Casual spot for traditional Asian eats & specialty sushi rolls with an all-you-can-eat option.
We visited this place about 5 years ago, and we enjoyed the teppanyaki table very much along with the food and service. As a result, we decided to visit again in November for a relatives birthday and were very disappointed.
To begin with, when reserving the table there was a misunderstanding and we were not seated at the teppanyaki table as we wanted and were seated at a regular booth. The issue was that there was about 12 people in our party and we barely fit at the table even with additional chairs placed on the sides.
The rest of the night kept getting worse and worse, from attitude from our waitress to mediocre food, it didn't seem like the same place we visited before at all. Our cutlery was dirty when it arrived and when we asked for replacements the waitress hesitantly took the dirty forks and finally returned around 10 minutes later only to have grabbed the forks from the empty table beside us. Also, despite it being a Saturday evening, the restaurant was not as busy but the waiters took forever to serve us and provide us with our food and many of the fish were unavailable impacting the number of sushi choices you could pick from or any of the lobster rolls. Just seemed a but odd to make half of your menu unavailable on a weekend night when your primary cuisine is seafood.
I wouldn't recommend this restaurant for special occasions, maybe for an occasional outing but I wouldn't bet on them having all their sushi options or even good service.

We went to Rip Tide Sushi for a networking event and we left it thoroughly impressed.
The sushi at Rip Tide is undeniably delicious, with each roll bursting with flavor and expertly crafted. Whether it was the classic favorites or the chef's special creations, every bite was a culinary delight.
What truly stood out, however, was the impeccable service provided by the staff. Despite the bustling atmosphere of a networking event, they remained attentive and accommodating, ensuring that everyone's needs were met with a smile.
Their friendly demeanor and willingness to go above and beyond made the networking experience even more enjoyable. Whether it was refilling drinks or offering recommendations from the menu, the staff at Rip Tide Sushi truly made us feel like valued guests.
Overall, our experience at Rip Tide Sushi exceeded all expectations. Delicious food combined with exceptional service made for an evening that was both enjoyable and productive. We'll definitely be back for more yummy sushi and friendly faces.

Always a great place to eat!!
It can be a bit loud at times, but there is a bar, a sushi bar and the traditional tepenyaki style dinner tables for a fun and exciting experience while dining.
The volume could very well just be a sign of my aging, but there is never a dull moment! My future wife and I frequent this location and it's always been great food and wonderful hospitality at all times!

I gave this place 5 stars for the wonderful waiter we had who was so nice, helpful, & apologetic.
However, I wish more attentiveness was taken into account for our party in which we were seated next to a large & loud celebrating group.
*Our family could not communicate well during our entire meal due to hard of hearing from the surrounding parties.
I had elderly grandparents with us for my son's birthday.
The other minor complaint is that our food took a very long time more so than usual to come to us and we waited so long that it got to a moment where we tried to cancel last sushi roll order.
The wait time for food was unacceptable with senior citizens in our family's party.

This is my favorite spot for sushi in SoCal! Rigo plates the rolls so beautifully. The sushi is always fresh and tasty! I’ve never been disappointed with any of the rolls. Rigo has the best recommendations. I would definitely recommend stopping by for a roll or two!

Bad, and we won’t be going back especially now that we’ve found Ichibiri.
$4.50 extra for fried rice
Footrests are too high on high-top chairs.
My wife complained that the food was inedibly salty.
My chicken teriyaki (wife got sushi) took way too long to prepare.
Plus, there are the escalators at Kaleidoscope that never work.

Update 2024.11.09
Oh my goodness, 2 hr wait just to get salad and soup from teppin after waiting 1 hr to order. And then 2 1/2 hr to get our food. There were children that were literally crying b/c they were hungry.

The sushi is excellent here so I definitely recommend trying their unique rolls. The teppan dishes were ok. Flavored well but slightly over cooked and very onion forward. The biggest issue we had was there is zero air conditioning in the whole restaurant with tons of grills right in the dining area making it borderline unbearable to eat.

I hope ownership is reading the latest reviews. This place is in need of new management. The quality of food and attention detail has gone down over time.
Simple things like cutting the skin of the zucchini, cutting it into small pieces, and cooking mushrooms correctly shouldn't have to pointed out to you.
Refilling the Ginger and Mustard sauce without splattering on the table when people are eating CANNOT happen.
Is your air-condition broken? If this is the case, it's needs to be fixed right away.
Also, you need to remodel to whole restaurant.
If you don't address these issues you will go out of business.
Hope this helps you.

Very hot in the restaurant. They don’t have A/C. Very old and musty in there. Desperately need a remodel. Food made me sick, only ate the lettuce wraps. Service is excellent though!!
Please fix your A/C, honestly was going to pass out from heat stroke.

Went in today to celebrate my daughters birthday turned in to a hell the food was good servers were good how ever no AC !!! Mind you it’s 88 degrees outside plus there tables are hot! We were all sweating we came out to have a good time enjoy our time instead we were all hot not having a good time what’s so ever !!! We talked to the manager about how it needs to be fixed the AC it completely ruins the experience he said you get used to it that he’s been there 11 years and yea it’s so hot he looses 2lb a day because of it and that maybe we should visit in the winter ! Are you serious ?! I really don’t know how your a manager for 11 years with your sassy attitude! I will never ever come back and i will make sure to tell all my family friends and neighbors to save there money go to Benihana where the AC works ! Mind you our bill was over $300 he should be more considerate with baby’s being there and kids who heat up way faster ! Way to ruin a birthday

This Teppanyaki house was so fun! There is an aquarium as you walk in the restaurant, and the space is Massive! There are booths, sushi bar, and teppanyaki tables! The food was fresh, flavorful, and fantastic! The service was a little slow, but that is expected of this kind of place.
Our server deserves to be noted. The man who made our meal was Mario, and he wears a Spongebob hat. Me and my parents came in around 5:30pm expecting a relatively normal experience, but we knew we were in for it when he arrived :). He was hilarious, talkative, helpful, and kind. He cracked jokes and even told us some notes about food! An absolutely fantastic chef, everything was perfectly seasoned and really a knowledgable chef. My parents and I had a really fun time because of him. I hope he gets well paid for what he does, he deserves it!!!
Sincerely, Amanda (the white people seasoning people)

They have a good happy hour. However, they typically take about an hour to serve your food, so go early. Furthermore, do not expect good service, as you will be disappointed. I like going here, but I only go for the happy hour prices and tasty sushi. I manage my exceptions because everything else is pretty bad.

Due to some eccentricities in our schedule, boyfriend and I value restaurants with late-night hours. We frequent this restaurant. We checked online and Riptide is posted as open til 11pm. Got there last night 3/16/24 at 1034 pm and was greeted by a rude, condescending young "man" who informed us that the kitchen had closed 4 min prior. He was rolling his eyes and very nasty, obviously wanting to get rid of us and go home. We asked about the hours posted and he simply repeated himself and added snidely "sorry, that's how restaurants work." We left and went to Cheesecake Factory (who also closed at 11) and were greeted warmly. We ordered quickly, asked nothing extra from our server, quietly enjoyed our food, tipped well and left. BECAUSE THAT'S HOW RESTAURANTS WORK.
I doubt Riptide is training their staff in customer service and might not even be invested enough to read their reviews if last night was an indication.
It's too bad really. The food is lovely and fresh but we are never going back. They need to change their hours posted online and train their rude, ignorant staff in customer service and decorum--even if the answer is "no" there's a way to say it. Because that also is how restaurants work.

First time here with a total party of 10! Could not even hear ourselves speak!! Don't need the music; now for the food; I had the shrimp, very good; husband had the filet stack, very good. What we would do differently next visit is ask the "chef" to cut way back on the butter they use on the teppan grill in the veggies and shrimp and the filet stack the same cut way back on the "sauce" it was tasty but did cover up the filet. Soup and salad useless. Thats our personal tastes. Service was very good. Only 4 stars as there is always room for improvment.

We had tried this place several years back. The food was average at best. The service was horrible. So we waited a long time to try it again. We get here early for our reservation. We wait over 10 min to check in while 3 people are at the front helping one couple. We check in and 20 minutes past our reservation time they are telling us 10 more minutes at least. Why bother with reservations. I have little hope. This will be our last trip here. The chef and server however were great.

Showed up around 830. 2 of us for teppan. Took 10 minutes to get a table. Once seated, we waited about 15 minutes for anybody to come take our order it get us drinks. I think they were waiting for more people to join us and no one did. Food was great, staff was nice, chef was good. Nice restaurant overall. Always busy. Would avoid going during prime times or will be a long wait. I wish they took reservations.

As everyone has said, the lack of airflow in this restaurant is beyond uncomfortable. I stopped coming here years ago after a hot shrimp was flung at me and ended up causing a bad burn on my neck. That coupled with the way they make you sit & wait for way too long even if you have a reservation PLUS the heat? It's just a miserable experience. BUT my daughter really wanted Hibachi, so we braved it out.
We managed to turn a nearby fan on to us for the majority of our visit, but being seated in the very back of the restaurant with zero flow, it barely did anything.
Here's my biggest annoyance: the working conditions for the servers and hibachi chefs can't possibly be legal. Tonight, they were down to only 3 chefs, so I understand the wait. Our chef was so nice, and he did an AMAZING job on the cook of everything. I handed him a $40 tip on the spot. The guy was getting zero breaks, having to go from table to table to work fireside & still was able to turn out a great meal. Ridiculous for any establishment to do this to an employee.
Our server (I wish I remembered her name, she deserves SO MUCH BETTER!) was on it after I made it clear I was gonna need constant water (I requested a pitcher so she wouldn't be inconvenienced, but they didn't have any extras, no surprise there)- she came to refill my water consistently with no complaint or attitude. Just kindness. She, too, got an extra tip from me that I made sure she knew was ONLY FOR HER.
Riptide? DO BETTER! How are you still open with the working conditions you have your employees under? How are you not ridiculously embarrassed? And WHY TF do you not BLAST the air conditioning!? After all these years and all these complaints? It's baffling.

Horrible. First time visiting this restaurant and immediately when you walk in the bench you wait to be seated is extremely ripped. Then you walk in the restaurant and it has this dark decor, dingy carpet and 90s booths. This place has definitely not been updated since it's been open. The server was not knowledgeable about the menu. The food.... simply horrible. Why would anyone put cheese on muscles? Another sushi roll was globbed with cheese. It overall just was not appetizing. The only thing I liked was the seaweed salad. The entire restaurant experience is a 1/10 on all levels. Would not recommend.

There has been a combination of unfortunate events leading to a very disappointing experience. The service was very slow. Order was wrong. Beer was warm. The desert was misleading and gross. The desert (ice cream) was served 5 minutes before the silverware to eat it. Ice cream cream soup. Yuck.

Service was horrible! I haven't been there for a couple of years until last weekend... I won't be going back. Started with shrimp and that was ok. Ordered 2 rolls and they were ok. The tempanyaki short ribs were chewy and tasted and smelled like the meat was bad. The crepes we had ordered for desert were super rubbery and looked like thick flour tortillas and by the time it got to our table the ice cream was almost completely melted like soup. This is by far the worst experience I have ever had at this location and for $190.00 and horrible service I will not be returning. We were there 3 hours and most of the time waiting on the server for food or drink refills. We ended up asking other servers to assist.

Our reservation is 8:30 PM on Sunday night 3-26-2023. We are seated with 2 other couples. Restaurant is not crowded by any means. Waiter took drink orders at 8:45 PM. Waiter took food order returned @ 8:55 PM as they were out of the “Volcano”. 2 people had to reorder. Waiter came back @ 9:10 as they were out of the Korean Ribs and Scallops. 3 people had to reorder. 9;25 PM chef arrives and begins to cook our meals. It’s almost 10:00 PM by the time all the cooking was complete. Food was very good! Service was ok . The excuse for being out of so many of the items on the menu was very disappointing and the amount of time everything took was terrible. Would I go back? Probably not.

Came here after getting turned away from a big chain hibachi restaurant that couldn’t honor our reservation. I was so lucky to find this place and grateful they were able to seat us pretty quickly. The service was great— our kind waitress cracked a few jokes with us and our teppanyaki chef was a lot of fun. The portions are generous and the food was delicious. The place is very clean and spacious. We’ll definitely be returning.

As newcomers we did not feel welcomed at all. There was no sizing portions or clear description on the menu. Being a family of four we were combined with another family and as a result they mixed up our order and didn’t get what we asked for. We were given the fried rice from the other family’s portion and we informed the chef. For some reason after that we were treated with hostility from the chef who stopped his show. In addition, we ordered udon noodles and after asking for it 2-3 times we received it after finishing our meal and it was from the kitchen and not on the grill. I was so excited to come to Riptide with my family and left it still feeling hungry.

Made a reservation for the teppanyaki tables and still had to wait about 30 minutes to be seated, not sure if this was the norm but it was worth the wait (since we weren't in a rush). The food was great and not over salty like other teppan grill spots, but they did run out of filet mignon which more than half our table ordered, so they had to use NY steak instead. Lots of options and variety on the teppan Menu and came home with enough leftovers to feed us the next day, though! We'll be back to try again soon. Hopefully to try the filet this time ;)

I'd like to preface by saying that I, along with my family have been repeat customers at Riptide for years and years. This review is completely honest and holistically weighed.
The food is consistently great. The sushi is fresh, the place is nice and lively and the cocktails are exactly as advertised.
The issue comes down to management. This is probably the most poorly managed restaurant I have been too. This is a recent issue though, as it never was like this before. We were incredibly disappointed on our first occurrence (Sept. '22) We had a 6:45 reservation, seated at 8, and ate by 9. That alone is unacceptable. We decided to give it another try a few weeks later to see if anything had improved. It did not. The reason for this review is due to our experience on Friday (Jan 13th). We had a 7:30 reservation, were seated at 8:30, but did not eat a SINGLE THING until 10. We weren't even served. The table, did not have a Teppanyaki Chef, and when he did arrive, he messed up a member of our parties order rendering her meal inedible. By the time we finished eating it was 10:45. We couldn't wait to leave. Additionally, management had promised to compensate our first two rounds of drinks, yet the bill didn't reflect it.
Sadly, until Riptide immediately changes management or gets it together, we will not be returning. There are better Teppan options out there where you'll finish dinner before you even sit down at Riptide.
Food, 4/10
Service, 1/10
Honesty 1/10
Cleanliness (restaurant) 7/10
Cleanliness (restrooms) 1/10
P.S.I have been coming to this restaurant personally since 2013. For the price they charge, it would be nice to be seated and served at an appropriate time. I hope management sees this review and takes it seriously. The other family at our table (separate from my own) almost got up and left. Please fix this so we can bring our families back and not be disappointed with waiting almost two hours for service.

Boring, Sad, and Depressing 😆. Don't come here for happy hour is you're having a bad day, it'll just get worse. Drinks are watered down for HH 😆. Food takes for ever, and in a lonely, undesired atmosphere, you'll feel like your on a deserted island. Luckily, I was with my guy, so he made it nice. However, if I came here with my gf's or coworkers, we'd have a bad memory to talk about forever. Definitely wouldn't recommend. Sad bcs I really like the Kaleidescope Mall. Wish it was more popular. However, Riptide's ambiance and service could be contributing to the mass Kaleidexodus 😬

Just avoid this place, the fun teppanyaki experience is not worth the pain of eating here.
I have a lot of empathy for wait staff and hosts. Different situations come up and sometimes there are periods of unavailability or extended waits. I'm willing to forgive most any mistakes or issues with just some light communication. But here you will be misled at best and lied to at worst.
For our case we had a reservation for our party and we were told that the table would be cleared up shortly. We proceeded to wait for around 15 minutes before checking in again. We were told that our table was finished and just needs to be cleared. This back and forth goes on for an hour past our reservation. Each time the staff making it seem like we were going to be seated in the next 5 minutes. And we should have just walked out after about 30 minutes. But when we finally had enough after the hour we started to leave when we were flagged down and given a table. Our food then did not proceed to start getting cooked for almost 30 more minutes, by which time it's 9 and there is now almost nobody in the restaurant. Our food is cooked in front of us, we have an ok time with the sourness and hunger of the past 2 hours but still one person in our party didn't get the food they ordered from the kitchen. By the time the last dish arrives everything is getting cleaned up with the restaurant closing when the sickness starts to kick in. 4 of our party got some sort of food sickness. So to sum it all up, avoid at all costs. This place is ridiculous.
To note: the meal that didn't arrive till the end did get comped but still this gets this 1star review because it's pretty much my worst restaurant experience to date, esp for being $30 to $50 a person.

After movie quick bite about 8:30 pm on a Wednesday. Not real busy walked up to the bar to order a drink. No bartender. Not acknowledged, so walked over to sushi bar to check out menu still Noone to order a drink from. Sushi guy called someone over twice, after getting my wine, sushi guy made my order promptly. But I had nothing to eat with so then I had to ask for utensils, wine guy brought me one fork, but no napkin. So then had to ask busboy for a napkin. I would understand the poor service if they were busy or if it was at dinnertime or a weekend, but the lack of several steps, on a slow night with ample employees visible, my 1st & last time to this restaurant, service was very poor

Always a good time at RIPTIDE. Food prep entertainment is always fun. Prices not bad considering the fun involved not only at your cook station but the one next to you. A MUST DINNER evening out with friends.

My wife and I had a reservation for our Anniversary @ 5 PM (we were the first ones at the door right when they opened up). We were made to wait for 20 minutes while everyone else who arrived after us was seated. There were several other couples sat together, but then they sat us with 6 kids at a Teppan Table (on the very edge). We weren’t treated to the Show and we were ignored by the chef for any fun that was to be had, plus the kids all got hamburgers which detracted from the entire experience. It was also very hot in the restaurant (before the table even got started) & the staff refused to close the open door drafting heat towards us because “the manager probably won’t let us close it”. The staff was inattentive & all we could taste in the food was a TON OF BUTTER! It was a Very Poor Experience all around. My wife was sad and very upset that we couldn’t get anything enjoyable out of this Anniversary.

Had a reservation at 530pm, was seated around 545pm. We didn't eat until 650pm! To our understanding they were short staffed but that's still a long time to wait.
Still giving them 5 stars because the food was so damn good and the chef was engaging and apologized for the wait. The chef saved the day.

I live in Los Angeles and I make the drive couple times a month. Their Galaxy Roll.. Spicy Tostadas..Fresh Sashimi is really good. Once again they hit it out the park. Highly recommend this place. Today the Sashimi Salmon was really really good and buttery.. Highly recommend this place again

The food was very good. The service had some issues. But since when are you charged for ice in a alcoholic drink? My wife ordered a double Jameson on the rocks. When the bill came we were charged for the ice. Really!! Never again..

We were make reservation when we arrived there and they took my cellphone number and they said we will call you when is your turn,
We left and in cold night,(me my wife and 2 little kids)
Walking around the mall,
After an hour we came back and asked them when will be our turn, the reservation guy said we called you guys several time and you guys did not answer and it was totally lie , because he even could not find my number and they checked their phone and there was no call,
Even i showed him and the lady in resorption my cellphone and i said there is no missed call,
At the end they said you guys should an other 30 min or an hour to be your turn.
No bodys feel sorry .
My kids was hungry and they like riptide just because of chief cooking in front of us and for them its like fun.
I dont recommend this place for bad service.

Fun spot, great family dinner-and-a-show place. Their menu had ALOT of options and the food was not that great, especially at the price... I was looking for good habachi, I was disappointed.
If you are looking for good family fun outing, you found the right spot.

We have been coming here for years. This is the last time. Horrible. After being seated we
waited over 35 minutes for the chef. Then everything was cooked so slowly that by the time the main entree came everything else was ice cold. I was at the end of the table got half a serving of rice and no vegetables.. (then got the vegetables at the end of the meal). My husband got half a serving of vegetables. 2 separate parties totaling 12 people. 1 hour and 45 minutes for dinner. No thanks. I was told the rice was over cooked anyway.

Teppanyaki was really good and Johnny cooked a perfect meal, made good conversation, and kept the party entertained. If I could rate his service individually it would be 10/10. Waiter staff was a little on the slow side but it was a busy Friday night. I also enjoyed some of their signature rolls and sushi. All in all a pleasant and delicious evening.

Giving 2 stars because the food was okay but 3 stars less because of the chef… don’t know his name but I ordered the fried rice with filet mignon and he gave it to everybody that was not in my party and he skipped me even tho I practically screamed at him and handed him my plate saying that I wanted and I was the closest one to him and… I got charged $30 for it, their solution was take out the ‘fried rice” that was $4 so worst experience ever, not coming back neverrrrrr.

Website and voice-mail says they are open right now (3pm on a Saturday) but the place is closed. Visiting from out of town and heard this place was the best, unfortunately won't be able to try it to tell. Sad. Please update your hours online.

It was a fun dining experience. Its not fancy but it is fun. Everyone seemed to have a great time, and the drinks were enjoyable. The food was plenty good, but by no means the best. I think it's very good for its price point.

Got there and understood that we had a bit of a wait but they were majorly understaffed. The wait was approx. 2 hours and after being seated there was an additional HOUR of waiting for someone to come serve us. We ordered sushi as we were waiting and had to ask about it 3 times because they kept "forgetting". We ordered cokes and they were all flat. The food was not good and there was no winning tonight. Oh well.

My roommate and I dined here last weekend and we had an amazing time! Ordered salmon sashimi and a spider roll, along with 3 cocktails. The sashimi was amazing!!! So fresh and well-presented. definitely looking forward to coming back!

We did the Teppan, it was GREAT. It was around $40 a person and well worth it. The dinner and a show was great. Every table was really enjoying their time, the chefs really brought a lot of personality to the whole thing. Honestly great time and cannot wait for brunch at this place next time I'm wanting to do brunch.

Pretty standard for a Teppan place. Good quality, tasty food, but nothing special to differentiate it from competitors.

After a year of being lockdown, it felt like a whole new experience at Riptide. People were out and everyone were having fun and enjoying their meals. My friend and I ate at the bar where Matt, the bartender, took good care of us. Matt has to be one of my favorite bartenders. The drinks and food were so good! I can’t wait to return again.

We have eaten in most of the Sushi restaurants in South Orange County and this significantly the best. Multi flavors in every roll, not over stuffed with rice and the rice that is there melts in your mouth. Try the Toronado and the Kings roll and anything else that sounds good. You will want to be back again the next day to try some others and will be bringing your favorite friends. You will be a hit.
