A sushi-heavy omakase menu gets the California treatment at this artsy, modern dinner destination.
It was amazing! Firstly, the atmosphere is very calm and relaxing, the service is unobtrusive. Secondly, the dishes are served on wonderful dishes - the plates are magnificent. Thirdly, the preparation itself is like balm for the soul. The food itself is simply magical! First they served a salad with grapes, from which we fell silent and could not even speak, savouring this aroma and taste of grapes, fish and sauce! And I am delighted with the amazing taste of sea urchin and caviar, the combination of ingredients - it's the bomb! It's divine! Yes, it's not cheap, but it's worth it. The restaurant is difficult to find - they do not spend money on a sign and advertising. It's just in a house, on the first floor, without a sign or lights, the blinds are lowered - a navigator will help you. Special thanks to the waitress from Serbia named Bojana - charming and will tell you a lot about the dishes. I highly recommend gourmets and aesthetes to visit this restaurant. I will definitely come back here soon!

it’s rare for me to give 1 star reviews but i genuinely felt scammed at robin. posing itself as an inventive or modern omakase by adding random ingredients to a dish without any sense of flavor combinations, or flavor at all, the majority of the courses were bland or too salty. i have a small appetite but still left hungry due to the tiny fish portions, which never happens.
service was fine but odd, servers were too casual and didn’t match the aesthetic they were going for.
lastly, the meal was crazy expensive for no reason. you’re using supposedly high quality fish but watering it down with either pricy flavorless ingredients or loud spices.
overall, robin is doing a disservice to omakase and those testing out fine dining for the first time. go elsewhere.

Robin is a restaurant that's tucked in a corner and is difficult to find.
We booked the restaurant probably a week and half in advance to ensure that we secured a counter seat where you get served straight from the chef themselves.
Atmosphere is really nice. We had great vibes in there and everyone is friendly.
Our chef today was Gary and he was excellent. Everything I tried today was great quality and had me smiling with every bite. I was never a fan of Uni but this place changed my mind and now I friggin love Uni.
We had a total of 23-25 pieces and was extremely filling.
If you ever swing by, try out the place. You won't regret it.

We did omakase here for date night! The food was great but I don’t think it was worth the price. It was great sashimi and the add-on flavors/smoke/sauces did elevates the taste, however it was soooo expensive for very little fish. My husband loved each sushi piece, as did I, but I would’ve loved it the same as if I were in a lower tier sushi experience without the added sauces. It felt very ~extra~
The noodles included in the cheapest omakase option ($109) were absolutely horrendous, as well as the soup was just offensively plain and basic. The alcohol was also overpriced in my opinion, but maybe that is all of California lol.
The worst part of the experience I have to say was our sushi chef who didn’t even attempt to be personable for 2 seconds, spent the rest of the time clearly unhappy at his job and reciting what we were eating like he was reading the most boring book ever. Here are some direct quotes: “Oh I have never been to any omakase restaurants just this one, and only because I work here,” “I don’t know [anything about the area] I just got this job a few months ago,” and “Are any of you guys insta famous? Because that would be really annoying.” 🤣

Expensive food but amazing quality and delicious. The only two dishes I could’ve gone without would be their potato chip dish and the noodles; I would’ve rather supplemented them with more fish, given the expensive price. Would return & recommend to others!

Robin was my first introduction to omakase, and I'm so glad it started me off right. I'm not into sushi, but l'd recommend Robin to anyone.
The DJ really set the vibe with throwback R&B and rap, adding to the cool atmosphere.
Unfortunately, I don't remember exactly what we had for each course, but I do recall how fresh the ingredients were and how well the distinct flavors melded together with each bite. Our waiter checked on us a good amount without overdoing it. Order a bottle of sake and you've got yourself a fabulous night at Robin, guaranteed!

Very good, but I feel very overpriced. We spent nearly $400 each on the set menu with sake pairing! You can go to a michelin star sushi place in SF and spend less money for better food.

Wow mate, I did not get ripped off like this in a while.
The chef will ask you how much you want to spend that day as soon as you sit down telling you that it ranges from $89 to $189. Not only this is a super awkward conversation to have when you first sit down since it makes you feel like you can spend $89+tax+tip and end up having something "low-end", they also do not stick to your request. I was charged $130 for my meal even though I asked the $89 option. The argument they have is that towards the end they asked "how is your appetite doing", and I said "it's great". Then they gave me 3 more nigiris and a very unnecessary dessert. I probably should have said "please do not give me more food".
I am still very confused about this experience and don't know what went wrong, how come this is actually legal. Ugh, change your pricing structure, communication and attitude.

Overall, leaving 2 stars because while some of the dishes were quite okay, the service was terrible and there are better options in the city for that kind of price.
The fish quality was as good as you'd expect and there were a few interesting plates. Honestly the most memorable dish was the corn miso soup.
Mostly leaving my poor review because of service. My partner and I felt rushed as the server took the plates while we were still chewing and there was still a significant amount of foie gras left on the plate. It was my partner's first time trying it and he was very disappointed when they whisked away our plates moments after we put the piece into our mouths while we still had so much on the plate.
It was quite shocking to me that they would rush us like that, especially when we were on time for the reservation we made and this being an omakase restaurant.
I did write an email to the business to provide feedback but they have not responded and that is why I'm leaving a public review.
Besides that, the timing of the plates was inconsistent and left us waiting at the beginning. This was unlike any omakase experience I've had before where the pieces come at frequent, regular intervals.

Very fun evening at Robin. While the Omakase was very good, it was not amazing. The flavors were very mild - so not a lot of “wow.” The presentation was pretty and the restaurant was nicely appointed (other than uncomfortable chairs).

I really really wanted to LOVE Robin. But it wasn’t what I’d hoped. The fish was good, service was friendly, but there was a connection that was missing. Maybe my favorite part was the restroom. Which shouldn’t necessarily be the case for an expensive sushi restaurant.

Sat at counter and Gary was awesome! Always fun watching a pro work and the service was top notch! Standouts were the Hokkaido uni (twice!) and toro done wimpy but perfect and all the small touches on the other nigiri definite showed care and respect. Finishing with a5 waygu with shaved cold foie gras wasnt shabby either. The $209 was definitely to much food and I passed on the miso soup which wife said was a little sweet (I got a bonus Santa Barbara uni as a bonus!).

Just share my experience in Robin. I asked for more rice in my nigiri, and the server said sure. But it didn’t seem like they added any. Then, to top it off, they gave me a whole bowl of rice "just in case." Seriously? I came for an Omakase experience, not a make-your-own Poke bowl. They clearly don’t get it and don’t seem to care.

One of the most unique omakase experiences I’ve ever had. Contemporary and classic
Visited a year ago
We ordered the highest level omakase and loved a few of the courses brought out to us. The play with flavor and presentation is overall a fun/okay experience.
However; this review is geared toward the level of service and attention to detail expected for a $700+ bill (for 2 diners).
The tables are the average size for two diners (enough space for separate plates, plus multiple serving dishes in the center). Given that each course was brought out on a single plate (and we were given awkward 1mm thick chopsticks), it was an effort to reach to the center of the table and pick up the bites of food with the chopsticks. My husband is from Southeast Asia, uses chopstick regularly, and agreed with this sentiment. A smaller table might work better for the concept.
The sushi rice was too wet to hold its shape while navigating the above-mentioned table/plate setup. Odd, given that it's kinda hard to mess up sushi rice? Also for $700...
Our courses came out sporadically, we went for 20-30 minutes between two courses and then had 3 stacked on the table at the same time... a weirdly insulting way to rush diners who paid for a top experience. But then again, there were only 2 servers for an entire dining room of around 40 people. Of course there would be chaos with this setup.
Finally, and worst for us, we spoke to our server at the very beginning of our night (as we were seated) and made it clear that we did not want the wagyu tartare due to religious avoidance of beef. He agreed and promised we would get a different course. Then, in the midst of the chaotic dining session, we eventually were served the wagyu. We were very kind given the circumstances, but insisted that we wouldn't eat it. As discussed, we don't eat beef. The rest of the night, the entire wait staff changed their demeanor to one of coldness when delivering our courses. I have no clue what two tiny crackers of pate and wagyu tartare cost the restaurant to throw away... but I'm kinda shocked it was a big enough deal to permanently lose two customers over.

Fantastic date night experience. Definitely sit at the sushi bar, very fun to watch the chefs prep each piece. Every dish was beautifully plated. Fresh and balanced flavors. Nice modern twist to omakase. Appreciated the modern Japanese art, chic and intimate atmosphere.
Robin was recommended by a good foodie friend from the Bay. I understand why she and all the foodie lists reference Robin. It’s a great place to eat and savor modern sushi when visiting the Bay.

“Fusion” omakase. Expensive but very well executed, everything we were served was delicious. I recommend sitting at the sushi bar to get the full experience, our chefs at tables 9 and 10 were fun and engaging throughout service. The sake omakase was underwhelming, but YMMV, our drinks server was busy as he was serving the entire joint, on a different night, it might have been better.

Easily the worst nigiri I’ve had while spending >200 per head. Some of the pieces had badly shaped rice which would fall part when lifted, and our chef would clear the grains of rice from the serving plate with his hands. The nigiri itself is rather small, with the ratio of rice of fish making it difficult to enjoy the taste of fish.
Further, they make you choose how much you want to spend right at the beginning of the meal but don’t tell you which pieces are included. For instance, we wanted ebi, hotate, madai and chu toro and communicated this in the beginning, but our chef wouldn’t tell us whether our chosen piece contained this or even whether they had these for the night. Additionally, the pacing was uneven, our chef was training someone and sometimes they would make pieces which we erected still eating the previous one and let them sit before moving them to our serving plate.
The best part of the meal was the dessert.
There total cost for our meal for two was slight over 500. At this price point, you are much better off going to a place like Ju-Ni.

American style omakase. It shows that pistachios go well with nigiris and caviar can be eaten together with potato chips & sushi. The one I don’t like is the “tan-tan” noodle with truffle, did not taste any truffle flavor in that dish. Wagyu/tuna tartare is too oily as well.

Amazing food. The chef was amazing and the prep and presentation emaculate. The sushi and the various dishes were so delicate and tasted wonderful. Would go there again. This is a hidden gem in the millions of sushi restaurants in SF that get all the glitz and glamor and don't even live up to their mark.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Robin, a sushi Omakase restaurant in San Francisco, and I can confidently say it deserves a solid 5-star rating. The overall experience was nothing short of exceptional.
Firstly, the restaurant's modern design creates a sophisticated and inviting atmosphere. The sleek decor adds to the overall appeal, making it an aesthetically pleasing space. The ambiance is intimate and romantic, making it an ideal choice for a special evening or a celebration.
Now, onto the highlight – the food. The Omakase experience at Robin is a culinary journey that surpassed all expectations. Each dish was meticulously crafted and showcased the chef's dedication to quality and innovation. The flavors were a delightful symphony of freshness and creativity, leaving a lasting impression.
One standout dish that stole the show for me was the fois gras sushi. The combination of rich fois gras with the delicate texture of sushi rice and the subtle flavors of accompanying elements was a taste sensation. It exemplified the chef's ability to marry traditional sushi with inventive culinary techniques.
In addition to the impeccable food and ambiance, the service was top-notch. The staff was attentive, knowledgeable, and added to the overall warmth of the experience.
Robin is undoubtedly a gem in San Francisco's culinary scene, offering a perfect blend of modern design, intimate ambiance, and outstanding food. If you appreciate sushi and want an unforgettable dining experience, Robin is a must-visit destination.

Second ever omakase, first one being in Japan, so I don’t have a lot of experience to compare it with. Went here for a friend’s birthday and we were hoping to get counter seats but didn’t. If that’s what you want, see if that option is available when doing your reservation or give them a call. The seats next to the glass wall are too close to each other and I could feel the guy behind me moving a lot, with his chair bumping into me, it was distracting. Other than that, the ambience is not too bad and service was smooth. No long wait times in between servings. As for the food— there was a good variety in flavors (some citrus flavor in one, truffle in another, some heat in another, hint of watermelon etc I thought it was very creative), and combination of textures. The cuts were small, but I prefer that and getting more variety vs the other way around.
Not a fan of not having a menu though. The price is sliding scale from $109-$209/person which others already noted, and you don’t know what you’re getting. You can however “add more”, or “scale back” but you still wouldn’t know how much more is more (and who knows if they forget to serve you a dish, which happened at another restaurant I went to recently).

My hubby took me this place for our anniversary diner and I have to say this was one of the best omakase places. We did 210 $ omakase courses and every single dish was mind blowing. The fish is amazingly fresh and other ingredients are meticulously harmonized with different types of sashimi . If you choose 210 $ course dish, I don’t think you will be still hungry after the end of the courses as the portion is not small overall .
We also tried various sakes and plum wines and they paired well with courses .
If you enjoy sophisticated and fresh omakase , I highly recommend this place !

Great ambiance and staff is friendly. It’s definitely more trendy (they play upbeat music) than authentic. Unfortunately, we found the omakase to be underwhelming and overpriced. The flavors just weren’t unique, and I felt there was a lot of soy sauce to compensate. It’s fun to name your own omakase price, but at our middle of the range price of $159 a person we were not impressed. Especially when compared to Chisai sushi in Bernal which had much better flavors at a lower price.

I've come to Robin 3 times now - roughly once per year - and I really enjoyed it the first 2 times but they've raised their prices while maintaining the same portions, and it's just not worth it anymore. Service was spotty as well - sometimes we would get courses back to back within seconds; sometimes we would wait for 5-10 mins.
Last year I sat at the sushi counter and I feel that made a difference; we really enjoyed chatting with the chefs and he gave in depth explanations, answered questions, etc.
This year I was with a party of 3 so we sat at a table and each course was just dropped on the table with a mumbled explanation.
TLDR; not worth the price tag anymore (we did the basic 109 option and left quite hungry, so definitely order a few more courses) and if you're going to dine there, sit at the counter vs the tables.

The omakase was incredibly thoughtful and meticulously prepared. Every ingredient held a high standard of quality and integral dimension of flavor. Our main takeaway was the experience wasn’t luxurious enough for the price you pay. You pick between $109 and $209 where each tier goes up $10. We went with the $209 option and still came out kinda hungry. We don’t want to imagine what it’s like with the $109 option. There was a total of 17 items including dessert. The cuts of fish are very small. Quality alone doesn’t make up for it. The scallops was a little disappointing because they were overpowered by the rest of the plate. We were expecting more flavors from the truffles and foie gras, but it wasn’t really noticeable. The omakase didn’t come with wasabi or ginger either. Ginger seems essential especially as a palate cleanser. The foie gras over wagyu would be a better experience if they shave it in front of you. You should lick it all up to scrape back what you can! I think omakase should be more than just having food served + having it explained. Overall, this really should be a 3.5 but Google doesn’t allow that.
There’s a 5% SF health mandate. I’m not against workers having insurance but it shouldn’t be on the customers.

Amazing creative omakase. We ended up doing the sake omakase too and honestly, it's a ton of sake for $75 each. Food omakase was $210 ish each and so worth it. The flavors were really fun and highly recommend sitting at the counter if you fancy some interesting stories and conversations with the chefs. Each dish was beautiful and truly felt like eating art.
Finished out the the most amazing coconut milk foam with cacao chips and plum wine. Now almost a week ago and I'm salivating thinking about it.

They describe it as whimsy omakase which it definitely is… but it is also a lot more. The fish is perfectly prepared and paired with amazing sauces and accompaniments. Service is ever present but not overbearing. Next time I might try a seat at the bar so I could chat more with the sushi chefs. It is pricey (we opted for the $160/pp option) but as a special occasion restaurant it checked all the boxes.

This place literally attempted to kill me, if I did not have epinephrine I would have stopped breathing.
If you have allergies DO NOT eat here.
When my partner and I made reservations we were really excited that they had options. When booking, you could tell them about your allergies before hand. So we listed them when we made the reservation.
When we got there it was packed and very loud inside, it was hard to hear when they explained each dish.
When I arrived the waitress with the cat eyed glasses had asked if I have any allergies or things we wouldn’t eat. I explained I have several allergies— however every dish that was brought to us was brought to us by LITERALLY a different person every time.
She didn’t write down my allergies, it was all by word of mouth, and I can’t imagine that everyone remembered the 4 things I listed (coconut, nuts, milk, and shellfish)
When I was finishing up she brought us dessert, and if it wasn’t for my partner hearing her say it was coconut ice cream I would have eaten it and been in even worse shape.
When I arrived home I wasn’t able to swallow and breathing became difficult. My brother and my partner administered an epi pen and I finally felt better.
So yeah long story short I almost could have died due to someone’s incompetence. I was certainly too trusting in them…
And you’d think with me spending 500$ just to have a nice dinner they would care about stuff like this but they didn’t.
Every other aspect of the dining experience is good but if you have any allergies do NOT attempt to eat here.

Very disappointed by the reservation and booking process and lack of clarity, we had wanted a non omakase meal and the lack of options wasn’t apparent in the reservations flow so now we’re stuck with a reservation we don’t want tonight and have a $79 PP cost to cancel.
I understand this is normal for omakase based restaurants, but we went a few years back when they had other options and there was no notification of the change or lock in - should be changed on booking page.
Food is still great, but at the new pricepoint there are other sushi options in the city we would have preferred.

Wow, probably the worst omakase experience ever.
The menu is $109 - $209, but they don't tell you what you get for each tier which goes up every $10. While eating the $209 menu, you don't know what's next, how many more items or how to refer to what you are eating. The servers don't do the food justice with a lack of telling me what is being served.
They make their rice with home rice cookers. That's probably all you need to know about the quality of their sushi rice.
Pieces of fish are so small, the wagyu didn't taste like wagyu.
The biggest crime is probably the 5balls of caviar on a home style potato chip on rice. Like potato chip rice? That's a new low for me for sushi, to top it off the potato chip was fried in old oil which covered up the caviar taste completely.
The only thing I'd recommend here is the ice cream which was actually really good.
But yea if u want good ice cream just go to McDonald's, it's just as creamy.
This place 0/10.

The omakase was great and the wine selection was excellent. We loved the variety and quality of the fish that was used. My only minor quibble is that the pace of the meal slowed dramatically toward the end (~15 minutes between the last few courses). Still, it was a memorable meal for a memorable occasion, and the dessert and plum wine were a great way to end the night.

The host and staff were extremely rude, I get that this restaurant wants to act pretentious, but overly pretentious and rude to your customers is a turn off, yikes!

I was so disappointed because I really wanted to like this place! You’ve got much, much, much better options for omakase in San Francisco. I know this is a different concept, but from a quantity of food perspective, the amount of food you get for the price is minimal (as compared to many other similarly-priced omakase options in the city). Also the choices in plates can be random: a creamy pumpkin soup to finish up an omakase (?) seemed like an attempt to satisfy your hunger with a cheap plate in the last mile. In short: underwhelming.
Disclaimer: I did not do the cheapest option, so that was not the problem.

Tate was exceptional! He was very friendly and knowledgeable. Gave great direction with new menu items. Wasn't anything to write home about with seaweed on the rolls. Very very chewy, but, to each their own. :) Couple other items were good. Thanks for having us! Definitely will be back. Didn't get the hostesses name or kitchen staff but ...... CLAP CLAP CLAP! You hired some Rockstars.

The contemporary omakase experience here is truly phenomenal. A must-try. Every bite knocked our socks off.

DELICIOUS. Priced in a way that makes you feel like you're getting a STEAL for a multi course omakase adventure. Every bite was interesting, complex, and new. Truly loved their take on the tuna tartare, uni wagyu tartare, salmon with truffle. The list just doesn't end. There was not a bite that I did not love.
Thought the medium price omakase was the goldilocks perfection point. Will bring friends and family here next time!

It was ok, wasn't wow, too many confusing flavor then follow thru. Small sushi some flavor was very unique to not good combo.
Placing that you wouldn't share with friends or family. Not worth the money. Atmosphere was great. I think this place would be better as nice plain Japanese restaurant.

I can’t say I would recommend coming here at all. The staff is super great and accommodating! The food is not fresh, poorly plated, and overall unappetising. You’ll do better going to your local cheap sushi place than coming here spending more than they outline and leaving with a bad taste in your mouth. I’ve had better fish in the middle of America.

The sushi was okay, worth the price but not amazing.
I love the tomyum sushi dish and the soup at the end.
The dish garnishes looked very stylish ai love how they are made.
We went to San Francisco on Covid restrictions so we had to sit outside the restaurant for Omakase.
The service could be better . It took very long time to get the water refilled and drinks .
They never checked us unless each dish was served.
I started from the smallest course and levelled up to the most expensive course to look forward to experiencing something extraordinary but just felt a bit disappointed.

Amazing! Superb quality. Each bite was an experience. Extensive wine and sake menu. Of note, there is no sign or number on the building and it was a little hard to find for a non local. I would definitely go back though!

Wow wow wow. This omakase showing was one of the best I've had outside of Jiro's in Seattle.
The fish cuts were expert, so that the fish just melted in my mouth. Extensive local varieties. Creative sauces and flavor profiles. Long list of sakes. The cutest little sake glasses, each totally unique and chosen by the owner during his regular visits to Japan.
I like the format (of choosing your price point and keeping it there). It keeps the omakase experience truly chef's choice despite us not sitting at the bar. At $150.00 per person for the omakase, we each ate probably 15 pieces of Nigiri. They also gave us a little coconut sorbet at the end, which was a nice treat.
A young Japanese woman was our primary server, and she was attentive and knowledgeable about the menu, food and sake alike. She noticed my in-laws were struggling to hear her, and she went to their side immediately and with such smoothness, it felt very natural. I was impressed.
I'll definitely be returning in the future!

My boyfriend took me here for my birthday after a sushi chef at another restaurant recommended it to us. It was so good! The dishes are definitely not traditional sushi but rather quite innovative dishes. Everything was very fresh and flavor pairings were unique. Presentation was lovely as well.

Pretty good omakase overall, but it’s a less involved experience and doesn’t highlight high-quality fish so much as it does unique flavours.

Wow, impressive omakase. Well, being a ceramic hobbyist, i LOVED the way each dish was paired with a different and unique hand made dish, well matched in color, texture and shape. This type of attention to details ENHANCED my visual experience. I loved my 3D teacup so much, i wish i could've taken it home.
The waitress was friendly without being intrusive and SUPER knowledgeable about what is served as well as fish in general when questions were asked by my date, who fishes.
A very lovely experience!
Expensive? yes.
Worth it? For sure.

Pretty solid Omakase. I usually prefer a more traditional experience , somewhat suspicious of anything where truffles and foie gras and caviar are involved in sushi as it can often just be masking a less high quality fish. The fatty cuts were good. The sashimis weren’t my favorite. First time hearing lil Wayne music at an Omakase which was fun I guess. Overall a little underwhelming for the price (200$ per person)
We asked for some wasabi and were charged 12$ for a thimble size of wasabi which was a fun little surprise on the bill.
Don’t think I’d come back here but great for people who like a more fusion-y sushi experience.

Robin knows its sushi. From perfectly seasoned rice under some of the freshest fish you’ll find in SF, the flavor combinations they offer you in each bite certainly deliver. Spins on classics like albacore with crispy shallots, to inventive pairings like hake with citrus zest, each bite is unique. I was particularly impressed with each fish’s garnish. Soy marinated black garlic, Yuzukosho, miso cured egg yolk, pickled green apple - they were all fantastic. Certainly on the pricier side, a satisfying meal will run you around $200 per person after taxes and tip, but if you’re in the mood for a good omakase, Robin will deliver.

We have the $199 & the $160 omakase just to see the difference, it is around twenty some items
The food came out pretty decent but with quite a bit similarity out of the courses
A few courses do have fancy presentations and sophisticated taste

I love Robin. The setting is intimate and inviting, and the music choice is usually top notch. The servers are always friendly and knowledgeable.
This is one of our most visited locations for special occasions, because the food definitely isn’t cheap, but we always enjoy ourselves when we’re here. If you’re an uni lover, they have some really fantastic dishes to try. The only course that I’m not a huge fan of is the cold noodles toward the end, but even then the dish leaves with an empty plate.
We will continue to come back to Robin!

We sat at the sushi counter. Our server recommended several delicious sake glasses that went really well with the food. Our tasting was inventive, creative, and endlessly interesting. Our chef was wonderful and we had such a lovely time. The vibe was neat, lots of 90's R&B and a few rap jams, soft light, and a cozy feeling.

This is my favorite restaurant in SF. The food is incredible, unlike anything I've eaten before. It's the best sushi I've ever had and even the non-sushi dishes are life changing. The restaurant is beautifully designed and decorated. The staff is attentive and accommodating. THE FOOD IS INCREDIBLE. This spot is great for any special occasion, or if you just really want the best Japanese food in SF

Unbelievable food experience. Staff is great -- kinda wish I could hear them a bit better over the music, but the music is great. We did the full sake pairings and desert and everything was just outstanding. They really get creative - in tasting, pairing, presentation. They take into account your likes and dislikes and really produce art on your plate.

I cannot say enough good things about Robin. The 2 times I ate here were the best 2 meals of my life. They did a wonderful job creating a custom menu for us that was our desired price point, included our favorite things, and allowed us to try new things that we loved! Each course is served on beautiful handmade ceramics that elevate the food. The meal ended with the most delicious coconut soft serve ice cream. I truly can't wait to visit again!

I've been to Robin three times, and overall this establishment is excellent. My first visit, back bar pre-COVID was outstanding. When they first re-opened after COVID they were still working out the flow of their menu, and it didn't quite work--however, they acknowledged this, made some changes, and invited us back for another round which was fantastic! We'll be back many times I'm sure.
This is great food, great, staff, and the management clearly cares about you having a great experience. Eat the food, drink the sake and enjoy a great SF restaurant!

We tried the premium tasting and you get a crazy amount of high quality fish for the price. The plating is well done, the flavor combinations are incredible, and there's a hefty list of wines/beer/sake. The staff was really friendly and did a great job of explaining the dishes to us. Bonus points for having the greatest hip hop soundtrack playing the background during dinner!

Incredible experience tasting 20+ items ranging from Sushi to ramen to broths to topped seaweed crackers and soooo much more. It is an expensive restaurant, but you can choose how much you want to spend (100+ should be expected).
Highly recommend visiting for the experience, the variety of food, and beautiful setting

4.5 star service, 4 star food, 3.5 star outside ambiance & comfort, 3 stars pricing / value for the money. Rounding up the average to 4 stars.
Service was friendly and accessible.
Food was universally tasty, but at times over-complicated; I occasionally craved more simplicity vs. a powerful mix of competing flavors.
Outside seating, well, that's really mostly beyond the control of this restaurant, but street noise was annoying, and the over-loud restaurant music just added to the din. At least the heat lamp was very effective.
However, I find the both the price AND the pricing structure of this restaurant to be... unfortunate. Our otherwise lovely waitress started the night out with something like this:
"Our dinners range in price from $89 to $189, with over 100 options! You just let us know what price point you're most comfortable with, and also note what foods you want or don't want..."
My friend and I were a bit puzzled. Without a menu or really anything to really guide us, we just said, "Um, no cilantro... and, er, we like uni and toro?"
"Great! Then, how about $125 per meal?"
"Er, is that the extra for the uni and toro?"
"Well, the price depends upon the both the amount of food and the specific dishes you want and..."
"Okay, um, sure, $125 is fine."
Like, is this "Let's Make a Deal" or? This just felt uncomfortable and confusing to me.
So this -- paired with a shared sake flight -- ended up costing us $425 in total for the 2 of us, which frankly feels a bit on the high side for the food we ate. What really got my goat, though, was that this restaurant separately itemizes (and incorporate into the suggested gratuity) a 5% "SF Mandate Surcharge" for which there's absolutely NO reason, much less any mandate to break out. I know they're not alone in doing this but it's a rude & IMHO unclassy move that one would NEVER see in Japan (or, frankly, most anywhere outside of SF). Please, just be up front with pricing rather than nickel-and-diming (and hiding) costs like this!
Frankly, I'd be happier if Robin just had three price levels, *inclusive of service*, say $120, $170, $220... just making things so much simpler for guests and probably also ensuring a more consistent & balanced income for the front & back of the house.
* * *
So do I recommend this place? Maybe, though I'd suggest waiting until you feel comfortable eating in the (I presume) less noisy inside. Personally, I won't be back, particularly after having been spoiled by incredible omakase meals in Japan that cost a fraction of what Robin charges. But if you're looking for an explosion of tasty flavors, very fresh fish, and quite good service, you could certainly do worse than Robin in SF.

I have been fortunate enough to travel the world and try different cuisines. This by far has been the best meal I have had in a long time. My recommendation is to do the premium omakase with the Sake flight. Not only was the food amazing, the service was top notch. 10/10 would recommend!

Listen to all these rave reviews! If you are within 100 miles of this place, take a detour, stop what you're doing, and go! It is such a gem. The food is excellent. Truly delightful, interesting, melt in your mouth bites. Fun ambiance where you can dress up or down, wonderful staff, great drinks. And most importantly, so consistent! I've been several times over the years and I still can't get enough. Bravo to everyone who keeps this place humming. I love this restaurant!!

We were asked to leave to free up the table for next party! Really? With all due respect, this is not the correct trend for a $$$$ restaurant experience in San Francisco. If a policy by the location, it should also be highlighted at the time of reservation so customers can make an explicit decision if they believe this is the right experience.
