Adorned with red lanterns, this relaxed Japanese eatery serves sushi, sashimi, teriyaki & hot pots.
Nice little place! Unfortunately we came right before closing, so we tried our best to be quick with our orders and get outta there. But though our dinner was short, it was great! Server was extremely helpful and didn't seem at all bothered to serve us right before closing up. We even got extra miso soups on the house =) not sure if that was an accident or intentional but we were happy regardless.
To top it all off, after paying insane prices for food in the park, we were totally overjoyed that our small dinner came out to under $50 for the two of us. Great price for this location! I'd love to come back and spend more time here next time we end up in the area. And I definitely recommend saving your money in the amusement park and wait until you leave so you can spend all that money here instead 😀

Surprisingly good.
Everything we had was good… Takoyaki with plenty octopus, miso soup had fresh tofu, spicy tuna roll, Agedashi tofu with big pieces of tofu, and the chef special crab hand roll…all were amazingly good…
Do not order any white wine!!! It was awful..

I tried this japanese place along universal walk and turns out they have great food. There was no long wait and the place was just perfect. They also had outdoor seating but chose an indoor. We were seated by a lady host as we walked up the podium but she wasnt very pleasant when she came up. And this guy in a black suit took orders. It didnt really took that long to get our food. We had great time. 👍

I want to be straightforward: this restaurant is masquerading as a Japanese restaurant. Let’s start with the menu—it’s shocking to see they’ve simply written 'Kanji' for sake. For those unaware, 'Kanji' refers to Chinese characters, not sake, and this glaring mistake is obvious even to someone who isn’t Japanese. It’s clear there’s no authentic Japanese influence here.
Now onto the food. The Yuzu Margarita was a disappointment—a salty and unsavory drink that tasted neither of yuzu nor anything resembling a proper margarita. It was the shame of the day.
The shrimp tempura was another letdown. The shrimp were curly, a common mistake by those unfamiliar with proper tempura preparation. To make tempura correctly, you need to make small cuts along the shrimp’s belly to prevent it from curling. Even Costco manages to get their bulk tempura right, but this restaurant cannot.
The tonkotsu ramen was equally disappointing. We waited almost 30 minutes for our ramen, which is shockingly long for a dish that’s usually quick to prepare. Worse, during this time, we were completely ignored by the restaurant staff—no updates, no apologies, just a rude lack of care. When it finally arrived, the broth was watery, lacking the richness and creaminess that defines a good tonkotsu. The noodles were overcooked, and the bamboo shoots tasted like they came straight from a can. It felt like eating a bowl of rinse water with noodles.
To make matters worse, the staff placed the chopsticks vertically, pointing directly at other people. This is extremely disrespectful and rude in Japanese culture, as it violates basic chopstick etiquette. It’s another clear indication of their lack of understanding of Japanese dining traditions.
And finally, selling miso soup as a side dish feels like an insult to Japanese cuisine. I’d strongly recommend the restaurant owner take a trip to Japan to experience authentic Japanese food, learn the techniques, and understand the culture before labeling this establishment as Japanese.

Fine Japanese restaurant with good sushi selection. They are open after the park is closed. So highly recommend for late snack after the fun is over at the Universal Studio.
The place is nice with limited table.
We had sushi platter and udon, and chicken. A la carte menu portions are big. Sushi is ok. But you are not looking for culinary experience here.

Went there for dinner after USH trip. This is very fulling! I have to say that the food is not the best or super authentic but it is delicious and worth the price esp. for the park food. Had delicious t-rex roll with scallop tuna shrimp tempura, tonkotsu ramen and takoyaki. Got exceptional service from Luzby, she anticipated your needs. She put chilli oil for ramen on the table without asking and it went really well with ramen. She also gave out fun positive vibes. I agree with the comment that save money for the park food and go with this one. 😁

Visted this place after after completing universal rides. Tried something called Ramen for the 1st time. I really liked it more like soupy noodles. Also tried Japanese dessert Mochi.
We were here during happy hours, but the waitress did nt mention that, and we came to know only at the time of payment. That was a little disappointment otherwise could have tried some more Japanese dishes.

We stopped by to see if they could accommodate a party of 9 (our family had been visiting Universal Studios that day) and they could! They had us seated in within 5 minutes and the food was fantastic! It was so good, we went back the following evening. Unfortunately, we live in Hawaii and we all agreed that Universal Studios was overrated (and we won't be going back), we;ll probably never have a chance to eat at Wasabi again. However, I'll remember their garlic (ribeye) steak for a long, long time!

I was really disappointed with the service.
It was a waste of time to wait for a table to be available when clearly the access was denied when we waited the indicated time (supposedly they sent a message that never arrived). They denied the entry and said that there were no tables available when we could see empty tables with no sign of being reserved.
Don't waste your time or your money. There are other more interesting and delicious places to eat around Universal Studios.

On 9/7/24 at 6:20 pm, I was halfway through my meal when I realized there was human hair stuck to my piece of sushi. When I brought it to the young lady who claimed to be the shift lead she told me it was lint and took my food away and immediately brought me my check with a “discount” to call it even. She then proceeded to argue with me about the contents of the foreign object in my food in a rude manner. Would not recommend this place to anyone.

To the person who ruined my happy day.
Sandra, you shouldn’t have taken out your emotions on a customer or gone to other tables to complain and make yourself look like the victim of what happened at our table. You lack a service mindset, and if you can’t take responsibility for your mistakes and want to blame customers instead, you should quit your job immediately. The restaurant shouldn’t suffer because of you. This restaurant overall had good food and friendly service, but thanks to the server Sandra, it will be remembered as the worst part of our LA trip. I hope the owner of this restaurant sees this review and reconsiders Sandra’s service training.

I recently dined at Wasabi, and I must say, the experience was nothing short of amazing. The teriyaki chicken was perfectly cooked, tender, and bursting with flavor. The salmon rolls were a highlight, with the salmon glazed to perfection and incredibly fresh. I also tried the ramen, which was not only delicious but also very filling. The broth had an amazing flavor that left me wanting more. Overall, Wasabi offers exceptional food that I highly recommend!

I and my husband visited this restaurant on our business trip. We ordered eels rolls and ramen. Food was alright, I am originally from Seoul. I know what the best sushi is.
Servers seems racist (my husband is white, I am an asian)bc they weren’t talking to me they just talked my husband , they didn’t make eye contact to me. The lady guided us to table ignored when I say thank you. The sever ignored when we are finishing the meal right before the check she seems just waiting for the tip.
I won’t go there anymore.

I've never eaten here, but I feel that I need to point out that this restaurant's menu is pretty much reverse Engrish. It's like someone didn't know Japanese google translated a bunch of words and hope that non-Japanese speakers won't notice. Like, if you're looking for a place that's pretending to be Japanese, this is it.
For example:
Specialty Rolls 特産
That's somewhat passable. 特産 means local specialty. Does it have to do with rolls? No. Is it more suited to the "Chef's Specialty" section? Yes.
Sūpu 麺
Sūpu is literally the katakana for the *English* word "soup". So they wrote the Japanese pronunciation for an English word... For noodles. That's what 麺 is. Noodles.
Sarada サラダ
Like soup, "sarada" is the Japanese pronunciation for the English word salad. サラダ is the literally how they write the English word "salad". With that said, "sunomono" (酢の物) literally means "vinegared thing[s]". So, pickled things. I'm pretty sure most Japanese people wouldn't call pickled daikon a salad nor would an American call pickles a salad.
Anotre ご飯と
Anotre is "Entrée". This one took me a minute to figure out. They took a French word, got the katakana for it, and translated just the sound into English. The Japanese just says "with rice". They somehow translated "Entrée" to "with rice". Which wouldn't be bad considering this menu section has donburi's. But consider this, there IS a Japanese word for entrée. They either use "メイン" (main) for main dish or 主菜 which is literally main dish (as opposed to main food). And no, -don's and -ju's are usually not considered main dishes in Japanese culture.
Nomimono 飲み物
It means drinks/beverages. Just write drinks or beverages.
Japanese whiskey 乾杯
The kanji says "kanpai". Like what you say when you drink. Literally "dry your cup". Not 酒 (sake). So what did they use for sake?
Sake 目的
They somehow translated alcohol to "the purpose of". "Mokuteki" (目的) literally means "the purpose or goal of
So, to recap. If you're an English speaker, you'd have no idea what "anotre", "nomimono" or "Sūpu" means. Rendering the menu section headers useless. If you only read Japanese and not English, you won't be able to order because the headers are often wrong or misleading and the rest of the menu has no Japanese. Making the menu useless.
I imagine there's no real Japanese person working here. This is the restaurant equivalent of someone speaking mock Japanese to you hoping you think they're an authority on Japanese culture. Anyone Japanese child or first year Japanese language student or just anyone with a Japanese to English dictionary will know this is wrong.
Eat here, if you think it's good. I imagine the service staff has nothing to do with the menu. I just want people to know when they're being fooled.

If you’ve actually had decent sushi you will be disappointed. I’ve had better from the grocery store. Some of the fish was dried out as if it had been precut, refrozen, and thawed, or perhaps just cut into pieces many hours before or the previous day. My wife said she tastes a chlorine like flavor in one roll. The flavors were also poorly balanced and/or bland. At Universal City walk, it seems to be all about creating the appearance of quality with marketing and presentation while making up for that cost with cheap, low quality ingredients. That said, I think the only reason this place has 4 stars is because some of the reviewers are from places where good sushi doesn’t exist, or else people are actually duped by appearances or wanting to believe it’s good after getting a premium priced bill. Just don’t do it. Get cheaper food to hold you over or look for a sushi place rated 4.4 or higher nearby.

Decorated with red lanterns, staffed with great people and providing outdoor dining with a view of the bustling CityWalk life. This relaxed Japanese eatery serves sushi, sashimi and teriyaki. We go to this amazing restaurant every time we see a new movie premier at the AMC Universal CityWalk cinemas. Our top picks are the Kirin Signature Sushi roll, which includes shrimp, tempura, tempura crumbs, cucumber, avocado and a spicy mayo. The firecracker Signature Sushi roll which contains kanikama, cream cheese, avocado, fried and sweet soy. We also opted for 8 pieces of shrimp tempura served with white rice. We complete the meal with these drinks, sake and house Cabernet Sauvignon red wine.

Absolutely terrible service. If you want to be treated terribly by the hostess before you even sit down and have a terrible experience: go here. If there happens to be anyone from corporate reading this, the hostess on duty at 1pm on 12/25/22 should never have a job where she has to deal with the public. Will never go here again because of her. Rude to every customer waiting for a table.

As a whole Wasabi left us unimpressed. We were rushed to finish ordering within 20 minutes of sitting for our 8:15 pm Friday dinner reservation, with « last call » for orders of drinks or rolls @ 8:40. Hot sake and miso soup were lukewarm & the beer was semi-cold. The green salad was soggy & came with only spiraled carrots and a ponzu « dressing » which tasted more like just soy sauce poured over the greens. Sad . Cuts of fish were prepared & cut less than skillfully, making some bites of the hand rolls and cut rolls a bit mushy. Bill was close to $200 with gratuity, but the meal felt rushed and ultimately very mediocre. In addition to the dining, the bathroom was a a mess & they had not replenished the T.P. in the one working women’s restroom stall. Save your sushi dollars for another day.

After a long day at Universal Studio Hollywood, our party of 5 was starving. While walking down City Walk we collectively craved Sushi and luckily enough Wasabi had a short wait. Upon getting our seats. We were greeted by our server, MICHAEL K., who really created an experience that warrants a return! He started by bringing water for our group as we took our seats. He was very patient as we had many questions about the menu and even asked us questions to narrow down what best would suit us. His expert knowledge of the menu came with excellent suggestions, and we were all so happy with the choices. We enjoyed some ramen, gyoza, and especially the FlamingStar Roll! Universal was a Magical experience, however, Michael K and his friendly demeanor and willingness to interact and ask about our day make this experience all the more special. We will be telling all our friends that visit Universal to come to Wasabi afterward and hopefully have their day made by having Michael K, as a server. Wasabi, Citywalk, Universal! Give this man a raise for all he is doing!

Excellent service and food was really good! My husband and I came here after spending a full day at Universal studios and we were both craving for something soupy to soothe our throats. We were so happy to have found this restaurant that serves soupy noodles and there wasn’t a long waiting time!
The texture of the udon was chewy and the soup broth was really tasty! Not too blend and not too overpowering.
I ordered the hot green tea as well and it was refillable! They even pack one to-go cup for me which was really nice.
Thank you for the pleasant experience!

Had an excellent dinner here today. We are here on vacation and decided last minute to take in a movie and wanted somewhere to eat that was close and not park food. Our server Pedro was amazing, made some wonderful recommendations and some great conversation. Highly recommend the Marilyn Monroll. If you like spice it was top notch!

The tnt roll was the best. Get it. Our waitress, Luzby, was so above and beyond - our sushi took a little while because the restaurant was really busy and everybody was ordering sushi, so she kept us supplied with amazing iced tea/lemonades. This place was great.

We arrived at this restaurant at 8pm, and had a 20 min wait and was seated outside. (which is ok). But then ordered 3 plates of sushi, and all got water because they were out of everything else. We waited until 9:30pm when we decided to ask if our food was almost done which she responded it should be out any minute. About 30 minutes later, i grabbed the waitress to ask for the status, she began to inform us that they hadn’t even started making our dishes. When we got seated we had told them we had a prior commitment and only had a 2 hour time frame to eat, and we thought sushi would be quick and easy. It’s disappointing that we had to leave our table to get our server to speak to us and inform us on updates. We left with no food and irresponsible faculty.

I went to this restaurant on a Friday night and was disappointed. First off we were treated poorly by the hostess, who told us our table was ready but then had us wait so they can wipe it down before we sat. Our waiter was nice, he took our order and left. We received our appetizers the chicken dumplings were good but our fried calamari was terrible! It was tough to chew and the batter was burnt. Another waitress arrived at our table brought out my food and another dish in her hand and kept repeating the name of the roll to us in a rude manner even though we had already told her no one ordered that, then just walked away. The rest of the food took so long to come out. We kept getting different waiters so each of them were confused about what was already asked for. I asked a waiter if he could please bring wasabi and soy sauce out, he brought only three sides of wasabi (we were a party of four) and said that he did not want to bring more out because people just waist it, he never brought the soy sauce we had to ask another waiter for it. We asked one of the waiters to turn the outside heaters he agreed to do so, after about 10 min he came back to our table and said he needed to run down to grab a new propane tank (which he could’ve done during the time he was gone) we said that was fine and he left again. We waited another 15 min or so before he came back and said it was going to take about 25 min for him to grab the tank, im guessing he didn’t want to do it so he was expecting us to say never mind. It was cold out so we said that was fine and he then walked away. My sister ordered a tuna roll that came with crunchy onion pieces on top, the onions were burnt looked like they had been fried in old dirty oil. We finished our meal and the heater was finally turned on (too late) our original waiter came back and we asked for the bill. He brought it out to us and left, we waited about 10 min for someone to come grab our debit card, no one came. So we walked up to the hostess so he could do so (he did in a rude way). Overall food was okay but service was terrible! Don’t waste time or money here. Bubba gump will be worth the wait!!

The worst experience ever!!!
Don’t recommend.
First of all they didn’t bring the food as we ordered, no wasabi no ginger only when we asked, chicken teriyaki is the worst once we had… food is low quality and service sucks…
Don’t spend you money here! If you don’t believe check your self!!!

With Citywalk, its going to be expected there's low quality, high prices for food even if its just a walk away from the main universal studios entrance... But here they got as close as they could. Theres options for indoor or outdoor dining with patio heaters and friendly hostess who can help set up reservations and larger groups.
Once inside it's a pretty cozy atmosphere! Until you look at the laminated 1 piece menu that has a teriyaki dinner priced around $28... I think a $8 coupon can help here...
Even though the waiter we had very nice, service was slow from getting the drinks to ordering. The waiter was nice in letting us know the progress and apologize for any delays! Even though there was some clumsy moments from another waiter spilling plates, I'm glad that every waiter and employee came to help as soon as they can, and was positive as possible and worry later!
Once I got my teriyaki beef dinner, taste was pretty charred and flavorful from the meat itself to the teriyaki sause it s dripped in! The vegetables were raw so they were just okay at best...
Overall I think this experience was just all right with a little bit on the pricey side as expected on citywalk, but tries to close the gap by its service and atmosphere!

Had an OK expirence overpriced for the quality of sushi. Server was overwhelmed but its not her fault as they were short staffed. Will probably not try again.

Somewhat disorganized trying to seat people. Our waiter did not go out of his way to be friendly but got the job done. Ordered the teriyaki chicken. Value was good, way to much for me to eat. Overall the experience was fine.

Food was fine.
Service was fine.
Music was offensive and vulgar.
Served my 11 yo last, 15 minutes after all other food came out...
Not a restaurant for families.
Suggested Tip rates are based on total, should be on subtotal. Standard.
*Edit:
1) our server took the late roll off the check.
2) they changed the music after some tim.

Good ambiance. Great service.
Tried for the first time since their reopening. We had the Lemondrop. Food was excellent but prices are a bit steep. If you are determined to stay close to Universal Studios and you like sushi then this is definitely a place for you!!
If you can go out a little further then try SUGARFISH. Prices are comparable but you definitely get a higher quality of fish and variety.

Menu option is quite limited on sushi, I recommend going to Daichan , which is not too far away but it requires driving. I recommend USDA prime ribeye teriyaki dinner. The steak is very tender and I have no idea how rib eye can be so soft.

You're in California, maybe a tourist? You're looking for a great Sushi place. You look at what is around/within a reasonable drive and think to yourself, it's in a "theme park" style destination. Surely it's just "ok". WRONG. This place was hands down the best sushi and service I had throughout our 2 week trip. And getting in as much fresh sushi as possible was on my "Visiting Cali" bucket list. The place was busy but I itially I just wanted a little Nigiri snack since it was our last night before flying home. A snack turned into a beautiful spread of gorgeous fish which even my husband (who is still tip toeing into raw fish) ended up sharing with me because he enjoyed the few bites I had initially ordered so much. YANIN was our server and had this knack of perfect timing. He was there when you needed him and let you be when you didn't. He clearly pays great attention and reads his customers well. (My husband and I are both from a restaurant management background). We got a Tuna sashimi Sampler and a Salmon sashimi Sampler. You may look at the price and think "ehh a bit steep" but once to receive the dishes, the flavours and the generous cuts tell you why. To be honest the Unagi and Yellowtail Nigiri was the BEST Ive ever had. Melt in your mouth beautiful cuts. We sat at the Sushi Bar and loved watching the Chefs prepare the Sushi dishes shouting "welcome!" in unison in Japanese when they noticed people coming theough the door. Such incredible talent and finesse. If I visit California again I will go out of my way to go back. Without hesitation

Terminator roll and lemon drop roll were absolutely delicious! Service can be a little slow so if you like to be waited on I'd suggest going a little earlier in the day or on off hours that wouldn't usually have others eating their meals. Don't get the flaming star not worth imo.

Not the widest selection of sushi but the staff have always been extremely gracious and friendly. I have always felt welcome, and during these difficult times it still has that.

We waited for about 40 minutes in line after leaving universal studios a bit earlier than closing time. They did seem understaffed but they staff they did have were friendly. Some of our food items were torched Infront of us which was pretty cool too. Delicious food honestly

The taste was good, but the attitude of the female staff who took the order was terrible. She got upset when I asked her that she had a wrong order. We had no choice but to eat it. Each of us said what we wanted to eat (universal roll and kirin roll), but she suggested another type of roll because they were similar. We disagreed, but she didn't accept it.
It's expensive and waited for a long time. It's okay for wait becouse we really looked foward it. But really dissapointed of service. I think she should repeat the order to confirm. In addition, the table was dirty.
