Traditional sushi, Japanese entrees & eclectic fusion plates are served at this sleek, modern spot.
It’s a drive from where we are but it was worth it. We got the soft shelled crab appetizer, California rolls (with real crab), and two lunch specials.
The food is great, no surprise that a lot of people come here. The food tastes homemade even personalized (and it’s special that way). The serving is just right (made you feel full but not overwhelmingly full).
We’re definitely coming back!

Really quaint, but great quality Japanese cuisine restaurant nestled in the Lathrop area. Fantastic food and great service! Would highly recommend. Lovely modern atmosphere and seating arrangement. Large open tables for couples and a bar for dining solo or with colleagues. Has just the right touch of modern cues while being very professional. Dishes are portioned modestly, just the right amount. Plating is excellent with dishware that accentuates and provokes emphasis on the food itself. The authentic wasabi option on some dishes is quite a creative culinary experience.

If you pass through Lathrop, California on Interstate 5, I recommend stopping at this restaurant for sushi and sashimi and other Japanese dishes. The Hamachi (yellowtail) and otoro (tuna belly) were excellent. The sashimi was accompanied by fresh wasabi - loved it. Enjoyed the soft shelled crab, flying fish roe, and uni (sea urchin), too. Fresh uni from Santa Barbara. The shrimp and vegetable tempura were lightly breaded, hot, and crisp. We had two orders of shrimp tempura. The waiter John was fun to talk to. Lots of energy and lots of good recommendations. Excellent selection of beer and Sake. John recommended the Funaguchi Kikusui Sake which is un-pasteurized and undiluted. It was a perfect pairing with the sashimi. There were a few issues. The ginger slices were cut too big like the size of two of your fingers. Tables are close together. The restaurant is on the corner of a strip mall, so seating is a little tight. We wanted to chat with the owner, but he was preoccupied. The restaurant closed 20 minutes early, and they started putting chairs on top of the tables while we were still eating.

Even during COVID-19, Shawn does what he can to serve top-quality sushi. Whether it is takeout or dine outside, it is always amazing. Did not think to take photos today, but even though sushi was on paper plate, it was made up beautifully, and service was still amazing.
Update 06/24/23- Food and service are still amazing. Adding a picture of an off menu item. If you like sushi but also like a fusion of sweet and spicy, give Amici a try. The pictured item has mango mixed with a habanero sauce for the fusion on top. It is so tasty. Ask for the Amanda roll if you want to try it.

So blessed to have some of the BEST SUSHI EVER, so close to home! Sean, the owner, is always so welcoming to everyone and his food will NEVER DISAPPOINT! I love Amici Sushi. It is by far the best sushi and sashimi I have ever had. The service is always excellent. They have a large sake selection. Yes it is a little pricey but well worth it for the quality and portion sizes. I've never had the cooked dinners but my wife who doesn't like sushi says their dinner entrees are delicious.

I have a couple local sushi joints that I have picked out over the years for mainly their quality among other factors. If you eat sushi, you know quality means everything. I travel a handful of times a year. Whether it’s business or personal and I try to venture out to sushi bars/restaurants on my travels. I’ve been to quite a few over the years. Recently, I traveled to Lathrop, California for business. I found this place on Yelp just down the road from my hotel. I always check reviews before eating at a new sushi bar. This place had a pretty good rating 4 - 4.5 stars, so I figured I’d check it out. I sat at the sushi bar. The place was clean and had a very pleasant atmosphere. My sushi chef’s name was Shawn, whom I found to be the owner. We had a very nice conversation, which led me to asking questions about the history of his restaurant. They’ve been in business since 2013, and survived through Covid. I noticed there were 5 or 6 awards displayed proudly for being voted best sushi restaurant. When I mentioned it, Shawn spoke about his quality standards and how much it meant to him. Service at the restaurant was top notch! I ordered the Sashimi Moriawase, which is the chef’s choice of select cuts of sashimi. I was blown away by the quality of sashimi along with the preserved wasabi, which I had never had. It was so good I caught myself eating it off the chopsticks by itself. Who eats wasabi by itself? As I was walking out thinking of my local spots, and the places on my travels, and how Amici Sushi might just take the #1 position on that list. I returned a second time during that week and was just as satisfied when I left. If you like cheesecake, you have to try their Japanese cheesecake. I ordered strawberry and it was the most well balanced slice of cheesecake I’ve ever has. This was quite the dinning experience for me. If I ever make it back to this area, Amici Sushi will be the first thought on my mind.

This place rivals any sushi you can get in SF. We drive from Brentwood to eat here. It’s impeccably clean to start. The fish quality is phenomenal. You will never be disappointed. We get the pink orchid and Peyton rolls always. But it’s all amazing!

This place is “okay” but not “fine Japanese.” The techno music is awful and it feels like you are at a nightclub not some fine dining restaurant. Service is OK, but I needed to ask for water a couple of times.
The food was nothing like I am used to in Hawaii. The sesame chicken was not tasty at all. For the tempura, they give you once small tiny piece of shrimp, one onion, and some vegetables. The portions are very small.
I would not go back.

This is my favorite restaurant hands down. I have been coming here for years now, and I am always blown away by the quality. The owners are extremely nice people and take pride in what they do. The restaurant is very clean and has a nice atmosphere.
I have celiac disease and have to eat gluten free. There is no gluten free menu, but the variety is amazing (They have gluten free soy sauce as well). If you let them know about your allergy, they will take care of you. They even have gluten free tempura shrimp and fried crab. I went again last night, and they even started making a gluten free mochi cheesecake.

Philadelphia roll is amazing. A little pricy, but filling. Seriously, the roll was huge, about the size of a big burrito and is was delicious! The teriyaki chicken sauce was a little bland, but the chicken itself was cooked to perfection. I was charged $6 for soda, though. They do not have a fountain, just cans. Menu shows a price of $2, but i was charged $3 each. Not much variety for non-alcoholic beverages but they do have several imported beers and saki. Their California rolls are filled with actual crab meat.

Stopped by this restaurant because overall it had a high rating. We ordered several sushi maki rolls, and a Tofu dish. The service was ok, a little slow with only 1 other table in the place.
The food was bland. Nothing to brag about. Totally disappointed with our Spider roll. It tasted as though it had pork inside rather than crab which I'm still wondering about. But just overall bland tasting on all the food. Maybe the restaurant was just off. Also when ordering a bottle of beer there were 2 sizes and automatically the larger bottle was opened when we actually only wanted the smaller size so that's not too cool.

Best sushi we've had since moving to the Valley! There were a few vegan options or dishes that were made vegan (though not listed as such so you'll have to customize it properly), but every plate that we ordered was incredible! The salmon nigiri was thick and tasted amazing! The Peyton Roll is a real winner for cooked rolls and even the Veggie Fantasy Roll was really good. Lastly, we had some yaki udon dishes and the flavor was great! The only downside was that the lady who took our order was ever-so slightly cold to start the service with. She warmed up by the end of the meal. All in all, we will DEFINITELY go back again. (A tad on the pricey side, but you'll get what you pay for.)

I will never eat here again! I came out to visit from West Hollywood... my fiance is out here on business and we ate at this place on a Sunday and it was slow because only one person was taking the orders anyhow we talked to a male chef that said he was the owner and my fiance said we would be back on Tuesday and the chef could do a menu for us based on what we like and he agreed he was very nice.
But Tuesday we walked in there with my daughter and son inlaw when a woman I'm guess it was his wife approached our table and asked what did we want with attitude and a face that would make anyone uncomfortable. My fiance asked to speak to the chef and she replied I'm the chef what do you want... she is also a jealous person so if you look pretty do not go there... she was so rude I said no we are leaving. She was also saying that why are pretty women even going there just unbelievable 🙄 that's bad for business 😒 she has mental health issues with that jealousy she has going on. We spoke with her husband and he looked like he had been through this before, that crazy wife of his had him on check he looked nervous and like he didn't want to hear us out. 😬 seriously family issues. But I will never eat there again! I do not condone this type of behavior!

The food is fantastic! Sushi is delicious, teriyaki dishes for non sushi eaters is great. Appetizers, and sides are awesome. Fresh made miso soup, everything fresh and delicious! Service is always accommodating even when we've had larger parties as it is a smaller place. Servers are professional yet use humor, and the chefs are super appreciative and warm! This small size adds to the the atmosphere and feeling you get of everything being freshly prepared nothing I rushed because the restaurant isn't a huge busy machine!

I am a huge fan of sushi, and I must say this is one of my all-time favorite sushi places in the Central Valley. The menu offers a wide range of unique options and I had the pleasure of trying a few of them, they were all delicious and exceeded my expectations. The owner is very attentive, caring and knowledgeable about what he serves. He always makes sure to take the time to explain the menu and make recommendations based on your preferences.
I took my wife here one day after a long four-hour commute from the Bay Area and I must say it was definitely worth the stop. The food selection is great, with a wide range of options that cater to all tastes and preferences. The drink selection is also excellent, with a variety of options to choose from.
If you're looking for a great sushi place with attentive service and delicious food, this is the place to go.

I waited over 30 minutes for my to go order ,I ordered their fried crab that comes with a salad but was told they didn’t give salad with the to go Order it’s only served in the restaurant which is totally unheard of I will not be returning I paid the same price without a salad. Second of all my California rolls were quite messy looking for California rolls I will never ever come here again. Oh let’s not forget about ordering fried oysters that is on the menu I was told they could not fry oysters and offered it raw. When going to the counter your food is met with other people coming in to placing a order or picking up one your food is exposed breathing and talking from people No No No way will I return. 2 orders of California rolls and soft shell crab cost me just under 40.00 if I could give no stars I would

We had the Lathrop, Red Ocean and Peyton rolls. All three were unique, fresh and so full of flavor! Beyond the rolls, the service was attentive and kind. The restaurant was clean and had a beautiful ambiance. We are so happy to have found Amici Sushi!

Love this place. We get takeout about 2 or 3 times a month from here, and the quality is always on point. I'm a BIG fan of the Spider Lover and the Wakame.
I'd take negative reviews with a grain of salt. Especially from nitpicking customers who saw prices before they ordered, but ordered anyway and then complained about the cost.
(Just a note of interest: the California Roll isn't a "traditional" form of sushi. As well, its origins are disputed, as well as the ingredient list. So beware of people who make grandiose claims about their experience level.)

Our #1 sushi spot! This place has the best sushi in San Joaquin county and I will say anywhere in California! (We have gone to MANY sushi restaurants). We have had every single roll on the menu (my favorite is the Julie Roll or Forever Love) and not one roll that I’ve had do I second guess. The sashimi is always fresh and made to order. Of course that includes the freshest sushi rolls. Shawn (the owner) makes an effort to ALWAYS say hello and introduce himeself! This makes the experience personal and that much better! With a great ambiance, we always get excited to bring family and friends to check this place out. As long as this place stays open, we will be forever returning customers for years to come!

I have been eating sushi/sashimi for roughly twenty years across the states and internationally. Amici blew my mind. First up was the Miso soup which tasted 1000x different than any I have previously enjoyed - less salty and more savory. Up next, the hot house sake had a sweeter muted finish and the alcohol aftertaste never reared its head. The Spicy Tuna tacos were nothing short of superb - perfect for a first-timer to this cuisine - as the flavors blended into a flawless delight. I then tried a sashimi dish with pickled wasabi. The cuts came from high-quality fish served in generous portions, and presented beautifully. Sitting at the sushi bar, I was in the shadow of the three consecutive annual awards this establishment has earned for quality and they would earn a fourth from me if I gave awards.

Visited 4 years ago
It was my first time coming to this restaurant and I've been wanting to try this place since it had good reviews. I drove 30 mins from home just to try this local sushi place. Sad to say, I'm extremely disappointed. Here are my thoughts...
Service - Customer service was mediocre. I believe I was greeted by the owner/chef when I walked in. They only had one waiter so it seems like they're short staffed. I waited for a good 5-10 mins before being helped. Then waited for another 10 mins before the waiter can bring my check so I can pay for my order.
Incomplete Order - One of the items I ordered was a bento box (but they called it a combination plate) was supposed to come with rice, soup, and salad. They forgot to put the rice in the bag for my bento box and didn't double check.
Cost - I ordered 9 things and it costs about $134-135. It is actually more expensive than other places I've been to ordering similar food and it would have been under $100. I ordered the Salt & Pepper Soft Shell Crab appetizer and didn't know it was one small crab sliced in half and that costs $11, which was not worth it. So I looked at my receipt, I saw a $1 charge for take out. I didn't ask why there's such charge when I should've so that part was on me and can't blame anyone. As far as I'm aware, I haven't seen any sushi restaurants in Stockton or other places besides the bay area that would charge customers a fee for take out due to COVID. I personally don't agree with that surcharge because it's not fair to customers and I don't support this behavior. Had I known about this I would've reconsidered coming here.
Taste of Food - This is where I have some MAJOR red flags.
1) The cold foods and hot foods were put together in the same bag, which is wrong and it's a no no. You HAVE to keep them separate and never in the same bag. I had a bento box with sashimi and tempura that came with soup and salad. One bag had the sashimi, tempura, and miso soup put together in one bag. The hot soup changed the taste and temperature of the sashimi. I saw the tuna fish slice was partially cooked and I saw the box had watery liquid. Sashimi should be more on the dry side and there shouldn't be any liquid from the fish at all. Then when I took a bite, I can't get past that warm taste and had to spit it out. That piece of tuna was tossed out.
2) One of my other things I ordered was Spicy Garlic edamame. I think they used fresh garlic so the garlic was burnt and it gave a bitter taste. Their spicy level was way too spicy and I think they put too much.
3) I ordered 4 rolls and to my surprise, there was absolutely no flavor! The California Roll is a classic example and typically you can't go wrong ordering this but obviously it did go wrong. They used snow crab which gave me a weird taste. The cucumbers didn't seem fresh and the rice was rather dry so it makes me wonder if they put the right amount of rice vinegar or if its the type of rice they used the went wrong. But I definitely saw some gap in the center of the roll and it wasn't rolled and pressed tightly. I felt there was too much rice and the pieces were thick cut which I'm not too fond of.
To sum this up, this was the worst sushi I've had in my entire life. I am a sushi lover since middle/high school and over time I learned how traditional sushi making is prepared, what is used etc. That is how passionate I am when it comes to sushi. I am not looking for quantity but more of quality. And when I eat sushi, I would look at the sushi chef if they have the technique and skill when preparing fresh fish and making sushi rolls. I don't think I will return after this experience.
Please note, this is strictly my personal opinion and I would suggest that you try it out for yourself to determine it. Thank you.

For just a few dollars more (take out) you will get the best experience ever, great customer service and delicious food!
Dining in you will experience the same quality in service and food.
I hesitated leaving this review because I don't want my favorite restaurant bombarded, and I having to wait longer or looking for a parking space. But they deserve an A+ and more! The staff and management are great and the food is soooooo delicious! Fresh and visually appealing!
I hope and encourage them to expand to a larger location, and expand on their parking. Parking is the worst!

service is so bad, it took forever for me to get my food and it was cold and soggy

I always have a great time eating here. The fish they serve is top quality. If you're a sashimi eater you will love it. Though it is a bit pricey, it's absolutely worth every cent. You can pay 8$ for a roll covered in twelve different sauces any run of the mill sushi joint. You come here when you want to spoil yourself.

Horrible customer service, YOU NEED TO HIRE MORE PEOPLE. They have only one lady as waitress and hostess and she doesn’t have much customer service skills. I was waiting forever just to get her attention she saw me and didn’t pay no attention to me, totally ignored me. I was waiting to pick up an order and after 15 minutes of waiting she acknowledged me. Didn’t say sorry just gave me my check and said will be out shortly. I waited an hour for my order. They only seem to have one cook out back and 1 on the bar . Really disappointed.::::..I didn’t order much for them to take so long: it looked like they didn’t start my order until 15 minutes after arriving at the restaurant, when I had ordered it 30 minutes prior on the phone. Rude waitress / maybe owner.

I usually never write reviews but this place has really disappointed me and my family. We drive 1.5 hours from the Bay Area just for this sushi place as we were referred by a friend. Once we walked in we looked around for someone to greet us and seat us, a woman was sitting in the very back of the restaurant on her laptop while she was sitting she pointed at a table for us to sit as if she was doing us a favor. Next we were seated and a guy standing at the front kept staring without giving us the menu, upon receiving the menus we again waited 15 minutes just to place our order and that was only once we waved for someone. The owner came to take our order we told him that we want any roll you would recommend that has cooked fish and no other meat along with the teriyaki chicken roll, he then directed us to get the "Lathrop" roll which has crab and I told him we don't want any other kind of meat to have only fish he had assured us he'll do just that. We got our drinks then the woman comes to give us the glasses, and we kindly asked for straws after bringing the straws she looked straight at my sisters face with no reaction we said thank you and still no reply we were really thrown off by her. Then she brings part of our order which was the "Lathrop" roll and upon seeing the roll we saw there was crab and then I ask her what meat is in this roll, the first words that came out of this woman was "you order and don't know what you order". What kind of customer service is that, we all pause and look at her face that was very unnecessary of her to say she simply could have explained, then I say excuse me she then says the same thing, still after being disrespected we ask her to bring the guy that took our order she says no and THROWS the menu on our table and says read?!? This woman was just insane, we all get up and about to leave she then accuses us and says "you're leaving because you don't have money" which employee or owner says that to their customers?? The sad part is that she seemed like she was the owners wife. We went on making our way to the door to leave she runs in front of us locks the door and says she's going to call the police as if we did something wrong, we told her to call the police because there was nothing wrong we did, this woman cares about the money not customer satisfaction, she says you have to pay for the drinks we ordered 3 drinks 2 cans were opened and one was untouched after everything they put us through we still paid for the drinks the crazy part is that they charged us for ALL THE DRINKS. The whole time her husband did not come in front to handle the situation he was standing on the side observing the scene. This woman caused a whole scene In front of 2 of her other customers, she does not know how to run a business. LASTLY NO EMPLOYEE OR WORKER WAS WEARING A MASK OR GLOVES how is this place still operating is my question. Biggest disappointment of driving 1.5 hours to get customer service like this. I highly recommend to find a better nearby place nearby that cares for their customers. This business will go down if this women keeps her attitude. PLEASE AVOID GOING HERE

If i could give a 6th star i would. The fish has fantastic flavor without being overpowering. The rolls are very large and extra filling. The 2 I received ( Shawn + Lathrop) were suggested to me by Shawn according to receipt and he made me feel like family. The dipping sauce is really something special as well and adds to the savory/sweetness of the roll. I wouldn't hesitate to get take out sushi from these guys anytime.
Also had some hot saki while i waited. Keep killing it. Thank you.

I've eaten here several times, although I have only used their pick-up service so I can't speak for their dine-in experience, the sushi was pretty good but not astounding especially for the price. I would say it's one of the best sushi places in the near Lathrop.

An order to go on a long road trip was memorable as the best meal of the journey.

Presentation was fantastic. Service was poor! Three other tables were served prior to us when we had ordered well before them. We had to ask for more water, utensils, soy sauce, and wasabi. The food was not traditional Japanese. The Chef rolls were too large (three bites) unable to eat in one or even two bites (circumference and thickness of a Ding Dong).

Best sushi in San Joaquin area!!! Love their Chirachi bowl! The fishes are fresh and it comes with real wasabi and this is the 1st place to ever give me tuna belly in a Chirachi bowl! Definitely made the price worth it. Melt in your mouth sushi! Will return =)

Went here once and never again paid close to 80$ expecting quality got my simple avocado roll wrong charge me for my steam white rice didnt get it on my black list

Compared to bay area sushi places; the flavors were sub par, the rice was chewy, the onion was soggy. Wait time was longer than expected, too much rice not enough fish. Fish did not stand out in the rolls.

The sushi here is always really good. I like the lathrop roll but I just tried Red Ocean and it's so good! The lemon slices really add a nice twist to the flavor.

Really poor service. Walked in and was not acknowledged by any staff until we stood around for a while. Even the table of diners sitting nearby took notice of me and my gf standing there but staff did not. Finally after being seated it took forever just to get water and then back to being basically ignored even though the place was slow. After about twenty minutes since arrival and still no even one attempt to take our order, we just left.

My favorite sushi spot- beats out a lot of bay area sushi restaurants. The freshest fish, delicious rolls, and for the 20x+ I've been here, I've never been disappointed. Service can be a bit slow but it's worth the wait! The owners Shawn & Julie are awesome.

The best sushi place. Everything is handrolled and it all looks like a work of art. Mood of the restaurant was amazing! The mood was very peaceful. The rolls are huge and amazing! Will definitely be there again.
