Overall quality isn’t there and the food is not actually crave able by an account but the vibes are great. Wouldn’t go back. Sketchy valet situation, hopefully I didn’t get a ticket like another reviewer had. The toro dish is not fooling anybody, it’s not actually toro. 👎🏻 And the best thing on the menu was the California roll which is kind of hard to mess up.

Had such an amazing time! Connor and the server he was training were so sweet. They made our visit and my boyfriends bday so special. The food was amazing! The entire experience from the door guy to the servers and bussers were so sweet. I can’t wait to come back and bring my friends! My only complaint is the drinks took so long and im a bartender. The drinks were great though.

Through a tunnel, you get to this Japanese restaurant. Nestled below street level, the space features a stunning aquarium ceiling, creating a mesmerizing underwater vibe.

The menu is a creative mix of modern Japanese-inspired dishes, with highlights like the sushi platters, miso black cod, and robata skewers.

The craft cocktails are equally impressive, expertly paired with the food. The live music and intimate atmosphere elevate the experience, making it ideal for a date night.

The blue light through the fish tank makes it a special location.

Food was amazing. The drinks were amazing especially the Keri and the green tea . The desert Bread pudding was amazing.
The service was not. We were not welcomed from the entrance person was very cold . If the manager or owner of the restaurant is reading this : to be exact we were a party of 6 on 12/7 at 8:46 pm . From entrance lady that walked us to our seat was very cold like she was not happy with us at all. The waiter was either over stretched or where they seated us was not getting enough attention. I may come back with my husband here once so he can taste the food but that is about it

This restaurant is ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL. Their design with the water features and multi level areas to eat is a really cool concept.

The service was great ! (Although they did forget our steak, they did end up comping it for us which was nice!)

Lots of options to choose from for food, all very fresh and authentic.

Will definitely be back ! (:

My friends and I came here for dinner in September. We used their valet service. Everything was smooth until I got a notice in the mail saying I received a parking ticket. When I got my car from valet at the end of the night there was no ticket on my dashboard. The person threw it away and didn’t notify me. I contacted the restaurant and they said they used a 3rd party so I would need to get a hold of them to rectify the matter. I contacted them through email and by phone and nothing is done. Now I’m stuck with a $186 parking ticket which I feel the testy should take care of since they use the company. Do not go here. They do not take care of you.

I went to Mrs. Fish for the first time this past Saturday for a friend’s birthday after hearing great things about this place for years. We had the pleasure of being greeted by Jeremy at the door and served by Jiro at the whiskey bar before being seated. These guys were top-notch! From their warm welcomes to expert drink recommendations, everything was excellent. Jiro's attention to detail, speed, and creativity behind the bar made for an unforgettable experience. He truly knows how to elevate the atmosphere and make a mean drink! We enjoyed our food and he even ended up running some of our food to us. I highly recommend this spot and will definitely be back. DJ Promoter was a vibe too!

I was on my way to another restaurant when the stunning neon lights of Mrs. Fish caught my eye and lured me inside. Although I didn’t get a chance to sample any food or drinks during this visit, I couldn’t resist exploring the restaurant. The ambiance is fantastic, featuring a massive aquarium that adds a unique touch, and the vibe is elevated with live DJs!

I’m already looking forward to my next visit to experience the menu. If you find yourself in Los Angeles, I highly recommend stopping by Mrs. Fish to soak in the atmosphere and enjoy what they have to offer!

The ambiance is amazing and my husband and I were able to be seated earlier than our reservation which was good. Service was pretty good but they did take a while to get some of the plates out. I didn’t order much but the food
I did order was alright. I had higher expectations for their ramen and their sushi. My husband being a fan of ramen didn’t like it either. I liked their pickled veggies a lot though and the sorbet dessert was decent (not their mango sorbet though, that one was kinda off?). Worth a try but probably won’t be itching to come back.

Beautiful restaurant and the food was great.the portions are big. Recommend getting the Yuki cocktail. This was delicious. You don't need a reservation for a party of 2 or 3, but I highly recommend you get one. Open sitting makes it difficult to find seating.
And do valet parking.

Just recently went here for the second time with my husband for date night before our concert. They offered a pre-fixie menu which I usually like to dabble in, but I decided to just choose items I really wanted to try. For our appetizers, we had the shishito peppers, salmon carpaccio, yellowtail serrano, and seared toro roll. Everything was delicious. For our drinks, we had the Onotano Amasa and the non-alcoholic Emoji Cooler. Both drinks were refreshing. For our entrees, we ordered the uni pasta, the ribeye, and the miso black cod. We really enjoyed the miso and ribeye - they were cooked to perfection. The uni pasta has some nice lobster pieces in it, but I feel like I've had better uni pasta where you can taste the uni more. We definitely enjoyed the white chocolate bread pudding with fresh fruit. I did ask for no caramel add in since I'm sensitive to sweets. Best bread pudding I e had, thus far! We loved the aesthetics. It was mesmerizing to watch the fish. Everything was clean and modern. Our service was great from Ashton. There's valet parking available for $14. Overall, we had such a great date night experience.

The biggest issue I had was the salmon carpaccio and I wanted to throw up at the end of the meal. I still do not feel well as I'm writing this review.

The fish was not fresh. It just smelled fishy as we ate it and I should've just left at that moment. Fresh fish does NOT smell. I did make the staff aware and told them it was not a big deal because I honestly wanted to believe that we were at an upscale restaurant and the quality of food would be good but as more time passed, my stomach did not feel well. I was also on a date so I did not want to throw up in the middle of it. Maybe it was just this batch of fish, but there's definitely no mistake because fresh fish is not supposed to smell fishy especially after seasoning it.

Second issue was that I couldn't even finish my short rib because it was so tough and dry in the center. First bites were good and the mashed potato was good but that's about it. Ofc it's a fish restaurant but we got their happy hour prefixed set menu for $55 per person so we were limited on either cod, short rib or another dish as entrees.

Yuzu cheesecake was okay though and the black cod too but the vegetables served under the cod had wasabi notes that we were not fond of.

Ambiance was okay. The novelty of the big fish tank fades away quickly once you get your food and the food ultimately was sub par for the price you're paying.

For $120 for two people, I would've been much happier eating elsewhere bc this place is overrated.

The decor and concept of the restaurant are appealing, but I won’t be returning for sushi.

I’ve visited several sushi restaurants across various price ranges, and I had high expectations based on a friend's recommendation.

I dined here with a group of friends for a birthday celebration and was informed that we needed to order family-style due to our group size. This typically implies sharing a set menu, but we found that the prices were actually per person. Clearer communication on this would have been helpful.

If it was indeed priced per person, I would have expected each of us to receive a plate of each dish rather than sharing.

We got edamame and green beans for starters. They were good and flavorful.
Salmon Carparcio was pretty good, and I would eat that again.
The seaweed salad had vibrant colors but lacked seasoning and was missing salt.

Shishito peppers- they're a bit bland and needs improvement.
Vegetable fried rice - it was tasty, but it was also moist. Our group was a bit confused since we read fried rice. It reminded us more of a risotto.
The chicken karrage was good. The yuzu tartar was delicious.
The best thing they had put out is the tuna crispy rice. I can eat more of that.

The rolls were disappointing. I just feel that they're weren't out of the ordinary.
Out of all the rolls given to us, the best one was spicy tuna roll.
The Golden Yuzu was beautiful with the gold flakes on top, but it did not suit my taste.

The menu included salmon and tuna nigiri. The rice was overally acidic and fish itself didn't seem fresh.

Dessert - It was chef's choice. We got a yuzu cheesecake and a bread pudding topped with ice cream. Both were 6/10 for me. A few of my friends liked the cheesecake, but the cheesecake was my least favorite

Presentation - I think the presentation/plating of the food was okay. Nothing too special. I just think for the name of the restaurant I was expecting more zing and pizzazz.

On a positive note, the drinks were well-crafted and balanced. The Tsuma I ordered was particularly impressive. Service was satisfactory overall, with attentive waitstaff and efficient plate clearing. However, there was a noticeable delay between dishes and at dessert.

I did not feel like I had to chase down someone for more water. The waiters were constantly picking up plates and cleaning in between. The front Host at the door was great. The waitress was always prompt and kind.

Parking - The restaurant recommended the valet parking. $14, which is okay. The service I got from the valet people was mediocre. The valet staff didn’t greet us properly, and one valet even caused damage to a valet sign while returning a car, showing a lack of professionalism.
One of the valet guys brought my friend's car back by making a wide U-turn and actually hit one of the valet signs. Right in front of us!! We were stunned and was vocal about it. We were very annoyed about How the driver was trying to play it off. He said it was all good. NOT GOOD AT ALL. He did Not even apologize for it or even act sorry. Ridiculous.

I would park across the street next time for $17.

Don’t get the sushi. Two pieces was enough to make my husband almost throw up in the restaurant. One piece gave me sharp stomach pains. They say they get their fish fresh everyday… must be getting the cheapest stuff.

The cooked food was pretty average but at least it won’t make you sick like their sushi will.

If you’re looking for a unique dining and nightlife experience in downtown LA, Mrs. Fish is the place to be! Hidden beneath the Pershing Square Building, this spot offers a chic, modern ambiance with a touch of Japanese flair. The massive aquarium suspended from the ceiling is a stunning focal point that sets the tone for a memorable evening.

The food is fantastic—fresh sushi, creative sashimi, and traditional Japanese dishes with a modern twist. Every bite was flavorful and beautifully presented. The cocktail menu is just as impressive, with drinks that are both visually appealing and perfectly balanced in flavor.

Here is a spot that some of you may like if you're in to japanese cuisine. It's situated in downtown in one of the really cool old buildings, you need to take the stairs but I was with my wife on a wheelchair so they escorted us up with the elevator (that was nice of them). The restaurant looks modern and has aquariums that are suspended over some of the tables, and the decorations is art and anime inspired. We sat at a table near the hostess and dj, which was also next to a very noisy table of 10-12. One lady in particular laughed hysterically and every sillable that was pronounced in the 45 min we were there for my wife's birthday. The only time she stopped laughing was when she went to the bathroom. I say this because if there is a dress code, there needs to be a "decibel code" as well. We got out as fast as we could because it was annoying. I thought the food was pretty good. I would have liked to try the Miso Cod, but it was left out of my order, and we waited too long to have it made, so we skipped it. Overall, it was good but with some room for improvement.

The culinary experience at Mrs. Fish is pretty underwhelming with expensive prices for subpar, limited options (relative to similar restaurants in Los Angeles). The food is not bad at all, but it does not stand out in any positive way. The taste or preparation is not unique, and neither is the menu.

The restaurant's decor and atmosphere ranges between okay and nice, but it's also not that concise conceptually and it ultimately doesn't really tilt the scale. The service was solid.

I expected more.

Hi my name is tigran and here is my very very honest review.. And I’m writing this interview as my first review ever for food. Service was not meant to any expectations that I had set for this place. I was very disappointed in their lack of organization skills and staffs failure to address my issues. Sushi was not bad, but for what I expected terrible. Again, their options are very limited and failed to give me any hope when ordering their dishes. Toro was a scam, and skewers felt dry with no seasoning. I requested multiple times for a table change, as it was too small and did not meet our requirements for the amount of food we ordered. They declined, and service for each item and a Diet Coke toke more than 15 minutes. My order didn’t get to me till 11:00, keep in mind I ordered at 10 pm. Very disappointed in this place, as I wasted an hour of my time for the most disappointing meal I’ve had in a while. DONT COME HERE, BIG MISTAKE!

It’s one of the best dinners I had in DTLA. The vibe is very romantic. We dined under live aquarium and very nice service. Every item was extremely good, except for the skewers - they’re just ok. The sushi is premium. Uni is fresh (MP price around $18). Main courses are the best of the best. Black cod melts in the mouth. The wagyu steak is super tender. These two dishes alone made our night! Restroom was very clean like 4-5 stars hotel. Totally impressed!

2nd time visiting Mrs. Fish: first visit was 5/5. Second visit 3/5.

Atmosphere in the restaurant is so fun and unique - definitely recommend for the vibes. Quality of sushi is okay pretty middle level. The end taste of the fish dishes I had, had frozen qualities and tasted like lower tier fish. I got the chika mocktail drink and it was like 2000% sweet and I had to add a lot of sparkling water to make it drinkable.

In their set menu item their cabbage 🥬 used to be incredible. We had it about 6 months ago and we couldn't stop talking about the cabbage. Just phenomenal. Previously we had a female server who wore a mask and had a long ponytail and she was the bomb - one of the best servers and we had such a great time.

This time it was a completely different experience. Cabbage was undercooked (haha) and it felt like a completely different dish. Previous cabbage tasted like it was meat and so flavorful... And when we told the our server he was like okayyyyy....?... And it was awkward... He did ask if we wanted it exchanged but the interaction made it odd we just said it's ok.

In the photos you can see the big big difference between the previous cabbage and the cabbage this time.

It was a fun experience - 2 set menu, 3 cocktails, around $240-280 with tip. Don't think it's worth it. There's far better restaurants around that just hits so hard for the amount you pay here. I would recommend just sticking to small bites/rolls and going for the vibes.

It's been fun Mrs. Fish ✌️

Live fish tank at the top so you can see them while eating, which I felt a little bad about but a neat ambiance nonetheless. Our server was attentive and friendly! Their drinks were sooooooo good - we each had, at least, two. Their food was also scrumptious. Our favorite was the crispy tuna rice and the pork belly ramen to top it off. There was a lot of hype coming here, so I think that’s why I was a little disappointed.

The aquarium is small and not everyone can see it. I was facing the wall and ended up switching with my date towards the end to see more of the atmosphere. The table for 2 was small and very close to the tables next to it.

I thought the sushi was average.

We went here for my wife’s birthday. We’ve been wanting to go here for YEARS! We go to a lot of different sushi restaurants, and this one had fish that we’ve NEVER seen, heard of, let alone eaten.

Like Barracuda, Sea Bream, and Golden Eye Snapper. AND the yellow tail was unlike ANY we’ve ever had, because it was from Japan, we said it at the same time!

The staff were extremely friendly, helpful, informed and genuine. None of the pretentiousness that comes with a restaurant of this caliber.

This place was a nice experience, I went on a Tuesday night they had live music 🎶 our waiters were very nice and attentive. We had sushi 🍣 it was delicious. We had a roll called Double Tuna Roll ( not on the menu ) it’s out of this world. Not to mention the beautiful fish tank they have in the Ceiling.

This experience was so disappointing and made me a little sad. We decided to come for a belated Valentine’s Day and I can’t recommend any part of the experience.

It’s very loud and the decor is okay but nothing amazing. They seem understaffed and overwhelmed which doesn’t help the cleanliness or the vibe. We saw many frenzied staff and several dishes and glasses break while we ate.
We were seated and then two other tables were seated a few minutes after us. I noticed that the waitstaff had provided little tables for your purse at the other tables but not for me which doesn’t make you feel good to start, so my things sat on the floor. Even though we ordered way ahead of the other tables our drinks and food took forever to come (after the later tables) and when it would arrive it was cold or room temp at best. None of the food or drinks were spectacular or worth the price. The fried rice was mushy and gross. The only thing we really enjoyed was the miso cod it was delicious but not enough to go back for. We barely saw our waiter and when we did it felt like he didn’t even see us.
They don’t seem ready for the amount of business they have and they do not provide a good experience for the price and expectations.

Went here for a special occasion celebration, and all I can say is at least the decor is nice. This place is a cement slab so they needed to have the walls covered up. Aquarium is smaller in person and only shortly by the entrance above. Entrance door leading downstairs is broken.

The main issue now is THREE TIMES I had notified my server Brian of a salmon allergy and 3 times he had brought salmon out to me which had to be substituted. He had acted like he had forgotten each time. The food was alright, honestly could just be projecting because the poor service onto the food. But it was a pretty big issue. Then to top it all off he had dropped off the wrong check to our table and when notified he said I was wrong first before even checking. When going to the restroom after leaving he was just by register laughing and talking(probably not about what had happened), butI’d have thought he would be a little more cautious about the entire incident. At a minimum he also gave someone else the incorrect bill and I’m sure those weren’t the only mistakes he made.

Got a very warm welcome from Jeremy and felt so much love and warmth. It almost felt like this was a party being thrown at a family home than a restaurant visit so to say.

Stopped for pics along with the way right after the steps with the aquarium in the background. We clicked for a bit and the moved down to the checkin desk.

Got checked in with Lisa who was so cheerful and welcoming even though we were a couple minutes late ( took longer clicking pics) and she walked us to our table upstairs.

Christopher ( we were served by a few hosts during our trip in LA, none like Christopher though. BIG shoutout to him and his service!!!) was our host for the evening and made sure we had a wonderful evening and dinner. He helped explain the menu items and answered all our questions in a very friendly manner. Always made sure to checkin with us in a timely fashion and made sure that he kept our ginger refills ( we are big sushi ginger eaters :)) full. His recommendations were phenomenal and we definitely enjoyed them.

We ordered a few of their Maki Signature Sushi rolls namely Oshi Zushi, The Oyabun, Nottonight and added another one from their cold section, The Yellowtail Carpacio ( Serrano). Each roll screamed fresh, amazing taste and left us craving for more. Absolutely loved every bite of our Sushi rolls tot he fullest extent. We ended the dinner with the Yuzu cheesecake and it's absolutely the one to die for. Finger-licking good and had the right balance of sweetness and the candied kumquats absolutely added the much needed citric balance to the sweet offering. Presentation was fantastic and could have ordered a few more of these without a doubt!!

Absolute recommendation and you definitely got to visit them even if you don't happen to be in LA!!!

Late post. Was at Perch dining with my husband and 25 yr old son and was heading out. Saw the entrance to Mrs. Fish on the bottom floor and decided to peek in to get the vibe of the restaurant since I heard so much about this place and once considered it for future dining. Security guard said no. Are you serious? I don’t know if it was control thing. He then reluctantly said yes. We had just enjoyed a nice evening at Perch. And no we were not inebriated. At this point my husband and son weren’t interested but I went downstairs anyways for a few seconds. The restaurant is beautiful. But I learned a long time ago not to venture to places where I’m not welcomed.

I’m like I’ve already discussed with the other host its surprise bday. Again sorry sir we need your entire party. That was a buzz kill. It’s alright. Food wasn’t anything special. They tried to make the inside look nice with a giant fish tank. It’s nothing compared to miami. Maybe my issue is I’m spoiled and I’ve experienced incredible restaurants . The service wasn’t the best. I guess it’s LA. I wouldn’t return. I went to celebrate a special birthday they didn’t seem to care to much. It was just average. Paying high prices. But again it’s LA.

I'll leave a star, but honestly I don't even think this place deserves it.
Me and my wife came to this place for our 10th year anniversary, and of course I was expecting nothing but a good experience.
Food was great but service was horrible
Honestly you get better service at a fast food restaurant
When we walked in and after we got our table and sat down, the person who was supposed to be our waitress ( I don't remember her name, but she was Asian)
I don't even think she introduced herself
She was not friendly at all
She wasn't attentive to us/table
Didn't check up on us to see how we were doing or if we needed anything else.
Didn't go over the manu whatsoever
Didn't seem like a pleasant server, looked miserable.
For the price of the manu I was expecting a good service at least
However she was a little more talkative to other table from what I notice.
One of the busboy/runner gave us a little of a better service than her, and she was supposed to be our server SMH!!!
The guy who brought us the drinks was nice at least
I was expecting a good service and good experience from this place since it was our first time here, I hope the tip went to the busboy and the guy who brought us the drinks, beacuse definitely she doesn't deserve it.
She only came to our table once and that was in the beginning.
I think the busboy/runner should be promoted to a server instead, at least he gave us some service and more tips about the menu and engaged with us a little more.

As far as the food, what CAN’T I say! The sushi and drinks were absolutely incredible. I ate here once with a friend before I decided to bring my partner, and I had a unique and delicious experience every single time.

Also, the mural leading downstairs to the restaurant is easily one of my favorite things (second only to the huge aquariums). All in all, the food rocks, the atmosphere is classy and fun, and the service is out of this world.

That edamame and the skewers are to die and all the cocktails I had have been great. The doorman is so kind and has such great hospitality, and the room itself is very artistic and beautiful. It’s definitely worth coming and hanging out with friends and having a good time. I’ve also come on Tuesdays when they have live music and had a great time.

Went for my anniversary.
Don't get any of the sushi. Their fish was chewy and subpar. Supermarket quality. For the price, you're better off getting your sushi somewhere else.

The steaks were fantastic. Delicious and flavorful. Filling as well.
Atmosphere with live music that was easy on the ears was also great.

Title: Disappointing Culinary Experience at Mrs. Fish

I recently visited Mrs. Fish in Los Angeles, and unfortunately, my dining experience was far from satisfactory. I am disappointed to say that the flaws in this restaurant were numerous, leaving a lasting negative impression on me.

To start, the most concerning aspect was the poor execution of the dishes. The food was cooked improperly, leading to a lackluster and unpleasant dining experience. The sushi, which should be the highlight of any Japanese establishment, fell short of expectations. The ingredients used in the sushi were far from fresh, with a particular highlight being the exceedingly disappointing avocado. It was genuinely rotten, leaving an unpleasant taste and odor that tainted the entire dish.

Not only was the sushi disappointing, but the ribeye steak that my party ordered also left much to be desired. Despite paying a premium for what was supposed to be a delectable ribeye experience, the steak lacked flavor, was cooked improperly and didn't resemble a ribeye cut in the slightest. This mishap further solidified my disappointment in the overall quality of the food at Mrs. Fish.

In addition to the culinary mishaps, the service we received was lacking in attentiveness and care. Our server seemed disinterested and inattentive throughout the meal, leaving us feeling neglected and frustrated. We had to repeatedly request basic necessities such as water refills and condiments, which further disrupted our dining experience.

Overall, Mrs. Fish failed to meet even the most basic expectations of a dining establishment. The subpar execution of the dishes, including the rotten avocado in the sushi and the misrepresentation of the ribeye steak, combined with the lackluster service, left me regretting my decision to dine at this restaurant. I would highly recommend exploring other options in the area to avoid similar disappointment.

It was my first time here in this industrial basement. The place once inside is pretty cool. Unique for sure!

The drinks are like no others I've had. The bird drink is a must try! I enjoyed all the other items on the menu more than the sushi. Not at all bad, just wasn't impressed.

My only issue was the noise volume. The DJ is loud too loud! Sooo loud you couldn't really have conversations with you date without saying "what what" all the time. Got annoying real quick. Music should be background not the main event.

We went up to Perch for dessert instead of staying longer.

Staff were really friendly and their prices were good!

Cardboard paper holding up table.

I recently dined at Mrs. Fish in Los Angeles, and I must admit, my first-time experience left me underwhelmed. With high expectations for an exceptional evening, I was genuinely excited to explore what the restaurant had to offer. Unfortunately, my excitement quickly turned into disappointment due to several key factors.

The most significant issue was the service, which fell far below my expectations. Our waitress appeared disinterested and unpleasant, which cast a shadow over the entire dining experience. It was evident that she didn't seem happy to be there, and her lack of enthusiasm was palpable. The lack of attentiveness and genuine care for our dining experience was a major letdown.

Despite this disappointing start, my party and I did our best to salvage the evening and enjoy our meal. The ambiance of Mrs. Fish is undoubtedly unique and captivating, with its intriguing décor and setting. However, even the most beautiful surroundings couldn't fully compensate for the lackluster service.

In terms of the food, while it had its moments, it didn't manage to make up for the overall disappointment. There were some dishes that were quite good, but others left much to be desired, making the dining experience feel inconsistent.

In summary, my first visit to Mrs. Fish in LA was marred by poor service and an overall underwhelming experience. I had high hopes for a memorable evening, but unfortunately, those expectations were not met. I hope the restaurant management takes these concerns to heart and works to improve the quality of service, as well as the consistency of the dining experience, to ensure that future patrons can truly enjoy all that Mrs. Fish has to offer.

Cute restaurant! Celebrated our daughter’s birthday here. Everything we ordered (and it was quite a bit) was great. Service could have been a little better considering it wasn’t very busy. We went on a Wednesday evening. The valet service they use, I’m not too happy with. Not the restaurant’s fault and does not affect this review. Just something I wanted to mention. That night when they retrieved our car, I don’t know what they did but when they put the car in park, the car made a noise and they had pulled up and braked hard. Didn’t appreciate that at all.

Came here seeing the high reviews. This is 100% a place that needs a reservation if you want to give this place a try. I would also recommend doing the valet option for parking, as parking here is kinda atrocious.

The food overall was pretty good and really fresh. I highly recommend the bake blue crab roll and the crispy salmon. Those two were probably the highlight of the meal itself.

The uni pasta somewhat just reminded me of your general Chinese restaurant lobster noodle dish, which kind of reduced the overall "wow" factor of the dish. Not to say the dish wasn't good, just I couldn't find a justification to paying the price for the dish.

Ordered the Japanese Yam thinking it'll be sweet or what not, instead, what I got was something that reminded me of McDonald's Fries, which was kind of strange.

I would recommend both the plum wine (as shown in photo) and the yuzurin drink, both completely different palate but both pretty good. Both goes down well and doesn't have a very strong alcohol after taste, which was really comfortable. The Yuzurin is really mellow and the smell of the drink was delightful.
