A Japanese Inspired Sushi restaurant, and a High Energy Nightclub in the heart of Washington DC with an enclosed patio in the back.
I think it’s key to know what you’re looking for when coming Tokyo Pearl. Good happy hour prices and ambiance are all this good for. I wouldn’t come back here for any food. I got the Karaage “fried” chicken that looked and tasted like it was frozen food bought from Costco (see picture). Spicy salmon was indifferent. Side note I heard the bar is fun at night but don’t know from experience.

I’m sorry but how is this teriyaki chicken and fried rice? This is plain long grain rice and some popcorn chicken that has been coated in what tastes like soy sauce (really salty!) Even something as simple as the spicy tuna roll was disappointing. Definitely don’t recommend.

We went for Happy Hour on Black Friday. It was fairly empty..around 530pm. We sat in the back dining area and it was cute. The back does have heaters but if it's windy and cold, you will keep your coat on.
We specifically wanted the Espresso Martinis since its hard to find on Happy Hour in the city. The price is $9 and they are delish! They even put pics in the foam..too adorable! I love the hanging chairs. The servers were attentive. Always making sure we were ok, if we needed anything, and taking finished plates out our way. Food was quick! Shrimp tempura was tasty. Edamame was good. Everything was going well, we were cool but a bit nippy but the experience was so good we got over it. Ince we were ready, we asked for the check, server gave it cool no worries. Were still Happy as can be.. All of a sudden, my friend screams and I see "Ratatouille" scurring across the floor under tables.. pass our feet. I jumped up bc why why whhhyyyy are you in here. One of the food runners asks are we ok and what happened and we tell him we just saw and felt a rat across our feet. I show him the direction it went..u der the tables across from us. The main server comes and says oh we didn't see it. Ummm sir I'm sure YOU didn't but yall have vermon in your establishment. We get up grab the check and follow him to the register bc I'm not staying here another minute unnecessary. I paid my bill at the register and left!!!!!! The manager never said a word, not an apology or anything. Really disappointed bc the Happy Hour prices are PERFECT!!!! I WILL ABSOLUTELY NEVER GO BACK! If the restaurant reads this, invest in pest control!

Super cool vibe and fun atmosphere but won’t be back. Food was good, not great. Portions were small for price. But biggest issue was service. Had a reservation but had to wait because the hostess was also a server and bartender. Come to find out, there were only 3 servers for the entire place and they were also simultaneously the bar tenders, so they were literally running back and forth. I was actually kind of stressed for them. We had to leave our table and go to the bar to ask for the check after waiting about 20 mins just to ask for the check. FYI they also add a 20% gratuity for all checks. Biggest issue, they need more servers.

Happy Hour Destination thanks to the Bartender Genesis! Y’all make sure to tip her well!
the seven dollar happy hour but…
Let me starts with something I will never be able to forget! Their $9 frozen drinks my PERSONAL favorite Spicy and Passionate (Milagro Tequila, Mezcal , passion fruit with jalapeños to complement the drink to its perfection. When you read “the name says it all” BELIEVE cause I was like say less! Ok back to the actual menu and some of the best things listed.
$7 cocktails
Huge variety of classic cocktails and other specialty drinks I didn’t get to try because I was on a frozen kick this day.
$24 Tokyo Punch Bowl
This drink I had to ask about but counts get cause I was rolling solo but I here is a hoot.
The $7 happy hour doesn’t only extend to drinks but also food. Got to try the momo chicken (highly recommended by (Genesis)
and great classics like spicy salmon and California rolls.
The staff is great, the indoor space becomes a a night club on the weekends serving the best salsa, merengue and bachata.

We were about to take some food to go and the company said they still have to take tip. From my time within the industry and as a restaurant owner. I don’t FORCE a % from my clients , it’s not right. The client works hard and if they decide to dine in and experience the atmosphere. I would appreciate them take joy of what the owners has done. If the client will take it to go, why change them tip?
Jasmine was very understanding, but her hands were tied :(

Tokyo Pearl is a vibe. Outdoor & indoor seating, both are decorated and felt cozy. I loved my unique seat, it hung, and is so soft. It was fun swinging in it, too! It was a busy evening (happy hour times 4-7pm), so wait time was a reasonable 10-15ish minutes. But, the food was worth it! The dumplings came hot and the sauce was fire. Same with the sushi, I enjoyed every bite. The servers were putting in their best effort and you could feel how much they care about your food experience. Mizael and Richard were lovely hosts, they served me with kindness. You could tell how much work they were dealing with but they still maintained a great attitude. I felt comfortable with them. I also enjoyed that you could visibly see the chefs cooking if you walk in fully, they also had great attitudes and make you feel welcome. Overall, I enjoyed my time there, I went alone and it felt like great self-care. 10/10 would recommend.

Came in for one drink and we were surprised it was empty until we got our bill! We ordered two drinks - one captain and coke and one Tito’s and cranberry and our bill was almost 40 dollars! We have been to 4 places within a half mile of this tonight and ordered the exact same thing and not paid over 22 once! Do NOT GO HERE! They have lost their mind charging the prices they do which is why they are empty.

I went to Tokyo pearl on a Friday night where the drinks were free for the lady’s until a certain time. I opened a tab to buy drinks for my friends and gave them my card to hold. I went back for 2nd round of drinks and they lost my card, they were unable to find my card and stated there was no charge under my name. I had only one drink and they charged me for it . So , how is it they can’t find my card or transaction. Seems kind of sus. 🤔. I won’t be coming back here. Be careful the ladies at the bar will scam you.

If I could leave 0 stars I would. To start off the cover fee depends on what they feel like charging you. They do not have a set cover fee, I went with a group and every single person was charged a different cover fee ranging from $10-$50 which is insane. This was the worst night of my life here. They hire ignorant incompetent security guards who have big egos and are insecure about themselves. As a person of LGBTQ I was treated unfairly and horribly by the security officers, a bystander had to step in and another security officer because the security was threatening to “break me” simply because I asked if that was the line for the bathroom. I would never in my life step foot in here and will be glad the day they close.

This place is really nice when you sit outside. Happy hour is what attracted us there. However, do not go there if you're really hungry. The portions are really small and extremely limited. Service is normally pretty ok. It's a hit or miss base on who your server is. In general It's OK, nothing extraordinary.

Every item on the menu was worth trying, and I was impressed with the quality and flavor of each dish. We worked with Dennis, who provided excellent service and made our visit even more enjoyable. His recommendations were spot on, and he ensured that we had everything we needed. Tokyo Pearl is a must-visit for anyone looking for great food and a vibrant atmosphere. Highly recommend!

Friday nights are busy. We had dinner reservations made, but arrived 10mins late. Not sure it would have mattered since the people seated were taking their time. Seats were open at the bar and enjoyed happy hour there. The Manager was awesome and very accommodating. Drinks were made quickly and delicious; recommend the yuzu margaritas and Tokyo punch 👍. We ordered the dumplings, which were very good. Street parking was available. We left before the night club opened.

The first time I ate here, I ate dinner back in April. The outdoor seating is really cool and a unique atmosphere, and we sat on these comfy, floating chairs. We ordered some wine and sushi, and as someone who doesn’t like Sushi, the crab meat one was amazing. If you want a cool first date spot for someone who likes sushi and latin music, this is the spot. I’ve only been to the club here so seeing the restaurant was a different but welcome experience.
I’ve been to the club part many times before, I think this is what Tokyo is most known for. The DJs always play good latin music, and DJ Saal is my personal favorite, he has good mixes but is also a funny MC. Local music artists frequent this spot a lot, so maybe you’ll catch some rising stars on a weekend.
Two different vibes in the club and restaurant but they’re both great.

The servers took hours to come to our table just to get my order totally wrong and be very rude about it. The food was not very good with multiple dishes going unfinished. We considered dining and dashing because the servers would not come to give us the check. There is 22% automatic gratuity which allows the servers to go get a snack instead of serve their tables.

- Outdoor area is nice, basic Instagram vibe.
- I got the dirty tater tots (just plain tots with paprika, green onions, and mayo drizzled on top) we’re not cooked all the way, still kind of uncooked/cold in the middle.
- Tuna and salmon Sushi were good but they def skimped on the salmon
- service was horrible, waitress didn’t check on us for like half an hour so we all just walked to the bar to get our bill. 22% gratuity is included in tab so we figure that’s why they aren’t attentive.
Likely won’t come again- can get happy hour somewhere else.

Super cute place (dark neon light inside, floral patio outside)! And good happy hour deals ($7/certain drinks, apps, basic rolls). But the portion for the amount/quality of regular food they give is definitely lacking... like their regular rolls are just 6 pieces but $11.50 for eel avo? for a special dragon roll, $17.50? Maybe this is just DC pricing that I'm not used to yet tbf. Servers also seemed very nice but spread thin

I recently dined at Tokyo Pearl Restaurant and had an absolutely wonderful experience. The ambiance was inviting, and the staff were exceptionally friendly and attentive.
I decided to try the Double Pearl, which was a true highlight of the evening. The presentation was great and the flavors were exquisite. Cooked, tender, and juicy, with a rich, flavorful teriyaki sauce that had just the right balance of sweet and savory. It was an absolute delight to my taste buds. I highly recommend. Will be returning.

Had the opportunity to visit for Happy Hour ($7 food / drink). Service was quick and friendly, unfortunately the food was mid and not memorable except the lychee martini! One thing to note, there was 22% gratuity automatically added to our bill (we were a party of 2).
Drinks we ordered,
- Yuzu Margarita
- Peach Lychee vodka
- Lychee Martini ($9)
Food we ordered,
- Chicken dumplings, these were good but 2 for $7, I'll pass!
- Momo chicken, was crispy on the outside and moist on the inside, was indifferent about it!
- Japanese dirty tots, lightly seasoned tots with kewpie mayo sprinkled on top - just OK.
- (2) bao buns (beef & pulled pork), on Tuesdays baos are 2 for $9. The beef was good, but the pulled pork was salty.

There was a security guard that was working last night. He was very unprofessional and rude. He was man handling ladies and stealing extra money from them even though they already paid to get in. He was pocketing cash and told them he was the manager when they asked to speak to the manager. These types of people should never work with businesses . He was a huge man. Putting his hands on ladies, this should be taken very seriously. I highly doubt the manager will be a security guard outside. Be CAREFUL

basic sushi. i was there alone at empty bar and the guy had his back to me for a solid 5 minutes doing something on the computer. i almost left but i was hungry. the bill came and it wasn’t itemized at all but it didn’t add up. i finally got his attention and asked about the total and he informed me that it included a 20% gratuity. no indication of that on the bill, but there was a place to add a tip. very sneaky. also saw a giant rat outside, although it was clean inside and may be unrelated. saw 2 cars with smashed windows on the street and more broken glass. not a place I would bring a date.

Well what can I say other than so disrespectful.
Let me start by saying I’m retired from the restaurant business. We were seated myself and my daughter and 4 girlfriends. My daughter forgot her credit card. While we went to the car they moved the rest of the party to a table for 4 so they could accommodate a part of 12. I found this after talking to the manager. While I wanted to leave my daughter and friends were embarrassed and stayed I did leave I was in town for one night I had an Air bb I haven’t seen her in 3 months. I hope the extra couple of covers were worth it. I wouldn’t wish this on anyone. I picked them up later but sorry nothing good to say except I hope this was a one off.

I feel like the security here are really rude. I was surprised when I came in for the nightclub and had my guestlist code and name ready which is free before 11:30pm, to the bouncer in front. We all showed our IDs to one guy, then the guy who took the payments didn't understand we were already on the guestlist so he said to get our 8 people first. We kept repeating that we had our group and counted out our people for him, and had to show our IDs again. As a girl, I held my other friends hand to not lose her going inside but the guys in our group just filed in behind.
Somehow, they stopped our group at 6 people and let two other people who PAID to get in instead. The other two guys were told there was nothing they could do even though we counted and pointed at them and also our friend stayed behind to say they were with us. They knew everyone in our group which proved we were in the same party, and I even had a guestlist group put down for 9 people, so at least one guy should have been let in without telling him he had to pay. Our friend ended up paying for both of them which was really surprising because this was a really simple mistake on their part that they refused to want to listen to us explain. It wasn't something that is "out of their hands" to deal with. I've never really had this kind of experience before and met people this purposeful to just be mean for no reason, maybe because it wasn't just only girls like my group normally is.
The bathroom security was also a little rude, also surprising because I was trying to ask where the bathroom was and he kept shrugging at me without answering, and once my friend asked for me where the start of the line was, he finally at least waved to the back.
One note is that their promo post said ladies open bar from 10-11:30 which is where I registered for the guestlist and the reason we came instead of our usual ladies open bar club, but when I asked the bartender she shook her head no. So I'm not sure if this was incorrect info or they felt like it was too close to the end of open bar hours.

Great atmosphere and lovely decorations. See their “sushi garden” in the back of the restaurant! There is some lovely seating in egg chairs for duos and some decorated tables for 3-4 people. All highlighted with seasonal decorations and lights. I came during Halloween season so there were colored spiderwebs on everything. The atmosphere was amazing.
The food… not so great. It was edible at least, but portions were small with high prices and the quality was terrible. I tasted both a raw salmon dish and the chicken teriyaki and both were mediocre. Don’t come here for the food.

The ambience is the only real plus to this place. Food was fine but nowhere near its price point; the bao buns have pasty taste and texture. The service is basically nonexistent and 100% there's an undercurrent of racism to it. Also, we ordered something and were mysteriously given a different, more expensive option (and ik we were INCREDIBLY clear about our option.) They also attempted to give us higher prices for things than what was listed on the menu, without any real/substantive reasons.
Better sushi and drink places literally anywhere in the city!

Came here for me and my friend’s birthday. The ambience was nice, the food was OK but the service was horrible. We chose this place because they could accommodate a group of 16, which was nice but upon receiving the bill, we were first told it could not be split then the server proceeded to split it by the two tables we were seated at. After reviewing the bill several times, we were overcharged for items that were not served to us. We tried to explain this to the server, but he insisted that they were served so we asked to speak with the manager. I spoke with the manager, Yasmin and explained that there were items on the second receipt that no one ordered/received, and she proceeded to tell me that there was nothing she could do because she “checked our tables after food was served” which she did not. She then proceeded to tell me that I needed to “Go back and collect whatever cash and cards to take care of the bill” before referring to us, an entire group of Black people as, “you people”, and would not listen to what my friend and I were saying to her. On top of that when my friend told her, it was rude to speak to us that way she said, and I quote “she can speak however because her husband is a person of color”. I would not recommend going to this establishment unless you are in desperate need of food and Yasmin, the manager, deserves to be fired immediately. Very thankful our birthday was not ruined because of this.

Food was ok, service was terrible. We had to ask for napkins at least 5 times from 2 separate waiters for them to be brought to us. Bugs and debris from the tree were constantly falling on our food/drinks. Upon asking for the check he insisted that all items were on one check and he couldn’t split it. They failed to mention that upon arriving but only mentioned the 20% gratuity. Service was terrible. Do not recommend & is my least favorite sushi spot in DC since I’ve arrived.

I am currently here, ending my dinner with my guest from out of town and we are upset at the mandatory 20% tip. We received very poor service today. One younger gal, Genesis, was very nice and greeted us well. But our server, who is supposedly the manager tonight, never greeted us and kept passing our table without ever bringing water or taking our orders. There was only one other table next to us the whole night. After about ten minutes, I stopped the manager to asked for water. She brought the water and I placed an appetizers order. When I had questions about items I saw on the online specials, she was rude when telling me they didn’t have any. About ten+ minutes passed and she never came back to take our order. Instead, Genesis came over and helped us. She even brought us our appetizers and came back a few minutes later to check on us, not our server/the manager. We had to ask twice for the candles on our table to be lit. Our water cups were empty and we had to ask twice for them to be filled. Our server was as rude and standoffish every time as if we were working for her. We didn’t see our server for a long time and had to ask Genesis for the check. She got our server/the manager. This service is not even worth 15%. I’m so disappointed that my out of country guest had this experience. We hope the tip goes to Genesis, she is wonderful.

Black security guard with curly dreads at the door charges people to get into the door. Sometimes it’s $10 sometimes it’s $20, depending on how he feels that day. The money goes to his personal cashapp & other security guards don’t make people pay which means he’s probably keeping all the money himself.
The music is different every weekend. Some Saturdays they play hip hop and pop music and others they play all Latina. Never know which one you’ll get. It’s always a decent amount of people tho either way.
I got 2 shots of Tito’s and my total was $37…this whole establishment seems fishy and the “bartenders”were in peoples sections taking shots rather than attending to people at the bar…
There are definitely better clubs in dc.

Undisclosed 20% gratuity automatically added to tab AFTER you pay and tip on your own so you’ve tipped twice for mid everything. And I don’t think anyone Japanese or Asian runs this place. The vibe is American imagination appropriation with dark neon club inside and bright artificial sakura outside. The spicy salmon is made with smoked salmon aka lox. The ‘Japanese’ dirty tots were squirted with mayo and topped with Old Bay seasoning. Couldn’t even do bonito flakes or furikake? Geez. Tots were crispy and good but in no way Japanese. Happy hour drinks were fun and sweet. Soft spoken server seemed nice but forgot half the drink and food orders. Food is fine and drinks are fun but it’s American fusion I guess.

It’s a such a rarity to me to write a review but I was so upset yesterday. I ordered dinner grilled salmon, it came out completely uncooked, like row fish. I asked to recooked it, so they brought it back like a leftover, literally alone without sides, on a little side plate, over cooked, tasted horrible, oily eww like they don’t care. No one even stopped by say sorry or something. The waitress asked how is it now, on what I answered that I am not impressed the food at all, on what she did not even react. They added 20 percent’s gratuity.
I will never come back.
Food was bad, service is bad too,
I am surprise why even manager don’t care when ppl send food back to the kitchen??? Why no one even stop by my table and asked ?

The ambience was nice because of the beautiful decor. They have cute chairs on one side for parties of 2, but the tables are low to the ground making it difficult to enjoy the meal without spilling food on yourself. Also, there are plants lining the wall that attract bugs, so I wouldn’t recommend sitting at those tables. We asked to move and were given another table with no issue. The food was great until I spotted a hair in my sushi. I made the waiter aware of the hair, asked that the sushi roll be remade and it was. There was no apology for the hair, nor was the waitress appalled. In fact, she left the sushi roll with the hair on the table and on the same plate with our other sushi. When we requested the check, it came out and I was charged for the roll. I believe it’s proper etiquette to comp anything that has to be remade due to an issue caused by the restaurant. It was only removed from the bill after my friend mentioned that it was an issue of decency and integrity. This same waitress was appalled by this request, but not by the hair in my food. My last issue is that there is an automatic 20% gratuity added for the table, no matter the size of the party.

I usually go here for their night life. Their music is probably the best mix on the whole block. Unfortunately last time I went my guy friend tried getting on the pole (he takes classes), he wasn’t allowed to. the bouncer outside banged on the glass and told him to get off. Love that y’all are more supportive during pride month but I would love to see that energy all year round.

Came on a dead friday night around 10 to an amateur comedy show. Enjoyed some cocktails, but after the show no one was there except for old people on the dance floor. Left after the DJ put on a pre-made youtube playlist of "house music." I won't be back for the club.

Extremely rude and unprofessional security, I was going to the bathroom and they burst through the door, held me by my hands and dragged me out just because I did not know there was a line, and when I was trying to explain and calm them down he was yelling at me and being very unreasonable after I apologized. STILL gave me an attitude. Sad to say this is my first, and DEFINITELY my last time there

We made a reservation for 8:00 but ended up having to wait 45 minutes and ended up giving up and leaving. The entire time we were waiting the staff rudely brushed us off and ignored us when we tried to ask when our table would be ready.

If you want to have fun in DC on the weekends, Tokyo Pearl is the place to go! Trendy vibes inside (love the light show on the roof, SO COOL) and great drinks and djs! During the day they have happy hour specials so be sure to check them out ! :)

The only thing good about eating here were the fun swinging chairs. The food was beyond average and extremely overpriced. They also enforce a 20% tip, so be aware of that. Do not recommend. Will not return.

I’ve been to a lot of sushi restaurants across the globe. This one is unprofessional, the food is subpar, and the only thing that is mildly decent is drink menu.
It’s bad business to put a 20% gratuity charge on the bill for anything less than 6 people. I asked to have it removed because it’s not legally or morally acceptable. It cost my waiter part of his tip to have this on the check.
The food is subpar for a sushi restaurant. The salt for the edamame was haphazardly applied to the edamame and only on some of the top pieces.
The tempura shrimp roll was basic and had a large amount of rice. 6 pieces was a fine size for a happy hour roll.
The Tokyo roll however was $18 and only came with 6 pieces. It advertised white fish, tempura, and a “Tokyo sauce”. When it came out the top of the sushi was covered in pickled red onion and ginger which overpowered the white fish and tempura. Also when I deconstructed the roll to find the white fish there were mini slivers of white fish in the mess of red onion. Overall it just tasted like the red onion and nothing else. The only “Tokyo sauce” I could find was a small drop of mayo on the top.
I’m sad because the person working the desk at the Hyatt Place recommended this place for good sushi and it frankly makes me mad they would recommend such a place to anyone.
At least the lychee martini was decent.
I usually don’t write reviews because I talk with the owner or manager about their restaurant. This one didn’t even meet my expectations to talk with someone who could affect change at the restaurant. My recommendation: switch to a full time bar and stop serving sushi that isn’t good.

This place is so cute. I went on a Sunday night and it was near empty so we got to sit in the handing egg chairs which were comfy and didn't swing much (which was ideal since we were eating). Our host/server was Yasmine was so nice and chatted with us a bit since it wasn't busy. They did not have the frozen drinks since their machine was broken, but she gave us the frozen drink special on Yuzu margaritas instead (pretty tasty w/reasonable liquor content). The prices were good and the food was flavorful. Yasmine told us they have $7 happy hour, so we will be back for that (hopefully when the frozen drinks are back). They do have a 20% gratutity included, but since they informed us when the check came and the service was good I did not mind.

Was visiting from florid and Everything about this place is just magnificent. Came in for dinner with friends great deals , greats drinks and great food. To my surprise they had FRIED ICE CREAM!! Another thing that I didn’t know is that they are also a club so we stayed and party.thanks to poncho for treating us with respect and treating us like we were the guest honor. They had a dancer so we bought the big table that night. The lights the lasers the music especially the bartenders. I’m definitely coming back for my bachelor party

We were here a couple of weeks ago. At that time they were waiting on their liquor license and told us that we could only order off the food menu. After 30 minutes of waiting, the waitress snapped at us when he asked about our food. She was completely out of line and unprofessional. We promptly stood up and left the place. This was probably our worst dining experience in DC.

Beautiful sentimental place for couples, small food portions.

Skip it. Sushi is fine, but service is abysmal. And they know it too, that’s why they add auto gratuity without letting you know (not listed on menus as required). Also their liquor license is in limbo, but they don’t tell you they can’t serve alcohol until you already get there.
