The Clovis Area's brand-new home for Teppan-Yaki, Sushi, and Traditional Dining. The name Fresno knows and loves now also available in the beautiful Clovis community. Located in Sierra Vista Mall, just north of No Surrender laser tag.
Enjoyed a nice lunch and sat in a spacious booth. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. I had the Mallory roll and never had it prepared this beautifully before. It was fresh and delicious. Bacon fried rice was just as good at traditional dinning as it is at the grill. Large portions all around. This place is consistent with their quality and service. Never a bad meal.

I ordered dinner from Sakura Chaya in Clovis on my way home. When I picked up the order, I asked the cashier if there was ugnagi sauce in the bag or if I had to order one separately. She advised that there is one in the bag. I went home, and I was shocked to find no sauce in the container. I ate 2 pieces but it didn't enjoy it. I called the restaurant and explained to them what had happened. I advised that I was discarding the sushi roll and asked if they could remedy the situation for me. The manager Liana shared that it should have been in the bag and that the sushi chef made an error. She shared she could put me down for a free sauce for my next visit but couldn't refund the roll. So I waisted my time, money, and appetite.

We came in with a large party of 13 at 7:30 PM, expecting a fun and smooth experience, but it was anything but that. It took over an hour for the chef to even come out to start cooking (8:47 PM to be exact). To make matters worse, two chefs went to a table that arrived after us and started cooking for them first!
We asked management what was going on, and it took them an unacceptable 30 minutes to finally address the situation. By that time, the experience was already ruined. The lack of organization and customer service was appalling. I would not recommend this place if you value your time or expect even basic courtesy.

The whole family of 7 went to Sakura Chaya Clovis to celebrate the 10th birthday of our grandson . This was his choice as he loves Teppanyaki.
The service was excellent and our cook was amazing and very entertaining. The food was delicious! The menu has so many options to choose from its hard to make a choice.

This place has both sit down dining and teppenyaki, obviously the latter having massive demand with waits over an hour long. Even sitting and waiting for a booth was also lengthy as well, around 45 mins when promised 15 mins. Mainly due to clean up or tables being opened, the hostess was vague on that... It all changed once we sat down...
I cant stress how well this server was tonight! She was very chatty and also loved and made recommendations! The craziest part was when I was deciding between vanilla or rainbow servant and she brought out both!!
We ordered a special bento box filled with tempura and beef and siu mai and potato salad! Basically a sample of the entire menu as a little bento box!!!
I ordered a sukiyaki hot plate with beef on it, it had a very tangy mushroom sauce in it topped with sesame seeds and cilantro. Beef tasted very very flat though even with all of that.
The roasted salmon and the California rolls were also nothing home to write about and at $14+ they better have meant something and failed... The salad was also questionable too with the sauce choice but the veggies were fresh. At least the miso soup was good!
But with the price paid there was a lot of food that we couldn't finish and we didnt mind taking them out! I don't remember ordering having that many boxes in a while! And we were pretty hungry when we came in!
I would like to come back here. Maybe one day to try out the teppanyaki, since i here that is the main attraction here! But the server is on the restaurant side is still really really good! I'm not sure it's the server's in the teppanyaki side is the same...

First time visiting this restaurant. To star with, We arrived at 1:00 PM party of 12 reservation as a guest. The hostess told us we have to wait for the rest of our party, totally understandable but then she said "Please contact all your party friends, "not in the nicest attitude" your cut-out time is until 1:40 pm for everyone to arrived." I told her "I am sorry but I am just a guest " She insisted for us to contact everyone else in our party. Definitely feels like Debbie Downer welcoming.
The waiter was really nice and quick service. We have cupcakes and asked us, if We would like to be store in the fridge while we eat. Which we appreciated it.
The chef was not experienced, couple tricks here and there but he did really well, he was funny and his food was delicious and well cook. I told the waiter that we have a birthday in our party and he said "I will get you an ice cream" my problem was that an hour before the staff sang happy birthday for someone else while our birthday girl just got place a n ice cream in front of her. Nice but kinda sad. My advice is "If you are not going to do it for everyone, better not do it at all." I have mix feelings about this place. Overall the place is beautiful, spacious and very clean.
$$
Long waiting time to be seated.
I don't think I want to go back.

The sushi side was okay. The shumai was too soft and watery. Its dipping sauce was very spicy. I think horseradish was in it. The California Sashimi, on the other hand, was very tasty and fresh.
The server was rather unenthusiastic and had to verify a few items. The food came out pretty fast. The hibachi side sounded pretty wild. There might have been a party.

Honestly from someone who has eaten at other Japanese styled restaurants it was okay. Prices were insane. I basically paid for the service. Best part about restaurant was the chef. Very talkative, interacted with everyone, made the fact I was damn near wasting a full check okay, but I mean you'll same prices almost if you go to Wasabi on fire. So I guess pretty okay place but definitely not my Number 1 spot or even top 10. Only went anyways for a bday party.

As I’m writing this I’m dealing with food poisoning from eating there yesterday. I told the chef that the chicken wasn’t cooked. He said that the grill is not hot enough, which doesn’t seem like an excuse. So I call the next day to let them know and all the general manager David is willing to do is give me 20% off. He didn’t even have the decency to call me personally. I will NOT BE GOING BACK!

Came in with a large family of 10 for teppenyaki. Staff was very nice and interacted well. Flavor was ok, but not worth $35 a person. Nothing about it wowed me in any sense. I asked for medium on my steak and got well done. Seasoning was the same on everything. A combination of salt pepper garlic with a little msg, very standard stuff. The family wanted teppen which I always stay far away from. Personally I dislike it because it's all show and no substance. However, we had no show. So now there isn't any show or substance. The family also complained that the food was overly salted. I don't see myself returning.

I've eaten here before usually pretty good.
However, while making reservations today, the person who answered the phone was very curt. I think she thought she was working at a Michellin resturant. Be good do better. I would agree with another review I read. Rude at the worst dismissive at the least.

Waited 30 minutes with no AC just to be seated. Then waited another 30 minutes just to get drinks. It was super hot in there and smelled. They appeared to be super understaff. Poor lady Katie was running around the restaurant all sweating while 2 girls in the front just sat down. Very bad management. Place was not very clean. Very disappointed especially since we drove 45 minutes away.

Absolutely amazing sushi while visiting Fresno / Clovis. Guys at sushi bar were so nice and gave little personal bites on the house. I went to a different (supposedly high end) sushi restaurant the second night I was visiting … the other was way more expensive and it didn’t even compare to Sakura quality and friendly service.

Can’t even get in to eat. Apparently they don’t do walk ins, they put us on a list and said it would be on a back up list and they would tell us in 40 minutes if someone didn’t show up. Clovis is getting way too crowded

Cook got offended when we asked to go light on the garlic powder. Gave us our Filets raw still.
Hot and spicy sauce is different now too. Not as sweet and way to thick now..

I had the Sashimi Teishoku-A LA Carte custom $29.99 20 pice it tasted fresh and was well presented on a bed of daikon radish and on the plate was a fair amount of pickled ginger and wasabi. A bowl of rice on the side. I also had the spicy edamame it was good but I've had better. I had stuffed crab mushroom now that was really good and shared it with my wife who had the miso soup and vegetable tampur along with two long Island ice teas which she loved! Outstanding meal! In our opinion the service was Outstanding and our waitress was vary attentive!

This place has good food and I made a reservation for 11 guest. I had called to make a change and they proceeded to tell me there was no reservation, the girl put me on hold and proceeded to say it was for the same day that I was calling. The day I wanted was fully booked and she said you can come & try to walk in. Why would I bring my guest to sit & wait. How frustrating that was to hear. Management needs to send out a text message to confirm reservations and whoever takes the call needs to be held accountable for their mistake. Glad to say we took our buisness elsewhere who COULD accommodate our big party on short notice. If you make reservations here make sure to get the persons name who puts you down.

We went there for a birthday party of 12 people. As you know everyone orders at once and the food is prepared in bulk. One person in our party requested no mushrooms.....and several people ordered shrimp.
As for myself....i ordered and pointed on the menu to the full order of rice that was $17+.
Once the show began and the food was being prepared, all the food was made and mixed together and the person that requested no mushrooms had to have all the mushrooms picked out of her food. And when it came to distributing the food, there wasnt enough shrimp to cover everyones order equally. One person in our party only received 2 shrimps.
As for myself and my order of rice......there was only enough to make me a side of rice which is the little bowl size serving.
The final straw was when my wife ordered a drink from the bar. The drink came and she was very pleased.....however after she was done with her drink she requested a glass of water. The waitress returned with a pitcher of water and poured the water into my wifes old used glasses that she had gotten for her drink from the bar. I found this act insulting and very rude. We will not return to this place and we certainly wont be recommending anyone to eat here.

Went in expecting to sit at the main grill where they cook in front of you. We decided not to due to the fact wanted a quite area to talk. Best decision. Quite a nice selection to order from. The waitress was very helpful in giving suggestions on certain menu items. Will definitely go back to try more items.. the place just needs a up to date look, a refresh of paint on the walls, floors need a good buff plus hood grills need to be cleaned down on the out side where smoke goes up when cooking in front of of customers. Other than that a pretty decent place to eat

Horrible experience with the Manager, Tiffany- It first started with my family and I being seated at a table that wasn't warm- during middle of dinner- we had to move tables- My husband cut his hand on the chair he was sitting on- there was screw sticking right up- Server was aware of situation - never brought it manager's attention-
The food made all of us sick-instantly- where I had to take my daughter of out the restaurant- My husband was given the wrong bill three times- We paid someone else bill- because we were told it was our bill- I called Tiffany, once we got home from the restaurant to explain our experience- Reservation was at 6pm- called Tiffany at 8:45 pm- Per Tiffany, There was too much time in between before contacting her- I tried to explain to Tiffany, on how we had to get home due to the food not sitting well with all of us- Tiffany didn't want to hear it- told me to go to the doctor and bring back the report- Tiffany was very argumentative- didn't want hear what had happen- Kept telling me I should have let her know sooner and to go to the doctor for a report- Dinner wasn't cheap for such a HORRIBLE experience and then to be treated horrible by management.

Everything needs to be improved. Has a 2.9 for a reason (well many)
The hood was broken, so much smoke/steam everywhere. There was so much water at the bottom of our plates you would think it was some kind of "new" soup dish. The food itself was far from good. A person might think this was some sort of prank, to see how far you can push the customers before they get upset. Lol.
All in all: Save yourself the trouble & time, there's plenty of good teppanyaki restaurants around.

To start of positive... the food was delicious. The experience absolutely not. The chef began with "smoke will go... this way" as he pointed straight to where my friend and I were sitting. We thought it was a joke. Until the entire time we had smoke just drafting straight into our eyes and lungs. It was horrible. They obviously know about this problem with their crap ventilation, because once I got home I saw multiple reviews complaining about the same thing going back to at least 4 months ago. Really took away from the whole experience and wish I had said something in person, not sure it would have made a difference. Definitely sure I Won't be returning. There are definitely enough other places with great teppanyaki and zero issues with smoke like this. Hard pass, so disappointing.

I have no clue why this place has 4 stars. The sushi was absolutely terrible. It tasted like a freezer. They served bland potatoes salad with dinner - I thought this was a Japanese restaurant. I paid 120 bucks for dinner and it’s going straight in the trash. I guess the miso soup was ok - but everything else I ordered was inedible. I won’t go here ever again.

I was 5 minutes late for my reservation because I booked the wrong location. That was my fault. However when I arrived 5 minutes late at the Clovis location the staff said the would work me in within the next 30 minutes. That was great! What they failed to mention was that they would work me in “if someone didn’t show up” otherwise it would be a 2 hour wait! Had they told me when I arrived we would of left since again it was my fault for booking the wrong location. Instead they let us sit there and wait without saying anything! Have never been to the Clovis lox before, and never will go back.

Not sure about the teppanyaki side, but the sushi side isn’t that great. The rainbow roll had old looking avocado, the tempura shrimp inside was not crunchy, and it did not taste fresh. You know that feeling when you bite into a fried item and it’s old so you dont have that give when you bite it? The california roll was decent, the yo mama roll was overwhelmingly salty, less sauce would be okay. And side note the side order of rice is a huge serving. The service was very good though, very nice and attentive.

Food was alright, but I just left there and the server acted like we were bugging him that we were there and when I went to check out, the girl was too busy laughing UT up with the guys and the boss to even notice I was there. The only girl that seemed to be working was the hostess, and she was the only one with a smile on her fface. I am all about yhe atmosphere and this place did not have it. It felt judgy as hell and the vibe was not positive feeling at all. I will never eat here again and I will yell my friends and family to steer clear of this place.

Dirty! As soon as we walked in we could tell by the green fish tank how the experience would be. The tables were all covered in grease from the rag they used to “clean” them. Something was wrong with the fan at our table and every bit of smoke went right in our faces. Food quality was okay but they messed up our order twice. I guess not much to expect out of another trashy Fresno over hyped restaurant

We went for my sister's bday and had an awesome chef who threw out all the stops. He had lights, jokes, and, of course, fire. Not just the usual fire that comes along with cooking food, aka the volcano, but where he lit two fire shakers and did an awesome performance.
This was a memorable bday.

I won’t post any pictures , blood smeared on toilet seats, poop in the waste baskets, I get that’s just nasty customers, but staff clearly changed the rolls leaving the old ones on the back of the toilet clearly states someone checked the bathroom. The chef was argumentative with the guests at the table seated well after we ordered, scolding her for not declaring her shellfish allergy (my family ordered full dinners and fish) further scolding her party for abstaining from bacon without disclosing their religious reason, or just overall request. Again, this birthday girl and her entire party of 4 was not present when we ordered! All the meanwhile, another chef played music, at an obnoxious level THE ENTIRE MEAL. First mariachi music before starting a second table with club music both times strobing lights the entire time. Our chef continually asked the chef behind him to turn it down, as it was clearly distracting him… he would drop his tools, forget requests etc
This was not a relaxing evening, this establishment is not safe for those sensitive to loud music
It was dirty

If I could give zero stars I would have. I made my reservations for 7:30pm and they wrote me down for 7pm instead. I called double checking the location and they said “oh your reservation says 7pm, you’re late and there’s nothing we can do about it”. I know for a fact I wanted 7:30pm because I wrote it down myself. Instead of apologizing for the mixup or trying to resolve the issue she just said “the book says 7, there’s nothing we can do for you”. A whole party of 10 displaced after an hour+ drive. Thanks for nothing Sakura!

Compared to the Fresno location, quite a disappointment. Living only a few minutes away, I was very excited not to have to travel to 15 mins to the other restaurant. What a bummer.
Don't get me wrong, it's a great location! But, that's about it. I've worked in the Japanese culinary industry for a decade in a handful of restaurants, and I'm familiar with quality. This one missed the mark.
Still has massive potential, it just needs some help all around.

Where’s the food? I asked for 2 tempura with shrimp plates, no salad or rice. I got about 7-10 BITES of food. Well actually my husband got ALL food. Both weren’t enough for one SENIOR, let alone 2 seniors. For $25+. I gave all food to husband and he said that’s not enough for me. I said that was actually 2 (two) orders. Not terrible tasting, but not up to what we’re used to. I ask you to go there with eyes wide open. I can’t afford a place like that.

To top it off our teppanyaki server continuously joked about tipping then rolled his eyes shook his head while saying “damn” when we didn’t tip him IMMEDIATELY after he cooked. The little girls in the front was rude and they had just opened then they sit us at an empty table where the chef didn't even put a show on like the usually would if the table was full. My bacon fired rice was burnt, the only good thing was the service lady who took our order and kept my drinks filled, me and my husband felt very rush as workers kept watching us and walking around us waiting to pick up any of the dishes when we was done. I wouldn't be returning waste of $100 that I've worked hard for to be treated that kind of way.

My boyfriend and I always come here before going to the movies. From my boyfriend. he said he didn’t really like the ramen but the taste for me was pleasant. I usually get sushi, but i got the Beef Kushiyaki and it was delicious. I haven’t seen it before and I’m glad i got to taste it. The Orange Blossom Sushi, looks so pretty and I didn’t know it came with an egg yolk. I don’t eat wontons, but they’re decent. The Dragon Roll is full but it tastes spicy and sweet. Our waiter was really kind and wasn’t a problem. The food did take a while to prepare, but i assume it’s because we order sushi and other food. It’s surprising that we get seated by the same area we would eat, but it wasn’t a problem either. Overall, I like coming here and eating their sushi. I haven’t tried the teppanyaki yet so I’ll save it for another day

I don't blame this review it's just that I don't really like places like this so that's why but I came for a early birthday and it's 4/10 for me but for being my family's pick I'll give it a 8/10 for that but my personal review is a 4/10

The food was bad, because the young man was bearly learning, I get it. He was very heavy handed with the pepper, the hot spicy sauce was poorly made, when I mixed it you can see the mayo is one of the key ingredients. Service was a bit slow but it's because they are covering so many tables & lastly the restroom was just horrible to use not well maintained. I'll stick to the original Sakura.

The servers are friendly. They are short on people, so had to wait awhile for food, but it is worth the wait. Really nice place. Highly recommend you try them out.

Delicious food and the chefs are always very entertaining! Our server seemed like she had a lot on her plate but she still provided excellent service delivering the soup, salad, and our appetizer, as well as refilling our drinks in a timely manner. I’m not usually a huge fan of red meat, but the sukiyaki style beef was fantastic!

Reservations were at 12:30, we sat down we waited up until 1:45 and that’s when they came to us and told us they only had 3 cooks, as if they couldn’t tell us this any sooner?! My brother had to leave because they took so long which is unfair for him!. When the cook got there he wasn’t as experienced as others which I understand we all need to learn, but come on a newer cook assigned to a table with a party of 10 people! Poor guy, it took him too long, longer than it should’ve taken to cook everyone’s plate! That is almost 3 hours of our time wasted not only that but the food was mediocre at best! Expressed our concerns to the manager and she put the blame on the head chef because he assigns each cook a table. I wonder who’s idea it was to put the new guy with the table of 10 people ?! This whole experience was a joke, just like the discount they offered, very upsetting. Mind you I had to request to pay, the cook was still working on someone’s plate because he forget their chicken.

Didi was wonderul- she's a 5 star 🌟, I asked about yo mama, and she suggested a different sushi that we might like better based on our query.
Food is good a little steep on the pricing. Overall service is 4 the food took a little long to be cooked.
We'll be back here after checking other Japanese Restaurants in Fresno, CA

The sushi side was okay. The shumai was too soft and watery. Its dipping sauce was very spicy. I think horseradish was in it. The California Sashimi, on the other hand, was very tasty and fresh.
The server was rather unenthusiastic and had to verify a few items. The food came out pretty fast. The hibachi side sounded pretty wild. There might have been a party.

I enjoyed Sakura Chaya a lot. I went by myself and got the chirashi and got the j&j role. Huge servings of food I ate maybe a quarter of what I ordered if not less. Walking in there was no wait, the booth I had was comfortable and it only took maybe a few seconds to get waited on for my drink order. Menus are huge and there's a lot to it. There are also many drinks options but I just got water. My server who I didn't catch the name of was quick to grab me what I asked for and helpful when I asked questions about the food and desserts. Everything tasted fresh and made well and with care. The music they play is very subtle and there is no noise from the kitchen or anything. It's a cozy environment that I really enjoyed. I got the tempura ice cream and it was great. I highly recommend getting the ice-cream there is also tempura cheesecake that I didn't try but it might be a good bet if you like cheesecake it's definitely good to try tempura desserts for a first time here. All together it's a 10/10 for me. I had no issues I spent about 58 dollars there and I made sure to tip relatively well. I highly recommend it if you enjoy seafood or any Japanese food that's great quality.

We went in this place based on daughters recommendation and I find that the cooks comedy routine and the fact that they cooked your food in front of you were pretty much the highlight of the event. I mean the dishes prepared were much the same as any Chinese restaurant without the exuberant price tag. The tip for the chef and waitress were also separated ( she brought us drinks and took our orders) while the cook did the rest.

Hello I went these morning may 25 2023 to celebrate with my girlfriend because she got a new job and figured we go somewhere nice and clean and it was are first time going and hoping to enjoy our time so as we were seated they turned the stove on and not even 5 min later we seen cockroaches I was able to take a picture of one and didn’t expect these to happen for a restaurant that has goods rates and for the prices u would think you would get better service and not have to worry about insects or stuff being dirty I told the workers on of the killed it but never clean the table after no one seemed to worry about it because that’s is serious if there is one cockroach that means the place could be infested with cockroach’s also makes the food a high chance of being contaminated

My wife and I enjoy the teppan-yaki food here. The cooks here always put on a great show, the staff are quite friendly and the variety is very good. I was also surprised at the quality of their Stockholm martini! Highly recommend!
My two sole complaints are prices (but who doesn't want slightly lower prices?) and the fact that despite the menu saying they have it, there is NO ostrich meat to be had. Having worked in various industries (including food), if you aren't carrying a menu item- revise the menu to reflect that. Otherwise, Sakura Chaya is a fantastic establishment!

It was a pretty good experience. I have only done dined-in, not the tepanyaki. The sushi and service were fairly good.

The three of us did not like our food. Sushi rolls and gyoza all tasted weird. Small portions and expensive. $45 for 2 small sushi rolls and small gyoza! Ridiculous...never coming back here. They couldn't even finish their food because how bad it tasted. 1 of them got sick from the crab right after.
Waitress didn't even check on us.
Waste of money 🙅♀️

Hostess said it would be a 5 minute wait for regular dining waited 25 minutes then asked they forgot. Then we sat at table with no service for 15 minutes not even a I’ll be right with you. This place lacks customer service and the girls up front are too busy on their phones to care. We walked out

Waited about 1 hour to get served. Over-all teppanyaki experience is okay but to dine in with friends makes it more enjoyable and memorable.

The atmosphere was better than service, which was better than the food. The food we ordered was plain tasting or just didn't really taste good.
