My mom and I went to it this place yesterday (1/2/25) and unfortunately we had a bad experience. We had the calamari that tasted undercooked as it was rubbery and had a pale color on it. The sushi/appetizers were bland and had no taste whatsoever. Spent almost 80 dollars on AYCE for two people for dinner time. Do not waste your money coming here!

I visited here today, and the server was explaining very nice and carefully to us if we understood everything. Even though the food took a bit of a time to serve, it was still delicious and was perfectly my type. But, I noticed one thing. There was a group of people right next to our table, and they were being quite rude to her as soon as they entered, and I felt bad for the exact same server. But, except that, everything was nice and the place looked fascinating. I’m definitely willing to visit here once again.

Pretty decent sushi spot. Was it exceptional? No, but it wasn't bad either. It's very middle of the road especially for ayce sushi. A lot of their rolls are pretty basic so if you're in for the roll it's a good deal but for the Nigiri not so much. Quality is fine but definitely are better places for nigiri. Overall good, not a bad place of you want a casual and not too expensive sushi meal

This place was very very meh. We drove up from San Diego to try this place out seeing that they had a large selection of non-rice sushi options on an Instagram post (that should’ve been my first warning). The place is in a strange industrial area and tucked away, very unassuming. Lots of transient folks in the surrounding area and asleep in the neighboring parking structure.

We parked and walked in and found a small sushi bar with a very traditional feel. We were seated politely and got to work making our sushi selections. They had a number of “speciality” choices with limitations - those were truly outstanding (Raw Shrimp, Scallops, Ikura and an omakase grade fish). Everything else was okay, at best. Most of the things we ordered lacked any flavor or were completely masked under an overage of sauce or cream. The only other positive of note was the fish to rice ratio in the nigiri and hand rolls - both were perfect, small amounts of rice and healthy portions of fish.

The service was quite good and pleasant. Despite some lousy food options, the waitress was kind, efficient and accommodating.

It is highly unlikely we’d be back, especially when Sushi Damu is less than 10 minutes away. But we’re glad we tried it out and addressed our curiosity.

Their rice ratio is very small! So more fish than rice! We got the AYCE option on weekend night, I think $38 ish per person. We like the bluefin tuna, scallop, salmon , bay scallop nigiri. They also come with appetizers such as the green mussels, tempura, salad, and more.

Service is friendly and they refill our water.

ATTN: THIS PLACE DESERVES YOUR BUSINESS!!!!

The fish is so fresh and buttery soft. The Gyoza was SO DELICIOUS and not just hard as a battered and fried rock, like it is in other restaurants. The fried food comes out INSTANTLY from the fryer from the kitchen or behind the sushi counter straight to your table within minutes. The sushi chef is quick, and the staff are kind.

My friend had just arrived for a visit and we needed a late night food place. Luckily we arrived by 9:15pm. We got 4 orders of Veggie Tempura, the Monster Roll, 2 unagi rolls, a shrimp roll, a salmon roll, a few hand rolls, and Gyoza.

***NOTE ABOUT HOURS: They're open until 11pm; but it seems like if there's no customers after 10pm, they might close early.***

I went there because they advertised all you can eat sushi. Their roles are all filler with that fake crabmeat stuff. I think you do better ordering their appetizers. I didn't order their baked rolls, but they looked good. Food looks appealing, but really just average sushi.

Dont be fooled by their instagram. As a degenerate college student that will eat anything, i hated the food here. the food had a strong fishy taste and was very hard to eat. The fish they used did not taste fresh other than the salmon which was ok. I had to swallow the nigiri whole to eat them and avoid paying the extra fee for wasting food. The only food that was okay was the appetizers which were still lackluster. The rolls were also stuffed to make you full and had very little fish in them. Ive had better experiences with gas station sushi than i had here today.

No AC during a heat wave. So they offered free soda. I feel bad for the workers running around or chef cooking sushi. I came for the happy hour 24.99 special to find out it’s only rolls. They had another for 33.99 I just ended up going with bc I don’t really eat rolls. I wanted to try the nigiri. I also wanted to try the large scallops, ikura as well as blue fin. Turns out those are only available for dinner. I was already there so I just tried it. I typically don’t get rolls but I love the Philly roll even though it’s not Traditional only bc I love cream cheese. They didn’t have it. They had another with cream cheese with mango. Not b ad but they put a mango sauce or sort across the top and it was way too sweet like it should go on a dessert not a roll. I did the burrito bc it was filled with fish but it was so hefty and drenched in sauce. Glad I didn’t get anymore rolls. I did the cucumber salad and nothing special. Not even sesame seeds or any garnish leaving it beyond basic. Thick big cucumber slices. The bay scallop if got in my sushi set was so small. Literally there was maybe two you could see. So thin. I put 4 raw shrimp and received two. I find this common at most sushi places though. They don’t get the counts right. I could always order more. The butter shrimp was a better flavor. The YT was better than the tuna or any of the others. I’m glad I tried it but I wouldn’t come again. Oh, I also ordered hot food and the ponzu tastes so watered down. Too much batter and under cooked veggies. I thought they couldn’t go wrong there but I did not take more an a bit of each. The mussels super basic watery no flavor. also the server gave me my mussels and called it oysters

When we came to the location we were waiting outside for our friend and the server actually came outside and told us to wait inside because it is so hot. The greet and welcome was already off to a great start!

The location inside is small but it has a cozy vibe.

When we sat down she made sure we understood the policies so we would not get overcharged.

I think the menu looks amazing, the only opportunity I see is that it can be hard locating the items on the order menu. Maybe it would be easier if it was in alphabetical order it would be easier.

FOOD:

I apologize as I did not take pictures of the food :/ we were enjoying the food and company haha

Tempura Appetizer:
This was FRESH. The items in the tempura were cooked nicely and the batter was nice and light.

Crab Salad:
The imitation crab with the miso dressing go well together and the imitation crab was prepped well so it doesn't feel like it is imitation.

Baked Salmon Roll:
Usually when sauce is on a roll it is overly sweet and just overpowering but this roll did well highlighting the salmon!

Spider Roll:
Again a nice balance of flavor. Savory and delicious!

Mango and Salmon Roll:
The mango flavor with the salmon goes well. I am just not a fan of cream cheese in sushi at all, but it's okay.

Baked Scallop Roll:
Also a great balance of flavors.

Samurai Roll:
A little too much citrus on these. Still tasty.

Honeymoon Roll:
This was good.

Ninja Roll:
The sizes of the cuts were humongous. The ends could be smaller as it almost felt like eating half a bun.

Costa Mesa Roll:
This roll was very sweet. The onion was a bit much, but not bad for me because I love onions.

Salmon Skin Hand Roll:
This was good, the salmon skin was nice and crunchy. I think maybe a little seasoning would be good. I think right now it has just some salt which is a good start.

Sushi Rice:
I saw mention of rice seasoning in a review but the rice we had did not have any seasoning on it specifically.

Rice Ratios:
The rice ratios were good and better than most places.

Overall I think this place was good. I think it is a solid place for AYCE Sushi.
The service was great from beginning to end.
The food was good, but nothing that was life changing or innovative.
The food for the most part was balanced in sweetness and other flavors. A solid 4/5.

I tried this place due to IG reels about their generous fish to rice ratio. However this is ONLY true if you order Nigiri. The rolls are humongous with rice. We saw those rolls from nearby tables so we steered clear of them and stuck to nigiri only. Not sure if it's because of that or not, but it took a mighty long time (like 20 mins) between each order for the food to come out. My guess is this is too give your stomach enough time to register you're full and you can't eat as much. However, when my friends ordered the last round, the food came out in less than 5 mins (probably so we can leave quickly)??? The quality is alright I guess for AYCE. Other than the big scallop sushi (which you are limited to one order), nothing is memorable. The place is small, crowded, no frills on the atmosphere. If you come here for lunch happy hour, I think it's a good deal. But for their regular price, there are many other options that I think more worth it

I recently tried Koyi Sushi AYCE (All you can eat) after seeing a random influencer’s post regarding its happy hour, and it did not disappoint! Superb food.

Before going, I checked all info on its website but didn't find any Happy Hour mentioned so I reached out to the restaurant and got the confirmation that Happy Hour is available from 12 PM to 4 PM at the price of **$24.95 per person everyday. The Happy Hour menu offers all kinds of rolls (with rice) while the regular lunch menu is priced at $33.95, which includes not only rolls, but also appetizers, sashimi (no rice), and salads. Dinner is priced at $38.95.
* *Happy Hour $24.99 on blue menu should be a printing error. ( Cross checked with my receipt that $24.95 per person was charged.)

Our group of five decided to try almost everything on menu. Each roll dish served 5 or 8 pieces, and the rice portions were reasonable so we probably ordered 3 rounds. The sashimi on rolls was super fresh, and the scallops were so delicious that we ordered them twice. The tempura one was quite special. There was also a refreshing mango and salmon roll combination that I’d never tried before. The special rolls had creative names and unique flavors. Overall, we really enjoyed everything, and we were too full to have dinner!

Extensive & delicious selections, great service and the value for money was excellent. I’ll definitely come back for another round!

Just a heads up: if you have leftover more than 2 pieces, you’ll be charged extra, so remember to read everything on menu and just order enough food you can finish.

The all you can eat Sushie was bad. Of all the dif variety that we got, not one I could say, “wow this is good”, it was either eatable or terrible! The fish didn’t look fresh. It had too much Philadelphia cheese, too breaded, too much sauce; making the taste off. We were all gagging at the middle trying to finish before they charge us for every roll not eaten, we only got to round 1 of 3. Not authentic at all…
But… the appetizers were good, and the service was good.

Visited 8 months ago

Sushi Experience №46

Service is good. They are all kind.
But the rolls are not good. Came here cause I saw it on a reel… but no thanks.
It was very hard to finish them, as I kept gagging. We did one round, of the three allowed, as we couldn’t even finish ours. We had to force it down due to the charge they have if you leave anything behind.
They are filled with cream cheese or a lot of crabmeat (imitation). But there was no WOWness to it. Even if it’s “all you can eat”. Their fish quality was lacking. Not sure what I excepted. Im sure a lot of people might like these types of rolls but I prefer more authentic. Social media really scammed me into going…

Their appetizers were good, that’s about it.

Edit: we got sick from it. Bloated. And horrible stomach cramps.

AYCE review: Keep in mind their only parameters are 3 round limit and premium nigiri ("raw" shrimp, ikura, bluefin tuna, scallop) is 2pp total.

Service |3.5/5|
Moderate wait for a smaller restaurant with about 50ish seats inside including 10 at the bar. Depending on how busy they are, you will still need to put your name down for the bar. You write your name on their whiteboard on the wall. I think this could be improved with a Yelp waitlist or something that can give confirmation or an estimate based on # of parties ahead.

My wait to be seated: 45 minutes for 2 on Friday at 7-8pm
My wait for the 1st round: 25 minutes for just nigiris.

Servers are pretty attentive with waters and picking up first round AYCE orders. However, alert your server if your sushi count doesn't match what you ordered. We ordered 18 salmon and 8 yellowtail nigiri and got the same number of yellowtail as salmon. By the time we alerted the server, she said it would take awhile to fulfill the error because chefs were backed up with orders. Not sure if it was because they needed our table to seat the people waiting at 10pm who conveniently needed our table, but I understand needing to keep things moving for a smaller establishment.

Food | 4/5 |
I'm sure you're visiting because of their reviews of great fish to rice ratios. This is true. Their rice portions were so comically small, I (almost) felt bad. Keep in mind your 3 round limit so order intelligently!
Their premium raw shrimp nigiri is not amaebi. I'm not sure what it is... kind of like cooked amaebi but not quite cooked shrimp? Salmon was my favorite. Yellowtail was meh. Eel was ok. Handrolls are not like the ones advertised on the laminated menu so their salmon HR is a spicy salmon HR. All HRs are spicy versions that come with cucumber juliennes.

Ambiance |3.5/5|
Pretty average. Compared to nearby AYCE restaurants it's more plain. No loud music though! Just the sound of the table right next to you chewing!

Parking |5/5|
Medium sized lot that pretty is only used by Koyi-goers especially after 7pm since all other businesses are closed by then.

Overall: It's decent. Compared to Sushi Damu, Aikan, and Sake 2 Me, I'd come here again.

I'm surprised at all the good reviews talking about the quality of the fish here. We went to happy hour AYCE ($25, 12-3pm), and were shocked at the mediocre quality of the fish and rolls overall. We tried 6 rolls total (the happy hour AYCE does not include any salad, sushi, sashimi) and were disappointed with all of them. They had too much rice, and the fish did not taste fresh. After the first bite of the first roll we wanted to leave, but by that time we were locked into the fixed price, and didn't want to waste the money. Also, the waitress didn't bother to tell us that you can only order three rounds at ALL you can eat sushi, so when we inquired about adding on a last small cut roll, we were told no. Nowhere on the menu does it say that you can only order three rounds? Guess this isn't truly ALL you can eat sushi... I would recommend anywhere else. Overall we were dissatisfied with our visit due to the poor quality rolls, bad fish, and poor service.

The best sushi I've ever eaten. The best atmosphere I've ever experienced. The nicest people I've ever been served by.

Genuine goodness pours from the walls of Koyi Sushi. Its ingredients are plucked from the waters by Neptune himself and kissed by the lovely chefs behind the counter.

The prices are excessively good, but I would pay any amount for sushi of this quality. This was the best spicy tuna roll I've ever had, alongside some delicously clean-tasting sashimi.

I want to kiss the chefs responsible for such a delicious meal. My only hope is that they find some way to expand to Colorado so that my relationship with them can continue.

Thank you for existing.

Let’s be real. This restaurant has paid for influencers and reviewers to pretend this place is amazing. It is NOT.

The “chefs” have zero clue what they’re doing. The flavors suck. The spicy tuna is not spicy or seasoned. It’s basically ground tuna paste…yes…paste. Many rolls are missing typically included ingredients like veggies in the salmon skin hand roll.

Service was below average. We sat around waiting for our check for a good 10 minutes and finally had to flag down our server who hadn’t been around in quite some time.

As soon as we put in our first order the chefs(3of them) were making eye contacts and they all looked at our table at the same time and started talking (but couldn't quiet hear what they were saying in what language)
When we first got our rolls we thought it was decent until we found a strand of hair so we let the waitress know so we wouldn't be charged for the wasted food (no way I was eating that) then the waitress told them what happened in Korean (I'm Korean as well)
the first thing that came out of the chefs' mouth was
"is it long or short? Are u sure it's not theirs??" (The waitress told the chef that it's short so it's gotta be one of
the chefs') No apologies of what so ever.
They must have thought we wanted free food at ayce place LOL
The waitress offered to make new ones but I was already very disappointed at the chef so I refused but still paid the full price plus the tip

Being unsanitary is your problem so do not be mad at your customers.
I could hear the Korean-Chinese employees constantly cussing back in the kitchen and that is no way to run a business. Although majority of your customers may not understand since they are not Korean or Korean-chinese you should not disrespect the people who make you money like that.
Yall should be ashamed of yourselves.

I know for sure that they do not appreciate their customers business so I would recommend customers to spend their money else where.

Extremely Disappointing
We ordered multiple dishes including appetizers, sushi and main entree. My friends sushi arrived first and there was a 15 minute gap until any of my dishes including appetizers arrived. My teriyaki beef (my appetizer) arrived and was stone cold. My water glass had a large noticeable crack in it. My entree the teriyaki chicken was dry and chewy. My friend ordered a carpaccio which never arrived, and when we asked about it the waitress and cooks checked with each other and realized they had forgotten to put the order in for it. There was only one waitress on shift and the place was full and she was just very overwhelmed and struggling to cope with such a large amount of tables (I don’t blame her for this I blame management)
The staff seem nice, the place looks nice but they need to organize themselves and put in a better effort. An overall disappointment.

I arrived at 3pm , it was $38 plus tax and tip . Their menu is very confusing . They served me a lot of sushi rolls instead of sashimi . They will charge you $2 for every roll you don’t eat . None of them speak English fluently . They laughed at me in their language . Food was horrible , rolls are too sweet, so much rice . The sauces tastes like condense milk. There a small Asian waitress that makes face and never smiled . Avoid this. I wish i went to those Asian buffet . I regret so much . The sashimi are limited to one order . Worst . Place is too small and dirty . I think reviews are fake

Went here for their lunch special. Not a bad deal $33.95 for AYCE. I sat at the bar and the sushi chefs were helpful and fast. I enjoyed everything I ate and def would come back for the lunch deal. In addition this month of January they do buy 1 get 1 free sake or beer which is another great deal. Def enjoyed my visit here. Will be back to get these deals.

Food was good, salmon excellent. Service great. We had the bad fortune to be seated next to a family who forgot to train their ten year old to cover its mouth when sneezing. It sneezed every 30 seconds and after the first 3 we moved a fee tables away. The kid continued to sneeze fifty or more times with no attempt to cover her/,his mouth and parents were oblivious. Couldn't discern gender of the kid who was happy to infect the entire room with germs. Go figure how people are sometimes. Not the fault of the restaurant. Asian tendency is towards non confrontation.

100/10!!! I am someone who DOES NOT leave Google reviews usually but this place needs to be boosted and shared with more people!!!

Quaint and small interior restaurant but BIG flavor!! Once seated you pick out drinks then start Round 1/3 of your AYCE! I loved the salmon, I could actually taste it since they use very little rice on the bottom, it's basically sashimi! My next favorite was the "Lemon Flush" roll. Spicy crab meat inside and salmon with lemon on top. PERFECT for citrus lovers like myself. I've gone here about 6 times already and I plan on going many more times!!!

My only con is that service can be slow but if anything it gives me more time to demolish (enjoy) my sushi! There is also only 2 chefs at a time but sometimes one which is perfectly understandable! It's a small place!

PLEASE!!! Go here if you love sushi and want to spend time with someone you love.

Thanks for reading my review :)

Came in for Lunch, but ended up getting the AYCE dinner. Worth every penny! Fresh, delicious sashimi on every course. I especially appreciate the ratio of rice on the sashimi given. The rice is portioned very small, which gives maximum flavor for the sashimi itself. The owner is gracious and the service is top-notch! Believe that I'll be back again soon!

we felt very welcomed by the friendly owners. everything was very well made especially the nigiris; there were so little rice compared to the thick pieces of fish. each roll had 8 pieces and were made fresh in front of us. 10/10 would recommend :)

What a great place! Under new ownership, brothers Brian and Nathan, this place is awesome. Yea it’s All you can eat, but it’s different than the normal all you can eat places, it’s actually very good.

I went with a longtime friend who lives in Costa Mesa, and lived here for over 45 years. He visited this place prior to the new ownership and was pleasantly surprised.

As usual, I totally forget to take pictures of the delish selections, but was able to get a few. I do suggest a number of items. The gyoza was crispy after being prepared and was made to melt in your mouth. I had Salman, tuna, and Bluefin Toro, which was delicious. Not too much rice and fresh fish. Enjoyed a few rolls: Crench (so tasty), Salman Crunch Roll, Spicy Tuna Hand roll, and Sun and Kisses Roll, all worth the order. The Asahi beer was ice cold and a great compliment to our meal.

Coming from Chicago I’m particular with my sushi restaurants, especially one that advertises “All you can eat”, but I strongly suggest this one, it’s so worth it! Thank you Brian. Great place. When you go, tell them Chicago Keith sent you.

Delicious and affordable all you can eat dinner! The bluefin tuna nigiri and the monster roll were my favourite!

Service was fast and the nigiris were served perfectly. There is a big piece of fish and a super small amount of rice, exactly the way it should be!

I will definitely be returning!!

My guy and I happened upon the soft opening of Koyi Sushi, while having my car serviced down the street. What a great surprise! The service was great- the host and chef were so friendly and accommodating, and welcomed any and all feedback. They truly want to know how to provide the best experience for their customers.
The food was fantastic, with smaller serving sizes that are ideal for an all-you-can-eat menu, so you can try more items instead of filling up on just a few rolls. We were happy with everything we ordered, and they had suggestions that perfectly complimented what we had on our table.
We will definitely be back!

To be polite, not so good! Ordered katsu pork it was as thin as paper and dry and pared with jasmine rice & a salad with a weak dressing. Also, had spicy tuna roll, not spicy at all. I hope they change to improve. When it was Sushi Wave it used to be my families favorite place for years.

While I know Sushi Wave had many ups and downs throughout the -vid times, they will be missed and hold a dear place in my heart during very troubling times indeed. Now displayed on the marquis as Sushi Hong, Hong Sushi N Ramen is so far a dang decent spot to get two of my food loves...sushi and ramen! They're miso soup is exactly what ails you, spider roll (soft shell crab) divine, spicy ramen dilectable down to the last drop, shrimp tempura the absolute best most tender I've ever had, and vanilla soft serve to end off on the perfect sweet note. Will be back soon to try the next adventure!

Absolutely top notch in every way. Sushi could've been generic judging off the names alone, however one bite and you know it's unlike your average sushi bar. SO flavorful. The salmon and albacore was so fresh and juicy.

On top of that, the service was impeccable. 👌

Everyone was so nice, and went out of their way to make our experience enjoyable for my 9yr old daughter. The chefs specially made an 'avocado mouse' for her. It was adorable and she loved it.

Can't rave about Sushi Wave enough. Give it a try! 🍣

We were there five days ago and still talk about the food. They were very accommodating when I asked for a modification. We never felt like we were a bother. Presentation was amazing.. We cannot wait to go back with friends. We tried the cucumber roll, volcano roll, shrimp crunch roll, tiger roll and Japanese fried chicken eating ourselves stupid. So doing it again!

I ordered take out from here last night, so my rating does not apply to the staff or the cleanliness of their dining room, only the quality and value of the food. I live less than 5 minutes from sushi wave, so there is no excuse for the meal to have been that awful (it could not have spoiled in the time it took for me to get the food home).

I ordered a sampler of their specialty rolls as well as salmon and tuna nigiri, most of which ended up in the trash. The fish was dry and tasted old. Even their imitation crab was mostly just mayo. It was not high quality as the restaurant claims nor was it just a matter of personal taste. I was concerned about becoming ill. They are completely unjustified in changing as much as they do. It is significantly more expensive than some other local places and I regret ordering from sushi wave.

One of the best cheap all you can eat sushi spots in OC.

December 2021 UPDATE: I stopped going to this place cause the quality went down. Remains a fair priced AYCE sushi spot and decent prices for happy hour beers and saki.

Cool tip: if you've got a partner in crime and need to be time efficient, have you compadre start a wash load at coin laundry next door while you get a table for two, then after the first AYCE round, you go switch the load to dry, while your partner chills and puts in the second AYCE round...
