Shogun Sushi is a new exquisite Sushi & Teriyaki Restaurant serving the people of Sacramento. Stop on by our Newly Renovated location to experience our dishes guaranteed to surpass all of your expectations.
Had a great time eating here. Service was good, and the food came out fast. The sashimi was thick and good size. All the rolls I tried were good. I think it was called the Tina??? But lemon and salmon are so good. Beer served in chilled glass. Left feeling good about my choices in picking Shogun and the items from the menu. Check them out and give them a try.

GREAT place! It was my first time here and I came on the recommendation of some friends. We had an excellent meal. The rolls are delicious and the Thai chicken salad was amazing. I highly recommend it. The miso soup was not very tasty. Alex, the owner, was kind enough to make his rounds and he talked with us for a while. Really in tune with the future of the restaurant and his goals. I highly recommend this restaurant.

I’ve been coming here for 8 years. One thing is for certain, you can have the recipe, but not have the sauce.
I know this place has new ownership, so here is my experience, no greeting upon walking in, but noticed others being greeted.
Cold miso soup, chicken was over cooked and cold in the middle.
The manager with gauges in his ears has a mean demeanor. You can tell he doesn’t like his customers. I could feel him glaring. Matter of fact there were about three employees glaring negatively. Mind you we were the only table in there.
Their server and young, white male did not know the menu. He said they did not have honey chicken teriyaki. It clearly is in the menu, the he said he couldn’t add that to the everything bento box order, but when I ordered last week they said I can upgrade for additional charge.
We asked to have the chicken remade and they served me raw chicken. I will upload the photo, this is also how it was served scrambled and overcooked in spaces.
In use to having high quality chicken and it is normally presented well and beautiful.
The sushi chef assistant maybe Latin descent was staring without say hi or being friendly. I smiled said hi and he continue to glare with an evil look in his eye.
Find new staff or this will not last long. I don’t want to say they are cutting cost in the food, but what I received is the worst meal in the history of 8 years of coming here. I left extremely disappointed.

We had a team lunch here and it was my first time also. Restaurant wasn’t busy and looked nice and clean. There was only one server but he was super nice and attentive throughout the meal. We ordered sushi and everything was super delicious! Decently priced too. Highly recommend and will be back to try their bento boxes next time.

This is the spot I recommend anyone that is a sushi lover or wants to try sushi for the first time. Great spot if you’re from out of town and want quality sushi that isn’t overpriced. Staff and chefs are great! They can adjust the rolls to your liking and even make something completely custom. Highly recommend!

Came here for a pickup. Right away I could tell something was wrong. I walked in and was ignored so I took a seat and waited until the hostess asked me for who I was picking up. When I told her my name she picked up a bag off of the floor 🤢 and handed it to me. Once I got home I realized they missed a roll entirely but the rolls we did get were already room warm which was off putting. I called to get a refund for the missing order and she told me I had to go through the DoorDash app to get a refund. I checked my email and it said to contact the store with any issues about my order so I’m not really sure what to do here. The food also made us sick so that’s pretty cool.

Fish is good. I don't recommend their cooked entrees though. Ordered the stir fry noodles and they just tasted burnt and salty. The karaage wasn't that great either. I recommend for them to not put sauce on it so it doesn't get soggy. Fried chicken is supposed to be crispy.

Food was bomb. Like everything you order is exquisite. Fresh shogun should be the name. I usually eat about 3 rolls anytime I go out for sushi. This spot fills me up. My only bad experience was our waiter. When you are paying 100 dollars to eat out, the service needs to represent that. The other waiter picked up his slack. Still just bothersome. It doesn't matter how great the food is if the service is poor.

It was my first time there. My sushi was good. My friend ordered some, and it looked like they just threw on a gunk of mayo on her dish. I didn't get photos of our orders, but we ended up scraping off the mayo since it was just an excessive amount placed on it. It wasn't busy since we went as soon as they opened. She probably wouldn't go back, but I might so I can try other dishes. I just hope a gunk of mayo isn't plopped onto anything new that I decide to order.

Nothing special here. The time management is awful. If you place an order and they say 30min, you'll show up to them having not started your order and waiting for an additional 15 minutes for your order and to top it off the gyoza was cold. Isn't it supposed to be warm? Waiting for a fresh made order after all. This place was way better when Jimmy ran it.

Visiting from out of town and found this place on Google based on ratings. We were extremely happy with our experience. Came during peak dinner rush but we were seated right away at the bar area. The sushi chefs all greeted us and checked on us throughout the meal. We ordered a few rolls to start and they were so good we ordered more.
Visited July 2024 during 110+ temps and the AC was working which was a big plus for comfort, but also for food safety. Hoping to visit again next time we are in Sacramento.

I am extremely disgusted with my experience from this restaurant. I say "disgusted" because I was served ROTTEN TUNA on 6/11 and I have waited 8 days now for a refund (promised by Alex the owner)...still on 6/19 I have had zero communication since this incident.
I have gone to Shogun sushi for close to 10 years. I've gone there for multiple birthdays in my family, special occasions, as well as normal casual dining nights (it was easily the best in the area for such occasions).
Unfortunately, that is not the case anymore. Shogun has been run by a new sushi chef and staff for the last 5 months (according to the owner).
I was given ROTTEN TUNA. It smelled terrible and was placed in a box with all of my other food. I called and spoke to multiple servers and hosts and I was treated like I was the problem. It took 3 phone calls because people kept hanging up on me and/or dismissing the problem. One of the staff members (a host, who was a young man) told me my fish was "torched" which is why my tuna had a 'brown' color to it without checking with anyone. He told me such false information rather than escalating a problem to the chefs or managers. The fact that he just said their ROTTEN fish was "torched" and that was the reasoning for the color, and then to just hang up assuming he was right to do so is so alarming.
I also spoke to a hostess who put me on hold and then told me the sushi chef/owner will call me back. (Again let me remind everyone, this ROTTEN fish was in the box with my entire order and they didn't find it important enough to handle immediately.)
I wanted someone to address my problem before they kept serving rotten fish but it was very low on their priority list. I'm sure it's annoying and frustrating to deal with customers' problems but it felt very important to me to address food safety concerns but it didn't seem important to them at all.
It wasn't until I refused to leave information or stay on hold that I finally talked with Alex (the owner). He told me they were sorry and he would look into the order and they are just starting out (5 months now) and he would talk to the staff about food quality. He promised me a full refund on my order. It has been 8 days and I have yet to receive any refund, store credit, or even a phone call or anything else trying to remedy the situation. I told him my money was the least of my problems. My biggest worry was their handling of the situation and how little it mattered to the entire staff (hosts, hostesses, servers, and sushi chefs.) He assured me he would communicate with the new team and train accordingly. He promised me a full refund on my entire order, and yet It has been 8 days. I do not think this restaurant understands the severity of the problem or the gravity of their responsibility to serve food that is fresh when giving a community "raw" options.
It is very important to note that it only takes 2 cases of food poisoning in order to become a "food outbreak" with the health department. This establishment does not care about food safety, serving their community, as well as any form of understanding or respect.
I would truly discourage ANYONE from eating at this restaurant. If you enjoy quality fish, avoid at all costs. They serve ROTTEN fish and don't care to remedy the situation. Each staff member I talked to was dismissive and rude and acted as if I was the problem for calling to complain. I am never a Karen or Kevin. The entire staff from hosts to servers and sushi chefs all dismissed me. I was hung up on twice. Please avoid this restauarant. Life is too short to waste time or money on such a place.

It is the new Shogun Sushi. Got take out a few times. Always good. I ordered the 12 pc Nigiri (less than $2 a piece) it was melt in your mouth tender with perfect rice. The pepperfin is great and large portion, nicely presented, even to go.
I would have mentioned that the wasabi could be hotter, but, they seemed to have fixed that.
The Miso soup is a good value, too. Lots of onion and tofu.

Oh my! I think I found my new favorite spot. My chicken was sooo well prepared. The portions, the prices and quality- I don’t think any other place can match. Everything was clean. Bathrooms so neat & tidy. I have the most sensitive nose & don’t eat sushi, so I ordered their noodles and few appetizers while my friend purchased a roll. We loved everything and walked out with a smile. Service was nice and they were super careful with the food allergies /sensitivities I have. Definitely a must try when in Sacramento

Since the owner asked for feedback (which I appreciate!)... here it goes. We went to Shogun on Friday night... It was not busy at all. Our waiter seemed 'new' and he had an accent. Perhaps things got lost in translation... but here are my comments: We ordered our rolls and then saw them sit on the sushi bar area for almost 10 minutes. When we were finally served, we did not have plates, chop sticks, or ginger / Wasabi. We had to ask for these items individually. The plates arrived dirty. Meanwhile, we had to continue asking for soda refills... each time. (We were hoping for a nonalcoholic beer, but they don't offer any) It was KINGS play-off night and they couldn't get the game on any of their 3 LARGE TV's. 🫣 The music is loud and, in my opinion, a different vibe than what I was hoping for. As we sat there, we saw almost all the wait staff standing around on their phones and not paying attention to the customers. Finally... we ordered the Rainbow Roll. This was the smallest roll I have ever seen and I can hardly believe there were 4 different types of fish on it. For $16 each... our (2) rolls felt like a rip off. We also ordered Nigiri and still left Shogun hungry. 😐 Based on all of the above... I cannot recommend this place.

Shogun has blown me away! The chef and his team are talented, professional, and creative. The staff is on point and friendly as if they enjoy working there. I can't say I ever seen a new restaurant open up and have everything dialed in this fast! I'm excited and I return at least 2x a week. Today, my wife and I visited this establishment. Overall, it was an 8 out of 10. The place is quite clean and cozy, with a pleasant atmosphere and professionally prepared sushi by the chefs. The only thing that caught my attention was the somewhat unprofessional performance of the waitstaff. It seemed like they didn't fully understand what was expected of them. While the presentation of dishes was excellent, I wish some elements of the dish decoration were done in front of you rather than somewhere else. For instance, a dish like the fire ball involved the waitress carrying it through the entire hall with burning sushi (looks cool but simultaneously not entirely safe). In general, kudos to the team; they maintain a good standard, but like everyone else, there's room for improvement and aspirations to reach.

The place itself is cute. We enjoyed the deco. Unfortunately, the service was very slow and unorganized. We could tell others were annoyed as well, including a group that came in and waited to be hosted/seated for over 10 minutes. They might have been short staffed but honestly I believe they were just unorganized. The drinks and food took a really long time to come out. The sushi was just ok. It was fresh but the rice was dry. I think this place just opened recently so although my review may seem harsh, it's honest and I hope they get up and running better soon. I do have to say that our server was very nice.

Shogun Sushi left me thoroughly impressed! From the moment I stepped in, the ambiance was captivating, creating the perfect setting for a delightful dining experience. Alex played a pivotal role in making our evening exceptional. His knowledge of the menu was extensive, and he guided us through an array of mouthwatering options.
The standout recommendation from Alex was the Linet roll, and it did not disappoint. The combination of flavors and the freshness of the fish were truly remarkable. Each bite was a culinary delight, and it instantly became my favorite. The attention to detail in the presentation elevated the entire dining experience, showcasing the chef's dedication to both taste and aesthetics.
The overall quality of the food at Shogun Sushi is commendable. The ingredients were fresh, and the variety of rolls provided a diverse range of flavors to satisfy any sushi enthusiast. The commitment to excellence was evident in every aspect of the meal.
Beyond the food, the service was exceptional. Alex's friendly and attentive approach enhanced our dining experience, making us feel genuinely welcomed. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, contributing to an enjoyable evening.
In conclusion, Shogun Sushi is a gem that deserves high praise. From the delectable Linet roll to the impeccable presentation and outstanding service from Alex, this spot has earned a permanent place on my list of favorites. I'm eagerly looking forward to returning and exploring more of their culinary offerings. If you're a sushi lover, Shogun Sushi is a must-visit – highly recommended

New decor looks very modern and nice, albeit a tad bright. Tokyo Roll was AMAZING! Our server, I think his name was Daniel, was polite, knowledgeable, and accommodating. Great to see Jimmy back behind the sushi bar! Oyster shooter was also excellent. So glad this location is back and better than ever!

Nice quiet place. Friendly, good quality food. Open until 9 which is nice. TV's on sports😊

Come here all the time and the sushi is always good. Takes a while to get the food sometimes so it loses a star on service but it’s worth it for the taste. There’s always seating inside and it’s a good atmosphere.

In the evening of 4/21/23 we waited 30 minutes to even be greeted or acknowledged. Tried to get the attention of one of the servers, they kept passing by us to visit other tables. Once she came by we received menu's and she said she would be back with waters and to take our order. 15 minutes later she came back to take our order. At the time we were told it would be 40 minutes before our sushi would be ready.
We should have walked at this point but we were hungry, and at least the two of us were engaged in good conversation. It wasn't all that busy at the time but still, our sushi came about 35 minutes later.
We ate here based upon the reviews. It wasn't bad sushi and it wasn't amazing either. Just decent sushi. We just happened to be in the Fair Oaks area and stopped by. I don't plan on coming back.

Mediocre sushi; poor service; awful ambiance. Unfortunately I question the authenticity of many of the reviews posted here.

Masterfully prepared. It was a hectic night and the shop only had one chef. He was slinging rolls out. We had to wait a bit, but it was well worth it. Some of the best Sushi I've had around Sacramento and SF recently.

The food is great but we received very poor service. After the first meal came, the second one came 15 minutes later, and the waiters didn't really see concern, so I was forced to leave no tip even though we got the second meal for free.

I had a very disappointing experience with this restaurant when my husband and I recently ordered take out. The online menu they have linked on here (through Google Drive) does not have accurate prices. We paid ~$10-15 more than we expected when it was time to pick up our order. Be aware if you are looking at their online menu!
To the owners: please update your online menu, otherwise it is false advertising. Good sushi and close to where we live but we will not be returning because we feel the online menu is misleading.

The food was absolutely amazing and the owner came out and introduced himself. Some of the best sushi I have had in a very long time. Highly recommend to everyone! Lots of flavor and the fish tasted fresh!

Our favorite place to eat. The food is excellent. We are not really sushi eaters but the combo plate that allows you to order a CA roll, teriyaki chicken, and tempura combo is exquisite. The owner/chef is very friendly and involved wi5h the guests. We're not karaoke folks but had fun listening while we ate. Perfect family small business to support even though we moved an hour away from Carmichael we eat Japanese here.

The best sushi in sacramento again! After a long long long time not being here! Coming here and seeing the hard working owner/kingroller make masterpiece sushi rolls again was satisfying to the fullest extent!
Please support your local business, especially the ones that put time, effort and sweat into it.

I love this place. Great food and great service. There's not a bunch of drunk people yelling along the bar but there are great conversations to be had.

They have the roundy type of chop sticks that are pre-sperated.

Was excited to try out a new sushi place after reading reviews, however we showed up at 7:30PM on 10-17-22 and they were closed! Hours on Google show open 5PM-9PM. Tried calling them, no answer. Had to go to a different sushi place and it was great. Not coming back here.

First time in, ordered a lot with family of four.
- Salmon and tuna sashimi (top notch)
- Shogun special roll (crispy, crunchy)
- asked for a Chefs special roll (the BEST)
- soft shell crab (excellent, crispy)
- Pepperdine fish (tasty)
- green mussels (medium size)
- beef terrifyaki bowl (tender, juicy beef)
- udon noodles traditional (bland, so-so)
- 2x kirin large
Food came out quick, fresh, and delicious. The reviews in Yelp and here are accurate. Nice large portions of fish, especially sashimi. Balanced rice to fish rolls and NOT heavy sauced.
I hate oversauced rolls because they are hiding things either fish isn't fresh or compensating for lack of fish. Didn't experience that here.
The sushi chef Jimmy took his time to come over and greet us. Very friendly and personable guy.
The place is a bit warm due to triple digit heat (minus star), but they try their best to keep it cool and keep window blinds up (it looks closed from the outside).
Overall 5/5 will definitely return. I compared this location with multiple sushi places in 10 mile radius and this is a great value, food portion to quality. Highly recommend trying out.
