Welcome to Benihana, a dining experience unlike any other! Our guests are seated at communal tables in groups, where your personal chef will perform the ancient art of Teppanyaki. Watch as we slice and dice, preparing a meal that will dazzle your eyes as well taste buds, whether you choose mouth-watering steak, tender chicken or succulent seafood. You can also enjoy sushi prepared by a talented sushi chef and indulge in a specialty cocktail.
I recently had the pleasure of dining at Benihana, and I can’t express enough how fantastic our experience was, largely thanks to our chef, Erick. From the moment we sat down, it was clear that we were in for a treat. Erick's culinary skills are truly exceptional, and his passion for cooking shines through in every dish he prepares.
What impressed us the most was Erick's attentiveness to my wife’s dietary needs during her pregnancy. He took the time to prepare her food separately, ensuring that everything was cooked to her liking and free from any ingredients that could be of concern. This personalized touch not only made her meal safe but also made her feel special during the evening. It's rare to find a chef who goes above and beyond in this way, and we are incredibly grateful for his thoughtfulness.
The food itself was nothing short of amazing. From the perfectly seared steak to the freshest vegetables and the delightful hibachi fried rice, every bite was bursting with flavor. Erick’s skillful presentation and entertaining cooking style made the dining experience even more memorable.
If you’re looking for a wonderful meal and an unforgettable experience, I highly recommend visiting Benihana and asking for Chef Erick. He truly made our evening special, and we can't wait to return for another round of his delicious cooking!

Happy birthday disaster. We came to celebrate my birthday. I was so disappointed in this location. I was first appalled by the dirty restroom. Then seated at a table w grease all over the walls, and floor was
super greasy. The chef named Rocky came to our table and was the most non verbal, ackward, cold, and no show chef I ever experienced. It was so strange she did not interact w us at all and then proceeded to cook our food in silence, no show at all.
The only positive was the attentiveness of the manager at apologizing for the service. He did give us discounted price. The cleanliness and service was appalling. We had over cooked shrimp that was not cleaned properly and burnt veggies at our plate.
We will never come back to this benihanas . It's a shame it used to be our favorite - no more.

So sad to see this Benihana location decline in excellence. I'm so disappointed that I'm writing a poor review. Where do I start? This used to be the place to go, not anymore. To start off, the restaurant is unclean; and it has an old stuffy smell. Walls are not cleaned, plates were not fully cleaned, they had residue and left over food particles. And don't even go into the restroom 🤢
Our chef, Rocky, didn't smile once (no exaggeration) she pulled her cart, spoke under her breathe, mumbled a greeting, not at all welcoming - awkward. She did not, at all, interact with the table (like, not at all). Weird, because we come here for a fun show and great food, but not tonight. The food is still okay.
This is our last time coming to this location. We'll be going to the one in Downey. Sad, because, I chose this one over Downey before tonight.
Save your money. Do not come here. You pay for great food and equal experience but tonight, we felt cheated.
**Update**
Our chef, Rocky, left after cooking our meal without even saying bye (again, no joke) unbelievable.
On the plus side, though, the manager was attentive after we brought it up to his attention.
But, still won't come to this location. Sad day.
Also, one of my colossal shrimps was not cleaned - the poop strand was still there (learned that from watching Gordon Ramsay)

I was attracted by the restaurant's Japanese architectural style, but upon entering, I realized it mainly offers teppanyaki, which I’m not very interested in. So, I chose to sit at a dining table near the bar and ordered sushi, a sashimi platter, tempura shrimp, a grilled salmon set, and Sapporo beer. Frankly, the dishes were average, nothing special. The sashimi was frozen and thawed, so the texture wasn’t great. The tempura was fried well, and the salmon set was reasonably priced, but the combination was a bit odd (see the picture below). The rice was delicious though. Overall, it was just okay.

Gave this place another shot despite previously vowing never to return. Here’s how it unfolded. We had a reservation for 4 PM, seated at 4:20. By 5:25, we decided to leave after just receiving our drinks and appetizers. We left because there were only two chefs handling five tables. After waiting for about an hour, the manager informed us that he would waive the cost of the appetizers since the chef was still 20 minutes away due to “traffic” and “parking” issues. The walls were grimy, greasy, and had remnants of food on them. The restroom was moderately clean. Parking was awful. Definitely lost a customer.

The food was delicious and was full with that I ate, but for the price seems like I was missing something, maybe it was the entertainment. Service was great. Automatically add tip on bill.

I visit Benihana‘s on October 13. Had a reservations at 3:30 for 9 people. We got our table 15 minutes later no problem I had some drinks at the bar meanwhile . We order our food but our cook didn’t arrive till an hour and 10 minutes later . we did not get our food cooked till one hour later. I called receptionist to let her know that we have been sitting for 50 minutes no food yet , she said she was gonna look into it . Our cook arrived 25 minutes later the lady who cooked her food was amazing, and the food was great. There’s no problem with that at all . The location wasn’t very full. There was about 5 empty tables. A problem was that we were not attended for over 50 minutes. If I did not called and let the lady know what was happening we would’ve had been sitting there for a very long time. Not an apology or anything was given to us, my brother-in-law was gonna leave since the kids were hungry and he needed to catch a plane so we had to leave really fast.

The food was really bland, and it took us far too long to finally get served. The waiter has helping with multiple other tables and had little time for us. Party of 10 for lunch cost $485 with mandatory 18% tip. Would have been fine if the food tasted as expected and service was better, but my experience here was bad.

I order to-go, and can't speak for everyone there, but there are a lot less people who work there smiling

I don’t know what happened to this place. It was cold food had no flavor and the wait was ridiculous. Only thing good was the friendly Asian bartender and her drinks won’t be coming back here ever again

Perfect dining for Christmas !
Visited 2 months ago
I set a reservation a week in advance in anticipation for them to be busy for Christmas just to arrive (15 minutes early) and be told I’d be waiting in additional 40 minutes.
What’s the point of offering reservations if you can’t honor them?
Also, the bathrooms are completely disgusting.

Have not dined at this location in approximately 18 months. The food was delicious as expected!! Portions were good and the service was excellent!! Wait time with a reservation was about 10 minutes which isn't bad. The prices on the menu have gone up significantly unfortunately. Additionally, the facility could use a face-lift inside and out to match the quality of the food and atmosphere that is expected when dining at Benihana.

I had an amazing time at Benihana in Puente Hills! Our chef was not only incredibly skilled but also super entertaining. He kept us laughing the entire time with his tricks and jokes, making the whole experience so much fun. On top of that, he was very accommodating, making sure to tailor our meals exactly how we wanted. The food was delicious, but the chef's performance truly made the night unforgettable. Highly recommend for a great dinner and a show!

Benihana in Puente Hills has been my go-to spot for years, ever since I was a little girl, and it never disappoints! The waitstaff here is always so friendly and attentive, making sure we’re well taken care of every time. The cooks are so much fun to watch—they always put on a great show! And of course, the food is consistently amazing. Every time I come here, I feel "at home" because the atmosphere is so welcoming and familiar. This Benihana will always have a special place in my heart. Highly recommend!

Went for my birthday dinner and I had such a great time ! This is my favorite location ! My chef was amazing I ordered the tofu and it was cooked perfectly. Also, he was very attentive to ensure my food wasn’t mixed with the meat he was cooking so as a vegetarian I appreciated that. The drinks were great, my server was attentive and I will be returning for my next birthday ! 🥰🥰

Amazing experience as usual. The cook and server were just excellent and make up for front reception, whom are somewhat rude. But it was our anniversary celebration so we didn't let that ruin it.

The server was great, and the cook needed to have some customer service training. Everybody had their food , but my grandsons chicken. The cook had it cooking to the side. So I said we were still waiting on the chicken. So I told him to cut it up so we could all eat together. He was rude about it. The restaurant was crowded and at that time only 2 cooks 6-7 tables. They need more staff or stop making so many reservations. I personally don't enjoy eating here, but my sons birthday. He wanted to celebrate there.

2.5 hours on a walk in party of 5 at Puente Hills...and they still tell me another half hour...maybe.
It's crazy. I walk in and they said it could be 10 minutes, or as much as 2 hours. I check back in an hour, they said 15 min and that they confirmed a table...but could be up to 30 minutes. 30 minutes and they say the 3 people they were going to seat me with, cancelled, but I'm up next, could be as much as 30 min...30 minutes go by and a totally different scheduler is working...I ask when we will be seated, she says, she's not sure...but probably another 30 minutes. I ask what happened to the original plan, over an hour ago. She says since the party of 3 cancelled, my party of 5 went to the back of the line.
Not getting any more of my father's day. They do so much business, they honestly dont GAF. As I recall quality has been slipping for years, now service is poor. I'm a great tipper, but I'm not paying big numbers for horrible service. Service starts at check in.

Made a reservation for 7:15 for a Mother's Day Celebration and checked in around 7:05, 10 minutes earlier. Ended up waiting till around 7:45 which didn't bother me as much. What did though was the fact that they tried to cram as much people into one table as they can. 10 chairs, 9 people. The family of 6 had an empty chair that they didn't want to move out of the way; rather, used it to put their purses on and keep at the table. Our end of the table ended up being very cramp with me sitting at the very edge of the table. Don't mind if they want to try to book as much people as they can but it's not so great that they cram so much people into one table. Tried to see if we were able to get another table that possibly won't have us cram but they told us that it would've been another 40 minutes if we wanted to. Decided we didn't want to be packed like sardines so decided to leave and eat at Baekjeong.
Not saying I hate Benihana but considering that we've been going to this locations for years now, recently this has started to become an issues along side with it being quite hard to get a waiters attention.

They forgot to give me my $11 fruit drink slushee. They instead gave me the identical $5.50 one I also ordered. I picked up my order when they were closing at 11pm. I didn’t call them back the next day because I had other things I needed to do. However, I am letting it be known, I ordered a $240 meal, had to wait 45 minutes past my pickup time. My pickup time was 10:03pm. I arrived late at 10:13pm. I didn’t get my food and incorrect drinks until 10:50pm. I asked if they could remake my drinks because I had one ice cream milkshake just sitting there in front of me for over 40 minutes. They said sure, only to give me the wrong beverages I ordered and they gave me ones that even costed less (half the price). On top of all this, they held up my entire order because they forgot to cook this $5 appetizer side, which apparently was also already included in my 4 person filet mignon meal, which were just an extra side order of sautéed mushrooms.
I feel I was wronged by this business plus they did give me just a mango lemonade when I ordered the strawberry slush specialty drink that I never got. My order was for me and my fiancé and my 5 year old son. It cost $240. The Benihana worker asked if I was DoorDash or some similar service since I looked like a regular guy, they probably didn’t think I would be the one who spends this $ for a dinner on a Tuesday night (weekday, I forget the exact day but it’s within 10 days of this review.). This is for the city of industry location. The chefs didn’t show an ounce of respect for one’s time and feelings, and the manager had not an ounce of sympathy or ability to see an imbalanced customer situation and have the empathy or moral to balance it out.
There was only one, yes one and only, one female employee who was genuine, concerned, compassionate, and aware of the wrongs of inefficiency and incompetence being committed upon my customer experience and my order. This lady should be the manager for this location. If she was, she would’ve made it right with me and do me right. She saw that my order was on the higher price side and that I was standing out in the awkward open for well over half an hour. It’s just she probably didn’t have any control of the higher ups who failed miserably.
If someone from HR or Steve Aoki reads this, please promote the very beautiful, slender, supermodel figure of employee who was even more beautiful on the inside because this person is aware and isn’t a sheep like the rest of her coworkers n cooks. I don’t know her name, but i hubby doubt there are that many supermodel body/figure/vibe/look Asian employees at the city of Irvine location.
Please reach out to me as I would like my strawberry slushee drink. It tastes oh so good yet I never got it when I was hoping to try it again for the 2nd time. Please re evaluate and up your service standards as a restaurant. Please promote the super beautiful Asian supermodel employee to save your restaurant and look good when doing it. Benihana is a visual sensory experience. Let’s hope if I try you guys again in Vegas or somewhere, it’s a more pleasant experience that I can feel good about and ultimately be happy and satisfied and not ripped off.

I have visited this location a few times in the past year during the weekends. Even though we always make a reservation, the place always seems busy and we have to wait even with a reservation. This last time, we had to wait almost an hour to get a chef to come to our table. Given the expensive cost of eating here, one would expect the service to be faster and better.

2024-03-21: Chef named Phillip. I’m not really sure on the name. Asian male around 5’6”. Concern: Dropped knife sharpener on ground, placed it back on cart where food was. Dropped food stub on ground multiple times, picked up and placed on cooking surface. Accidentally put another’s customers food on another persons plate, scooped it up, placed back on cooking surface, and then gave it to the actual customer. If it shocked me, I know it shocked the affected customers.

For how pricey it is.They really need to update the restaurant

I being going to benihana for valentines day for 10 years, and i never had such a bad experience as yesterday. We were seating at the back in the corner and the waitress forgot about us. Her excuse was that she tough someone else had the table. I got a mosquito in my drink and I was not able to get a new one. And of course I order a $10.00 dollar drink and it was overcharged.
Needles to say I paid $200.oo and was not worth it.

Dear restaurant,
I understand that weekends can be busy, but I was disappointed by the lack of professionalism displayed by the staff during my recent visit. We were seated at 7 pm, and the chef did not come to our table until around 8:10 pm. We were trying to celebrate my family member's birthday with a group of 9 people. I went to express my concerns to the manager because another table that arrived after us had already received their food. After discussing the issue with the manager, the chef promptly came to our table, and we were able to enjoy the delicious food. As I was thanking the manager with a handshake at the end of our meal, someone from my family overheard a comment referring to me as an "a**hole." While I can see why this may have been said, I believe there is room for improvement in your service. I had informed the host that it was my sister's birthday, hoping for special attention, but our experience fell short of expectations. Despite the excellent work of the chef and the amazing food, the overall service was lacking.
I will be leaving a review expressing my concerns about the negative experience. Your attention to these details would greatly enhance the overall dining experience for your customers.
Thank you.

Lackluster service and high prices for mediocre food.
Most of the reviews rave about the food here, as if throwing a bunch of salt, pepper, and butter is a revolutionary food experience.
What you’re paying for is the performance and service, but when you can’t even get a smile from your “chef” I don’t understand what warrants the high price mark up. After waiting for about 30 mins for the cook to show up he was unapologetic and was robotic through out the “performance”. Siri had more personality.
In addition to that the restaurant was absolutely filthy, with trash all over the floor. Adding to the already terrible experience.
Price over $650 for 2 kids and 6 adults. For meat that’s below average the quality from Costco. And ice cream that comes in the clear tub.
I do not recommend.

Very expensive for mediocre food and terrible service. The price you pay is comparable to a premium restaurant, yet, what you get is grilled chicken and steak with flavors that aren’t any more special than a Japanese fast food restaurant. I thought the pricing was high because of the show that they put on in front of you. However, the cook looked annoyed to be there. No smile, no eye contact, minimal interaction. We let him know that one person in the group had a shellfish allergy. He raised an eyebrow, sighed and it looked like it was an inconvenience for him to have to cook things separately cause of the allergy. He gave off energy like he didn’t want us to talk to him. It honestly ruined the vibe of the dinner. We ended up sitting there quietly. It was awkward. I’m not sure if he was having a bad day. However, it is disappointing when you are polite and pay a premium price, only to be sitting in front of someone that’s annoyed. Mind you, we paid more than half a grand for 6 adults and two kids to sit in silence and eat subpar food.

Every time I order takeout from here it takes minimum 15 minutes longer than the expected time, today they didn't have my order at all even though I have my emailed confirmation. This place used to have good service but it's declined drastically.
They wrote on my refund receipt that "customer no longer wanted the order" which is not accurate. The GM didn't even come out to apologize. What a waste of my time and gas!

Been going here for 20+ years. Jan 2024 had to be the roughest experience. I won't let one bad experience stop me from coming back but this trip was tough. Bathrooms were filthy. Service was slow and took a while. But I'm sure they'll fix these issues

Terrible food! Stay away if u like quality food. This place is extremely overpriced for the quality and taste of the food they sell. I was at Benihana's over 25 yrs ago and their food was good but not great. But today it is a totally different story from what it was in the past. The interior decor is old and worn out with some walls stained or missing paint. I bought 2 Seafood Marinas with 2 small appetizers and 2 drinks and it totaled out at $213 including a 20% tip. Beware! They charge you extra for the fried rice it's not included into the $48 dollar price of the Seafood Marina. The reason we ordered the rice was because we thought it was included. We were seated at the table and waited for about 15 minutes until the waiter showed up with menus. No more than 5 minutes had past when the waiter returned asking us what we wanted to order. We felt a little rushed so we ordered asap and that's when we missed the extra charge of the rice.
All in all, I don't mind paying a hefty price as long as the food is very delicious and the service is outstanding.
Good luck Benihana, you'll need it.

When you go to Benihana's for lunch, you'll get the flying cooking utensils, the fire, the corny one liners and the same good food and service you get during their dinner hours.
However, the one thing you won't get is a lunch menu. You'll need to ask for one (see picture), otherwise you'll get the dinner menu (along with the dinner prices).
Lunch comes with either salad or soup and no shrimp appetizer. We had the hibachi chicken, scallops and fried rice (gotta love that fried rice). All were cooked perfectly and tasted as you'd expect.
The restaurant is older and could use some "touching up", but clean otherwise. The staff were friendly and attentive as well.

We had reservations at 9 pm. Then we got seated around 930, and the server took our order... now around 10:10 our chef made it to our table. Over all the chef and server were good but the wait times are what killed me. My wife and I didn't get out till after midnight I had work early the next day I'm sure they were short-staffed cause I never had a wait that long. I'm ok never coming back after the last time.

OMG
Was my favorite restaurant, but after yesterday I will never go back,
I did spend over $200 for two people and we got the cheapest quality food we ever had,
Chef doesn't know a clue what he was doing, they forgot to turn on the grill so we had to wait another 15 minutes, again the quality and portion of the food was ridiculous, what made it worth the restrooms where disgusting dirty,
I should've took pictures of the quality of the food and the dirty restroom to share,
I was shocked how things were changed at this location,
😡😡😡

Love this place. I recommend making reservations if you're planning reading there during g the weekend or a special day like mother's day, etc. Most singers come with a salad and soup... both delicious. My usual is the Samurai Treat...highly recommend it. Comes with filet mignon and jumbo shrimp. So many good things here. Oh, I've been to a handful of these restaurants and they always seem to make a great Mai Tai.

It's disappointing to see the decline of this specific Benihana Restaurant, Puente Hills. Our reservation was for 7:45 pm, we were finally seated at 8:30 pm. The worst part was after being seated and seeing the accumulated debri along the edge of the grill. The seam had become undone and debri could be seen without effort. The undone seam was directly infront of our seats. We made our concerns know and were reseated at a different grill. I would have thought they would have closed that specific grill. I was surprised to see a different group had been seated after letting them our concern. Bottom line the location needs updating and is dirty. I took pictures but haven't figured how to attach to my review.

I ordered online for take out, $200 worth, even tipped 15%, and everything was put in one bag. I step no more than 10 feet away from my car and the bag rips, spilling the contents on the ground. WHO EVEN THINKS THAT PUTTING THIS MUCH WEIGHT IN A SINGLE BAG MAKES SENSE? WHY IS THE HEAVIEST ITEM ON TOP AND NOT THE BOTTOM? Plus my food is luke warm at best and my steak is cooked to medium when I asked for medium rare. The entree comes with shrimp and I get 3 pieces? This is pretty ridiculous. Furthermore, I was given the crispy onions for the soup, but there is no soup. So I just paid for a full meal and didn't even get the full meal.
Management, you need to do something about this and your staff. This is a complete disgrace and dishonor to Rocky's name and family.

It is better to make a reservation unless you do not mind waiting. As soon as I entered, I was greeted with a great staff with a great experience for dinner and a show. The meal that this place prepaires is outstanding. Great place for first dates or to make a great impression. Will return again!

My family recently celebrated my son's 16th birthday at Benihana, and unfortunately, the experience left much to be desired. The evening started with a less-than-enthusiastic bartender who seemed uninterested in accommodating our request for a mocktail (FROM THE MENU!) for my son. Despite the availability of non-alcoholic options, the bartender also denied our second request for a mocktail.
The disappointment continued when our obviously pre-made sushi appetizer arrived. Not only was the presentation lacking, but the wasabi appeared unappetizing with a disturbing brown-tinted crust, from the oxidation caused by sitting out for a long period of time. The sushi rice was cold and had an unusual coating, suggesting that it might have been pre-formed well in advance and left to lose its tenderness and freshness.
Then at the table: To add to our dissatisfaction we waited another 35 minutes with only water. As well, the timing of the courses was poorly managed. The hot appetizer was served only after we had already received our first two courses. This disrupted the flow of the meal and left us wondering about the coordination in the kitchen.
The teppanyaki experience, a highlight of dining at Benihana, fell short of expectations as well. Mostly because our chef had to leave the grill at least twice during the cooking process to retrieve additional ingredients. This not only interrupted the cooking show but also raised concerns about the preparation process in the kitchen. Furthermore, my Ahi steak was way over cooked, it should have been medium rare but was actually closer to well done. To his credit, the chef was entertaining and pleasant.
In conclusion, our celebration at Benihana was marred by a lazy bartender, a subpar pre-made sushi appetizer, poorly timed courses, and a teppanyaki chef who seemed unprepared (perhaps this was also due to the issues in the kitchen). While the concept of teppanyaki dining is usually entertaining and enjoyable, our experience at this particular Benihana location left us with a sense of disappointment and the feeling that the overall quality and attention to detail were lacking.

Made me wait 2 hours and then cancelled my order on DoorDash saying they were too busy to do it due to the party before me having too large of an order, even though I stated I was willing to wait. That makes no sense, you can’t handle a small order of fillet minion to go? Why wouldn’t you cancel the order earlier so then I could get another meal from a different restaurant?! Ruined my suprise dinner. Shame on you. Not even worth 1 star. Don’t waste peoples time.
Order under “S B”
Then when I called at 7:30pm on Saturday night, a rude woman employee answered the phone and put me on hold for 20 minutes when I said I wanted an explanation of why my order was cancelled. A simple explanation. Some employees you got there.

Very long wait, even though I had a reservation. They made us wait an additional hour and a half for just 2 people. I checked in 45 minutes before my 7:30 PM reservation and noticed the walk-in people were given preference ! (at least 20 walk-ins were seated before us ) We were seated in the back and there was three tables waiting for chefs . At the front desk you will find three young teens trying to accommodate people while horse playing. And they definitely don’t do a good job ! Expensive 5-6 course meals. The salad and ginger dressing slowly but surely have gotten worse in quality and taste. I’ve been coming to Benihana’s for at least 25 years. This is one of the worst locations. Sushi is never fresh. I’ve had the same mediocre quality fish at the Ontario location. Our chef overcooked my steak and burned zucchini, onions and mushrooms.

Honestly, don't even bother coming here. I made a reservation at 3:30 for absolute no reason because I didn't even get seated until an hour later. Yet I still didn't get any service until 5:30. Unbelievable horrible customer service. What's the whole point in making a reservation if they are not even going to respect it. All they would say was it would be 10- 15 min more every time I asked how long.
If there was an option to give zero stars, they definitely deserve it. It was my first time coming here, i had high hopes with this place, and I heard good things but never again coming here. Our waiter and cook were nice, but they gotta work on their reservation system it's so unacceptable.
