fee. Worst dining experience I’ve ever had.

We went to Shake Shack across the street afterwards, I’d recommend you do the same.

The only thing interesting in this restaurant is the design of it and the fire lady that was impressive....the food...forget about it. The concept is to be a mix between Japanese and Peruvian food.
So we were a group of friends and they forced us to take each of us a large menu. Every dishes were to 🤮...even a simple broccoli. The only dish that was good, was the dessert.

My favorite place for a bite in Miami.

I feel welcomed and at home. The restaurant features amazing food, design and art. Many places in miami pretend they have this level of food, but in actuality very few do what chotto does. The food food is next level - I have never had a bad time not once. thanks to team I’m a day one type a guy.
