Sushi Experience №3

I ordered sashimi and vegetable tempura. I recieved the shrimp tempura, but was charged for the vegetable tempura, so no harm, no foul. I was trying to avoid the panko battered stuff that was probably mass produced and frozen, which is what I guess the shrimp tempura was, as the batter was different from the vegetables.

The sashimi portion was generous, with three thick pieces each, except for the sweet shrimp which was only two pieces. I should have ordered the sweet shrimp as nigiri, then I would have gotten some sushi rice.

The tempura came with a bowl of rice. The rice was unseasoned, and medium grain. Because I didn't order nigiri, I can't comment on their sushi rice, but I hope it was an actual short grain, and not the medium grain served on the side.

Overall, the food was good, but expensive. I spent over $60 for this meal.

They might be finding their bearings, as they recently opened. I'll probably go back sometime next year and see.

Recently, new management took over this establishment and renamed it Fuku Sushi, and we were not disappointed.

My wife and I started with the shrimp siu mai and then ordered the Vegas Roll, which she usually chooses whenever we visit a sushi restaurant. She said it was the best she has ever had.

I got the Chasu Ramen, and the Chasu pork was incredibly tender—litterally melted in my mouth.

The environment was clean and cozy. Keep up the great work, Fuku! We will definitely be returning soon!

I thought I'd pop in for lunch to try out the restaurant under new ownership. Surprisingly I was the only person in there at 11 am. It was really good. The lunch sushi roll special gives you alot for the money. With the soup salad and two sides I have more than enough for dinner. I'll definitely be back.

Got one of their special rolls, nothing special about it. Bland with no flavor. Also ordered tuna tataki. No description other than the name on the website. Was covered in jalapeños and jalapeño juice. Ruined a nice piece of tuna. Notneverything needs to be spicy and should probably tell people if it is. Traveled all over the states and the world, probably the worst sushimimhave everehad.

Took my dad here for his 77th birthday. Food was EXCELLENT. Asked chef Randy to just style us out and we were all blown away. Fish was super fresh and delicious. My 1 year old even LOVED it. He kept going after the shrimp tempura and the caterpillar roll. I was very impressed with the quality of fish and service we received. It's easily the best sushi in Colorado that I've had. It's really fantastic. Every piece is perfect. The Playboy roll, with gently broiled salmon and spicy mayo, was so good we had it for dessert, too. It's really fantastic. I'm telling everyone I know.

Worst sushi at the highest price in town. Teeny tiny rolls . Spicy tuna roll had a very weird aftertaste. Also ordered chicken katsu. Serving sizes are an absolute insult and $18 entrees don't even come with rice. Somehow even the soy sauce tastes wrong. Go anywhere else this place is obviously just trying to take their customers for a ride.

Sushi Experience №32

Well where to start? I was the only person in the place and it took 20 minutes to prepare a chirashi bowl. And when I say prepare, I mean it was chunks of too-cold fish on a desperately small amount of tasteless rice- none of the fine knife skills or seasoning you might find elsewhere. Can't hide poor skills behind a sliced avocado and an edible flower. Turns out the person working- there was only 1- didn't get to work early enough to check what needed to be prepped, as they were out of seaweed salad and he didn't know until it was too late. I didn't really want miso soup but it was the only other option to go with my $30 (!!!!) Lunch "special." It must have been very special indeed because I got less than 6 oz of it. It was bland and bitter and i did not eat it. What a terrible waste of my lunch and my money. Instead of importing Japanese fish, you'd think they'd take some lessons from the Japanese about crafting their cuisine. It's a no from me.

I'm picky and grew up with costal vs landlocked. This is a very close second always a friendly environment. All around amazing! 😍

UPDATE NEW OWNER: I came in with my boyfriend tonight. 02/25/2024
New owner is awesome! While I miss Ashley he was just as friendly and engaged with his customers. Quality of fish is still as amazing. It's very well sourced. Hamachi Kama was amazing. HIGHLY recommend the donuts for dessert, if you're not into sweets get the volcano roll for dessert it's still as fabulous as it's always been. The only complaint I would have is the small menu, while the last one was huge this one almost seems too small. Maybe find a bit more variety in the rolls. My boyfriend said bring back the ikura but personally I'm glad it's gone not my favorite but to each their own. Over all fantastic. Still keeping my 5 star review for everything.

Sushi Leo always delivers. So fresh and great quality sashimi and sushi. The ramen too is well prepared. We nearly always order agedashi tofu, lightly battered and fried the way it should be prepared. Sushi Leo is a friendly place to dine in, but also efficient if you’re looking to pre-order and bring it home. A little taste of Japan here in Longmont.

Randall, the owner was behind the counter and made sure we had a great time. Fish was fresh and delicious. I tried the Summer Roll, which was a nice change from traditional rice rolls (cucumber and jalapeno wrapped around the fish in the middle). Highly recommend that one. Seaweed salad was fresh and tasty! Maguro was on point.

I was craving sushi and we ordered pick-up from Sushi Leo. I've never eaten here before but had heard it was good so I didn't think I would be so disappointed. The sushi was decent, but not great. Eel rolls are usually a safe bet at any sushi place, but this one was not good. The chicken yakitori was *very* dry. The bulgogi was $15. The serving was so small it was insulting, and it didn't even come with rice. I took a photo of it with my hand for reference. For 3 rolls, yakitori and bulgogi it was $70, plus tax and tip, so $90 total. I feel like I wasted my money and won't be going back.

I called this place without a menu, asking for recommendations. I ordered three simple and small sushi rolls - playboy, spicy salmon, and a red dragon roll. I also ordered karaji. The total over the phone was $60, which I thought to be about 2-3X what I should pay, but whatever. Expectations were high. Expectations were not met in quantity or quality. The karaji was oily and nothing I had ever recieved before. There was also a smear of some type of left over on the bottom of the to-go container. The chicken seemed old and it honestly felt like they grabbed someone's leftovers and sent them to me. The sushi was extremely small and it seemed rushed because of how they were put together.

I live nearby and love sushi. You lost quite a bit of money in your greed and lack of quality. I expect a response of "sorry you had a bad experience - use our menu sometime," but I know enough to know when a business is taking advantage of opportunity.

Good strip mall Sushi. In something of a reversal of expectations, the fish was excellent, although only adequately prepared and served. High prices make this a tough recommendation when there are options nearby that get the intangibles right at a similar price point.

Service was ok, but not great. We ordered a gluttonous amount of sushi, they decided to serve it in 2 rounds but probably should've served it in 3 rounds as our appetizers came quickly yet the first sushi round took over 30 minutes to arrive, which is too long. The server didn't ask to refill drinks until after the first round of sushi. With more care, they could've balanced out the arrival of our food to reduce "dead time" at the table. To be fair, they only had 1 waiter working and about 5 or 6 active tables, so the waiter was pretty busy.

The nigiri was well done and mostly excellent. Specifically the red snapper and yellowtail were superb. Red snapper was firm with some toothsome snap to it. The ahi was also very good, not mushy nor metallic (common Colorado flaws with tuna). The salmon was slightly less great, still very good, but a half-step back from their other fish.

Where they lose a star is for their freshwater eel (unagi). It was cold and uniform in texture. Ideally the unagi should be fresh cooked with some crispy bits around the edges by a torch or searing station.

The rolls were OK but nothing special. Nice quality of avocado but they were overfilled with cucumber and carrot and had tiny amounts of fish.

The restaurant's choice of soy sauce is unfortunate as it is very one-note and too salty. They should at least use low sodium soy by default and if possible switch suppliers.

Finally, a subjective issue -- their wasabi was too mild for my palate, perhaps this was an attempt to mimic 'real' Japanese wasabi, but most western sushi restaurants use the spicy horseradish wasabi which I am used to and prefer for mainstream sushi.

Sushi Experience №43

Sushi Leo was my favorite restaurant, until last night 11/17/23. It is usually packed on a Friday night, so I called and made reservations for 8pm for my partner and I. When we arrived, the restaurant was completely empty. The staff looked surprised to see us and the vibe was different with Grateful Dead playing on the speakers and sports on the tv. (An unoriginal experience here in Colorado.)The vibe used to be classy. Their menu shrunk to 1/3 of its size and the nigiri and sushi roll prices DOUBLED. I used to get 2 pieces of nigiri for $6-$7 and it was $10- $13. I was told the reason they didn’t have mackerel, fatty tuna, sea urchin, salmon roe, surf clam, etc. is because “people don’t like it”. That can’t be true! The list of quirky sushi rolls was eliminated and replaced with your basic crab salad & shrimp tempura-based sushi rolls with avocado; I could buy these rolls at King Soopers. They were overpriced and lacked creativity.

In the past, I would feel like a special guest in the chef’s kitchen at Sushi Leo. The service wasn’t bad last night, but it wasn’t great. We were the only ones there until one other couple showed up. The Nigiri was fresh, but there were no seasonal varieties of fish, specials, or quirky sushi rolls. This was my go-to restaurant for special occasions with my partner (last night I celebrated a bonus I worked hard for) and now I don’t think I’ll go there again. 💔 I’m feeling heartbroken, honestly.

Sushi Experience №46

OVERPRICED. BAD SERVICE. Average quality.

Overpriced:
An order of yellowtail nigiri here is more than Sushi Den, if you can believe that.
Three average size pieces of yellowtail nigiri with a tiny side salad is $15 here!! That makes it $10 for an order, which is traditionally two pieces in most every sushi restaurant I’ve ever been to, but for some reason here it is three pieces. $15 for three pieces equals $10 an order. Ridiculously expensive.
There’s high and sushi restaurants in New York that don’t charge $10 an order for yellowtail. Yellowtail at Sushi Den in Denver is around 8 to 9 dollars for way better quality fish. How do you justify charging more than Sushi Den? Good luck.
I’ll come buy the fixtures from your restaurant when you’re out of business in six months.

Service:
After three visits to our table to drop off food, the waitress just looked at the stack of dirty dishes on our table and just left them there. I angrily moved the plates to the empty table next to us and slammed them down. Nothing is more irritating than eating in front of a stack of dirty dishes when the waitress has been by two or three times and had plenty of opportunity to pick them up. We were one of only two tables in the restaurant at the time as well, so they definitely were not busy. It’s insulting. We had to ask for water refills as well. How tacky is that in a sushi restaurant?

Chicken Teriyaki bowl:
One of my kids had the chicken teriyaki bowl. This was a joke at $16. There was about four or five tiny little strips of chicken teriyaki over a giant pile of white of rice with about a half cup of vegetables for $16. This felt like a complete rip off.

Nigiri:
Octopus nigiri was average, but overpriced.
The 2 orders of tobiko were decent, but the rice cups fell apart as soon as they were picked up.
The yellowtail roll was $11. Really? A $7 roll pretty much ANYWHERE else is $11 here?! Why?

HORRIBLE SERVICE and EXTREMELY OVERPRICED.

We will DEFINITELY NEVER RETURN.

AWFUL! The sushi "Chef" ( dude with huge gauged ears and a beard) made rolls that fell apart the second you touch them. They had scales in them, my sashimi had fish bones in it. He prepared them awfully, and had some stupid excuse about how the scale must have accidentally gotten into one of the rolls when he was cutting it, but it was in every piece of the rolls, and then he remade it. yep in every piece of that too. Just their attitude and lying about the sushi made it very untrustworthy. 60+ bucks down the toilette. Avoid at all costs.

I don't know if it was because it was a holiday but this food was bad. Got a to go order, ate within 10 min of picking up. half the food was wrong, labeled right on the to go boxes but both rolls were not what was orderd. The spicy miso soup was just broth. Says it should have tofu, baby spinach and scallions. Nothing in the broth or in the bags to put into the broth. They got the two appetizers right but the shumai were stuck to the paper they put in the box. Had to cut off the bottoms, don't want to eat paper. The nigiri was sour. Maybe it was bad fish, maybe too much vinegar in the rice. Had a few bites of everything and threw it away. I won't waste my time, or money eating here again.

Sushi Experience №66

I'll start by saying this, the sushi was great. It was the best I've had so far in Longmont. The restaurant was packed and my server was good for being the only one there, they seemed very short staffed. Reason for the 1 star is the owners/managers attitude towards her employees. She was very friendly to customers but would very often get upset and yell at my server. I heard her get livid over very small things, and then proceed to apologize to customers because she forgot to make a roll, twice, for a table. Will not be going back to a place where someone treats her staff so poorly. Really ruins the experience when you can tell it's a toxic work environment and the servers are stressed because of it.

My husband and I decided on Sushi Leo for our anniversary dinner-- we simply adore sushi and trying different sushi restaurants. Not anymore though. This is now our go-to! Everything from the atmosphere and the staff was lovely-- I don't have enough room to rave about the food! The rolls were crafted with amazing depth of flavor and plating, the fish was handsome in both look and size, and the house sake is both dry with a subtle hint of sweet that paired well with everything from spicy to sweet. This establishment simply knows its fish. We will be back for everything on their menu! This is my favorite sushi place! The space is clean, light, and open. The food is consistently delicious, high quality, and inventive. The chef is exceptionally talented, skilled. The specials rotate with the season. If you haven't had the Longmont roll yet, give it a try!

For this trip, we had tamago nigiri, the Sasuke roll, the Haruka roll, the Ace roll, the Mango Ceviche, and the Saba Missoni.

The tamago was light, clean, slightly sweet, savory, and cool. I highly recommend having tamago nigiri to start your meal! I've heard that a hallmark of a great sushi chef is well made tamago nigiri. I believe that is the case at Sushi Leo!

The Sasuke roll was made with salmon and cream cheese, then deep fried. The temperature of the roll was perfect! It had the crunch and comfort of a nice grilled cheese. If you prefer cooked sushi, this is a roll to try!

The Haruka roll was lovely, made with spicy tuna, tuna slices, and avocado slices, and served with a nice light, citrusy, savory, strawberry sauce. I would characterize this roll as a summer symphony. The flavors were balanced, fresh, and complex. While it is still hot out, this is the roll to have!

The Ace roll was made with spicy tuna, deep fried, the topped with sliced tuna. The spicy tuna was perfectly seasoned, with some heat and a wonderful undercurrent of sesame oil. The batter was light, allowing for the bite to be smaller with a nice warm crispiness. Cooking the roll seems to bring out the sesame oil more and dampen the spiciness of the spicy tuna.

The Mango Ceviche was made with raw yellowtail, salmon, tuna, mango, and mixed lettuce/greens. It was perfect for the hot weather today! The ceviche was light, sweet, fresh, and balanced. I highly recommend getting this if they still have it!

The Saba Missoni was mackerel, cooked in a smooth, savory, salty sauce. I enjoy mackerel, but be aware that it is a fishy-tasting fish that not everyone may like. The mackerel was tender and delicious!

Our meal was about an hour long. Food was brought out as it was ready. The seats are comfortable and minimal. The building has a small vibration to it, which I enjoyed while sitting against the wall after I was finished eating. All of the food came out to about $100. While the standard rolls are available here, the specials and specialty rolls are consistently much more delightful. This is a great place for lunch dates!

Crazy underrated. Absolutely phenomenal sushi. Tops any I've had in Boulder with an added bonus of the staff who always seems to go out of their way to say hi and make me feel extra welcome.

The staff is very welcoming, we came in with a large party, it is a small space and they had no qualms about seating us. Everything we have ever ordered at Sushi Leo has been delicious, our 6 year old loves their California roll and our 3 year old loves their udon. I can’t recommend this place enough!

Wanted to come eat today (Monday), because their Google hours said they were open, but it turns out they were actually closed. Biked 30 minutes to get there. At least it was good exercise, and Qdoba was next door.

Excellent sushi. About $3-5 more expensive per item than what you’d normally expect, but service was excellent, fish was fresh and delicious. They have creative rolls, never had tamago in a caterpillar roll before. Definitely recommend giving them a try!

Rainbow Roll, Unagi, salmon avocado. The rice was probably the problem.

I have found heaven and its right here!! Took my wife out to lunch to try them out for the first time every single little thing was scrumptious! (you absolutely have to try the ikura sushi.)

Overall you can expect to pay a tad bit more compared to other spots but it's absolutely worth every penny, from the environment setting to the awesome personal friendly staff and their food. I'll definitely be coming back!

We were sad to discover some changes in the quality and taste of the food that we use to enjoy once in this once our most favorite Japanese restaurant in longmont. I don't know how my husband and I can bring ourselves back from today. Don't get me wrong the food was edible and well plated, but lacking the special high quality taste and flavor it once had.

For some reason, while I knew about Sushi Leo's, I apparently never ate here, or their menu changed. On a whim, I was looking at their menu for delivery and was shocked to see gyudon listed. Since no other Japanese restaurant in Longmont sells a proper, Japanese beef bowl, I ordered it with gyoza. Both were amazing, if expensive.

Another delivery order, I tried the pork katsu (tonkatsu) curry rice (with a tonkatsu appetizer as I love tonkatsu so much) with some shrimp and veggie tempura. Again, it was all amazing, though very expensive. I didn't feel gypped about food quantity, and even with delivery, the quality came through. That says a lot to me.

They just need to add potato croquettes to the veggie appetizer menu and this place would be near perfect for me.

What an amazing experience !! My wife and I came for lunch for the first time in Sushi Leo and loved every single second of it. The food is so good , fresh, clean and just absolutely delicious . But the true winner was definitely the amazing service that the staff offer here. Everyone was super friendly and nice, answered any question we have and really took care of us.
This was our first time here, but there is no question that we will come back very soon. Thank you!!

This was the best place for sushi, Nigirizushi, Sashimi I’ve had in awhile and their ramen was top notch! Megumi was super friendly and conversed very well she really seemed to love her job! All staff were super friendly helpful and patient, I would recommend this place to anyone!!! Very large food and sake menu! Come check this place out.

Sushi was all delicious but some confusion on which rolls were which, the seaweed salad was a bust -unexcitiing and a tiny portion for the $6.50 price point (it was four bites..)
The service was a little off, they didn't have enough cups to serve our whole table 🙄 it was a strange thing. It did seem oddly busy for a Thursday so maybe we caught them in a bad night...
Over al, I've had much better experiences and better food for cost at some of the other places around town. BUT I'll give them another try at some point..

I came here on both Monday and Tuesday but they were closed and didn’t update google map! I ordered Spicy Seafood Ramen today, it tasted good, but not spicy enough for me and the noodle felt like those 25cents instant Ramen noddle.

Really nice sushi, miso might have a little if the veggie/ tofu. When paying a lunch price for curry chicken of $15 I would expect white meat, it was all dark. Tasty but disappointing and really takes away from the dish. I would come again in a pinch. Value and quality for the price is the reason for 3star

Came in late, but felt welcomed and warm greeting from the staff. Amazing service and extremely friendly! Got great suggestions and ordered a sashimi sampler and 2 fifferent tuna rolls (a firecracker roll, and a super crazy roll). Tuna rolls were great and the sampler was delicious. I'd highly recommend this place and will be coming back. Great food, service, and vibes.

Food was good, just attention to detail isn’t followed, my order for noodle soup we specified no veggies or onions and when my son got his soup he didn’t seem to really be enjoying it and later he told me they had put onions in his noodle soup , the waiter did realize his mistake and all he said is he’s sorry, no replacement of dish or discount. Luckily he has no allergic reactions. So definitely paying attention to the specified order is important in my opinion.

If I could give it a -star rating I would!! I order takeout for valentines day and set it up to pick it up at a later time (4:00). When my husband got there at 4 they said they didn't know who he was or where the order ticket was. Then they made him wait 10 minutes to find the ticket but what they didn't told him was that the food wasn't even ready. After that time passed they told him to wait 10-50 minutes for the food to be ready! I almost wanted to cancel the service but we paid too much money to cancel! The Service there is horrible!! They were giving customers thir food before ours! We had to wait 2 hours for our takeout order to be ready. Gave it a second chance but no, NEVER ordering from this place again!

Sushi Leo has new ownership last couple of months. I've been going to this restaurant since they opened and seen all the ownerships and sushi chef styles.

I enjoy going to Sushi Leo again. I appreciate the sushi again and how the head sushi chef prepares the sushi. He also gives suggestions which I always take. The owner is friendly and interacts with customers. The sushi is good and fresh.

Give them a try again if you haven't in a couple of months.

We were very happy with our service from Rebecca. I think that was her name. She was very attentive and helpful. We liked the atmosphere and appetizers and dinner. After reading the reviews I hope she gets most of the tip because she is the one who waited on us. The price of the tiramisu was very expensive for the size you get. Very small portions, otherwise we enjoyed the rest.
