The only thing that was good was the customer service, the food was horrible, with some rolls being greasy, tempera bland, and miso served in ugly yellow bowls and plastic spoons. There is a reason why all the 5 five reviews are from 5-6 years ago.

Instead of Hello Sushi it should be called Happy Sushi . I came in here hangry at my husband and I left smiling . The staff is very attentive and nice . It was my husbands first time having sushi and he had a wonderful experience. The staff made us feel welcomed and we even got free macaron ice cream at the end and we got to sample their new menu. A hidden gem in Redlands. Definitely coming back again.

The food and service were great! We came in 30 mins before closing and they were so polite, sat us immediately and got us drinks. The sushi was amazing and the chef even made us a few special rolls to try on the house. Price was very reasonable. We would definitely come here again!

VERY kind and quick service. I came in pretty late and ordered all you can eat. Ignore my messy eating seen in the picture haha. The best rolls we tried were the Jessica, the salmon lover, and the crunchy tempura. The rest were still good, just not mentionable. In terms of price, we paid 80$ for two people for the ayce. They did not charge us for not being able to finish the round. We wanted to take leftovers but we were not allowed to, we even offered to pay extra (but no dice). I highly recommend trying the desserts! Some of the best mochi ice cream I have ever had. We received the dessert for free because it was a birthday celebration.

First and last time ever coming here. I ordered a calimari tempura roll which the calimari stunk and tastes like dead fish. I spat it out on a napkin. Also had a roll with spicy tuna that was brown nothing red. Had 3 pieces from a roll that had yellow tail and it tastes like mildew.
The chefs and anyone else handing fish should know it's not supposed to stink like rotting fish or taste like it either. Why would you serve this??
I canceled the sushi pieces before they brought them out because I didn't want anymore surprises or worse to get sick.
I paid full price for AYCE and didn't get a break on the bill after informing the nice lady server. I won't pay with my health. Sign on the window says A, honestly disgusted. Should be an F if that's what they're serving.

Service was excellent but you guys are slipping.

I'm sharing this review because I care for your business and have a few things you can improve on.

I will update my review to 5 stars when you respond with your measures to improve on my concerns.

First, I've eaten here too many times to count - but not recently.

I was a party of 6 last night and was not informed of your surcharge for a party of 6. The restraint had 3 other tables when I was there. To charge a surcharge on a nearly empty restaurant is unacceptable, because if you had 2 tables with a party of 3 it wouldn't have been an impact on your preparation at all.

The sushi was not memorable at all. There was not a single piece that was prepared artistically. Your siracha tastes like Tabasco. When I eat sushi, I expect care in the preparation, not assembly line. I was not impressed.

I know you can do better, I've had excellent meals there. Your kitchen simply did not impress me to want to go back.

I want you to succeed, I want you to stay in business and thrive by providing excellence.

I hope you take this review in the kind spirit in which it's intended, respond with action, and get back to the sushi house that I have loved for many years.

My last visit prior to this experience this place was extremely disappointing since I reiterate this *was* my favorite sushi place but this was the final straw...

My wife decided to give it another shot and placed an online order in advanced and the order confirmed that it would be ready by 2:30. As I write this the time is now 3:05pm and we're *still* waiting for them to complete the order. The restaurant has one table and again, just like the last time we ate here the sushi chef is dragging his feet.

Do not waste your money coming here. Dined in, didn't even finish the whole all you can eat round because it took about 45 mins to get 3 rolls and appetizers out. Didn't try the fresh sushi because they never brought it out and yet. Customer who walked in 20 mins after us got his. Waitresses were polite, the cooks are slow. The sushi to be honest was not good. Just fake crab meat overload and barely any fresh sushi in the fried rolls we got. No presentation, slow food service, paid $75 for what is suppose to be AYCE, but got 3 sloppy rolls.

This placed used to be great, but hasn't been the same since the pandemic. Terrible customer service. I went to take my family to dinner. We were seated, with only two other families in the whole restaurant, who were there for awhile and already served. Three waitresses, and sat there for over 20 minute never addressed, not even once, they just continued to circle around. Didn't even ask us what drinks we wanted or hold on we'll be right with you etc....
Terrible customer service. This is why you shouldn't hire little kids with no experience and no care for customer service or your business.

This place is pretty good but I do have to say for $35 a person it's not really worth that price. The wait staff is all kids and they were all goofing off and on their phones. Some rolls are a hit and miss and the crunchy "fried" rolls were undercooked and soggy. We've been going to a different sushi place in riverside and decided to try something alittle closer to home and I'm kindof wishing we just went to riverside instead. It literally took till right before we left to get one refill on a drink and the young kid who was making sushi went about it pretty haphazardly and was very lazy and messy. The slices of the rolls were humongous and everything fell apart. I've been eating sushi for 25 years and this place just isn't worth the price for the quality in totality. The wait staff barely tends to you and the poor guy making sushi had to stop because the other kids his age weren't doing anything and goofing off and cussing in the lobby, running around, and on their phones. They were dragging trash through the lobby and it smelt horrible, kids were vaping in the lobby next to the tables and bathrooms, kids were leaving every 5 minutes to vape and left in a herd. For dinner being $82 for a couple, I would expect a better experience and better food quailty.

Sushi is way too big, not ideal for All you can eat. They make it like this on purpose so people are not able to order a lot. Sushi pictured on menu is not the same they serve, and sever stated “ oh sorry, we have to change and update our menus” ! SMH. Then proceed to charge us an extra all you can eat because they thought One of the people we had with us was eating out of somebody’s plate, keep in mind that that person is vegetarian, and therefore could not eat any of our sushi! The server did not even give us a heads up, and when confronted said, “ oh , I am sorry!”

I came in an hour before closing (I’ll be it that’s on me) but when our food arrived the eel was super grey and tasted like I was at the pier. My company and I lost our appetite for the roll and were banking on the bento box to satisfy our appetite. When it arrived unfortunately the results weren’t much better. The salmon smelled foul and after the experience we had with the previous roll we weren’t going to even attempt to eat it. When we tried to bring it up to the owner he wouldn’t even give us the time of day sending his poor waitress out to deliver the news that they were not going to help us. Insanely overpriced for the poor quality and terrible management. As well we were ignored for the majority of the time we were there except for once we placed a complaint. I’m a server so normally I would never post a complaint like this but I paid $40 for a meal I didn’t even eat so I found that extremely unfair. At any place I’ve worked they would have comped that and the way we were treated was just extremely unfortunate. No hate to our server I’m sure she was doing her best but the owner needs to take some time to look at how his business is run and check the quality of his food before he sends it out to customers

Edit- since the owner has decided to comment an incorrect statement of what happened I’d like to clarify. We never asked for it to be cooked or to receive the meal for free. We had asked if we could pay for what we ate, the beef teriyaki and the tempura and the two miso soups. We never asked to get free food and we never asked for anything to be cooked. I find it hilarious that someone who didn’t even speak to us about the situation can comment and blame us for what had happened. Completely unprofessional and incredibly rude. I feel so sorry for anyone who works there because if this is how customers are treated I can’t imagine how the workers are. Customer service is clearly not something this business cares about and I surely hope they can learn from this instead of bashing customers.

Truly disappointed in our visit today. Our service was excellent, it's the food that was not good. This was officially my first ever bad sushi experience. Literally. I ordered a baked roll, it was NOT fresh my friends. It had somewhat of a foul smell. Said roll was also drenched in so much sauce, (they were trying to hide something) every piece I picked up fell apart. It was a mess. I couldn't stand the way it smelled or looked. I literally just picked out the crab from the roll and left the rest. Weather was also unusually hot and they did not have the AC on, they had the front door wide open and there were flies surrounding us as we ate. I couldn't stand it. We paid our bill and left. I have a feeling this place may be under new ownership or management. It just isn't at all what it was before. Ginger had a super funky smell also. We did not order all you can eat today either, but we were being watched as we ate our meal like we were. Very uncomfortable to eat whilst being eyeballed. Just an overall bad experience. I will not be returning here.

Came here for dinner and was very excited until food was served. First bite of eel from the dragon roll was overwhelmingly fishy. Was nervous when I moved onto my bento box and had four pieces of sushi waiting for me who all had an equally fishy smell. I had already eaten the rest of my bento box and waited about ten minutes before we could flag our waitress down. We asked to see the person in charge… waited a few minutes nothing then a server asked if she could help. We explained the situation and only offered to take off the dragon roll. We asked for a discount on the bento box, only asking for fair pricing and the waitress was having to run around because the owner was apparently too good to discuss the food with us. We just wanted a fair exchange or a replacement of the raw fish with something cooked. The owners final ruling from the back room without ever talking with us was only the removal of the dragon roll. Very nice customer service! So much grace and patience was given right until we walked out the door and we practically got told to go kick dirt by a man who couldn’t even approach the table. This place does not take care of its customers!

One of the worst dine in customer service experiences I've had in a long time! I was the only one in the restaurant; and I was basically ignored. Furthermore, I had to ask for my order twice. The five staff members where too busy visiting with one another to notice me in the first place. The main dishes arrived before my appetizers or my chopsticks. Seriously, you can't make this up! Moreover, I guess the pandemic has created this new environment because I'm experiencing this everywhere. Ordered Cajun tuna, was brought overly seared tuna with no Cajun on it. Had a hair in it when it was brought back with some kind of salt seasoning on it definitely not Cajun. The chef said it was an eyelash. Definitely wasn’t an eyelash it was a full curly hair and I don’t even wear eyelashes. Baked Muscles are gross, covered in Mayo and weren’t even warm when brought to me. This place would be good for people who don’t know what good sushi is or eat the cooked stuff. Really disappointed in the direction this restaurant has gone. I've gone here for years, but have noticed a huge change in the service and quality since covid. But this past visit was so bad. My friend and I went for an early dinner, we were seated and we were beginning to order when a customer started vomiting on the floor near our table. Multiple staff refused to clean it up and it sat there for a while. I heard one server tell a customer asking her for help to address it that she couldn't because she had tables. My friend and I lost our appetites and left. We had to hop over vomit to exit. If they are okay continuing to serve food while there's a hazard there, I can't imagine how they address cleanliness of the areas we customers don't see. I won't return.

I don’t recommend this place and only gave it 3 stars for the nice service. The food was terrible and the two ppl making the rolls were sloppy and didn’t taste good. They spent more time watching the soccer game which took long for the food to be made.

Well my wife who is 7 months prego we stopped at the hospital but have an appointment at 2:30 so we are 3 hours to early and she decided on sushi . She said it’s ok they have cooked sushi so safe for the baby so I agreed . Great time up until the bill . You see they have a 33 all you can eat buffet but my wife had only one roll but incase she wanted to sample something extra I ordered a cooked roll for her which she had maybe 3 pieces of the 8 from my dish and I ordered three rolls and some beer for myself. We got charged for two all you can eat buffets so as to say wonderful time there the hospitality was very nice not full disclosure but I payed with out a fuss . Unfortunately it did ruin my experience there and will choose another sushi place to eat spent 90 on 4 rolls and two beers and tea for her . Just so you know eat your own food or they will charge if they notice we was completely open didn’t hide anything but I’ll take my business else’s where . They didn’t say anything just put it in the bill . So no thank you on coming back .

I always order from here on Door Dash and I love their sushi. I went into the restaurant for the first time yesterday and the customer service was so bad. There were only 2 parties in the entire restaurant and 4 waitresses standing around. They forgot 2 of my orders and the waitress was not personable at all. She seemed kinda rude.

The hostess with the beanie is the sweetest thing ever; so attentive and aware. Atmosphere pretty ok. Miso tasted like beef bullion cube 😒. Place was not crowded and server was less than attentive🙄. Fish was really nice; well cut and fresh. Portions were small overall🥲. Salad dressing is like a wierd thousand island thing😳. Oh...and the k-pop 🤮. Wanted to love it but simply found it ok.

No all you can eat! & the food was not that great. I didn't like the salmon lover roll at all and I love salmon. The stuffed jalapeños were ok. The only food item that was good was the ice cream macaroons. Service was great though! Everyone is very friendly and working hard.

Just witnessed what could possibly be the manager of the restaurant harassing a female employee. Talk chinese man with glasses. Was demanding her to look at the menue and read to him what it says, then proceeds to point his finger at some dirty dishes to pick up and was standing right behind her with his arms crossed. Poor girl looked nervous. This is harassment and i will be reporting him to the Labor Department.

This place is ok. It's located in an old strip mall and the inside is also very dated. The staff is extremely nice, but nothing about the place was overwhelming nor was the sushi amazing. Hesitant I will go back again.

If I could give a negative rating, I most certainly would.
I won’t return here.

This is the second time I have overheard the manager and one of the sushi chefs, speaking to a female server in a horrible manner. (Different girls on different days). I’m sorry but anyone who speaks in a harsh and condescending manner to a young lady the way they were is verbally abusive! They probably treats other workers the same way or worse!

Please think before supporting abusive employers!!

There are many sushi places in the area - give your business (and your money) to someone who treats their people right!!! 😞

If u where you I’d take my taste buds to an area with better customer service such as MEIGA SUSHI DOWN THE STREET! Employees are very rude

Used to be out #1 sushi place to go to weekly. We do not mind that the AYCE is no longer available, but if we are going to be paying full price for each individual roll please make sure they are full rolls and not sloppy. Place has definitely gone down and taste is no longer the same.

I haven’t been to Hello Sushi in awhile because I was dissatisfied with the service as far as take out goes, and we were customers for a long time, it was our go to for the BEST Sushi around, but, on Saturday we decided to give it a try again, I ordered the Dragon Crunch Roll and a Salmon Handroll as well as a Yellowtail Hand Roll, I’ve got to say it was THE BEST!!!!!! Seriously there was no scrimping on the fish… Thank You Hello Sushi for the great service…. We will definitely be returning…

Hello Sushi has always been one of our favorites. We hadn't been there since before the pandemic and we thought it was safe to go back, maybe we should have waited a little longer. No all you can eat. The sushi bar is still not open and worse the sushi bar was littered with to go boxes bags etc. I get that they don't feel safe enough to open the bar but at least keep it tidy and welcoming. The staff was very sweet and attentive but they didn't know their own menu and our waitress even told us that she wouldn't eat raw fish. The fish was fresh and tasty but the selection was limited with none of my super favorites like Uni, Sweet Shrimp. Not even the daily special of fresh oysters. One actual hi-lite was an excellent tuna collar. Their wasn't a single Japanese employee in this Japanese restaurant and the three sushi masters were Latinos and they were chatting away in Spanish. Kinda kills the ambiance. I totally understand how difficult this time must be for a sushi restaurant. Staff shortages and supply issues must be challenging. I'm going to wait awhile but I will give Hello Sushi another chance. I hope they can bring back the fun and the all you can eat.

My first real sushi experience and I couldn't be more pleased. Service was excellent, prompt. Our waitress was on top of it. Checking in to see if we needed anything from time to time, but not too much. The food was amazing. Great place for my first real experience.

I lived in Redlands two years ago and used to go here all the time. Wow what two years have done to this place. Aside from getting rid of the all you can eat, which is fine, the presentation and taste of the sushi has gone down significantly. The rolls were rolled so poorly they fell apart in our hands and they tasted just meh. Taste was 6/10 but they're priced for sushi that is 10/10. Go somewhere else for sushi.

The service is always very fast. I guess the packaging could be better but the food always arrives in good condition.

The fish is always high quality for the price and the portions are large. Albacore always seared very precisely. Salmon skin is some of the best i have ever had.

I have driven by this place for the last 2 years Ive lived out here in Redlands and had no idea a sushi place was back here!! Right now they do have a face mask requirement as you walk through the door to sit and dine in. I get there and was immediately seated. They have nice holiday Christmas music playing in the background for the holiday. It was clean amd is able to hold quite a few people here. They only had two riceless rolls but I had to try the "Queen" it is a roll with spicy tuna, shrimp tempura wrapped in soy paper and surrounded with raw salmon with spicy mayo and capers on top!!! So delicious!! After I ate the first bite I realized underneath was a small slice of cucumber the piece of sushi was placed on. The 1 roll by itself was 18.99$. 8 yummy pieces. The wasabi isnt as strong as I have had. I stepped outside my comfort zone and ordered an appetizer called jalapeno bombs!! It is a jalapoleno stuffed with cream cheese and raw tuna deep fried. I decided to give the deep fried tuna a chance. I took one bit and Immediatly thought I should have ordered the green baked mussels or spicy edemanme. I personally don't like my tuna deep fried. Its not like it was bad I personally just don't like the flavor. I will have to go back and try baked mussels and edemanme. The "QUEEN" roll had me making yum yum noises every bite!!! A bit pricy but you get what you pay for!! Those 2 items costs me about 28 bucks. Good food but a little on the pricy side. Very well worth it. I will most definantly be coming back!!

HS was always good but the quality seems to have gone up. I had the shrimp tempura, edamame and the udon beef noodle. All were delicious and the Japanese beer was cold too. I left full and happy.

Placed an order through their own website at 730pm. Arrived at 8pm. They didn't even know I had placed an order. Saw the older man go to the line and find my ticket and hold it up. Then they told me it would be about 7 minutes. They didn't say sorry or anything. I had ordered the baked salmon roll and it was so haphazardly thrown together. Furthermore, it wasn't even what was described on their site which is a California roll inside. For some reason there was cream cheese. I've had this same roll before and it was good so I'm disappointed. Won't be going back. There are too many sushi places out here to go back to bad service.
