Great spot! Loved the creativity of the menu— fish was not only super fresh but presented with fun twists and flavors you won’t see elsewhere. Presentation beautiful, and service super attentive, friendly and kind— not pretentious like you have some places around this area. Lots of people on dates, and some groups celebrating events. Don’t sleep on these oysters— the mignonettes were legendary. The buratta dish was ambitious but honestly expected more from this— cherry tomato garnishes with sashimi is not a match that works. Obsessed with this seaweed salad that came with the hand rolls!!! Can’t wait to come back.

We booked this spot last minute before heading to the comedy store next door.

It was perfect, truly 5 star dining experience that cannot be faulted.

Very accommodating to gluten free / allergies and lots of fresh delicious options.

Sitting outside was comfortable as they have heaters surrounding the patio area. A beautiful spot to sit, enjoy the evening breeze and beautiful food.

We had the omakase which was delicious and very well rounded from the robata, sushi, and signature dishes. My favorites were the miso marinaded black cod and the orange fluke, but honestly everything they brought out was incredible!! I love Katana and really can’t speak highly enough about it. Can’t wait for my next visit!

This restaurant is located across the street from the hotel we were at. It is very busy.Our reservation time was pushed out thirty minutes. It has a beautiful aubience. We sat outside which was nice so you could see the streets of sunday. My second.
Lobster was good.I know this sushi was fresh. My party did not get her meal until after I was done with mine. The server forgot that we had asked for a couple of things that we asked for twice. I know she was busy. They gave me a cute birthday plate. I recommend this place if you're looking for high end asian fusion resturant. Just be aware that it could take some time.

GO TO KATANA If you love great, artfully prepared sushi (or if you need to learn to love it!) Let me say first of all that I am so glad to learn today from the operator at the West Hollywood Andaz Hotel next-door that the Andaz and Katana both have escaped the horrible LA fires. About 16 years ago, I went to LA for a family wedding. The then-Hyatt was under construction to convert it to the new hotel so they were offering a very low rate that day, and It was lovely. Hyatt hotels are wonderful for me, have been for years. It still has the beautiful rooftop pool overlooking the Hollywood Hills and that location is what inspired me to call and check on them today The House of Blues was then still across the street, and that night reggae greats Toots and the Maytals were playing. Hungry after long flight, I went to Katana,which seemed to be run by a very lovely family, and there was a very tall, skilled (and so handsome!)sushi chef who made me the first tuna handroll sushi I had ever had — it was no less than spectacular! I called the Andaz hotel this afternoon when I realized the Hollywood Hills were affected (their rooftop pool overlooks the Hills) to see if people were OK and I’m so thankful that the hotel and this gem of a restaurant were spared the inferno. My cousin, who was the beautiful bride in the wedding that weekend - still lives in the LA area. She has been to Katana, and she also loves this restaurant, as anyone paying attention would. I remember the lovely dark vibe in there. I am just so glad that your establishment has have escapied these recent horrors. If you have an accessible entrance, I will come back because I’m using a wheelchair now. May God bless all of you!

Love coming to Katana! Alyssa and DJ served me, they were very helpful and knowledgeable regarding the menu. I got the lychee martini to start off, it’s delicious! Per their recommendations, I also go the brussels sprout chips , hammer roll , and fluke orange, all very good! I will definitely be bringing friends and family to Katana when they visit. Didn’t eat but drinks. The waitress was unprofessional and mean. We wait a long before she asking for our order. So we went on the bar to tell her what we wanted. She made the first cocktail good Then we order again the same, she made the second one really really bad. Saying that she doesn’t need to put a flower on it because i was already a flower 😅 She was stressing us because she wanted to leave. Uncomfortable.

I legit don’t think I’ve ever had better service and I’ve been to Michelin star restaurants around the world. If I ever owned a restaurant this level of service was so good it opened my eyes on what a dining experience should look like. Our waitress specifically gets a major shoutout (I wish I remembered her name).

Had a wonderful dinner this weekend and had Wagyu for the first time, thanks to our server Conrad, who was one of the best servers we’ve ever dined with!! Thanks for your hospitality and for making us feel right at home!! I recommend the wagyu on the hot rock! We were recommended it by our lovely server and we were so happy with how it tasted! We will definitely be coming back for that wagyu and for Conrad’s service!

I love coming here! I feel like a Rockstar everytime I come to Katana. Not only is the food delicious and fresh, but the staff is friendly and makes you feel at home. Probably top 5 dining experiences I have ever had. It started with the service, my wife and I were served by DJ and Alyssa and they were so incredible. They were attentive and caring and kind and informative. Next up the food, excellence across the board. Lastly, the scenery, a beautiful restaurant, with a great ambiance in the city. I have been here to eat dinner twice, once having Dj and once having Alyssa as my servers. Both were amazingly attentive to my table. The food was immaculate, the best sushi I’ve ever had. Both of their suggestions made the experience even better than expected! I would 10/10 recommend going to Katana and asking for either Dj or Alyssa to be your server!

We had 8 dishes here, and all were excellent. Conrad provided excellent service - he was friendly, knowledgeable, accommodating to the requests of our two kids and had the kitchen deliver the food with perfect timing. Came w/ my family over the weekend and had such a good time!!!!! Conrad was our server and he was so attentive, and had this genuine way of making you feel cared for, even on a busy night. There was a fifteen minute wait for my party of four to be seated outside. While waiting for my table I decided to get some drinks for my party but we were never greeted or offered any service by the bartending staff. After becoming frustrated I had to shout out to the bartender who finally made some drinks for my party. A couple came to bar after my party which they were serviced before my party. The male bartender spoke the same language as the male of the couple. This only annoyed me even more. This honestly got me off to a bad start. Once seated at our table, the server, Alyssa was very professional, attentive and welcoming. She definitely earned my business. I would most likely avoid the bar in the future.

I felt weird after eating the food here. Not sure if they have MSG in their food. The food is tapas style. I ordered about 8 different items on the menu. The waiter didn’t seem interested in making sure we had what we needed. Her and her coworker were helping the table next to us, who had just as many people at their table. My guess is because I saw the men handing them cash on their hands for tips to stay on top of what they needed. We rarely seen our waitress & she seemed annoyed.

Ripoff, especially the Izakaya menu. Tried charging us $10 more ($85), per person, for basically the same meal another guest had ($75); they also argued it was more food when in reality we got less food than the person ordering the seasonal. They got a whole 8 piece roll whereas we had to split one roll. Food was tasty but I would not recommend this place otherwise.

The one thing that really stood out to me was the staff. From the moment I got there everyone from the hostesses to the manager Rafael were warm and friendly. They were genuinely interested in your experience there. My server Anita was amazing and helpful with my Zelle problem. I had tried to Zelle the parking people at the lot because I didn't have enough cash and they only took cash and Zelle. I didn't like being on the phone with the bank while eating because it's rude but she was a good listener and understanding. Rafael the manager helped me by telling where an ATM was very close by. When I got to the restaurant I told the hostesses that it was my first time there and they were so happy. I told them I was going to the Troubadour after dinner to watch my friends' daughter who was singing and playing in a band that night. They were excited for me and asked me the name of the band. When I left a different manager said good-bye and thanks for coming. Another staff member saw me leaving and said "have a good time tonight". The food and vibe was great as well. The view is a plus. I will be back if I get the chance to. Thank you Katana for making me feel special. I am a single lady, school teacher, treating myself on summer break and it was worth the trip from West Covina.

I have been coming to this place for years. Things changed for this place during and after covid. The service here is not what it used to be but sometimes you get lucky and get a great server. Last night that was the case. Great service , good energy and as always the ambiance is very lovely with a party like atmosphere. My problem is the food is just not what it used to be. The whole menu has changed and the food tastes different. I usually don’t need a menu when I dine here… I order the same things every time. I’m in show biz and I dine out a lot. Different restaurants have specific dishes I like and I go to those specific restaurants when I have a taste for that food. I’ve been a regular here for years and years. This time my favs were no longer on the menu . I was informed they “revised” a lot of menu items. With that being said, my guest enjoyed their meal and we had a good time. She had never been there before so she couldn’t comment on the differences in the menu. If you’re a regular you’ll notice. With that said…
By all means try this place at least once bkuz it’s a great spot. The building itself has some interesting history. Google the house of Francis on sunset Blvd if you’re interested in old Hollywood history. Due to the nature of the history being mature content I’ll leave that up to you to google rather than spilling the tea in this review . I would still recommend this spot if you’ve never been. For those of you who have been in the past, beware things have changed and you may or may not like the changes .

Always amazing! I love coming here while visiting LA. I feel like the food is always the same which is huge. The only thing with the service this time was it was too many times asking us if things were okay. I almost couldn’t enjoy conversation with my friend because of it. Otherwise I highly recommend for the great food and loved sitting outside.

Very few vegetarian or plant-based options. Unlike Matsuhisa or Nobu, kitchen and management are not willing to accommodate, and incredibly, the restaurant will bring you your check and then ask you to leave if you ask management and their superiors why they are unable to cut up and fry some vegetables. Service also takes 45 minutes to bring you a bottle of sparking water. Not impressed with manager Drew or hostess Chloe. Hostess Giselley is very nice and professional and the best person there.

I did not appreciate being told I “created a scene” when Chloe showed up with security and rushed my lady through her meal. They were lucky I did not have my security detail. I gave her a big tip in case owner Lee Maen does the right thing and fires her and Drew (or retrains them, which is unlikely).

I went here with my girlfriend on Valentine’s Day and we both loved it. The nice dark atmosphere the restaurant has gives a really good dinner vibe. We started off with 2 cocktails and loved them. We got the fresh oysters and miso soup as an appetizer. We really loved both of them. The miso soup was so tasty. For our main dish we both got the surf and turf and loved it. This place is definitely a must try.

Friendly service, staff is very helpful and attentive. The miso black cod skewer was great, as was the yellowtail serrano and yuzu margarita. The heat lamps and fire features kept the patio really comfortable.

I've been to this establishment twice and every time... It is just... Chefs Kiss. By far one of the most delicious places I've been to in LA. From the service, to the dining, to the desert - Katana is excellent for date night or a night out with the girls!

Flew in from New York and couldn’t get a table at Members so had my first experience at Katana on NYE. I see a lot of people complaining about the wait, but I don’t know what else people expect on New Years from such a popular and iconic restaurant. Our wait was easy, we had drinks in the mean time, and sat down right before midnight, when we got to have free champagne for a toast. I loved the DJ and the robata grilled skewers. I’m already planning my birthday dinner and will definitely be having it here.

I went back to Katana for NYE, it was packed like it used to be every weekend before Covid hit. We had a short wait but the bar was a blast and the food was totally worth it. When we sat down the manager spoke to us and made sure we were happy after our wait. Which we were. We’ve been coming here for years and that’s always been part of the experience when they were packed for a party. It was our server Amanda’s last night and we will be sad to see her go! She’s been at the restaurant forever and will be missed! Thanks katana for another great celebration!

NYE at Katana was a BLAST! from the second we walked in the hostesses were so friendly and absolutely set the tone for the rest of the night. wait times were a bit long, but that was to be expected because it was NYE. The food was incredible and the servers/ hostesses handled everything to the best of their abilities on what i’d expect to be a stressful night. honestly i would go back for new years next year no questions asked!

Fantastic spot - the location, atmosphere and impeccable service justify the prices. Food is really good but not perfect... though the ambiance ans attentive waitstaff more than make up for it. Spicy Tuna over crispy rice is a highlight, the wagyu potstickers are alright, along with the skewers (try the ribeye). Raw fish was hit and miss.
Would definitely go back to sample more of the menu, although might take some recommendations next time. The outdoor seating on the strip was also really great, heaters keep you warm!

My son and I have been coming to katana for years. Last night on his 13th birthday we drove from Calabasas and when we got to the door to check in for a reservation, they said that my son was not wearing dress code. He was wearing a brand new Nike tech outfit. I explained that he was only 13 and it was his birthday and I was having a hard time.wrapping my mind around the fact that my son can be wearing an expensive Nike outfit not be dress code for the restaurant, but there was a guy at the bar wearing a Santa Claus shirt. We ended up going to Koi and having an amazing dinner. Management needs to update their dress code policy for what is in style in 2023. My son was dressed completely appropriately. But we won’t be back to Katana.

I used to love coming here when I was in town working. I spent so much money in the years eating here almost everyday. I used to be friends with the bartender Sam and a couple other waitresses. The last time i went they had a new doorman and he refused to let me in because i had white sneakers on (fyi they were brand new). Meanwhile, he let four guys in with white sneakers. I work with comedians down at the comedy store so we used to frequent this place. I miss it, but have moved on since they hired the new doorman.

Absolutely in Love with Kataana . Located in the heart of Hollywood. Serves the best sushi and rotata Yaki and Japanese cuisine on the Senset strip. In side dining mood set is sexy and sleek for a more intimate dining experience. Outdoor patio dining provides a gorgeous view of the Sunset strip with music the Ambiance is definitely welcoming and assuring you your are in what the best of California Dining is all about . They serve the finest high quality cuts of fish and steak. They serve a beautiful sea bass that is not on the menu . I definitely recommend. It's a must in dining experience . My first choice in Japanese cuisine.

The Kosher Lambs (Really Tasty) made kind of no sense next to the smashed potatoes since it’s made with butter. Just keep that in mind if you’re looking for a full kosher meal.

Very underwhelming experience, nothing was great. We ordered ceviche, a rainbow roll and the short ribs. Of those items the short ribs were best. My friend also ordered a hot green tea and she actually had to send it back because it had such a weird flavor and it seem like that was not the waiters first time hearing that.

Beautiful building/interior.
Heat lamps by the tables outside. Good sushi, tasted fresh. Loved the eggplant app.
Good service.

Lots of steps to get up to the restaurant, I don't know if they have an elevator available. We ate dinner outside and it was a vibe, and nice to enjoy the LA scenery.

We had a lovely time here last night. Amazing music, amazing vibes, our waiter David was so kind and chill and just all around a great person. The FOOD! So good. Very good Sushi and the skewers were yummy (I recommend the prime rib or sea bass). The cocktails were also nothing short of perfection. So glad we randomly stopped in randomly later in the evening after driving by and it catching out attention. Next time we are in LA, we look forward to coming back here. HIGHLY recommend.

The dishes here are so yummy and well portioned. Love the shishito peppers and garlic edamame as starters. The Katana roll was also a standout. Great atmosphere, and nice for a date night.

We sat at the bar and had appetizers and drinks. Everything tasted good, and the drinks weren't watered down. The dj kept a nice vibe going. They have an outside patio area, tables inside, and room at the bar. We will definitely be back!!

The staff had welcomed us in a very sincere way. Our server, Alyssa, was so great that it made the experience that much better. The Nigiri Wagyu was absolutely incredible. Everything that I had, from starters, dishes to rolls, was amazing! I will visit again and will ask Alyssa to handle the ordering.

I came here for dinner on Sunday after a pool party across the street. My date and I got lucky as they were throwing an event with a special menu available, a DJ, and free rosé. There was a photo wall for pictures and a sweet lady named Zane taking Polaroids (adorable). The restaurant was busy and decorated beautifully. We were also lucky enough that we got to sit outside AND our server was great! We were able to meet the manager, Chloe, who made great recommendations on what to do for the rest of our time in LA—she even went so far as to give us her card for whenever we want to come back! Katana was fabulous and we have already started telling all of our friends about it for when they come to LA too.

Came here this weekend for dinner, it was packed but service was still great. Got to meet the manager Chloe and she made sure we felt like VIPS for our first time there. She even gave us her card so we can book our next dinner here directly through her. Loved the food and the music! We will be back!

Allettati dalle ottime recensioni abbiamo deciso di provare un’experience in questo ristorante. Le premesse erano più che buone, decidendo di sederci al tavolo dello chef, ma al momento del servizio abbiamo notato che la metà dei piatti proveniva del retro del ristorante e sopratutto di dubbia provenienza giapponese. Abbiamo pagato 195$ in due, per 4 uramaki a persona, 3 spiedini (pollo, carne e salmone), 3 sashimi di tonno, 2 crostini di tonno (minuscoli), 3 nigiri, e una capa santa. Per concludere la mirabolante cena, un pessimo tortino al cioccolato ( diviso 2 e crudo).
Se potete passate avanti, personale saccente e pretenzioso, nonostante le poche capacità e la scarsa professionalità, dettata solo dalla voglia di avere la mancia.

Ristorante sopravvalutato, basandoci su foto e recensioni abbiamo scelto di cenare qui facendo una “experience” ma di experience non c’era nulla, un po’ di sashimi che si trova ovunque, degli spiedini di carne e salmone, 4 uramaki (che non sono giapponesi) e come dolce il famosissimo tortino al cioccolato “giapponese” che non aveva il cuore caldo.
Il tutto per la modica cifra di 85$ a persona.
Se potete andate in un ristorante migliore e magari pagate anche meno

We recently dined at Katana restaurant with two groups of five, looking forward to a memorable evening of good food and pleasant company. Unfortunately, our experience at Katana was disappointing and frustrating.

First, the food was nothing more than ordinary and certainly not worth the high prices charged at the restaurant. The sushi, in particular, was not as fresh as one would expect from a place that prides itself on its Japanese cuisine.

Prior to our reservation, we called the restaurant to ensure that both of our groups could be seated at two tables close to each other. We were assured over the phone that this would be possible if we arrived a bit early. When we arrived early the hostess told us to wait a few minutes to be seated outside on two tables close to each other. However, a few minutes later the manger came and said one table had to be inside and the other outside, despite there being plenty of empty tables outside.

The manager, Chloee, insisted that we can only sit together if we pay $80 per person which I’m so happy that we didn’t considering over rated food. Chloee's attitude was rude and aggressive!!! After many back and forth arguments and an hour of waiting, we were finally seated outside but the two tables were placed in opposite corners while still there were plenty of empty tables. Chloee was determined to ruin our night with her unprofessional behavior.

The interior is decorated in a modern Japanese style. The dining room is spacious and well-lit, and there is also a large patio with outdoor seating. Katana was the perfect place to go for a birthday!when we arrived there we’re happy birthday placards on our plates, which made me feel so special for my 25th.

He good was delicious, and they surprised us with surprise shots and a molten chocolate lava cake.

We sat outdoors by they made sure we didn’t get too chilly since there were heaters.

The service was lovely as well.

Awful experience. I do not recommend. Trash service. I came in for a drink. I wanted to sit outside so I waited for a while and no one sat me down even though there were many staff members around. So I assumed I can sit and scan the barcode and order. I sat down and waited for someone’s attention. A waiter came over and I asked if I can just order a drink and no food. They said absolutely, I made my order and asked again if it’s fine if I just order one drink and no food, they again reassured that was fine. Another staff member came over and took my name and details for the system as I hadn’t made a reservation. Fine.

I received my drink and was enjoying myself. Then, the hostess came over on a super aggressive tone and said I cannot sit here and it’s for people who order food. I explained that I already have my drink and no one said that was going to be an issue. She carried on speaking to me an a passive aggressive way and raised her voice that other tables started to look over. She then brought her manager even though I said I’ll move to the bar but it would have been nice to be told nicely. The manager came over and I just asked for my bill so I can leave. The orginal waiter that told me it was fine to just order a drink came back to have a go at me and said I needed to have “etiquette” and I needed to wait to be seated, and that if I did, he said I’d “have a much better time”

Unfortunately everything there is PRE MADE!! I didn’t even know it was possible with Sushi! Before you sit, check out the sushi bar. Crazy they charge this much for pre made sushi, pre sliced sashimi, etc. Taste is OK at best. Unfortunately I won’t go back :(
