This place is super cool, unbelievably fun place to eat. Came in with a large ish party on a Friday at 6 and sat in the waiting area for our food. Service was swamped but nice and was super cool inside. The dinner portions are crazy big and super cheap for what you get. I love this place. Will be back more soon. Hours are odd though and not correct.

Came to DOMO for the first time tonight and will definitely be back. The atmosphere is so cozy and welcoming, the staff were kind and helpful even though the place was packed. Our food came out pretty quickly and damn it was good! We had poke, hot pot, and sashimi all of which was top tier. Nothing but praise for domo!

Largely here and unfortunately; what you are paying for is the atmosphere. The thing about Japanese style dishes is the core of it is the quality of ingredients. Perhaps this is what others who had gone here sometime ago say is missing. My person and I had the pork cutlet curry and went for an evening course. It was rather… disappointing. Not that the food was terrible but having experienced good Japanese curry; this certainly was not it. First bite of the cutlet itself gave an aftertaste akin to smelling an open sewer line but on your taste buds. This masked only by the taste of, what tasted EXACTLY like, the “Golden Curry” sticks of curry that you can buy at your local Walmart. As the curry certainly did not taste home made, especially if you’ve had any local Indian curry, you can tell there is something missing in this restaurants curry. There was just something missing and, after some consideration, that seems to be quality of the products utilized. Which left the food tasting like something very soulless; and somehow worse then the Korean fast food chain “Bon Chon” which goes far beyond this restaurants efforts food wise…. and “Bon Chon” is fast food….Beyond that the service was abysmal. We tried waving both our waiter and several other workers down for a bill (we’d Been done for about 10 minutes and no one at all came to check the table) of which they all ignored us. The waiting staff was also SUPER awkward and gave 0 table service not even to a minimal degree. It was more so that it was a burden we were even there and I’ve seen workers at MacDonalds give more effort then the wait staff did. The iced tea was also served in a to-go cup which very much made the established feel incredibly cheap. Honestly, if you want good Japanese food don’t go here. There are SEVERAL restaurants in Aurora that do Japanese food WAYYY better and it’s actually worth the cost. This restaurant seems to be hanging on by its rusty pearls not knowing they were rusted copper all along.

Sadly, Covid broke a lot of great places to eat and that appears to be the case with DOMO in Denver. Pre-COVID I had taken family and clients to DOMO and it had been a fun an unique experience in Denver.

The DOMO that exists now is nothing like the DOMO from back in the day. Came on a Sunday before a Broncos game to have lunch with family and friends and the experience might be the worst restaurant experience I've had in my life.

We arrived, DOMO was about half full, 3 large tables available. Our party was a party of 8. The first experience was telling the hostess and him giving a big sigh, absolutely did not want to serve us.

After about 15 minutes we were sat and after another 15 or so our waitress came over to take our order. This is where things went from meh service to bad.

DOMO is running a hotpot seasonal entree, a few different types of broth and a few different proteins. Most of the table, including my wife who is Korean, ordered some form of the Hotpot and a couple appetizers.

Entrees came out first, one at a time, and the waitresses were putting plates to the wrong people (mix ups happen), its fine, so we correct or pass plates around. We receive 7 of 8 entrees, my wife not receiving hers. At this point the we're trying to explain to the waitress that we're missing an entree. There is some mix up between two of the hot pots and another person in out party apparently had my wife's and had taken a few bites before realizing that the order was wrong.

Not a big deal, but we're trying to get the 8th entree. The waitress takes one of the entrees from a party member and is going to have the kitchen correct. Then after a few minutes she brings back the entree she took, unfixed, and says that because one or more bites was taken she can't take it back and to get the right entree we'd be double charged.

Weird, and not very customer service oriented. But we are trying to explain we're still missing an entree. There are 8 people, 7 entrees.

At this point, I think the owner, Gaku Homma, comes out and starts yelling at our table, saying its our fault that the entrees ended up with the wrong people and that he wasn't going to remove any charges.

No one at our table had asked to be comped, we never asked to speak to the chef, we're only trying to get our final entree.

The owner continues to aggressively talk down to the table and the begins to berate my wife that its "our mistake".

Finally, I tell the owner this conversation is over and ask him to leave the table. My wife, feeling discriminated against and verbally abused, leaves the restaurant, won't come back in. We never get the 7th entree.

It was the the most shocking restaurant experience I've ever had. I don't know if the owner was having a bad day, really doesn't like Koreans, or something else but to verbally attack a table of patrons in a fairly crowded restaurant is just mind blowing.

This new DOMO since Gaku Homma reopened is a shell of its former self. Not only did this situation occur but the food was lackluster, nothing like the old DOMO food. Hotpot and soup broths were bland and watery, meat was over cooked.

Food: 2/10

Service: 0/10
- A note about this service. My wife is Korean, my children are half Korean. I don't know if the owner/chef was having a bad day or what, but I would never expose my family to the gross behavior that was presented.

This place is an absolute gem. The moment you step through the doors, you are transported to a special place. The decor, the menu, the food all make you feel like you made a quick trip to Japan. But not to a big city to eat sushi, but to a smaller town and being invited into someone's home. We had the kiritanpo, sukiyaki, dipping noodles, and onion tempura. Everything was delicious, fresh, and homey. In an area where there is not a large Asian population, most restaurants don't stick to one specific culture and it drives me crazy. So it was an absolute delight to discover this purely Japanese restaurant.

At least for my experience, the only good things about this place was the restaurant look and atmosphere, and the friendly lady who checked us in and helped us pay our bill up front. Otherwise, the experience and food were not good.

To start things off, the service is very very slow. And even then after raising our hand so many times the staff themselves are pretty cold to you, at least the ones who helped us with our order and when asking for the check. The only thing that was colder was their food: I ordered a pork cutlet curry and it came with two side dishes, one being some kind of green bean tempura, and it was both cold and soggy. Tempura should be warm and crispy.

The curry itself was so sweet almost like a candy, and the rice was so mushy almost like congee but the potatoes were almost firm. This may be personal preference but in my opinion a good curry should not be sweet and the potato should melt in your mouth and the rice should not be a porridge. Take this review how you will if you like your curry sweet or tempura cold and soggy then great, otherwise I would not recommend this place.

I am not one to make a review but based on our experience, one was needed. The service and food was poor. Be prepared to wait once seated for a long time and then if you come with a group, expect your food to not all come out at the same time. The server forgot my order and I had to go up to him and ask what happened. Once my food arrived, the food wasn’t even that good. The place was cute but do not recommend.

First of all, the atmosphere is great and traditional ! Great for pictures. My impression from the atmosphere was that the food would be traditional and at least decent. Indeed, you can’t expect much of asian food in Denver but if your decoration is so traditional I expect the food to be as-well. Im guessing the owner has been changed since its been open for so long..

Basically if you’re expecting real Japanese food and ending your day off with a nice drink find somewhere else. I learned to check the lowest ratings next time as this was not worth my calorie intake..

The service is nonexistent. They never asked how the food was ? One didnt know their own menu ? Least you could do is smile..

They have nice crispy water!

Honestly it's so well priced for the amount of food you get, I wouldn't even be mad if the price was a little more for how good it was.
So glad I brought my family of 4.

Do yourself a favor and read all the 1 star reviews before you go here. This review is mostly for service, though food was super meh too. If you get a young blonde guy as your waiter, ask for someone else.

When I politely asked if we could be sat somewhere with a chair that has a back because my friend recently got her APPENDIX TAKEN OUT, this waiter essentially just said no, quite rudely. I asked if we could wait to be seated until one of those tables was free, or be resat once it was. Again no. A nice waitress had to come and save us, offering to bring my friend a chair from outside.

When ordering, he couldn’t identify if any of the dishes had mushrooms, an allergy of mine. When I asked if he could ask the chefs which of the noodle soups were mushroom free, he said that he couldn’t ask anyone ??? It is service 101 to ask someone else at the restaurant if a dish has an allergy in it, if you don’t know. But also, you should know???

Also, he was explicitly told that me and my friend are vegetarian. Yet he let our vegetarian dishes (specified as such on the menu) come out with a chicken side dish (which wasn’t on the menu), without even telling us. Unfortunately, the chicken looked like other tofu in the dish, and we didn’t figure this out until I had eaten a bite of it.

He brought out our teas 20 minutes after our food came out, and they had become lukewarm. We never received any sort of apology, empathy, or even just common courtesy from him.

The ambiance is really lovely. The portions are huge. Some of the wait staff are really nice. BUT. The food we had was bland and they wouldn’t bring out any sort of soy/chili/etc. (and not in a cool, chefs’-experience way). All of our dishes came out at different times, though they aren’t sharing-style. My friend got hers at least 15 minutes after the first girl in our party got hers, again without any apology or acknowledgement. No modifications of any kind are ever allowed. And our waiter was seriously incompetent. Go just for tea. Or go somewhere else!

Amazing restaurant—I’ve been a loyal customer for over seven years, and it remains the best Japanese dining experience I’ve had in Colorado. The food, respect for Japanese culture, and commitment to fair pricing are truly commendable, and the ambience they provide adds to the authenticity and charm. One area that could use improvement is the service. While the younger staff are efficient, they sometimes come across as a bit disconnected from the guests, lacking the warmth that would elevate the experience even further. Despite this, it’s still a favorite spot that I highly recommend for anyone seeking quality Japanese cuisine.

Worth checking out Domo. The food was hearty, perfect for a winter evening. Also worth checking out the 'Jumbo Rolls' which were given to us on a separate menu. Just ask what's good or in season. Also recommend trying their ginger tea! Sweet with a solid ginger kick. There's also a nice garden outside for the summer months, and a small dojo/museum that are worth looking at.

Domo is an absolute gem! I started with the takoyaki, which was hands down the best I've ever had, followed by the unagi eel so fresh and served in a generous portion. The tonkatsu curry was rich and flavorful, but the real star of the night were the noodles. Perfectly prepared and absolutely delicious! The hibiscus tea was a delightful pairing and rounded out the meal beautifully. The atmosphere is warm and homey, making you feel like you're dining in a cozy Japanese countryside setting. The staff were incredibly welcoming and attentive, adding to the wonderful experience. I can't recommend Domo enough!!

In addition, the menu has a flat price, all meal options (not including appetizers) cost exactly $16.75, which is an amazing price for the generous portions and extremely high quality of the food. I haven't been this disappointed with a meal in a long time.

I ordered the Thai tea, Nabuyaki noodles, and my husband got the katsudon.

The Thai tea wasn't sweet or flavorful enough, and there was no condensed milk. The nabuyaki WAS NOT as pictured on the menu and did not contain dumplings. The broth was bland, noodles unsalted, and the pork was chewy, unseasoned, and super bland. It was as if they chucked a handful of frozen pork into boiling water.

The service was awkward and extremely unhelpful. My husband tried to change his order just a minute after ordering and he was told no. Not ONCE did they ask how the food was. I asked for salt and they didn't know how they could give me some salt...for some reason. It was so hard to get his attention and we ended up waiting super long periods for service.

I can't express how disappointed I am, we left pretty upset and hungry. Do not recommend.

Last time I ate at Domo's was well over 10years. The Domo Then and now are very different regarding menu variety.

It's a much simpler and less expensive menu. For 3 people ordering a variety of appetizers and a few main dishes it was very inexpensive. Including tax and tip $120.00

Overall we enjoyed ourselves in the "new" Domo's restaurant.

Great one of a kind atmosphere. We visited on a Sunday for dinner and it wasn't that busy which was nice. The food was good but not what we expected. The dipping noodles and ramen were spicy. It’s a shame what happened to Domo. What was once a hidden gem and then became one of the most popular restaurants in Denver is in a rough patch. The space remains amazing. The food is solid although not something to go out of your way for. It’s the lack of service that made tonight’s dinner a regret. I waited for over 5 minutes at the host stand before looking around to find someone to seat me in a nearly empty restaurant. 3-4 groups were piled up by that time. After that service was not terrible until my date’s main course came out before our appetizer. Then the appetizer came out. My date was nearly finished with her meal when I flagged a server to ask if my meal was coming. He checked and brought it out immediately so I presume it had been sitting there.

In summery, the food is ok, the price is fair, no alcohol is a mistake especially if you will be sitting for a while. I hope tonight was just a bad night for the restaurant but I will unlikely return in the near future.

I try to go to Domo whenever I am in Denver. It is even more beautiful and other-worldly than ever, the food is still
delicious, and the humanitarian work is steady and reliable. Domo is good for the body, the mind, and the spirit.
If you can’t relax here, you are in trouble.

We first visited Domo right before the Covid pandemic. It was such a memorable experience. We tell EVERYONE to go to Domo! We were so thrilled when they reopened. We were finally able to come down as a family and share this authentic experience and food. Service was extraordinary. We were attended to promptly and regularly while dining. Everything we ate was delicious and obviously prepared with care. TBH we were feeling a bit nervous that it wouldn’t be the same experience as our original visit years ago based on some negative reviews, but as a small restaurant owner I know how unreasonable people can be in reviews. I’m so glad we ignored the naysayers. We had a terrific time and meal at Domo!!

I don’t know what happened to this place, it used to be so special and now it feels depressing. I was excited to go as a birthday treat as I hadn’t been in 15 or so years. My mum who is 86 went to scope it out beforehand as the website said it was closed and any calls through went unanswered. She said it was quiet when she was there, lunchtime during the week. She was ignored and then the owner himself who was at the front was disrespectful and dismissive with her. Despite that foreboding we went and it’s very different now—cheap menus, drinks served ready-made in plastic cups with straws, hurried, unhappy waitstaff, though there were few diners. Our food was subpar, ill-presented without comment or care. My udon ramen was burn your tongue hot and flavourless, sides were greasy, and nothing tasted fresh or delicious. Each of us only ate a few bites that were hopeful and forced. We kept trying to have a good experience but it just wasn’t. The grounds are still cool and potentially beautiful but seem unloved and sad. The vibe was dystopian rather than tranquil with a broken tv glitching in and out sitting center in the dojo. I wouldn’t recommend. In reading other reviews it sounds like Covid and TikTok have been rough on Domo and I’m so sorry for that. Maybe it was just a bad day, bad timing, but I won’t be going back there anytime soon. 😕

They don’t have any gluten free food and the servers are completely clueless as to what’s going on and what’s on the menu. I went there with a group of eight people and at the end they notified us that we couldn’t pay with separate checks even though that’s not stated anywhere on the menu.
Also their website and menu is very out of date online. Everything on the lunch menu is $17 even though the website states things for $9.
At least the ambiance is nice

Domo is a local gem, seriously. You enter into traditional japanese building under a thatch awning, and into dimly-lit wood-floored restaurant. In the back is a sunny Japanese garden complete with a small museum dedicated to the history of the Aikido dojo and the restaurant. The food here is authentic: home-cooked meals with great flavors and no fancy frills. You pick a main course, and your sides are picked for you based on what they have in the kitchen. There are a variety of rice bowls, dipping udon dishes, and each comes with several sides including miso eggplant or miso soup or a cold beef and veggie dish. Our bill came out to $20/person and we left absolutely stuffed. The portions are huge.

The food is closer to what your obaasan would cook up, rather than a Michelin-star restaurant aimed at appeasing white tourists - and that's what makes it incredible and so unique for the Denver area. Reading reviews here on Google it's not surprising that many people had an issue with the presentation or the consistency of the food. But those claiming that it had no flavor, or that they couldn't even begin eating their meal likely didn't go into the experience with an open mind.

If you love traditional Japanese food - yes, eggs and flavors and consistencies and all - you're going to love Domo. But if your closest Japanese food experience is a teriyaki sandwich from Subway then you'll need to come with a hungry belly and an open mind. This is the closest you'll get to eating a home-cooked meal in Japan - enjoy it!

(Note that they do not do seperate checks)

The good:

The servers were wonderful and had a great attitude.

The atmosphere was like nothing I have seen before with a beautiful garden and a small waterfall that provided peaceful background noise.

The bad:

The food was insanely hot, and after reading other reviews I can assume that it was microwaved.

I ordered the chicken cutlet with udon noodles and some gyōza. The chicken/broth tasted freezer-burnt, and had a very chemical taste to it that made me assume they dont change their oil as often as they should. I couldn't finish it, and I felt very tired afterwards. (I wont order the chicken cutlet again) Although the Gyōza was fried in the same oil, it was much more palatable.

I couldn't get to the side dishes because the flies got to it first unfortunately. Due to the outdoor seating environment, I had to keep an eye on my food/drink from the flies like I was at a frat party.

The outdoor seating vibe with the garden was probably the best part of my experience. The food wasn't very good in my experience.

Great atmosphere, with tasteful displays of Japanese artifacts and a museum in the next room. Unfortunately it was blazing hot so we decided to sit inside instead of in the garden. The service was slightly slow, but we came with the understanding that this would be a more relaxed affair considering the chef's amazing story. The food is amazing and feels like you're sharing a meal in someone's house - made with love and care. Take your time, enjoy the food and sights!

Amazing food and atmosphere. I felt transported to the Akita region of Japan after passing through the front gate. It’s a really beautiful restaurant. We tried several things and they were all amazing. My only complaint is they do not serve alcohol, despite several sake bottles on display. Some sake would have been perfect for the slow atmosphere of the restaurant.

I do love Domo and how special a dining experience can be. The food was solid, but the service was non-existent. Apps served after entrees. I had to go to the kitchen to ask for water refills and again to get to go containers.

Prices weren’t bad, but the curry was 100% golden curry cubes (supermarket brand). You would hope that you’re getting some house made curry if they’re going to charge you $17.
The atmosphere is great, the food is good (not great), and you’re not going to have a bad time. If you’re not familiar with Japanese food, id say still go and enjoy it. If you have a more experienced Japanese palette, I wouldn’t go there looking for anything that wows you.

We waited 20 minutes before getting anyone to talk to us about orders after being seated and getting water from our waiter. After serving two tables of people who came in after us and seeing we hadn’t been served, a different waiter came up and asked if we had been served yet. When we said “no” they went to get our original waiter .

They gave us one entree and forgot about second one and we had to order again after searching for the waiter after 20 minutes passed from getting first entree and not seeing anyone.

Great atmosphere, but that doesn’t mean waiters should be complacent. I really wanted to give this place a 5, but service was bad after a couple of times

You will not find a more immersive Japanese dining experience in Denver than Domo. The atmosphere of this restaurant is beyond amazing, and the food was delicious. We arrived shortly after 5pm on a Saturday in August and were seated immediately. Our meals arrived in a timely fashion, and after we finished we took some time to walk around the beautiful garden / Nippon Kan area. It was a 10/10 experience, and the only thing preventing it from being an 11/10 was the lack of alcohol and dessert. Looking forward to coming back!

I've heard so many good things about this spot and really wanted to love it. Ouf, the service was akward an unhelpful. We weren't greeted with waters or place settings until we'd been seated for 20 mins. We asked about the veggie and was told it was "chef's choice" with no details. They just surprise you with it at the table. The food was the worst I've had in Denver, it was so flavorless, the texture of the meat was gross and I was embarrassed that I'd invited my friend here with me to dine! The location is so unique, I just don't understand how our experience unfolded in the way that it did. I really thought we were getting punked by Ashton Kutcher.... the food shown in the photos is what we left at the table because we couldn’t get ourselves to eat anymore of it.

Domo is a delicious escape into the Japanese countryside. I went with 2 friends - our meal was 2 appetizers and then an entreé each.

The unagi filet was to die for. Amazing salmon donburi as well.

As far as the ambiance - we dined outside. There is limited shade, but the garden area is very pretty!

Overall it's somewhere I could recommend for a date, a meet up with friends, or a family meal.

I hate to leave a negative review, but this place gave me one of the worst experiences I’ve had.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Domo Japanese Country Food Restaurant in Denver, and I must say it was a truly delightful experience. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted by the warm and welcoming atmosphere that instantly transported me to the serene countryside of Japan.

The food at Domo is unlike any other Japanese restaurant I have been to. It is authentically country-side Japanese, with a focus on fresh, high-quality ingredients prepared with traditional techniques. The flavors were bold and nuanced, and each dish was a work of art in itself.

I particularly enjoyed the variety of dishes on offer, from the savory ramen dishes to the delicate appetizers platters. The seafood was incredibly fresh, and the meats were cooked to perfection. I also appreciated the attention to detail in the presentation of each dish, as it really added to the overall dining experience.

Overall, Domo Japanese Country Food Restaurant is a must-visit for anyone looking to experience the true taste of Japan in Denver. Whether you are a seasoned sushi lover or new to Japanese cuisine, Domo is sure to impress with its delicious and authentic dishes. I cannot wait to return and try more of their offerings.

Domo Japanese Country Food is an absolute gem! From the moment we walked in, we were transported to a traditional Japanese countryside setting. The attention to detail in the decor, with rustic wooden elements and serene garden views, creates a cozy and authentic dining atmosphere.

The food is simply outstanding. Every dish we tried was bursting with flavor and clearly made with the freshest ingredients. A standout was the okoge—crispy, golden rice that was both delicious and comforting, perfectly capturing the essence of traditional Japanese home cooking, just like what I experienced in Japan.

The seating in general was good, but they sat us on the worst table in the house even though other tables were available. We sat in front of a wall, and the waitress rarely checked in with us. I asked for a straw three times before I finally got one. No plates were provided for both of us. It was steaming hot inside, and we couldn’t sit outside because it was raining. The least you can do is open air conditioning for your customers. At the time of payment, we were almost charged an extra $10 because someone added orders to our bill, but thankfully we caught it before we were charged. It took the waitress 10 minutes before she brought back our credit card.

The food was okay, nothing special to be honest. We ordered Shumai and Salmon Curry. The Shumai was 3/5, and the curry was 2.5/5. The plate was a bit messy in its presentation, and the curry sauce dominated most of the plate as if it was a soup with rice on the side.

The restaurant vibe is great, the outside seating is probably fantastic if it wasn’t raining, but we had an unfortunate experience.

The atomsphere is breath taking. Food presentation is amazing and the food was flavorful. I will definitely be coming back.

Keep an open mind when you go here. The table service here almost replicates how most Asian country provides table service. They will try to interrupt your time there as little as they can. Dont expect water being refilled every 5 min and getting ask "is everything ok?" Every 15 minutes. It is rude to interrupt someone eating in Asian culture and they will practice that philosophy here. Request for service, it is not rude. Also, dont take it offensive when they bring your check even before you finish your food.

The okoge rice is made in the morning and stashed under the counter where servers make drinks. The sides are made in the morning and sit out in room temp all day. The fried cutlets are made in the morning then microwaved when needed. The unagi is microwaved.

All the appetizers come in frozen and are just fried or reheated, or in the case of fish, just thawed.

Bowls for miso soup sit there all day with the tofu and seaweed just sitting in the bowl until the soup is added right before bringing it to your table.

The kitchen is too small. Most of what you're eating has been sitting out and then microwaved when ordered.

Takoyaki was doughy and undercooked. We sat outside, and it smelled like something died behind the restaurant. The service was terrible. We were served warm water in a dirty metal cup, and there was clearly some oily film on top. We ordered drinks, appetizers and entrées. There were 4 of us. Less than 5 minutes after ordering, the foodrunner came over with a single Unagi don. There was nobody following with the rest of the entrées we ordered, so I explained to him there is no way that is for our table. Why bring out one dish at a time? We hadn't even received our drinks yet. I told him to take it back because we wanted to eat appetizers first, but the poor guy looked confused and didn't speak English. We paid with cash and some guy with a ponytail who works there but was not our server, picked up the check, and didn't even say thank you. This place used to be amazing, but they streamlined the menu and took away what made them famous in the first place. I will never go back. We spent $120 and I left a 20% tip because I have been a server for 15 years. TEACH YOUR STAFF TO SAY THANK YOU.

Had an excellent lunch at Domo on a recent Friday. We arrived around 12:20 and there was no wait. By the time we left, there was a short wait to be seated. I’m so happy this place opened again as I think it’s one of Denver’s most unique restaurants. I ordered the Jumbo Eel dish and my partner had the Gattsuri Okoge with beef. Portions were large, the side dishes were great (soba noodles with cabbage and a plate of pickled vegetables), and drinks (ginger tea and hibiscus tea) were both delicious. Be sure to spend some time walking around the garden and check out the museum and dojo as well. I hope to make another visit again soon!
