Koi Restaurant and Lounge in Los Angeles is the flagship location of Koi Group and has been a staple in the LA dining scene since opening its doors in 2002. Creator, Nick Haque, started with a vision of crafting a dining experience that focused on the atmosphere as much as the cuisine became an instant phenomenon. Koi Los Angeles’ unique look and ambiance, coupled with its signature dishes, garnered a cult following and started a movement that changed the landscape of the entire industry.
Enjoyed our evening at Koi. It was a bit quiet when we arrived at 5:30 and I will say, also dark. We struggled to see the menu. Hayley and all the bussers were super helpful and kind. Added to an enjoyable evening dinner with all their food advice and knowledge of the restaurant. The food was sooo good! It is pricey and can easily add up, so be prepared 😁

Koi is hands down our favorite sushi spot! The food is always fresh, delicious, and beautifully prepared, and the desserts are absolutely amazing—a perfect sweet ending to the meal. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting, making it one of our go-to places for sushi and date night.
The staff is incredibly friendly and attentive, always making sure we have a great dining experience. Whether you’re a sushi lover or just looking for a fantastic night out, Koi never disappoints. Highly recommend!

KOI is a harmonious blend of style, flavor, and exceptional service. While it’s on the pricier side, the quality of the food and the luxurious atmosphere make it worth the splurge. It’s an ideal spot for foodies, special occasions, or anyone looking to enjoy a high-end dining experience with a modern edge.
I really enjoyed eating alone at a place like this.

What an AMAZING place for vegans and non-vegans alike to enjoy a spectacular meal. A full vegan menu is available upon request; I came specifically to try the vegan spicy tuna, and it was phenomenal. My table was served by Zack, who was wonderful. An absolute MUST try for any vegan missing sushi!

Wow… it’s not often that I’m beyond impressed with a place… an explosion of flavors with every bite… after 💨 and enjoying some 🌿 this was the perfect late night LA spot, everyone was super friendly including nice patrons sitting at the sushi bar… the Kiro roll was delicious and the I wasn’t crazy about the top of the dragon roll… and the ribeye bites were exactly what I thought they would be.. but I think they’d be more interesting served more similar to yakitori style and made as square bites instead of strips of rib eye… happens creme was totally unnecessary…. While the vegan sundae was out of this world.. a fantastic desert and an expression of so many different complimentary flavors from the peanut butter, espresso chocolate chips… hot fudge and cake filo pieces… must try desert.. and perfect for sharing… I’ll definitely be back here again, to try other things on the menu.. which is something I really appreciated is that the menu had lots of interesting options while not being too overwhelming

This place from the moment you walk in the front door is beyond amazing! They’ve done an amazing job of setting one heck of secluded Tulum vibe but while being in the thick of it all. No detail was left out from the lush landscaping and impeccable design throughout to the delicious food and cocktail menu topped off with incredible service. We had the Crispy Rice with yellowtail and shishito peppers for starters both were some of the best we’ve had. We also had the sun fire roll and short ribs and all I can say is yum! You won’t be disappointed with any of the food here. The margaritas we had were “chefs kiss”! Highly recommend!!

Such an amazing experience all around. From the moment you walk in, you’re welcomed by a beautiful dining room. Our server, Tony, absolutely crushed every single recommendation. At one point, we just turned it over to him and told him to bring us out whatever he recommends. Every single dish was spectacular. Tony truly made this an elevated experience for us. I will 100% come back any time I am in LA. Thank you, Tony!

I booked this restaurant for our 15 anniversary. I specifically put it in the notes of our OpenTable reservation and was slightly disappointed there was absolutely no recognition of our momentous date. At the end when we were exchanging cards during dessert, our waitress felt bad because no one told her it was our 15 year anniversary. Our waitress itself was very attentive and friendly, and the food was probably, an 8/10 but just disappointed the hostesses missed out on our special occasion. Please pay attention to the notes. Lastly, I like the modern ambience, but it felt very exposed and feel like they would benefit from some privacy dividers between the booths. Felt like everyone was just staring at each other in a conference room.

5 stars all around the vibe, service and food was excellent.
Big thing I noticed is that the service is excellent they make sure your table is clean at all times to enjoy an elevated dining experience. This is huge, since most restaurants in LA have stopped doing this in the last few years.

Horrible experience. A group of 4 of us went to celebrate my mom’s birthday. The experience was pleasant up until after we ordered and everyone’s entree came out except my mom (the birthday girl). The waitress came back to the table and said “Oh you wanted a short rib meal as well” when she clearly did order the meal along with sides. So she had to wait an extra 25 minutes for her entree to come out because the waitress never put her order in. So she had to wait while the rest of the table was eating. When her food came to the table her brussels sprouts she ordered were totally raw. She informed the waitress and the waitress said she will bring it to the attention of the manager. When the waitress came back she said she was told the cooks prepare the brussel sprouts al dente. She also said she would throw in three surprise desserts for her being disappointed by her sides, but my mom preferred her bill to be comped since she didn’t enjoy it and it came out so late so she requested the manager to come to the table. The manager told us he didn’t know what the waitress was talking about in terms of the veggies being cooked a certain way so after he went back-and-forth with us for a good 10 minutes arguing about how the brussels sprouts seem to be cooked correctly he very abruptly and rudely said “ok what do you want then”. And that’s when I interrupted the conversation and said “I think she would like her whole meal to be taken off the bill because this is getting too blown out of proportion”. He said OK and came back with the new bill in five minutes slammed it on the table and said “OK here you go have a good day”. With all that said the once pleasant experience was turned negative by the wait staff and the manager Adrian arguing with us over a simple mistake that could’ve been fixed with either a new dish or just simply saying sorry, the manager was very very rude and sarcastic with how horribly he handled the situation and had no type of customer service.

The food is chef’s kiss , went 2 days in a row , the only thing I wished they did is when I gave them a feedback on Kobe beef being too salty they could have done more about it rather than just saying ‘sorry’. Since I spent $220 for 2 person they should have done more. That made me a little uncomfortable but other than that, they have well trained staff and very yummy Japanese food.

We visited Koi last night for new years eve. The waiter spilled a full glass of champagne on one of the guests at the table. Instead of comping this glass, he left it on the bill. Additionally, it was around 11 PM (we got seated at 9:30) and the waiter dropped the dessert menu. We were still reviewing the desserts when the restaurant decided to turn on the bright lights and close up before we had a chance to place the dessert order. We were still seated at the table chatting and being completely ignored by the staff. They were clearly trying to kick us out so the wait staff could attend their own NYE festivities. This is not what I would expect from a fancy restaurant on New Year's Eve. The food is good, however it is a shame that the service is so bad.

We walked in on a busy saturday night with no reservation and no reservations available. We asked if we can sit at the bar and they said the wait is an hour, 2 minutes later we were sitting at a booth. Customer service 10/10. The food was okay. We ordered the salmon nigiri which was so delicate. The yellowtail ceviche, crispy rice and salmon roll were okay. I sent back one of the cucumber drinks because I didn’t taste any alcohol and the flavors weren’t pairing well. The lychee martini, jonetsu margarita, blackberry smash and silent assassin were very good. I would return for drinks only. The bar area was a vibe.

Title: Disappointing and Unprofessional Manager Ruined Our Dining Experience
I regret to say our dining experience at this restaurant was utterly marred by the unprofessional behavior of the manager. Despite a pleasant encounter with our server, the discovery of a hair in our dish turned into a humiliating experience. The manager's rude comment, pointing out the hair and singling out my wife, by saying wow this is a long hair” and looking at my wife, was completely uncalled for. Even after addressing his behavior, his lack of apology or remorse was shocking. The server later apologized, confirming this wasn't an isolated incident. A restaurant of this caliber should reconsider employing such a disrespectful manager, as it greatly affects the otherwise enjoyable dining experience.

The restaurant was amazing, classy and elegant. Food was delicious HOWEVER, THIS REVIEW IS FOR THE VALET. After dinning we went outside to meet a friend for 15min. The valet guy stopped me and said we needed to get our car. I said we would be back in 15min, I would like to say hello to a friend. His responce: " this isn't public parking, if something happens to your car, insurance won't cover it" I'm not sure if he was threatening me but he was pretty aggressive and was annoyed. I was so upset that we pay $20 to dinner here for 2hrs and 15min was an issue. He was so rude, unprofessional even the guy who brought my car in was apologizing. I'm only waiting this review so the restaurant will be notified about this.

KOI in Los Angeles exceeded our expectations in every way possible. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with warm and friendly service. The staff was attentive and made sure we felt comfortable throughout our entire visit. The atmosphere was elegant and modern, creating a perfect setting for a memorable dining experience.
Now, let's talk about the sushi. The quality and presentation of the sushi at KOI were truly outstanding. Each piece was a work of art, beautifully crafted and bursting with fresh flavors. The chefs clearly have a passion for their craft, and it shines through in every bite. We tried a variety of rolls and sashimi, and each one was a delight to the palate.
What impressed us even more was the attention to detail and the creativity in the menu. KOI offers an extensive selection of unique and innovative sushi options that you won't find elsewhere. It's clear that they are committed to pushing the boundaries and introducing new flavors to their customers.
Overall, our first experience at KOI was nothing short of amazing. We left feeling satisfied, impressed, and already planning our next visit.

The valet guy was extremely rude.
Two ladies were leaving Koi. They had parked a few spots away from valet parking. We asked if they were leaving, they said yes. My friend started backing into the spot. A valet guy walks up to the parking spot and places two cones. I asked him what’s going on, can we not park here? Is this also considered valet parking? He points to a sign that states street sweeper hours and replies, “read the sign!”
I told him he didn’t have to be rude, I was simply asking a question. He responded with, “ well, there’s your answer”.
We decide to give it one more try because my friend was looking forward to dining here. We pulled up to the valet, tell the same guy we want to valet our car and he tells us to park it at the spot in front of him.
Why are we playing for valet if we have to park our car?
His attitude was nasty and turned us away from dining here. To the restaurant: please don’t let your staff get away with this type of behavior, it’s terrible for business.

Exceptionally refined, low-lighted restaurant that exudes class with friendly chefs and staff. The sushi was top-notch up there with the best displays of fine dining. siamo stati messi in una parte del ristorante buia e poco piacevole i piatti se pur con una buona materia prima erano molto pasticciati . gli accostamenti dei sapori davvero brutti dato che tutti i piatti venivano sovrastati con delle salse parecchio banali e nauseanti. in più i prezzi troppo cari per il cibo che ti danno

Koi Los Angeles: A Culinary Masterpiece!
I recently had the pleasure of dining at Koi Los Angeles, and I must say, it was an absolute delight! The moment I stepped through the doors, I was enveloped in an atmosphere of elegance and sophistication. From start to finish, my experience at Koi was nothing short of exceptional.
What's even more remarkable is that I owe this incredible culinary adventure to a fantastic recommendation by none other than Sean Hays. His impeccable taste and discerning palate led me to discover this hidden gem, and I am beyond grateful for his suggestion.
From the moment I perused the menu, I knew I was in for something special. The diverse selection of dishes showcased a harmonious blend of flavors and artful presentation. Every bite was a symphony of taste, texture, and innovation. The attentive staff guided me through the menu, offering insightful recommendations that perfectly complemented my preferences.
I had the pleasure of indulging in the signature dishes, each of which was a masterpiece in its own right. The Black Cod Miso was a revelation – tender, succulent, and bursting with umami flavors that danced on my palate. The Crispy Rice topped with delectable spicy tuna was a delightful play on textures, while the Yellowtail Carpaccio was a refreshing and exquisite start to my culinary journey.
The ambiance at Koi Los Angeles is simply enchanting. The warm lighting, modern decor, and soothing music created a welcoming atmosphere that set the stage for an unforgettable evening. Whether you're celebrating a special occasion or simply seeking a memorable dining experience, Koi Los Angeles is the perfect destination.
In conclusion, my visit to Koi Los Angeles was an extraordinary adventure, and I owe a heartfelt thank you to Sean Hays for his impeccable recommendation. This establishment is truly deserving of its five-star reputation, as it delivers not only exceptional cuisine but also an unforgettable journey for the senses. I wholeheartedly recommend Koi Los Angeles to anyone seeking a culinary experience that transcends the ordinary.
Thank you, Koi Los Angeles, for an evening of culinary enchantment and impeccable service. I eagerly await my next visit to savor more of your delectable offerings.
Sincerely,

Visited Koi on a Saturday night for dinner and drinks with my wife and friends. The atmosphere is very nice with big booths in the front room. Our server was excellent (I think his name was Brian). We had a bunch of laughs with him and he was very accommodating the entire evening. The food was great with plenty of options for everyone at the table. If you go early enough, there is plenty of street parking. Valet options are also available.

Absolutely horrible service, they don't honor their reservation times at all. You show up and they waste your time by not having tables available. What's the point of a reservation then. Manager was also rude and unhelpful and made it seem like a table being unavailable was our fault. On top of that sushi is mediocre at best with a snobby atmosphere.

I have been visiting this restaurant for last couple of years. Always had a great experience. But today June 14th, 2023 was probably the worst experience. I had made a 8pm reservation went there around 8:15, I was asked to wait for few minutes which turned out to be a 45 minute wait. After the 45 minute mark went to the reservation desk to ask about how much more time is it going to take but the girl at the desk didn’t even bother to look at my face even though I literally said “excuse me miss” for 5-6 times. Everyone around me could hear me perfectly fine except her. Clearly she doesn’t know how to respect the guests & doesn’t know how to do her job.
Never going back again!

Wow! Just wow! Everything we ate here tasted fantastic! The ambience was very pleasant not overly loud and it was so nice inside! We ordered the Creamy Shrimp Tempura, Edamame, Koi Crispy Rice (spicy tuna), spicy shrimp tempura roll, the sunfire roll, and lastly the Grilled Lamb chops. The drinks were also fantastic. As far as the food went I would rate it…
Creamy Shrimp Tempura- 5 🌟but definitely spicy.
Edamame- 5 🌟 not too salty perfectly seasoned.
Koi Crispy Rice- 5🌟 literally fantastic my favorite thing that i tasted
Spicy Shrimp Tempura Roll- 5🌟 so tasty so much flavor to something so simple!
Sunfire Roll- 4🌟 good but a lot going on in flavor
Grilled Lamb Chops- 4🌟 the flavors were super tasty but it’s nothing that completely blew me away. But it still was tasting delicious.
I will definitely be returning here! The experience was great. The ambiance was relaxing and a good dinner out. Our server was very attentive and was very helpful with the items on the menu!!

Terrible sushi that’s way overpriced for what it is. The unagi was cold, the tamago was soggy and way too sweet, the ginger tasted like it was mixed with sugar water, the wasabi was just green horseradish. Giving two stars vs one because the black cod was good.
I’m down to pay for good sushi. I’ll also eat cheap sushi at the right price. But it’s just silly to pay fancy prices for sushi no better than what you can find in a to-go box at the supermarket.

Mediocre and overpriced. Line cooks rather than sushi chefs make the sushi. The “signature” baked crab role is a glob of baked Mayo with no real flavor. Seared albacore with crunchy onions was drowned in ponzu. Service sub par. Someone who appeared to be in a management role asked “how is everything?” as he whizzed by. I responded “fine” and he said “great” as he kept going. Cool decor. Fine if you have low expectations.

Absolutely love the new space and vegan menu. Having frequented koi for years I was very intrigued to see the new space and ambiance. To me, it kept the feeling of quality while adding a tone of hip. The energy feels a bit more lively but still very comfortable to stay and enjoy a long dinner with friends.
Being a vegan, I have a limited amount of options in most non vegan restaurants, not at koi! The menu is phenomenal. There are tons of options and quite honestly one of the greatest vegan dishes I’ve ever had in the devil roll! I highly recommend for vegans and the rest of my party seemed very happy with their choices!

I’ve been to Koi restaurant two times the first one. I didn’t really remember what was my experience until I came again. They have really good food and not too many options because they just moved to a new place. The quality is really good. Everything is fresh. And I absolutely love it. The only reason for four stars it’s because I asked toothpick. And I was waiting 20 minutes for it.

It was the worst experience I had in LA for many years .
We had a reservation for 9:30 and the host make us wait for one hour and 20 minutes.
When. It wasn’t packed outside and we were on time , the manager Riki was very rude and used a disrespectful language.
I don’t understand how he mange the place with an attitude of a gangster.
We were 4 couples and had to leave and cancel our night .
Very bad!!!!!

Met some friends here Monday night and I didn't care for it at all. It looks like a maternity ward meets a high school cafeteria and has extremely unflattering lighting. It's so loud you have to shout over the rave music. How can
you have a dinner conversation like this?We had some problems with our server Corrina who made several mistakes and was never checked on us. We had to ask other employees for everything. Our dinner took forever. Items came out sporadically and we'd wait more than twenty or thirty minutes for each dish. I don't like that they come tableside to take your payment with a terminal you have to touch--during Covid! All around tacky from beginning to end. They seem overwhelmed but the restaurant was not busy. Why are they so slow? Will not be back. The old Koi was much better. Two stars for the helpful busboy.

I loved the old Koi. It was a classic and an L.A. landmark. It was dark, romantic and mysterious with excellent service and an "exclusive" zen vibe. The reborn restaurant is such an eyesore to look at it almost makes you feel so dizzy you don't feel like eating. It looks like a gender reveal party with nursery pink and powder blue booths. The teeny tables for these giant booths are only big enough for children, not grown adults, so maybe a nursery theme is what they're going for? All I know is this restaurant is a total design failure. The new credit card system is almost shady because you pay at the table but don't get a receipt or copy of the charges/bill. I have no idea what I just paid for. The waitress we had never looked up from her tablet when she took the order and never came back to check on us. The staff now seem like depressed robots instead of the fun, attentive, funny servers they used to have. The lighting is so loud, ostentatious and bright it gives you a headache. The music is not a good vibe. Also, who thinks neon orange and fuchsia goes well with baby diaper shades of pink and blue? Ugh. This place is bananas. The food takes way too long also. I don't know why they did this to my favorite old Koi, but this new restaurant will be gone before the year is over.

Excellent service! The staff was very attentive and on point. I really loved the lobster tacos and the Kobe pot stickers as shared plates. Their salmon nigiri-style sushi was fresh, with a clean taste-loved it. The creamy shrimp tempura was served hot and plentiful. As my first visit, I was very impressed with the selection of appetizers, small plated and sushi they offered. The place had great Asian fusion vibe. With drinks, appetizers, small plates, sushi, main courses and dessert, you’ll easily be looking at $200 per person. Today was the last day before their expansion. Will definitely be back to see how it will look.

Super impressed! I sometimes get a bit intimidated going to ultra trendy restaurants, but this wasn’t the least bit intimidating. The staff were friendly, and the service was top notch and the crowd was casual.
There was a lot to choose from on the menu and the waitress was great in explaining everything in detail and answered all questions. When one fish turned out too spicy, she even took it off the bill (only one bite was taken). Everything I had was delicious, though for my taste, the only problem was the Kiiro rolls were too lemony for my liking.
As such, there’s nothing at all to fault the actual restaurant with. The only issue I had is you’re more or less “forced” to pay $18 for valet. It’s crazy. Other than this, Koi is great. Decor, service and food are all fantastic. You must go if you live in, or are visiting, Los Angeles.

Great restaurant but didn’t love the experience of needing to wait for my friend to arrive before I could be seated, and then to be asked to stand (without seating) while waiting. There could have been a bit more courtesy and they had plenty of seating (and our table ready) to allow me to be seated for 5 minutes before my friend arrived.

What a meal. Everything was perfect start to finish. Really grateful to our server James for leading us in the right direction with every dish. Every recommendation was right on the money. Truly a delight all the way around. Salmon carpaccio (with baked crab hand rolls to soak up the leftover sauce) was out of this world good.

Amazing food as always, with great service from a very friendly team.
I loved the crispy rice and the popcorn filet mignon and the black cod.
We had to wait outside for few minutes when we arrived, other than this, every thing else was excellent.
The restaurant gets very loud late at night.

There is no way the reviews are legitimate, I don't remember eating at a Japanese restaurant this bad in years. Shame Google permits fake reviews.

Fantastic new Japanese and Asian fusion restaurant. Good interior ambience, tasty food and nice service. Salmon carpaccio was amazing, lamb chops was juicy. All ingredients are fresh.

This will be long but important.
Koi was my absolute favorite restaurant. I used to come once a week and bring lots of friends there.
Adrian the floor manager was always not very nice, but as food and stuff are amazing we ignored.
Today, I got the bill and I found out I was charged for yozu on my nigiri 12$. I also found out that I was charged for a sashimi I didn’t order (I didn’t notice we got it to the table as we ordered lots of food). As we ate the sashimi I decided not to be not fair and to pay for it although it was their fault, but for the 12 $ I asked them to take it out.
Adrian came, and told me in a very disrespectful tone “what’s your problem?” When explained he said he’s not taking the 12$ off, and that THEY DONT have to tell me they are going to charge me 12$ for yuzu.
So I told him ok, then please remove the sashimi I never ordered, I didn’t want to be annoying but if you’re so pls remove your mistake. He told me he’s not removing it as we ate it , even when I explained I had no idea it was on the table with all the food we ordered. He said “you’re paying for both and if not I’ll call the police “. Just like that in front of everyone. When I told him ok call the police there was more back and forth (he also screamed at the server which was amazing btw) he came to me threw the bill on the table and said loud again - here I took out the sashimi You’re not welcome here anymore, we know who you’re . Just like that, in front of 4 other tables. Me and my friend were never so humiliated in our lives. And as I said , this is not the first time I hear about him from friends. I have plenty of other stories but this is what happened to me. I’m there at least once a week spending 300$-1000$ each time with friends!!!!!! You should be ashamed this is your manager, especially when your servers are amazing and the food is great.
I do hope someone reads it and take care of it.

Service is good. The miso soup is too salty. Sushi are nice but a bit small. Braised short ribs are tasty. Ribeye bites are amazing.

Amazing vegan options here! Sexy vibes when you come in. Came here for a friend's birthday dinner, and was shocked they had a whole vegan menu... try the stir fry, brussels sprouts and garden cut rolls. Thank me later!!!
