A Must-Visit Sushi Spot!

I recently revisited one of my favorite sushi places from when I was younger, and I was thrilled to see it had undergone a complete remodel. I’ll admit, I was a little skeptical at first—could it still capture the magic I remembered? But once I sat down and took my first bite, all doubts melted away.

The sushi here is absolutely amazing! Every piece is fresh, authentic, and bursting with flavor. The attention to detail in each roll and the variety offered truly stand out. On top of that, the staff is incredible—friendly, attentive, and so knowledgeable about the menu. They helped make the experience even better by recommending dishes and sharing insights about the flavors and preparation.

The updated atmosphere complements the incredible food, creating a dining experience that feels both modern and welcoming. I highly recommend giving this place a try. If you’re a sushi lover, you won’t be disappointed. Next time I visit, I’m definitely ordering their impressive sushi boat—it looks like a feast worth every bite!

This was our first time here at Azabu in Whittier. Let me say, what a romantic atmosphere. Azabu had such a luxurious vibe. A welcoming smile greets you at the entrance and from there on out everyone was extremely accommodating. Our first experience here was perfect. Our waiter was busy with another customer, but he took the time to tell us welcome and he'll be right with us, and 3 min later he was taking our drink order. So professional...

The atmosphere was elegant and fun. We sat at the sushi bar and we were made to feel extremely important. Everyone was accommodating and the food was DELICIOUS 😋😋.. Presentation was perfect and I was blown away by the taste.

We also tried the scallop shots.... DELICIOUS!!! Those became a repeat order 😋😋😋. We had a wonderful evening. We will definitely be back again... Absolutely!!!!

Went here for a business dinner, but would be a perfect location for a romantic date. The ambiance and atmosphere is amazing. The staff was very attentive and the food was amazing. The sushi was the best the table had ever eaten. The steak was delicious as well.

We just happened to stumble into Azabu while looking for a sushi dinner spot. The restaurant is very nice and modern. The waitstaff was attentive, professional and knew the menu well. We started with the black crispy rice which was delicious. Next we had the Geisha roll (it’s a roll with spicy tuna, shrimp tempura and topped with albacore) yum! We had the seafood ceviche after and finished off with the tuna tataki (not pictured). All of our food was exceptional and presented very well.

Beautiful restaurant that has an upscale vibe. The food is delicious and the service has always been great. My favorites are the Wagyu Dumplings and Salmon Carpaccio.

Pleasantly surprised with this great sushi spot! We went in the evening and I have to say it has a very sexy vibe, looks modern great for a group setting or for a date with friends or lovers ☺️. Rashad took care of us all evening and was very attentive to us throughout our entire visit. His customer service was on point! Sushi, appetizers and cocktails were delicious. There was a very robust menu along sushi rolls, hand rolls, vegan options and an incredible cocktail selection!

This sushi restaurant exceeded my expectations. The decor is so cute and romantic. They have beautiful painted murels with so much detail. The sushi rolls are amazing, but the chocolate cake is fire🔥. The staff is friendly and absolutely accommodating. The decor, food, presentation, and attention to detail is far beyond words. My new favorite Sushi 🍣🥢 spot😋

It was a busy Friday night. The place was full, with crowds waiting outside (which is usually a good sign of a great restaurant). We forgot to make a reservation so we waited at the bar for our table, which isn't a problem. While at the bar, we ordered some drinks and oyster shooters. Both were good, as expected. We finally got our table but it took another 20 min for our waitress to take our orders. Unfortunately, our food took even longer. It took about 30 min for the first dish, Yellowtail carpaccio, and about 15-20min between each dish to come out. We ordered 4 dishes so the last one didn't come out until almost an hour later. 4 🌟 for the quality of the food. 4 🌟 for the ambience. 2 🌟 for the service.

By far this was the greatest dining experience we’ve ever had, from the elegant ambience, to the welcoming environment, to the engaging staff, to the epic birthday surprise at the end this has got to be the greatest restaurant in all of California. Not sure what the hype is. Much better places to get sushi. The portions are small and incredibly overpriced. Drinks are like $23 each - not cocktails, just straight hard liquor drinks…if you like to overpay to feel cool and trendy or something (it’s not classy, it’s dreck), this place is for you. If you’re looking for quality food, I wouldn’t go here.

What a GREAT dinner! Met friends here on a late Friday night and they fit us in. The sushi was fresh and so tasty, definitely the best I’ve had in a LONG time. The drinks were amazing, try a version of their old fashioned but so many different drinks to choose from. Our server Christine was so attentive & sweet. We felt the service was 10/10! I recommend the wagyu dumplings and Geisha roll!

Bomb sushi with aesthetically pleasing presentation, upscale trendy vibe, and competent, quality service. Came here as a last minute decision for my birthday. And ended up being surprised with one of the best sushi meals I've had in my life. Our server, Christine, was fantastic. I cant find a thing to complain about.

I recently dined here with my son and husband, and unfortunately, the experience was far from satisfactory. The sushi pieces were overpriced and of poor quality. They felt like they were trying to cater more to their TikTok popularity rather than focusing on the actual food.

To make matters worse, it was not mentioned anywhere that a 20% gratuity would be automatically added to the bill after reaching a certain amount. Our bill came to a shocking $740 for just the three of us! For two rolls alone, you're looking at over $300, which is absolutely ridiculous.

I would not recommend this place if you're looking for good quality sushi at a reasonable price. There are much better options out there that don’t rely on flashy social media posts to justify their inflated prices.

Look out for the prices.

My wife thought this was the best sushi she’s ever had, and it was very good. The shishito peppers were delicious and so was the Abazu crunch roll and wagyu dumplings. The baked crab roll I could have done without, but otherwise an amazing dinner and great service. If you’re in the area, it really is worth a stop.

Had the most exquisite and mouth watering food and cocktails here. Our server Joseph recommended the Geisha and Fuji rolls and they did not disappoint! I eat a lot of sushi and the fish here tasted very fresh. The Sumoki pineapple cocktail was the perfect drink to pair with our food. The Yuzu cheesecake was rich in flavor and the perfect ending to our meal. The atmosphere is very welcoming, cozy, and elegant. The service from Joseph was top tier and all of his recommendations led to one of the best meals I’ve ever had.

Look no further for the atmosphere of fine dining and customer service in uptown. The staff here are lovely and the experience is excellent. The food, however does not match the price point or showmanship of the service.

No wait time on a Wednesday night. Was helped by the host, manager, and a delightful server. Everyone was enthusiastic and knowledgeable of the menu.

Drinks were beautifully prepared, with the added experience of a smoked original old fashioned. Did it add to the flavor? No, but for entertainment and the brief enjoyment of pleasant aroma, it was a nice touch.

Crispy rice appetizer was supreme. Great combination of textures.

Signature rolls were okay, not much flavor, but I suppose if you’re a sushi purist, you may enjoy limited modification to the fish. If I had wanted this, I would have ordered nigiri.

Note: the Japanese cheesecake is NOT a soufflé cheesecake. It’s the no-bake cream cheese kind. This is unlike any of the Japanese cheesecakes I’ve sampled and was the most disappointing part of the experience.

For a nice night out, Azabu is a decent option.

This is my new favorite for elevated dining experiences! Brought in a friend from the UK and he absolutely loved this place! The food is delicious, the atmosphere is great, the staff is wonderful, and the bartender actually knows how to make a GOOD Old Fashioned. The overall experience is very conducive to a great time with friends or a romantic night for two. I highly recommend giving Azabu a try.

Me and my wife came here for the first time for our birthdays. Azabu you did not disappoint the food was amazing and staff gave us phenomenal service. The grilled octopus was tender, flavorful which is hard to get me and my wife loved it. Blue fin tuna is absolutely delicious. Sushi is good you can taste the quality ingredients you really don’t need the ginger and soy it was great by itself. We found a hidden gem in Whittier can’t wait to go back .

This place charged us a large party service fee EVEN THOUGH WE DIDN'T DINE WITH SIX PEOPLE?!

Thinking about this whole situation still feels like a slap in the face and I never leave one-star reviews!

We made a reservation for six at Azabu a few weeks ago. My mom is on a chemo medication and upon arrival, she was feeling nauseous and went home before any of our food arrived.

It was just five of us for the entirety of the meal.

When we got the check, my dad paid right away, but when he went to leave a tip, he saw that we had already been charged the 20% large party gratuity fee.

We talked with the manager who was extremely apathetic to our situation. He essentially told us that we had to pay for the seat, and not so much for the person that was in that seat. We explained that she didn't even eat and left immediately after getting sat at our table and if it was the five of us where would he have sat us? He explained it would have been a smaller table which we wouldn't have even fit at to begin with...

It's a shame to think that this place values money over their customer experience. As someone who was born and raised here I will be sure to never recommend this place to family, friends, or visitors.

If you're looking for great sushi and a familial feel, I recommend Dakara on Whittier Blvd!!!

Tha meal was amazing!! I don't say that lightly. It's one of the best we have had lately. The good was very original, but not complicated. The flavors were well balanced. From start to the dessert. And surprisingly enough the service was also one of the best. They were all very attentive, and our waiter Rashan was on top of everything! Prompt, helpful and our empty dishes were taken away promptly. The music was at the right level and they have amazing paintings on the wall. Great place!

Amazing sushi in Whittier came all the way from LONG BEACH just to try this restaurant and it was amazing. I will definitely be back. We ordered the tuna tartar, Denver Wagyu, fuego specialty roll, and sashimi tacos 🌮

Sashimi tacos weren’t as great as we thought it would be but everything else exceeded our expectations. The drinks here are amazing. Recommend ordering the Geisha Umbrella’

This one is a bit tricky because the food was delicious, but the service was quite bad. We never received one item, even though we reminded the waiter--who we barely saw--and a dish requiring silverware was served, but then got cold after the 15 minute it took us to flag down a waiter for silverware. They were probably understaffed, but still, it was off-putting having an automatic 20% tip added to our (3-person) bill for bad service.

Yuli was the best!!!
The food and cocktails never disappoint here. We had an amazing dinner with the best waitress Yuli. We just loved her, she provided outstanding service with a warm and welcoming demeanor. She demonstrated excellent knowledge of the menu, offering recommendations and accommodating special requests with ease. Overall, her professionalism, friendliness, and attention to detail truly enhanced our dining experience. She's a true asset to the restaurant!

The food was incredible. Yes, it's pricey, but this place actually delivers. The flavor isn't just on the walls, each dish is carefully thought through and executed. And then there's the drinks... Not just presentable, but wonderfully balanced. If that wasn't enough, the waitress took an interest in our flavor preferences and made conscientious recommendations, even some substitutions. We had an amazing time and have vowed to return as soon as possible.

I had the most incredible 5 course dinner on Valentine's Day. I wish I did not have lunch that day....but we powered through it like the sushi pros we are. Christine, our server was impeccable to detail, made excellent recommendations and paced the meals so we did not feel rushed and allowed for the food to settle in.

I recently visited this sushi spot and let me tell you, it was top-notch! The vibe inside was incredible, super chill and welcoming. The staff was so friendly, especially the bartender Nami and server Sharky. They took such good care of me, I was seriously impressed by their service. Even the manager, whose name slipped my mind, was super welcoming and brought some great energy to the place. It's the perfect spot for a date night, seriously. Oh, and shout out to Martin for recommending the VIP sampler – it was like Amazon quality sushi, seriously amazing. Five stars all the way!

This place is a 5plus stars. It’s amazing.
Since the moment we walked in we were greeted with a warm welcoming smile from a beautiful young lady at the front.

Our server Rashad was awesome! Very attentive amazing service & beautiful attitude he made sure we had a great evening. When he found out it was my first time he explain the menu in detail. Due to my health restriction he made some great food suggestion that I truly like.

The food is A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!!! great tasting everything’s is made to perfection, very flavorful and very eye-catching. The presentation of the food is just awesome! Good portion size, you won’t leave hungry. The food in the sushi bar looks so fresh and yummy! It’s a little expensive but it’s so worth it!

The place is decorated beautiful. It’s super clean. It looks so fancy. The manager comes to every single table & greets you. That was really nice of him. Now days you don’t see that. Very nice Jester.

If you’re looking for a great tasting sushi place look no more I definitely recommend this place.

First off this is a fancy decadent sushi restaurant. All food is obviously made fresh.
We didn't get much this trip: tuna& California roll, the medley fish tacos, which may be an acquired taste very fresh but bland, the shrimp chunks I did add wasabi & some soy sauce, but I felt needed something more, wish I could some of my salsa on it, lol. The shell was maybe a small flour tortilla? Or maybe a egg roll wrap? Then clasped w/a small seaweed square,
Then ordered 2 crab teriyaki rolls which were quite delicious, my drink was a pretty Ricky which was perfect to make you relax, then a small bottle of saki, which hit the spot. Service was good, beautiful art.

I usually prefer my sushi without frills but i gotta hand it to em that they have quality sushi. The salmon nigiri comes with a lil dab of mayo it definitely does not need because they are already using a generous and fatty portion of fish to begin with. Of all the sushi rolls to try “The King” was very balanced and not too fishy or crabby. Great service shoutout to Diego. I will say this is pricier than some of the other contemporary high end sushi spots and that’s largely to offset the pseudo-nightclub vibe. All that being said the food and service will definitely not disappoint.

So I have conflicting feelings about this place. We just finished our meal there. Got there at 530pm on Friday night. There was no wait. The service was wonderful and I loved the atmosphere.... But, the sushi was just "ok." I got the Geisha roll which was recommended, but honestly I've had better. Ginzaya sushi in La Mirada or E-sushi in E. Whittier are better when it comes to the food.... And this place was so expensive. You are paying for the service and the beautiful environment. Very swanky and modern... I loved the atmosphere but just wish prices were lower and the sushi was better. It wasn't "bad" perse, my husband and I just didn't really care for what we got. It's a good date night place though, lively and sexy.

The sushi was immaculate! Fresh and flavorful. My favorite was the Smoked Azabu. The A-5 Wagu was on point and the smoke flovor just took it to another level. My husband loved the nigiri sampler. It is definitely a "must try." Our server, John, was the bomb! He was friendly, had great recommendations, and hooked my husband up with this awesome ube desert for his bday! Will definitely be back!

After having horrible service at another restaurant, a friend and I decided to try Azabu since we were out celebrating my birthday. We had the pleasure of being waited on by Diego. He is awesome, so polite with a great personality. We tried his recommendations and loved everything. The manager was also great. Very involved and giving recommendations as well. I will return and recommend this restaurant to everyone I know. The drinks and food are delicious

今天和舊同事去試網紅餐館。原來這餐館祗開了11個月。老闆是拉丁裔couple。入到這餐館感覺是去了downtown LA. 樓底好高。裝修環境不錯。後來和他們的👩Manager Christine （from Taiwan）傾談中。得知他們每星期四晚10:30pm 會有Live band 至1am。

This was our first time here and we absolutely loved it. This restaurant really believes in its own concept and brand. We got the best service and the quality of food was amazing. We are so unhappy with most restaurants we go to because there’s always one or more of these elements missing. Here, they checked all the boxes and we will definitely be repealed customers. Excellent everything!!

I loved this place, the sushi was so good. I didn’t like the ceviche, there was hardly any seafood in it , mostly onion and cucumber. Their wagyu roll was really good. They give fresh wasabi with the sashimi which was cool. It’s a very nice looking restaurant too, but unfortunately the surrounding area isn’t that nice. I would definitely come back here for the food though and all the servers were excellent.

I had really high hopes I went there with my family my daughter and my wife we were set somewhere close to the kitchen I understand since we had my daughter maybe not to buy that they want the overall tab was over $500 and in my opinion was not worth the quality of food that was given or the service I had to keep asking for my waiter even when it came to paying the tab I had to wave someone down disappointed save your money go somewhere where you will be appreciated.

Jason (General Manager) is an amazing leader . He is super humble , and very attentive , is not afraid to fill in for his workers and it shows. I have not met many General mangers that simply show their face , every time we come here he is there to greet us and see if everything is okay . thank you so much Jason . Our waitress Yuli is amazing , always has a big smile on her face and very attentive . Not a minute goes by before she checks on us ! Thank you for the great experience !!!

Great vibes in the air at Azabu!

This is an absolute gem in the City of Whittier. The decor is trendy yet classy. It's my favorite restaurant.

Their menu has a wonderful selection of entrees and appetizers. We usually order some appetizers and share while having a couple of drinks.

The staff provides phenomenal service and take pride in it. Their quality of service is in a league of their own. Nothing but fun and positive vibes here.

Sashimi lovers! Their sashimi sampler is a little piece of heaven. It is fresh and melts in your mouth. Presentation is more of a work of art. My favorite at Azabu.

We also had some edamame. It was delicious and also fresh.

I Love their smokey old fashioned. They smoke it for you at your table. The smokiness elevates the drink and complements the other ingredients. It's my favorite drink here. It's a beautiful drink that is good for the sould. *make sure to let your awesome server know you want it smoked*

My brother had the house saki. It didn't disappoint. It's smooth and makes you feel warm and fuzzy.

Every dish is a beautiful work of art and everything that I have had is delicious.

This is the perfect place for happy hour with friends. The decor is a great background for your pics. It's also a perfect place for date night or any other occasion. Check it out for yourself. You won't be sorry.

This is a hot spot and reservations arenthe best way to get a seat without a long wait. Although, Azabu is well worth the wait.

You will have a wonderful time while enjoying some excellent food and drinks.

food was really fun and delicious. the host looked mad, but our server was nice. but they charged my total amount as their tip. Contacted restaurant they said they will check and get back to me. Didnt hear back from them for few days, so ended up disputing the cost with my credit card. So make sure you double check your reciept and check ur card statement!

I’ve been here a few times and the flavors created by the wise chef are pure deliciousness. The cocktails are just as great. Great vive, great food and drinks. Best sushi and Sashimi in Whittier in my opinion

Good food, atmosphere. Service is OK. Too many employees for too little attention. It seems to me that they assign tables to one person, and you become invisible to the others. But the server was good when rarely she came by.

Decent dinner. Went for my birthday today. It was VERY pricey, and honestly, the quality didn't fully justify the price to me. You can find equal quality with a slightly lower price, Sushi Roku, still pricey but equal quality.

Overall, it was a good experience, though. They were a little jumbled with our cake. They insisted on cutting it, and it took it to the back, but it took an oddly long time to come out plated. I'd have preferred to cut it myself at that point, but I know most people don't like that sort of thing. 🤷

this place is a hidden gem. The food is amazing and the drinks are not far behind. The hostess was friendly and knew what to recommend. This is a great place to go out on date night or go out with your friends. The sashimi and sushi rolls are an excuse to go again.

I feel like this place way overhypes itself. Very cool decor, very cool vibe, but some of the more expensive sushi I’ve seen in LA and the rolls are mostly all contain crab or tempura and little actual raw fish. Tried the yellowtail carpaccio which sounded great and my gf got a crunch roll. Both were very meh.

Food is delicious, service is great. A few items on the menu were sold out, our choices were limited. We had a reservation and still waited about 20 min to be seated. Parking was $10, if you look around you will find parking.

I really enjoyed the atmosphere here at Azabu - it's definitely lively, colorful, and fun. The service here is also top notch - paying the check is pretty easy through the portable card reader. Came here for the happy hour drinks and I gotta say the Uneshu Sawa was one of my favorites of the night. Food was pretty good as well - their rolls are made with real crab vs. those imitation crabs. I'm not sure if I will come here solely for sushi, but I will definitely come back for the vibes~

However, parking on might be a bit hectic. We came here on a Thursday night and found street parking. The hostess let us know there's valet in the weekends.

The food and drinks were good. Beautiful restaurant. But beware of getting large party service charge of 20%. This happened to me and we only had 2 ppl in our party. When the menu clearly specifies 6 or more for large party service charge. Very unethical.

I’ve had a lot of sushi in my life and this was top tier fish with amazing recipes/flavors! Our server Mia was super attentive and sweet. Chef Chalo was humble and sweet. Thank you for the great experience Azabu 🙏🏽 p.s. I’m not typically a dessert person but the dessert sushi, which I was told is new to the menu, was outstanding!

Martins who brought our drinks. We came to celebrate our anniversary tonight and we were treated like royalty. Service is second to none!! It has been hard to find great service after shut Down.. AZABU you delivered. From host to expo all your staff was so friendly. Food was so delicious we had the dumplings yum!!! Ponzu sauce was very citrus forward and almost had a Gin flavor, it was so good!! Batter on tempura was so light an flakey. Great specials for happy hour sunday thru Thursday. We will be back for sure.

Really nice ambience and friendly welcome. The host opened the door for us and sat us at a nice table and then our waitress gave us a nice but lengthy introduction since it was our first time. We were here for happy hour and the drinks were great. The crunchy roll was good and fried rice was awesome but we had to try their specialty rolls (not on happy hour). I forgot the name of the roll but it just tasted like avocado and rice. It had yellowtail and not forgot what else but it was all bland. Got another cocktail which was great again but wanted to try some nigiri (bluefin tuna and rice) to give them one last shot. And it was grocery store quality. Still had fishy after taste in my mouth after I left too. The presentations were nice and I think we will come back for drinks and some other appetizers but not for sushi. You can get better sushi for half the price at other local spots.

Nice place. .. I orderedthe lobster. ...very good but the young waitress felt it wasnot necessary to check for a missing entree. We reminded her. She never cleared our table in fact the hostess took care of us mostly. .thereafter we decided to tip the hostess. To the irony the hostess said " she could not takethe tip because she was owner. .....Gosh........so the owner clears our servers dishes ?????? I'm a server at montage resort laguna beach. ....Do your job snobby lazy server.

There was a lobster special when I went last. It was superb!
My family ordered a good mix of sushi rolls, and sashimi. Everything tasted great.
The service and attention provided was unexpectedly excellent.

Great new place in uptown Whittier. The appetizers, entrees, drinks and dessert were great. The service was fantastic from the time you hit the door your dinning experience couldn't be any better.

Great environment, great customer service, and awesome place for a date night. Sashimi pizza is amazing! My only recommendation is that they add more options in the menu and maybe provide some simple economical sushi/Sashimi options. It would be nice to drop by for any random occasion and not just special occasions.

The new menu offers unbelievably overpriced Sushi in exchange

We ordered, miso soup, the nigiri platter and Fuji roll. Everything was incredible and delicious. The choice of topping on each individual piece of nigiri was so well balanced and flavorful. Absolutely will be back!

Great restaurant, great food, good vibes. Nice atmosphere and decor. My daughter and I stopped in late Saturday night, around 10:30pm, for dinner. We both loved the place from the start and the staff, (everyone from our server to the new owners), were very friendly, attentive and respectful. We were fortunate enough to meet their general manager, former and new current owners, the night we dined. All were really great at making us feel welcome and appreciated. I were told they had just re-opened a week ago or two and I hope this restaurant & staff keep all their positive energy moving forward.

Jack always treat us great, the food is always great. During the almost 8 years of dinning here, almost every Friday night, we have meet lots of very friendly and interesting people that share the good taste in great sushi

Been going here for past 8 yrs weekly.. not monthly.. weekly! Awesome spot. Fernanda and her mom are the best!! Jack is the Master Chef and Sue gets down in the kitchen with anything you want quick! Sad to hear that Sido has sold the place to The Chicken cope guys and it's goin to be a "high end" spot now. And everyone is going to be fired. Sux because all the new owner (James and Jason) need to do is just remodel and keep the vibe the same. If not, trust me it's not going to work. Awesome and well liked and loved Employees make the biz work. Not the other way around.
