*NEW MANAGEMENT SINCE 11/1/2024*
A family-owned Japanese restaurant that specializes in Sushi and Teriyaki. With 20+ years of experience, we are excited to open our own restaurant to express our take on Japanese cuisine.
I've been coming to Kohnami for nearly 20 years. Now living abroad, I can only visit once a year during the holiday season, I was really surprised to learn from the staff today that there is new ownership. We joked with our waiter that they have some big shoes to fill. Lol :) And the sushi was awesome! They kept our favorites - The Great Coveted Snow White roll and the crispy Salmon Skin roll! Thank you for the great evening and looking forward to the next 20 years with the new staff.

This is my favorite shushi spot in town. The boys ordered a good amount and they gave us a boat. This fully delighted them!!! And as you know it's the little things. They even went out on a limb and tried the octopus. The sushi here is the freshest in town hands down. And the service is always second to none. Add in a chill atmosphere and little wait for one of their tables and this is the spot.

Me and my wife found this place a year ago when we came to Colorado Springs for our honeymoon, and at first we couldn’t find this place. It’s small and tucked away in a shopping center and not immediately visible from the road.
Man are we glad we found this little slice of heaven, we were first treated with a hot bowl of Miso Soup and it was absolutely delicious, it was me and my wife’s first time ever having Miso and we became big fans afterwards.
Then we got our sushi order and my goodness we were overwhelmed by how delicious the food was. We are huge connoisseurs of sushi and this place the best sushi we had ever had.
Jump ahead a year later, because of work and a new job my wife and I now live in Colorado Springs and we live 10 minutes from Kohnami Sushi and of course we had to go there the minute we moved in to our new home, it has changed ownership according to employees, but you would never know because food is still as delicious as it was when we first came here a year earlier. We even tried the cream cheese wontons recently and they were delicious.
This is going to be our new end of the week spot going forward and I highly recommend this place of your looking for some excellent sushi

Some of the best sushi you can find anywhere, and their ramen game is great too. Their special rolls are creatively presented and equally delicious. It's a cozy spot, with French-style seating. Best to reserve in advance, especially for groups of 3+.

Charming local restaurant with warm, kind hospitality and great sushi. Generous portions. Seared tuna served with 21-piece sashimi dinner was incredible. Red snapper was melt in your mouth (it's usually rubbery elsewhere). We had visited here a few times before the restaurant changed ownership, and we appreciate the great job the new owners are doing. We will be back!

Great sushi restaurant tucked between Briargate & Union. The staff were very hospitable/polite, the place was neat, and the food was banger. Price-wise it's comparable to Bento Heaven downtown, but the servings are a bit larger and the quality is higher. I really enjoyed the café motif out front. I spent a little more, but you could easily get out on about $15-$20/person here if you're just getting entrees/appetizers. The pictures attached don't do the place justice since it took me about an hour to get home. If you're ever out shopping at the Sam's Club nearby you should give this place a visit since it's right up the street if you're heading East on Woodmen.
The Katsu bowl was tender and the tempura vegetables (not pictured) were nice and fresh/crisp. I don't think I've seen such large chunks of eel in an unagi roll anywhere else in town. If I had any minor complaints it's that I wanted more green onions/rice, but the food was fantastic and the portions were good.

Delicious little place!!! There's only 5 tables and I'm glad we got 1 of them. Our waiter was the best waiter I've had in a long time. He was attentive and kind. Our 3 year old got the shrimp fried rice and had nothing but great things to say 😂 I got the Mongolian beef bowl and a my husband got sushi. It was all amazing.

I didn’t know today was a Grand opening.. it was empty when I got there but shortly it became a full house. I fall in love this place already. The best sushi chief I found in a long time. Just let you know I only live here nearly a half of the century.

I have been coming here for years with my family, and I have never had a negative experience. Any and all experiences here that my family and I have had, has been some of the most amazing service, incredible sushi, and fantastic ramen. This is my go to birthday spot for dinner! I highly recommend eating here, especially when it is warm, as their outside seating is wonderful. The indoor seating is just as amazing

Not sure who’s stocking this place, but they need to do better. Called 25 minutes after they opened to order lunch… nothing crazy, just a Philadelphia roll. They said they’re out of one of the rolls ingredients, would I like the roll without it? It’s been less than a half hour since you opened for the day…. Get your life together.

Excellent service, great food, the wait staff was great in facilitating for our baby daughter, bringing out a small bowl of miso soup for her. The atmosphere and the selection of food and drinks was outstanding, probably one of the most authentic restaurants in the city.

This ain't it. Ordered togo/pickup over the phone. First red flag was the phone rang forever before anyone picked up, and once they did they said 'they couldn't hear me' after I said I wanted to place an order. I stupidly called back. Placed my order, was told it would be ready in 45 mins...its Saturday so sure? Arrive 45 mins later and they look confused that I'm there to pick up an order? (Like maybe if we told them 45 mins they won't show up anyways...) Get told that it will be another 15 mins, you can go ahead and pay, and your miso soup is on the house. No receipt provided. After another 45 mins wait (and what I can only hope was my order being given to another togo pickup for how long this was taking now) I was finally given my order. Sushi is not worth the time/money/effort it took to aquire. Would much rather go somewhere that the guests feel welcome.

Very quaint, hole in the wall. A few tables, mainly caters to ordering take out. The owner is beautiful and dressed as a Geisha, she has one assistant for help. Service was slow with the demand.
Warm in the restaurant, sushi was fresh. Salmon, yellowtail, tuna delicious. Squid salad was a unique interpretation.

Gem that’s in the cut! Definitely some of the freshest sushi I’ve had in Colorado Springs. They gave us soup (miso) and salad with our selection of sushi. I also had the plum sake (very warm delicious) which went well with my meal came down super smooth! Definitely will be back again for another bite.

Thank you Kohnami Sushi! Your sushi was very well rolled and tastes delicious. You used the right amount of rice, the fish tastes fresh, and even in a to-go plate, you were diligent about presentation. I am looking forward to coming back with my family.

We live in old Colorado city so we stumbled upon Kohnami by chance this past Saturday while up north. What a delightful hidden gem! They have about 8 or 9 tables and the restaurant was about half filled when we arrived. They had a little fire going on the TV which nice and cozy ^_^
I saw some other reviews mention service but our service was fantastic! Our miso and salads were delivered timely and our food was out almost right after we finished the salad.
We took a lot of time ordering because they have a lot of special rolls and we were intrigued by so many! We ended up with nigiri (salmon and tuna), tuna and avocado (this wasn’t on the menu but they made it for us) and the Pikes Peak deep fries roll.
The salmon nigiri was my favorite bite of the night and delicious and I wish we had ordered 2! The pikes peak was good - flavor + sauces +fried texture was really good - a little difficult to eat the last piece because it was so big but we made it through! 😂
The avocado in the tuna and avocado was creamy and perfect texture against the tuna.
All in all we would absolutely return. The table next to us got the sashimi platter brought out just as we were leaving and it was so beautifully presented! We will absolutely be getting that next time

Kohnami Sushi, a hidden gem in Colorado Springs, boasts an intimate cafe-like dining room accommodating a cozy twenty patrons at maximum capacity, ensuring a delightful and personalized dining experience. Renowned for serving the freshest and highest quality sushi in the city, this establishment combines culinary excellence with an inviting ambiance.
The dining atmosphere is enhanced by the mellow and unobtrusive music, allowing for easy conversation. During our last visit, the playlist featured bossa nova lounge renditions of 80s hits, creating a nostalgic and laid-back vibe. A standout feature is the ever-evolving menu, showcasing the chef's inventive specialty rolls, a testament to the restaurant's commitment to both innovation and taste.
A pleasant surprise awaits patrons upon arrival as Kohnami graciously presents complimentary miso soup and a house salad, adding an extra layer of hospitality to the dining experience. Perhaps most impressive is the affordability of this top-tier culinary journey, with bills proving to be a fraction of the cost compared to other high-end sushi establishments in the Springs.
Without a doubt, Kohnami has secured its place as the number one sushi spot in the area and has swiftly become our favored dining destination. Be sure to check the operating hours, as some days lunch service begins at 2 pm, making it well worth the wait for a delightful midday indulgence. Treat yourself to an exceptional dining experience at Kohnami Sushi – an exquisite blend of quality, innovation, and affordability.

This place is fantastic and by far the best sushi I’ve had in CO. I’m from the east coast/NYC area where sushi places are everywhere and most are top tier; but this is right up there w the best I’ve tried. And I’ve tried many! Delicious, fresh, and worth going to for sure.

The food was amazing. We got a spicy roll, 2 crunch rolls, tigers eye roll, tuna and mackerel ngiri, chicken ramen and beef bulgogi. The Bulgogi texture was perfect. The chicken ramen had some different vegetables than I am used too but the flavor was amazing. The kids age 3-9 demolished the sushi and asked for more! My husband said his sushi was also very good. The prices weren't horrible for 6 of us with 6 meals and 6 drinks it was under $120 after tip. Not too shabby for all of that food! The lady that served us was very nice and kept complimenting the kids which they loved. Thank you so much for the good food! Sorry no pictures we were too busy enjoying it.

Kohnami sushi is a very soft spoken speak easy sushi place in Colorado Springs. I came here to eat with my darling wife early evening from 4-6pm on a Saturday; We had the place to ourselves. The dishwear that was used is very cute and dainty. It felt like home in there. The food was absolutely amazing. We order the fried beef goyza, (will try the steamed next) the chicken teriyaki, Snow White roll, spicy California roll, & the spicy girl roll. All rolls we delicious and filling. I have never had a sushi roll such as the Snow White Roll & my goodness was it great. The best part was that nothing here was over salted. Very authentic food. 5/5 Review from a fellow old food critic from Chicago that will be visiting Kohnami sushi again to eventually try everything that is on their menus.

Over an hour wait, no food. I cannot comment on food quality as we simply never got it. Went there on a Friday night, the place was not busy at all but they took their sweet time to do whatever they were doing. The servers seemed to be completely lost and purposefully ignored eye contact, no notice or updates were given on the timing of the food. Once we ran out of patience and asked how much longer it was going to take, they said we could leave.

Ordered the bulgogi for take out tonight, but I've been in to get sushi and sashimi on a few occasions prior. Food is always fantastic and the service is on spot. It's a nice small little shop that doesn't seat too many, which gives it a nice, quaint feel. Definitely suggest a visit.

Wonderful. Went here for a date night 30 mins before they closed when it was slow and they happily let us relax and stay was long as we wanted. Ramen was hot and fresh (2 different types—dumpling spicy and chicken with veggies). Very good broth and came out piping hot. We got the dragon roll as well and the presentation was 10/10 and the flavor and texture probably 7-8/10. The restaurant itself has a very cute and quaint atmosphere we really enjoyed. Will definitely be back!

Wow wow wow. The best sushi in the springs imo. First, PULL the gate to open it. Yes I know it says that on the gate but I still missed that and almost walked into the pizza shop... The selection of nigiri and sashimi is limited but the quality makes up for that. The vibe is a cozy retro and they have a great selection of Asian drinks. We are so happy to have found this gem! Will be back.

The sushi and apps (get the shrimp shumai!) were so good, I’m giving 5 stars. The place is pretty small, but it wasn’t super busy, so we easily got a table on the outside patio, which was nice. The service was mediocre at best. The Volcano roll was amazing.

Hands down some of the best sushi I’ve ever had. Fluffy rice, (none of that compact mashed potato rice texture here) deliciously tender fish, natural ginger, and beautiful plating makes this place an instant must-go for sushi lovers. We got a few nigiri options as well as the cherry blossom roll (my spouse already ate a couple before I could snap this pic lol). Atmosphere was very hole-in-the-wall, but as someone who also loves bbq, that’s exactly where you want to go for the good stuff. Will absolutely be coming back.

If you're picking up a delivery order from this restaurant. I would suggest not accepting or canceling right away. They have a habit of changing the pick app time after the order is accepted. I have never waited less than 20 minutes for an order from them. Most the time, it's longer than 30 minutes. Not very kind, very rude. All around a horrible restaurant.

This place serves the highest-quality sushi. The freshness and quality of the fish was unquestionable. You can tell that the owner takes extra time to choose the freshest fish and is reflected in the sushi because it did not taste fishy at all. The restaurant was small and intimate. When you walk into the restaurant, you feel like you are in a private sushi house. My family and I enjoyed our experience at Kohnami Sushi :)

This place is owned by husband and wife. The food is authentic, delicious, great quality fish. Although may take a bit more time for the food to be made, its because the husband takes his time preparing each dish with love and precision. Amazing food! This place has THE BEST SUSHI we have ever had. Fresh, tightly wrapped rolls and larger pieces than other places. Presentation was very pretty.
We also ordered 3 dinners that were prepared to perfection and all our dinners came with delicious miso soup and salad. Portion sizes are large and very filling.
Other places are Americanized Japanese but this was the real deal and you can tell the difference!!
The dining area is very small and casual, not fancy in the slightest but the food and service made it a very special dining experience.
We didn’t have any but they also have a fairly large wine and drink selection.

Ill start this off that taste is subjective and relative but Kohnami is my go-to sushi restuarant. I've tried at least 4 places in the springs and multiple in Madison WI when I lived there. I would recommend everyone to check this place out.
My signature order is spicy cali crab roll, snow white roll, and Mr crabs appetizer.
5 Star for Kohnami, never let's me down and if there are mistakes they make it up to you.

Picked up food for my wife's surprise birthday celebration. We order 5 different "California style Rolls" and 3 different sashimi's. My family was so happy with the flavors, freshness, and selection. I read most of the reviews and most of them say the food is great--it is! This is the best Sushi and sashimi we have eaten in Colorado. The Spicy Crunch California Roll and spicy tuna roll were top notch. The salmon sashimi is as fresh as we've ever had including San Francisco and Vancouver. The food is beautifully presented and extremely tasty. Most of the negative reviews have to do with the speed of service. Come here for your date night...don't schedule 30 minutes to eat here just to go do something else after---make this be your date. If you are in a hurry, don't go here--go to a fast food place! You can't rush an incredible food artist like they have working here!

The sushi is good, but everything about the service is slow. I've been here three times and it always takes 2 hours to complete a meal. Not because it's busy and full of people. Two other tables of people and one takeout order on a Tuesday at 7 pm.

Honestly? Excellent food! Don't come if you're in a rush or you get hangry after a while. You will need patience. Because this cute local small business is SMALL and spends the time to produce quality food, you unfortunately have to sacrifice your wait time. Despite that, I still give five stars because the atmosphere is so intimate, romantic, and adorable. The sushi is also delectable (monkey business is my favorite). It's a lovely hole in the wall place my fiancé and I come to on special occasions.

A nice little restaurant tucked in Union and Briagate Blvd. It has every potential to be a typical Japanese's sushiten you would find in Tokyo, except when you examine a little more, the restaurant is appealing to more Western aesthetic and palate.
I asked the sushi chef (Itamae), and was told Kohnami means little wave; in contrast to tsunami, a harbor wave. Nice little chat, I thought.
Food was great and priced very reasonably. I loved the "Monkey Business" roll. LIKE the quiet music in the background. Very ideal to have quiet time with some sushi and enjoy a glass of sake or green tea away for some evenings.

What a wonderful, peaceful and eccentric location. Filled with soft vibe music and a selection of beverages to wet any palette. There are always a selection of rolls on special, to make every visit an absolute treat! Perfect pricing and portions.

Good food

We tried Kohnami on a whim. We had been to another popular sushi restaurant and walked out after watching other diners served before us, even though they came in after we were seated.
We were pleasantly surprised by the service here and in the quality of the food. I can't say the waiter was all that attentive, but we weren't ignored and he timed the drinks, soup, and salad so we didn't feel as though we were waiting too long for the main course.
The food is good and there was enough to make you feel the price was reasonable.
I will go back!

This was a drop-in experience and a great find. The sushi was excellent, well priced and rapidly served. We'll be back.

Worse place ever don’t waste your time!

The food was pretty great actually. The service, not as much. It was our first time and it was the afternoon so it may be different at other times but the high-school "waiter" was way more interested in his phone than anything else and didn't even take a drink order until we had been sitting about 10 minutes. We were, literally, the only people in the place. Then not having a traditional sushi ordering system of a list that can write your order on really put me off. They told me people complained about having to write their order down 🙄. Overall, great sushi and appetizer but iffy experience, will try again.

The food was absolutely divine. My son won't stop talking about the chicken ramen. My sushi was delicious. My in-laws got the love boat and loved it. My only suggestion is to be prepared to wait. It took us over an hour to get our food. We were a large party but the only ones in there. I guess fantastic food is worth waiting for though. I'll definitely be back.

Dinner was amazing, and the rolls are so large, one of my favorite smaller shops. There’s space to sit outside and the atmosphere is perfect.

DO NOT GO HERE!!!!! The worst dining experience I've ever had. Period!!!
We arrived at 5:00 pm. There were 2 tables and us dining at that time. The server brought one menu for our table of 3 adults and 2 children. We sat in the outdoor dining area. We waited for 10 mins, then I went in to ask if someone was coming to take our order or if we had to order in. Only then did the server come out to take our order. We ordered water and sake to drink, the Love Boat, a rainbow roll, the Mexican roll, and a kids chicken teriyaki meal to eat. 10 minutes later our drinks came out. 20 mins later our miso soup came out. 40 minutes later only the Love Boat came out without the tempura items or the two chef choice rolls. The kids meal and the tempura items came out 10 mins later. The tempura sweet potatoes and zucchini were raw. The chicken teriyaki and rice was DRY. So my kid couldn't eat his meal nor could he eat anything off ours because he isn't old enough to eat raw seafood. We had to wait 15 more minutes to get the rainbow roll and the Mexican roll.
1 hour and 30 mins into the dining experience and I was completely put off our meal and had no desire to eat anything.
We paid for The Love Boat and that was it. We will never be back. EVER!!! I have never experienced this kind of disrespect and neglect ever!

To be fair, this might have been the worst restaurant experience I've ever had. I can forgive a lot of things when the food is good, but I have personally made better rolls than what we were given.
As the only customers this was our experience:
1) We were given a single menu for 3 people.
2) It took 15 minutes to get just water
3) We were never given silverware or napkins
4) after having ordered a sushi boat, it took 45min to get the soup.
5) At the 1.25hr mark, we finally got the boat, but no rolls or tempura.
6) At 1.5hrs our 2y/o finally got his chicken
7) 2 of our rolls never came
Exceptionally poor service, awfully crafter rolls, and servers who can't even take out their earphones......when we were the only orders. DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE. Store bought sushi is better quality.

The sushi was marvelous. I also had the Ramen which was delicious. I will definitely try other items on the menu if I'm in the area again.

Horrible service- food is average but if you’re hungry or don’t have 2 hrs to waste go somewhere else. Not fun when the family owned business runs bad due to bad family day

Literally the worst service and soooo disappointed with the food. Literally took an hour before our main course. The young man serving almost dumped soup on my sons head. When we walked in we were looked at with disgust because we had kids with us. I’ve never been anywhere where I had to hand write my whole order down. Not check boxes but write it out for them. They didn’t give us a roll that was ordered. We just got to the point where we were just done and wanted to leave. There was literally no interaction from anyone who worked there. Don’t waste your time or money.

The Korean ramen was pretty disappointing. The broth was good but the noodles were just regular cheap ramen noodles you’d get for $1 at the store. Definitely not the quality of noodles you’d expect from a $15 bowl of soup. Would not recommend. Sushi was just okay. Gyoza was fine but nothing special.

Amazing food I was there for a graduation party and it was amazing.

Took a while for our food but, it was so worth the wait! We will be back!

Extremely long wait time. Ramen was $1 Instant Noodle and microwaved. Sushi was okay but definitely not worth the money for a sushi place. And staff were rude and deliberate with any questions we had.

We had to write down our food order, ask for water and we waited an hour and a half while the chef pumped out to go orders. We got up and left without being served. We will never go there again

Waitress hands you a pad of paper and asks you to write your order. Strange way to do it, but must be the language barrier. Decent sushi rolls. A few tables inside and outside.

I ordered a Roll Combo, a Bul Go Gi, and a California Roll. The rice in all the rolls felt old and didn't had a good flavor. I don't know if they were using old rice, but it wasn't good. I think that a store bought sushi (which are usually pretty bad) would have tasted better. I've gone to the place before, and its usually pretty good, but this time it was just a huge waste of money.

Best sushi in the Springs!!!

Our favorite place for sushi. I find the sushi places with only 1 or 2 sushi chefs are the best. They really know what they are doing! Service is always fantastic! Because it's a small place, be prepared to stay for at least an hour. Totally worth it!

Ah-mazing!!! Coming from California, I am so happy that I found a GREAT sushi place in a landlocked state!!

Absolutely fantastic sushi spot. Ive tried numerous sushi spots and this one is my favorite in the springs. It’s small so make a reservation if you can :)! We’ve gotten lucky and were able to snag a spot without one.
My go to order:
Pikes Peak Roll
Spicy Mexican Roll
(Both are spicy crab related). 10/10 will continue coming here.

Giving 3 stars because when we got the food, it was good. However, we waited an hour for sushi and we were the only ones in the restaurant. They also gave us our appetizer after our meal because I reminded them we never got it. I would have reminded them before, but they were not in the dining room... If you go, plan on going before you get hungry and bring something to pass the time.

Absolutely the best sushi I've had in a while. Great comfortable little environment. The lady who waited on me, was/is especially kind. I'd highly recommend personally.
