HARUKI, AN AUTHENTIC JAPANESE AND IZAKAYA RESTAURANT…
features a cozy atmosphere with a modern Japanese style of authentic cuisine. Offering a casual menu with dishes such as 6 hour Ramen, Japanese curry seasoning, and the Japanese small plates known as 'Izakaya', Haruki provides both a unique menu and a great dining experience.
Haruki aims to warm their customer's hearts with their care for authentic Japanese ingredients, local fresh produce, and simple seasoned meats, accompanied by their carefully selected beer, whiskey, sake, handcrafted cocktails, and wine.
Certainly never going back to this place. The staff seemed very carefree and didn’t seem to pay any attention towards the guests. The food was awful and I am sure they didn’t use good quality ingredients as it tasted very bad. I am sharing a picture here to show proof. The silverware, wooden spoons, ladles were not clean, utensils are clearly worn out due to excessive usage. It was a very bad experience, we didn’t even finish our meals, as the food quality was poor and not hygienic. I asked the lady for forks and she gave us two different looking forks which had so many scratches on it.

Had the pleasure of being served by Chris. They weren’t open for another 20min but he didn’t send me off. Welcome me and sat me. (Thank you for that) I started with the sashimi platter, fresh, delicious and exactly what I’d hoped for. My entree was the tempura fish tacos. Mouth watering, crispy, yummy!! Definitely a winner. Also they have happy hour 4-6pm daily and All day Thursdays.

Great find in Norwalk. Didn’t expect to find a hidden gem like this but I was happy that I did. Ordered the tonkatsu ramen and chicken curry. Though the chicken curry was on the pricier side, I think the flavor makes up for it. The ramen wasn’t as salty as compared to other ramen places. You can taste all the flavor in the broth and the cha su (pork belly) was perfectly tender. It’s a great place for a date night.

Love the food here, and sometimes if you're lucky you may get an appetizer from them on the house! My favorite was a sesame creme brulee (although I haven't come across it recently). The atmosphere inside is very nice as well, there's even a small aquarium.

Came to grab dinner w my parents and had an absolute awful experience. Food was average but the service was absolutely awful. We waited 20 minutes to get our drinks in (hot tea) and when we did, it came out cold and to get another set, it took another 10 minutes. When our food came, turns out she forgot input 2 orders. We figured she was so busy but when I was watching her, it looked like she was spending the majority of her time with these guys at the bar nonstop talking to them. We got our bill (I had to up to the bar and ask btw) and the last straw was, it costed 5 bucks per tea cup, literally small tea cups that you play tea party with, we thought it was a mistake as most Asian restaurants serve tea but the tea pot but nope, she doesn’t make the prices. Absolute rip off would NOT recommend.

Sushi was smelly, ramen made me sick with stomachache. Stay away. The restaurant is also dirty, it’s just too dark to see it.
Please don’t offer to make things right for me as I will never eat at your restaurant again. Just make sure you look at your food safety and quality specially when you are serving saw fish and undercooked food, so other people don’t get sick. The second morning and I’m still feeling sick. Have taken few medicine. This is more of a PSA than anything else. I don’t normally write reviews but I’m concerned about the safety for plotter people.

Take out-I waited a half hour after getting there, after I was told to pick it up in 20 mins. The sushi was tasteless, watery.

I’ve been to Haruki a few times and I can say it’s such a great place. I come back for the ramen but tried the sushi rolls last night as well and it was a 10/10 overall. I want to keep trying things on their menu because they all look so good. Highly recommend.

One of the few authentic Japanese restaurants in the area owned and run by a Japanese person. You can tell by the quality ingredients and very Japanese dishes like Takoyaki and Hiyashi Chuka. The ramen is rich and flavorful. The room is comfortable and is truly a hidden gem, highly recommended.

I had the tonkotsu ramen here and I was surprised at how tender and well-seasoned the meat was. I've been to plenty of other ramen joints where the meat is usually overcooked or plain-tasting but Haruki gets it right.
The broth was flavorful, but still pretty light. You get a decent amount of included toppings too. I'd definitely come back if I'm ever in the area again.

If ever it were appropriate to say "It looks good enough to eat," that expression applies here. The vegan dishes are as aesthetically pleasing as they are delicious and nutritious. Take a look at my photo for proof.
I was surprised by the appearance of the venue: It just looks like a bar in a downtown mall. Also the decibel level of music when I entered was absurd. But as soon as I was seated at a table and remarked about the loudness, my server had it lowered to an acceptable level and I could relax and enjoy the culinary experience to follow.
The service is excellent to excess. No fewer than three very friendly people kept asking me if I needed anything. But of course it was the food most of all that made this place stand out. My main dish was the vegan ramen, which was truly comfort food for the soul. And what a stroke of genius to include a tomato! (See photo.)
The only vegan disappointment was the lack of a dessert. This is a bizarrely common experience in vegan-friendly establishments. A simple piece of fruit, like mango pieces, would have just hit the spot after the salty dishes. I made the suggestion. Let's see if they follow up on it.

My son loved it. We ordered so much food, but ended up eating it all. excellent food! and the guy who waited on us was so proud of his place and he was so kind to us. Bruhhhhhh.... recently landed @ HR&I for a quick lunch while in the area and suffering from a serious slurrrp attack seriously in need of soupy noodz!
Ramen isnt just an obsession to some its an addiction and I fall into both categories.
Me n my company were really looking forward to it but perhaps we made a mistake coming at lunch.
Our waitress/host was not very good at all. N I feel bad since she seemed very nice but no knowledge of the menu, of the style of food, of how to be attentive (never asked us one thing)
. Basically threw the whole experience off right from the start.
Overall the food is executed well although how close to traditional im not exactly sure.... the different ramens arent very descriptive as you get other items in your bowl that aren't listed in print. (Me not being a fan of menma would have omitted it had I known, ruined the whole thing for me)
Was more a fan of the apps then the mains.
The flavors are there and they have some unique offerings, I would suggest coming for dinner. We'll see if we come back in the future n try that service then.

I would probably give this place 3 stars but since the average is 4.7 I need to bring it down. This is nowhere close to a 4.7.
The sushi is awful, the ramen is okay, and the service is not good. I had their wagyu tacos which were just okay, would not recommend. Everything is too pricey for the poor quality. And there is something funky with their bathroom, the little hall that leads to it smells absolutely awful, the bathroom itself is pretty clean. I think there is some cleaning closet there with either wet dirty rags or some dead animal.
Overall this place is too pricey for the poor quality of the food. Especially the sushi, I cannot stress enough how bad it was. The ginger was old , the wasabi not spicy at all, the spicy mayo too liquidy and not spicy.

I recently had the pleasure of dining, and it was truly an exceptional experience. The ramen surpassed all expectations, boasting a freshness that elevated every bite. The flavors were perfectly balanced, creating a harmonious dance on the palate.
The service was equally impressive. Our waitress and the bus girl were attentive and went above and beyond to cater to our needs. Their hospitality added an extra layer of warmth to the dining experience.
Overall, it has set a new standard for ramen in my book. I can't wait to return and savor those delightful flavors again. Highly recommended for both ramen enthusiasts and those seeking a remarkable dining experience.

This place is really special. We went for the ramen, but there is so much more.
We started with Hibachi crudo which was lightly tossed with a citrus-shallot-cilantro dressing. Delightful.
We also had a sushi roll, pork wontons and tempura. All fantastic.
The ramen is the star of the show here. They cook their broth for two days, it is rich & deep. Benjamin, the owner/chef, was on hand to discuss the menu and suggested a side of hot sauce, which is his own recipe. It made the ramen so flavorful.
Overall a delicious experience in a very nice ambience.

What a gem! We stumbled upon this place enroute from NY to Boston and it’s some of the most authentic Japanese foods we’ve had, which I feel is very hard to find in the Northeast. We had the ramen, mini chasiu rice, karaage, salad, and agedashi tofu, and each dish was really great.
We also had the beef curry - the meat was so-so but with good Japanese flavor along with the right pickles and small pieces of vegetable tempura - super authentic!

My friend and I decided to give Haruki a try on a Sunday night. The experience was great. Christopher, our server was friendly, and attentive and gave us plenty of suggestions/recommendations. Super cozy ambiance. The cocktails were well-balanced and complimented the food. We had pork wontons, beef Tappan, and shrimp tempura roll. I requested to try all three 3 chili sauces and the flavors are truly one of a kind. We could not stop eating, lol. We wrapped up our dinner with a Meiji (coffee cocktail) and hazelnut chocolate cake. It was so good I got another one to go. I will definitely be coming back for their cocktails, happy hour, and karaoke nights. I highly recommend Haruki!!

Update - 9/30/23. Removing a star. Was here for a late lunch and both of us got pretty sick a few hours after having ramen and wontons. I'm sad! My husband said something smelled off about the ramen but I thought it was the mushrooms. Not sure what to think!
We love this place. It's solid and never disappoints. Okay actually there was one time we ordered bubble tea and it wasn't good but that's one item vs an unmeasurable amount of good items. One of the best restaurants in Norwalk. The ramen and sushi are both top tier. Try the apps, especially the Wontons and the Kirage. You won't be disappointed!

Cozy atmosphere, creamy milk tea, flavorful appetizers and delicious ramen entrees. We ordered a milk tea, 2 apps, a bao bun and 2 bowls of ramen--we were impressed with the unique flavor of each dish and ultimately loved them all. Given all the food we ordered our check was less than $75 which was a happy surprise. What I liked most about Haruki is that each bowl of ramen comes with variety of ingredients in it, in many other ramen spots you have to add-on what you'd like which can be pricey when all is said and done. The seasoned egg was phenomenal--bursting with flavor, the pork chatsu had a little sweetness to it and was so tender (not chewy) and the broth had a nice rich flavor and was not watered down at all. Unfortunately, we were too full to try any dessert but we will totally be returning. 10/10 would recommend.

Original Review July 2020: What a great place!! Definitely the best ramen we've ever had. We had the Tonkotsu ramen and the broth was so flavorful! We loved their steamed buns, wontons, and chashu tacos too. The service was awesome and we just loved sitting outside in that quad area. We can't wait to come back and try more!

This is an update from five star review I did about a year ago. The sushi and food used to be more authentic, but now it just looks pretty the flavors are lacking like they are buying pre-made. Tastes like every…other…spot. Japanese THEMED restaurant that plays loud bachata music. If you like that this place is for you.

Underrated Japanese food place but don't let the Japanese qualifier scare you off if you have a limited palette. This place has a range of authentic and accessible cuisine from ramen to fried foods and sushi. They also have an excellent tap list including not only beer but several types of wine on tap and sake on tap. Apparently Izakaya in the name of this restaurant means "casual bar" which is exactly how I'd describe this place.

If they do not know how to serve Negitoro Temaki, they should take it off the menu. Mine came with no seaweed, no scallion and no sesame seeds! What I got was just squares of white rice with a very thin layer of some tuna, which was not chopped but smugged over rice. They charge $15 for it.

We had a lovely dinner last night at Haruki. The food, presentation and service were superlative. We started with a variety of small plates but the showstopper was Wagyu beef cooked tableside on heated stone. It was served with marinated green beans, pickled cabbage and rice. Complimenting the beef we chose a mixed vegetable Tempura and delicious chicken karaage served with a peppy aioli and Salmon Futomaki each was fabulous. Service was attentive without hovering. The meal was beautifully presented. For dessert my sweetheart had the milk crepe and I the sweet potato cheesecake. They were both delicious just a lovely end to a perfect meal. If you like the Japanese style of Izakaya, casual, neighborhood pub style non-pretentious eating, you will love Haruki. Street parking was limited but we were fortunate to be able to park right at the entrance to the Waypointe which is home to Haruki some other fine eateries. We will be back for sure.

Being Japanese myself, I’ve been having a bit of a frustrating time finding good sushi in Fairfield County. Haruki seemed slightly more authentic than many other local spots so we gave it a shot. We ordered edamame, pork gyoza, karaage chicken, negitoro temaki, Wagyu nigiri, and the nigiri sushi set.
The edamame had some sort of sauce and garlic all over it, which I found tasty but inconvenient, as edamame is usually eaten by hand. Sometimes less is more, and I would have appreciated no sauce/garlic and just some salt.
Karaage chicken was a highlight! Super tender and also crunchy on the outside.
Pork gyoza were a dud. Lacked flavor and the gyoza wrap was an odd texture.
Negitoro temaki were good however I would hardly call them temaki. Temaki literally means “hand roll” and usually comes in a cone-shaped nori roll. What we got was cubes of rice and negitoro and small pieces of nori that you could eat them with. Again, it was good, but I wouldn’t call it temaki.
Wagyu nigiri was delicious! It was $11 for only two pieces but that’s Wagyu for you.
Nigiri sushi set was yummy, large pieces of fish, good sushi rice. The unagi was a highlight.
Beer on tap wasn’t working which was a bit disappointing. Got the “Momo” cocktail which was surprisingly large, strong, and tasty.
The space was very cute and cozy and wasn’t crowded on a Friday night. Overall a good time and we’ll be back!

Food was OK but nothing amazing. I ordered spicy tonkatsu ramen but it wasn’t spicy at all. SO ordered spicy miso ramen, also not spicy. We also ordered karage chicken but it was more like popcorn chicken and the fried Brie which was interesting.
Service was nice and waitstaff were kind, service was a little slow but it seemed busy.
Extra info: they don’t accept Amex

Looking for something different? We were. This is the place. Authentic Japanese noodle house cuisine. We had the fried brie, and the duck and chicken meatballs for appetizers. Great sauce for both. Then the spicy miso noodle bowl for the main. Definitely spicey - definitely delicious. Ended the meal with their homemade pineapple ice cream and chocolate. Very good. They make handcrafted cocktails which were unique. We had one with a smokey mezcal, and one with whiskey. Highly highly recommend the plum sake as an appetite. Can't remember the name of it, but ask the manager. He recommended it when I asked for port. I would say the only thing that was not perfect was the noise. Either the acoustics of the place were poor or the music too loud; regardless we could barely hear the waiter. This is a great unique place to go.

Ahhh, what can I say!? Haruki just never misses man. It is truly a hidden gem in Norwalk, almost like it was transplanted from somewhere else. The service is always amazing, and they have mastered the formula for great Ramen -- which is no easy feat might I add! I would like to also highlight and recognize the owner/manager...a small, lovely asian young lady who you can see running food, greeting patrons, and working food tickets. We met her one summer evening, and she has been nothing but sensational ever since. Always comes over to greet us, sends over little goodies, and just makes the experience a memorable each time. This kind of customer service and attention to detail is what is missing from some food establishments as of late, and it really does go a long way. Thank you Haruki for always satisfying our Ramen cravings when we are in town visiting family. I highly recommend, and much continued success in the new year!

One big issue. The food was fantastic. The service was pretty good.
BUT, half way drinking down her glass of water, my wife realized her glass was dirty and sticky and was unwashed. I noticed the same on mine. We told the waiter and heard him go to the bar and point to a stack of glasses where he was pulling glasses from and say to the bartender that these glasses are dirty and the bartender pointed him to the clean stack. It appears he accidentally grabbed the dirty glasses and served us them. Absolutely revolting and worrying for disease including Covid. I understand it was an accident but this is unacceptable.
The restaurant was also uncomfortably cold.
The food was good and we want to try it again but not sure we can put this issue behind us.

Excellent ramen place! Both vegetarian options were loaded with flavor and the noodles were on point! Enjoyed the shrimp tempura bao and oysters as an appetizer! Both were excellent. Would definitely come back here if I’m in the area again, it’s on par with some of the best ramen places I’ve been to in the US and Japan, plus the restaurant itself has a very cool vibe, I really liked the bar!

The last few days of summer are among us which means it's almost officially ramen season (not that that's ever stopped me before!) Finally got the chance to check out Haruki Ramen and Izakaya and their food was amazing. This spot is intended to be one of those places where you relax and have a drink with friends along with some yummy small plates (Izakaya is essentially Japanese tapas). We tried a bunch of things but my favorite item from the Izakaya menu was definitely the Agedashi Tofu. This is deep-fried tofu and seasonal mushrooms in soy-dashi broth, topped with smoky bonito flakes. And of course, I had to get a bowl of the Tonkotsu ramen. The chashu was so incredibly tender, it basically falls apart when you eat it!

They have a slippery floor. Some of the employees were even skating on it. My son almost fell and wasn’t able to walk to and from our table without holding our hand. When asked they said it was due to the rain, however, I think that the floor issue should be addressed. Menu did not load even on their wifi. Took about 10-15 mins and I guess I could have asked for a paper menu when going outside to load the menu, but was never approached by staff. Over all, if I wasn’t hungry I probably would have left even before the food came out. The rice was cooked it too much water and was mushy. I’m not sure I would give his place another try. Please address your floors before someone gets hurt.

Visiting from NYC. I eat a lot of great ramen in the city. Haruki would definitely be able to hold it’s own against the best shops down there. Their homemade gyoza is a must try! Thanks for the great meal!

Quinton was my server (and also the General Manager). He made EXCELLENT suggestions for food, and Sake parings, as it was my first time here. The chef personally came to my table twice to ask if I had any questions and to make sure my food was amazing (and it was). I ordered a few appetizers and their own spicy tuna roll. Excellent atmosphere, food and staff. I highly recommend this restaurant.

We wanted to try a place in the area and chose here. So glad we did--it made our night!
In a nutshell: delicious authentic food, beautiful outdoor seating, and a very attentive and passionate staff.
The longer story: The best ramen I've ever had and delicious bubble tea. I got Kombu Broth Maroni with chasu pork instead of tofu. I have a gluten sensativity, and I was delighted to have a gluten free ramen option (the pork is not gluten free by the way). Both our meals were fantastic, and the manager who brought out my matcha bubble tea was a pleasure to talk to and clearly passionate about the craft behind their food. I loved hearing about their commitment to authentic cooking and ingredients, and we both left full, in good spirits, and looking forward to returning.

Great place. Nice atmosphere, good food, good drinks, and friendly staff. Prices aren't crazy high, either, which is a huge plus. Will definitely be coming back.

Nice location. Overall good food and service. Our favorite was the truffled pate. The chicken liver pate was very savory and the chips were very crunchy. We asked for extra chips. The Tokoyaki has good flavor with the sauce and smokey bonito flakes. Wish the inside is less gooey. We were less impressed with the Tempura. Wish the outside layer could be crispier. We liked both types of ramen (spicy Tonkotsu and Yasai) we ordered. The waiters were very friendly and nice. Occasionally checking how we are doing and cleaning the plates in timely manner. The food came a bit slow though. We waited longer than expected for each dish to come, comparing to other restaurants.

I stopped in here for happy hour on a Friday afternoon while visiting the area. We were able to find parking right outside at a meter and walk in. There was plenty of seating at the bar and their happy hour drinks and food were great. The regular priced pork bao was also amazingly reasonable at $4. The ramen broth was rich and delicious and our bartender was very knowledgeable and friendly. I'd definitely recommend a stop in.

Very good informal Japanese restaurant offering good quality drinks and the Japanese version of "tapas". A relaxed atmosphere where on can enjoy a casual drink and as well as the well-prepared food. The flavors are amazingly good. The staff is very friendly.
