My friend Tammy has been raving about @noma.sushi for the last couple years to me. She has been dining here since 2006. The Noma Sashimi is a favorite. The quality was delicious in every bite. Also, the Black cod hit the spot with its miso glaze. I would get two orders of this next time. I really enjoyed the Chirashi. The rice was perfectly seasoned. Another two that you must try is the Kanpachi Carpaccio and Black Truffle Salmon.

We were very impressed with the ambiance, service, and food at Noma. When you walk by, it's an unassuming restaurant from the street, because you can see what's going on inside. The mystery that awaits beyond the door will transport you to another time; the interior decor is full of quaint Japanese decor and wood finishes that give you a classic vibe, complemented with a light dose of modern jazz and instrumental covers that combines old and new world charm. The chefs are mostly Japanese and they take their role in serving you very seriously. The service was very professional; they never spoke to much or too little, just enough to be effective and allow you to continue your conversation without the niceties that most places have that tend to kill you with kindness.
We had the bay scallop, fatty salmon, and tuna sushi which melted in your mouth. The rice was just perfect on all of the pieces, not overly moist, yet firm and unadulterated. The scallops were sweet and fragrant, the salmon tasted better than anything I've had, and the tuna did not taste spongy like many others I've tried. The baked crab roll did not look like much, but all the flavors and real non-imitation crab was something very unique and worth a try. The kumamoto oysters were above average, but topped with house sauce and garnish that added more texture and flavor profile. Most of all the oysters were not ice cold, which I feel masks unsavory flavors at lower end restaurants. Lastly the eel avocado and and salmon avocado rolls seem basic, but this is where they prove how good they are. If they can make something basic into something extravagant, you know they are good. We've had eel avocado and salmon avocado rolls in the past, but this was among the better renditions.

I wish the customer service here was better. They are extremely rude at the front - I come here every few weeks for takeout or dine in and they are always dismissive and ignore a line of people. The waitstaff is usually good once you’re seated, but the host stand treats guests terribly. The food is very good but the experience always leaves a sour taste in my mouth, regardless of if it is very busy or empty.

Good sushi but the staff is extremely rude. I ordered $70 of sushi for pickup/takeout, and when I asked for an extra side of ginger, the hostess wanted to charge me EXTRA for this (Lydia?). Also, this was picking up one night during the LA wildfires and the hostess told me to wait outside for my order. Keep in mind the AQI was >140 and ash was falling from the sky. When I walked back inside to ask when my order would be ready, she fully walked by me and ignored me. Restaurant was at ~30 capacity.

Fantastic value for how delicious all their sushi and rolls are. Can't go wrong with anything. The Hawaiian roll is a nice twist and also their tempura is light and not heavy.

The 2 of us had a variety of the cut rolls (scallop roll, california roll, salmon avocado roll and spicy tuna roll). They were fresh and delicious. The atmosphere was warm and comfortable. We went on a Saturday night and while the wait time for a table was 20 to 45 minutes, the wait to sit at the sushi bar was less than 10 minutes. The staff was friendly and we had great service. The prices were fair and we will be going again!

The place was absolutely FILTHY starting off with the rest rooms being DISGUSTING, and not only that the food was either rotten or it had gone bad and they still served it without hesitation because of this my child got stomach issues and, when i complained they did not take any action and told us to leave

I've been a loyal customer of this sushi spot, ordering takeout about twice a month because their sushi is very good indeed. However, the pickup process has been a constant source of frustration. The staff's unfriendly attitude and the requirement to wait outside in the parking lot, rain or shine, have always been off-putting.
Today's experience, unfortunately, was the final straw. Forty minutes after my scheduled pickup time, I was still waiting in the parking lot, shivering in the cold. Fed up, I decided to break their "no entry" rule and stepped inside. To my disbelief, I found my order sitting there alongside seven others, all ready and waiting while we customers were left out in the cold – literally.
While the quality of the sushi has been consistently good, it's not enough to make up for the abysmal customer service. The combination of long wait times, inhospitable pickup conditions, and apparent indifference to prepared orders sitting idle is simply unacceptable. As much as I'll miss their Japanese uni, I've decided it's time to bid farewell to Noma. Great food can only compensate for so much, and in this case, it's no longer worth the hassle.

The woman who answers the phone has to be one of the rudest people. Called to see if they take reservations and she hung up on me. All she could of said was, “no”. I called back thinking we got disconnected and the put me on hold and then hung up. Kindness goes a long way-

I am writing to express my complete dissatisfaction with my recent visit to your establishment. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted by the incredibly filthy restrooms, which were in dire need of cleaning and maintenance.
To make matters worse, the food served was either rotten or had gone bad, yet it was still offered without any concern. As a result, my brother became ill with stomach issues shortly after eating, which was both upsetting and alarming.
When I raised these concerns with your staff, they were completely unresponsive and took no action to resolve the issue. Instead of addressing the situation, I was asked to leave, which only added to the frustration and disappointment.
This experience was not only uncomfortable but also raised serious concerns about the safety of your customers. I strongly urge you to take immediate steps to improve the cleanliness of your facilities and the quality of the food being served.
I expect a prompt response to this complaint and trust that you will take the necessary steps to prevent such incidents in the future.

I called in an order today, the lady was rude & said “ we don’t take orders over the phone & it has to be online ONLY !” & hung up on me .. I tried to call back, I got a voicemail, I still ordered online, I got there on my scheduled time , they made me stand outside, where it was freezing .. I waited over 10 minutes my scheduled time, I walked in, I told her “ please it’s freezing out there , can I wait here ?” She told me she will send someone to turn on the heater outside, no one ever came.. she finally gave me my order , I tried to upload the video here & couldn’t, the mixed tempura was NOT COOKED & YELLOW & Soggy .. it was disgusting , vegetables were undercooked, I used to love this place, little bye little I noticed its food is getting worse.. I’m very disappointed

I went yesterday to pick up two orders and there was this Asian lady who I’m pretty sure is the manager and she was very rude. I told her I had a pick up and she made me wait outside in the cold and made me wait like almost 30 minutes for the food and then as I’m halfway through my way home, I realize she gave me the wrong order and so I had to go back and instead of apologizing, she goes ahead and tries to justify her mistake and tries to blame it on me and it’s like you clearly don’t have good customer service like I don’t have to go to your restaurant, I can go to any other restaurant which I will be doing, but that woman should not be a manager and should not be running a business if she does not know how to be nice to her customers.

I came here for the first time with my boyfriend. The wait wasn't bad but when the server came up to us for drinks she immediately told my boyfriend "were you drinking? Are you drunk?" Mind you he was completely sober, quiet, and asked for one asahii beer with a glass of water. I was taken back by this since it felt invasive and rude but shrugged it off. The food was decent, but a little overpriced. When we were done and paying for the check, our waitress was hovering and after I handed her the receipt with the tip, she asked if we didn't like the service which I thought was okay besides her earlier remark. She then starts to say this tip isn't okay and to write a bigger tip! She kept repeating herself. I told her to let me talk to my boyfriend since he was in the restroom. She was awkwardly standing there waiting for him to come out. I've never felt so uncomfortable at a restaurant, I was put on the spot. He then comes out and gives her some cash. Never spending a single dime here again. I would rather go to mon roll sushi on Broadway where they have excellent customer service, and not leave with a bitter taste in my mouth.

I happen to love their sushi. Very simple and authentic. However, ordering takeout is not a very smooth process. You wait forever once you’re there (on-time.) They do not allow you inside which I get. People are crowded around waiting to be seated and/or for pickups. There is no one outside to help organize or facilitate which I guess is the main issue. Eventually someone comes out and then takes a while to come back with your order. There is an iPad outside for people to sign or check themselves in for a waitlist. And if you go inside to ask a question you are answered with a rude attitude (I’ve tried on a couple different occasions giving the benefit of the doubt of an “off” day.) it seems like a small place so I get it but there could be a smoother process in my opinion. Luckily I enjoy their sushi so it’s worth it once in a while but hopefully this can be improved.

The food here is good. This is in regards to their online order system/phone customer service. Toast will double charge and then not put the order through to restaurant. When you call for pick up they will place you on extended holds and likely will hang up on you. At least that’s what the gentleman I spoke with did. Not the best service for the best sushi on the west side.

We've been going here for a few years now and we went for my husband's birthday last night, and the food wasn't as good as it use to be. I ordered sashimi (12pc) and they used too many lemon slices, they placed lemon slices almost in between every sashimi & the sashimi tasted too lemon-y it was not pleasant. The service was disappointing. Ive noticed the waiters constantly checking on other tables and they came by to take our order, drop off the food and for check out. Overall it was a very disappointing experience at Noma for the first time.

Please avoid ordering takeout from Noma (like many of the other recent reviews have stated!!!)
I’ve been a customer for many years but this past year they’ve SEVERELY deprioritized takeout orders. If you order online, they will make you wait outside for 30 minutes to bring out your order (even though I saw my order ready at the to-go table with my name written in big font size - by the time someone gave me my takeout, the food was cold). They have customers waiting outside, but staff will only check on the outside waiting area approx once every half hour. If you try to go inside to ask about your order, the female asian server will very aggressively chase you out.
If you try to phone order, they’ll ask you to come to the restaurant to physically order. I tried that today, and they ended up ignoring me every time they came outside (they came out only to call for dine-in customers). After waiting for 20 minutes, I called their number (can’t believe it came down to this) and asked since I’m outside, can someone come out to help take my to-go order… she hung up on me!
The sharp decline in customer service has been really disappointing. Perhaps management can get rid of takeout orders, but at least clearly communicate this to customers instead of wasting people’s time!

We've been coming here for years. It's my wife's favorite spot for Japanese food in Santa Monica. Sadly, something has changed. We ordered 2 3-piece bento boxes and had some green tea. The lunch price for this was almost $70.00. Overall, the seasonings were diluted. My wife had black cod with miso and the flavor was so slight, bland really. I had tempura with vegetables (one shrimp) and the sauce was so watery I had to add soy sauce to it. Also had the chicken cutlet which was badly overcooked. I couldn't eat it and mentioned it to my server. They asked if I wanted them to make it again and I declined. I just wanted it deleted from my check. My wife heard management talking in Korean about it. They said it would "be better for us to remake it". So after I declined that, the item was not removed from my check. We just paid with no further comments and will not be coming back. Bottom line is it feels like they're cutting corners, raising price, and the food is suffering. Sad to see.

A Culinary Delight - 5 Stars for Noma Sushi in Santa Monica!
Rating: ★★★★★
Review:
My recent dining experience at Noma Sushi in Santa Monica was nothing short of exceptional, and I’m delighted to leave a glowing 5-star review for this outstanding restaurant!
From the moment I stepped inside, I was met with warm and attentive service. The staff went above and beyond to ensure a delightful dining experience, making me feel truly welcomed and valued as a guest.
The sushi at Noma is simply divine! The veggie roll was a delightful medley of fresh, flavorful vegetables, perfectly crafted into a work of art. The bento box with chicken teriyaki was equally outstanding, with tender, succulent chicken cooked to perfection. Each dish was a delectable journey for the taste buds, leaving me craving for more.
The ambiance of the restaurant added to the overall charm of the experience. The soothing atmosphere allowed me to relax and enjoy my meal thoroughly. It’s the perfect spot for a delightful meal with friends or a romantic dinner with a loved one.
The miso soup and salad were delightful appetizers, setting the tone for the culinary journey that followed. The hot tea was a lovely complement to the meal, adding a touch of warmth and comfort.
I genuinely appreciate the attentive service provided by the staff, making my dining experience all the more enjoyable. Their dedication to ensuring the comfort of their guests did not go unnoticed, and I extend my heartfelt thanks to the entire team.
In conclusion, Noma Sushi in Santa Monica is a culinary gem that deserves every bit of praise. Whether you’re a sushi lover or simply appreciate delicious Japanese cuisine, this restaurant will undoubtedly leave a lasting impression.
I am already looking forward to my return visit to Noma Sushi, eager to explore more of their delightful menu offerings. Thank you, Noma Sushi, for the delightful culinary journey and exceptional service! Bravo to the entire team for creating a truly unforgettable dining experience.

Very disappointed with the way we were treated upon arrival. They didn’t care about our business or about keeping their word when they told us to wait a couple minutes. A couple minutes turned into 30 minutes and rather than apologizing I was showing the door. I will NEVER become back to this establishment apparently they feel they have enough business. I’ve been a customer here for over 15 years and they’ve lost my business as well as my friends and family. THE FOOD AT KANPAI is far superior and is right down the street. We also had the oysters which was really good but I will say not my top 10. Mostly due to the sauce.

We normally order take out from this place. Great Sushi. Tonight we deicide to dine in. It was a terrible experience. Their front host is very unpleasant and down right rude person. She said her name is Lidia and that she is a manager. She is an older (short) Asian woman. She will make you wait outside without no smile or any politeness. If she is not at the front desk and you step inside- no one else will help you- or even acknowledge you. When my 4 year old daughter wanted to hold my and look at a table together- she rudely tells us to wait outside as we will be in the way. This place apparently relies on its good sushi so they don't have to provide good service. Until more folks like us write a review so it does effect a change by the ownership.

Was a bit hesitant about trying this restaurant after reading all the mixed reviews here. I was looking for a kid friendly sushi place for me and my toddler. We came here on Tuesday, at 3pm. They have nice patio area outside. It's wasn't too busy.
The service was great and accommodating. I forgot my face mask in my car and they provided me with one. I asked for a high chair for my kid and the waiter even cleaned and wiped it before letting my kid sit in it.
We had the veggie roll and the California roll. Both tasted great. They didn't charge me for the side of teriyaki sauce (if you eat and order sushi often, you know that most places do charge you like a dollar for it).
They have both outdoor and indoor dining but because it's so dark inside the restaurant, we chose to sit outside.

Told me my order must be placed online no over the phone orders or store orders due to covid. .. and hung up on me.. now my calls go str8 to vmail.. you can't get covid over the phone.. making anyone that wants food from here pay 3rd party service just to eat they food.. it's pretty petty.
Horrible.. needs to be shutdown

If I could give zero stars I would. Myself, sister in law, and our three kids put our name on the list at 630pm. They took our name and number down and told us it would be an hour. We waited and when all these parties started to go past us we wanted to make sure we hadn't been passed. The woman at the stand refused to help clarify. When I was finally able to ask her to check the list and make sure we weren't forgotten she told me no go outside and flipped her clipboard over. Every time we tried to ask her nicely she would cut us off in the rudest manner I've ever been spoken to. It was absolutely disgusting. If she's not the owner I would definitely rethink her being a face of the establishment if she is the owner I cannot believe you think you can talk to anyone like that let alone someone you're trying to earn business from.

I'm sure the food and atmosphere is fine at this particular Japanese oriented sushi restaurant. My problem is I can't stand organizations that aren't customer-centric.
When I arrived about 8 minutes ahead of my friend for lunch, they refused to seat me alone at the sushi bar to begin ordering food and having sake. They would have made their money, we would have been out in under an hour and I would have been a happy customer.
I went a block down to Kampai and had a wonderful lunch with no headaches!

Been here atleast a dozen times and it never disappoints. Good place for a first or second date. Sushi is fresh, staff is attentive. Everyone behind the sushi bar greets you when you come in. Beer and wine are available and for Santa Monica, it's fairly affordable. I keep coming back because it's just a great spot all around.

Extremely disappointing customer service. Highly recommend another place.

Got a takeout order
Ordered online (prices are ~4-5% higher than at the restaurant and they add 11% tip mandatory, for pickup).
It said 1 hour wait time to be ready, no problem.
I call 30 min before to check in on the order, and they say it'll take 10 minutes longer, no problem. Before i hang up, they mention 2 items were unavailable so they would remove them (instead of calling me when they found out to find a replacement).
I show up 1hr15 min after placing the order (5 min after they told me it would be ready). It wasn't. Had to wait another 15 minutes to get the order, staff was unfriendly (clearly overworked, with dozens of people outside waiting to be seated and waiting for their orders, i feel bad for the staff).
When i open the order, i notice one of the items was incorrect (sushi, fresh water eel instead of sea eel, which is a far inferior product, also cheaper).
The eggplant (nasu dengaku) was half cooked. Inedible.
The maki rolls (spicy tuna and spicy salmon) were insipid and made with haste. The rice on the california style spicy tuna was rolled with no attention, it was flakey and came off. I am by no means a sushi chef and have made better rolls at home.
There was also a SHARP PIECE OF BAMBOO in the maki and i impaled my pallet. Fun times.
The yellowtail jalapeño was good, but $26++ for 6 small slices of yellowtail is exorbitant. It wasn't anything special. The "fatty tuna sushi" was definitely not Toro or anything like that. Not worth $25++ for 2 pieces.
The wasabi was almost melting from having way too much water in it.
All in all, a mediocre experience. I would be fine with this quality at a fast food sushi place. Unfortunately this was $150 for 2 people. Kitchen is clearly overwhelmed (restaurant was full, with a long line outside to sit down as well as to pick up orders, 3 orders were picked up while i waited).
I cannot recommend this place at all. Very disappointed, was looking forward to a fancy sushi night.

Loved the wide selection of sushi and sashimi they had.
Their edamame was out of this world. It was spicy and delicious.
I tried a few different types of sushi and sashimi but loved the baked salmon rolls so much.

Great sushi and value. Be patient if they are busy, it’s worth it… the lady who runs it at the front is a boss

No flaws, food quality comparable to really high-end sushi but a bit more affordable. Would highly recommend exploring interesting options on the menu.

We all used to gather at the Noma sushi bar a few times a week and have a great time. Today, we ordered food to take out. Mid day. The place was empty. The nasty hostess told us to wait outside. What? We were great customers. And it was freezing outdoors. Why couldn't we wait at the sushi bar? We refused to stand in the cold, and left. One of the servers told us that since the place was under new management, there have been lots of complaints. Here's another one.

Best sushi in Santa Monica. Miso soup and seaweed salad are also amazing. I recommend the special rolls, like Santa Monica, Tornado and Rainbow. Calm atmosphere and attentive service.

Food used to be better but now it is just ok, some of the cooked food was undercooked. The service was terrible the host and several waiters were very rude. Worse yet, they rush you to order, bring your food out very quickly, and push you to leave, not right for a fine dining experience.

so inhumane. the Manager LYDIA wouldn't let my 93 year old mom in from the cold while waiting for them to set up our table for 11 at 330 pm. NOT EVEN BUSY YET. Really NOMA?! so rude and condescending - rudely brushed me off when I asked to just let my mom in.

Rudest staff ever. DEMANDED that I tip her. Will never visit this place again. Sushi tastes good but the one waitress was just a disgrace 👎

Absolutely delicious sushi and amazing service! This place was surprisingly busy and had good vibes on a Thursday night around 6-8. While there we randomly experienced a power outage and the staff was so nice and helped us pay our bill anyways. I recommend the hungry roll, caterpillar roll, and the Alaskan roll.

The most ridiculously rude service I have experienced. Sat at 6:30 , by 8 pm atleast 8 different times we were told we needed to leave because they needed the table. We were not even done eating desert. Charged full price for a meal we couldn’t even finish. Plenty of Sushi choices in the west side. Won’t be returning.

Excellent quality food in an unassuming environment. Quite impressed with the quality of the fish and the presentation. Even with inflation busting budgets the value here is strong. Excellent tea as well.

Sushi spot in Santa Monica that’s good for grabbing a casual weeknight dinner. Came here on a Wednesday around 6pm and got seated immediately (note that your entire party needs to be present). We split an order of tempura udon and sushi ensemble (with spicy tuna rolls for $1 more). I really liked the udon, and the tempura was freshly fried and not oily. The sushi ensemble came with different cuts of fish so it’s a good option if you want variety. They do have lunch specials.
There’s a tiny parking lot as well as metered street parking. The restrooms were out of order when we were there. Credit cards accepted. Indoor dining only.

This place was one of our “to go” sushi places since we live near by but we all agreed that will never go back there again unfortunately. Somebody need to teach the hostess in the front some manners, she is extremely rude and unprofessional. She is always pointing with her finger commanding to stand wherever she tells you to outside! If you God Forbid walked in for example to wash your hands while waiting outside, or you went in to let them know you want a table OR you’re asking to sit at the bar since it’s completely empty - she will again order with her finger for you to go back outside immediately and will ROLL HER EYES . She did the same thing twice and both times me and my family walked away and never came back. Plus i was overcharged to my credit card and their phone number never answer I’ve been calling for a month now, just don’t want to go there and meet that crazy lady at the front again

So delicious. We really loved the food here. Sushi was super fresh!! The service was sort of spotty, and they forgot to bring us an order, but I would come again. Great little spot and super cozy!

Ordered bento box. One of the items was tempura. But it was not crunchy. It was very soggy. Majority of the things we ordered arrived cold to the table. They let things get out of hand with some patrons drinking roo much and getting extremely loud to the point I was unable to hear my friends at our table. Not a bad place. But overall I wouldn't go back there again.

30 minutes before closing time they said they already did Last Call for dine-in. I said could I get something to go and they said sorry we're starting to wrap up the food. They said this without even offering anything or checking what might not be put away. It false advertising if you don't close until 10:00 p.m. In addition front of house person was rude about the delivery of information.

Sadly it seems they have closed.
Been going there for years.
Was hoping to celebrate my father's 90th birthday there. Very sad.
UPDATE
They are not closed, they are just no longer answering their phone. I went in person to make arrangements for my father's birthday and was told they do not take reservations for the weekend. I was told to "just show up". Kind of sad what has happened to this place. Fortunately Kanpai was more than happy to make arrangements for my father's birthday.

I’ve never been to a sushi place that won’t give a side order of Siracha sauce to use on our $100 to go order. I asked 2x and they said no, we don’t give it for to go orders. Needless to say our $100 was wasted and 99% went in the trash. I just asked for a tiny bit but they refused. Never again! Sushi was very bland and not appetizing. Maybe it was because they were about to close and we got old food. We eat Sushi in Vegas all the time and it never tastes like this.

Recommended by our hotel front desk.
Walk-in before 7pm.
The receptionist was not very clear in instructions and is a bit brash but it might be because it is a busy night.
Waited a bit but once in, service was quick and good they have a small "attachment" for chopsticks that makes it easier for non-chopsticks user.
Got 2 bento meals and 1 udon dish. Ordered the sashimi also. All sushi included and ordered were very fresh.
Miso and salad with the bento was yummy!
Got 3 items for the bento so very full after. I would order the 2 items next round.
Will go again.
