Yummy Sushi – A Feast of Views, Not of Service
Coronado, San Diego
In one of the most picturesque corners of Coronado, Yummy Sushi greets you with postcard-perfect views and the promise of an “all-you-can-eat” sushi experience that sounds almost too good to be true. As it turns out, it kind of is.
The evening began with high hopes. The location alone deserves applause—a sweeping view of the water that makes even the gloomiest days seem serene. But for all its charm, this restaurant’s allure fades once you get past the scenery.
To be fair, there were glimmers of potential. The bluefin sashimi was exceptional—silky, rich, and fresh enough to momentarily whisk me away from the flaws of the experience. But even the best dishes can’t save a meal bogged down by sluggish service. And slow doesn’t begin to cover it.
For an all-you-can-eat setup, the pacing was downright painful. On average, plates emerged from the kitchen after a 15-minute wait, with the longest stretch—yes, I timed it—clocking in at a head-scratching 32 minutes for a simple order of sashimi. And, lest you think I exaggerate, an avocado roll took a full 40 minutes to arrive. Avocado. No, thank you.
The wait was compounded by confusion. Over the course of the evening, two different servers attended to our table. A small detail, perhaps, but no one informed us about the change, leaving us unsure of who to flag down—or if anyone even remembered our orders. By the time the food arrived, the frustration had effectively killed my appetite.
Credit where it’s due: the music was cool—eclectic and upbeat enough to keep the room lively. And yes, this place was busy, which might excuse some of the delays. But there’s a line between “busy” and “unprepared,” and Yummy Sushi teetered perilously close to the latter.
The harsh truth? A restaurant’s charm and location can only carry it so far. The food, while occasionally good, was not worth the price or the wait. The service—well-meaning but chaotic—left much to be desired.
Would I return? For the view, perhaps. For the sushi, no. Yummy Sushi may be sitting on prime real estate, but if it wants to truly captivate diners, it needs to speed up the kitchen, tighten up the service, and match the quality of its location with an experience worth savoring.

We really want to love Yummy Sushi. We are fairly regular diners there and every now and then we get our large family in for meal together. This last visit was for a group of 18 - we made reservation a week prior and asked if their AC was finally fixed (the area at the front of restaurant had been out for years) as this would have determined whether or not we go. They said yes it was fixed but when we got there it was hot and it was off. Fortunately as the sun set it kicked in and we could dine in peace for the second half of our visit.
The food was delicious. We all had the AYCE menu and the dishes were good. Timing was a bit rough - sometimes things came out super fast and other times we waited 15-20 minutes in between. We know large groups are a challenge but I wish they were a bit better prepared. We were assigned one server split up by three tables - perhaps one server per table to keep the flow of information (orders) and accountability for service would help. We got scolded for asking a different server about our order - apparently that caused confusion and some items may have been ordered twice.
Quality of the food was good but the value was excellent. We will probably go back but will think twice before going as a large group again.

If you're looking for some top-notch sushi, you can't go wrong with Yummy Sushi Coronado. It's got amazing customer service and good food. No matter who the waitress is, they always check on us and take away empty sushi trays pretty much as soon as we finish with them.
This is our second visit within a day due to its exceptional quality, which compelled us to return. The staff possesses commendable service, the food is of superior quality, and the prices are proportionate. We can confidently state that 10/10 would not warrant questioning this decision, only presenting oneself with an opportunity to leave satisfied.

First time visit. Great service. Food arrives fairly quickly. Went during peak dinner period . Arrived with no reservation and was able to be seated quickly inside. There is a small patio overlooking Hotel Del. Choice of AYCE or menu. Value in AYCE. Lots of options with creative rolls.

- Nigiri is decent (inpropprtionate rice to fish ratio)
- sashimi quality is good but only able to order ONE piece and once only (doesn't come in pairs)
- orders take a long time to come out (about 50% longer than other AYCE restaurants that I've been to
- Customer service is subpar:
1. * Long hair waiter: never brought ginger or horseradish (had to walk 60' all the way to the front to get his attention to bring it after the 4th round of ordering!!)
*Busy talking with co-worker and rarely attends our table to take orders, fill water, or ask about the food or well-being
*forgot my order, messed up my table's order another time
*Informed me that the Del Coronado 'snow crab' roll was real snow crab but he was severely misinformed (should do homework before telling non-factual things)
*Said the beef teriyaki is tender but it was extremely chewy and low quality (slicing things thin doesn't improve texture if it's overcooked)
*A bit upset when he wasn't tipped for his outstanding service
*Besides that, he's nice
2. Another waitress: incorrectly stated that some items weren't allowed in the All-You-Can-Eat menu but I had to remind her by showing her the menu

Made me and my girlfriend both sick, she was vomitting for about 2 hours and even the next day our stomachs were still hurting like cramping.

I called 3 pm and I was told to go at 8 pm bc they didn't have reservations just walk ins, and 8 pm was not a rush hour. When I arrived I was told I cannot be served. I talked to the manager, I explained the phone call, I took an uber that was 22 dollars just to go to that place and they didn't care at all.

This is my favorite all you can eat in San Diego. They options are fantastic and the fish is top notch. It's one of the few AYCE places that have sashimi as an basic menu option. Andy was our server and he was super helpful with navigating the menu. It's our go to spot when we really want sushi.

Me and my family started going to this spot earlier this year and have been loving it so far! There are nearby ayce sushi places near our home, but yummy sushi has been worth the drive each time. We came in on a Sunday afternoon around 2 PM, what an awful experience. I took my in laws out to lunch and we had terrible service. The server was in a terrible mood and I felt like she did not want to be there. We did the all you can eat, food we ordered never came out and things came out that we didn’t order. I was also charged for a California roll when I never ordered one. I did not bother to complain due to the fact that I wanted to leave quickly. They don’t offer a kids menu, they also count babies as part of a group of six (standard gratuity policy )so you will get auto gratuity on your check even though they’re not old enough to eat sushi. I am a great tipper when I get good service, but this was the worst service I have had in Coronado. When they brought the check, they had asked if I wanted to add a tip, which was already added this is completely misleading and scammy. Someone that wouldn’t be sure if it was already added to the check would potentially add a double tip. Came here 8 years ago, just to come back to the worst experience do a better job with your service. Food was awesome however!

Best sushi in San Diego!
They have various authentic sushi and rolls and unique fusion menus as well. All of them were very fresh and worth trying. I visited this place with my 8-year-old son, and I was happy with their AYCE option. I tasted nice dishes without any worry about the price, and we could choose a lot of options for my little boy. Especially, the Unagi handroll and the Crunch Roll were really good.
The staff were friendly, though the place was a bit crowded. They did their best to make us feel comfortable with careful attention. The beautiful scenery and being able to walk around Coronado Island were a bonus.
Definitely going again! Highly recommended!

This place is a small hidden gem in Coronado. yummy sushi what are you doing!!!! you are doing all you can eat now!!!! my recent visit to Yummy Sushi, I found out they now offer an All You Can Eat menu which is amazing! I've always loved their sushi but the prices held me back. Now with the AYCE option, I can enjoy all the sushi I want without worrying about the cost. We went last Friday around 4pm and even though they only take walk-ins on weekends, we managed to find a table. The place was busy but we had no issues with the service - everyone in our group was happy with the quick service and quality of the food. The fish was fresh and delicious as always. Even though they were super busy, we left feeling satisfied. Definitely planning on going back soon!

Absolute trash. Not busy, sat for 30 mins while they took other tables orders. Waste of time and money.

Moderate sushi but staff has an awful nonchalant attitude. The waiter shoved the card machine in our direction after the meal and walked off afterwards without so much as a “have a nice night” after watching me punch in an overly-generous tip for the service.
The hostesses are less than eager to be helpful. We were told they aren’t taking reservations at 4pm. We came back at five to an hour long wait. We asked to sit at the bar, as there were two open seats, but the hostess quickly back tracked and said there were reservations made months ago (???) we put our names in, left and came back and asked how the wait was going. We were told only one table was ahead of us but then watched three parties get sat before us.
Do yourself a favor and take your money elsewhere. This restaurant lacks common courtesy.

Sushi was good but the ordering process needs some work especially with a large party. I have been to all you can eat sushi places that have their ordering process a little more ironed out. Other than that well worth a try if you have never been and you want a built in stroll for after dinner. I give this place a "if the people in my party wanted to go here I wouldn't aggressively try to talk to them out of it".

I made a reservation days in advance for Saturday for “regular seating”. We arrive at the restaurant and the hostess states that even though we made a reservation only the sushi bar was available and the restaurant is booked for the entire night. There was no mention of this when the reservation was made on Open Table. According to the hostess, Open Table takes reservations when the restaurant is full and they just bump you to the sushi bar with zero communication from the restaurant. The hostess also did not care at all or apologize for the error. Overall, a pretty disappointing experience.

I recently placed a catering order with Yummy Sushi in Coronado for a birthday, and while there were some hiccups, the team's dedication to making things right truly impressed me.
Despite a small delay and a mix-up with my order, the staff at Yummy Sushi went above and beyond to rectify the situation. Not only did they promptly prepare the correct order, but they also generously provided extra fish as a gesture of goodwill.
Their sushi is delicious, and their commitment to customer satisfaction is commendable. Despite the initial inconvenience, I left satisfied and grateful for their efforts. Thank you to the team at Yummy Sushi for their exceptional service and delicious food!

"Yummy..Sushi!" Those were my words months ago. Those were the days of 5 star treatment and food.
Now, not anymore. Much has changed, they provide an all you can eat menu and hired many new staff members.
We were regulars, enjoyed great tasting sushi, great service, and perfect view of the ocean from our table.
2/13 we decided to have an early Valentine's Day celebration. Arrived and was promptly seated by a new server, she gave us menus, took our order. Then, served us saki and seaweed salad. Everything seemed normal. The groups that came in after us got their food. We waited 45 minutes after our order was taken for 2 rolls. The other guests left and still no rolls. We asked for the check and left without food.
2/14 we returned because the sushi is amazing and decided the issues from the day before was a fluke. We sat at the bar this time because it might provide us a better chance of getting fed. The rolls we ordered were not good. The food we had in the past was always excellent. Not anymore. The Three Amigos roll was missing sauce, spicier than usually. Due to the abnormal amount of spice I couldn't tell you, if the roll was made with fresh sushi. Plus, without the sauce to provide a balanced tangy with acidity it was a huge fail. I could have bought that roll from the grocery store, slathered it with soy sauce wasabi and got the same effect. Normally, the spider roll (it's a tempura roll) is served very warm. The spider roll we received was not warm, and it was lacking flavor.
I am not sure, what has changed with the flavor of their fish and crab. Maybe they are freezing it? But, rolls are lacking flavor and they way the rolls are made is now inconsistent. Which has caused me to search for a new sushi restaurant.
This place has saki, seaweed salad, and a good view and that's all.

If you want to eat here make sure you don’t sit at the bar otherwise you’d be neglected the entire time you’re seated. The service is so bad that I’m actually going out of my way to write a review about it. It took almost 30 minutes for us to get a glass of water and after waiting for what felt like an eternity we were finally served our food. We put in our second order and the service took so long that I lost my appetite because I became so disgusted by the mistreatment from the staff that we just paid and left. I honestly felt that it would’ve been more appropriate if we had dine and dashed because of how disrespectful the staff was. It’s a shame that the service is the worst I’ve ever experienced in my life because the food is actually really good. Some of the best sushi I’ve had while living in San Diego but definitely not worth being treated how we were tonight. We will not be coming back and we’ll definitely spread the word about how poor the service is here. This restaurant can really do some re-training with their employees.

This place is great!! They have all you can eat now, so come ready to eat and make sure your group is ready too because everyone at the table has to order it if you decide to get it.
Service was honestly awesome - explained everything well, they were attentive while still giving us space to talk on our own. Maggie was our server, highly recommend.
Recommend a reservation on weekends!

Such a great little place and service was wonderful. Definitely will go back.

This place was excellent! The food came out pretty fast and they took our order quickly and the all you can eat has a lot of options! The $40 option is definitely worth it!

The food was amazing. They were really busy so I understand why there was delays in our drinks and some of our orders. The cook was super friendly. I would highly recommend making a reservation.

Really good food. The all you can eat is a bit pricey so we ordered off the menu. Great quality though

Bad service, food was good but service was very chaotic

Service was below average. Everything was chaotic. We received food we didn’t order. Server never checked up on us for refills. Ordered the blue fin tuna. Extremely expensive and only got three little pieces. Sushi rolls were ok. Not worth the price.

There were only two other tables at the restaurant and they utilize this robot to drop off food so we never got to order drinks or even more water. When we finish the waitress came over and asked if we were going to order anything else and we said no. We waited like 15 minutes bc we were sure is the robot was coming back to cash out. We end up going to the front and our waitress is sitting at the front eating. We were like uhhhh do we cash out at the front? She completely forgot about us when the place was basically empty. lol

Best sushi I've had in a while 😋

The sushi is great if you aren’t vegan or vegetarian. The veggie rolls are fairly disappointing and overpriced. Staff is very nice and restaurant is clean.

Good food and all around great environment - just a little pricey - but... you are in Coronado so it makes sense 😆

Pleasantly surprised that this place is nicer than typical Japanese restaurants in USA! We tried sashimi, yakisoba, udon and a few sushi rolls. We love all of them! Looks like they are short on staff but overall it’s a pretty good experience!

Food is pretty good. My husband and I have been going here for years and they suddenly started refusing military discount on takeout orders. Pretty silly to me.

Food was hit and miss. Miso soup was not great- how do you mess up a miso soup? Start by not including any Tofu.
My spicy salmon roll was excellent as was the California roll. My wife’s unagi roll was fair. Ebi was also very good.
The price of our meal was the real deal breaker. I was checking my receipts and it was the most expensive sushi I have had in the US. (SF, NYC and Seattle)
Service was good.

Sashimi was good quality, but the rainbow roll was super average, and took about 25 minutes to arrive even though the crowd was thin (Monday afternoon)

Some of the best sushi I have ever had and although the service was bad the food makes it 5 stars.

Blonde hostess had an attitude. So we left before ordering. She rolled her eyes when we picked a table outside, verbally complained about the table being so far to walk to, and walked away before we could ask questions or order a drink purposely. Bad service from the beginning. Glad we left and went to Wonderful Sushi where they treat everyone great.

Upon arriving at the sushi restaurant, we requested a seat on the patio due to the lack of customers and available seating. However, the staff insisted that we sit inside, which we accepted without issue. We were left unattended at our table for approximately ten minutes until we took the initiative to retrieve menus from a nearby table. After being seated, an automated robot cart delivered water, plates, and utensils, followed by the wait staff, who arrived shortly after. Despite the restaurant having only a few other guests, we experienced a significant delay in receiving assistance, waiting at least ten minutes. While we understand that sushi preparation takes time, the service was exceptionally slow. After our food was delivered, we did not see any staff members for about 20 minutes, and when we wanted to order additional rolls, their delayed return was accompanied by a rude demeanor, making us feel unwelcome. Although the food itself was delightful, the poor service and staff attitude were disappointing. Regrettably, we do not plan to return to this establishment based on our experience.

Upon arrival, we asked to sit outside on the patio space, as the restaurant was not busy and there were plenty of seating options. They told us we were not allowed to sit outside so they sat us inside, which was fine. We had to grab our own menus at a nearby table because after being sat, no one came by our table for about ten minutes. An automated robot cart brought us water wand our plates and utensils about five minutes after being seated and the wait staff hadn’t come by until after that. Again, the restaurant only had a few other guests and we waited at least ten minutes to be helped. The food was slow to come out, which is expected with sushi but the service was very very slow. The wait staff dropped off our food and we didn’t see anyone for about 20 minutes. We were ready to order more rolls and by the time the wait staff came back, they were rude and made of us feel like we were not welcomed here. We ordered one item and tried to order more but the staff was walking off as we were still ordering. The food is amazing but the service and attitude of the staff was very poor. Would not come back because of that.

Not a good experience, the waitress seems to hate her job no smile or interaction. The food is subpar for the price, ingredients seem to be low quality, and it doesn't taste free. I would not come here again, and it is overpriced!

This is an exquisite sushi restaurant. It was worth every penny and I'm still savoring the flavors these chefs present. You won't regret your choice to dine here. I highly recommend getting a reservation.

Sushi was good, though very ... unorthodox. If you are looking for experimental and bold sushi, this could be your jam! If you want more traditional fare, it's a high price for what you get.
Staff were polite but overworked (Monday evening), wait times were ~1 hour for 2 rolls, some nigiri, and some tempura to go.
Nothing obviously wrong with the restaurant, but nothing I'd be super excited to come back for either.

All of the sushi is of the highest quality available in any season. It is literally as good as you can eat anywhere. The service is outstanding. Everything we have had on the menu for over 15 years has been outstanding. Highly recommended as one of the finest sushi restaurant in San Diego County.
I'm providing another update as nothing has changed. The sushi is as good as ever and in my opinion five star for everything. Fantastic service and highest Quality.

I dislike giving a restaurant a not so good review but I, as a business owner, would like for Customers to tell me the truth in order to improve. That said, I’ve given Yummy Sushi three chances in the last 6-7 years, with the experience being the same in all of them. Unfortunately I will not be coming back as the spotty service, foul smell of the place, stale sushi rice (key ingredient as sushi lovers know) and not the best quality of fish makes the dining experience not worth the price. Coronado deserves better.

Amazing food here; I definitely recommend trying nigiri with their truffle salt.

Have been to this place several times before tonight and enjoyed the experience overall. Tonight me and my friends wanted to switch it up and get out of downtown and get some sushi in Coronado. Our sever (didn’t tell us his name) was very inattentive. Didn’t want to be there, I had to ask for water refills. Sushi was good but there’s more to it than sushi. The experience wasn’t good and prob won’t be back. He made this experience not worth the drive during these Biden times

Courteous and friendly service staff, food was absolutely amazing, able to view the scene of the beautiful Conarato beach from our seats. I complained about a small hiccup and the issue was instantly resolved, which I appreciated very much!

We ordered four rolls for takeout (3 Amigos, Long Weekend, and Tropical Pink x2) and they were all below average in taste. As some other reviewers mentioned, just very bland. The 3 Amigos was very weird, with lemon peels actually in the roll. Very disappointing considering the 4 rolls were a total of $75.
If you’re on Coronado and looking for sushi, Saiko Sushi is wayyyy better and much more reasonably priced.
