Not as busy as other Teppenyaki places like Benihana's (2+ hour wait? No thanks!) so we were able to be seated right away. Our server was very attentive, answered any questions we had, and regularly cleaned away any empty plates to keep the counter open. The chef was energetic and entertaining with the standards like the onion volcano, though he added a twist and made it into a steam train too. Better than a chef at another restaurant that was practically lethargic and a big letdown.

In terms of the food, honestly flavor wise it was a bit on the blander side. A bit more salt or butter would help out a lot. The sauces helped a bit except ironically they didn't stick well to the meats since the meats were so juicy (a good thing really). The steak was melt in your mouth soft and tender. We all were a bit surprised by the soup though, a nice light but flavorful broth rather than some diluted miso. But being slightly cheaper than other places like Shogun, I'm fine with it. And next time I'll specify a bit of customization to compensate.

Came in on Saturday night with the parking lot having a decent amount of parking . Only about a 15 minute wait around 6 pm
Chef javier was on point with his fire tricks really entertained my little ones! the filet and shrimp were amazing!

Our server Larissa was attentive and honored our request for the Surprise birthday song and ice cream 🥳

Will be coming back and trying out more appetizers and rolls soon

Tokyo Wako is located off Ontario Mills Pkwy in the Ontario Gateway Center.

Stopped in for lunch as was not disappointed with the food. The portions served were plenty. Usually lunch portions are smaller, this wasn't the case.

The lunch meal includes soup and rice, however, there's an additional cost for fried rice... it's worth it though. The steak and chicken were cooked perfectly, both nice and juicy, and the veggies were good as well.

It wasn't crowded at all when I went in for lunch so the food came out quick.

Oh ya, they also have a sushi bar as well as a bar-bar.

I'd go back again for lunch, and dinner over at the teppan grill.

Great experience and outstanding food. The hospitality from the beginning needs to be addressed. The host wasn’t very welcoming and the server we had was just ok. No smile, no conversation whatsoever. I know they work for tips, but tips isn’t automatic. First the server delivered us our sushi and she placed it so hard on the table that the sushi lost its appearance. She did apologize, but then it took her awhile for her to refill our drinks. The chef was outstanding. Humorous and welcoming. I would go back again, but hopefully the hospitality will be better. We are paying an average of $50 a person, so let’s work on it.

We got a whole grill for the two of us. It wasn't planned that way. It just worked that way. The food is good but not very busy at all. I believe that their location has something to do with it. The food is good, and the wait staff is quick and attentive.

I booked Tokyo Wako Ontario to entertain my friend and his family from overseas. I had a good dining experience here 10 years ago and hoped we could enjoy the dinner. I was wrong. Totally wrong. We were seated by one of the teppanyaki grill. The place was so worn and outdated. The tabletop is sticky and greasy, and the carpet is dirty that I couldn’t tell its original color. The waitress looks like she had a bad day. She never smiles. Other than taking our order, she didn’t come back to check if were doing good or whether we need anything, or more water or drink. She didn’t even come to remove our salad bowl for the whole time. Also, she didn’t come to ask whether we want the dessert or fruit. The only thing she came back is to give me the bill. The restaurant was not busy. There were only two tables of diner including us. I found she was sitting by front lobby checking her phone when going to rest room. Food is so so, nothing to brag about. One thing I do not understand is why the cook serve fried rice first. I thought it should be served after our main course stake and seafoods. I wanted to entertain my friends and his family, hopping to have a good dining experience. But at the end, I felt so embarrassed. I will never come back again. Ever.

This is by far my Families Favorite place to go to for any occasion! We always get the best service from the cooks to the waiters. Andy the manager received us with welcoming and warm greetings which made us feel right at home and appreciated as a customers. Our waiter Andrew was on point tonight and Malik our cook gave us excellent service and served us delicious food! These three guys made our night! Thank you!

If you are just there for the show then you’ll be fine. If you’re expecting authentic Japanese teppanyaki you’ll be sorely disappointed. The food is an Americanized version. The scallops and shrimp are overdone and completely bland. The fillet mignon was cooked perfectly but also lacked flavor. I know I’m expecting a lot considering that we aren’t in Japan but I expected it to come close.

The gentleman that cooked our food was great. I purchased the Udon and it took a long time to come out and the chicken that was added was dry. Everyone else seemed happy with theirs. The waitress didn't update me on my food to let me know why it took about 45 minutes to come out. Could also check on drinks. Very pricey and have gone to other restaurants with better food.

I had an excellent time here and the food was phenomenal! You can tell it’s gonna be a good time just upon arrival. When you walk in it’s so spacious and well lit and the hosts are very kind and prompt. I ordered lemonade and the regular hibachi chicken as well as the spicy hibachi chicken and fried rice. I recommend everything! Did not expect them to exceed Benihanas but they did. The soup to start is really good as well. The service and the atmosphere was outstanding even from the staff not directly associated with my table. Really big thanks to Larissa because my drink was never even half way empty and thank you Michelle for making sure I had an excellent night and giving amazing service. I recommend this place for date nights, family nights or anytime you just want good service and food. Thank you ALL again!

Take your out of town guest here or have a date night. Food is delicious, chefs are entertaining, large groups are free to be loud and if you're a group of four or less you'll share a grill with others. We've been several times and never disappointed.

Sorry to say this was a disappointment. The chef we had was not really interested in cooking. He was just going through the motions. We love Japanese steak house, Ichiban, places and have enjoyed experience from coast to coast. Most have very enthusiastic chefs that love what they do. This guy was just not that person. The food was overcooked and dry. The seasoning was not even close to correct. I gave the atmosphere 1 star because the restrooms where filthy. The manager needs to re evaluate what he is doing.

Loved having my granddaughters birthday dinner here last night Thursday. She is of special needs and the lovely host was nice enough to accommodate the big room for us to be more comfortable.
The service was exceptional… from server to chef to the gentleman helping out with our refills, everyone was so welcoming and attentive.
Will definitely be returning.
The food was great and the little birthday ice cream was definitely a treat for my granddaughter im sure she enjoyed watching the show✨⭐️💫

I usually try to leave positive reviews, but we had a pretty bad experience when my group ate here on 7/1/23. We had a reservation, and even though we arrived early, we were not seated until 10 minutes after the reservation. I usually find this to be acceptable, but then we still had to wait another 10 minutes to order drinks and apps. It took a few minutes to receive the drinks. Another party arrived at our table 20 minutes after we had been seated. It almost felt like they were delaying service until another group arrived. Our order was taken about 5 minutes after the other group was seated, so we had to wait 35 minutes to order. Our apps arrived at the table at the same time as the other party, even though we ordered 10 to 15 minutes before their order was taken. Then we had to wait another 20 for a chef to arrive at our table. The food was okay, but I would not say it was great. All that being said, our chef Adam and server Andrew were awesome. They did their best to improve our experience.

Last night I was able to go to Tokyo Wako for my sister's 35th Birthday and we really had an AMAZING time!! ANDREW✨️✨️ our waiter was super chill and really nice he was friendly he didn't seem irritated when we kept asking him to grab things I mean we are not needy but he was there with a SMILE EACH TIME😁😁😁 he was very knowledgeable of the menu which I liked his recommendations were Fabulous you can tell that he enjoys not only life but his job and he made sure my sister Birthday was special & HIS ASSISTANT HELPING HIM KEEP OUR TABLE CLEAN WAS ALSO SOOO NICE EVERYTIME I TURNED AROUND HE MADE SURE I WAS CLEAR OF ANY UNWANTED DISHES WHICH I ABSOLUTELY LOVVVE SO THANK YOU FOR YOUR WONDERFULATTENTIVENESS!! OUR CHEF DON WAS THE BEST!!! I Had an opportunity to take my dad and son to Tokyo Wako for Father's day. We had a great time. The service was first rate, the food was prepared fast and was delicious. Cara, the bartender, makes a great Mojito. What's really enjoyable is the overall experience. I definitely recommend Tokyo Wako.

Food and service is great! But Only the Teppan tables were open. My date and I wanted a more intimate setting so we asked for a booth and they abliged. That was really cool of them. But they closed at 9pm on a Friday which was a bummer when we got there at 8.

This review is strictly for the general manager Andy. We came in to celebrate my sisters Doctorate graduation and he really ruined the experience. We had a reservation for 12:30pm and half of our party was here at 12pm and he stated he could seat us as soon as our other half came (understandable). Our other half came in at 12:15pm and he then stated he could not seat us because there are walk ins coming in. He was extremely rude when addressing us and stated he said he was able to seat us earlier. It really hindered our experience for such a beautiful celebration especially given that the host was apologetic on his behalf. It is not appropriate for a general manager to speak rudely and lie about what he had said. This is unfortunate because it was our first interaction as soon as we walked in. Hopefully he receives proper training with addressing people.

From the beginning to the end, our experience here was GREAT! In making the reservation, the hostess over the phone was so helpful and patient as she answered all my questions with no hesitation. We were here to celebrate my Mom's 70th birthday and our experience was wonderfull All thanks to our AMAZING Chef Adaml Adam was very entertaining and attentive to everyone's needs, as we had a couple of picky eaters in our party, LoL Adam made sure that everyone was taken care of and especially my Mom! He is definitely a people person, very witty and his personality, a breath of fresh air. He definitely is the Chef to ask for when visiting the Ontario location. The food was so good, the steak and shrimp was cooked to perfection. Thank you Adam for making my Mom's 70th Birthday Celebration so memorable and so much fun!

I've been at this location a few times, each times it was fairly pleasant. I recently had lunch there, the customer service has definitely gone downhill, it was a surprise birthday celebration for my hubby, told the hostess then here comes the waitress, oh so we are celebrating birthdays today, I was sooo disappointed, I told the waitress it was suppose to be a surprise, not once did she apologize. We then order a sushi item, waited for about 30 minutes and nothing, we asked the waitress, she then said oh we are out, then proceeded to leave until we asked her uhhh can we get a menu so we can get something else? She then went to grab a menu handed to us then not a word just left to attend to another table, this has been the most awful customer service I have ever experienced, needless to say, I would definitely not ever step a foot in the restaurant again.. they need to train their staff better.

I don't know how my previous review was removed but when I dined at this restaurant in December I ate here and the food wasn't horrible but after I paid I saw a cockroach crawl out from under the grill... when we brought this to the management's attention, they didn't seem to be concerned and offered us a free food item or a discount if we came back. I declined because who would want food from a roach infested restaurant. I wasn't expecting anything in return it's just the lack of concern by tokyo wako that brought on this review, and I feel that others should know as well. We will see if this gets removed again.

Came in with family called 3 minutes before I came was told there was no wait time so I didn't reserve. When arrived I was told it'll be a 15 minute wait then 35 minutes nothing 1 hr and 15 minutes later where told we can sit on the dining side only us "THE BLACK CUSTOMERS" were told we would have to wait additional time which is ridiculous terrible customer service to allow kids to wait a hr and a half and not speak to let us know we could've sat on dining side from the beginning....

The food was just ok and lacked the flavor it should have had, but it’s the First time ever having a cook toss his fork at me and missed my face by 6 inches. No sorry Nothing
The cook was lacking and could not handle his fork and knife. Had it hit me or my kids. This would have been a very big issue. The tempura was served with out the sauce and the fried rice was just 1 small bowl that was over priced. I will not be going back to this location again.

Came here tonight to celebrate my nephews birthday and the 5 stars are truly for our Chef & Server they were both amazing! We had Chef Don and he put on such a good show, he was funny, lighthearted and very accommodating as two people in our party had a shellfish allergy. The food was tasty and seasoned well. Our sever (who’s name I forgot) was so awesome he was a younger gentleman with glasses. He was super nice and attentive and even gave us recommendations on food. I have to say the host and other staff does need to improve, she was not very welcoming and was passive aggressive when my husband asked how long the wait was for the table to be ready, but we just ignored it and didn’t let that affect our night. Also, upon arrival there was nobody up front but i did see staff walk past and they didn’t at least acknowledge us and say “we’ll be right with you” or “we’ll get the host for you; just a moment”. All they did was stare as they walked past? Okay lol. Other than that It was a good time, and I’d probably only come back to have Chef Don as our chef again & the server too. Dealing with the host and other staff honestly does turn me away though. I’d suggest they bring some hosts with more welcoming energy, and better communication and customer service, that’s the 1st impression of the restaurant, and so far from other reviews I can agree that there’s been issues with some staff there. Again thank you to Chef Don and our sever (sorry I forgot your name) you guys made our night great!

This was extremely overpriced and the service was horrible, the waiter had an attitude the entire time. The cheft did not provide a good show or atmosphere for us. Extremely disappointed for a dinner that was 400+ dollars. Definitely won't be coming back.

The server and the chef were great! The host, needs training. He told the young lady taking over host stand to seat large walk ins before seating small party reservations. We had a 2 person reservation, got there 5 minutes early and he had us wait 20 minutes while seating other walk ins.

My friend is a fan of this at the location in Pasadena which is always packed. We came here on the weekday for lunch and it was literally empty so we had the whole place to ourselves the whole time we were there. The chef was nice and cooked our food on the grill. He did the fire tunnel thing with the onions for his trick. The fried rice was a bit too greasy for me but my friend is a fan. I think I would try the steak or sushi next time.

This place is good. Been coming here for years. Tbh, I consider this place the cousin to Benihanas. This place is particular is a bit run down. But the chefs are entertaining and the food is good. Bar needs improvements, but they have the essentials. All the draft and bottled beers are Japanese, they dont have Corona or Dos Equis. I had the ribeye wirh fried rice, it was good, tender meat, its cooked on the cook top, not grilled. But it was good. I rexcokend you try it, but make reservations if you want the Tepanyaki experience.

To start the water taste like dirty dish water. And when I talked to the waiter about it. He said they get a lot of complaints about the water. So one would think you would fix that problem. Then the chef comes and kept dropping his utensils and just making a mess of the food. I ordered steak medium and it was well. Then the check comes. And they charge $4.25 extra per person for fried rice. So save your time and money. And go to your local Panda Express. I'm sure it will taste a whole lot better. And at a quarter of the price.

Glad there is a Tokyo wako in Ontario mills! Very nice restaurant and friendly staff. We had larissa as our server and she was very attentive and friendly. Alexander was our chef and was entertaining!
We recommend the emperor steak with extra garlic butter!
We will be returning again soon

I love going to this place, however, I do not like the service they have the girl serving. She is unprofessional with her clothes. There is a place and time for the way she was dressed, however in this case, it is the wrong time and place. Her shirt was open to the extreme where her chest can falls out. My wife also comment on her way of dressing because it is inappropriate for a restaurant. The food she carried out could've touch her chest. Then my wife found a piece of hair in the salad. It wasn't my hair because it was black, therefore, I believe it belong to the girl that doesn't know what she was doing. She doesn't understand the menu when we asked her, so I think she called someone over which I believe was a manager. I thought as a manager, they has to understand the menu, however, he doesn't understand the menu either. When they finally got our order, we got more frustrated because the order was all wrong. Who let this kind of girl work in a restaurant without any knowledge of the menu and unprofessional. The most unpleasant sight I saw while walking to the restroom was I saw them two flirting out in the open in a restaurant fill with people! That is the reason why she doesn't return to our table. Such poor customer service from her. Also the manager doesn't act as the manager.

They have the option of the food being ordered at as a sit down dinner or the chef can cook it inferring of you. Also before you sit down you can ask to feed their koi fish which can be very relaxing

Great experience and outstanding food. The hospitality from the beginning needs to be addressed. The host wasn’t very welcoming and the server we had was just ok. No smile, no conversation whatsoever. I know they work for tips, but tips isn’t automatic. First the server delivered us our sushi and she placed it so hard on the table that the sushi lost its appearance. She did apologize, but then it took her awhile for her to refill our drinks. The chef was outstanding. Humorous and welcoming. I would go back again, but hopefully the hospitality will be better. We are paying an average of $50 a person, so let’s work on it.

Been here multiple times over the years and the food is always good.

This time we reserved for a group of ten and they gave us a private room with the perfect amount of space in U shape. Very cozy and felt like we had the place to ourselves.

Amazing staff. Got a table on a Saturday afternoon no wait and fast service everyone and everything was great dropped 150$ on me and my girlfriend and I feel everything was worth the money. Definitely will come again.

They said an hour wait for a group of 9 so we waited and after an hour the manager comes up and tell us we needed to wait an other hour due to a chef that didn’t show to work

Went to dinner here with business associates. The menu is extensive, but well laid out, making selections easy. I had the Hibachi Tuna Steak, I wish I could cook tuna this well at home! The vegetables were cooked to perfection, the fried rice was nice and tasty, but the Tuna was supremely done. I will remember this dining experience for a long while and place Tokyo Wako on a list of places to visit on the next trip.

My brother raved about this plave and brought me to try it. I called to make sure they had sushi and they said yes. When i went inside to put my name on the list, i asked again about the shushi and they said yes. Finally sat down and asked for sushi and was advised the sushi person doesn't come in till dinner. We Got there at 1230 Sat at 1245 and didn't start serving anything till 130. Someone forgot to put the flavor in the soup, so it was hot water. They offered to replace it, but that even took about 30 min to get . The cook was nice. Waitress had really long fake nails.. kinda grossed me out. Hopefully she cleans under her nails. Food was whatever. Def wouldn't go back. 1st and last experience

2 stars because the guy who I think was the owner or manager was trying his best to make it a good experience. Service was bad , food had no flavor, soup was water with veggies, salad came late, they forgot my food, my husband wanted sushi I wanted rice so we came here and they didn't have sushi. (I work in a restaurant so I understand things happen and I don't like reviews but This was a really bad experience, even the other people at the table agreed)

Flavorless miso soup.
Came for lunch. Sat us down. Still waited a whole hour an a half before we got even our soup. Forgot our salads. No sushi available at all during lunch hour. They use nothing but garlic butter for it all. Food had no flavor. When the cook tried doing the onion volcano, it popped and liquid from it landed on my face. Forgot my hibachi shrimp. They dont serve spicy mayo with teriyaki sauce. They give u siracha. Overall, ur better off going to fresno's Edo-Ya.

I never leave reviews, but as a truck driver who loves finding places for sushi around the country, this was my first and last time here. In short, the service sucked, and it seemed like everyone including the manager on duty was uncoordinated and didn't know their own product. The only thing good was the taste and texture of the sushi. The sushi chef also needs to know how important the rice ratio and for it to not fall apart is. That's more than I even wanted to waste time leaving a review about...good luck with this place.

First I didn't get another photos or names so you'll just have to take my word for it. The staff here is great ! From the moment we first stepped in the door we where treated with great customer service from every staff member. The guy at the grill was great another couple had kids at the table with us and he made sure to interact with them which he definatly didn't have to do. The food was amazing the chicken was cooked to perfection it didn't even need the dipping sauce! The shrimp though really stole the show! We will be back probably a few times if it stays the same.

Long wait time was quoted 35 minutes and ended up waiting just about 2 hrs . Restaurant was pretty warm inside air conditioning must have not been working well made it a little uncomfortable. The Food and service was delicious our cook was amazing and made it special for my sons birthday dinner .

I loved this one so much I decided to go to the one in Long Beach where we live. The one in Long Beach was absolutely horrible, and they made us feel as though we were not welcome, so we will never return to that one again. The receptionist said they do not hand out business cards, she did not know the number to the restaurant, and informed us there was no one there who could give her the number to the restaurant.

Had dinner here tonight with the wife and kids. First off, the restaurant has a well designed layout it's nicely decorated. Our waiter and cook were polite friendly and very sociable. It was a welcoming and friendly atmosphere, and the food and drinks were great. A little pricey but well worth it.
