We serve the best teriyaki and sushi in town with the best customer service! :)
We arrived around 6PM. It wasn't busy, and we were seated right away.
Our server Diego was amazing. He had patience with me because for someone who enjoys eating food, I couldn't figure out what I wanted.
After deciding on my Sapporo first, I decided on the pan-fried thick noodles with tofu and ended up ordering an extra side of fried tofu to go (for the leftover noodles I had)
My son requested gyoza for our appetizer and got himself Tekka Don. His bowl was pretty to look at. The orchid on top of the sashimi and the sliced cucumbers encircled the plate.

The food was really good. I got the teriyaki chicken sizzling plate, and friends had other items. We were all happy with our choices. The service was super slow. The waiter doesn't come back to check on you. We had to find someone to ask for the bill and then wait another 20 minutes. I asked for a receipt and didn't receive one. They should check the Convention Center schedule to make sure they have enough staff working for lunch times. The parking is a paid garage across the street. The prices are high for the amount of food received.

Erick my server deserves 5 stars. The food, unfortunately, did not live up to his standards. I don't know if they skimp because it's 50% off for rolls this day but the Rainbow roll was essentially 80% imitation crab meat with slices of fish so thin and small that they were more like garnish. Which makes the discounted roll still seem overpriced as I've had better rainbow rolls in numerous other establishments at similar prices and they were not discounted.

Done with this place. Been coming to Bento Box Midtown forever (seriously, like 50+ times) but today was straight up terrible. Decided to try their spicy salmon roll for the first time and something was seriously wrong with it - not the spice level, but the roll itself was a soggy mess. One bite and I was gagging.
When the server came by to check on things, I was super chill about it and just asked if I could get something different. Instead of actually helping, they come back with this attitude about how 'I should've known it was spicy when I ordered it' 🙄 Like... what? That wasn't even the issue! The roll was just BAD. Their solution? I could order something else at full price. Thanks for nothing.
Can't believe how far downhill this place has gone. Been a regular here for ages but never trying their food again. Save your money and go somewhere else in Midtown - there are way better spots that actually care about their food and customers.
EDIT: And their response to this review? A template message where they didn't even bother to fill in my name - just left '%review_name%' in there. Perfect example of how little they care about their customers. Yikes.

This place is a hit or miss. Some food items are really good, like the ramen and pan fried noodles, while others aren’t worth your money. The pan fried noodles were AMAZING, smoky and spicy with a good variety of seafood and it came on a HUGE plate. Ramen is a pretty big serving too, lots of noodles and toppings. I wouldn’t recommend the sushi rolls. They are pretty pricey, starting at $20 and aren’t that great. Would recommend mikuni or sushi cafe for sushi.

Very chill and relaxing place. The decor and atmosphere was really nice. The food proportions were very generous and the ungai is spot on! It's hard to find places that have the perfect amount of sauce for the unagi bowl. Too bad I live further away but when I come to Sacramento always makes it a priority to come back. Fish is fresh and refreshing!

My 1st time, my son's BD. Almost $80 ...
Double charged on the 8th, reported to manager Immediately Showing double charge on phone. Waited over 5 days to still have to wait more for a refund.... never again.... edited on 1/14/25 even after a refund was said to be done. No returned transaction has happened. The whole week has gone by. I would never take anyone to have this service again, and it was very bad management

The korean bbq wings were good and so was the gyoza. The chicken ramen was not good it did not have flavor and there was hardly any chicken. The server did not come back to ask how the food was, and we eventually had to flag him down for water and napkins.

I visited this restaurant with some friends and coworkers. I ordered the chicken teriyaki and the Lion King sushi rolls. The food was decent, but I stepped outside for a few minutes, and during that time, the waitstaff decided to throw my food away, assuming I wasn’t coming back. This was extremely frustrating and upsetting, especially since I had paid $14 for my meal.
I approached them about the situation, expressing my dissatisfaction and explaining that it wasn’t right for them to discard my food without confirming I was done. Instead of resolving the issue, it turned into an argument. They refused to replace the meal I had already paid for, which I found very unfair. To make matters worse, one of the staff members became rude, and when I asked where my food was, she hung up on me after denying she had thrown it away.
Up until that point, my experience had been fine, but this incident completely changed my opinion of the restaurant. I will not be returning, and I cannot recommend it to others.

This restaurant has the WORST Customer Service I have ever experienced.
I work downtown and have not been since last year because I went there on my one hour lunch break and it took 45 minutes to get my bowl of soup.
Yesterday myself and some coworkers decide to go again, to see if anything has improved. The room was fairly empty. Only about 3-4 tables were taken when we arrived. I had to go up to the hostess table and grab my own menu. When I received my food, I had no utensils and was not provided any. Again, I walked up to the hostess stand and got my own. My coworker's food was cold, despite waiting 30 minutes for it. The lemon in my sushi was so hard it almost chipped a tooth. The portions were incredibly small, cold, unseasoned, and for what it is the food is WAAAY overpriced. As people who work manual labor jobs downtown and often don't have time to prepare our lunches, when we go to eat, we expect a fair price for the quality and amount of food.
I genuinely have No idea how this restaurant has a 4.2/5 rating. One of the worst establishments I have ever been to and I'm surprised it stays in business.
Save your money and your time! It's not worth it.

Called in an order : sesame chicken bento box and a Mr Pib and I asked about the crab wontons in hopes they had plain cream cheese ones. Sadly they don’t and I said “ok never mind then” but the employee still added them to my order anyways. He gave me my total didn’t run my order back to me to verify it was correct. I ended the call then called back because I forgot one order of sushi. While on the phone I asked him if my first order was just the bento box and drink he then said no that it also had the wontons that I never ordered. The giggled and told me he can’t remove them from my order as they were already made. Went in to pick up my order to be greeted by a lady who told me I can’t take them off my order and I must take everything as the food was made already and there was no other way. Essentially she gave me no choice I was already irritated and felt disrespected by the first guy on the phone. Ultimately won’t be coming back here again. Very disappointed with the customer service I received by both the guy on the phone and what I can only assume was a manager of sorts as she referred to the first guy as her employee. Very disappointed and don’t even want to eat the food anymore.

Great, friendly service from the waitress, Autumn. The food wasn't worth it even at half price for the roll. Not great quality fish and tiny pieces on my rainbow roll. Also tried the scallop roll and the pieces were minced so tiny, the texture was imperceptible.

The food was ok, a bit over priced for the quality we got.
I used to love this bentobox, I ordered a volcano and it had more cucumber than fish. The unagi roll had more crab salad than unagi and the sauces were subpar.
The hot sake was a little bitter and sour which indicates spoilage and for $90 was not worth my time to go back.

I visited this sushi restaurant with my fiancé, and our experience was incredibly disappointing. We expected to leave satisfied, especially with the price of only two rolls each, but instead felt completely scammed. We paid over $60 for just four rolls and two sodas, and what we received was far from impressive. The rolls were bland, and to make matters worse, they were packed with shrimp tails and shells. We found ourselves pulling out shells with every bite, which is unacceptable.
While our server, Timmy, provided decent service, it did little to salvage the evening. This was the beginning of our night out, and instead of feeling excited, we left uneasy and hungry. As a first-time visitor, I certainly wouldn't recommend this place to tourists. Maybe locals have a different perspective, but from my experience, this was the worst sushi restaurant I've encountered. As a sushi lover, I am thoroughly disappointed and will not be returning.

Its overly priced for what they serve, which is mediocre rolls and subpar Ramen. Charging exorbitant prices for these poorly made dishes just because of the location in down town. This place was a failure and a let down.

I’ve been to amazing Japanese restaurants all around California from San Diego to Shasta. And honestly I’m not sure if bento box or I love teriyaki is worst. I’ve never gone anywhere and received teriyaki chicken where they put teriyaki on the side. Spent 40 dollars on flavorless teriyaki chicken and tofu. Had to spend an extra 5 dollars to have enough teriyaki sauce for our meals. 50 cents for a teaspoon of teriyaki sauce to pour over bland roasted chicken tofu and rice. I’ll drive up to Redding before I come back here. It’s overpriced and underflavored. Not worth anyone’s time. At least I Love Teriyaki gives you unlimited sauce for free

Employees were nice, friendly, and we had no issues with anyone working here. However, this is probably the worst sushi I have ever tasted in my life.
The salmon had little brown spots and the rice tasted weirdly dry. It just wasn’t for someone who’s spoiled with San Francisco sushi. Not super fresh and (in my opinion) bland.
If you want to eat here, I’d avoid the rolls. I had never seen a roll that expensive before too. 😕

I have never been more upset after eating out. This is maybe the 2nd review I've ever written. So my girlfriend spends 3 days fasting for a medical procedure, and then asks for bento box as her first meal because she loves the Z roll. We get there, and the service from Anna is fairly good. She's attentive, and I explained my gf was extremely hungry, so she suggested starters that would come out very quickly. And then the food started rolling in. The Z roll has tempura asparagus, but this came without. All the vegetables in the roll seemed soggy, and also, the Wasabi given to us was frankly really bad... I could put an entire glob of it in my mouth and swish it around with zero burn or eye watering. We decided we were gonna let the manager know, so we asked Anna to get her for us, and explained that she's been great, we just wanted to inform the management of some issues with the food. The first thing out of her mouth was, "well, im the head server so I also deal with these things if you want to tell me the issues, but I can't just take them off the bill" first of all, we didn't ask, we ASKED to speak with a manager! So I said, "Thank you, I appreciate that. I'd still like to speak to a manager when they're available." To which she informed me that she will go talk to her, but she was busy taking care of something in the back. Anna returned minutes later and continued her "head server" routine, and realizing she, for whatever reason, believed that I was incapable of paying the entirety of my bill, even though she had made me put a card on file for seats at the bar anyways, so I asked for the bill. When she returned, she almost swiped my card before I had to stop her and let her know I was paying cash. I paid my $120 tab and sent her on her way. When she returned with my change, I told her, "I was asking for the manager earlier, NOW I want to see the manager!" After nearly 8 minutes, a timid, mousy woman emerges from the back and begins a conversation to which I explained that this was the most unprofessional interaction with service staff I have ever encountered. When has a customer ever asked to speak with a manager, and "The Head Server" steps up. If I wanted the employee who had worked there the longest, I would have asked for that. The only response was "I'm sorry" in her timid little voice and a look of discomfort, and like she had better things to be doing. I informed her I was never coming back, whatever that meant to her. And we left. Service is horrendous. I'd go to mikunis down the block if given the choice.

ZERO STARS. Bento has been one of my favorite places and I’ve been going here for years…BUT the service has always been so slow, no matter how dead it is. Went there tonight and to say I was disappointed is an absolute understatement. Everything we ordered was absolutely disgusting. The “wasabi” tasted like toothpaste, first off. The Z roll is supposed to have tempura asparagus and it was raw and the whole rest of the roll was literally just filled with seaweed. My boyfriends rolls all came out tasting like they had been sitting out for hours, our salad was soaking wet to the point that I literally poured water out of the bowl, the spring rolls were soggy and absolutely gross. Asked to speak to a manager and our server said that she was the “main server” and she would be handling it, and that she wouldn’t be taking anything off the bill…. Not what we were asking for. At all. When the manager finally came out, she just said “sorry” and that was that. No offer to take anything off (again, not that we were asking) no offer to remake anything. Paid bill and left and will never be returning here again. This place is disrespectful.

Ordered a beef teriyaki sizzling plate, turned out to be alright, some beef was burnt, quality of beef saint seem to high either. Also, not everyone can use chop sticks, and giving cheap, clumsy plastic forks is very offensive. Keep some silverware handy. I may have enjoyed my meal if I could have had a mouthful.

I would first like to start off by saying I’ve been eating at this specific Bento Box for YEARS and I’ll now NEVER go back. The past few times I’ve been here it’s been nothing but a disappointment. The service is terrible. There was hardly any customers inside and it took over 10 minutes for my partner and I to even be acknowledged at all no hello no one minute, nothing at all (this seems to be a habit the last few times I’ve been here ). The atmosphere was full of flies I constantly had to fan my food and at one point even had a fly hit my face and lastly the food was SUCH a disappointment. This use to be the only place I got sushi from and the past few times I’ve been here it taste old and absolutely not fresh. My chicken was not throughly cooked, rice was giving old and the avocados were definitely not ripe, i thought I bit into a rock. When brining this to my waiters attention he dismissed it and said to get something else next time. I order the same order every time I come there’s no reason I should need to try something else and no reason I should of paid full price for items that were supposed to be fresh at my table. BEYOND terrible in all aspects.

Asked for hot sauce on side, they supposedly don’t do that cause people waste sauce. Told waiter little to no hot sauce on noodles. Waiter brought my food and was extremely spicey. Asked if they can fix it they took it back and waiter said they reused all shrimp but new noodles. Any way that’s why I asked for hot sauce on side. Not the best customer service definitely cutting corners here.

We went on a whim. There was a discount on the rolls that night (-50%).
Without the discount the rolls are around $20 each which I found expensive. The rolls were good though.
The hot dish was good too.
Note that they charge extra for hot sauce, like Sriracha (first time it ever happened to me).

I think before coming keep in mind there is paid parking lot to either side of the restaurant so that was something I discovered in coming with a friend!
Food: I think it was decent in taste and looked fresh. I would say the prices were around 12-19 for sushi and most entrees were around 16 dollars up. I would say I got a rice skillet that was very good and fresh but I felt there was a bit too much salt in it because I got a headache from the saltiness which is a bit saddening as I thought it was a pretty good price for skillets. Overall I would recommend for day out with friends or quick bite, lunch deal looks more decent.

I have dinner at this restaurant last night (01/25/2024) and was satisfied with the food and the service. I ordered a chicken bento box, and the food was served in a short time. Actually, I would have given this restaurant a rating of 3 1/2 stars but this option is not available: hence, the 4-star rating. What I personally did not like is the plastic fork instead of the regular utensil. I prefer to eat using regular utensils versus plastic when I am eating in a restaurant and paying $20 or more for my food. I am okay using plastic utensils when ordering to go or eating from food trucks but not in a sit-down restaurant.
And this is my honest and unbiased review.

They've gotten a little pricey for the portion size. I ordered the bento box combo (see pic) for $27 it also came with a small side salad (not pictured) and the portion of meat was small plus they only gave me 1 tiny cup of sauce for my meat. Lol. However, I do enjoy their food and the Americano $15 roll is my favorite.

One sushi roll was slimy and soggy and had a bad after taste, another roll we got was cold and hard. Eric and Rosalie were amazing add the miso for starters because it's the foundation all the quality meal here Eric recommended St Francis without frying it which I appreciate it because it took away from the traditionalness of the roll it had a lot of personality so I had to concentrate on that one first before I had the dragon roll which had a crisp simplicity to it and what I can only identify is almost a pickled cucumber that I would do a disservice If I mix that with the St Francis The ginger will not allow me to distinguish the two apart so I have to commit to one before the other One got eaten but I'm very satisfied. Now I have to come back and have the St Francis fried to understand why I appreciated his recommendation

The worst way to stop patronizing places is if you are forced to. I just wrote a review not long ago about how this was my go to spot for lunch.
I came in a few nights ago and ordered my usual Korean short ribs but this time I ordered a French 🍸. The waiter informed me that they will try to make it because it’s not standard on their menu.
I told them the ingredients pineapple juice , raspberry chombord and vodka. They returned with a drink that looked bright red and if you know a French martini, it’s more white with a fuzzy, looking pink and yellow tint.
I knew something was wrong, but I tried it and it tasted like a water down version of Robitussin with a lemon twist. I was nice about it and told the waiter I cannot drink it so I asked if I can replace it with a regular martini, the infamous lemon drop.
I’ve been to many restaurants and bars, and bowling alleys, comedy clubs, etc. I can go on and on. Most venues know how to make a standard lemon drop. They also could not deliver a lemon drop it was also nasty. I didn’t taste anything, vodka was absent or bootleg. I can only taste Lemon. The only part they got right was the sugar around the rim.
Let me just say I don’t think they had real bartenders just staff following the recipe book. I informed them that I will not be drinking either drink and I would like to be refunded.
The manager came over to ensure me that this is how lemon drops are made etc. and they didn’t want to keep re making drinks although I didn’t want another drink. 2 drinks is enough to show the bartender had zero skills (prob cutting cost). I don’t understand how they can push this on you without offering you a refund. It was a strong arm 💪 straight up robbery.
If this is how all of your cocktails taste then most people must be drunk when they consume it.
Stop being cheap and throw out the off brand vodka! At least promise to have a standard Lemon drop for those martini lovers.
Not only did they drop the ball they dropped the lemon too. I’ll take my business elsewhere since there is no shortage of places to eat.
Good luck

It was a great place to go eat! The sushi was awesome and delicious, the service staff was friendly, I don’t know where else could have been so great to go if not Bento Box!
I don’t know if they did, but I think they raised their prices, which is okay, but I’ve been to sushi places that are just as good but maybe six dollars cheaper.
Anyway, great place, awesome food, a tad too expensive for my taste but if it’s for a special occasion, I think that can be overlooked. 👍🏼
(I can’t remember what sushi rolls we ordered, but I remember loving all of them.)

This place had terrible customer service. Outside of our server Autumn and the main manger eveyone who we interacted with was rude in our experience. Also if they screw up an order and you dont want to pay for it they will not refund you. California law requires no refund policies are posted and visible. Their " right to refuse service" sign does not fulfill this requirement. They also gave us a hard time for wanting to exhange until the main manger had to come come out. Maybe there was miss communication but the way we were treated was not it initially. The place will also get very smokey and ventilation sucks. We will not be back here.

Worst food and customer service. Let's start with them messing up my orders. I ask for steamed gyoza and they gave me deep fried. I asked to substitute avocado for cucumber and they still served avocado.
I didn't like the beef ramen and I asked to exchange it for another flavor. The nice waitress said the manager said I couldn't exchange it so I said I'm returning it then. The waitress asked me to communicate that to the manager. The manager and bartender approached me and said they don't do refunds. The bartender tried convincing me they did me a lot of "favors" but in reality they were fixing their mistakes. I explained to them in order to have that effective they need a displayed sign "no refunds" it's California law. The bartender said
"show me" not knowing I'm a California Real Estate Agent so I know my business laws. I showed him the law code, still refusing a refund. The manager tried telling me there's a "NO REFUNDS" sign outside.
After paying my bill, I see NO SIGN whatsoever. Only thing on display is "Smile you're on camera!" Or "We have the right to refuse service to anyone." She said the 2nd sign means no refunds and I laughed in her face saying it's no where near the same thing.
Anyways, I hope my waitress finds a better job because I feel bad for how her manager treats her.
Will not be back.
**Civil Code Section 1723 of the California state requires a retailer to post their Refund Policy if the policy contains unique requirements. For example, requirements that wouldn't be expected by an average consumer**

Ramen is weak flavored, lemonade is made from minute maid (also weak in flavor), tea is something you soak and pour yourself... this is almost completely stuff you could do at home.
there aren't any real issues with the food or drink other than being bland, though.

Food was good, got the unagi heaven and sunrise rolls. Both of them are really good, but not a fan of the 'rolls are half price all the time' gimic. It's an annoying marketing thing that is unnecessary, just put the regular price on the menu. I don't know, it feels like a psychological trick to make you think "wow I got so much money off" or something like that.

Why is this sushi so good? I wandered in here for a late dinner one night and the sushi was so good I couldn't stop thinking about it the whole next day. Had to come back for a second night in a row. Is it the rice? Idunno. It's just amazing. And really good miso. I eat a lot of sushi and this place is tops.

My family came into this location as a family of 8 and the lady at the front told us it'll be 20-25 mins so we asked for a menu and she looked at us funny and asked for the menus back and told us to wait outside til we were called, out in the burning heat.... after that I decided to take my business else where I think she was racial profiling us I will never go back to this location again..... wouldn't reccomend I still didn't receive that call. I don't know the lady name but whoever was running the front on 8/6/23 at 4pm& after.

Ordered 4 rolls and 2 alcoholic drinks. The drinks were terrible… ended up not finishing either of them. The sushi was just ok, the sushi rice was kind of weird. Wouldn’t be back. Expensive for what you get. Our server was nice.
