A little on the expensive side, but a fun experience overall. Large set of rules, but main rule is 2 ordinary items per special item. Fairly tasty overall. Small line but not horrible.

Ultra Sushi is an all-you-can-eat sushi spot with a somewhat relaxed atmosphere. The food is decent overall, though there are a few standout dishes. If you order sushi rolls, the rice might taste a bit too vinegary for some. However, if you go for sashimi or nigiri, you’ll get some of the best quality options they offer. On the downside, the teriyaki beef was awful and not recommended.

One of the waiters is terrible. He put the receipt on the top of my food, and grabbed the tip of my chopsticks with gloves on after cleaning the neighboring table.

And why are there so many rules of all you can eat? You cannot order more than three at a time. Only one starred food per order. No more than three times on the same food.

And very expensive

We were uncertain about how this Ayce sushi restaurant would be but it turned out very well. For each starred item, you must pick two regular items but you can eat all you want. The size of the cuts of sashimi depends on the chef so there was variation in the cuts of fish. Also the first pieces were smaller and the later pieces were much bigger. The quality of the fish was very good and so we were happily surprised. Service was very quick and good, there was a fast turnaround after we ordered. The food came quickly and then we got an iPad for our next order. Oh yes, the mussels were tasteless so skip that!!!

Our team recently visited this restaurant for a team offsite and enjoyed the “all you can eat” experience. Overall, it was a good experience with high cost-effectiveness, and the food quality was generally decent. However, we noticed a few areas that could be improved:

1. Seafood quality: The quality of the seafood, especially the raw items, was below expectations. While most of the dishes were satisfactory, the seafood, particularly the raw options, didn’t meet the expected freshness and quality standards.
2. Ordering process: We understand that the restaurant aims to prevent food waste, but later in the meal, the ordering process became somewhat complicated. There were combination requirements that made it difficult for us to order exactly what we wanted. This sometimes left us either not ordering anything or choosing dishes that weren’t our preferred options, which affected the overall experience.
3. Service: The service was quite good overall. The staff were friendly and professional throughout the meal. Despite the complexity of the ordering system, they remained positive and helpful.

We think the restaurant offers a nice dining experience, but there’s room for improvement, especially regarding seafood quality and the flexibility of the ordering process. We hope these areas can be refined for an even better experience in the future.

Arguably one of the best ayce sushi spots I’ve tried. There is unlimited hot sake, and a large variety of high quality seafood.

For 45.99 per person (+ tax, tip), you get raw oysters, uni, tuna toro ngiri, salmon sake belly ngiri, hamachi belly ngiri - all of which are typically the most expensive cuts of the fish. In addition to sushi, they also serve short rib and fried soft shell crab.

Note that there were some weird rules to ordering to limit the quantity of the premium items on the menu. For every person, they can add up to 3 items per to order - two regular items for every premium item. The regular orders were easily feasible with sashimi.

2.0Stars
Ultra Sushi

Pros:
+ Affordable Deal: For $40+, you get all-you-can-eat sushi and sake (Japanese rice wine). It's a great value if you’re looking to indulge in quantity over quality.

Cons:
- Unprofessional Presentation:
There’s no way to distinguish the servers from the chefs or even the customers since everyone wears casual street clothes. It’s confusing and unprofessional to see so many people behind the sushi counter—are they all chefs?

- The Waiting Game:
1. You wait a long time for a server to bring an iPad for ordering.
2. You place your order, and then the iPad is taken away.
3. You wait a long time for your food to arrive.
4. You finally eat your food.
5. The process repeats, dragging the experience out.

Before you even finish, the server warns you that your time is almost up, forcing you to rush your last ordering while still hungry!

- Inconsistent Sushi Portions:
Avoid the 20pcs chef’s sushi special. It arrives as a random pile of sushi in inconsistent sizes, with pieces ranging from 2 inches to as small as 0.5 inches (counts as 1pcs). This lack of consistency reflects poorly on the restaurant’s quality standards.

- Long Waits and Rushed Experience:
The waiting time is excessive, and the limited time for eating makes the experience feel rushed. You can’t help but wonder whether the restaurant is more focused on maximizing turnover and profits rather than providing a quality dining experience.

Conclusion
While the all-you-can-eat deal is enticing, the disorganization, long waits, and rushed dining experience detract from the enjoyment. The inconsistent sushi portions and lack of professionalism make it clear that profit seems to be the priority over food quality. If you value a relaxing and well-prepared sushi meal, this place is likely to disappoint.

Sushi was delicious, fish was good quality and rolls were crafted beautifully. Would easily be 5 stars except :
-Waiting area was dirty with spiders visible
-Coke syrup was out, never got a refill
-Some rolls came out right away, some took 20+ minutes. Made it hard since you can only order so much at a time
- It’s way overpriced
- We ordered Sake which never came
- You can only order the “star items” at a 1:2 ratio to the non premium items, meaning you can’t order something like 2 Sake Belly Nigiri unless you add in two filler items

Came here for a birthday party and I realized how few AYCE sushi spots I know of in the Bay Area!

On a Sunday evening at 6:30pm, there were plenty of people. The design of the store is beautiful. The ambiance was funny because they played Drum and Bass and several hardcore EDM sets throughout the night.

Our table had over 10 people and the service was pretty quick. I think it's smart to have the iPad system so people can keep track of their orders. I also think it's fine to have the one "gourmet" item and two "regular" item system.

I don't recommend anything involving rice besides the nigiri as they pack too much of it (hand rolls and regular rolls). I found the "unique" to be too salty and drowned in sauce, so I used my extra rice to eat with this. We wanted to try the chef's choice sashimi but we were worried about getting fish we didn't like, so be mindful of that before ordering. Here's what I ordered:

- uni nigiri
- tobiko nigiri
- takoyaki
- karaage
- seaweed salad
- mixed tempura
- hamachi carpaccio
- salmon sashimi
- salmon avocado hand roll
- spicy tuna hand roll
- fish crush (this came on fried seaweed and not a shiso leaf, sad :c)
- albacore tataki
- salmon carpaccio

I didn't try the skewers (robata) but my meat-loving cousins enjoyed them a lot. The portions aren't too big so you can order several.

The sake kept on coming too!

All in all it was a nice experience for my cousin's birthday and good to know of a spot for AYCE sushi once in a while in the Bay Area now!

For the price, it's great (for now). The uni was clearly not fresh, but the rest of everything was pretty good. There is a few things confusing about the menu as some menu items negate others on the "all you can eat option". We ordered three seaweed salads but only got one. Only at the wnd did we realize that they had the apptiers of edamane and seaweed salad on a bar very close to us and they simply forgot because maybe they have a dedicated person get that instead of the things from the kitchen.

Food quality is alright, was not happy with the service. Service is slow and the waitress did not look like she wanted to be there. She had a “ok whatever” type of attitude. I also did not like the ordering rules. We had ipads to order but they are taken away in between rounds. You can only order 3 of each dish PER TABLE. So if everyone wanted to order salmon nigiri you can’t. Only 3 “per round”. Also only 3 options per person, per round. We had a table of 9 so it was just so inefficient. We asked to split the table and they didn’t allow us. They said you have to have a party of 12 or more to split tables. Kind of weird because you can just sit separately in the beginning. If we would have known how the service and ordering rules were, we would’ve split tables.

All you can eat sushi and drink sake. The Hamachi carpacchio was delicious ordered 3 times. Miyagi oyster, soft shell crab, and seaweed salad for appetizers, Sashimi omakase plate. Ikura, Tobiko, Unagi, Toro, Sake, Sake belly, Hotate, Hamachi, Hamachi belly nigiri all excellent! Also ordered a few Robata dishes, lamb, beef, squid, chicken gizzard, and pork belly. I want to rave about this place, but I simply cannot. The staff was all over the place. While they kept checking up on other tables, they kept passing us by. If we didn't flag them down, we weren't getting served. Also, they're in plain street clothes. I mean, cool, but we couldn't tell who worked there and who did. But fine, whatever. What really got me is in spite of the service the food was super tasty and fresh! I'm not going to lie, it's expensive for what's offer for all you can eat. I think it's $45-$47. But, I was able to try a lot of new yummy items. If you're looking for special rolls, they only have so many. What really messed me up and had my gagging at the end of our meal, like vomit inducing, was the last item I had ordered. I was eating it very happily when I noticed a hair beneath one of the pieces of fish carpaccio. Instant stomach flip. I'm sorry, but hair in my food gives me the heebie jeebies! We let the staff know, and they offered to replace it, but at that point, you start questioning everything else you ate. So we kindly said no thank you and asked for the check. Normally, when something like this happens, they give you a discount or sometimes even comp the food of the person who was affected. Our check arrived, and it was for the full amount. We asked to speak to the manager, Ebbe. I believe, and she apologized and again offered to replace it. We said no thank you and my mate asked if we could receive a discount. She flatly said no because the food we received was "free." Our bill was $100, I don't see how that was free. After going back and forth, we finally received a discount for a whopping $4.94 off! At least it was money off, right? Anywho, we won't be going back. We're sticking to Daiki on El Camino. They were closed for maintenance, which is why we ended up here, but if they're ever closed again, we'll wait for them to open. They're only a mile away, and they offer so much more for almost $10 less.

Surprised this place gets a lot of slack. For $45.99 you get unlimited sake (questionable quality but unlimited) and ayce sushi.

The rules are simple and well laid out. Service is fast and they don't miss your orders. Premium items like ikura, uni, hotate are available. Honestly it's a pretty good deal for what you're getting. The quality doesn't match the finer establishments, but at least the options are there for your choosing.

Came here on a Sunday at 5 pm and was lucky enough to be seated for ayce right away. We were helped right away and were given a tablet to order. As others mentioned, the star system is a little weird and a way to make sure you don’t order all the expensive stuff each time. Try to avoid the rolls since it’s mainly rice and will fill you up. I would order nigiri each time since they aren’t too big. The hand rolls also had a ton of rice and a little bit of sashimi.

The tuna toro, tempura, and chef’s sashimi plate were really good. Service was excellent and someone kept coming every couple minutes to check on us.

I do recommend coming here for ayce sushi if you are craving it!

Service is awful, and if you have a bad server, they are more than willing to screw you over so you don't get as many rounds. You can only get 3 items per round, and our server was really strict with how often we can order (Can't order when there's food, can't order when it's taking 30 minutes for ur next round) and they purposefully cut us off from ordering another round before the cut off time bc they knew it would take 20+ minutes to get our last which would take us over our time limit. To those who are looking to get their moneys worth-

Dishes I recommend (none star)
- start with fish crush, sashimi (tuna, salmon)
- towards the later part of the meal fill up the rounds with edamame, seaweed salad, skewers (these take a bit longer to prepare so ordering them too early will result in long wait time as u cannot order more until all of your order arrives, recommend shrimp, lamb, baby squid)

STAR RECs: uni, toro, and scallops. If ur lucky enough to go with a lot of people who isn’t looking to maximize, feel free to order the short ribs and salmon carpaccio

Definitely avoids: mixed tempura, sake belly, hamachi belly, salmon roe, 20 pc sashimi, and ALL ROLLS

Visited 2 years ago

Sushi Experience №109

Huge disappointment.
Where do I even begin? I came here before with family and my experience was not as bad as this time.

SERVICE: 3/5
I read reviews before about the bad service but from my experience, it wasn't the absolute worst. We knew how to order and knew what we wanted so everything was done quite smoothly. The only issue was that our table was a little further away than the kitchen so the servers mainly hovered around there, but that wasn't the biggest issue. While ordering, we did notice that certain servers had different approaches to customer service. Some were nicer than others. We had a younger woman helped us first and she was very nice and more approachable than another middle aged looking man who was really slow in taking out his device to input our order. the staff here just seem to be a mix of younger people who don't know proper customer service and need a job and older people who just needed a job. There's not a whole lot of consistency but at the end of the day, we got what we asked for.

FOOD: 0.5/5
This was such a disappointment. Like I mentioned, this was not my first time here. Our first time, the fish was a lot fresher and presentation was a lot nicer. This time, Our sashimi came room temperature, it was fishy, salmon was extremely oily, certain fish didn't have much flavor, and it was overall extremely low quality. The way they prepared the sashimi was also very poorly done. Even low quality fish can seem high quality if cut correctly. It was like they took the block of fish and cut it like it was a piece of chicken teriyaki. Everything would've been easier to stomach down if the fish was cold, but because the pieces rough and room temp, it was terrible. The oysters weren't the worst, but there was no flavor. It was like they washed it and put it back in the shell? The scallop was fishy as well? and the UNI, oh my gosh, it was super fishy, bitter, and really low quality. I personally don't have super high expectations for food and my partner knows because I grew up eating anything and everything. But even this time, he was shocked that I thought the food was subpar. The only reason I even gave a .5 was because the best thing we ended up ordering were the meat skewers. they came out hot and moderately seasoned. (not the shrimp though) After eating unsatisfactory raw fish, the hot cooked meat on a stick really hit the spot. So in all honesty, I'm not sure if the skewers were actually good or if it was just way better compared to the fish.

Overall, if you're paying $50 per person, not even including the mandatory 20% service fee, you'd expect a higher quality of food, even if it's AYCE. We all know that if you're getting AYCE, you might be able to overlook a slight food quality adjustment, but this is just not worth it anymore. Reading reviews, it seems their food is really inconsistent. Some days it's good, some days it's not. For there to be such a high amount of inconsistency of food and service, $50 is too much.
Another thing this establishment needs improvement on is their ordering process. Maybe invest in a tablet or a restaurant designated device to take orders instead of having staff use their personal phones. It makes the whole process seem a little unprofessional. And also to please clarify to guests that the QR code taped on their table or the wall next to them (which also needs improvement on) isn't for them to scan but for employees. Even on the table, there is a printed on QR code that says "scan to order" when in fact, customers aren't allowed to. It's very confusing and it seems like there were some customers that got a lecture for doing so when they weren't told what they can and can't do.
There are just so many things wrong with this restaurant and so many things for them to improve on that their current state is not worth my patronage.

The lion king roll was definitely the best one.

Would recommend going with a group of no bigger than four for the AYCE, otherwise you will not be able to make it worthwhile.

Surprised about the low ratings but I guess it will work to my advantage as I keep enjoying this all you can eat and drink (sake) place. Uni is a must. To those that rated this place low, enjoy your Big Mac.
Only improvement I would suggest is to keep napkins in the restroom. Update to napkins: I guess they heard and now there are napkins 👏🥳
P.S. I think the low reviewers must come from competitors. This place is taking away business.

Sushi Experience №119

There's a lot going wrong with this place.

The biggest selling point is the "all you can eat (AYCE) and drink," but it's actually false advertisement. All you can drink is ONLY for hot sake and soda. You're restricted to 90 minutes and whenever the server gets to you - which is up to the servers discretion.
Do you see where I'm going with this?

You can try raising your hand and making eye contact with the servers, but they actively try to avoid looking at their patrons, in order to get you to pay that >$50 AYCE price tag and feed you as little as possible. To put it in perspective, after 90 minutes, my table of 2 only got 3 rounds of items. During one of the rounds, we were missing an item. A "starred" item (more expensive).
Then we were asked to leave.

It wasn't until after we complained before they kicked us out that service "magically got better" - read other reviews, this is a trend. We were given only 1 more round as an "apology" - but it was obvious what they were doing.

In terms of food quality, it's disappointing. We ordered toro (tuna belly) and were extremely excited about it. And.... disappointed. It wasn't very fatty, oddly. Salmon was also disappointing. If this was say... $25 AYCE, then it'd be worth it, but for >$50, it is insane at how low quality the fish is.

Please avoid this place.
It's way too expensive for what it is. You're not gonna have a good time. Even after we left, the fact that we had to complain to get better service left a bad taste in our mouths. The food itself doesn't match the price tag.

We were still hungry.

We went on Saturday evening and we waited around 1 hour.
It would be better if they had a tablet and we will get SMS that our table is almost ready (it’s working with pen and paper so you have to stay close)
The place is really beautiful, everyone are chill and super nice.
We were there for 1.5 hours and everything was tasty, I really loved the food and the service Will definitely come back.

Love this place! Would come here more often if I could eat larger amounts to make it more worth it. Quality of the food is great for ayce. Most of the bad reviews are for people complaining about the menu rules, but I think it's a fair way to keep this place in business.

Only downside is they are often out of items that we want.

We had a great experience. We drove 1 1/2hr just to eat at Ultra Sushi in San Mateo. We ordered the “All you can eat with unli drink” for $49 each plus tax and service fee. We got all fresh. I didn’t took all the photos since we grab immediately once it was served lol. pay $300 for 5person. Remember that there is a 90mins limit. So if you want to be served immediately be there at 5pm. We are 1st customer and they served us well.

Please don’t bother going here. Food didn’t sit right with me.

Came during the second wave for dinner time. Seated at 6:30pm, since it was so jam packed… food took more than 30 minutes to come out after waiting for 20+ minutes to order. Only ordered at most 2 rounds before we were told we couldn’t order anymore and that we were well beyond the AYCE time. When it took about almost an hour to even just get the attention of staff and food to come out? Don’t bother wasting your money here.

We were even rushed to leave. The owner came out to clean our table and had an attitude while we were trying to leave so they can’t seat other people. While I was trying explain her staff was already rushing us to leave, we didn’t need to be treated in such a way and told that next time we’ll be charged for the remaining food left on the table(after we were already rushed to leave). The owner slams down the dirty plates on top of the remaking leftover food on top and said “FINE. Go eat it then.”

I’m appalled by the level of service here and professionalism from this place.

The staff’s attitude was so awful and mean. We got there half hour before they close. We asked if they can still take us and they said yes, and this is the beginning of disaster. After we sit down the staff told us we have to order right away and the kitchen close in 15mins, and it take them around 15mins to make food, and each of us can only order 3 items at once. This is an all you can eat restaurant and we pay for all you can eat price. We asked them can they make an exception for us to order more food at once before they close, as the kitchen is closing in 15 mins and it take 15mins to make food sound like we can only order once. The staff ( I think his name is Eri) was very rude, without any smile at all, the way he talk to us like he hates us and wanted to start a fight. He said no and he warn us they will charge us whatever we left on the table. But the reality is… we hadn’t even start to order and seems like we can only order once. The way he back and forth communicate with us was just… rude. And when I read the menu it didn’t really even say they will charge for the food left. It only said if too much food wasted additional charges might occur.

I haven't been to ultra sushi in awhile but am delighted to report that they've sustained their food quality and service throughout the pandemic and ensuing inflation! The servers came by often and we ordered five rounds of food. I highly recommend the fish crush, which does take longer though. I most enjoy the nigiri, skewers (yes try the gizzards), sfpd roll and taokayaki. We didn't have to wait when we got there at 5 pm.

Tasty, fresh fish! They have decent uni! Our overall favorite was the bluefin tuna toro (as a nigiri, it is a "starred" item you can get accompanied by 2 non-starred items).

We came around 11:20am on a Friday and there were still plenty of tables available.

Service is generally prompt to serve you after you've received and consumed your round of 3x dishes. However, this could stretch to a while, if one of your dishes gets stuck in prep limbo.

Some negatives:
- tea costs extra (wash it all down with sake or canned soda instead!)
- no oysters nor kurodai (black snapper) available when we tried to order them: not disclosed anywhere before we committed to AYCE (only a bit of a bummer for us, but I could see this being pretty lame if one of the things we'd really looked forward to were out)
- some servers were pretty curt with us: I tried asking if the 20pc Chef's Choice sashimi EVER came with starred fish, and only got unhelpful responses in a rude "DUH" tone.

Overall, it was a pricey meal BUT ended up being good value for the quality & quantity consumed! We could've stretched ourselves to 5 rounds of 3-item-orders, but would've left pretty uncomfortable. 😂 Instead we left satisfied at 4 rounds, many comprised of yummy fish, with the occasional grilled meat skewer or deep-fried side!

Only tried this place once. Not bad for AYCE sushi at $40+ per person. If you can eat a lot, then I think it's a good place for you. If you cannot eat a lot and you prefer top quality stuff, then this place is probably not a good fit for you. Some items (expensive ones) are limited each time you order, and the waiter would bring your items out. I though that was a clever move on the restaurant: it was good control on food quota and how fast you get to have your food.

No draft beer? I thought that was a mistake. Draft beers would pair well with the food items AND they would fill the customers up so they wouldn't eat as much (more cost cutting?). Oh well, onto alcohol choice #2: sake. Their list of sake was not bad, but the hand-written menu was a bit... ghetto? Lol. Got our preferred sake (Dassai) bottle the first time. When we wanted our second bottle, it was out. The waiter recommended a bottle of Fukuju and it wasn't bad. We ordered a lot of sashimi and they were average. I was surprised that they even offered uni (sea urchin). 2 pieces of uni nigiri would easily be priced at $15+ elsewhere. The short ribs were pretty good too. You could easily get your money's worth if you focused on sashimi and nigiri, compared to what other restaurants charge. Well, those happened to be my favorite things anyway. Like I said, the quality wasn't top tier, but hey, we gotta be realistic since we're talking all-you-can-eat here. If I felt like pigging out, I'd come back again.

Ultra Sushi is a solid AYCE sushi place here in the bay. For $46, you get to order as much nigiri, sashimi, and rolls as you want (though you have to follow their particular rules). The fish quality is decent (not amazing) and the proportions are definitely generous. I suggest coming during off hours because the service is instant. I've come when they were really busy and our food didn't come out nearly as fast. For what it's worth, I think Ultra Sushi is one of the better AYCE sushi places around for the price, and it's one of my go-to's when I'm craving a lot of sushi.

Great experience. The servers were attentive and service was fast. I did see some negative reviews where they complained about the slow service speed, but I did not have that experience. The food is what you get from an AYCE sushi experience (not the highest quality sushi), but it’s nice to only pay $46 and be able to try several rolls, nigiri, and sashimi. I have yet to find sushi at that low of a price in the Bay Area. Not to mention they have nice appetizers and meat skewers. Overall I had a really great experience and I would go back. For the price and the amount and variety of items you can get, I think this AYCE sushi restaurant is great

Wow, what a pleasant surprise! Walked into this sushi place randomly, on a business trip. Was confused by some rules when I placed my first order, for my first "round" (I didn't read the menu). Only 3 nigiri per round, one special star item (typically expensive) item per round, etc. Then I realized they have an all you can eat and drink $45.99 special that most people opt for. Last time I ate at an all you can eat sushi place, the fish was not good. Their fish is great! I would definitely come again.

A little on the pricey side for AYCE. After they added their service fees, was close to $60 per person.
With that said, i'd say it's still worth it if you enjoy sashimi and want AYCE. There's not really any other options that offer ayce sashimi. Their tuna and hamachi was good quality but salmon was a bit subpar, when we went.
They also offer items considered more premium, such as uni, toro, or salmon belly. (Premium items are limited to one per order and must be ordered with non-premium items.)
They have a small variety of rolls available, as well as skewers, which are great for changing up texture/flavors mid meal. The rolls are smaller, when ordering ayce, which is nice as they would not be as filling.
Location is good as there are a lot of boba places around to get after the meal. Decor is nice, but service was lacking. Waiters were not outright rude but acted very casually and unprofessional. We also had to remind them a few times about previous things we ordered. Otherwise no outstanding issues.
They advertise an All-you-can-drink, which includes hot sake and canned soft drinks.

I’ll give my honest review, this place was pretty terrible. The staff were rude, the food was sub par, it’s way overpriced, they try to screw you every chance they get. We had a few pieces left and the lady wouldn’t give us the check, there was one plate we were sure we didn’t order so I asked her, I don’t know if this was the manager or not but she got in my face about it and proceeded to stare at me after. If you have a choice just go to a normal respectful sushi place stay away from this one. Also check out all the good reviews they are definitely paid for
