After a long flight, I decided to take my mom out for a special treat, and this revolving sushi restaurant exceeded all our expectations! The atmosphere was inviting and perfect for spending quality time with family. The sushi was incredibly fresh, and the variety of options was impressive—something for everyone. My mom absolutely loved it, and it was heartwarming to see her enjoy each dish as it passed by.
The quality of the ingredients truly stood out, and the staff was attentive, ensuring everything was seamless. The experience felt unique, fun, and authentic, making it more than just a meal—it was a memorable outing. I couldn’t have chosen a better place for this mother-daughter date. Highly recommend for anyone looking for excellent sushi and a delightful experience!

Very cool for the experience, and the atmosphere, but not for the food. It tastes fine, but the sizes of the fish bites are under the question (pic.3). I’d love to add after a couple of hours of eating that I don’t feel well. We doubted the quality of the food after having a bite and decided to stop ordering and eating, and I’m happy we did .

Not bad! I was totally new to this "revolving sushi" concept and found it fun and easy. The sushi revolves on a conveyor belt in little pairs and contained in plates that you take if you want it, skip if you don't, and when you're done with a plate, you slide it into the slot in front of you.
I stuck with nigiri, one hand-rolled salmon with skin, and one plate of sashimi.
The nigiri was not bad. It's not the best sushi I've ever experienced, but it was good and $3.80 for every 2 pieces. I enjoyed salmon toro, sockeye salmon, BBQ eel, albacore, yellowtail, and more. They were all very satisfying. The hand-rolled salmon was also as decent as expected but delicious, and they have many different variations available.
The salmon sashimi I ordered was not very satisfying unfortunately. It arrived on the upper-level conveyor belt (where your requested orders appear) in a box filled with ice. The 3 pieces of sashimi were laid atop the ice and were somewhat chewy... I've definitely had better sashimi elsewhere. For 3 pieces, it was $4.55.
Requested orders are made through the touchscreen kiosk in front of your table (pictured). It's fairly easy to use, though the screen can be a bit visually overwhelming for some unaccustomed to using touch-screen ordering, given the sub-menus and wide varieties of sushi available.
I also ordered a small bottle of house hot sake ($10.40). It was satisfying and plenty for 2 people.
Overall, my bill--after fully indulging in curiosity and throwing price to the wind--came out to $56.69, as of Jan 1st 2025. The sushi is decent and cheap, the revolving sushi concept is fascinating and fun, and the general experience is as quick as you make it. I would definitely come back to eat here if I wanted a quick meal.
Also, for single diners, I was served pretty quickly: after walking in, I was immediately led to a small bar-like seating area by the wall in the back that felt more private, which I actually enjoyed. There might be other solo diners next to you, but people weren't invasive of my experience at all. Booths are available for groups.

Lastly, I can confirm there are 2 gender neutral bathrooms. I try to mark this for my non-binary/transgender foodies looking for places with accommodating restrooms. As a transwoman myself, the public bathroom issue can be nerve-wracking when in an unsure environment, and gender neutral bathrooms severely help alleviate fears of bigotry when one has to do their business. "Kura Sushi" has two neutral 🚻's. ✌️
Verdict? 4/5 stars for being "not bad", "pretty good", and "I'd go again!"

A must go if you love sushi! The quality is actually really good. My favorite thing that keeps being me coming back is the "hand roll" and the sweet bean paste fish dessert! So bomb! It's reasonably priced. A robot also brings your drink to you! I definitely feel like I'm in Japan every time I come here. The only negative is it's very small (both locations DC & Tyson's) so there can be long wait times however I prefer the Tyson's location, the service is better there. At this location they have a bunch of teens / young adults that acted like they hated being there and hated their job. Other than that, everything else is a 10/10 an experience highly recommended.

Obviously revolving sushi bar is going to be an awesome experience. But they placed us at the end when clearly we were there before. A lot of people at the end of the conveyor. I love this place!! 1st time here, and I had a blast watching everything. Sushi comes around, and you can pick and choose what you want. After you eat, you slide your plate into a slit at your table. They add up the amount of plates you eat and tally from there. If you order from the digital menu, it comes flying in on a separate level. There is also a little robot that delivers your drinks. The food is really good too, with lots of different kinds of sushi to choose from. It's not a big place, so it was a little busy when I got there. I checked in, but you have to wait outside. They will text you when ready. Will bring you to your table and explain it all to you. The staff are very polite and helpful, but after your sit down, you won't need them, though.

This place is like going into the future. Sushi on boats and prizes showing up after you put your plates into a magical slot. Very fun. Totally automated and a cool experience.

My family loved the novelty of the rotating sushi and robot. We noticed that where you are seated makes a difference; the table ahead of us snagged everything. Thankfully, we were able to order the items that we wanted and were entertained watching them shoot down the conveyor belt to the table. That being said, the novelty can also be quite pricey because it entices you to also try new things. Our bill for a party of four was $170; at least $35 was food that was wasted.
The two Udon bowls we ordered were inedible. It would have been nice to have the wasabi delivered sooner; we had already devoured several plates before the waiter brought it to our table.
Overall, it was a fun experience. We will return when in the area and recommend it to others.

Seated quickly. Conveyer belt sushi, but also some hot and to order items. Drinks come out with a little robot and there is an interactive element whenever you turn in a plate that earns toward a little toy. Very cute, food was tasty. Got us rejuvenated before we headed out of the city.

I’m Japanese, and food here is unexpectedly good considering it’s overseas. Rolled sushi is interesting and tasty, and nigiri is pretty authentic and similar to ones in Japan. Those looked fresh and good quality too ( I didn’t try that much though)
I personally loved rolled sushi, which has mayonnaise in it, because I can’t get the same sushi in Japan😂 it was such a interesting experience to me. I’d love to come here again.

The sushi is very good and not over priced. My recommendation is to order from the tablet whenever possible as the sushi delivered straight to your table from the quick serve conveyor belt tends to be fresher than the one from the revolving conveyor system. They pretty much eliminated the need for having a waiter which I like since I don't have to worry about dealing with bad service. I think Kura sushi will someday make sushi mainstream here in the US.

Food was better than average revolving sushi, but I will not return.

Conveyor belt sushi with a variety of hot and cold foods. Service: Prompt and recieved our drinks from the robot whiskered server. Hot food was hot and crispy coming out. Hot foods were $5-10 depending on dish. Sushi was mediocre, fishy tasting. Tried the uni- a little bitter, not sweet. Small sushi dishes are $3.80 and have one or two pieces. Miso soup is hot and concentrated. With many dishes, can add up. Once a specific # of dishes are disposed of into the collection slot, animation plays on the ordering ipad. Overall: Novelty of using the conveyor belt is fun, but can be pricey.

We went party of four for lunch. Our first time with this concept. The host was very hard to understand. We figured it out. The sushi was good. Skip the veg tempora off the menu and desert other than ice cream. The Kobe American beef was not special and ordered as a separate menu item was identical to the conveyor option both served cold. I would go again and keep better track of plate count a bit pricey.

We’ve been to several Kura restaurants in different states and even in Japan and I actually think this one has the best tasting food. Everything we had was fresh. They opened right at 11am on Saturday. The sushi was good, the fried scallops and softshell crab tempura was good. The ice cream was good too. Service was attentive and friendly. We ate so much!

What a special experience.
If you're new, ask the host/server to show you the process. They have a sample plate/lid so you can try the process.
Drinks - they offer hot water as part of the menu and deliver via robot. Very cute, albeit noisy.
Food - delicious and fresh. My son and I love sushi but have different preferences. He prefers rolls with sauces and crunch. I prefer sashimi. We often try to go to sushi restaurants with a big group to ensure we have variety instead of getting full on a couple of rolls. This experience is like going to sushi with a big group. You get to try a few pieces of a roll or sashimi but you split it with the tables next to you. So fun! The fish was good quality and the food was delicious. Upon sitting down, there's no need to order (unless you want something specific) but can begin eating right away.
Environment - this restaurant is small and incredibly busy on a Thursday afternoon. We waited 20m to get in and upon leaving saw long lines. It's noisy and fast paced. The service was good but minimal. The restaurant was clean.
Price point - Reasonable for sushi 🍣 It was less than AYCE but my son is a big eater and I am not. It was $3.80/per plate plus you can order specific items (soup, rolls, apps, deserts).
We loved the experience/food.

"Sushi" is covered in mayonnaise because of its poor quality. I asked for ginger and they brought a large, open container which they just rotate to all the tables. So unhygienic.
I was genuinely worried I'd be sick after this. I get better Sushi at my grocery store.

My fiancé and I are sushi lovers and absolutely love coming to this revolving sushi bar!! Food is always top tier and we always leave extremely satisfied. The wait times for this place can be extremely long so my recommendation is to join the waitlist before you arrive if there is a longer wait or call and make a reservation. They really don’t have a “lobby” to wait in as the building itself is extremely small. Otherwise, it’s great all around!

Perfect place for single diners, I really like the back booth they’ve got. Staff is friendly and accommodating. Food is about what you’d expect from a revolving sushi bar but for some dishes it’s a great deal. Also very easy to get $5 off coupons through the app.

I am shocked by the number of positive reviews here. I love the concept but I thought the sushi was terrible. The miso soup was so salty we couldn’t eat it. We asked for water and it didn’t come until the middle of the meal. I asked for an extra spoon that didn’t come until my kids were finished eating their ice cream. My kids asked if we could get real sushi for dinner tonight because they were so disappointed by the food. Too bad because it was fun to see the sushi go round and the robots serve drinks.

Cramped, gross, super thin sushi slices (that somehow still have pieces of bone mixed in). I get it. This is super budget, worse than grocery store quality sushi. Don't go here for the food.

Fun environment, the appeal is the revolving bar. Dishes come by constantly on a lower track. It's a little fun not knowing what's going to make its way to you. If you have a particular craving you can order specific items on the screen above you seat and it will arrive on a separate belt.

Genuinely a fantastic experience. I am brand new to the DMV area and went here just by happenstance. I didn’t expect to get much as far as service since it’s a conveyor belt place (no diss! simply bc the food comes to you without you necessarily having to order anything), but wow, the service was great! What a fun relaxed atmosphere, it seems like the people who work there really enjoy each other and their jobs. One server even made sure to double check that I’d gotten a prize after I’d been admiring their limited time pikmin-themed prizes which seriously made my day. I really wanted that prize lol. Food was yummy too. What a great time, will def be back!!! Thanks everyone for making my first weekend alone in DC something to remember! :)

The sushi at Kura Sushi Bar is top notch sushi for a surprisingly affordable price. The revolving conveyor belt perpetually advertises each menu item as it passes right by your table. All you have to do to select your food is grab it off said conveyor as desired. At just $3.70 a plate for conveyor items, this is the most affordable sushi place I've ever eaten at. There is also a touch screen tablet that you may use to order specific sushi and kitchen items, expressly delivered on a separate conveyor. As a group of 5 avid sushi foodies, we were able to fill up on 33 plates, and cash out at just over $130, minus the tip for our wonderful waitress of course. Seeing as I could easily spend this much alone at any other high-end sushi bar, I'd have to recommend Kura as the best spot to get sushi with a group or even by yourself.
To speak on the menu, there wasn't a single item that I tried that didn't exceed my high expectations. My favorite nigiri is mackerel, a hard fish to get right, but Kura delivered. The wasabi was grated, not the powdered stuff. I ate a whole two dollops of wasabi, it was that good. The Inari was sweet, tasting kind of like French toast. I definitely recommend the spicy rolls, as they packed a lot of flavor as well as spice.

Been to a Kura in Philly numerous times.
The DC location was not good!
I had some toro that had a weird graying look and an off flavor that I spit out! It was very bad.
There were several tuna items that passed by that looked horrible with grey edges. Same with a minced tuna tarar that looked grey and horrendously bad.compared.tp it's bright red photo and compare to having it in Philly, it was vastly different and not worth risking to try it.
Upon arrival the waiter asked us if we wanted drinks and wasabi and never came back. We had to call him via the service button about 10-15 minutes later to get the waters and wasabi.
While my guests and I did leave full we definitely will be cautious of revisiting this location.

Idkkkkkk been about a yr since Ive been to Kura, and I used to rave about this spot. I went Thursday afternoon before the Mystics Vs Fever game… and I was totally turned off.
Not sure what happened but the quality of the sushi has gone down ALOT. I see a lot more imitation crab, the spicy mayo or whatever white sauce they use is gross asf, and idk what tuna fish the tuna came from. I typically clear about 8 plates, barely got through 3. The person sitting next to me didnt finish her ramen and def left a plate of rolls behind. I assume her sentiment was similar to mine. Definitely not giving what it used to…
Might have to take this spot off of my list.
Probably wont go back.

Was very excited to see a kura sushi in DC!
The place seems to have a wait pretty often so go early or be prepared to wait. The dishes are 3.6 each, which is pretty pricey. I thought it was strange that 2 pieces of niigiri are priced the same as a small bowl of edamame. The place itself doesn't seem the cleanest but it's not super dirty either. The game portion seems to gave been sold out when I visited so I was a little disappointed with that.
The food was quite good though. Definitely comparable to the ones in Japan.

Sushi is subpar. A few nice ingredients, but done poorly. Rice is too sweet. Soy sauce is sweet for some reason. Wasabi is a strange texture. Neat system for getting sushi and paying for your meal.

It's an interesting concept I wanted to try for a long time. It gets expensive quickly because you don't realize how much plate you take. Sushis were not the best, I think they were too plain but there were also special ones. Will definitely try again though

Some of the freshness of the fish is questionable, but overall the food was pretty good. Space is a little crowded and hard to move around in. Servers were very helpful and pretty on top of things. I would recommend ordering from the kiosk for the most part, which is a little disappointing since the whole aesthetic is the revolving sushi aspect of it. You have to request for wasabi also.

The server Kyre (I'm so sorry if I've gotten the wrong name!) was phenomenal!! The food is amazing, I'm pretty sure between the 3 of us we spent over $100 because we just kept trying more and more options. They have so much variety even though it's mostly sushi, I particularly enjoyed the Kitsune Udon ❤️. Also the little robot waiter brings me so much joy. I hope this place is around for a long time to come!

So. Much. Fun!!! The revolving belt broke as we got there so we did not have that experience BUT the food was of very good quality and we ordered plate by plate what we wanted, mixing and matching unlike anywhere else we've been. Also, it was still delivered on a belt. So, still very cool and unique to us! Be warned though, an anime con or somesuch was happening the same night we went so our wait time was about an hour. Check the DC event schedule because this place is surely a hot spot for those type of cons!

Okay so the Pittsburgh location was a 5/5 but this place was 2.5-3. Well priced food, but the fish was noticeably lower grade, I dont know if it was that all the rolls on rotation weren't super fresh or just subpar quality. The rice was really salty on some of them like extra buttery. The location itself was a little cramped and in a old building but I wouldn't say it was rundown by any means its just not as nice as it could have been. The staff isnt involved much at these places because it self service pretty much after you come in but the poor drink robot seemed dirty and struggling at times to deliver to tables. The ginger provided was old and there was no Wasabi provided. All in all I love the Kura revolving experience I had in Pittsburgh but im glad I didnt hype it up and took someone to this location. I dont like leaving bad reviews but I'm just being honest as a disclaimer to anybody that doesn't have a great experience here.

Kura good as usual. One complaint though. They're having a One Piece collab and are selling items from the series. Now this is during Otakon on a Saturday night, so I expect a bunch of weebs to have called dibs on all the cool items.
But if you're sold out of something, update it on your digital menu to reflect that! Kinda annoying to order a cup, only to be serviced a coke in a sad restaurant glass, and was told they were sold out. So had to call the server and get that removed off the check. It wastes time, plus gets your hopes up.

We really like this place. You have to park a few blocks away, the wait is frustrating, and the service is just okay - but we always come back. We tell people it's not the food, but the experience that's fun. The prices are appropriate and we always enjoy ourselves.

Here is the translation of your review into English:
"The rice in the sushi at this restaurant falls apart when you pick it up, and the ingredients are quite ordinary. If you want to eat a lot without caring about the quality, this is a good choice."

Very rude to have a 25-35 minute waitlist and make someone wait outside for a whole hour. And to add insult to injury, you let other people in that arrived long after I did. Never coming back.

Excellent quality of sushi, but a ridiculously long wait time at literally any hour of the day. If you are going to come here, expect to wait at least an hour (if not more). This place has a variety of options that are all delicious, you just need to be prepared to wait for them. Wish it was better staffed, more efficient, and better at managing their crowd.

They have no room inside if you have to wait for a table. The one server definitely need to find another job. She doesn't seem like to want to be there. Not a lot variety. Small size and expensive. No sashimi. You have order it but only 3 selection.

Loved it. People were walking out talking about how good it was and now I see for myself. Roe and urchin were not popping for me but was for others. What an experience.

If you want to test different sushi, there is a best place to try get small plates of different kinds of sushi.
Food was great. Ingredients were fresh and great quality.
They were also had a great options of dessert and alcohol and nonalcoholic drinks.
Service was excellent and waitresses were friendly and welcoming.
Atmosphere was ok. But I loved their system and small robot brought drinks.
Definitely I’m coming back again.

We had a fabulous time here. The quality of the sushi 🍣 was magnificent.. everything tasted fresh. We have a location in Houston but it does not compare due to the customer service that you in D.C. delivered. I actually didn't even get to experience my hometown location because of the service from their host.. However, I did not allow that to discourage us from dining here in D.C.!! It made up for the Houston experience I had days before. Thank you D.C. Kura for the experience ❤️❤️

So cute and a fun experience! Be warned you may spend a little more than you expect because the small dishes just fly by! Hahaha

There are a variety of choices of sushis but limited options of vegetable (only saw cucumber and beans). The rice is dry and most sushis are very salty. Going there is more for the interesting concept of serving sushis on a conveyer belt and calculating the bill automatically by the number of dishes returned.

I've been to revolving sushi places before, but the ordering system and variety here is excellent. Not the worst prices either as long as you don't overdo it.
Would definitely come again the next time I visit DC.

The idea of grabbing various pieces of sushi is a nice concept. But perhaps only for those who come early.
For reference, I’ve been to the kura in Atlanta and had a great experience. But I also went on a Saturday afternoon.
When we (my party of 2) arrived around 8pm, we were placed on a waiting list estimating 15-23 minutes of wait time. Although there were booths open, I assumed they weren’t able to accommodate more people due to maybe the staff. We sat down around 8:30, and the pickings were very slim. I watched the same empty containers come around every 2 minutes, and some of same pieces of sushi as well, which led me to believe that they were no longer making fresh sushi. I believe that would’ve been a nice thing to tell people when you sit them down, because a lot of time was wasted trying to experience grabbing the sushi on the revolving conveyor belt, instead of actually just ordering pieces of sushi.
On top of that, the waiter we had was not friendly. He didn’t speak up or even smile when he brought us our drinks. Which brings me to point out that I raved to my party about the robot and then was disappointed that there wasn’t any to bring the drinks.
In addition, the waitress only told us about last call, which was 5 minutes before they closed, (which was a lie because we ordered a hand roll to the table right before that, and nothing ever showed up.)
It was disappointing also that there weren’t many options without shrimp, as my party had an allergy and when asked about ordering sushi without shrimp, not much help was presented.
So maybe this is a better experience when you go earlier, but if your establishment is open until 9:30pm, the experience shouldn’t really differ from someone who comes at 1pm.

Nice to have a sushi-go-round in America.
Maybe it depends upon the night but the menu selection seemed very limited compared to Kura in Japan. Perhaps it's tailored to an American palette or access to specific fish.
The wait staff seemed undermanned as they were rushing about helping out tables. Perhaps this came about from the inflation of wages.
If you like sushi this fast-food sushi is a cheaper way to ease into it. Eating 10 plates plus drinks will average around $50. 10-15 plates will stuff an average adult or teenager.

Very good food for low prices. Even watermelon was very sweet. Only draw back is the long wait to get tables. Be prepared to wait at least 40 minutes. Metro accessible. Order a certain # of plates for a complimentary toy.

Lovely, bustling, conveyor belt rotator sushi spot. Descent sushi, fun places, really enjoyed the conveyor belt more than i thought i would. I appreciated the robot drink service. Fun for the whole family. Got busy quickly/ arrive early or be ready to wait.

This is the fourth Kura location I have been to, including one in Tokyo. This particular DC location was not that great compared to the others. It appears they are going through a renovation of sorts. Some of the dishes were less “abundant” than at other locations or had waaaay too much sauce.
Otherwise, pretty standard for Kura and the food and quality was what I had expected. Staff was nice but a little slow.

I have very mized reviews. This place has outstanding food and is a very wonderful experience, but I have had times where other people showed up after, used the kiosk, waited with us, and were let in before. We complained and saw they werent at the bar, and they definitely didnt have a reservation. It happened 4 times in a row (all parties of 2) and we waited almost an hour (25 minute listed wait)... considering the 2 of us spent over $100 since it was our anniversary its not like we were skimpy... but we did almost leave before being seated because we had to each complain before they considered us for a table...

Kura is such a fun experience! The quality of the food is consistently good and there is a standard variety of vegetarian options. I highly recommend the Inari parcels and the veggie hand rolls. The desserts are surprisingly delicious too, especially the sesame balls. I love the rotating prize collections. You earn a free prize for every 15 plates, or you can purchase extra prizes.

We loved it! Revolving conveyor belt with sushi, $3.65 a plate. Take what you want as the dishes go by your table! Small plates. You can also order regular dishes from the menu like ramen and rice dishes. Alcohol is also available.
