S3 (Sun Surf Sand)

Location is right across the beach and city's main road. There are two entrances, one from the hotel side and one from the street side. The place is always crowded and noisy, no matter the sitting location.

While the food was fresh and truly a testament to fusion food, everything was too expensive and too much. Dishes felt less like an attempt to creatively combine multiple flavours and more like a challenge to see how much ingredients you can stack on a plate. The food wasn't offensive otherwise. Price reflects the location and young-rich clientele of people, not the food.

Arriving into FTL hungry and tired, we wandered into S3 based on recommendations from other visitors. It didn’t disappoint!

Sushi was fresh and rolls were packed with the good stuff vs being all rice.

Our server did seem to rush us a bit; however, it was understandable since we arrived at 9:30 and they closed at 10pm. We waffled on ordering dessert, but the coconut cake was well worth it! It was enormous so we enjoyed it back in our hotel room for several days! Ha! The berries included were exceptional.

Came across this nice place that has seafood and in a good location on the beach. Staff could have been a slight bit better it was rush hour so understandable,but the atmosphere and food was good for it. I still had an amazing time with an amazing view while enjoying my night. Food came out in a timely manner but didn’t get a check up after food was delivered to us and needed a few things. But, amazing place to have date night, special occasions or family dinner. I won’t be visiting if I’m in the area but my experience was decent enough to have a great night and amazing food.

Best sushi restaurant we have ever been to - fresh fish flown in from a fish market in Japan 3x a week. We got the Sashimi Box for $60 which had 7 varieties of fish and came with 2 pieces each so we each could try the fish. There was not a piece in there that tasted too fishy. Everything was tender, delicate, clean, fresh and the house made soy sauce was not too salty. A delicious and fun culinary voyage. To start, we had the Goat Cheese croquettes which were really good and got two each to eat.

We sat outside with a good view of the ocean and people. Service was friendly and good as well.

Great high end spot by the beach. Especially pretty at night. The duck fat onion rings tasted like regular onion rings to me but were good. I don’t remember the name, but there was a sushi roll that had pear in it, and it was very good. There was also one that had mushroom on top and that one was bleh. Overall good restaurant. The only thing I didn’t like was The waiter kept on telling us they had a 5 star Michelin sushi chef, felt like he was talking out of his ass because Michelin stars only go to 3, who knows if any of that was true.

This is the perfect “sushi by the beach” high end restaurant. Amazing view sitting out front beach side eating some extremely good sushi. You could tell it was fresh as they fly it in. Well done all around. Waiter missed a couple drink orders but he was busy. This place is amazing.. will definitely go back!

Delicious food, great service and amazing views. What more can you ask for? The wok charred edamame, Ora King salmon cones and Hamachi Tiradito are my new favorites. My wife is Gluten Free and they were knowledgeable and accommodating.

We had an AMAZING experience at S3. Food and drinks were impeccable. We started with the Korean fried chicken and milk monkey bread and literally said, “Can it get better than this?” And it could. The salmon sake sashimi was amazing and so was the duck bao board. 1000000000% worth the price. The only thing we ordered in hindsight that I would skip was the lo mein, and not because it wasn’t good, but because it’s kind of the same everywhere and we just absolutely had eyes bigger than our stomachs. I had the yuzu ginger mule which was one of the yummiest cocktails I’ve ever had, and my boyfriend tried the Sun refresher (amazing), the #nosleep espresso martini, and the smoke signal old fashioned, all of which he was very happy with. When we’re back in the Ft. Lauderdale area we will for sure be coming back. Do not skip S3 on your trip, you won’t regret it!

We decided to make the big drive from WPB to Fort Lauderdale for a nice New Year's Day dinner today. We've been very loyal customers for years so we felt confident that it would be worth the time, money, distance. Unfortunately, things did not go as smoothly as we'd hoped. Though the food was delicious the service was truly lacking. We brought this to the attention of a manager who apologized but then quickly forgot us. We've loved this restaurant for years and recommended it to many people but we're done now. Not worth the money or inconvenience. Let all the tourists have it. Obviously that's who they're catering to

The food, restaurant ambience, and service was all wonderful. I would absolutely return.
Food preparation was unique and delicious.
Our server was lovely and had a great attitude.

The one and only drawback was the temperature maintained in the restaurant. It was so cold in the restaurant, for the entire duration of our meal, that we couldn't sit comfortably unless we kept our coats on the entire time.

If you decide to go there avoid the area directly behind the sushi bar, as the air conditioning vents are on a continual full blast.

Overall, this restaurant has always been a five for me and my wife. However, as of late, they have changed the menu and removed their mac & cheese and modified their sashimi yellowtail with a garnish/topping , which could be the most egregious decision they could ever make, it’s not good.

This latest visit feels like a goodbye tour. S3 is becoming less luxury and fine dining and more commercialized with their “bang bang shrimp”, following in the wrong footsteps behind Bonefish.

I came here for Christmas dinner with a party of 8, I ordered a vast amount of items off the menu, all delicious! My server CASSIDY was extremely attentive to me and my family despite how busy the restaurant was. She was extremely kind and never left us waiting. I would definitely recommend requesting her.

Tremendous service and food. We ordered the dynamite roll as an appetizer. I kid you not, the roll came out 30 seconds after being ordered, I couldn’t believe it. Not only did it come out fast, but it was amongst the best sushi I have had in a very long time.

Six people, food came out at different times, everyone's food was cold when delivered, even the dish sent back. Arrival of food was spread out over 45 minutes. Eggs were cold, and sauce was refrigerator cold. Apparently, the kitchen is unable to serve everyone at the same time. We overheard servers telling other tables. Won't be back.

We had a couple not great experiences years ago at S3, but last night we decided to give it one more chance and we are so glad we did. The food, service, and everything was wonderful! Our server Jinan was amazing. We ordered cocktails, the spicy tuna crispy rice, edamame, grilled Caesar, steak, and fried rice and it was all delicious. The manager told us that they are under new management for a year and it definitely has made the whole experience so much better. We will definitely be going back.

My date and I dined here this past Saturday night and had a truly wonderful experience. From the elegant atmosphere accentuated by candlelight and cozy outdoor fire pits, to the seating hosts who checked us in, escorted us to our table, and took our photo at the end of the night, to our amazing server, Terry White, who was very knowledgeable about the menu changes and made sure we had exceptional service. We didn't have to ask for a thing, as Terry anticipated our needs in advance and checked on us regularly throughout our meal. We ordered the Goat Cheese Croquettes with guava and the Berry Breeze drink to start, followed by the spicy tuna roll and Thai tuna roll, and ended the evening with the blondie topped with vanilla ice cream. Each item was served to us quickly by Terry and was of Michelin-level quality -- even the blondie dessert was superior to any other I have had in the past. We will definitely be back!

I only came for the happy hour but was really impressed by the portions/quality for the price. Great outdoor seating with fire pits. Really attentive wait staff and lots of good menu options. Staying next door at hotel and this had good reviews so we gave it a go. We sat at outside bar. The food was just awful. Bang bang shrimp app was good. After that it went downhill quick. Seaweed salad was disgusting. It was not like one I ever had before. I think they walked across the street and picked it up off the shore. My boyfriend had a house salad that was nasty too. It was dark and bland and they only had one type of dressing. My spicy tuna roll was mush. I’ve had better from Publix. He had the NY strip and it was all fat. His garlic mash and asparagus was good. Servers were attentive but not friendly. We asked if they had ESPN to watch game and he said yes, but didn’t change the channel even though nobody was watching it. He had two beers and I had two drinks. $200 total, so not worth it. We won’t return.

This has to be the worst Bar in the state of Florida. The owners and management have to be incompetent!!

We just left the bar with 14 people who wanted to spend a couple hours relaxing before our dinner reservations.
The average $15 per drink and when we placed our order ACROSS FROM THE BEACH ON THE OUTDOOR PATIO WE DISCOVERED THE OWNER AND MANAGER DECIDED NO BEACH DRINKS FOR CUSTOMERS!!!!

14 of us wanted to drink their $15 drinks and a few wanted frozen beach drinks BUT NO!!! THE OWNER AND MANAGEMENT OF THIS BAR ARE INCOMPETENT AND HAVE NO CONCERN OF WHAT THEIR CUSTOMERS WANT AND SONT CARE.

We had to go a block away and gave them a LOT OF MONEY for customer service that was wonderful and who have owners and managers that care about customers.

DO NOT GO TO THE BAR!!!

Went there to celebrate my 24th birthday last night with some friends and had such an amazing experience. It was our first time and we can all agree that we will definitely come back. Cameron, our server, was amazing! He was helpful and was very attentive. The manager, which unfortunately didnt get his name, was also very kind and generous! There was a little bit of wait for our table to be ready since we were a large party but they definitely made up for it. I will be recommending this restaurant to all my friends and family for sure. 10/10

Had dinner with a large group of 10 people. We also enjoyed drinks before and after dinner at the outside bar. The food was very good. We had a large assortment of sushi that was all excellent. The server was very knowledgeable however she seemed like she disliked her job and wasn’t super pleasant. The service at the bar was excellent and we really enjoyed our service outside! After dining for dinner here for 3 nights, we have a few recommendations. Dine before 6pm and stick with S3 core strength which is seafood. The sushi menu is varied and delicious.

Two attempts with steak were very disappointing. Quality of the meat is poor and they don't cook how to cook meat to the requested temperature.

Be ready to wait 30 minutes after your actual reservation. The waitress will recommend the Bang, Bang shrimp, but it’s not that good. Try a different appetizer. Also, order your food when you order your appetizer because the waitress doesn’t come back for a while. DO NOT ORDER the Lo mein noodle wok. It’s not good. Good luck!

service was great and have always loved the atmosphere but i ordered the burrata and heirloom tomatoes…. the bread was charred beyond being able to enjoy… the tomatoes were definitely cut about 2-3 days prior and were fizzy and mushy (i’m a chef so i can pick up on these things easily)

sucks because the dish had such great potential! but no one wants a fizzy gritty mushy 3 day old cut tomato… or black charred bread… for 20$

disappointed as i’ve been coming here for years. the quality in food is declining….

i always get the ole trusty goat cheese croquettes and they were cold in the middle! not melty at all.

i hate to complain because i know accidents happen, no hard feelings but probably best to pass this info onto the chef to regulate constancy as i really used to love this spot! :(

I loved this restaurant so much a few months ago, that I came back for a second time to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday! Mind you, we were only visiting from Chicago for a long weekend, and S3 really topped it off. We ordered the bang bang shrimp to start; it was super flavorful and fresh. The birthday boy has the fried rice bowl with steak and I had two of their specialty rolls: all of which were delightful. Our server Timothy was well-informed, helpful, and moved with purpose at lightening speed with a big smile. The pinnacle to this wonderful dinner was the amazing Coconut birthday cake that came out with a sparkler. It tasted heavenly. This Coconut cake was so huge that it could feed a table of 4. My only regret at S3, was nothing to do with the restaurant and everything to do with me; I forgot the boxed up cake! I was tempted to take a $15 Uber ride just to go back for the Coconut cake! But now I'll have an excuse to go back once more. Thank you Timothy and S3! ❤️

Ok , full disclosure i am a food snob from Chicago, which is known for its insanely outstanding restaurants. I come to fort lauderdale on the regular and dine out often. Unfortunately my dining experience fails compared to what I am accustomed to. Coming to S3 is an absolute delight . The food is top notch as well as the very friendly and accommodating staff. Our server Timothy is the bomb. AMAZING SERVICE!!
The bang bang shrimp was outstanding in portion as well as taste. Sushi was fresh and delicious. I ordered the fried rice bowl with steak which was also amazing . We celebrated my birthday and received the coconut cake which was huge and probably the best cake I ever had.. love this place . Best restaurant in lauderdale

Nice spot for drinks and yummy appetizers. Had an unexpectedly positive experience when the manager corrected a mistake on the bill. He graciously acknowledged it, and rectified it beyond our expectations. Kudos to customer service!

I recently dined at S3 Restaurant with my boyfriend to celebrate our anniversary, hoping for a pleasant end to a long day. Unfortunately, our experience was far from what we had anticipated. S3 had been one of our favorite restaurants and was even the location of our first date, making this celebration especially significant for us. From the moment we arrived, the host's standoffish and rude demeanor set a negative tone for the evening. This initial impression was compounded by our server, who was noticeably short and unwelcoming throughout the meal. The lack of attentiveness and warmth was disappointing, especially on such a special occasion. While the food could not completely redeem the service issues, the overall experience was ruined by the service. It’s a shame, as the restaurant’s ambiance and menu had the potential to make for a memorable evening. Regrettably, given the service we encountered, we won’t be returning.

An exceptional dining experience which was made by our server Jinan. I have eaten at restaurants over the world and she is by far a top class waitress and one of the best I have ever come across. She was very kind, personable and accommodating. My husband thoroughly enjoyed the lobster main and shrimp appetizer. I was able to eat a customized plant based tofu vegetable fried rice dish which was delicious.

I recently visited S3 and was impressed by the location and atmosphere—it's got a great Hawaiian-style vibe that really sets the mood. The food overall was good, and I found everything to be great for the price quality. Cocktails are priced in the $15-$18 range, which is pretty standard but pricey...

I came specifically for the goat cheese croquettes and the octopus, and both were very good. However, I was disappointed by the price of the shushi special. It ended up being $85 for one shushing roll, two pieces of sushi with foie gras, and a small ball of leche de tigre. While it was tasty, it didn't feel worth the $85, and I wish the price had been noted on the menu. The bill ended up above $200 with 3 coktails, one shushi course, 1 croquette, and one octopus shared for 2 persons.

Overall, it was a nice experience, but just be mindful of the special items that might come with a high price tag. Service was also too slow to my taste, but I was on vacation, so it was not too much a big deal.

Nice environment.Great staff.Exceptional waitresses…But the food was mid.The fried rice was embarrassing.Steak had no flavor,thank goodness for chimichurri…And the portion couldn’t fill a child’s stomach,physically.No for real my son was still hungry after we left and he finished his meal…S3 let’s do better,that hotel is too good for mid dining.

Bar Service was ok. Drink was good, Octopus was good and soft, branzino was just ok, fried rice was wayyy too salty to the point I couldn't eat.
Valet parking only, at the W hotel.
Having other options around, I would probably try somewhere else next time

I came because of the stellar ratings so i had to leave some positive ratings. I Stopped in for lunch with my puppy and we were both greeted so warmly. My server was Cameron and he couldn’t have been more excellent. He guided me to the best hits off the menu. Sharing his personal and honest takes. The food was amazing. The atmosphere was relaxed and sophisticated without being stuffy, as was the service and food. Absolutely go here and enjoy!

I had the best experience at S3. My and girlfriend and I were vacationing in Florida for her birthday. Our server Jinan was so nice and made us feel like we were the only ones in the restaurant from what looked like a super busy night. We were given THE BEST recommendations for sushi and our favorite was the lucky roll. Would be back again.

From the beautiful sunset views, to the delicious and magnificent service, was truly perfect. Lupita was taking care of us at the bar and she was amazing! From start to finish she was incredible, from the smoked old fashion she made to the BEST espresso martini I’ve ever had. She was always making sure our needs were consistently met, on top of answering all of our difficult questions about our allergies, she truly made our experience next level. I will be coming back to see Lupita at the bar!!

Came in here today for happy hour and was very impressed. Jackie took care of my group and we always had what we needed. She recommended the bang bang shrimp and the Korean fried chicken- both were great. Glad we found this spot, we will be back!

I stopped by here as I was staying at the Hilton. Let me tell you, what I thought would be a quick stop turned into an all night ordeal! The food and the service were amazing. I loved the lounge area outside, it was cocktail hour. Me and my group of friends were helped by a waitress named Jackie. The food was amazing and drinks too, but attentiveness and jolly attitude stole the show she made the night amazing! We’ll definitely be back next year and hope she’s still there!!

Thank you, Pablo, Tara, and Sam for an amazing happy hour experience. Your knowledge of your drink menu and the obvious time you have but in to deliver superior beverages is evident. I recommend the Chrysanthemum Sake and my husband enjoyed the Yumzu Ginger Mule. I highly recommend S3 and will be back for dinner.

Volume of the music today was just unbearable to the point me and a group of loyal locals left to Takato, place next door...a couple of amazing bartenders that treated us like royalty were also recently let go. Upset. Not sure if I'll continue patronizing this place with so many options around.

Was in town for work and found a seat at a high bar table outside. I was promptly greeted by my smiling waitress who introduced herself as Jackie. She made me feel so welcome. I have been to S3 many times and was extremely pleased with the service Jackie provided! My friend and I split the Steak, mashed potatoes and asparagus along with a few sake cocktails that she recommended to us. Everything was delicious and I hope to have her as our server again!

Went to dine here earlier around Tuesday night. My server was jinan a taller dark girl.
In the beginning things were good our server gave us a great recommendation and our drinks came out fast. Only problem was the food was only food and didn’t stand out too much. Would come again however.

My only complaint is that I wish I found s3 sooner!! Came in for happy hour with a friend and was so impressed by the options on the happy hour menu. Was greeted by Jackie, our server. She brought great energy and recommendations. Loved the edamame and bang bang shrimp. Drinks were perfect. This place is a must try
