A wonderful sushi experience in LoHi Denver. I've taken the wife for a couple date night dinners & both times have been great!

We've had a few different rolls & while they aren't our favorite, everything else has exceeded our expectations. The sashimi is absolutely incredible, especially the various Tuna & Yellowtail options are like butter - just melts in your mouth.

Highly recommend for a date night for anyone that loves a great sushi experience.

My hubs, daughter and I ate at sushi sasa after a fun trip to the Denver aquarium (watching all those fish made us hungry for fish!). We loved the sushi here. The highlight was the strawberry shortcake sushi- so unique and outstanding! Fabulous cocktails, loved the lychee martini.

Very fresh fish - tasted how sushi should taste. Slightly expensive but worth the cost due to the high quality. Great service. Booth was a bit uncomfortable. Very pleasant experience. The temaki was good, but the fresh crisp of the nori was lacking, not a deal breaker by any means as the portion was large. Nigiri and sashimi was top notch. Miso soup was a perfect blend of miso and dashi. House salad dressing was refreshing, crisp, and accompanied the meal with elegance. Overall 5 stars. We will be back.

Sushi Experience №14

Very poor quality fish that does not taste fresh, and has very poor pale color, especially the salmon, which was a bit slimy even.

Fish basically lays on top of the rice instead of being a proper piece of single nigiri. The fish and rice do not stick together.

Sushi rice is poorly prepared—watery with inconsistent vinegar piece to piece. Some Nigiri have rice temperature that is too warm and contrasts heavily with the fish.

Ginger is very low quality and dried out. Imagine the ginger that comes in premade grocery store containers, same thing.

Wasabi looks and taste like it came from a squeeze tube last week.

Glassware is the quality of what you would find at a Chilis. Thick, bulky and not appropriate for an “upscale” place. Makes the whole table lack aesthetically.

The Lavender Lychee Martini tastes like a lavender bath bomb, over infused with no subtleties.

Service is not up to the level of what a “nicer” sushi spot should be. Tons of waiters but you’ll be lucky if they come to your table more than twice. Bus boys asking you to hand you their plate across the table over your date.

Atmosphere looks cheap with plastic leg tables, and a bit soulless with quiet music.

This place has fallen off a cliff since I’ve last been here 3/4 years ago. (I Was not impressed back then either to be fair).

Surely in my top three sushi restaurants in the metro, along with Tasuki in Boulder. Everything on the menu is excellent and the fish is fresh. If I had to be picky, I wish their bento boxes had more to offer and their fish selection for nigiri to have more speciality fish either imported from Japan or the West coast. Other than it, I absolutely love the place.

Sushi Experience №31

Let me start by saying that I visited this restaurant a number of times over the past 15+ years.

Once upon a time, this was a great restaurant with high-quality fish and great service. During my most recent visit a few days ago, I found the above to be a distant memory.

Upon arrival, the host seemed lost and clueless in locating our reservation for a party of 10; the largest reservation of the evening for them. The rest of our service experience was lackluster at best. I.e. 15 to 20 minute long gaps of no server in sight, no drinks being refilled, etc.

The food was a rock solid 3 out of 10. Every single piece of fish, whether in a roll or nigiri, was hard, dry, and tasteless. I’ve honestly had better sushi at Whole Foods.

To that point, Full stop: Anyone who claims that this establishment is on par with Sushi Den or Izakaya Den is absolutely lacking in experience. Truly, that is almost insulting. Those restaurants are on another level and cannot be beat in Denver.

All this to say, Sushi SASA has seen it’s best years behind it and it’s current situation, the food is sub mediocre, and the host and serving staff were clearly not of the top caliber.

No disrespect but this is my honest take based on my group experience.

Came here for dinner a little over sixteen years ago. Had a bad experience then. Wife forgot and booked again. Nothing has changed you can still go to any cheap sushi place and have a better experience. They messed up our order, and then claimed it was an upgrade and wouldn't fix it until we complained when it was time to pay. Service got worse as the meal went on. Not sure how they get rated highly. They couldn't do simple things like refill water or provide basic attention. Go anywhere else pay half the price and get an experience that is 10x better.

My friend took me here for the first time. She had been there once before and loved it, this time she was a little unimpressed with the food. The server was kind and the place was cute and very clean. I got salmon sashimi and she got a California roll. We spilt the vegetable tempura and a spider roll. We enjoyed the tempura but the rest of the rolls and the sashimi was okay. It was bad but wasn't the best. Overall the amount of food you get for the price is not bad. We are willing to try the place again. There is designated parking behind the restaurant which was nice

In conclusion, the sushi at Sushi Sasa is more than just food—it's an experience. From the freshness of the ingredients to the creativity of the chefs, every aspect of the sushi at Sushi Sasa is crafted with care and passion. It's no wonder it's my favorite sushi spot in Colorado.

Incredible sushi and service. We got a salmon appetizer, some sushi rolls, nigiri and a dessert. Everything was delicious. Their salmon really stood out in terms of flavor, color and texture. Will definitely be back for that. We also loved the lychee sorbet that had actual chunks of lychee fruit in it and was made in-house. The service was also excellent, and for what you get in terms of portion and quality, the prices are really great. We look forward to coming back and would recommend this place to all sushi lovers out there.

Went for the first time with my girlfriend for a nice sushi dinner. Service and greeting was good. Sat a little tight. When we went to give our sushi order paper to our waitress, she promptly looked it up and down and told us that it was too much, and removed two of our rolls from our order. We only ordered 4 rolls and some nigiri, and a seaweed salad before that. Even if that is considered “too much”, it really wasn’t that much, and in the end we are the paying customer AND wouldn’t you want the customer to pay more? Idk maybe I’m being extra, but it was definitely done a little rudely and made us feel shameful for ordering. Definitely made us feel uncomfortable as we were around a bunch of people and made us feel like we did something wrong when 4 rolls and some nigiri is really not that much sushi lol.

I’ll never come here again. The best thing is fried rice….and I don’t like fried rice. King Soopers has better sushi than this. The A5 is not true A5. It’s a knock off. Foie gras is non existent. It came in crumbles. Everything was tasteless (besides the fried rice). Don’t get the sushi, don’t get the ramen, don’t get anything here. Trash. Everything was bad. Trash trash trash. Bad. My recent visit to Sushi Sasa was terrible, primarily due to the service. As soon as we walked in, I could tell the waitress or manager wasn't giving us a warm welcome. The rest of the staff seemed uninterested, and that feeling lasted the whole meal.

While the sushi was okay, it wasn't enough to make up for the rotten service. Customer service is more than just bringing food to a table. It also means making the restaurant feel welcoming and making sure customers are happy, which is where Sushi Sasa really fell short.

I'm a Colorado native, and out of my 40 years of dining, this experience was the most bizarre. The employees must have read a book on how to provide a pleasant dining experience and then did the exact opposite. In the future, customers may consider visiting different restaurants for a more enjoyable sushi experience. Advice for management: train your staff or clean house and start over.

I started coming to Sasa 15 years ago and would sit st the bar and chat with Wayne. I have always loved it here. So after I moved out of Colorado I was excited to come back. I promised my friends that it’s the best Sushi spot in Denver.

I was absolutely embarrassed when we were treated so badly by these young, totally rude employees. Three different employees all delivered the same, sad, apathetic experience.

After being seated downstairs in an awkwardly quiet “lounge” my friend asked if there is a bathroom downstairs. The bartender says “yes” hardly looking up and not even bothering to offer some basic directions. That’s one of many weird interactions we had with these people. It’s crazy how the culture has changed.

Sadly I’m done recommending this place. Looking forward to trying Uchi.

Wayne, you need to do a better job at hiring and leading your team. Maybe read Danny Meyer’s book. Do something. This place has turned j to such a massive disappointment.

When did Sushi restaurants start having BBQ on appetizer list? 2 dollars for pot of tea ? I paid over 200 dollars for dinner for two excluding tip and that is what I got . Luke warm tea I have to serve myself. Futomaki in general are big roll but their version of that is a 1 1/4 inch small roll. Creative some are but to pay 20 dollars a roll was too much. I specifically said it was my son’s 30 th birthday dinner and there was not even a scoop of ice cream with a candle. What a service. I would have added more on tips if there was something. How much does it cost to the restaurant to give a scoop of ice cream or mochi?? The whole restaurant cater to many many tables thus there no feeling of authentic sushi bar . Just FYI this suppose to be high end and they can’t even show fish they cut and serve in the case where we normally see at good sushi restaurant . Good luck surviving !

Went here for late lunch as they were still open. Used to come regularly but that was over 10 years ago. Glad to see they are still doing lunch service and since we didn't get there until 2pm (they close at 2:30), we had ample parking in the lot behind the building.
My mom had their Nabeyaki Udon which was served nice and hot with lots of chicken, noodles and a side of shrimp, potato and zucchini tempura.
We also had their shishito pepper appetizer, cooked just right, sprinkled with sesame seeds and served with an unnecessary side of mayo.
We also got their Diablo Roll (not at all spicy) & their Zen Spicy Salmon (also not spicy at all). Both tasted fresh and tasty albeit a little expensive for the size but that seems to be restaurant prices these days...
Service was great, we had a lovely time chatting with our waitress and she never made us feel rushed even though we were the last people there.
Will definitely be back when we're in the area.

This was our whole group's first time coming here, celebrating a friend's birthday. The food was so amazing, although it took a while to come out. We ordered a ton of rolls, nigiri, and a few appetizers. They all tasted so good, some of the best sushi l've had in a long time and l've worked at another sushi restaurant for three years.
The reason for two stars is that our server was really off-putting. From the minute the first of us sat down, she seemed to be so upset every time we asked for something and would either sigh or roll her eyes. We had been there for 30 minutes and we were just finishing up our order, she came up to us super annoyed saying "Is your order ready yet? If you guys don't put it in soon it's going to take two hours." We appreciated the heads up but it just seemed like she wanted nothing to do with us. We are all service industry workers, we understand a big table can be a hassle but we were genuinely surprised at the way she acted the whole time she was serving us.
Overall the food was great, but the service was seriously lacking, especially for how much money we spent.

When I asked the server for a plastic bag to store two plastic containers for the leftovers, I got a “BLACK” plastic bag. I wish I got the nice store logo bag for take out or at least a White plastic bag. I don’t think that they want others to see a trash bag like coming out of their store by customers. Quite disappointed in our dining experience tonight. This is my second time here and a lot of things went wrong.

I ordered the Snake River Beef Truffle Foie Gras appetizer and got the wrong beef dish. Our server took it away to get the right one made and a different server brought the incorrect appetizer that we sent back right back to us within minutes. After we had it taken away again, our server brought us the correct appetizer, only for us to find multiple hair in it. We sent it back and asked for it not to be remade as our entree sushi rolls had come out by that time. We were told the appetizer would be removed from our bill. We asked for plates so we can eat the sushi entrees. Unfortunately, the plate also had a hair.

Chalking it up to a series of bad luck, we just let it go and asked for our check once we were done... which arrived with the appetizer on the bill. Then we were questioned whether we ordered multiple appetizers before they took it and removed it from the bill. Meanwhile, our server disappeared after the appetizer was taken back a second time and we hadn't seen him again since. The service was incredibly disorganized and quite a disappointing experience, given that the food is actually good...when it's not insanitary and contains hair in it.

2 stars because the food is good, removed 3 stars for multiple instances of bad service. Proceed with caution.

Had an awesome dinner for two last night at Sushi Sasa. Sushi Sasa remains one of my favorite sushi restaurants in Denver. We recently took a friend there for dinner who also loved the food and ambience.

Last night’s service was flawless from the moment we were greeted, seated, served and table intermittently bussed. We had an early dinner with only a few tables in the front seated, then suddenly the house was full. Everyone hustled but never gave you the impression they were too busy for you. Rolls and nigiri were fresh and delicious. I’ve loved this place for years and intend to return.

I have got to say this has been the best sushi I’ve had so far here in Denver. It is the freshest fish if tasted since I’ve moved from California. I will be coming here more often then I should. To be honest, I expected it to be a lot more pricier as well since I’ve been to other “fancier” sushi spots around cherry creek and university. It did not compare. To top it off, the sushi was much better here, it was mind blowing. I will be recommending/bringing people to this place from Cali moving forward.

I love the fresh, vegetarian- and gluten-free sushi at this restaurant. The elegant ambiance and free parking are also pluses. I always order the eggplant fried rice with diablo sauce, which is absolutely delicious! It's spendy, but worth every penny.

The orders one roll and each roll the color of the fish was different (from dark red to light pink) maybe that’s just the cut of the fish? Regardless I hope I don’t get food poisoning!!

Went here for dinner with some friends last night, food was definitely overpriced for the quality that was received. The service was pretty subpar as well. After our food arrived, we didn’t see our server for over 30 mins. We definitely would have ordered more cocktails if given the chance. I had to track down another employee to get refills on water and our check. It was a nice surprise to see an automatic gratuity for pretty lazy service. Wouldn’t recommend- better sushi spots around town

This place is a sensory nightmare for anyone who gets overwhelmed by sound. The space is relatively small and completely made of hard surfaces (chairs, tables, floors, walls), so noise bounces around. I couldn't hear the host or our server and had trouble hearing the other people at my table. The whole experience really detracted from enjoying the food everyone raves about. Approach with caution.

I always read the reviews before I eat at a restaurant. Needless to say, I was hesitant with Sushi Sasa because of some recent mixed reviews. But I felt compelled to come on here and say that the reviews left for this place are super unfair! I had a phenomenal experience in front of the owner and head chef Wayne, who actually mans the sushi bar, and we got to talking about the cacophony of varying reviews for the restaurant. He explained to me that it has been unbelievably difficult to navigate staffing issues as well as the implementation of a recent service charge replacing the traditional tip model designed to benefit his entire team post-pandemic. Actually, I learned that this is more the way things are done traditionally in Japan. I have my fair share of doubts with some of the super negative reviews based on my experience. I can confidently say after talking with Wayne and his crew, if you reached out directly before leaving a horrible review, that they would make things right and exceed your expectations! Sorry Sushi Sasa if I brought your points down by listing this review as a 1 star rating, but I figured folks reading the other negative reviews should see this one as well. With all this being said, you get 10/5 stars in my book, and I don’t put a lot of stock in these companies holding so much clout over restaurants anyway…

This place has an auto gratuity that they are up front about... I don't like that because tips should be earned not required and it is 21% of your tab... Our service was shockingly mediocre and would not deserve such a large amount from me leaving a tip if could decide for myself. I served tables for a long time and I would never return to a table after 15/20 minutes and ask the customer if they had received their food yet.... All that being said the drinks from the list were VERY sweet I got an old fashion that could have been the syrup for an old fashion normally, my girlfriend likes sweet drinks and couldn't even finish the lychee martini. We told the server this and he said he could take them away if we would like... was all. Positives are the fish was AMAZING especially the Toro we had 4 separate sashimi options oysters and a few rolls all were well formulated and very fresh! If great food is what you are after go here if high end quality dining is what you are after stay away will only provide disappointment.

I don’t know why people are comparing this place to Sushi Den. Nothing comparable in terms of food quality, service or atmosphere!! The food is just ok, but not great! I think if you are a Denver local, you would rate it as just below Hapa with Sushi Den prices. I would rather eat at Hapa than here! Priced super high for medium to low quality fish.

Not sure anymore...
I've been coming to Sushi Sasa for 15 years. We even went there for take out during covid. The food was always good and the service was top notch. The atmosphere was great. All of that was true until the last 2 times we have gone there. 2 months ago we noticed that the service wasn't that good. Today, they charge you for parking. The restaurant took took a step backward too. Upon seating us, he said that the total will include a service charge. No problem as long as good service is provided. Well, to start with, they got our order wrong. We ordered 4 different rolls. We began eating and I asked my wife if she had changed 2 of the sushi rolls that I had ordered. She said she hadn't. A couple of mins later our waitress appeared. she was pretty nonexistent throughout the meal. When she did come to the loud dinning room, she concentrated on the party of 10 people and us in passing. Even when standing at our table, she was talking to the party of 10! She said that someone else had made a mistake and given us 2 different sushi rolls and offered to credit them to us. Throughout the meal, the food that we did order was very good. It would have been better if we received all of the correct food. Our waitress did a Houdini act for most of our meal but at the end, did ask us if there was anything else that we wanted. She brought the check which included a $41 service charge. 41 bucks for terrible service and the wrong food! Sorry Sushi Sasa, you are no longer worth the drive.

Started off woth a Kirin Ichiban (22oz) and the waiter poured it for me. But did a horrible job. 2" of head. Order the Hamachi Jalapeño (6pcs)($20) fantastic taste, enough for four people to share. Also go the Sasa Trio ($22) incredibly satisfying dish. Also, enough for 4 people to enjoy. We then ordered several rolls. Rocky mountain roll is worth it! Try the dip. And the strawberry shortcake roll was oddly named but well liked. The Toro was perfect. The unagi was great. And for dessert we got the tempura cheesecake and the Wasabi Tiramisu. Both were great. The cheese cake had good texture, the batter was a bit oily. And the ice cream was really enjoyed. The Tiramisu was a shock for a few at the table. Not your traditional version of the dessert. But the espresso matched flawlessly with the Wasabi.
All in all a great dinner. $280+tip included 4 drinks, 2 starters, several sets of rolls and 2 desserts. Make it a point to go. Get reservations!
Update 1 year later. We (4) returned. Angela saved the day when a newbie server couldn't handle his tables. Dinner took 3 hours and the food tasted great!

Oddly enough, my friend and I were sat in a darker back room away from the other guests. We could hear our waiter talking about us to the other staff members. That wasnt cool. Made us feel a bit odd and out of place, BUT THE FOOD WAS AMAZING. Shout out to the chefs. You are doing your job perfectly 💞

The head server was good but needs help. Octopus was cut way too thick, I just couldn't chew it. Miso cod was undercooked. The cod soup was amazing, and the pork buns were really tasty. So loud in there. My wife took me here for my birthday and we couldn't hear each other at all. 1 drink each and food was $200+. Don't think we'd go back, too many other sushi places in town. I'd totally get a to go soup, tho, if I was in their hood

Sushi Sasa used to be our go to place for good Sushi, but not anymore. Quality of the Sushi is getting worse every time. Waiters are always new and they don’t know how to serve. Now Sushi Sasa has added automatic “Service Charge”, 21% of Dine in and delivery, and 15% for pick up. The new waiter told me 40% of the Service charge goes to Owners of Sushi Sasa and 60% split between employees. It’s automatic and you CANNOT change it. They even drew a heart on my receipt so I feel better about it.

I ordered a pick up and drove two hours all the way from Elizabeth to be charged 15% for a service charge. What service was I provided? I had miso soup in my order and they thought it would be a good idea to lay it sideways in a bag…. I don’t know if the Owners changed, but never returning and I do not recommend this place anymore. Just a greedy restaurant with no service.

We dined here on a Sunday evening, we were greeted and seated promptly (reservations were made).
The restaurant offers free parking but be aware rather cramped.
The restaurant's simple and minimalist japanese decor offers a soothing and comfortable atmosphere.
Loved the fact that they installed mirrors alongside the wall for those patrons seating facing the wall a great way to keep them in touch with the ambiance.
The sushi menu is very complete, and indeed making this place a truly Sushi establishment, it has a sushi bar for those that would like to watch the experts preparing their dining selections.

The dishes are well prepared and well presented, but we felt was not a wow moment, we walked out feeling the total bill did not match the dining experience.

The only item ordered that we liked was the sushi plate.

The Bento Box, standard with the usual Japanese items; selected the shrimp and it was very good.
My biggest disappointment was the Chocolate Lava cake, it tasted as it came from the supermarket, from a box ( is not homemade).
This restaurant is pricey!!, and we feel not worth the $200 dollars dinner for two (the photos are ALL we ordered for $200, (including the gratuity imposed on you).
With so many choices for sushi in the Denver area, we will most likely not patronize this place again.

The food is always very good here and the service as well. Parking is a bit tricky, but they do have a few spots behind the restaurant if you get there early enough. If you eat sushi regularly this is definitely a place to go. Among other items, the uni here is the best that I've had. It's not inexpensive but you definitely get what you pay for, so be prepared to spend a little and have a great meal.

Super disappointed. The sushi/sashimi was pretty good but the service was terrible. The bill had a 21% service fee which felt obnoxious given the service provided. Given this experience, I cannot recommend this place. I'm giving 2 stars instead of 1 because at least the fish was good.

Sushi Sasa gets no star from me and my party of 6. The sushi was not tasty like usual, they sat us 45min past our reservation in the basement, and the manager was very rude. After a decade of suggesting Sushi Sasa as one of the best sushi places in Denver, I will never return. Izakaya Den, Uchi, and Sushi Den will be the recommendations.

I am always a little leery when eating sushi more than a thousand miles from nearest coast but Sushi Sasha goes toe to toe with any sushi restaurant right on the coast. Starting with a miso soup that is probably the best I have ever had; nothing fancy but the perfect blend of salty and consistency. The edamame with lime and garlic was also a pleasant surprise; a nice variation on a common dish. The app that really got out attention was the Sasa Trio Tartar. A combination of three fish (including tuna and salmon) served with hot rice crackers that were delightfully and delicately crunchy. The rolls and the niggiri were also fantastic. Add to this great service from Tiffany that came in with some killer recommendations and it was an awesome over all experience.

Sushi was definitely good, the service was bad. If you’re going to automatically charge a 21% service charge you should have some great service. Delicious sushi! The atmosphere was fancier than I predicted from the pictures. We started with aTokyo old fashioned and a Lychee pear martini. Both were amazing! Our four favorite rolls we tried the green dragon, Rocky Mountain, pink Lady, and the Diablo roll. Each had a unique flavor profile and I would 100% get all of them again! Our server was very helpful in deciding. Knocking a star because there was a piece of plastic wrap left on my roll. The manager was kind enough to take the roll of our bill though.
