A different kind of Experience
We didn't have a reservation so we were offered the sushi bar or the patio, we chose the patio. It wasn't huge so we were able to have a more intimate secluded date night then if we'd stay inside with all the tables and booths. It started to rain and we were able to open up the giant table umbrellas, and the walls of the patio are tall privacy fence-like so there weren't insane cold winds. The menu is extensive and there is a full bar, along with wines and sake. The food was amazing, and the wait staff took the time to explain everything. They brought us water and miso soup before we ordered, along with cloth napkins and chopsticks. We ordered some Long Island ice tea drinks, which were definitely strong and delicious. The staff isn't intrusive, and we stayed for about an hour and a half just relaxing and talking. Definitely a cute date night spot!

Great service and great food. I tried this place a few years back, and it was nowhere near as good as it was this time. We sat on the patio on a perfect day for doing so. Service was attentive and friendly. The miso soup is very good. The spicy gyoza ramen is deliciously spicy and full of enough ingredients for two. Our sushi roll was perfectly fresh and loaded with flavor. I'm glad I gave this place a second chance!

Alas, I had to give a true rating ... 100 stars! Our server, Gina, was so sweet, personable, and attentive! They start you off with hot hand towels (wish every restaurant did this!!) and complementary Miso soup, which I always start with at sushi restaurants so I was stoked to be treated with this right out of the gate. My first impression was a nice place, but our server seated us in the back of the restaurant by the fire door. It was freezing by the door because the owner will not fix the seal on the bottom of the door, they shoved towels to stop the cold air from coming in. It obviously failed and even the heater couldn't keep up. It was freezing, so I asked for another table, she said all of the other empty tables were not available. I did see reserved tags on the booths by the bar. She was upset that I asked for another table, so she sent another server who I asked if I could move tables, she said of course all these tables are opened. So I was confused since the earlier server said no. So I move one table over. It was better, but still cold. Our server was amazing and the food was delicious. It was the cold atmosphere that ruined it. The front of the restaurant was warmer. You can't enjoy a meal when it's freezing by that rear door. I don't understand why it wasn't fixed? I will definitely not be back, especially since I drove 100 miles and my friend who recommended it was with me. I guess you have to make reservations for the better seats and not be seated in the freezing ones. As I see the owners responses, it let's me know that he doesn't care or responds rudely. I can't support a business that attacks anyone who writes a negative review. Smh.

We had a variety if sushi dishes. A+ for presentation and the food was good, but felt a bit overpriced for the portion size. We enjoyed the ambiance as well. Our waitress was nice but it took our food a while to come out. We were there for about an hour before our mains came. That could have been because of a couple really large sushi platter orders that were ahead of us. Not sure. I would definitely give it another chance.
Gluten free options were clearly marked on the menu, which I appreciated!

This place is out of this world good! I haven't had dumplings this good since I went to San Francisco. BEST dumplings in El Paso county. We will be back again and again. My spouse also wanted me to add that their octopus sushi was outstanding! Great food, great service, great atmosphere! Thank you Dozo!

I've been here numerous times, and I keep going back. Without a doubt the best sushi I've found in town. The food is excellent, it comes out quickly and is presented well, orders are always accurate, and the prices are quite fair considering the quality.
The service is also excellent, always. The warm hand towels at the beginning set the mood and they feel so good on a chilly night.
Last time in the restaurant it was pretty cold inside. There has also been a constant HVAC fan problem, where the fan produces an audible low frequency reverberation all of the time, which can be a bit annoying.

Honestly I donβt know if it was my taste buds or not but this has been the worst sushi place Iβve been to. And sushi is one of my favorite foods Iβve never hated the sushi from somewhere till here.

I hesitate to write this because I donβt want it to be so busy I canβt get in anymore but this is the best sushi in town! Best presented, great service, always tastes fresh and amazing and not covered in mayo or deep fried like other places. Love this place

Dozo Sushi and Bar in Colorado Springs offers a taste of Japan from their bento boxes to chirashi bowls to nigiri and sushi, as well as a full bar.
Dozo is located on 8th street near a car wash and can easily be spotted from the main road. Be careful walking toward the restaurant as there are little potholes and uneven pavement.
As someone visiting Colorado Springs, I was really excited to eat something that tasted like I was back home. I enjoyed the ambiance and the staff that welcomed and served us - I believe her name was Esther. I especially loved the presentation of the hand rolls, sushi, and nigiri that we ordered. I took note of what made the wooden board with our orders placed on top look so beautiful: parsley with babyβs breath, sliced oranges, blueberries, and raspberries added visual interest and a pop of color.
What we ordered:
* Sake (Salmon) Nigiri
* Hamachi (Yellowtail) Nigiri
* Ebi (Shrimp) Nigiri
* Spicy Tuna Roll
* Salmon Skin Hand Roll (off-menu)
* Tornado Roll
* Rock N Roll
* Veggie Tempura
Everything was fresh and delicious. And the cuts of fish were perfect. I liked how the tempura roll was slightly battered. It gave the sushi roll enough crunch without overpowering it with batter.
They do have a full bar at Dozo, as well as TV around the restaurant.
Overall, you are paying for high quality food, high quality service, and high quality presentation! Thank you, Dozo Sushi and Bar, for providing me with one of my best meals in Colorado Springs!

Absolutely amazing sushi, vegetable tempura, fried rice, and wontons~! Have been here twice now and it has not disappointed nor even come close~! The DOZO roll was an absolute banger but the lemon roll is where the real party is at~! The service from the hot towels to start and friendly staff make this an all around great dining experience~!

(I could have swore I had a review up for this place...?)
Love this spot. Food feels consistently decently high quality. The presentation is always attractive, and I like the fruit that comes with the dish. The Russian Roulette roll is a super fun experience for the brave. And while they have many delicious rolls The rest of the menu has many good options as well, and the special rolls are also worth exploring.
Jasmine tea was nice loose leaf tea with a lovely flavor that comes in a real tea pot.
The decor is not high end, but you could bring a date here.
I do wish they didn't serve their miso in plastic bowls with plastic spoonsβwhich, to be fair, is something that is done at most mid grade sushi restaurants. But with all the evidence on plastics coming out these days, I refuse to have hot liquids in plastic containers anymore.
Service is consistently good.

Bring back the spicy tuna roll on the sushi combo. If a person requests the spicy tuna roll give it to them. Or, stop suggesting an 18% tip. Nobody gets to complain about how a spicy tuna roll is too spicy and then everyone else doesnβt get the option to have a spicy tuna roll. βWe donβt do the spicy tuna roll anymore.β said nobody ever. Absolutely ridiculous. Next thing on the menu will be hamburgers at this rate. If you donβt like spicy donβt order the spicy tuna roll. Get the shoot dang California roll. And throw away the wooden plates. Itβs gross. Serve food on trees like we havenβt perfected ceramics already.

Iβm a harsh critic because I lived by the ocean for 12 years and always had access to fresh fish and good sushi. Also was a pescatarian for a long time. This place is simple, fresh, and good value. They always serve miso soup w their dish and the sushi is tasty. Never fishy tasting. Is it the best Iβve ever had? No but I think overall this is the best sushi restaurant in Colorado Springs for sure.

my review:
i love the chicken teriyaki n gyoza served at dozo. admittedly, iβve been here about 3 times now n each time i have only received positive service n absolutely delicious food. my chicken was amazing, the white rice is, well itβs white rice(ask for a side of teriyaki n throw it into the rice), i had no experience w the salad bc my wife ate mine. the gyoza was so mf good, i took one bite n realized iβve never had their gyoza bc itβs seriously the best gyoza in the springs.

Nice quiet clean location. Miso soup is one of the better ones I have had, the house salads dressing is delicious! I like the little towels they give you to wash your hands before the food arrives. The spicy tuna is really spicy so beware. We typically order spicy tuna rolls with no issue but these were beyond spicy. Got some nigiri as well. The fish was not the best, probably won't be back. Everyone was friendly.

My family and I ate dinner here to celebrate my daughter's birthday. Our wait was short, but I do believe that we were there about 2 hours from closing. The entry, with its small library and sitting area, was really neat! Our server was incredible and set the standard for what service should be. She was attentive but not hovering, with a wonderful spirit and smile that seemed to brighten up the room. She was warm and friendly with everyone and had an extra special rapport with our little one. Our order was correct, beautifully presented, and, most importantly, delicious! I was very impressed with the large collection of knives that are presented on the wall behind the sushi chefs and their attention to detail with their nigiri presentation (fish to rice ratio, the rice didn't crumble when picked up, the scoring of certain fish). Dozo is easily our new top sushi spot in Colorado Springs!

I've been there twice. First time was good, i just had a quick lunch to "test" the place. Second time was not so marvelous. The waiter spilled miso soup on the table (it even got on my jeans). That happens, i understand. But he didn't even flinch, didn't apologize, had some tissue to kinda wipe it (still with a puddle of misu on the table), and left. came back with water, and i had to ask him for some paper towels to clean the table. I..cleaned.. the mess.
But the food was good, the presentation and flavor.

My wife and I both love this place and have eaten here quite a few times. By far the best sushi restaurant we've been to in town. We both grew up on the West Coast, so we're usually picky when it comes to Asian food, but we've yet to be disappointed by Dozo. We even had to wait for an extended period of time once, even with a reservation, and they comped each of our drinks for that night.

I went here during a vacation trip and let me tell you this place is among the best places I tried in my life. Here is why this place stands amazingππ€©
1. Great customer service team and great manager who knows how to lead
2. The food is incredibleπ² kudos to the amazing chef made food into an art π¨ which the eyes are to behold
3. The atmosphere π is amazing, and I feel very welcomed
So, to the manager who read this post, keep being authentic and defend this business. Your business is your castle π° and a strong castle will not fall.
Ignore the dumb 1-star reviews and keep calling them out for their ignorance because only you know you did an amazing job, not no petty upset review, because they did not receive an extra ice cube in their free water worst yet a grain of rice is missing from the sushi platter. See all petty crap that needs to be called out for being stupid.
You are appreciated πππ₯³
And you staff because you a chill boss who want your staff the best health and mental wellness and to work in a comfortable environment which any manager who don't know to manage needs to take notes on.

Beautiful plating, great fish quality and exceptional service. From the kind staff that made my kid chopstick helpers, to the attentiveness of our waitress, to finally finding a sushi spot that focuses and highlights the seafood! And even more exciting for me, their takoyaki is DELICIOUS. I appreciate how all our rolls were so fresh and clean and none of them were drowned in sauce like so many other places in town. 10/10 and 100% our new go to spot for sashimi fixes!

Iβve read all the owners responses to the negative reviews based on a TikTok comment I saw. I had a marvelous time reading all of them, but I noticed that quite a bit of people left 1 star reviews without ever dining at the place, so I thought I would do the same to negate at least one of them. If Iβm ever in CO, best believe this is the first place Iβm coming to. Owner is a hoot and being that I have worked in the restaurant industry myself, I can stand by the fact that the customer is not always right. :D

The food was really good, we got the sunset roll and it was very good. The atmosphere was nice and the staff was friendly and attentive. The plating of the food was very nice too. Also a little library in the restaurant.

The restaurant is very bus; consequently the sushi is always extremely fresh. Excellent service. If you are a sushi enthusiast, Dozo is a must try. It will not disappoint.

This place is the only sushi I will eat in Colorado. Itβs the absolute best. It is 10/10 every single time we go and Iβm constantly raving about it online when people ask for recommendations for sushi restaurants.
Pricing is reasonable for the taste and quality. Being from Alaska and having access to fresh fish my whole life, I donβt feel like Iβm in a land-locked sushi bar at all. Itβs DIVINE!

This is my absolute favorite sushi restaurant in Colorado Springs, hands down. The quality and options available are second to none, and they offer freshly-grated wasabiβlike, the REAL stuff, not the horseradish knockoff.
Iβve come in pretty much only on Friday or Saturday evenings, so theyβre usually pretty busy, but the food is absolutely worth the wait and the customer service is fantastic. The cocktails are also strong, which is never a bad thing.
Also, the owner responses to the 1-star reviews have me cackling. Working in the service industry ainβt easy, especially these days with the rise of ultra-Karens. Love to see a place that stands up for their team.

This place serves up some good Japanese cuisine. We had the Sunset roll, udon noodles, and chicken katsu. Katsu is not on the menu, but they will make it. A little secret. The katsu was spot on and the roll was pretty tasty. Gotta watch out for the wasabi - it's got a kick. I would recommend.

We have tried a lot of sushi places in Colorado Springs and this is definitely the best. Very good grade of fish and I am very picky as I live in SoCal. On the weekends they have specialty fish like otoro. The ramen and poke were also very good.

Love the owner! Wish I lived closer because I would frequent this restaurant! Youβve got to read his responses to the Nancys that left negative reviews!! What a gem! :). Thanks for the belly laugh!

I came because of the ownerβs hilarious responses to one star reviews and found my new favorite sushi restaurant in Colorado Springs. I spent 4 years in Japan so Iβm a bit of a sushi snob. This place is excellent! Big pieces of very fresh fish in every roll, and the presentation was really well done. The prices were extremely reasonable and the atmosphere felt like a much more expensive experience. Without a doubt, the best sushi Iβve had in Colorado.

By far, the best sushi bar in Colorado Springs!

Just OK IMO and be prepared with a sneaky PIF. Sushi presentation and food was good but three things turned me off where I won't be going back.
1. The most awful smell coming from the restrooms
2. A 3.25% PIF tagged on to the bill. Last I checked Dozo ran out of a somewhat rundown strip mall - not sure where the PIF is going. (certainly not the restrooms)
3. Server tells us after ordering, 'By the way, we are out of ginger, sorry'
Meh....

Great atmosphere, customer service, and food. They have vegan options. The vegan steak plate. Just let them know, no egg.

I loved the food and environment at Dozo. I respect the fact that they quickly corrected any and everything I ever addressed. The sashimi was truly perfection. The beef was so tender and wonderfully spiced I plan to bring all my friends to try it. This place has become one of my favorites in only 2 visits, i would definitely suggest visiting this Japanese restaurant.

I live no where near here, but if Im ever in CO ill stop by, just because of the owners responses! I respect the hell outta him for standing up to these folx who hide behind a keyboard instead of trying to resolve the issue in person. Good for you dude, I hope your business continues to thrive!

New Zealand here. Coming to the States to eat here specifically because the review responses are gold. If youre unhappy speak to management, don't go home and slam a business with your whinge and whine comments.

The willingness of this owner to defend their restaurant from sniper reviews is awesome. As someone who worked in the service industry, it is refreshing to see someone say what we really think. I am allergic to most seafood but would at least give this place a try solely based on this.
The key to good sushi is its freshness. To see them willing to close early rather than compromises the quality and safety of their product, is a rare mark of quality and pride in their product.
Hats off to the owner of this place for valuing the quality of the restaurant and defending their servers from review bombing.
