Happy hour 10/20pcs mixed sashimi 50% off
Welcome to our rock and roll style sushi restaurant!
Very busy on a Monday night, pretty loud inside and a bit too steamy with minimal AC. Wide selection of traditional sashimi, sushi, but also americanized rolls and starters. The sashimi was fresh. The rolls were big and held up well (rainbow, spicy tuna) while others were not as fresh (flying beer, spider). The big rolls were pretty creative. Better for 2-3 friends catching up than family/groups. Our group of 6 spent the whole dinner shouting across the table, it seemed, lol. Service was super slow - ordering, getting enough utensils, and water refills were difficult.

Sapporo sushi is a great place to go for extremely fresh raw fish, as both sashimi and as sushi rolls. It's definitely worth going at 5pm if you would like the 50% off sashimi deal, and the variety of the 20-piece platter was incredible. The Β£8 roll offer was also good, especially the yellowtail tuna one, however if you are not the biggest fan of raw fish, you may struggle more, as there are few sushi options without fish (the others are with fried prawns). We also ordered a portion of the fried Brussel sprouts which was a very generous bowl, and the chicken karaage, which was very fresh and crispy. Overall a great quality restaurant for those looking for proper fresh raw fish

This is a Hidden gem restaurants! My husband and I love this place since they were soft opening few years ago. After two years I surprise they still provide quality sashimi and good customer service. If you are a sashimi lover. This is a good choice!! The reason keep us return all the time is the didnβt over charge you and the chef is very talented. Their sauces they made for the raw food like oyster, fish liver, wagyu beef, and toro is unique! Also, they are very generous. Sometime treat us free shot and surprises us with a special treat (no charge). Each time my husband and I are absolutely grateful after celebrating our anniversary or birthday in this restaurant. Thank you Chef!

SO MUCH FUN! I brought friends from out of town here and they had the best time! Itβs a full experience from your taste buds to every interaction you have while there. I will absolutely be back and I highly recommend it! Thank you so much to Will for the delicious food, and to Ling Ling, Anna and Emma for the fantastic service!

Really enjoy the secret box! It comes with the mussel miso soup which has like 8-10 mussels. Really enjoy the box! The scallops and nigiri are delicious. Very balanced tastes and gently seasoned. I would get this secret box again! The sushi roll itself is kinda typical but I also enjoyed it!
The staff were very friendly. But I kinda get why some people have different opinions. I observe the chefs and waitresses were drinking with the customers. I donβt have a problem with this, and I think the staff were very helpful.
I would 100% come again and try their secret box!

Finally visited for an impromptu Friday date night and are so glad we did. We sat at the sushi bar and were immediately included in sake toasts with some regulars.
The sashimi platter was delicious. We tried the mid belly toro that the chefs recommended tasting next to regular hamachi. Amazing! We also loved the salmon skin roll. The chefs threw in the hamachi shots (on special) - 2-3 bites of hamachi pieces in a very lite, sweet, tart ponzu sauce with a crunchy topper. Definitely not one to miss when itβs on the specials. Great sake tastings! Sushi chefs were so much fun! Weβll be back!

I had an extremely loveable dinner with my friend Yuan here, and I can only say that this place is truly a heaven for food lover!... The staff was super friendly and the food was AMAZING, just like the owner. Thank you so much, Sapporo Rock & Roll Sushi, for giving me and my friend such a lovely dinner time.

Really good food, worst service. Took at least 45 minutes to seat us. Drunk people all over the restaurant including the staff (drinking with all the customers) and ignoring others. They are nice but forgot one of our rolls. Extremely loud can barely hear a normal conversation. Unfortunate since the rolls are really good. Too crazy for a date night.

The sushi was pretty tasty, portions are very small. The restaurant is chaotic, loud. Everyone is drinking including the waiters and chefs. Very cramped, hot and dirty tables.
By the time we realized the four rolls we ordered were too small for dinner we were already over it and didnβt want to stay.
Paid -80 for what amounts to appetizers. Left and ate the rest of our dinner elsewhere.

Grab a seat at the bar, make a friend, take shots of sake with your bartenders, eat sushi off the menu made custom without asking, Sashimi cut wide and right. THIS IS THE SPOT!!! This is hands down the best sushi place Iβve been to so far in San Mateo. I can proudly say this place is now my top sushi spot in NorCal! The people who work here are amazingβthey are so friendly and welcoming. Not only is the sushi incredible, but we also experienced fantastic customer service. Because it was our first time, the chef even gave us some free nigiri to try, and it was delicious! We ordered mostly nigiri: yellowtail, wagyu, salmon, otoro, crispy tuna rice, and much more. Honestly, no complaintsβeverything was delicious. The workers there even offered us free shots. I definitely canβt wait to come back and take them up on that! Shoutout to the amazing chefs: Kim, and Will and the amazing servers: Anna and Elma!

As regulars, weβve tried several dishes, and the Chicken Karaage is hands down the best in the Bay Area. We also love the Black Truffle Edamame and get it every time. Honestly, you canβt go wrong with anything on their menu. Thank you, Sapporo, for countless wonderful memories!

I stopped here because of the ratings on Google and was a bit disappointed. The food tasted good but the rolls were overpriced for the amount, especially the signature rolls. Had the amigo and only got 5 pieces in a $16 roll. Typical I've seen upwards of 8 to 10 pieces where I'm from when it comes to flagship rolls. The other part that was disappointing was that the rolls were very loose and the filling was falling out of them. Maybe it was because I was solo but expected more.

I donβt normally write reviews but this place I just HAD to. I didnβt take pictures of all the food but we got the black truffle edamame, uni nigiri, sweet shrimp nigiri and the 20 pc sashimi. All of the food was too good! I was very very impressed, the sashimi melted in your mouth and perfect texture and the uni was just perfect. When I tried the edamame I was very impressed and it was very reasonably priced! I will say going into it I was definitely a little annoyed since we waited a lil long ngl and so was my mom due to being really hungry but the staff was still very sweet and accommodating, she even gave us free shots and tried to get us a table asap !! I will definitely be coming back and recommending this place to my friends :) it was raining really hard and super windy when we came as shown in the video but still definitely worth the meal.

Found this place randomly while driving down el Camino and have never looked back. Best sushi joint Iβve ever been to. But if your looking for high quality sushi and a fun atmosphere, then this is your place. Love it!

This is not traditional Japanese sushi at all. We liked the potato croquets appetizer. Then we ordered some rolls to share and I was not a fan. 2 of the 3 we ordered had spicy tuna and this was by far the spiciest tuna I have ever had. I was not expecting it and it was too intense. Looking over the menu around half of the rolls had spicy tuna, spicy crab, spicy aioli, or jalapeΓ±os and I would assume they are all very hot like the ones we had. I did like the amigos rolls that was not spicy. I would avoid the rolls in general.
The music was also very loud and they seemed to try for a party atmosphere. We were celebrating a birthday in our group and the servers were very nice when then heard. They offered us free shots of sake to celebrate which was sweet but we turned them down since we donβt drink much. They were a bit too pushy trying to get us to take the shots anyways which I didnβt love.
Overall the food was ok but way too spicy. I didnβt really enjoy the atmosphere. I donβt think I would come again.

I'm not sure where to start. 4.6 on Google reviews so went in with high hopes. We've driven by many times so it does look like a more progressive sushi joint but again, we didn't want to judge it by its name and facade.
In summary, phenomenal sushi and nigiri. Phenomenal. Everything else is mediocre or worse with an absolute sense of confusion with the atmosphere and the music. Honestly, the sushi chef should consider opening up a proper Japanese restaurant.
Service is dismal. There is constant chaos at the entrance, at the tables, and just everything is slow. 10 mins to get seated (even with a reservation). 10 mins to get the menu. 10 mins to take the order. The servers are either first-timers or they have no idea what table they are tending. Absolute chaos.
Atmosphere is confusing. Tables and the settings look like a local small town sushi shop. Mid-upper range. Nothing wrong with this. And then you have guitars and rock n roll music blasting. Not sure if they're trying to go for a fusion feel or whether you want customers to take sake bombs with their sushi. But the caliber of sushi was simply out of place. And for that type of a beer and sake joint, their tapas and small plate game was weak. So is this an authentic sushi joint or not?
And finally the food. There is no order of an appetizer or main course, etc. They just bring you random things done in random order. Our small tapas potato croquette arrived 30 mins after the sushi. Other than the nigiris, and I have to say, they are phenomenal, everything else was mediocre at best. Not worth mentioning much.
The server also forgot a roll we ordered but by the time we realized the order wasn't even entered, we had lost the will power to last through in the restaurant.
Will not be returning.

We had a lot of fun eating here! Came late on a Saturday night, got seated at the counter pretty quickly. Brussel sprouts were amazing, karaage was pretty good (more like a mochiko chicken since it's just panko battered), crispy tuna rice was meh. Giving this place 5* because the chefs and staff were really nice, and it seems like they know their regulars. The chefs were fun, they poured us more sake after we had finished ours, and even made us some fun nigiri since we were there almost until closing. And I can tell the fish quality is good, because the nigiri he made were amazing.
One caution, my friend and I ordered a potato salmon roll because we were intrigued by the description and were curious what it was-dont get it! It literally is crispy potatoes inside, with a little bit of salmon on top. I'll be back for some sushi redemption to find a good roll.

We were passing by the area and stopped by for dinner. It is decent size japanese restaurant. The interior has electric guitars hanging on the wall. It has a few tables and a sushi bar. We seated right away. They have roll, omakase, nigiti, sashimi, and appetizer. The menu has spalsh of oil. We order hot sake, bori bori which is like onigiri, sake toro aburi, hawaii roll, and rolling stones roll. All are yummy, but the best is sake toro aburi. The fish melt in the mouth. Thr fishes are fresh. The price and portion are also reasonable. May be next time we will try the omakase. The presentation of omakase looks good.

Happy hour (5-6pm) is very good value as their sashimi is 50% off. However you are only allowed 1 plate of sashimi per table which makes coming with a large party during that time not as worth it.
Overall their sashimi and sushi rolls are very delicious. Iβve had their mixed sashimi and the toro sashimi. Toro sashimi is worth the splurge as each piece literally melts in your mouth. Also recommend the black angel roll and the toro uni hand roll - both are well flavoured and the fish are super fresh.
One complaint is that the service can be a hit or miss. First time I went they did not come take our order for a very long time. When we did place our order, they would sometimes forget and we would have to re-order certain items. Itβs also super loud inside - definitely not a romantic date night spot.

First time I went here, I fell in love with the ambience and they were playing my kinda music! Been here several times, but this time was probably my favorite! We had Janice help us out tonight and she was extremely tentative to us at the bar. I will admit, any chance I can sit at the bar here, that's where I'd rather be. Plus you get to chop it up with the chefs, so that's always a win.
We got the Karaage and Wagyu gyoza and the dipping sauce is nothing to sneeze at. Hands down, my favorite thing here, even if it's not a main dish. We got the Flying Beer and the Crunchy Roll since I'm allergic to avocado (ok y'all can laugh, but seriously tho lol) and I didn't want to ask to have it without it since it's not how it's typically made. We ordered the Oysters, but they sold out. However! The chef came in with the clutch and gave us some toro on the house that melted so nicely. Plus, it was a no soy sauce dish and it was so bomb on its own.
This is definitely a go-to spot if you're ever in the area. Can't wait to see y'all again!

I have been dining at this restaurant for a year (I think), and it continues to be a favorite of mine. The food is always top-notch, with generous portions of high quality ingredients. The sushi at this restaurant was absolutely top-notch - each slice of fish was incredibly fresh and succulent, with a delicate texture and delicate flavor that was a true delight to the palate. The chefs take the time to ensure that each dish is prepared to perfection, and it really shows in the flavor and presentation of the food.
In addition to the delicious food, I have also grown to appreciate the personal touch provided by the staff. As a regular customer, I have come to know many of the chefs by name, and they always go above and beyond to ensure that my experience is a memorable one.
Whether I'm in the mood for a quick bite or a leisurely dinner, this restaurant always hits the spot. The combination of excellent food and friendly service make it a standout in my book. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a truly enjoyable dining experience.

Tucked in a small corner by El Camino, unassuming but delicious Japanese food. They have a secret box that has been all over my feed, so I decided to try it. Everything in the secret box was perfect, but my fav is the toro. Definitely check them out!

Came here tonight and the service is usually amazingβ¦but I did not feel it tonight. Maybe it was the rain. Sushi was great. Not a big fan of their California rolls but everything else was amazing and fresh. Prior to coming here tonight the service was always 10 plus. Was really disappointed since I drove way out of my way to come here tonight and celebrate a birthday.

Food quality and taste was ok; but that super loud and annoying music and the loud crowd made it intolerable. I wonβt come back.

Took a chance on this place and drove 20 minutes not know what to expect. We were impressed with the melt in your mouth fish we were served. We normally like our saba to be a little on the older side so it's more vinegary (my preference since I was a kid) so when the Saba arrived looking more like just fresh Saba with it's translucent appearance, we were both unsure. After eating one piece, our fears were allayed. It was super tender with a light flavor, it opened my mind to a different style for this fish...and I've been eating it a long long time.
The fish on the rolls was superb, melt in your mouth goodness.
My 11 year old daughter ate two of the Hokkaido rolls, she loved it. I tried one piece and it was indeed tasty.
We also ordered a Mt. Fuji and Black Angel roll, both were also delightfully tender and delicious. We liked the Mt. Fuji enough to order a second one but I'd eat the Black Angel again in the future.
Lastly the Croquette tater tots. I they were good but I only got one, our daughter wiped out the plate. Kid approved for sure.
Before leaving I had to tell the sushi chef how happy I was with the quality of the fish. I don't do that very often. I hope you have an equally satisfying experience if you come here. I can't wait to come back.
5 stars for it relative to other restaurants of this type.

Amazing place for a party night! This place is so much fun. The servers are so cool and are very friendly. The music is awesome too. Itβs just like their name βrock n roll.β

This place is so lively! The sushi is very fresh and the menu is well thought out. I have been to many different tiers of sushi restaurants and I would definitely say this has made it on my list of favorites. Great food, fun atmosphere and nice selection of sake! Highly recommend

It was our second time here, and we really enjoyed it. Happy hour price for sashimi is sweet! Out of everything we got, what we enjoyed the most were 20 pieces sashimi, sake avocado rolls, and ankimo special. Crunchy spicy tuna rolls weren't great, somehow spicy and bitter at the same time, so I will skip on those next time we come. Overall, a great spot to go to!

The happy hour is great but it gets crowded, we missed the happy hour and while the place was crowded we didn't have problem getting seated. The service is great, the fish is very fresh. They do a fair amount of business and have a limited menu so they go through their fish pretty quickly.
I got a side of sushi rice and tobiko for my daughter and they didn't even charge me for it. Very nice staff.

Service: subpar. We waited 15 minutes before someone acknowledged our presence. A guy before us probably waited longer. Looks like he was DoorDashing and gave up because he didnt want to wait any longer. He looked pretty annoyed and it was justified. In the span of 15 mins or so, we witnessed the waitress taking numerous photos with her friends and chefs taking shots. This would have been alright except they seem to ignore all the other patrons. This was on a Friday night.
During the night, I observed two tables where they both had to ask for their missing order.
Vibe: they blast music like youβre in a club. Difficult to chat as youβre just yelling.
Food: OMG Sapporo was good. I would order this again.
Sake 5 pieces was wonderful too.
squid π¦ and while I didnt enjoy it, my partner did.
Crunchy Sapporo: i dont recommend. The rice kept falling apart when I try to eat it
Dont recommend as a date location.

Great price on happy hour, 5-6 pm. It pays to be early.

We arrived at 4:50pm to line up for the happy hour. 5 parties in front of us. But the waiting is not that bad.
The $27 sashimi plate is unbeatable!
49er roll is awesome
Golden shrimp... Hmm, below average, you can definitely skip
Chicken karaage, it's just okay

We arrived at 6pm. There was a line, and all tables were filled. I recommend a reservation. The music was bumping with great songs. Our server took our order, but it was difficult to hear him, d/t the loud music. Our drinks were never refilled, losing a point, but overall a good experience. I'd return.

Very lively/loud inside. If you are looking for a casual spot to unwind this is a good choice. If you are looking to have a close conversation with others, this may not be the best choice. Food and sushi were very good. No AC.

Update: came here with a reservation for 2 and pre-ordered the secret box! It was amazing and everything in the box had such complex flavors. We were in awe of some of the things in the box even post dinner. Highly recommend for special occasions! ($60 per box and limited, so preorder if possible). The roll and sashimi we got were all really great quality and each cut of sashimi was pretty large so they definitely do not hold back. Service was also great this time. And the staff were pretty friendly. They're a very popular place and tend to be really busy so we went a little earlier than normal dinner time. My last experience was affected by how overwhelmed they were with customers coming in.
Really good rolls and appetizers. I gave 3 stars because it took so long to get seated despite my group calling in beforehand and making a reservation.

Really wanted some fresh sushi and this popped up in my search as I was shopping in the area. The food was fresh! We ordered three rolls and two appetizers and we had to take some home as the food was filling and worth the price! The service was a little slow as we sat there for 10-15minutes after receiving drinks to get someone to take our food order, but it might have just been our indecisiveness when ordering drinks. The food rolled out smoothly, you must try the tostadas! They were something different and delicious on the menu.
