Recommended making a reservation in advance. The food, drinks and service were great. The server were very attentive. We did the 7-set menus. For a smaller girlie, this set was one too many roll for me😅

Great quality of food. Ingredients are fresh and tasty. The handrolls are stuffed with chopped fish cubes rather than ground meat, which I love.
Premium handrolls are worth trying. The A5 wagyu beef is so fatty and delicious. Uni is fresh and sweet with no weird taste.
I also love that they have a wide selection of sides. And they are all delicious. Strongly recommend the edamame and furikake fries.
Service is great except that the server forgot about some of our orders. But it’s understandable, we are party of 8 and ordered a bunch of different rolls not sets. They served the missing rolls right away after we mentioned it. Water is filled in time. Payments were settled smoothly(split b/w 4 cards).
Parking is easier and right in front of the restaurant. They have outdoor and indoor seatings, which can accommodate a lot more people than the other locations.
Overall a nice experience. Would recommend this place and come back when in the area.

Food 5/5, we ordered 7 set since the server recommended for the first visit. We sat at the bar, the chef made the rolls and served it right away. She also made sure that we enjoyed one first and gave us some time in between then served the next. The food was so fresh, the portion was good. Definitely recommend.
The server was nice but he was pretty busy serving the whole restaurant by himself. The glass still has lipstick on. So I think they should be more careful about that.
But overall, we had a great experience.

I heard about this place many times before but never really have chance to go. This time we decided to give it a try and wanna confirm if they are worth all the compliments from my friends.
They open at 11:00am so we make reservation for 11:00am. This place is also under Kei Concept so I would expect their quality should be consistent with other places (The Vox Kitchen, The Alley, Nep/ Gem)
10/10 for Food quality. I ordered the 7-set, uni & toro roll, crispy rice tartare. Nothing to say about the quality. Super delicious and taste amazing! Uni is from Santa Barbara. So fresh! Dont forget to order Yuzu Kosho and Truffle Soy sauce. They will make your experience better.
9/10 for customer service. One minor thing made me take one point out. I’m allergic to Eel so I ask the waiter to let the chef know since I ordered the set menu and the last roll is unagi (eel). The waiter was so nice and he told the chef immediately. However, the chef forgot and still gave me the unagi roll. I was so full so my husband took it. Just a thing to improve but so far, my overall experience is very good.
I highly recommend this place and would come back for sure! Now it would be a must-go if I want rolls :)

People raved about this sushi restaurant, it was decent but I don't think I'd go back. The service was outstanding, the food was good, but the prices are expensive for what you get. IMHO, there are better sushi restaurants for the same $. You won't have a bad meal, it just left me wanting for more. The only negative about this place is the loud noise inside, it's difficult to have a conversation without yelling, which only adds to the noise.

My daughter and I had been looking for a good hand roll restaurant ever since J/Wata closed. ROL is everything we had hoped for. We had been to NEP, a sister restaurant to ROL, and it was so good I would basically eat every day and KEI Concepts restaurants if I could.
At ROL, the host was incredibly friendly and welcoming. Expect a bit of a wait if you come during busy times. We were there around 2pm on a Friday and it only took about 10 minutes to get seated. It would’ve been worth a much longer wait though!
Our server Kevin was exceptionally friendly and attentive. We each got the six-roll set, and shared the cucumber salad. The food was perfect—the nori was toasted to a crisp, the rice was warm and well seasoned, and the fillings had great flavor and texture. The scallop was our favorite. Six rolls is filling for two average-sized appetites. The chef was also lovely—she timed each roll nicely and everything was beautifully executed. I wanted to try the furikake fries, but it would’ve been too much! I also enjoyed the yuzu-guava spritz—a fantastic mocktail option if you’re looking for one.
I don’t often take time to leave reviews but ROL and NEP really wowed me. I recommend both!

Hands down the best sushi hand roll restaurant ever! We come here every weekend and the quality plus service is excellent and consistent every time. We brought many friends and family here and they love it just as much. They also have fun kids meals at $6. Highly recommend!

The hand rolls are special here, with the seaweed warm, toasty with a nice crunch. The seafood itself, while nothing exotic or special, is quality. Always good with the draft beer. My fav of the Kei concept restauy.

Big fan of quick hand rolls, watch out on the weekends and evenings, wait can get long so plan ahead and get on the waitlist ahead of time

Been here now 4 times this year. Never made a reservation always got in.
Food is spectacular, the wait staff makes sure to always check up on you. Make’s sure you eat your roll immediately to get full experience, don’t miss that toasty seaweed. Brought my kids friend here and she had Inari for the first time, it was an instant hit.
Only reason I we don’t come here more is there isn’t any local deals I’m aware of.

Didn't care too much for the female that was bouncing around btwn cleaning tables & making food. She had like a subtle attitude. But Hai was amazing & super attentive! Would definitely come back!

Just like the name says, this place specializes in rolls. These are not regular sushi rolls, but hand rolls. They're not very artfully or skillfully made but they taste fine. I don't think it's a terribly great value, but it's fine for what it is.

My daughter works here as the kitchen manager and invited us and now we can’t stay away. The food here is always fresh, tasty, and filling! We recommend the 5 set as it has a variety of freshly rolled sushi that is crunchy and should be consumed within 30 seconds to maintain the freshness of the roll. Their truffle fries are to die for!

The hand rolls here are delicious, and our server gave some really sound recommendations. She was very kind and not gatekeepy like so many can be for first-timers like we were.
The tartare crispy rice was a great appetizer to enjoy, but wait, there’s more!
The special truffle lobster tail handroll smacked my cheeks here and back to Newport. Mama, look at that handroll chef go!
For real, incredible experience, and I loved the Christmas music and festive spirit in the space. Super great first experience and will definitely come back. Gratata

Smaller location compared to the one in Fountain Valley. Definitely can feel the energetic vibe w people talking and moving about. Rol specializes in hand rolls, but they also offer Japanese appetizers, Donburi, desserts and drinks.
We enjoyed everything we ordered especially the Spicy Tuna, Salmon, and Scallop with a cream based sauce w roe and scallions. The Albacore was mixed with fried onions, scallions and creamy sauce which was a little too much onion for us. We also ordered California and Shrimp Tempura Rolls . Expect to order 4-6 rolls if you're moderately hungry.
A bit pricey, but would come back again!

10.09.23 one of those let's find a place to eat via Yelp and Google. Yummy and fresh hand rolls plus really really good edamame.
Service was good. It's a pretty tight setting, i.e., the "hand roll bar" is literally right smack by the door lol. It's cool though. I'd go back for the edamame and will try the bowl options next time.

hands down, THE BEST experience i ever had at a restaurant! i visited back in august and haven't been able to sit down to write a review until now, but everything was amazingggg. literally the moment we arrived, the service was A1! the dark ambiance and music selection was great! i felt like i was at a very chill club.
we came around 8:45pm without reservations and was seated immediately. i believe our server's name was giovanni; he was the absolute best! he explained the menu in great detail from top to bottom and even influenced our decisions (in a good way!). he recommended the yuzu kosho sauce and truffle soy sauce. both were amazing and i'm still thinking about them!
for the appetizer, we ordered the furikake fries and the amount was great for the price! they were very thin and small, but we didn't mind! the spicy mayo sauce it came with was also very light and yummy.
i got the shrimp inari, lobser inari, crab hand roll, classic california hand roll, shrimp hand roll, and shrimp tempura hand roll (if i remember correctly). all of them were very good, but my least favorite was the crab. it was a little fishy for me, but that just shows how fresh it is! i don't eat raw sushi, so i was really glad they offered cooked options. i'm from the east coast and i wasn't able to find any hand roll places that offer many cooked options like rol hand roll bar >:(. anyways, my absolute favorite dish of the night was shrimp inari!
they recommend to eat the hand rolls within 10-15 seconds of them being served and the rolls came out super fast so i felt like i had to eat them as soon as they came LOL so if you're looking for a delicious and quick dinner, this is the place to go!
i've been to other kei concepts establishments and i would say this is my favorite so far! i definitely recommend to everyone if they are visiting the area! i can't wait to come back already!

The food was great. I recommend the garlic and chili edamame. I think the yellowtail handroll was my favorite. I wouldn't recommend the yuzu dipping sauce as it was very citrusy and overpowered the flavor of the fish. The hojicha pudding dessert was very yummy. I'd go again.

Definitely the best hand roll place in OC. I'm glad this place exists cuz this is so much closer than trying to go to Kazu all the way in Santa Monica. Although parking here is almost as tricky. Sometimes there can be a very long wait here, definitely try to make a reservation ahead of time. I personally like to sit at the bar, they make it right in front of you and you get it right away. They definitely taste the best eaten IMMEDIATELY, even 60 seconds later the nori loses a bit of its crunch! I usually just go with the preset menu. Don't be fooled, these are filling! 5 of them is a lot!

We had the lunch special. It was surprisingly filling. I don't usually order salmon, I prefer tuna, but the special was nice. Service was pretty quick. They almost forgot the edamame that's supposed to come with the special, but remembered just as we started our main. Of all the things, it was the salt on the edamame that I liked most, it was not regular table salt or kosher salt, but rather some kind of sea salt which was flaky and mild, complementing the edamame well. Nice touch. The sidewalk outside had a funny smell, needs to be deodorized somehow.

I absolutely love ordering to-go from ROL Hand Roll Bar, and my favorite is their box with three rolls (shrimp, spicy tuna, and crab) accompanied by a refreshing cucumber salad.
The spicy tuna roll is a definite standout, thanks to the crispy onions sprinkled on top, adding an exciting crunch to each bite. The rolls are served with two delicious dipping sauces on the side, enhancing the flavors and providing a delightful contrast.
The cucumber salad deserves special mention as well. The cucumbers are thinly sliced and immersed in a flavorful sauce, with a sprinkling of sesame on top. It's a refreshing accompaniment that perfectly complements the rolls.
Parking can be challenging during lunch time because they share the lot with other restaurant establishment in the center. I recommend placing the order online and give them a few extra minutes before picking up as I always find myself waiting upon arriving for my orders.

Friendly service and excellent hand rolls! We like this place more than Kazu Nori (I've been to the Downtown and Marina Del Rey locations). Everything tasted fresh and the portions were perfect. I really hate that we actually gave this place our money. The service, especially the hostess was very pretentious and rude. The food was ok. But the overall experience just made it so we started to nit pick everything. I left a bigger tip then I should have. But mainly because ill never comeback to this place when there are plenty of other amazing places to eat with much better service

I stepped by for a take out. They handled the menu for looking outside because I had my dog, so we asked the menu for a take out. Knowing that after everyone chooses what they want we were told we could not put the order for take out.
You had one job. To not mention they made sure to say they don't accept dogs when the dog was not coming in but at the door. Very bad service.

I was gonna try your sushi spot for the first time, and I honestly did not see anything that said you needed reservations. So, I was not able to be seated, I came hungry and this was just pitiful that I was not able to eat here. I didn't know that places like this needed to be told how many people were only allowed. I recently visited this hand ROL and had an outstanding experience. The service was phenomenal, and our server Brian was a significant part of that. He was attentive and friendly and made great recommendations throughout our meal. He seemed to have a genuine passion for the food and made sure that our dining experience was nothing short of amazing.
The hand rolls were delicious, and the ingredients were incredibly fresh. We tried a variety of rolls, and each one was expertly crafted and bursting with flavor. The presentation of the rolls was also beautiful and added to the overall experience.
The restaurant had a great atmosphere, and the staff seemed genuinely happy to work there. The attention to detail in everything from the food to the decor was evident and added to the overall experience.
I highly recommend this hand-roll restaurant to anyone looking for a great dining experience. The food, service, and atmosphere were all outstanding, and I couldn't wait to return. Thanks again to Brian and the rest of the staff for making our visit so memorable!

This place left a lot to be desired. There is only bar seating and the wooden stools were extremely uncomfortable, but this goes along with them not wanting you to stay long. Hands down the ugliest sushi bar I've ever sat at. They do not display the fish they serve you. Our waiter rushed us the whole time, "are you done yet, do you want to order more? non-stop. Trying to clear our seats fast for the next victim. The whole gimic is that the rolls taste best within 15 seconds of being placed in front of you or they might not be crunchy. More like an appetizer bar. After our $132-$152 + tip meal, we had to stop at Carl's Jr for burgers. Do not come here if you are actually hungry.

The service provided by the server Matt was excellent. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I was hoping to like this place, but the prices are just exorbitant. The hand rolls are small (3 bites) and start at $5 a piece. As other reviews have stated, they are nothing special.
What I found especially appalling was the miso soup. For $3.50, you receive a lukewarm 4 oz teacup of instant miso. I have had enough miso in my life to tell if its made from paste and with fresh tofu — this was without a doubt made from a $0.50 pouch of miso powder and dried tofu. Very disappointing in both quantity and quality.
Overall I was really looking forwards to the food here but the prices are unrealistic for the amount of food provided and the quality of the food.

Damian D was the absolute best and the reason that my first visit at this restaurant was impeccable. He recommended amazing drinks. We got the red ryu and hannya one along with three sets of seven rolls for three people total. This is the cutest date spot in the world, and I would pray to be seated in his section because the waters were always filled, his timing was spectacular, and the team work that he shows with others is amazing. Please remember to give him a shout out for service that is unparalleled, and I cannot wait to come back.
For food, be aware that the yellow Shishito peppers are extra spicy and that they have really cute bday cheesecakes for birthdays and are so respectful for asking if you prefer singing or no singing. My favorite was the salmon, my sister’s favorite is always the scallops or Toro and her boyfriend’s favorite is the scallop as well!

I really enjoyed the place. Cocktails were interesting and delicious. Hand rolls were also the same. The fish and premium ingredients (like truffle soy sauce) made this a high level hand roll spot. More parking in the back so don't think there isn't any parking. Make reservations because it's a small intimate spot. Next time, I'll try to sit at the bar. Will be coming back. A must try if you like hand rolls. They are a bit smaller than most places but they are FRESH, it's recommended that you take your first bite within 10 seconds of the roll being delivered to your table. They bring you one roll at a time to maintain the freshness

As you walk up to this restaurant you'll hear music and chatter happening as this place is usually always busy esp for dinner. You enter through these 2 huge doors and you see a chef preping and making hand rolls and the bartender mixing yummy drinks... then you'll see the staff and you'll be greated with a friendly and warm hello. Depending you'll either be seated or write your name down. At this point If you're seated and ready to dine then I'd recommend you ask them about how it works and what to get. First the drinks... yes all the alchole tastes great!! 2nd pick out which meal you'll get. 3rdthe sauces.... ooo so yummy! Everything you order will taste awesome. The roles don't look like much but they taste amazing! All roles are made fresh... the rice is warm, the seaweed is crispy, and the fish ooo tastes superb! You get 1 role at a time. Take your time and enjoy the taste! Over all an amazing hand rol spot!!!

Waited over an hr just to get seated. Joined the wait list and our name got called. Once arrived, the but host continously told us to wait 10-15 min multiple times. My party ended up waiting for a total of 2 hrs. The fish tastes fishy and not fresh. The pieces of fish are chopped up but if you eat the fish without rice you can tell by the texture and smell.

Pretty good, but KazuNori is better. They like to use fried garlic in the rolls here and it mostly works. My friend said his unagi roll with garlic was too weird. It also costs more than KazuNori, which is weird since LA is usually more expensive.

Decent parking in shopping mall right in front . Large iron door at entry slams closed, so either guide it closed or be ready for some noise. You only have 1.5 hours to eat before the next reservation will be seated at your table, so reservations are a must. Architectural interior, with a very cool bar. Food is incredible. There is not a single bad thing on the menu. Drinks are exotic, delicious and hand crafted. Very expensive meal. Expect to pay $200 for three people if everyone is ordering drinks, apps and a main course of hand rolled sushi.

Outwardly, this place appears like you're typical fad restaurant. Something you'd see on social media that's all presentation with no substance. After eating here a few times, I can definitely say the quality is there. The handrolls are well seasoned and made quickly with care. The cocktails are creative and delicious, eye pleasing to everyone. I can definitely say this is worthy of the praise and popularity it received.

An over priced place thats not worth the money. The fish and meat served have a sweet seasoning that ruins the flavor of the fish served in the hand rolls. The place is also very noisey at the time due to a large party in the back.

We arrived a little early, but got seated at the bar right by the entrance. The bar has hooks to hang your purse if needed, which is always a plus when seating is a bit tight. Once seated, they grabbed our drink order while we browsed the menu.
We decided to share the 7-set. The 7-set is comprised of salmon, scallop, spicy tuna crunch, crab, toro, yellowtail and unagi. For best results, they advise to eat each roll within 15 seconds for max experience: crisp seaweed coupled with warm rice and fresh ingredients. With that note, the dining momentum felt rushed since I was trying to take photos, eat within the timeframe and savor while each hand roll was delivered.
Boyfriend isn't huge on sushi, so he decided to get the Unagi bowl and a miso soup for his fill. There's also a free miso soup if you check in with Yelp. The unagi bowl comes with sides (pickled ginger, radish, cucumber) and a yuzu kosho dipping sauce, which pairs well with any of the rolls if you love citrus. To round out my meal, I finished with the crispy rice tartare.
Overall, expect small portions with big flavor, but you're paying for ambiance and quality ingredients.

By far the best hand rolls in HB.
I've eaten at sushi bars all across the globe, and I highly recommend this place to any one that's a fan of hand rolls.
Small upscale location with great customer service , recommendations, and delicious tastes.

The service was amazing, beyond that I was not impressed with the food. The rolls are too small, they lack flavor and texture. I would discourage my friends and family from wasting their time and money. I don't understand what the hype is about. Don't Go!

Excellent service and cocktails. The hand rolls were good but not to the same quality as Kazunori. The salmon roll lacked flavor and the crab roll had an odd fishy taste. The six roll set ends with toro, which was an odd choice as it’s much lighter in flavor and should be served earlier in the set before you reach the richer flavored rolls. Overall it was good, but not my first choice for hand rolls.

Great spot. Just like tekka bar in Vegas. Good concept. Price a is a bit up there. But still worth. Would be good good order pc of oysters vs only half . But still Great. Definitely coming back.

We liked each item in the set. Everything tasted fresh and light and well seasoned. Recommend the set with 7 rolls!
Good service. Soy sauce was yummy too.

Service gets all the stars. Nothing bad service-wise. Just simply not impressed to be respectfully honest. Rolls are tiny. Nothing that would make me return. Rolls need that something special. Lacking that extra something that sets you apart from the rest.

ROL had me almost ROL(LING) out the door because I ate too much.
One of my new favorite spots to eat. Craving some sushi, with warm rice (sorta like Sugarfish) BUT all hand rolls - which was something that made me thing twice about going because I usually never order hand rolls... However, I am glad I came.
It's pretty easy how to order - there are set sets on the menu. 5,6 or 7 set where you can also interchange for example, if you don't like yellowtail you can trade it for double of anything already in your set. This last visit I did the 5 set and added 2 a la carte hand rolls.
The a la carte hand rolls I ordered and are SO WORTH the splurge were:
- albacore
- Lobster Truffle (Premium section)
We have always sat at the bar, it has the most action and excitement. I also love seeing how they make each hand roll and the drinks are amazing.
Hands down a great place to go for good quality fish. Service is great too!

As someone who prefers simple sushi and loves hand rolls, this was really good. Everything was good quality and tasted fresh and the service was good (nothing over the top of great but certainly solid). Everything served including the ice water was honestly at perfect temperature. I got the 6 handroll set and loved everything except for the scallops, but scallops aren't usually my favorite, so traded with my sister 🤪. We shared the garlic edamame and cucumber salad and had a miso soup each and I would say they were also good but not great. The toro handroll was really good, but the "spicy tuna crunch" not so much. Would probably be better without the fried onions as they tasted a little burnt and over bearing.
My main hesitation with this place is that it was really hard to get a reservation as they don't seat more than couples I believe at the tables. So the restaurant was essentially empty but we couldn't have a table. I also think they work hard to make it feel like a luxury dining experience, but it just felt pretentious to me, and that really could be a me problem.
Overall solid handrolls and I would return for a fun night out or get takeout, but not my first choice overall.

Rol hand roll bar is easily one of my favorite restaurants in OC.
First and foremost, do not compare ROL to KazuNori in Los Angeles. Rol is more contemporary than Kazu, who is more traditional. ROL is also closer to home for me because I despise driving these days. It does not get any better by raising gas costs.
There are set menus as well as a la carte options. If you're visiting for the first time, I recommend trying a little bit of everything from the set menu. If you're like me and have been coming here for a while, you've probably developed certain favorites and order a la carte. They also have some nice handrolls that are worth checking out.
Cocktails: the red Ryu (tequila, dragon fruit, strawberry, lime) is highly recommended. Inquire about the Yuzu sour if Chris and/or Keeler is around. This is no longer on their menu, but it was my all-time favorite summer drink.
Staff: I'd say the one thing that consistently impresses me about the restaurants under Kei umbrella is their customer service. Extremely pleasant, informed, and welcoming. Keeler, their manager, is also one of my favorites. Greets us with a polite and engaging greeting. If he's present, I'm never afraid to eat alone.
Come here and check it out if you haven't already. Don't be afraid to ask questions. Someone is always ready to help you through the menu if you're intimidated. Overall, I love it here and I'm positive you will too.
Tip: get the truffle soy sauce and yuzu kosho sauce. It will give the rolls an extra umami flavor!

Rol is unbelievable, the quality of the food and staff is unparalleled! Can’t wait to go back.
Recommend the Salmon Rol and Spicy Tuna Rol. Plan for 5-8 roll per person

This place is one of the better handroll places. Their stuff is pretty good. You can order a la carte and just pick and choose as you go. You can either sit at the 12 seater high rise booth/tables in front of the chefs where they make the drinks and sushi or regular tables. I definitely chose the booth. They also have the omakase sets, which is what I got via 6 pcs vs the 5 pcs set. They also have signature sauces (optional) you can add for extra and they give plenty of it as well. Overall the vibe of this place is nice. A great place for your get togethers with friends or any occasion. When it’s packed it can be packed, so be prepared to wait outside. If you don’t want to drive all the way to LA for some great hand rolls, stop by at this place.

Really amazing new place. Each roll was delicious. The salmon crunch roll was the best one I had. The preset options are good. The edamame, fries and crispy rice with salmon appetizers were all amazing options. We got in the wait-list and had to wait 1.5 hours to be seated since it is a relatively small place but it was worth it. all the ingredients taste so fresh
