Sushi Reviews
Sushi Experience №1

My boyfriend and I went here this past weekend. We were visiting JAX for a friend's wedding and we are foodies. He has been craving beef tartare, I’m a sushi fanatic and we love supporting small businesses (not chains) so this seemed like a great place to try. We made an online reservation on open table. We attempted to book the Omakase experience (13-17 chef selected course) but they were booked up for the night. They said they are usually a month or so booked out for this experience, so if you’re interested, book early.

We booked the chefs counter for 7:45pm because we go to Michelin star restaurants and love watching them cook and plate the meals in front of us. We figured it would be just as enjoyable here. When we arrived (around 7:40pm), we checked in with the hostess, gave our name and our booking time. She took us to a table and I said “We reserved the chefs counter.” She said “ Oh let me check.” She then stated “Yes you’re right, sorry about that. Would you like to wait for the chefs counter to be vacant or would you like to sit here?” My boyfriend and I asked how long the wait would be for the counter, since we made a reservation for 7:45, and it was already 7:40. She said “Since the counter is currently full, I’m unsure how long it will be until one of those tables gets up.” There were only 6 stools up at the counter, so we decided we would just sit at the table and not wait since there was no ETA given. The table was more of a padded and cushioned booth and it was extremely comfortable.

Our server was Emily and she was phenomenal. She went over the menu with us, answered our questions, gave us some recommendations, was attentive, friendly and really paid attention to our needs. We ordered the Chisai tori (bird shape cup) and don’t break my heart (mushroom shape cup) for drinks to start. They were excellent. My boyfriend also ordered the nori fashioned and the summer thyme in Okinawa.

We got the wagyu tartare with the caviar appetizer. It was the best beef tartare my boyfriend said he has ever had. I trust his opinion because he eats all his beef rare, is extremely picky about his meat, is a wonderful cook and is constantly on the carnivore diet. It was the third time I’ve had beef tartare and it was extremely tasty.

The second item we ordered was the akami (Emily’s recommendation) on the crudo menu and it was delicious. The chili/soy dipping sauce it came in was awesome, we used it to dip our sushi in. The akami was tender, fresh and melted in your mouth.

We got two maki rolls: the surf & turf and the luxury roll. The surf and turf roll was exquisite. It reminded me of a lightly deep fried roll I have enjoyed in the past and I dipped it in their spicy mayo. The spicy mayo was heavy on the sriracha and had a kick, but I enjoyed it. The luxury roll melted in my mouth with freshness and it paired great with the sauce served with the crudo dish.

My only complaint for this restaurant was the mushroom risotto with scallops. We are risotto and scallop connoisseurs so we had extremely high hopes due to all the other dishes being so great. It came out, we both tried one bite and were disappointed. The risotto had no flavor and was extremely bland. The scallops were tender, but were extremely small in size and tasted dried out as if they were not cooked in much butter and then sat out before being brought to our table. We told Emily we were not happy with the meal. She instantly apologized, said she would make the chef aware and would take it off our bill.

We said we wanted to try the Japanese A5 wagyu hot stone, to replace the risotto. This came out with thin slices, a beautiful hot stone to cook it on, some Wagyu fat to be used as butter on the stone, sea salt and some other spices for seasoning. The Wagyu was tender, melted in your mouth and I wanted more once it was gone.

To end the experience, they had a fire dancer perform and she was great.

My son and I entered the restaurant and waited approximately ten minutes for the hostess to attend to us, despite the establishment being only half full. The manager approached us to assist and inquired whether we had a reservation. I informed him that we did not. He mentioned that a table was about to become available and that he would be able to seat us shortly. However, after a further wait, we were informed that another party had made a reservation for that table, and there would be no seating available for us. When I asked if we should leave, he confirmed that there was indeed no availability and apologized for the misunderstanding. I have decided not to return.

My husband and I decided on date night at Norikase. The atmosphere was nice, and we decided to make reservations for the patio. While it was a cool night here in Jax, 50 degrees range, and the restaurant had huge heaters on the patio. We ordered a few items from the menu. The food overall was great, I would say that the food is extremelyoverpricedd for certain items. We travel the world and have enjoyed sushi in some of the greatest countries, I will say that Norikase has some of the best sushi I have had in Jacksonville. While some portions are small and overpriced, the food overall was great. If you are looking for an experience I would suggest this restaurant.

4 of us went for dinner and the bill came to $420. For that price we expect exceptional service. Instead we had to ask for a roll we ordered four times which never came. Then when we got the check the first time there were an extra 3 drinks on it that nobody ordered. When we pointed this out they applied a 20% service fee, which we learned is standard on every bill. I would expect this waived for what we experienced. Later the manager took a round of drinks off our bill but we felt like that wasn’t enough to make us ever want to come back.

Originally had reservations to a different spot! Was so glad that we switched to this spot! Definitely a great decision on our part! Plenty of parking, which is always a bonus when going to “fancy” places! The outside of the place is very unassuming, but don’t let that deter you from trying this spot. Once you enter through those doors, you are instantly transformed to a different place! The decor and the ambiance is extremely chill and elevated! Lots of IG worthy pics will be taken here!

The food we had was extremely flavorful! The quality of the ingredients were top-notch and fresh! The Crudo options they have didn’t miss at all! In simpler terms, just try it all!!!

Service was more than excellent!!! Our server, Michael was an absolute gem! Very informative, attentive, and friendly! Made us feel like we are extremely important, even if the dining room was packed on a Saturday night!

Will definitely return to try the omakase!

Coming from the west coast, we eat a ton of sushi and have been to so many places - Norikase is one of the best and deserves to have a Michelin star. Our waitress was so kind and welcoming, the cocktails were great, and the food was impeccable. I would definitely recommend the kaarage and edamame, all the raw/crisp dishes were top notch, and probably the best lamb we’ve ever had. The quality of their sashimi is amazing, definitely a must stop.

Norikase is not just an excellent Japanese restaurant, it is one of the best restaurants in Jacksonville! If you are interested in sushi/sashimi/nigiri, Norikase offers the omakase experience, where the sushi chef will prepare a unique multi-course meal. The menu also offers a variety of other options; the wagyu beef was moist and succulent, and the brussel sprouts were perfectly crispy. Many of the dishes (such as the confit potato and the sweet potato creme brûlée) have elements of French cuisine. The interior of the restaurant is gorgeous, and the service was attentive. If you are looking to treat yourself for an evening, then treat yourself to Norikase!

Few months ago I went on a date, little did I know I would be double charged after the fact.I tried to get it resolved through my credit card company but this restaurant disputed said that it was legit charge. I was given 1 receipt and only signed one. I got charged twice for the same food and drink items 3 minutes apart. I have tried contacting this establishment and have been met with silence.

Word of caution, take pictures of your receipts and stay on top of your credit card transactions. I will not be visiting this establishment again. Be wary.

I recently visited norikase and had an incredible dining experience. The sushi was fresh, beautifully presented, and bursting with flavor—everything you’d hope for from a top-notch Japanese restaurant. But what truly made the evening special was the impeccable service from our waiter, Mike.

Mike was attentive, knowledgeable, and went out of his way to make sure we had a great time. His warm and friendly personality added to the overall positive atmosphere of the restaurant.

Angelina was a superb server with a great personality; the menu on the website is fictitious as a much reduced one laminated in plastic greets and was not what we would have expected from a “reservations required” restaurant; we wanted to try a number of items on the website menu and were disappointed with the slimmed down number of “summer menu” items; the pricing on the sushi and sashimi was confusing and where it says 1 piece for $8 we got 2 pieces; superb items were: seafood bisque, yellowtail/hamachi, madai, aburi sake roll, rice bowl with crab; best tasting and freshest sushi in Duval County; disappointed in otoro tuna as it was very tender but had an inedible membrane down its center (rookie sushi chef?) and ikura was minuscule in the number of eggs served; felt embarrassed as the restrooms are located in the fixed menu sushi bar area where the $50 to $175 fixed menu customers were seated. 4 stars and will definitely go back.

Been here twice now, and this is definitely the best place to get quality sushi in Jacksonville. If you want Japanese, classic nigiri/sashimi, this is the spot. They have a5 wagyu, bluefin, king salmon, and all the other goodies like real freshly grated wasabi. Amazing cocktails and decent happy hour which ends at 7.

I would not go here again. Very pricey and the service at the bar was terrible. We sat and waited a minimum of 15 minutes before anyone even came over to us. And they weren’t busy, so that’s not the reason. I had a spicy tuna roll and the tuna was “fishy” tasting, so I don’t think it was very fresh. Save yourself money and eat at another sushi restaurant.

Sushi Experience №77

First let me start by saying the food is almost always excellent, drinks as well. Service is where the issues are. 8:45 reservation, sat down close to 9:30, that’s fine. Order right away, food comes out scattered, they don’t bring out our wasabi with our food, so we need to hawk down random helpers/servers to bring us the wasabi. The steak that was ordered well-done (yes I know not my steak but if that’s how they like it) comes close to 11pm and it’s cooked med/med-well. I can look past that as well. Biggest issue was when I tipped $5 on top of the 20% service/tip fee they automatically add. And my waitress acted like I was stiffing her. Our whole table (4 people) spent well over $700 on food and drinks, we really enjoyed our food just not the service. Norikase is really good, with the right management they could be great.

Sushi Experience №78

This establishment is beautiful. You can tell that they really took the time to pay attention to the small details and it feels regal inside.

The drinks were well balanced and very tasty. It's apparent that the bartenders follow the recipes and quality ingredients are used. The sushi was good-but pricey. Our server forgot to bring out our wasabi but apologized and took it off our check-no big deal. The seasoning on the duck was tasty, but used sparingly and the inside tasted kind of rubbery-almost like it had been frozen. It wasn't my favorite duck dish that I've had.

My issue was the check-it seems that many establishments are moving towards including auto gratuity. The server explained 15% goes to her and the other 5% "goes to the house". I'm not a big fan of this buisness practice TELLING me how much I should tip instead of letting me decide. It really sours the entire experience. As someone who has previously worked in the service industry for many years, a business cannot MANDATE a gratuity-you can ask to have it removed and determine how much you would like to tip. I understand it helps ensure that the servers are paid for their time and efforts-however, that is a GAMBLE that you take as a server. I don't think it's fair to have businesses telling us how much we should be tipping-especially when they are taking a percentage of said tip.

It was a good experience overall. A nice spot to dine in Jacksonville.

New review: Do not waste your time or money. This restaurant was amazing previously. Our first 2 times we had an outstanding experience. 3rd time, fell short. 4th… what on earth happened to this place?!?! The first time the experience and service and food was PHENOMENAL. Now we give up on our service skills?!
I have reached out SEVERAL TIMES. I have called for OVER A WEEK, with 0 response. My husband wanted to have his birthday dinner there in hopes for the experiences we have had originally. Our party is a bit larger, however, the first time we went we had a party of 11 and had the BEST time sitting in the dining room. I FINALLY got a reply last night for an event…. No apologies for the time it’s taken for a response. There was no sorry and here is why… nothing. Just told me that we have to do an event which is crazy. They want $3k minimum for 10-12 people not even getting the dining experience we are wanting?! 12 people that’s $250 a person!!!! Not only that, we just want to have dinner. A normal dinner. Not an event. I get it if you now have changed your rules however, there was no explanation. Just here’s your event. If I was hosting an event, which I am not. This would not be a place I’d put my money with handling it this way. Not only that because they took so long and multiple efforts to get ahold of (over a dozen calls, emails, contacts, Facebook..) we now have to try to find somewhere last minute. NOT THE EXPERIENCE SOMEONE WOULD HOPE FOR. Thankfully, Terra Gaucha wants our service with no issues. It’s just the lack of caring or apologetic on how long it’s taken to hear back or that they are unwilling to even try to accommodate. Especially from guests that were there day 1 and spending the kind of money we have spent. Please go back to how it was. It was amazing during the soft opening. The chef came to the table, it was warm and a true experience… now It’s completely lacking. Great places are great because of the experience they provide.

Original review: Our first time going was phenomenal. We were so excited to go back. Honestly, it was still good but fell short in comparison. I absolutely loved the salmon dish I had last time with fried rice risotto. I was sad to see it replaced but understand dishes are seasonal. My husband really enjoyed the prawns this go around with the smoked Gouda grits. I preferred the previous prawns but it is all up to preference. The popping tuna was very delicious. Very good and fresh. The Brussels were great the previous times I had been but they were lacking in spice/flavor this go around. Our least favorite was the Shishitos. The sauce was great but it didn’t help the dish. It was huge and not great. I did accidentally hit my drink and it fell during service, I let someone know that it fell in case they wanted to clean it up. I never ordered another drink and they brought and charged me for another drink. I didn’t like the drink the first time around and actually switched with my husband. So when they brought another, it was worse than the first one and I gave it to my husband and stuck to water. It was very bitter and didn’t taste like coconut like it had previously. It would have at least been better with sweetness but it had absolute none.
I will say, we were kind of disappointed because we had a ton of food. However, when we left. Because there was nothing substantial really in any of the meals, we were still hungry after spending over $200 in food.
I would absolutely go again but check the menu before going to see if they have taken any of the suggestions. Loved the fried rice risotto from before with the miso beurre blanc, was excited to go back and have it. I would definitely incorporate it in one of the new meals. All in all nothing that was incredible and stood out like last time. Last visit was phenomenal.

Experience leaves more to be desired. It’s too bad because they were great when I had first visited. Overly priced for less than expected service. When people are paying these prices, they should be taken care of properly.

Extremely disappointed during my recent visit, which was my 3rd or 4th time dining here.

The service was extremely slow. Despite having a reservation at 8 PM, we weren't seated until 8:20ish. Then after ordering it took over 20-25 minutes to get our drinks.

The food was also disappointing. The sushi, in particular, was very small with barely anything inside. You can see how unsatisfactory it looks in the photos. My previous experiences here were much better.

When our food finally arrived, several items were missing, and we had to wait an additional 10-15 minutes for the order to be corrected.

Sushi Experience №107

This was our first time getting sushi after moving to Jacksonville from California where we have had many amazing sushi experiences. We had met our friends who have lived in the area for a while and highly raved about this sushi spot and who have also been here many times before. After reading their website, menu, and seeing the advertised quality and elegance of the restaurant we were excited to finally eat sushi again. They were accommodating for us bringing our stroller in with our 3 month old son. The front hostess was not very welcoming and seemed to have an attitude off the start which was odd at a place that advertises their service and quality as top tier. We sat down for our reservation in the dining room and were approached not too long after by our server who was not very enthusiastic. After putting in our food order and enjoying some drinks, the rolls started coming. For a place that is advertising their service as top tier it was a bit odd to have the server come over who was running the plate and not know where at the table the food was going to. They advertise the service as a one of a kind experience which I would compare to other similar tiered restaurants and this isn’t the norm. Another roll came out a few minutes later followed by another a few minutes after, about 5-8 minutes apart for the first three rolls, not a big deal. We then received our Otoro and Wagyu Nigiri pieces minutes later. We waited for the other roll for my wife while we ate maybe one piece from each of our rolls to be kind. We waited another 5-10 minutes patiently and finally said something to the waitress walking by that we were waiting for a roll. We were then told she would check on it. No apologies were said to us. Nothing else was said to us as we continued waiting. It probably was 15 minutes later and the roll for my wife finally arrived. We continued eating while this went on and I shared my roll with my wife. Luckily we had to take care of our son so that bought some distraction time. But we were all eating very slowly as to be kind and not finish before my wife’s food was even delivered. There was no communication or ownership taken as to why it was that late or how much longer until it would arrive. Our friends were pretty annoyed with the service since they had been there previously. When the food arrived, again there was no apologies or ownership taken as to why the food was so late. Had we ate at a normal speed we would have all been done before my wife’s roll had arrived. The quality of the fish was great and the flavors of the Otoro and Great White roll were great as well. However, the size of the rolls were very small compared to other sushi restaurants we had been to which was disappointing. The server never asked if we wanted a second drink or came back to ask if we needed anything or how the food was. In fact, one of the bussers actually asked my friend if he wanted another beer, which was again odd, and nobody else had been asked. The icing on the cake of this brutal service was the 20% gratuity that is automatically added to our check. Usually gratuity is added for larger parties, but we were a table of 5, including our 3 month old son. Per their website on the policies section: “Auto Gratuity Notice: Commencing February 1st, 2024, a 20% auto gratuity will be added to all dining patrons to ensure equitable compensation for our dedicated team and to ensure quality service.” I understand the equitable compensation portion as my wife has worked as a server years ago and people would dine at a fancy place like this and not tip because of how expensive it already was. I also believe in tipping a waiter/waitress based on the service that was provided and a basis like this allows for bad service to continue. Clearly adding an automatic gratuity does not entitle guests to exceptional service as we experienced. I would not have given the 20% had I been given the choice because it was not a 20% service experience, especially given the advertised quality and service the restaurant claims. A disappointing experience.

Very nice atmosphere and friendly, helpful staff. The fish was really nice but they overdid some of the dishes. Sometimes simple is better. The portions were also really small. We had the spicy tuna roll that one was my favorite , the aburi sake which was torched for some reason kinda ruined it for us, the luxury roll my least favorite but my husband’s favorite , we also had 8 salmon rolls, 2 hamachi and 2 madai all nigiri style. That seems like a lot but we were still left with wanting more food. Overall I think the price is a little high for the portion and the extra things added on the fresh fish ruined the experience . We spent $200 but if you want to feel full you might want to double that. My least favorite part was the wasabi : even thought we paid extra for the freshly grated wasabi it was tasteless, had no fragrance and had zero bite. I wouldn’t go again but I don’t regret the experience. If you want to impress a date it could be a nice experience but be ready to spend quite a bit for not that great of a comparison to an average sushi joint.

We sampled five dishes during happy hour. The shishito peppers were fantastic and filling -- the best menu item for your buck. The coconut king salmon also blew me away! The oysters disappointed because they were tiny, dry and lacking any flavorful toppings. Otherwise, this visit was a hit. We spent about $100 between two people including two glasses of wine. Happy hour ftw!

The place is nice, stylish and cozy. The dishes were delicious and our server was very nice. However, we waited around 20 minutes for each set of drinks to be served ( I personally had a glass of Prosecco lol ), and eventually, as we feel, we were overcharged.
The Margarita drink that my boyfriend ordered, with 1942 tequila, costs , !!!! 72$ each……
We know it’s an expensive, the best tequila, but come on guys.. 72$ for a drink, are you serious???

The money wasn’t a big deal, but this was just a principle, I mean it’s simply inappropriate to charge that much , for that amount of alcohol in a drink( and again we were waiting for that drink for about 20 minutes)

We mentioned this to the waitress and she did take something out of the cheque, which was very nice of her. But the aftertaste is still not very pleasant.
I’m not sure if we will ever be back, and I don’t wanna spoil their reputation either, but I think the management should know about this and take some measures. Food - great! Vibe - nice! Waitress- friendly! Restaurant’s and bar service- horrible !!!

Enjoyed a nice dinner here. I’d recommend going during happy hour as there are a decent amount of dishes you can choose from that are a few bucks cheaper than the regular menu. We selected a wide variety of options to have a lot to try and my highlights were the surf + turf roll (fav!), crispy brussel sprouts, A5 nigiri, and toro nuta. Dinged it down to a 4 because we felt rushed even though it wasn’t full by any means. Servers kept coming to check or take away plates and one time she picked up the plate before we were finished so we had to ask for it to be put back down.

Sushi Experience №126

What we did get, was good. Unfortunately it was my going away dinner and the birthday of my deceased mom, so maybe my expectations were a little high, but this isn’t a cheap place and there’s a dress code so, I expected good service. We didn’t get seated until 30 min after our reservation, which I brushed off. We had a drink at the bar, I’m trying to enjoy my time with my friends.
Drinks were good, apps were high quality and full of flavor. The problem was that everyone’s entrees got delivered, except for mine- for THIRTY MINUTES. By the third time they told me it was “almost ready”, I cancelled. I didn’t want my friends waiting any longer to eat. No biggie, just don’t charge me. Then, the part that really got me, was that the (I presume to be) the manager came and proceeds to tell me “well it’s only been thirty minutes”. Are you kidding me? So I need attitude for your dropped ball? I wouldn’t recommend if you want the kind of service they want you to pay for. If you want to sit at the bar and take your chances, it’s a good bet. Avoid the blonde manager lol.

All of the above and its basically a pub, so the food quality and assortment is as the one at the pub. There is nothing Japanese there but the plastic sakura tree outside. And they “add automatically” 20% gratuity to the bill, so ended up paying %40 tip. Will follow up on that ripoff. And it is soooo dark inside that it’s impossible to read the menu, not to mention a check. Music is so loud, that its pointless to have a conversation. Just drink. Like in a pub. Place is pretending to be fancy, well… fancy enough for Jacksonville youth. Aitnt is fancy darn good for a pub’yall? :) lol

Pretentious and over priced. Asked if I could order hot sake they said "only good sake comes in cold" 🙄. Ordered the 17 course meal. Outside is riddled with homeless and sketchy people. The rice outshines most of the dishes. The sushi is the best I've hade in Jacksonville only reason for 3 stars. The issue is the chefs act like they are any better than a run of the mill Japanese sushi place in Japan is crazy. I've had better sushi in Japan for 50$. The beers come in wine glasses 🤣. Great time, glad we tried!

My friend and I decided to try Norikase during my visit to Jacksonville and I'm so glad we went! Prices are decent for the product offered, though, like most sushi places, prepare to spend $$$-$$$$.

Drinks were delicious - I did a Tokyo Mule and it was spicy and gingery. The sushi was great. We got the Spicy Tuna and the Aburi Sake, which were great! Highly recommend. The Luxury role was nice, but a bit earthy for my taste. We splurged on the Wagyu sashimi, so good, too. I'm not new to Wagyu beef, and I thought the preparation was just perfect for the bite. Finally, the creme Brule was 10/10, so yummy.

Our server, Sam, was the absolute sweetest. She checked on us and kept our waters full and gave good suggestions. Very good experience.

I mentioned the luxury role wasn't super exciting, but the Blueberry Smoked Himachi may have been a bit too exciting. We weren't big fans. We were also sat in the back of the restaurant but not outside, and that area has significantly less ambiance than the front or patio. We did the happy hour at the bar before dinner and, while it's beautiful, the chairs were uncomfortable and tough to get in and out of, and the service was rushed.

My Fiancé and I came here for his birthday dinner and everything we had was amazing. Our server Mike had great recommendations and was so enthusiastic about the entire experience. This is by far the best sushi place we have been to and are already planning our next date here. Thanks again Mike!

Edit 02/10/24

The place was buzzing, and while every seat was taken in the building, the vibe was still swanky and good for a date night or night out with your tribe. The Hostess Team did a great job of trying to make sure everyone was taken care even though we didn't have a reservation. We decided to sit at the bar instead of waiting, but it all worked out. The food was well worth the wait.. This is not your avg sushi spot - it is a true Japanese cuisine experience. I have so many great things to say about my experience here that I don’t even know where to start!

Service: Exceptional! I took my friend here for her birthday and we were taken care of by Mike who personally went above and beyond for us! We were treated SO well here. And Mike was so knowledgeable about everything on the menu and had a true passion for the food, everything he recommended we loved. He was so patient and didn’t rush us which I really appreciated. Although the food was incredible he was really what made our night! We also had a few other people who would help out and refill our water or bring us our food and they were lovely too (shoutout to the really pretty, bubbly girl who was so sweet, I didn’t catch her name unfortunately).

Food: high quality, amazing flavors. Everything came out so beautiful and was so delicious! Nice portion sizes. Lots of variety.

Atmosphere: STUNNING. They have multiple sections that are all gorgeous. The ambiance was immaculate.

I had a 10/10 experience here and I cannot wait to go back and try the other things on the menu!

This restaurant has a beautiful interior and great sushi and cocktails. Unfortunately, the kitchen cannot handle service if you order 6 entrees as a table. Every entree came out one at a time with 10 mins or more in between. The last dish never hit the table after waiting for it for an hour and 15 mins, we requested the check and just wanted to leave. They tried to offer a sushi roll to us to hold us over until the entree got there, but the people waiting for their entree did not care for the roll they brought us.

One entree came out on a hot plate but all the food was cold, so it was sent back and it came back out 30 mins before we left with no last entree in sight. They comped the dish that was served cold and the dish that was never received, leaving us with an over 400 dollar bill after all eating separately and two people never getting food as they were sharing the last entree. As soon as things went wrong our server became scarce as she did not want to bring us bad news, but this resulted in us waiting another 5 mins after the check was dropped until we got fed up and took it up to the server station. 2 1/2 hours and 2/8 left hungry.

They also called us to inform us about the strict dress code before we arrived. We adhered to that, but when we arrived we were greeted in the entry way with another patron getting seated in an Ed Hardy sweatsuit with Ed Hardy across the butt. If you are going to call reservations about a dress code and have them alter their attire, adhere to the dress code for everyone or don't bother. And after all that no manager came over to speak with us. It was like they were afraid to address what was happening. This was a special occasion with family from across the USA including Hawaii, this experience was disappointing on all accounts. We do not expect perfection, but getting the food we ordered and eating together is the bare minimum expectation at a restaurant that boasts a fine dining experience.

Japanese Fine Dining. Yes.. it will be expensive.. yes.. it's built at the end of a plaza.. yes... you should make reservations!

I was skeptical about going with some mixed reviews on service when paying at the prices we were expecting. I'm glad we took the jump for our 11th anniversary.

Service (server was Emily) was perfect. She was tableside often but not so much that we felt bothered - perfect! Knowledgeable on the menu, kind with a smile, her recommendations were spot on for what we were looking for. Busers were quick and kind, and our water glasses were always topped off.

We had.. a lot.. from traditional bluefin nigiri to waygu A5 nigiri topped with winter truffle, everything was delicious on the raw end. I went out on a limb and ordered the ribeye as well. It was cooked perfectly, slices in strips and served with perfect accompaniments like fingerling potatoes, romanesco, and alan aus jus type of sauce. Again, perfection but on the heavier side, so we packed some to go. We finished the meal with the butter pecan creme brulee. It was as good as it sounds! As for drinks, just order what you like, they were all amazing or sounded amazing if we didn't order it.

The atmosphere was great. It was romantic, lively, and relaxed all at the same time! If you can step into a pair of humble pants and ignore the fact that it's in a plaza vs. a standalone building (I honestly don't care but some reviewers do) it's just fine. Plus it's on the end of a plaza so it's got its entire own section for parking!

Hands down 10/10 recommend.. but be ready with your big kid wallet.

We pretty much know what each of us will order. Once seated, we put in our cocktails. I ordered the birdie drink (chisai tori) because it's cute and my wife ordered the Japanese Negroni which we enjoyed.

But when it's time to order our Mains, our server informed us that the kitchen is out of commission. Wow! Now, we're stuck on ordering sushi. Went ahead and ordered the Golden California roll, the Surf and Turf roll, and an Ebi handroll. Pricey! We had to stop there for now. Let me start by saying this restaurant is absolutely gorgeous with the low lights and green vibes. It made me feel like a celebrity just walking in. The staff was amazing, there's always someone around to take dirty plates from the table. The waiters were super sweet and very knowledgeable. And even when one waiter didn't know the answer, they'd ask another waiter to get an answer for us. Needless to say, we tipped them heavy. Now let's talk drinks. You can see by my photo that there's a really green drink? THATS MATCHA BEER. MATCHA. So if you like matcha and you love beer, you have to try it at least once. It is, however, their most expensive beer ($25 per bottle) so if the price isn't sitting right, trust me, it's worth a try at least one time (I felt like a sexy super villain). The other drinks were amazing too (I got the Summer Thyme in Okinawa and my bf got X Marks The Spot) but that matcha beer was definitely my favorite for the night. Onto food, if you're a lover of raw fish, get the fatty tuna. Get that otoro sashimi/nigiri and it just melts like butter in your mouth, it's sooooo good. I got the prawns with the gouda polenta and my bf got a surf and turf roll with waygu beef and shrimp. Portions are a little small for the entrees but the food is amazing and surprisingly filling if you're looking for a healthy way to get full. The star of the table was definitely the otoro, I would go back there just for the matcha beer and the otoro. This place is definitely a once a month type of deal, a little expensive for our budget, but seeing as though we live right down the street, this is definitely going to be a regular place to spoil ourselves at! There is a dress code I believe, just wear some nicer, casual clothes and you'll be golden. Also make a reservation, the bar gets full so fast at night and it's first come first serve. We made that mistake the first time we tried to go
