We are located at the Art District in DTLA. Simple-yet-intimate Japanese restaurant preparing artful sushi & cooked dishes to pair with sake.
My mom and I ate here with some friends a few days ago and it was so delicious and fresh. Our waiter was very kind and friendly. The tuna onigiri was really yummy and my drink was good I can’t remember the name of it lol. The miso soup was delicious as well. I definitely recommend eating here if you love fresh sushi. We sat outside and it was such a nice atmosphere. 10/10 🥰😝😋

Kombu Sushi Arts District: My New Favorite Sushi Spot
I recently visited Kombu Sushi in the Arts District, and it was an exceptional experience from start to finish. The ambiance was delightful, creating a perfect setting for a memorable meal.
I started with the miso soup and edamame, both of which were excellent starters. The miso soup was warm and comforting, while the edamame was fresh and perfectly salted. Next, I had the calamari, which was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, making it a great appetizer.
For sushi, I tried the tuna roll, salmon fusion roll, and crunchy roll. The tuna roll was fresh and flavorful. The salmon fusion roll, a salmon avocado roll topped with salmon, sesame oil, ponzu, shichimi, and red onions, was a delightful combination of flavors and textures. The crunchy roll, with shrimp tempura, crab, avocado, cucumber, tempura flakes, and drizzled with eel sauce, was a standout with its perfect crunch and savory taste.
The quality of the food was top-notch, with great presentation and attention to detail. The customer service was also on point. The staff was friendly and attentive, ensuring we had a great dining experience. We even received complimentary matchboxes and dessert, which was a lovely touch.
The best time to visit Kombu Sushi is during happy hour, as it offers great deals on their delicious offerings. With great quality food, excellent service, and a wonderful ambiance, Kombu Sushi has become my new favorite sushi spot. I'll definitely be coming back again. Highly recommended!

Just a regular sushi place, nothing fancy, that said tataki salad was DELICIOUS. Service not as good because i went for my Timeleft dinner and the waiter not only did not know what it was, he combined the two different Timeleft tables without asking us whether we wanted that and he did not give us individual checks.

Warm & quick service, delicious & well-portioned food, and nice, airy ambience!! We were lucky enough to get complimentary ice cream for dessert and even little pink Kombu matchboxes as a souvenir. Definitely recommend this dog-friendly spot. (There’s even a dog menu!)

I recommend the ginger mushroom soup as a starter (they also have miso soup but trust me!.... a big bowl of that with udon noodles sounds amazing).
The Citron Roll is my favorite and a popular item!
Save room for dessert because the mochi ice cream is SO GOOD. I got lychee for my first visit and green tea the second.

Wow!!!! I am a sushi snob and I’m so thankful I found this place on my way home!!! The fish melts in your mouth and is so fresh. Jessica and the whole wait staff were very attentive and personable. The chef killed it with his amazing cuts of fish. Everything I had was in top 5 of all my experiences.
Salmon collar
9 piece sushi
Krispy Rice
Spicy garlic edamame
It has very light environment with huge full windows and a cute outdoor patio.

From the second we walked in, we knew we were going to have a great experience. Mike (owner/manager?) greeted us at the door with cheerful enthusiasm and got us to our seats. He was patient with us and offered us numerous suggestions as we made our way through the menu. I ordered a soju cocktail, my partner a beer, along with several items including specialty rolls and nigiri. The cocktail was remarkably delicious, the fish tasted fresh and was well manicured, and we were pleasantly surprised with the specialty rolls. The rest of the staff was lovely and accommodating through the duration of our visit; they even gave us two kinds of ice cream complementary as a a dessert! Bonus points for the pictures of customers’ pets on the wall (the name of the restaurant is after the owners’ shiba inu). All in all, we had a wonderful time and will be returning with friends.

Excellent atmosphere and hospitality. The sushi rolls were well made. Flavor, skill, and execution were awsome.
We got four specialty rolls:
Salmon Fusion
Nirvana
Spider
And one with mango can't remember.
I especially liked the poke bowl. The raw vegetables were marinated so it gave a good crunch with good flavor.
Shout-out to front of house!

What great little discovery! My wife and I were exploring DTLA on a sleepy rainy Sunday and happened upon this great sushi restaurant off of Santa Fe Ave in Downtown LA. The sign from the street read, “Happy Hour 3-6pm daily!”
We stopped in to get the Mrs some tasty sushi.
Kombu Sushi was a cozy bright fantastic surprise!
Great fresh fish, chill atmosphere, and excellent service!
We were given seared yellowtail sushi as well as lynchee mochi ice cream.
They were so nice.

Service: The waitress with bob hair is rude enough to ask for more tip and then more again. They threaten me repeatedly unless I tip the amount they wish. A habit of theirs is that they always stare at you as you tip, eyeing the amount. It is quite pathetic actually. It’s either that this resturant is pity enough not to pay its employees a decent salary, or that this particular waitress is poison. They don’t even offer a great service. They seem to be slow and negligent on purpose to seat you when you arrive. Over the five times I’ve been there, they never put on any smile and always have a bitter attitude, even though and my friends always talk nice and friendly. Be aware if you plan to visit and expect the exortion of them standing over you as you tip.
Food: Food and setup are good for what it is, (i.e., not a higher end $100 resturant), while the lunch menu is better than the dinner one. The dinner menu can feel overpriced since the portion size is not as good, but the price is $10 higher than similar dish for lunch.
I hope the resturant takes a note of the issue of this particular employee if they care enough about their business.

Good food. Terrible service. Never could figure out exactly who my server was and whoever helped me got frustrated when I asked a question about the menu. Was brought my check, inquired about the service charge got told that it’s at every LA restaurant (as a service industry vet I know it’s not- I don’t blame my servers but they should be able to provide some kind of answer as to where that fee goes). Homeboy never even said thank you. Super inhospitable sketchy service

not that great of a sushi place, sat us down and then didn't give us menus....food took forever to come out. their miso soup is also more watered down now compared to last year & food is in smaller portions while same price or more expensive. the chicken katsu is much more flat to give it the effect of being a huge portion but actually it's smaller than before

Wow I felt so well taken care of walking in with my two friends and the food was heavenly! Their hot house sake was the perfect ending and I usually don't like to drink. Very clean especially since my friend installs tech ware in a lot of restaurant chains and knows how it can be behind the scene in cleanliness preparing the food - you can see how carefully hygenic everything was well thought out in the kitchen layout and the consideration of preparation into the food from the kitchen staff to waiting tables. Felt like home.

This is my new favorite sushi spot! Susie, the owner, was amazing and a truly wonderful host. My coworkers and I tried their dinner menu for two which include a soup, a starter, a few rolls and a dessert. The miso Brussel sprouts and spicy tuna rice cakes are so delicious! The rolls we tried were Citron, Nirvana and Cajun. I was wary of Cajun because it was spicy, but I really enjoyed the Spanish rice in the rolls. The Citron was also delightful and the nirvana was beautifully decorated and my coworkers favorite. We also tried the vruit roll which was so interesting and colorful. It had mango inside. Lastly we had a lychee sorbet with fruit which was a perfect palate cleanser!
I also especially loved that the restaurant was named after her dog, Kombu. Kombu is a Shiba inu who looks like a fox, which is why the logo is a fox. There is a dog membership at the restaurant where the dogs get a bandana and a free meal of rice with chicken or salmon.
It was such a nice experience. I can't wait to come back again!

I tried Kombu sushi a few years back, and it was impressive. However, this recent visit, in my opinion, taste wise has gone down. Sushi rice was alright. Ordered the sashimi plate and Arizona roll. Sashimi was decent. Roll was average. Nothing is really memorable.
The atmosphere seems a little too try hard. It's located in DTLA and gives off DTLA hipster vibe.

Interesting / stylish yet lacks the flavor to match up.
Parking is a little funky but not too hard. If there's room, it's worth parking in the adjoining parking lot. You can pay via the parking app that is listed at the lot, but note that Kombu will give you a validation code after you eat which is really convenient.
Walking to the restaurant (which is on the opposite side of the parking lot), you'll be greeted by neat murals on the walls and a really cozy interior with some bar seating and outdoor seating as well. I was immediately seated (I did RSVP but on a Sunday evening, it wasn't overly busy).
I was given the lunch Dine LA menu on a Sunday which was apparently the only menu they had for DineLA for this day.
*Ginger Mushroom Soup: I opted for this soup over the miso soup. Not bad! Reminiscent of Chinese ginger soup and was one of the better dishes of the meal.
*Spicy Tuna Rice Cakes: Basically like a spicy tuna crispy rice but with different presentation styling. Taste-wise it wasn't too bad although also not that different from a standard spicy tuna rice cake.
*Citron Roll: Was recommended this roll to try and just wasn't a fan unfortunately. The lemon for me really sucks all the flavor out of the roll and overly dominates the palette. Wasn't spicy at all.
*Mochi Ice Cream: They only had the strawberry mochi ice cream left. The presentation as always was good. Just didn't really differentiate itself much from a standard mochi ice cream.
*Blue crab hand roll: I wanted to get this separately just out of curiosity and was left fairly disappointed as well. The handroll itself was small and the avocado stuck out like a sore thumb agains the blue crab.
For the DineLA pricing, it was okay, but for a standard sushi spot, it doesn't match up as well.

Forgot how bomb the fish was. Wife ordered the Dinner special (which is $49 but over $70 if you order everything separately- worth it). The special cane with a tofu steak which was crazyyyyyy good!! Surprised how much flavor it had.
My favorite roll today was the Nirvana Roll! Tasted just like ceviche!
Service was great and waitress was very attentive.

I tried to order take out at 9:10pm just now on a Tuesday. Apparently last call is at 9pm even though they close at 10pm. The waitress said the cooks were already cleaning up and putting things away. I asked her wouldn’t they still have to sit someone if they came now and she again said, “no last call is at 9.” So if you’re looking to come eat there at 9pm apparently you won’t get served. Disappointing as there were only two tables when I walked in. I asked if the waitress if she could ask them to take it since they close at 10pm. She wouldn’t even ask them. I live upstairs in the apartments above, I like this place a lot but why not just close at 9pm??

I got the 49$ 4 course meal. Truthfully after adding up the cost of all the choices against the menu all you are getting is a free cocktail and saving three bucks so if your not gonna drink maybe just choice your own though the options were very open. The quality of the fish and food was superb. On the course i got the miso soup tuna fried app, salmon fusion and the chef 5 piece nigiri. Which was super fresh and a good selection. The place itself is small but the service was friendly and very welcoming. Dine in on Friday night and was not crowded at all but don't let that say anything about the food for there are many good sushi places in this immediate area but I highly recommend trying this one out for sure

This is a relatively new restaurant located inside One Sant Fe on the first level, with is mixed zoning area (the rental office is located at the entrance near Cafe Gratitude). It has a nice casual vibe with both outdoor and indoor seating.
The menu here is quite extensive - there is good variety of rolls, sushi and entrees. It was difficult to choose even though both of us had specific tastes in mind when we arrived. You may access the menu using a QR code, or they re happy to provide. paper menu upon request.
The restaurant is dog friendly, as the restaurant was inspired by the rescue dog of the owner. The story is told on a beautiful color laminated printed piece. There are photo opportunities with the dog at specific times; patrons re encouraged to bring their dog to dine, and there is a small portion of the menu.
My husband began his meal with 3 piece sashimi maguro. He was pleased as the slices were thicker than anticipated. His entree was Chicken Katsu with miso soup and rice. The slice of chicken was generous, but a little dry and flavorless. I chose the Alaska roll; based on cost I expected to be full before I finished it. I was not very large, and I was still hungry, so I chose Soft Shell Crab to complete the meal. The crab did not have a lot of flavor to it, and I did not finish it. We enjoyed a few cocktails with our meal as well. My husband chose a Hakutsuru warmed sake; I tried both Plum Wine Sparkler and Yuzu Spritz. I liked the plumb wine better.
The service was good, we did not have to wait long for our beverages or meal. They do not accept cash, so make sure you have debit/credit card to pay. Additionally, it was not clear whether or not the $4 surcharge added to bill (intended to assist providing health insurance for employees) is actually being used to provide this benefit. This optional fee is not new, I believe that many restaurants in West Hollywood and Los Angeles area have been adding this fee for past 4-5 years. I believe that they validate parking if you are unable to find street parking or a spot in the lot near their location (by rental office).
I think this is a good choice for convenient quick meal for the residents of apartment at One Santa Fe. It is in a good location, and it seemed to fill up as we were finishing our meal. But I do not think that we will try this one again - it is a little expensive if you want to be full by time you leave, and it just was not in line with other sushi restaurants we have frequented over the years.

The service is lovely and attentive but the prices are high for the volume and quality. Free 2 hour parking with validation. Space is pleasant.

One of the rare place to serve fatty tuna (ottoro) which is DELICIOUS!
This place gets busy with take out orders and everything is prepared on the spot and fresh, so be patient.
Service is great, our waiter was very kind and patent with us and remembered each of our orders for a group of 10+ even when some had forgotten or were not listening.
I look forward to visit this restaurant again next time I'm in LA.

My friend and I tried the salmon roll, eel roll, and the shrimp tempura. My favorite was the eel roll. Due to happy hour (3-6pm), prices for each roll were $6. The decor was impressive and it was colorful, airy, and lots of sunshine. My favorite was the green tea ice cream. It was just the right amount of sweet and green tea flavor. Can't wait to go back!

Service is amazing, food tastes really good and fresh but be aware that you might expect some waiting time to get your orders. Still, the waiting is worth it. The masters sushi chefs are incredible and the options for vegans and non seafood enjoyers are good too.

Unbelievable attention to detail, and you will eat until you’re full. The owner, Michael, takes care of his customers so closely, you would never know he’s the owner. It’s only been open 3 months at this point, but it’s one of the best Sushi spots in Los Angeles.

10_ Just overall awesomeness
Since my first visit I’ve come back almost every day in the span of a week I mean I keep wanting to try everything and every time I leave happy with a belly full and a happy wallet.
I hope this place does really well as they truly deserve a place in the Artist District restaurant scene but yet again I want to be selfish because I really don’t want it to get too crowded that I can’t get a table, but that’s just me being selfish so let this be for posterity to let people know that attended this place before it was cool!

The best sashimi I’ve ever had! Came here with my son by chance and so glad I did! We had the calamari too and it was yummy. Rachel’s service was great and the sushi chef’s were nice too, I think they appreciated my enthusiasm for how delicious the food was lol

The Arts District has always been known for its amazing restaurants and their unique personalities. Every corner of this neighborhood is home to a world-class restaurant with flavors truly encapsulating the spirit of LA. As a result, there is no shortage of delicious food. Kombu Sushi is the new kid on the block, but they easily hold their own against some of the very best. The seafood and service are the standouts of this establishment. Personal favorites include the sashimi plate, chirashi, 3 shrooms, and lychee sorbet. The sashimi are excellent quality, vibrantly fresh, and skillfully sliced to feature the beautiful flavors and textures of each fish. The staff are incredibly friendly and professional despite the restaurant still being in the soft-opening phase. I look forward to visiting again!
