Despite having the loveliest view in the city, the experience was unpleasant from the time we pulled into the valet. $20 to park at their own restaurant lot where the valet crew stank so badly of weed and were so high they shouldn’t have been taking anyone’s keys.

The restaurant was extremely loud; they sat us at a 6 top — for two people it was too much. Service was fine-ish but when we ordered, we were told that dishes would come out “as they were ready.” I asked if our mains could come out at the same time. “We can’t guarantee that” is what I was told. What restaurant can’t guarantee that two people in the same party will get their meal at the same time so one isn’t watching the other eat alone.
Our order: miso soup — bad, bland.
Branzino — dry, overcooked and my companion asked for the chili oil on the side.. dish came absolutely smothered in it
Steak and garlic noodles — meh. Fine but not good
Sides of broccoli and mushrooms — came out cold and broccoli was majorly undercooked, plus EVERY DISH was covered in some plastic-like grated Parmesan. For Asian food?? What?? It was disgusting.

When the bill came, it was almost $200 (with ni drinks besides water) for what was basically an inedible meal with service that totally lacked any care or consideration. It was appalling.

I will NEVER go here again.

My daughter made a reservation 15 minutes before arrival at 7:30pm. It was our first time and walking up to the outdoor part of restaurant was enchanting! Everything is beautiful!
We got a table outside by the edge of the cliff and had the most beautiful night view of LA!
Food was delicious!
I recommend Yamashiro Hollywood 100%

I really liked the restaurant's ambiance, and the food was pretty good as well. Overall, I would give it 5 stars, but I deducted 1 star due to an issue that I hope the restaurant can address, as it affects the guests' experience.

While we were dining, a very enthusiastic female photographer approached our table. After confirming that we were a couple, she asked us to pose for some intimate photos and took quite a few shots. We assumed it was part of the restaurant’s internal photography, perhaps for customer documentation, so we didn’t question it. However, less than 10 minutes later, another woman suddenly came to our table with a stack of printed photos and asked us to choose some, requesting payment through Venmo.

We initially thought this was part of the restaurant’s team, but it seemed like it wasn’t, as the payment couldn’t be included with our food bill. This sudden request to purchase photos was quite impolite. We’re not sure if the restaurant staff is aware of this, but we hope that in the future, guests can be informed of the purpose of such photography beforehand. We didn’t need a photographer as we had our own camera and phone, and the experience felt like a forced sales pitch, which disrupted our dining experience.

Why have I not been here sooner?!? In the hills above Hollywood is Yamashiro, a HUGE indoor/outdoor Japanese restaurant. The setting is beautiful, with a view over Hollywood and you can see downtown. The food was great, with traditional Japanese dishes (sushi, sashimi, nigiri, etc.) and more Japanese-Western fusion dishes (steak and garlic noodles). Highly recommended for a date night, but there were also some groups of 8 and 10 too. Valet parking is $20, but I wouldn’t really trust Angelinos to park their own cars there, so it’s like it is at other higher-end restaurants in LA.

The views are incredible.

The bad side is that we came at a quite time with maybe 2 groups of people but yet our food came after everyone else that showed up after us. The price you pay for the food is diabolically and not worth it. The staff don't bring anything to do the table for example we ordered coffee but no sugar or stirrers.. and when we asked, it only took around 30 minutes to the point that I had to get up and speak to the manager. The bill was over 200$ for 4 people, for BREAKFAST. don't think I will.be coming back again. Thank you but no thank you

So I came with two friends and ordered the Spanish Octopus and the Green Dragon with the White dragon.

The Octopus was cooked perfectly and Octopus of spanish rice which paired perfectly with the texture of the Octopus.

I would like a bit more portion of Octopus but that's neither here nor there.
I wish I got pics of the night because the view IS beautiful.

my friends weren't too happy about the fried rice so maybe avoid that when coming!

Cool vibes and cool views… on a clear night this place has some of the coolest dinning views of anywhere in the city. We had a Rez here the other night since my friend had been wanting to check this spot out… and it felt like we got half of the royal treatment… they brought out free food and lots of it, which was cool, baked lobster and calamari were hits for sure… but if I’m going to a sushi restaurant and the fried calamari is the standout… something’s wrong… this place isn’t cheap, and isn’t very good sushi wise… I’ve been to cheap sushi spots that it tasted fresher at… also… if we ask for water and drinks and it takes 30 minutes for those to arrive and yet we get our food brought sooner, something’s wrong… they said the reason for our drinks being slow was because “the drinks runner” called out sick… so why did all the tables around us get there drinks in plenty of time?? Weird experience here… feels classy until you sit down and then are met with service that doesn’t exactly resemble the bill… I’d expect this level of service at a movie theater not at a dinner your paying $250 for

beautiful restaurant with bar and indoor/outdoor seating areas. food was decent considering the price and comments made by other reviewers. service was superb. definitely a great place to come with friends for the vibes and views. spent nye dinner here with my family and it was very enjoyable! however by the time we left (~10:30pm) the venue had gotten really crowded with young people lining up for the club and bar areas of the restaurants. nonetheless still a pleasant experience and would recommend if visiting LA.

dish recommendations: lobster karaage, matcha tiramisu, tuna crispy rice

Our visit to Yamashiro Hollywood was very disappointing and didn’t meet our expectations.

Negatives:
• Parking is valet-only and costs $20, even though our car was parked right next to the pick-up area. Self-parking would have been much easier.
• Despite having a reservation, we waited over 30 minutes for our table.
• We were celebrating my 30th birthday and requested a nice table, but we were given a wobbly table in the far corner – very disappointing.
• The food service was chaotic: One main dish arrived first, followed by the second about 5 minutes later. The appetizer didn’t arrive until after we had finished both main courses, which was unprofessional.
• The food (Garlic Noodles, Soy Somen Noodles, and an appetizer) was decent but absolutely not worth the exorbitant prices.

Positives:
• Our waiter was friendly and attentive.

Overall, Yamashiro Hollywood is highly overrated. We wouldn’t return and can’t recommend it.

Ambience is very good, food is good but that doesn't mean to take customers for granted. Had a very BAD experience with a lot of waiting time for taking order, bringing food, for getting check and for giving card the back too. Literally waited for 45 min after done with the food.
Service also foremost important for any restaurant.
On top of it gave out door seating with the propane heater which ran out of gas. Requested multiple times to change it but sat there in cold climate for couple of hours with no heater.

Dear Yamashiro team, please show some courtesy towards customers🙏🏻

Came here to come eat dinner and it was a beautiful scene. The waiter is very helpful with the menu and we had a surprise comedy show by Tiffany Haddish. It was my first time at Yamashiro and I was super excited to try one of La’s most hyped up restaurants. Don’t get me wrong the food was really good. I would definitely recommend coming for the sushi, pork chops, sashimi, and garlic noodles everything had an amazing taste but the service ? That was HORRIBLE. Our server Sage was just rude and didn’t seem to care at all. Everyone has bad days, but to do an eye roll over a simple question or to not ask the basic “how are you guys doing?” is abnormal in providing good hospitality especially in a 5 star restaurant. The food was fancy, the bill was big, but service was bad. Beautiful restaurant but I would rather go to another local restaurant where I know the service will match the price on the bill.

Beautiful setting. It’s definitely a IG spot for lots of photos. Go at night, it’s really pretty. The vibe is awesome. Food was delicious except for one Korean noodle dish we ordered that was really bland. Staffing could improve as the service took a long time. Hard to get our waiter to pay attention to us as he was running around. It’s a large restaurant.

Probably the best dining view in Los Angeles. On a clear day, you can see from the ocean to downtown.

Stick to the Japanese portion of the menu, not nothing EXCEPT the incredible Matcha Tiramisu stand out. It's very unfortunate, Yamashiro is resting on its fame and gorgeous view, that there doesn't seem to be much effort or care in the quality of food. The presentation is very nice, but the taste is what you'd expect of any place that has a guaranteed high volume of tourists every night.
The service staff is largely apathetic with the result that the 3 or 4 servers and bartenders that do care are essentially overworked as everyone is asking them for help.

I would highly recommend everyone go there once, preferably just before sunset to watch the sky show and the lights come on, order a beer and app and then go into Hollywood or Studio City for a nice meal.

If you liked my review please give me a thumbs up 👍🏾 to let me know! Follow me for more fun reviews. 🙏🏾

If you're looking for a trendy spot to take pictures and "keep up with the Joneses," this place might work. But if you're after good food, you'd be better off visiting a local food truck or even Cheesecake Factory.

The food here was bland and basic, especially for the price. I'm from New York, so I'm used to rude people, but the service here was a solid 0. Our waitress couldn't even manage to get menus or water for everyone at our table. Sure, maybe she was having a bad day—it happens—but the food? C’mon, please do better.

Yamashiro is definitely one of those restaurants that you go to for the vibe. The food is outrageously overpriced with a basic sushi roll being $40. Service was decent no complaints there, but I just wish the foods quality matched its value. Overall, I’d give them a 5.7/10 rating.

Used to come here pretty often before, and would often bring along people because this place had a good selection of non fish food that non fish people would love. On my most recent visit yesterday, I saw that their menu changed, it became more expensive and maybe I just don't remember correctly but it seemed like portions became smaller. I also loved going to this place because valet was half of what it took to park a car in LA, now it's the same @20 dollars. It's a nice restaurant to bring a date to but no longer is it a casual night out type of place anymore like it used to be.

The location is so unique. The atmosphere is unmatched. So picturesque. Food was good. Nigiri was delicious. I had the Faroe Island Salmon and Korean Hirame nigiri. Steak garlic noodles were delicious. The roll my wife got had fried onions on top which looked neat, but overpowered the taste of everything else. Can't comment on the food, but attended the NYE party here on 12/31/23 and want to warn anyone considering doing the same for NYE 25. The entire experience was terrible, from beginning to end. They only allow people to use two bars, so the lines were over an hour long for drinks. Same for the restrooms. It was so crowded you couldn't move, and they kept everyone contained in the courtyard, which is an odd square shape. They clearly oversold it and did not have the logistics figured out. Would not return.

If Cheesecake Factory and Yardhouse adopted and raised an Asian child, it would be this restaurant.

Food $ and quality are on par with a restaurant that has 100 items on the menu. You're paying for the hillside view and Japanese-inspired ambiance. If you want actual steak, go to a steakhouse. If you want actual sushi, go to any of the great of the omakase places in LA. If you want something to post on Instagram then reserve that dinner slot ASAP

The location of Yamashiro Hollywood is undeniably stunning – the views are breathtaking and definitely the highlight of the experience. However, the food left a lot to be desired. Honestly, it was “meh” at best, and for the price, I expected much better. The quality felt more like a mid-level buffet rather than what you’d expect from such an iconic spot.

To make matters worse, we were charged a “large party” fee for 4 adults and 2 small kids – and the kids literally just shared an order of fries! It felt unfair and completely unjustified. Overall, the food and the added charges just didn’t match the location’s reputation. I’d say go for the view, but don’t set your expectations high for the food.

Honestly, I did not remember what I ate.
I truly drenched in the Japanese Vibe, and if you like middle eastern vibe. There is an area for only Arabic vibe restaurant here, and belly dance show after midnight. I like Japanese Kimono.
After walking a long way, we saw a Japanese-style building, which made us feel like we were back in Japan.

Yamashiro, nestled in the Hollywood Hills, is more than just a dining destination—it’s a full sensory experience. With its rich history dating back to 1914, this Japanese-style mansion has evolved into one of Los Angeles’ most iconic spots, offering not only exquisite food but also breathtaking views of the city skyline.

Ambiance

The ambiance is unparalleled. Yamashiro’s architecture, inspired by a Japanese palace, features lush gardens, koi ponds, and a stunning pagoda. At night, the twinkling lights of Los Angeles below create a magical setting, perfect for romantic dinners, special occasions, or simply a memorable evening out.

Cuisine

The menu is a fusion of Asian-inspired dishes with a California twist. Highlights include:
• Sushi and Sashimi: Fresh, artfully crafted, and delicious, with creative rolls that cater to traditionalists and adventurous palates alike.
• Wagyu Beef: A tender, perfectly seared delicacy that melts in your mouth.
• Miso Black Cod: A standout dish with rich, umami flavors that epitomizes the restaurant’s balance of tradition and innovation.
• Cocktails: Inventive and refreshing, they often incorporate Asian flavors like yuzu and matcha, complementing the meal beautifully.

Service

The staff at Yamashiro are attentive and knowledgeable, enhancing the dining experience without being intrusive. Whether you have dietary restrictions or need recommendations, they are happy to accommodate.

Price Point

Yamashiro leans toward the higher end, with entrees and specialty items reflecting the premium quality of ingredients and the unparalleled setting. While it’s not an everyday spot for most, the overall experience justifies the cost for special occasions or when you want to treat yourself.

Overall Experience

Yamashiro is more than just a meal; it’s a journey through history, culture, and flavor. The combination of panoramic views, exceptional food, and a serene atmosphere makes it one of Los Angeles’ must-visit dining spots. Whether you’re a tourist exploring Hollywood or a local looking for a stunning evening out, Yamashiro delivers on all fronts.
The only potential drawbacks are the higher price point and occasional difficulty securing a reservation—but both are small prices to pay for such a memorable experience.

Then when they did seat me they tried to put me in a small isolated corner room despite the fact that there were multiple seats open (like 20….) in the garden which is the whole experience…. I asked the hostess, a mid twenties red haired woman, if I could sit in the garden and she told me it would be 1 hour in a very passive aggressive way. Luckily a different hostess accommodated me 14 minutes later but there is no reason I got seated 45 mins after I got there with a reservation in a half empty restaurant. Food is very overpriced and parking should not be $20 or charged if you are eating at their restaurant. Tacky. Will never go back. I make good money too so don’t assume I’m cheap!

Went there to celebrate my partner’s birthday. Food was mediocre. You can find better quality food for less at other places. You are definitely paying for the view. Nothing else.

Service is ok. I work in hospitality and can testify that service was lacking. We started by going ti the bar and ordering a drink. Upon asking the bartender about the Japanese Plum Wine I got a sharp and dismissive answer. Decided to go with it either way to try it out. I was served two fingers of it. Didn’t let it bother me. After sitting down we were left with two empty menus. It only had the cover. Server was ok. Food was like pub food. We ordered the hand rolled sushi which was good. Agedashi tofu was lacking. Ordered the fish pie which tastes like an Irish Pub pie and the main pork belly dish is actually made with bacon and not actual pork belly.

They don’t offer parking, only valet which is $20. They don’t validate for discount. We asked the valet person if they were part of the hotel or a third party company and was told that they were part of the restaurant. We asked why they were charging that amount if so, and got the answer “solve it in the restaurant”.

Definitely not worth going back.

The sushi with the dichon was recommended to us by our waiter and it was absolutely horrendous. I had to have it removed from table immediately because the smell was terrible. My friend and I were sat at a very tiny corner table which was very uncomfortable. The atmosphere was very cool though.

Management lied several times while trying to plan my girlfriend's 50th birthday party then didn't serve and lost/threw out her custom birthday cake I bought while still charging the cutting fee. We spent over $1100 on dinner and they wouldn't even reimburse the cost of the custom cake they discarded and stopped responding to emails. Been coming here for a lifetime and will not be coming back, it's clear they don't care anymore.

We came here as a friends meet up, recommended by one of the friends in the group. The food was well presented but as far as taste it was not worth the hype. This spot is purely just a place for the views and atmosphere. This is one of those spots that’s its about the views and atmosphere but not about the food.

If you're looking for great Japanese cuisine with 5 star service in LA, I'd recommend visiting Katana.

This review is being written from the perspective of an Australian tourist, first time to this restaurant.

Firstly when we arrived we had no idea where to go. The venue is big, and we werent sure if we were meant to wait at the front entrance or walk through the seating area. We've found some restaurants strict about this. When we realised no one was coming to what looked like a front desk, we keep walking around until we saw a grander entrance.

Yes the venue and the view is spectacular.

Arriving to "check in" for our booking we were met with the most pretentious experiences with staff that made you feel like you were bothering them to let you know you had a booking.

We were told to wait and that we would be sent a text message when the table was ready.

5 or so minutes later we received a text, stood in the foyer to then realise we actually had to go to the front desk again and tell them that we had received the text.

Whilst this is happening wait staff are haphazardly shouting out random assortments of names and table numbers trying to find guests who actually weren't event there.

We were seated at our table, where we waited for 15 minutes before anyone brought water or acknowledged that we existed hahaha.

Our actual server was nice and helpful, the first person we had encountered in the evening who was friendly and polite.

We ordered the pork belly, two salmon hand rolls, sticky Avocado rice and sweet potato.

The pork belly was gross, absolutely no flavour or texture.

The hand rolls were average, really nothing to write home about.

The sweet potato was so dry and boiled, again zero flavour.

The best thing was the sticky Avocado rice which was beautiful, complex in flavour and textural. I could have just ordered a plate of this and walked away impressed.

When we went to pay we were told we can't use Apple / Google Pay... we didn't have any other fork of payment.

We then had management take us aside and basically scold us for not having a physical card... it was the most bizarre experience ever.

Basically my advice is, come here and order a drink and enjoy the view. Don't bother with the food.

This is a place to take people whom you want to impress with the view and the palace. Unfortunately the food was very mediocre, particularly at the price point.

Located in a kind of historic palace fashioned after one in Japan on top of a hill, you will find a beautiful view of hollywood and dining in a spectacular interior.

This seems to come as a double edge sword as I guess they need to pay to maintain this and do so at the expense of the quality of the food. Taste wise was on the level of some small town “chinese” restaurant that also does other asian dishes. Not bad but not good and extra Americanized. In a small town at a casual price point it would be fine. Four stars even. But at yamashiros price point and associated fanfare it was a disappointment.

Specifically

Seafood fried rice, great
Yamashiro sushi. Mid
Salmon citrus, terrible, wish they would zest instead of giving whole lemon slices
Uni noodles, horrendous. Imagine Olive Garden, extra cheese sauce, and a scoop of uni
Shishito peppers, spectacular but I think that’s just because Veges in cali are generally so good!

Drinks good, would recommend this approach to appreciate the site but not get fleeced buying mid food

Service was normal nothing to complain about or point out.

Parking $20, no reasonable alternative nearby.

Celebrating my wife’s birthday with our family and friends last night at Yamashiro Hollywood will be memorable for years to come. Starting with having the valet attendants kindly opening all our doors and greeting us with a smile, then heading through what is a welcoming entrance to the property, a full bar to the left for those that partake in bubbly’s then being greeted by the first check in attendant which confirms our reservation after which if you like a picture taken by their photographer at a separate cost she will please you with multiple backgrounds of the views and front entrance to the restaurant. We actually bought 12 pictures because there is still value in having memories captured on print by a good camera. We also have beautiful pics on our phones. Then seated and greeted by our server “Ocean” who was attentive, friendly, and kind as well as keeping our table in her presence at all times was superb service. We also met Christian and Casey two of the managers that came by and added value to our experience by giving suggestions on dishes from the menu that are picture perfect and just adding that extra feel of you are welcomed here at Yamashiro Hollywood. We had caviar, miso soup, edamame, vegetable tempura, and calamari as our appetizers. Our main dish was the giant sushi yacht with a full array of delicious sushi rolls, sashimi, nigiri, and handrolls. The Cowboy steak was cooked to our tantalizing perfection. The Chilean Sea Bass was delicious and beautiful presentation on the plate. For the kids hot dogs and hamburgers kept them happy. We also had the smash cakes to sing the traditional happy birthday song to my gorgeous wife which topped off the night by having the city lights in the background just an amazing dinner celebration. Our deepest gratitude for the wonderful experience we had having a birthday celebration there. Everyone at our table had a great time thanks again.

While the ambiance and panoramic views at Yamashiro offer a stunning backdrop for a meal, the overall dining experience left much to be desired. The food, unfortunately, did not justify the high price point. Although our waiter was friendly and engaging, the service was frustratingly slow, with a notable wait of almost 20 minutes just to receive the bill. Ultimately, the setting and atmosphere were the highlights of the evening, overshadowing the lackluster culinary experience.

Experience gorgeous views, amazing food, exceptional services, and an unforgettable ambiance. A place, perfect to celebrate an anniversary, a date night, a birthday, or simply having a wonderful time. In our case, we celebrated our 10 year anniversary there, and we were surprised with a lovely treat at the end to celebrate the festivity :)

I highly recommend this place and also advise to ensure to place a reservation ahead of time. Don't miss this iconic place while being in Hollywood.

We made reservations at this restaurant, expecting a nice experience. However, after arriving on time, we had to wait 20 minutes to be seated, despite seeing people who arrived after us being seated immediately. Once seated, we were placed in a room completely by ourselves with a horrible view, while other guests were seated outside, enjoying a much better seating.

What made this worse was that after looking around, we noticed there were still available seats outside. When we asked to be moved, we were told it would be an hour wait, even though those who arrived after us were seated outside right away. The only difference between us and the other guests? I’m a person of color, and they were not.

It was clear that this restaurant did not value us as customers, and the staff’s behavior was disrespectful. We were deeply disappointed, as we came for the experience, not just the food. Seeing available seats and others enjoying their time while we were pushed aside made us so uncomfortable that we decided to leave. We even had to pay for parking and went to another restaurant instead.

I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone, especially if you’re a person of color. Their treatment of guests was unacceptable.

Pirched on the top of a hill, this restaurant offers nearly 360-degree view of the city from a very high vantage point. Went to celebrate my wedding anniversary. The atmosphere is second to none, especially if you sit outside and enjoy an unparalleled view of hollywood.

You can google the history of the place. Food is good. Not amazing but good. It would be very good if only the whole experience is quite expensive starting with valet which is set at 20 dollars.

They have a lot of tables so service can be a hit or miss. Still, an amazing place to go to at least increase in a lifetime.

Not atmosphere I was expecting. Figured okay all the outdoor tables were reserved, nope. The same tables I saw empty as I came in were still empty as we left. The hostesses were also quite rude and unfriendly. Food was mid for the cost. Overall, would not visit again.

One of my favorite restaurants. It's truly an unforgettable dining experience! Situated high above the city, the panoramic views of Los Angeles are absolutely stunning, especially at night when the skyline sparkles. The atmosphere is serene and elegant, with its beautiful Japanese-style architecture and tranquil gardens. As for the food, every dish was a masterpiece. From fresh sushi to flavorful Asian fusion dishes, everything was delicious and artfully presented. The cocktails were also superb, perfectly crafted to match the sophisticated atmosphere.
