Sushi Reviews
Sushi Experience №1

This place has been on my radar to try for a while and we finally decided to check it out. First off, the sushi here is incredible. Super fresh and colorful with amazing presentations. We tried the all-you-can-eat deal and some options off the regular menu too. For AYCE sushi, this was the best I've had in the area. AYCE isn't limited to sushi and there's a bunch of dishes you can try as well. For us, service was great. We went on a slow day for lunch and the entire experience was fantastic. I see there's some negative reviews about service, but that wasn't the case for us.

Here's what we had:

Crispy Calamari: 5/5
Hot, perfectly crispy, flavorful, large portion. Would definitely order again.

Crab Rangoon: 4/5
Creamy and indulgent with the perfect crunch. For my taste, they were a bit on the sweet side but I'm sure others would love that.

Shrimp & Vegetable Tempura: 5/5
Light, crispy batter with fresh ingredients. Cool presentation.

Tuna Tartare Tower: 10/5 (yes, it's that good)
This was hands-down the highlight of the night. Layers of fresh tuna, creamy avocado, and three types of tobiko. It's a visual masterpiece and a flavor bomb in every bite.

Godzilla Roll, Norwegian Salmon Sashimi, & Yellowtail Jalapeño Sashimi: 5/5
Fresh, vibrant, spicy, and expertly prepared. The yellowtail had just the right kick of heat from the jalapeño, and the Godzilla Roll is simply addictive. The wild-caught salmon from Norway exceeded expectations.

Sweetheart Roll: 5/5
Yes, it's a tuna avocado roll shaped like hearts. Perfect for sharing especially if you're here for a date night.

Hibachi Combo (Maine Lobster Tail, Shrimp, and Scallops): 5/5
Huge Maine lobster tail. The seafood was cooked to perfection. Worth the price!

Banana & Oreo Tempura: 5/5
I enjoyed fried Oreos more than I thought I would!

Pro Tip:
Try the all-you-can-eat menu. It's one of the best deals around for the quality of the sashimi, specialty rolls, and kitchen dishes that you can get.

We'll definitely be going back.

Sushi Experience №2

My First Visit to This Restaurant, not as good as I expected.

Overall Ratings:

Restaurant: 4/5
Service: 2/5
Food: 3/5
Parking: Free Parking

Restaurant:
The restaurant has a pleasant ambiance, with a spacious layout and attractive decor that creates a comfortable dining environment.

Service:
The service was underwhelming and felt comparable to that of a fast-food restaurant. The staff took orders and delivered the food, but there were no standout moments or added attentiveness to enhance the experience.

Food:
We opted for the all-you-can-eat menu and tried a mix of items from the sushi and kitchen offerings.

-Miso Soup: Very good, with a nice depth of flavor.
-Mushroom Soup: It was okay, nothing exceptional.
-Seaweed Salad: Good and refreshing.
-Chicken Katsu: Enjoyable and well-prepared.
-Assorted Sashimi: Unfortunately, the sashimi didn’t taste fresh, below average. The texture lacked the creamy, buttery quality expected from high-quality sashimi.
-Assorted Special Rolls: Disappointing. One roll featured cooked salmon, which is unusual for a sushi restaurant. It completely disrupted the texture and flavor, especially for salmon lovers.

Conclusion:
For the price, I expected better quality and consistency in the food. While some dishes were enjoyable, others fell short, particularly the sushi and sashimi. There are better all-you-can-eat sushi options available, so I don’t think I’d return to this restaurant.

I ordered the tuna sushi sashimi plate, which included a delicious little ginger dressing salad... Was amazing, everything was very fresh and tasty.. I thought it was gonna be 'too much tuna' but I demolished it. The waitress was very friendly too. All around great experience 😁

No.1 Sushi ... I think is truly the number one best sushi restaurant in Wilmington, cery convenient post work out lunch as it's in the same shopping center as planet fitness

Sushi is good. However, the No. 1 spicy Ramen we ordered tasted like flavorless instant Ramen, definitely not worth $21. Also our server is not great. She didn't understand what I was asking and cut me off before I finished my sentence.

The sushi is very good but they are very stingy. They have a board at the front that show their specials and when we asked for one of the specials, they said they weren’t doing the specials that day. We went in for lunch on a Wednesday and wanted the lunch special (2 rolls and soup/salad) and they said they weren’t doing lunch specials that day. It’s false advertising.

Came in and decided to do the all you can eat menu, which was completely worth it!

I ordered a bunch of rolls and sushi pieces. Some of the pieces like Salmon were so fresh and buttery. Special rolls had a nice flavor and texture also.

I got filled up quicker than I thought i would.

Beautiful mural on the wall and the red bean ice cream was a great finish!

I've ordered take out sushi from here a couple times. I've been satisfied every time. Sushi tastes fresh and always looks amazing. The atmosphere is really inviting. Fully stocked bar with televisions to relax and have a drink while you wait for your food. The only complaint I have is that the portions they give you for fried rice and noodles is pretty small so you may want to order multiple if you're ordering for a family. I would definitely recommend this place.

The food is good especially the udon. However, drinking water tastes nasty, I ask to change it but no different. I choose AYCE options. However, staff bring out the food that we didn't order and constantly asking us the dish that suppose for others AYCE table. It is not busy at all at the time. Staffs take forever to grab our order paper.

First time here. Nice atmosphere and service but this was the worst tuna I've had in a long time. I am a very frequent sushi eater. It was really chewy. Almost no rice in my very small portion. At least there was a good amount of fish but it was just really disappointing and did not taste very fresh. I got it to go so I couldn't do anything after the fact.

Nice place, I would come back for a drink or happy hour, but cannot believe the food quality was not better than what I'd get at the grocery store...

I was very happy when Number 1 Sushi opened. The all you can eat option is a great deal and the food is fresh. Unlike other sushi places in the area, this place doesn't try to over sauce the sushi to hide taste problems. The service could be slightly better, but that's my only issue.

My boyfriend and I had the all you can eat menu. The Kitchen menu for cooked food and the sushi bar menu. I ordered 2 sushi rolls; California roll and the Sunshine roll and he ordered a number of hot food items from the Kitchen menu. We both enjoyed our meal. Normally we eat cheaper pub food so this would be a treat once in a while since it is more money than is spent when we go out on a Saturday.

I would say the atmosphere is casual and the food is good. We would recommend.

Food was decent. But they finesse u with this “all you can eat” menu which they basically chop everything in to small portions and try to charge $34 each. Also it taste different like its premade
My bill came out to $90
If I woulda just ordered regular hibachi it woulda been $20ish …we live we learn. I probably won’t go back but everyone should know do NOT get ALL U CAN EAT they also try to charge for u to take what u don’t eat to go

I hate giving bad reviews but this one was earned. Here's the executive summary: The value for the price is just not in-line with their local competition. The owner/operator did speak with us and was quick to inform me that are opinion was not valid. He won't have the opportunity to do that again. I could write an essay on the multitude of issues we came across. Three sushi rolls and one Hibachi dinner with two glasses of water cost over $100 with a 20% tip for the Chinese waitress that made mistakes with our order and had extreme difficulties with the English language. I've included photos to help you in your decision making. There are many other restaurants in the area that serve this type of food that are excellent. You're better off finding another one. My experience was very negative. I hope that you find this review helpful.

When I first moved to the area and shopped at the Brandywine Giant, I happened to see this place briefly before going up US 202 further to Target. I checked it out and was intrigued that this place, that proudly calls itself "No. 1 Sushi" has a AYCE option on its menu. Having just moved I waited till I settled in a bit before finally giving this restaurant a try.
This restaurant is very clean, sleek and has enough thematic elements for a Japanese restaurant. I also very much like the service ware used with one small critique that the sauce dish for the soy sauce is a little small. Before I go on, No. 1 does have a separate menu if you don't want to eat AYCE but my review will focus on the AYCE menu.
First, for drinks, they have a decent selection of soft drinks, beers, wine and sake. If you're not too interested in experience a place for its brews, this should work. The only puzzling choice is that the hot tea they serve is actually barley tea and not green tea/matcha. I am not bothered by it as I very much enjoy barley tea and for the most part the tea was nice and hot. Service was good, but not spectacular. Then again, I was dining around 1 PM so the restaurant was pretty empty when I got there.
Now on to the food. They offer a good selection of items on both their sushi menu and their kitchen items on their AYCE menu. Maybe not the most exotic choices but I was pleased by the selection of nigiri, maki/hand rolls and specialty rolls and kitchen items. I started with a bowl of miso soup and kani salad. The miso soup is on par for most miso soups I had but the kani salad was very interesting and has that nice bit of heat from the spicy mayo in the salad. I then had my usual for maki rolls - spicy tuna roll and a Philadelphia roll. The spicy tuna had lots of the tuna in there but was not the spiciest roll I've had, but it was pretty good. The Philadelphia roll was also very tasty and one of my favorite Philly rolls I've had (not at the top, but very good). With that first round I had two pieces of striped bass, tuna and salmon all of them where pretty good.
Then I tried some of their hibachi steak, which is served on a small side dish. This is likely due to the AYCE nature of the offerings I partook in this afternoon. Doesn't downplay the quality of the steak as it was nice and tender and the sauce was pretty savory and tasty. After that I had my second round of sushi; two pieces of red clam and (if I recall) red snapper plus an Angry Dragon roll. The clam was definitely interesting and the snapper was pretty good, too. The Angry Dragon...is probably one of the best Angry Dragon rolls I've had. Just the right amount of punch and fish and all around tastiness. Oh, did I mention that the fish on the nigiri actually stays on the rice and doesn't fall off when you dip it fish side down? Yes, the fish stays as it should...that's usually a pet peeve of mine regarding nigiri. This is a plus in my book.
Currently, the AYCE dinner on the weekend is $36 and the tea is $2 (the cheapest drink option other than water). Considering how much you would pay otherwise on the normal menu, this is a pretty good deal. I might check out their regular menu sometime but for me sushi is a treat so I might be sticking to that AYCE menu. But if you'd like a good place for sushi in the Brandywine area, I would definitely recommend No. 1 Sushi.

Met a friend there. Place was mostly empty except for what I thought was a private party. It was a bit weird that they seated us with that private party. Right next to them all. But it turns out that it was not a private party. They just seated everyone in booths in a very concentrated area of the restaurant, concentrated with other occupied tables. So it was loud quickly. I like to be away from folks. Some were on their phones and laughing loudly etc. I just wanted to chat and being past my prime, hearing is essential and difficult with a lot of noise.

Anyway…. We got the AYCE choice. And we ate until we were very stuffed. Service was great. Sashimi was good. For the price it was great. AYCE don’t spend much time on presentation so, ya know, there’s that. But I really enjoyed the whole thing. I’ll be back.

The restaurant is really nice inside with plenty of seating and a really nice mural. We ordered cocktails, gyoza, shumai, and 4 sushi rolls. The cocktails were a bit weak and tasteless. I’ve been here several times since they opened. It’s my favorite restaurant in the area. I’m from Washington state and good sushi spots are on every corner. Since I’ve moved to Delaware a few years ago, I haven’t found a great sushi spot in North Wilmington. That changed once this restaurant opened. The sushi is great and the appetizers are great too. The calamari isn’t like other places but it’s amazing. My family always does the sushi buffet and we order a lot. If you haven’t tried to fried oreos, they are awesome and surprising to find at sushi restaurant. It is a bit more expensive doing the sushi buffet but it’s worth it in comparison but sushi tends to be more expensive anyway.

It was my daughter's idea to try this new place. I'm not sushi person, but they had nice alternatives. Some items that were not self explanatory were not descriptive enough and when I asked the waitress to elaborate, I couldn't understand her, but she was very sweet! My daughter, the sushi person, elected the full experience of the "All you could eat Sushi" option and she greatly enjoyed her meal. I also enjoyed my tempura shrimp with noodles. UPDATE (Jan 2024): Apparently they have gotten rid of the tablets, but everything else I said in the original review still stands!

Original: Went here for lunch and it was delicious! My husband and I got the All You Can Eat option which ended up being $80 total (including tip). The place has really great modern-Japanese decor and it wasn’t crowded at all. The staff was very attentive and friendly. The sushi is fresh, and service was great!

This restaurant has All You Can Eat (~$34/person) option and regular a la carte option. Lunch specials are offered Monday-Thursday.

The cool thing about this restaurant are you order on a tablet or can talk to a person. It gives it a very modern feel.

We will be back!

The decor is very fresh and modern, the servers were nice and attended to us quickly, but food was ok. We ordered a few different things to have a variety to try. Sushi was good, but didn’t beat out my other 2 local spots, tempura had a heavy oil taste, hibachi was fine - shrimp was good but veggies weren’t fresh. I wanted to try both noodles and fried rice, when I asked to add noodles they only brought noodles and no rice. They explained that the noodles are $3 to substitute but $5 to add.. the menu isn’t clear about that (see picture for yourself). My favorite hibachi spot gives both + ice cream at no extra cost for the same amount I paid. We didn’t eat anything that blew us away, especially for the price, and likely won’t be back. Glad we tried somewhere new though!

We went on a Saturday for a late lunch around 2-3PM for a party of 2. It wasn’t very busy and we were seated immediately. They have an All You Can Eat (AYCE) menu and they also have non-AYCE as well. We did the AYCE and were given 2 paper menus to fill out for ordering. The prices per person for AYCE are different for weekdays vs. weekends.

The AYCE menu is a little small compared to other places, but the food is good! We ordered a variety of things.

The miso soup was good but I thought it came with too much seaweed. Kani and seaweed salads were fine and a good portion to split amongst 2 people. We ordered takoyaki, which came with 3 takoyaki balls. They were a little harder on the outside than anticipated, but the inside was just as expected! The teriyaki is served with just the meat, whereas the hibachi section is a stir-fried version with onions, broccoli, and carrots. If you want tamago, it’s called Egg Custard under the sushi section.

Service was quick and food was served in a timely manner. We did not get a drink menu, so you’ll have to ask about what drinks they have available. I believe there is a selection of soda and tea. At the end when paying, they come over with an iPad if you’re paying with card. The waitress looked away while I was signing and putting in the tip, so it is a little burdensome and you’re put on the spot.

Overall, a nice place to check out for AYCE. Service was quick, there’s plenty of parking, and food was good! I definitely recommend getting a soup, trying out their beef steak teriyaki, and eating your fill of sushi! If you like sushi with raw fish, you’ll probably enjoy this place. Most, if not all, of their specialty sushi rolls include raw fish.

Parking: There is plenty of parking in the parking lot.

Atmosphere: The interior of this restaurant looks nice. The napkins are good quality and the plates are pretty. The music is not loud so you can actually hold conversations. Plenty of seating. Private restrooms and also clean.

Service: Service is good. We were seated relatively quickly. Being that this is an All You Can Eat (AYCE) restaurant, you are given two forms (per round) which contains all of the available dishes for the AYCE. Waiter/waitress came around to remove empty dishes and refill water. Food came out pretty quickly.

Food: There are two options: AYCE or a la carte. We had the AYCE option. The food was good. Nothing was below standard. One thing that stood out to me was their generous portion sizes (largest portion sizes I have seen based on my experiences at AYCE restaurants) and how the quality of food was maintained along with the quantity. I especially enjoyed the tofu as not many places have this on their AYCE menu. The sushi is of the same quality as any other restaurant. The kani salad and miso soup were good. The only complaint I have is that the presentation of the takoyaki was unappetizing and on the harder side in terms of texture (typically takoyaki is on the softer side). Despite the presentation and texture of the takoyaki, it was still satisfactory in terms of taste.

Cost: It is around the average price for an AYCE sushi restaurant. The AYCE options + 20% tip landed roughly $40-$50 a person.

Verdict: If you want AYCE sushi then this is the place to go.

I recently dined at this sushi haven and was thoroughly impressed. The ambiance was serene, the service impeccable, and the sushi—pure perfection. Each bite was a symphony of flavors, showcasing the freshness of the ingredients. The chef's creativity shone through in every artfully crafted roll. A must-visit for any sushi enthusiast!

First time here and it was awesome! All you can eat sushi and hibachi is a deal at $36 per person. Sushi, appetizers, hibachi dishes and even dessert were all very good. We will be back! Super friendly staff and service.

Your better off going to the all you eat on kirkwood. Better price and better selections! This place was over priced and limited menu.

I came with my family for the AYCE- I eat sushi a lot:
Positives:
1. The rolls(ones with all kinds sauces that you don't even need fish to make it taste good) are pretty good tasting
2. Food is served fast
3. Ambiance/decor is good
4. A few of the appetizers are good - bbq squid, calamari, tempura veggie is good
Negatives:
1. Soy sauce is awful. It's super salty, thick and dark - does not feel like even decent quality, I have never even seen worse quality soy sauce. Same for the wasabi. It makes me question everything about what I ate.
2. Service is bad - Nothing is served to you unless you ask - no refills for the tea, soda, they don't come by unless you wave them down.
3. Fish quality for AYCE is terrible, even if you have very low standard this is very bad. If you came for sashimi - the only tuna is albacore tuna, salmon is ok, there's no higher quality fish- I'd rate most of the fish a grade lower than Wegmans boxed sushi. A couple pieces of fish were not fresh - you can see visibly that the pieces are too soft.
4. They have a 15% off coupon that's valid til January that they don't honor saying it doesn't apply to AYCE.
5. The little things - charging per person for basic tea, not presenting a check, watching you as you tip, extra filler food items included...tells me they aren't in this game for the long haul and makes me question the quality of the food.

All in all for 50 bucks per person(including tip, non-alcoholic beverage) you are better off going to a real sushi restaurant, I won't be coming back. I don't understand people who run a business like this.

This place is incredible, the sushi and its ingredients are fresh, the waiters are friendly and I feel welcomed as I take my first step into the establishment. Not to mention that the sushi is very affordable and about the only good sushi spot in this area. Strongly recommended!

Sushi Experience №125

Pretty bad food overall - we tried the AYCE option, thinking it was a good deal, but the sushi rolls were 90% unseasoned rice/sliced cucumbers/avocado and 10% not-so-fresh fish. The hibachi and red bean ice cream dishes we ordered were similarly underseasoned. The only good dishes we had were the seaweed salad and edamame.

We couldn't finish the sushi rolls we ordered since they were mostly filler ingredients, not fish, and explained to the waitress that we had tried our best. She still bullied us into paying $6 as a fine for not being able to stuff more bad sushi down our throats, and even criticized us for only eating the (very small portions of) fish in the sushi rolls. Never in my life have I been forced to eat food at a restaurant after politely explaining why I didn't like it, and it felt terrible. Not to mention this would never happen in a real sushi restaurant, where hospitality is prioritized. This awful service at the end of our meal tipped my review from a 2 to 1 star rating. I always want to support small businesses but can't imagine returning here when there are so many similar sushi spots nearby.

Pros: the food portions were large, it came out quickly, and the decor is very charming. I only wish the actual taste of the food and service could be decent.

I ordered the lunch special where you can select 3 rolls and it came with soup and salad. I sampled the soup and it wasn't good at all to me. I tried to taste the dressing for the salad and I'm not sure what is was, but I didn't like it either so those were 2 things that I didn't eat and felt it was a waste. As for the sushi, the tempura shrimp and the Philadelphia rolls weren't the best, just ok but the spicy salmon roll wasn't spicy at all and had no flavor to it. I even tried the Wasabi and it wasn't spicy at all. For this to be my 1st time trying NO 1, I will not be returning or recommending. The service for takeout was great and the prices were good but there was absolutely nothing that impressed me or make me want to return

My son wanted to try this place for his birthday lunch. It absolutely did not disappoint. The food was amazing, the service was excellent and on point. The staff was very friendly, even as we were leaving everyone was saying bye including the chef make the sushi. We will definitely be coming back. This is an amazing local business.😁

Definitely was a great experience! I never choose to eat sushi, but the food was well done and delicious. My sister, friend, and I did the All-You-Can-Eat option which was $34/person.

I like how their portions are small so you can a taste of everything! I strongly recommended the shrimp tempera, it was warm and crispy when it came out, along with the chicken katsu. Miso soup was also great.

Friendly and welcoming staff. The service was fast.

Will DEFINITELY come back. We all left with full stomachs and were really satisfied. Thank you!

(BTW Didn’t take pictures of everything we ate, here are some)

Great place. The sushi is fresh and the options are varied. There is an all-you-can-eat option for sushi, and for what you get in quantity you do not lose in quality.

The atmosphere is humble and quiet, the service is polite, attentive, and warm.

Get the all-you-can-eat option. It’s worth it! We will be coming back again… and again… and again.
