I had an awesome experience! The environment was very fun and the chef/staff were very friendly & welcoming. They addressed dietary restrictions first and foremost. I was treated very well, the sushi was phenomenal, had some great sake and cocktail, good conversation, and left with no regrets. I decided to treat myself to a new experience and try the "bougie" option for 17 courses, it was incredibly worth it! The quality, flavor, and crafting of the sushi was amazing. Being able to watch the making of the sushi and eat it immediately made for a great dining experience. The music made for a great mood as well. Give them a try and enjoy engaging with the staff and your chef!

Sushi by Bou is a must-visit spot for sushi lovers! I had been excited to try their DC location, and it did not disappoint. Located on the rooftop of Citizen Hotel near L’Enfant Plaza, the experience was absolutely worth the wait.
My guest and I opted for the 12-course omakase tasting menu—an incredible deal at just $60 per person for 60 minutes of expertly crafted sushi. Each piece was fresh and flavorful, making it a truly memorable dining experience.
The ambiance was equally impressive, with retro 70s vibes, glittering disco balls, and a drink-only lounge that kept the night alive. The heated rooftop igloo was the highlight for us—a cozy, intimate spot to relax and take in the stunning views of the Capitol and Washington Monument.
This spot perfectly blends amazing food, unique vibes, and breathtaking scenery. Highly recommend checking it out if you’re in DC!

Amazing experience, the sushi was absolutely to die for especially the items from the secret menu. Definitely try the crispy rice! The cocktails are beauty crafted! Beautiful view of the capitol and a rooftop patio for outdoor seating. The bathrooms are very pristine. Alejandro was great and the new ale carte menu was divine.

My new favorite omasake spot! I would fly in just to experience this place again. A huge shout out to Sushi Chef Sean! Not only were his creations better with each entree but his energy was unlike other's I've experienced. Good conversation by joining at the right times. We were celebrating our anniversary and Chef Sean made the night feel more special than it needed to be. I am so thankful for his thoughtfulness and his craftiness. The cocktail selection was very fun and delicious! Don't skip on the hibiscus one! I cant wait to go back to DC for dinner!

Had a great experience at Sushi by Bou with Chef Sean! He was very hospitable, a talented chef, and a lovely conversationalist.
Sushi was delicious, creative, and fresh. Decor was fun too. Since we were returning, they gave us a few drinks on the house (since I don’t drink, I got a little hibiscus yuzu combo). Highly recommend!

This was my second visit to this restaurant, and it exceeded my expectations! Starting with the atmosphere, the space is beautifully decorated and aesthetically pleasing. The staff were attentive, incredibly kind, and provided excellent customer service. The chef was fantastic and even accommodated my sister and me by replacing our omakase shots for non-alcoholic drinks. We had the 17-course and it was filling.
Now, onto the food: the fish was incredibly fresh, and the flavors were both unique and delightful. Every bite showcased the quality and creativity of the dishes. This spot is perfect for a girls’ night out or a date night. I’m already planning my next visit!

The sushi here is delicious - very fresh, with lots of creativity in the colors, textures, flavors, and temperatures. Chef Sean works quickly and efficiently to serve guests, but don’t expect to feel full even after the 17 courses - it is only 1 sushi per course. There was also little presentation to each dish which is usually the case at this level of dining - they were just placed on the same plate in front of us one after another.
The atmosphere decorations were very well done and the small rooftop area has a great view. Unfortunately, the bar seating was incredibly cramped, sitting touching shoulders guest to guest. I feel that they tried to cram too many seats along the bar.
The service is the only thing that really could use some attention. When paying $200+ per guest, this is part of the experience. Waters were not filled and we had to ask several times, there was only 1 bartender on staff who made great cocktails but it was hard to find her and order. We also could not flag down a waiter to pay.

I absolutely loved my experience here at Sushi by Bou! I tried the 15 course Omakase and found every bite to be incredibly fresh and tasty. My favorites were the hamachi and Gindara nigiri. The decor and atmosphere is so unique and vibrant! The customer service was impeccable - Alex, Alexis, Alvaro, and Nadia were all amazing and very accommodating and made my experience feel much more homely. I would certainly return here next time I stay at the Citizen M.

We had an unforgettable experience at Sushi by Bou this past Sunday. Indulging in the 12-course sushi was an absolute delight, with each piece more exquisite than the last. The staff were incredibly attentive and friendly, making us feel right at home. Special shoutout to our chef, Tugu, who provided exceptional service and crafted each dish with passion and precision, even while celebrating his birthday. I highly recommend Sushi by Bou to anyone looking to explore a variety of top-notch sushi.

This place is a vibe! We were gifted the 12 course Omakase, and the experience exceeded our expectations. Chef Sean was superb - every course was top-notch. The bartenders kept our glasses full, and manager Alex went above and beyond to make sure we were satisfied. Rooftop views of the capitol were an added bonus. Our gift stated gratuity was included, but we left extra as we weren't sure on the percent and wanted to make sure staff felt appreciated.

My favorite sushi restaurant I’ve ever been to
Visited 3 months ago
Whenever I go on a business trip abroad, I always eat sushi locally, and this restaurant is one of the best. You can enjoy sushi like that served in high-end sushi restaurants in Japan at a very reasonable price. This restaurant may have a pop atmosphere and not feel high-end. But the sushi is real, and be sure to try the Omakase (chef's choice course).
You will be advised to eat the sushi with your hands, so please follow this advice. This is one of the ways to serve the sushi rice in the best condition. Good sushi has soft rice, and it is difficult to eat with chopsticks unless you are very used to using chopsticks. Don't worry, even high-end sushi restaurants in Japan advise you to eat with your hands.
There is also sushi topped with truffles. This is not common in Japan, so if you are used to Japanese sushi, you can decline the truffle. I don't like truffles because they mask the fishy taste. (However, truffles are often used in high-end sushi restaurants overseas)

Pros- Food and price were decent. At least omakase was all seafood and no deep-fried American food. Chef was passionate about their work, which always makes the experience better.
Cons- Seating was cramped; elbow to elbow with our neighbors. Hard to move in and out of chair. Elevator was confusing and there’s no signs and no staff to direct you. One of the elevators won’t move if you don’t have the hotel card to scan it.
I was not full after the 12 courses omasake plus 3 more pieces of nigiri 😅. My bmi is 20.
Some seafood was more fresh than others is the best I can put it. They don’t do sashimi, which to me it’s a sign their seafood is not the most fresh. You could taste it too when an area of the nigiri is not heavily seasoned, smoked, or with squeezed lemon juice.
For this price, food quality, and environment, I will save for sushi taro.

This was my first Omakase Experience and I’m so glad I experienced it here. When I was first walked in the energy was high. The staff greeted me and walked me to my seat. It was amazing and so cool seeing a Black Sushi Chef, Sean. He was amazing. Each piece was great. The salmon and yellowtail were my favorite. I would recommend this to everyone, even though I want to gatekeep lol.

Cool spot, but poorly executed sushi and a vibe that doesn't match omakase. Wife got food poisoning (I did not).
For $100/person I don't think it matches to other omakase places. Visually the rooftop bar is cool, and the staff is kind. However, the nigiri is small and poorly prepared - sauce, wasabi or toppings heavy handed to the point I can hardly enjoy the fish. Also they let you know it's timed and you are promptly escorted out- the experience felt very rushed for a $100/person.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Sushi By Bou in Washington, DC, and my first sushi omakase experience did not disappoint. Finding the hotel was a breeze, and I was graciously escorted upstairs to the restaurant. From the moment I walked in, the entire staff was friendly, engaging, and truly entertaining, making me feel right at home.
The chefs at Sushi By Bou outdid themselves; every bite I took was a masterpiece of flavors and textures. I savored 12 different sushi pieces and sampled 3 more à la carte, each one surpassing my expectations. The variety and freshness of the ingredients were unparalleled.
I also had the opportunity to try three different cocktails, expertly crafted by the talented bartender, Kris. Each drink was a delightful complement to the exquisite sushi. Alejandro kept the positive vibes going all night long, ensuring that we were well taken care of and having a great time.
Overall, my experience at Sushi By Bou was nothing short of amazing. The combination of delicious food, outstanding service, and a lively atmosphere made it a night to remember. I can’t wait to go back for another round of omakase bliss!

This is definitely was a culinary experience worthy of a perfect 5 star rating. To have both good and customer service top tier in a fun atmosphere is really hard to obtain. The sushi chefs were great and the food was delicious. Friendly service and a really cool vibe to the place. I had previously dined at the NYC location and I think the menu was pretty much the same, not meant to be derogatory but I’m not sure how much the menu varies seasonally or by location. Would definitely recommend SBB if you’ve never had omakase before. It’s a great place to try!

Everything about this place is fabulous! I have been three times now and each meal is better than the next. The fish quality is far superior to anything else you're doing to find in DC, I love the drinks, and everyone there is so nice. Highly recommend but only if you are adventurous in your eating since you do not choose the courses.

That place looked like a little too-gimmicky at first glance, but we were there, so we thought we’d give it a chance. OpenTable had given us the option to reserve a high table, and we did. Upon arrival at the reserved time slot, a hostess came to us with a let’s-get-this-over attitude that reminded me of horribly underpaid fast food workers. She said she was seating us at the bar, which we neither reserved nor wanted! When I told her that we wanted a high table or a table on the balcony (in an almost 80% empty restaurant on a Saturday night), she seemed incapable of knowing what to do. She then went and got a guy who was dressed just like her, but maybe somehow knew more than she did? Well, he didn’t. By the way, he did not talk to us, but instead just had a side chat with her. That guy then went and got the person who supposedly was above him? And that’s the man with whom we take issue! He came almost offended right off the bat that we had asked not to sit at the bar (the bar had all the stools occupied and we would have had to literally rub elbows with strangers), and right away told us that we had to sit at the bar. I said we’d happily pick whatever package (for a supposed fine dining restaurant!) but we’d like to sit at a high table instead. He immediately and dismissively said “yeah, we’re not doing that!” Which I found to be very disrespectful. He then, as if doing me a favor, said we could sit at the bar and have TWELVE COURSES, and then move to a table and order more stuff. I said “and we could leave”. Instead of acting or pretending to be an accommodating host, he said “whatever bro, I have no problem with that.” Not sure why he decided to call me “bro,” when I’m a professional coming with a friend to a supposedly reputable establishment for dinner. Our dinner plans for a Saturday night were ruined. We had to find an alternative and in the absence of a reservation, we had to settle for a mediocre experience somewhere else. Bottom line is: I will never ever step foot in that place again, and I advise the management to look very closely at the person assigned as the manager at that place. He is not fit to work in the service industry. I will make sure to post this review on every review website out there!

A Sushi Lover's Dream
I had the pleasure of dining at Sushi by Bou DC this weekend with an amazing close friend, and it was an absolutely delightful experience! From the intimate ambiance to the top-tier service, everything was thoughtfully curated for a perfect night out.
The omakase experience was nothing short of phenomenal. Each piece of sushi was crafted with such precision and care, and the freshness of the fish was undeniable. Every bite was a symphony of flavors, and the attention to detail by the chefs really elevated the entire meal.
The staff was also fantastic—friendly, knowledgeable, and happy to explain the different courses and ingredients, making it both an educational and delicious experience. It’s clear they take pride in what they do.
If you're a sushi lover or even just looking for a special culinary adventure in DC, Sushi by Bou is the place to go. I’ll definitely be back for another unforgettable meal!

Food was really good. Service was great. But you are on a one hour (or less) time limit to eat 17 courses and it just gave me a stomachache to feel that rushed. At the last course they then say time is up, even if you still have you drinks, and ask you to sit somewhere else. Because of this I would not go back nor would I recommend it to anyone.

The staff was very accommodating and welcoming. We arrived a bit early for our reservation but they still tended to us asking if we wanted drinks, etc. while the previous omakase experienced finished up.
Once seated, the sushi chef was quick yet very attentive to the care they put in each piece of nigiri that was served.

Let’s get to the review!
food: omakase has amazing flavors and it tastes even better when u see the chef enjoy making it for you.
interior/exterior: you go to the elevator to get to the rooftoop. the interior is fun and beautiful. lots of art to create some fun social media content
staff: chefs and the staff are super welcoming. Feels like a family thats always welcoming you to dinner. chef sean makes the sushi SOOO tasty. flavorful and great mixes with the seafood.
price: price is worth it for their service, quality and presentation
Presentation: everything was presented beautifully.
Overall: I recommend to come if you’re having a fun cute casual date or going to eat casual with your friends. We will see you again Chef Sean - Dalena and Cheng 🔥

Went for their sushi omakase with a friend. Beautiful location, sitting at the rooftop of Citizen M Hotel, overlooking The Capitol. Has indoor and outdoor seating. Plenty of street parking when we got there late afternoon although I was told that some of the unmarked spaces get ticketed or towed.
Alexis was an entertaining chef/host. Omakase had an excellent variety of sushi. Each piece had well balanced flavor profiles, and pretty unique from each other. I was kind of wanting more but felt satisfied with the 12 piece course. Easy favorites are the fatty tuna, wagyu, and scallops. Course ran for a little under an hour which I felt was perfect if you want a quick dinner or move on to some of their other offerings.
Only thing I'd suggest is for the chef to kind of go over the things that were being put on our serving plate. I wanted to know some of the things that were in the nigiri, but our chef did answer them when I asked. Overall very happy with the experience, and one of the better sushi places I've been to value and quality wise.

First time I came here, the wasabi was too strong on all the pieces and the pieces of fish were so itty bitty, not worth the money at all.
Second time I came to use the 2 for 1 omakase deal, where the rice was undercooked so all of the pieces tasted slightly crumbly and unpleasant. The slices of fish were much more decently sized this time, but they torched the thin albacore for so long that it become completely cooked when served.
The lights flicker on and off and do not seem to sync with anything, giving the impression that the power is about to go out. The high chair are extremely awkward and difficult to hop on and slide closer to the bar.

Can't possibly say enough good about Sushi by Bou. My wife and I have taken friends to every Michelin restaurant in DC + the Inn at Little Washington and love to try every culinary experience we can find practically every week. Sushi by Bou will always stand out.
We started the night out by picking up our good friend flying in from Canada for us to show her around DC on Labor Day weekend. I realized we were going to be late so I called the restaurant and they were happy to accommodate our later time, even closer to closing. Upon arrival, we were greeted professionally and warmly by all staff who called me by my name and specifically welcomed our "friend visiting from Canada." The welcome shots were excellent, smiles were wide and authentic, and the service + food... how do I give enough praise??
I won't bark on about the food. Just believe us, it's objectively and painfully delicious. I'm already tired thinking about how much I could write about the food so let's leave it at that. What a heartbreak to leave that place knowing what you're missing every day you're not there.
Talking to the Preparers, Cooks, Chef, Hosts, it was all an amazingly fun time. Couldn't have kick of the weekend full of adventures any better. We're guaranteed to be back. I understand Sushi by Bou is newer in DC. The current recipe is definitively perfect, now it just has to be consistent. I'm confident they'll be able to do it.

An incredible experience at Bou, as always. So happy to see a DC location added. Sean was the best chef!

I am a big fan of the chain. I have probably dined at 5 of their locations. When I heard DC was getting a location I could not wait to make a reservation. Concept is simple you have a 12 course omakase with some ad ons and great cocktail options. Music is loud, food is served quickly and staff are always friendly. This location is fairly new and I loved the roof top views. About 10 diners at any given time with an outside patio and indoor seating for drinks as well. My friend and I ordered the omakase and added the Big Mac as well. The fish was fresh, buttery and delicious. The Big Mac is a must if you love seafood. The hokkaido uni, scallop, wagyu and toro were a nice combination. The chefs were lively, energetic and friendly.
We really enjoyed our experience here. We were in and out in under 1 hour. Their menu is limited. If you want rolls and the non conventional sushi this is not your place. Seats are a bit cramped so if you want space and more private dining experience Sushi by Bou is not it. I loved the decorations, ambience and the roof top here. Highly recommend booking around sunset to get the views and check their website for specials.

We have visited several of the Sushi By Bou locations, all in NYC, and this was our first visit to the DC one. First, the view is amazing: clear views of the Capital and the Washington Monument from the rooftop. There happened to be a mistake with our reservation, but the host Alejandro got us seated at the next seating an hour later, and went out of his way to make sure we were cared for as we waited. Our Omakase chef, Sean, was the best. We were able to have great conversation during our meal, and treated with delicious sushi. He incorporated all of our favorite fish, and catered to all of our likes and dislikes. He made our night truly memorable and hope to have him again for our next visit!

Had a great experience here! I randomly decided to try this place out and I'm glad I did. Now, what you SHOULD do is make a reservation but when I say I, randomly decided, I mean randomly decided.
I didn't have a res but they were able to squeeze me into the experience. Since I was an extra, Alejandro (who I'm assuming is a manager) attended to me! He was so attentive, kind, and accommodating!
The sushi was so good! I've had a few omakases and what I loved about this was that it a reasonable amount at a GREAT price.
The decor speaks for itself. Disco balls??? I'm in. The rooftop is a great perk especially since the weather is fantastic right now.
I came here on my own but definitely excited to bring my friends!

Best sushi in the area, yummy drinks, amazing vibe & view.

We chose the 12 course omakase experience.
The food was good for the price BUT my boyfriend and I had two different chefs for the experience so I was perpetually 3 courses ahead of him and we couldn’t enjoy the food together.
Also the music was very loud. Not a fan of club music and thumping bass while I’m trying to enjoy the sushi.
The chef and servers were great!

Overall, a great experience. Really nice ambience. Rooftop views were lovely. The place was not crowded or noisy, felt very artistic, colorful, and clean. Good location. The sushi quality was really good and tasted amazing. The portions were small, though I suppose that should be expected given the low price for an omakase experience. As others have mentioned, the pace felt rushed. They clearly wanted to get diners seated and then out of there as quickly as possible, which hindered our ability to savor the food and experience as fully as I would have liked. It's an efficient business model though. Perhaps they could somehow utilize the rest of the voluminous space in the restaurant to allow diners more time to enjoy each plate (the omakase experience was confined to the bar, at least when we went). Overall, I recommend the experience.

I was taken here for my birthday dinner and was blown away by the overall experience! The ambiance was fun, staff were super friendly and attentive, the omakase and drinks were DELICIOUS, and all at a very reasonable price compared to other omakase places.
You really can’t go wrong with anything on their menu. I can’t wait to visit here again.

We had a 10 pm seating for the Bougie experience and what a treat! The cocktails were creative and tasty and the sushi was fresh and absolutely delicious. Shout out to Chef Sean for giving us a solidly expert experience! Can't wait to visit again.

The cocktails are awesome, crafted with care and perfectly complementing the incredible sushi. The food is beyond delicious, every bite is a burst of flavor. The music and overall vibe are on point, creating a lively and enjoyable atmosphere.

I came here for dinner to celebrate two of my best girlfriends and we had a wonderful time. Their specialty cocktails are delicious. The view of the Washington monument and the Capitol is spectacular and the sushi was delicious. Highly recommend!!!

This place was phenomenal. Great food and great service! Took my wife here for her birthday and they did not disappoint. We were met with a free shot of sake before our meal. All 12 courses were amazing. My wife was also handed a free salmon roll at the end of our experience.
10/10 will go again.

Yes, this was quite the experience! I have never had such rich flavorful sushi without soy sauce all the other sauces and yet it’s some of the best I’ve ever had!! Each piece prepared in front of you in expert fashion. This goes in my top 5 of all DC.

I recently visited Sushi by Bou DC, and my experience was truly elevated by the outstanding bartender, Kris, who served us. From the moment we sat down, Kris’s warm and welcoming demeanor set the tone for the evening. Even though we didn’t have any sushi this time, Kris’s extensive knowledge of the drink menu was impressive, and she expertly guided us through an array of exquisite cocktails.
Each drink was crafted with meticulous attention to detail, showcasing a perfect balance of flavors that left us in awe. Kris’s creativity and passion for mixology were evident in every sip, making the entire experience feel bespoke and tailored to our tastes.
What truly set Kris apart was her genuine enthusiasm and engaging personality. She took the time to share interesting stories behind the cocktails and offered insightful recommendations that enhanced our overall dining experience. Kris’s ability to connect with guests and create a welcoming atmosphere was unparalleled.
In addition to the fantastic drinks, her professionalism and efficiency ensured that our glasses were never empty, and we always felt well taken care of. Her presence added a unique charm to the evening, making it an unforgettable visit.
Because of Kris, we will definitely be back to try the sushi. If you find yourself at Sushi by Bou DC, do yourself a favor and sit at the bar or outside of the rooftop. She will undoubtedly make your experience one of a kind. Highly recommended!

The drink menu is impressive, featuring a wide range of cocktails, and spirits. I tried a mix of their signature cocktails and all were a delightful mix of flavors, perfectly balanced and refreshing. Kris (bartender) is skilled and attentive, ensuring each drink is crafted to perfection!!! Can’t wait to come back!

A very solid 4-stars. The omakase experience is rushed with little omakase experience. I would go here again on the primis that we get what we pay for. It's a fantastic price for the reservation.
It's loud, so other than not needing to make another decision after a day of work... the refinement one expects of an omakase was not there. The fish was fresh, the rice was ok, the technique suffered from the pace of the limited service window.
But - after we finished our chef's choice, we were able to enjoy the balcony and sip a cocktail. That part was fantastic.

This is easily one of the coolest dining experiences I’ve ever had. Amazing atmosphere, stellar music, pricey but tasty drinks. Chef Sean was wonderful and watching him make the sushi in front of us was awesome. He was great at explaining what certain ingredients were and generally just chatted with everyone while working. I got to try various types of fish I never had before and there was only one piece that I really wasn’t into (salmon roe). My boyfriend had never really tried sushi before but he loved watching the process and liked the albacore so much we ended up getting hand rolls after the service as well. I’m definitely going to keep this restaurant in mind in the future.

This was such a fun experience! My fiance took me here for dinner the night he proposed🥲 we love sushi and it was the perfect date!
The service was top notch and it was such a fun atmosphere. We got the galaxy lemonades and were blown away at how a mocktail could taste so good! The sushi did not disappoint either. Everything was so fresh and they were great at providing details about each piece as they were brought to the table. A great experience!

That was by far the worst experience I have ever had at a sushi restaurant. Do not be fooled by the cute decor and "vibe." My party left very underwhelmed, incredibly disappointed and some of us got sick later in the night. I was so embarrassed that I was the one that made the reservation and told all my friends we were about to have a great dinner. I will never go back to this place and I will make sure everyone knows that this was a total gimmick. Please be warned that you will waste your money and get food poisoning. I want my money back.

My boyfriend and I went for the 5pm slot on July 4th and were the only ones at the Sushi bar until halfway through our dinner. Very intimate sushi bar with 10 seats, the rest of the space is a bar with outdoor seating. We got the Yuzu Honey Bee as a drink to share since we aren't big alcohol drinkers. It was citrusy and not too sweet where we couldn't taste the alcohol.
The 12 courses for $60 cannot be beat. Chef Chen was an absolute delight. The omakase went from lean cuts to fatty cuts as you went on. The toro, scallop and miso cod were my favorites of the night. We added on the salmon holy hotness handroll and it was delicious and a good size for the price. It was fresh in every bite and the perfect amount of spice. We were given complementary Sake to toast to the chefs and in honor of 4th of July. We ended the night with mochi ice cream, it was 4 smaller pieces cut in half to share. Our final bill was around $250 after the omakase, 2 handroll add ons, a drink, dessert and tip.
This was definitely one of my favorite experiences in DC by far on my visit here from NYC and the best part is that it wasn't even planned.
For sure interested in trying out the other locations back home.
Thanks Sushi By Bou ❤️

My friend and I booked the omakase experience online at Bou’s! They have you put your card down online to reserve your spot (don’t worry it doesn’t actually charge you). The restaurant itself was so cute and so Instagram-able. Disco balls and funky decor everywhere! They have a great outdoor rooftop patio and the service was excellent! It is a bit confusing to get to, in the elevator of the hotel it says the restaurant is on the 11th floor but there is no button, you have to press “R” to get to the restaurant. The omakase experience was fun although I went in with 0 expectations. The lighting was dim and it’s a little hard to understand what each course was. I am also someone that doesn’t enjoy raw fish but the way they presented and curated the sushi made the taste quite pleasant. They have lots of specialty cocktails to choose from and even a sake pairing to go with your omakase if you so choose. It was the most affordable omakase in the area! I would definitely recommend Bou’s to anyone who wants to dip their toes in the omakase experience without spending over $100!

If you want a nice place to grab some drinks & omakase in DC, this place is definitely the best bang for your buck. It’s on a hotel rooftop so you get a cool view of the city too. I enjoyed the sake flights that complimented the meal very nicely. Special s/o to Chat for her excellent service! Will be back again.

I want to start off by saying that the sushi itself was incredible and the fish was really fresh.
Now the bad:
I reserved the 1 HOUR, 17-COURSE BOU-GIE OMAKASE EXPERIENCE $125. The regular option was 12 courses for $60. I chose the premium options because it came with a welcome sake drink and a few extra pieces of sushi. Not only did we not get a welcome drink, we received the same 12-course menu that the other patrons did. After the hour we were hustled out of there without any explanation.
Additionally, my girlfriend and I showed up 15 min early to take some pictures on the rooftop and grab a drink before dinner. No one came up to us to offer us a water or a drink, even though drinks were offered to other restaurant patrons. We only got a drink after the second or third “course” after explicitly asking the manager for one. No apologies were given and the service was particularly slow.
The drinks were nothing special, and charging ~$20 for below average drinks was also a letdown given how much we paid for this experience.
I would understand if this was a super busy restaurant with a 100 seats but a 10 seat restaurant with a 1 hour limit such as this should have better service where the customers are not ignored.
We really were looking forward to this experience as we were celebrating our three year anniversary, and were severely let down and felt cheated by the restaurant and the staff.
If you decide to go, I definitely do not recommend getting the higher end menu, and you are better off going to another sushi spot.

We did the omakase and it was great, but be careful if you have allergies - the chef was supposed to sub out the wagyu course for another fish course for me because I don’t eat red meat and switched up the pieces, giving me a beef piece instead. Otherwise a good experience. Great views!

The food was actually worth the price. That’s the worst for us when we go to experience food and it’s not enjoyable or something I easily could have made at home. We loved every course. Sean was very knowledgeable and pleasant. Service stars are lower because we were pressured with ordering drinks from host.

Delicious omakase with an excellent rooftop. The menu gave you a delicious wide variety of sushi to taste and creative combinations! Get the omakase and then enjoy a drink on the rooftop overlooking the Capitol!

The food and chefs were incredible! Chef Sean was really fun to talk to as he was preparing our omakase.
When we came, they were running behind by 10 mins, but that was okay, they had their rooftop open and it wasn't that bad of a wait. It's also worthy to note that they gave everyone a free complimentary shot of sake (this was mixed with some sort of juice) as apologies for the wait.
However, please note that the bar area is kinda small and tight, especially when they shoved another seat to fit one more person - so if you're on the bigger side, you might want to try to sit at the end.
Omakase was great. We got the bouijie course of 17 instead of just 12, but I am not sure it was was worth double the price point. The base omakase was already impressive, one item, the surf-and-turf was consisted of seared wagyu (beef) with uni (sea urchin) on top. For the boujie course, you get more higher quality cuts of fish, even one that is smoked right in front of you, but again, whether this is worth double the amount is not something I am completely sure about.
Something that I do have a complaint about is that they don't seem to do anything for special occasions. The ladies by us were celebrating a birthday and we were celebrating our anniversary. I believe our reservations also asked for this information. Both parties also elected for the boujie course as well. I'm not saying that we should have been entitled to anything, but again for something that literally calls itself "boujie", one would have expected something small, like a dessert, at the end of the meal. Instead we were just rushed out of our seats because they were running behind for the next reservation.
Next, the zero proof drinks were HIGHLY underwhelming for the price, 12$ a drink. I had two, the Easy Peasy and the Galaxy Lemonade. Easy Peasy was just decorative sugar water while the lemonade was also decorative lemonade. I would only recommend getting the lemonade for the looks, the taste was ok.
The alcoholic drinks were fine though. We got the Yuzu Honeybee one and it was good. There were plenty of space to enjoy a drink while waiting for your omakase reservation.
Again, for the food, there was nothing to really complain about in terms of quality, considering this location is in DC. All the pieces were great.
I would recommend going here for the omakase experience - just be aware of your expectations.

The atmosphere is super vibey and cool, it’s on a nice rooftop where you can see most of the big dc landmarks and has such a cool funky disco theme. The sushi was incredibly fresh and so delicious, you can tell how high quality and fresh the fish was just by the texture and flavor.

While the experience overall was enjoyable, I cannot ignore the discomfort my partner and I felt due to the behavior of what I assume was the district trainer of the company.
The evening started off great, with Alejandro, Gabriel, and Chen providing excellent service as hosts. The atmosphere was fun, the sushi was delicious, and the saki paired perfectly with our meal. However, the mood took a sharp turn when the district trainer began to openly belittle Alejandro in front of both the team and guests. It was evident that every move he made was being scrutinized and reprimanded without any consideration for his feelings or dignity.
The tension in the air became palpable, and it reached a point where we felt compelled to intervene and express our support for Alejandro. It was disheartening to witness such unprofessional behavior from someone in a leadership position, and it greatly impacted our overall experience.
As an industry professional, I understand the significance of new store openings and the pressure that one endures. However, I believe it is crucial to address this issue with urgency. The district trainer's lack of empathy, disregard for basic human decency, and overall unprofessionalism were jarring and unacceptable.
Best of luck to you all on your new journey in DC.

If you are debating booking a reservation at Sushi by Bou, do it! The vibes in here are immaculate, the drinks are delicious, and after the experience you can hang out on the beautiful roof deck overlooking the Capitol. The omikase was some of the most delicious sushi I have ever had- each bite was immaculate! Truly could not recommend more!

I’m a big fan of the quick omakase concept so I am so happy Sushi by Bou has opened a location here in DC. The service and quality of food here is just as good as the NYC locations.
I went during the soft opening and tried the bougie experience for $125 pp. It includes 17 courses and it’s plenty of food! the theme of the restaurant is disco and it’s a fun atmosphere. The service here is great and I like being up close at the bar to watch the chef prep the food.
The only weakness is their drinks—we thought they weren’t too spectacular but maybe it’ll improve as time goes on. Would definitely come again in the future.

Food was 11/10 - best omakase ever. The music playlist was incredible couldn’t stop dancing while eating. Cocktails were perfect, the bartender made custom drinks for us all. To top it off, Alejandro the manager was amazing, and treated us to a round of 30th birthday shots. We will be back, can’t wait to tell all my friends to visit!
