Relaxed, roomy Japanese dining room with a la carte & happy hour menus, plus a bar.
the quality of noodles were really soggy and when we tried to rehydrate the noodles it was pretty much a giant glob. the veggies are raw and uncooked and the chicken is dry like an 80 year old woman who hasn’t seen action in years. Don’t eat here it’s awful.

My favorite restaurant in all of Tucson because of the food quality cooked by the owner himself. Best fried rice and ramen in Tucson. The sushi was fantastic, and all of the food was extraordinary. Service was fast and very good. Prices are very good and I love the big booths. I've been to a lot of places for ramen in Tucson as of late. and after much review, this place still takes the cake.

Enjoyed our 1st trip here 7/10. Crab puffs 7/10, lobster roll 7/10, tea service 9/10, Mexican roll 10/10, chicken katsu 9/10, seafood sui (not pictured) 4/10.... seafood raman ? order mix up, however it looked nice. Service & ambiance was good as servers were really nice & apologetic for the mix up on the seafood. However, after they put in the refire, it took a loooooong time to get the "correct" item. Then, when we got the refire, it was not at all as described, completely different ingredients. That being said, we probably will go back bc the things that were good were on point.

So I first came here in hopes they did all you can eat, but that was discontinued. I decided to try it because I was hungry and had it marked on my maps as a place I wanted to try. Every cut was tasty and fresh. I’m a critic when it comes to sushi rolls, and this did not disappoint. The scallops topped on a shrimp tempura roll had a little heat but so much flavor. And the shumai was delicious. Would definitely recommend.

A great and reasonably priced sushi joint, for an Arizona town at any rate. ;) I had some lovely hamachi and a great roll with a large seaweed salad for about thirty bucks, which in this economy isn't half bad. The service was courteous and prompt, and I even had the chef come out to my table to ask me how things were. The hamachi was delicious, though perhaps not the tip-top quality, though again as good as any sushi I've had in Tucson. The tataki roll was fantastic, a little spicy (which I adore).
Atmosphere is fairly laid-back, though I imagine when the place is full it might be a bit noisy. Booths are not the comfiest, unfortunately, but they're not terrible either. Mid, as the kids say.

So far it's one of the best sushi restaurants I've been to, I've tried others and they are NO comparison to Izumi. The owner is a masterful chef and very nice. The sushi he creates is super delicious and he will make custom rolls for you. A must try if you love sushi. I will not go anywhere else.

I've been to this place several times and was always able to order what I wanted. Not tonight.
We decided to celebrate my girlfriend's birthday here. We ordered the boat and some appetizers. When ordering the boat the menu says there are various sashimis, nigiri, and two select rolls. We chose our two select rolls and waited for our food. Our server came back to clarify that we wanted those two rolls with our boat and not extra. We said yes. With the boat. She then came back to inform us that the two select roles would be the chef's choice. However the menu didn't say this. We clarified that we would just like the roles that we selected because we didn't want to eat something that we didn't order. She went back to the chef who sent her back out to us to tell us no. Come to find out that the chef is actually the owner. Not once did he come out to try and explain this hidden rule from us or why it's not in the menu. But he sent this poor girl, who it was her first day, back out to explain to us three different times some rule that we're just supposed to magically know. At this point we've been there for probably about 15 to 20 minutes and we're still confused as to whether we're going to get served what we'd like to order.
Considering the absolute breakdown in service and management and it was my girlfriend's birthday, we decided we would leave. I asked who was in charge and the sushi chef said him. I asked why he didn't come over and talk to us and explain this rule that's not in their menu and why we can't order what we'd like to order, why he made this girl come out and talk to us three times on her first day, and he just shrugs his shoulders at me as if to say 'oh well. I don't care.' Went back to making sushi and wouldn't look at me.
Really rude, condescending bad customer service.
Thanks for such an unpleasant experience on my girlfriend's birthday.
I wish I could give negative stars.

Long lost friend and I went here after show at the loft - chose the place primarily due to proximity to the theater
We decided to order from the lunch special menu - the rolls, while fresh, were pretty basic - nothing wrong with the flavors, they just don't give you the more expensive options under the specials
The food portions and prices WERE very good - you get plenty of food for the price - it's just not going to be the better combo rolls (which they DO offer for more money) - so, that being said, we DID have the choice when ordering, we chose the specials, and the rolls were OK - I'm going to assume their specialty rolls are better
They have GOOD by-the-glass prices for wine, and that is definitely a PLUS - the waitress was very helpful and patient - pretty big place inside, and at 2pm-ish, we were couple of the only folks in there at the time
I would try the lunch specials for the value, and no reason not to try out the extensive menu and specialty items as well on your trip

With so many choices for sushi i would suggest making this place the last choice. Service was unbearably slow, we waited an hour and a half for our food while watching others who came later be served. There was no ginger or wasabi provided with our dishes which are sushi staples and little of it was provided when we asked for it. The ambiance inside was dated and unwelcoming. We didnt get enough plates for our table when served and finally the food was just ok at best. Ive been to several sushi places around here that put this place to shame. To top it all off it was my birthday and the manger could care less and literally said a dollar discount was too much to provide for our dissatisfaction. 100% will not be back and i recommend you try somewhere else.

Waited an hour in the mostly empty place for my underwhelming and borderline gross sushi. Other people who came in after our table got their food and left long before we got our food. Mostly ignored wait waiting. Ran out of water. And did not receive Wasabi and Ginger when meal finally showed up. Never coming back ever!

Waited almost 2 hours for food for our party of 5. When it came, the rolls were falling apart and generally not great. My tempura roll was not crispy. Other people came and left while we were still waiting. No attempts were made to make it right besides next time 'well treat you extra special'?? We will definitely not be back.
It was our friends birthday as well, and they made no efforts.

They made us wait for ONE HOUR for our food; the food was not even that good; a couple of the rolls were not even fresh. They did NOTHING to compensate for it and basically kicked us out at the end after making us wait another THIRTY MINUTES for our check. HORRIBLE PLACE, NEVER COME HERE!!!

My partner and I have been here many times and hold Izumi as our favorite restaurant in Tucson! The staff is all so friendly and accommodating, and the wait time is next to nothing. The food is top tier, we have tried ramen at the many different places that serve it in Tucson, and none have topped Izumi's Spicy Tonkatsu Ramen in quality. The portions are also VERY generous! Any member of their staff that we have talked to has been very professional while also making us feel welcomed. Overall a 10/10 dining experience to anyone who loves eastern foods, we recommend it to friends often!

Went on a Sunday afternoon (about 2pm), and it was completely dead. We were seated right away. The server was very attentive but left us to ourselves for the most part – very appreciated. Other reviews mention high prices which is true, but it shows in the sushi. Good taste, well prepared. The owner or manager happened to be in that afternoon and checked on us twice and was very friendly. I think I'm pretty picky when it comes to sushi, and for a sushi place in the middle of the desert, I think this is a good addition!

Do not waste your time or money. Rolls are loose and fall apart. We had bones in our sushi. When we called and complained owner said we shook the containers too much driving them home. We purchased $175 worth of sushi cramed so tight in containers you could not get it out, so poorly rolled it fell apart. We had to eat it with our hands or a fork. Owner did not care. Plenty of sushi restaurants in Tucson that care and make much better rolls.

DON'T go to this restaurant unless you like GETTING RIPPED OFF. The menu says the Chirashi bowl comes with 12 pieces of sashimi. Instead the Sushi Chef gave me 7 or 8 pieces. The waiter couldn't care less. The chef went and hid in the kitchen as I was leaving. Oh yea, they think you, the customers, are stupid. BTW, "Izumi" is Japanese for "sucker."

Came in and wanted to get a couple drinks but was let down that they don’t have their liquor license. Would be nice if they had a sign on the door or something but anyway to the food it was bleh and took longer than what I thought it would when it wasn’t that busy in the restaurant. Kinda weirded me out seeing the sushi chef go to the bar and get a drink while an order was being rung in though… I don’t think that’s normal but I see where the priorities are at.

THEY NO LONGER SERVE ALL-YOU-CAN-EAT SUSHI!
Just making sure the right information gets out.
All said and done, Donovan, the only server I saw in the whole restaurant, did very well for being by themself. The food was another matter, however: I ordered Sushi-su salad, a tonkatsu entree, and hot green tea.
The miso soup side was pretty good , if a little salty, but I had barely started eating it when the entree was brought out, and the salad a few minutes after that, with the tea arriving last. Despite having a whole booth to myself, I found myself absolutely swamped with plates!
By the time I had finished my soup, the entree had cooled to just above room temp. The meat itself wasn't bad, if a little dry. The broccoli and carrots that came with it were completely dry, and the rice was similarly lacking. I don't know if this is a result of my taking a bit to get to the entree, but I digress.
The sushi-su was nothing like what I expected: it was a whole leaf of iceberg lettuce with halved cucumbers piled on top, and the various seafoods piled on top of that, with way too much vinegarette-like dressing poured over top. I don't think the description said anything about the salad being just piled in a bowl, but I mean... it wasn't terrible.
Lastly, the green tea. And yes, this deserves its own section. The green tea was TERRIBLE! I don't know if I misread the menu, but I assumed the green tea would be, you know, green tea. When I went to gale a sip, I noticed a slight salty aroma, which I chalked up to meal. But no, it has a very strong seaweed taste. I don't know what it was, but it sure as hell wasn't green tea!
TL;DR: 2 stars, but the solo waitstaff is kind and is doing their best.

Food was decent. I’ll give them that but we waited over 15 minutes to be seated then 20 minutes to have our order taken. Drink order came wrong but server was very kind about it and fixed the problem. Food took over an hour and a half due to such short staffing. The owner/ manager was the only sushi chef at a sushi restaurant on a weekend. Another table of diners just got up and left in that time saying they had waited long enough. We understood the situation and figured we would wait it out out of respect. After all of this we asked for any kind of discount or maybe a low price item to be removed from the bill and the poor server had to go back and forth with the owner/manager? to ask multiple times and he refused, making the situation very uncomfortable for us and the server who was apologetic and empathetic saying she was sorry that he refused. It was our first time there and completely ruined the experience which is unfortunate because we were hoping to find a new favorite since it is close to where we live. Dissatisfied is an understatement.

My fiance and I visited recently, and we had quite a good time. I don't eat sushi, but my fiance wanted some, and their menu had quite a few non sushi options. My fiance had the Vegas roll, and the staff was kind enough to accommodate our request for the sauce to be served on the side, and he liked the roll. We shared a plate of chicken karage, which we enjoyed as an appetizer. It was quite bland, but it was served with a tasty sauce. I had the dumpling soup for dinner, which my fiance also sampled. We liked the soup, the dumplings were good, although since there was only three dumplings for the bowl, it was mostly vegetable soup. It was good though, as was the atmosphere and service. Our server was Jenny, and she did an outstanding job. If we're nearby, we might come again!

The restaurant itself is in a great location and it is kinda near the lucky strike! Plus Dutch Bros for dessert afterwards is a nice treat. It has a decent looking style and the sushi bar is amazing! However, I was referred to this place due to the great reviews on the Tonkatsu ramen. Unfortunately, it is quite mediocre and just does not have that kick to it that you can get elsewhere. They do not provide a adequate serving of pork in the ramen, however, the broth is pretty decent. I got the Volcano roll and it was not bad, the presentation was in style! Overall, I could get better ramen at Raijin and better sushi from Sushi To Go.

*ROACHES*
My fiancé was a loyal customer here...until this weekend. We always had good experiences and we introduced several family members and friends to this place, but once we learned about their roach problem, we will not be returning. We sat at the counter and saw little baby roaches scrambling in front of us. We showed the waitress and she looked embarrassed and apologized and said they have been having issues and are working to resolve it. She stated, they spray and sprayed earlier that day. **So they're aware of the infestation..gross.** They moved us to a table and brought two of our appetizers out. The seaweed salad smelt fishy but we brushed it off. We began eating and I started to get more agitated and I told my fiancé I was ready to go. It was just dirty there but of course he wanted to give them the benefit of doubt (he LOVES this place) and he tried to see if maybe they could accommodate us with a discount or voucher. They told us all they can do is move our table, no half off, no discount, verbatim, "We can cancel your food and you can leave, or you can stay and eat". So we decided to cancel the food and leave. They wouldn't let us leave without paying for the food that we couldn't even get down...but in good conscious, we paid for their (lack of) service and will happily take the rest of our money to people who value his loyalty. It was a hard decision but, yeah...we won't be back...
Coincidentally, we woke up with the bubbleguts and some the next day, thank goodness we did not eat all of the salad.
Note: We would have taken photos but by the time I decided to leave they cleaned it up AND we were trynna be respectful and not embarrass IZUMI in front of their other customers. They didn't care so..here is our honest review.

This is the worst Japanese restaurant in town.

While I miss the all you can eat buffet, I still love coming here and ordering a variety of rolls and appetizers. You really get what you pay for. Portions are big, flavors are great, staff is really friendly, and very quiet relaxing atmosphere.
Recommend their unagi, lion king roll, dragon roll, and of course the appetizers are all good.

Decided to give this restaurant a try since we pass it quite often.
Only one waitress handling 3 tables so we had to wait over 30 minutes for miso soup and salad. Only reason we did get our salads and soup is because the owner James came out and assisted the lone waitress. We were told that the waitress was new and tried to show some empathy, yet that was hard to do since she kept disappearing. The sushi we ordered looked like my grandchild made them. Mind you there was a young man behind the bar making fresh sushi to order so that’s quite unacceptable. Only reason I’m giving a 2 is because the owner tried to accommodate us but his efforts didn’t do much to make the visit better.

The food is awful. The sashimi is very unfresh. This is not a suitable place for Japanese food at all. The worst Japanese restaurant I have ever been to in Tucson. Also, when we told the manager the sashimi was not fresh, he told us never to come back again. That was very mean.

Absolutely the worst experience ever! We waited for over 45 min for our food to be served, Edamame was extremely salty and tasted like perfume, sushi also had a perfume taste to it. We ate 1 piece of sushi roll and 2 pieces of another roll and felt sick, the salad looked and tasted like dry weeds. I expressed to our server that we weren’t satisfied with the sushi and she went to talk to manager which said “you ordered it so you’re paying for it and i don’t care if you don’t like it !” I couldn’t believe it. The manger didn’t even come over to speak to me about it…. I will NEVER go there again and at this rate he’ll be outta busy very soon

Expensive, low quality sushi. Awful service. Long waits.
I can stand long waits and bad service if the sushi is good. But at Izumi they make you wait for terrible sushi and they don't even give you napkins or chopsticks.
When we got to Izumi, we stepped inside the hot lobby, waiting to be seated with other people who were waiting for their backed up take out orders.
The interior design looks like a sports bar and the atmosphere felt uninviting and drab.
It took 5 minutes for someone to even register that there were people waiting but the restaurant was nearly empty with just two tables and 4-5 servers.
The frenzied host/server/bartender hurriedly greeted and sat us and brought us drinks. They were out of cocktail ingredients so the guy made us a double strength margarita and a beer.
The server ran around like crazy but never seemed to be doing anything. After he took our order, he never refilled our waters and never brought us napkins and chopsticks, didn't update us on our order, nor did he offer edamame or miso. Just really uninviting and shoddy service from the get go.
We just sat there then for about 45 minutes and nothing came out. There was only one sushi chef and he wasn't communicating with the wait staff.
After an hour, a dried up sushi roll landed on our table but we still had 3 more to come, so we decided to cut our losses and take the rest to go.
I can tell you that the sushi they make here is awful. The rice was dry and flavorless; the center of the roll was just one of those imitation crab meat sticks. The fish on the outside was not cleaned and looked old and smelled funny. It was honestly worse than 7-11 sushi.
All of that for $64 plus tip AND the server got my order wrong and left out a sushi roll, which was for the best considering the rest of the sushi tasted disgusting.
Don't waste your time or your money.
Izumi, if you read this, for the love of God, get your stuff together.

I love this place!!!! The green muscles, spicy california, dynamite and the crunch rolls are my FAVORITE!!!!

The food was sapar to be honest, I haven't been there before and my sister said it was yummy so I was like bet and it wasn't. The wait was so long for our food, I ordered two rolls, the Vegas roll which by the time they bought it out, it was cold and it was fried which means it had just been sitting out before they finally brought it out. And we all waited for 40 minutes or so just for the Dynamite roll to come out and that was the saving grace. It was good, alot of mayo on it and it was actually hot. Then after they bought us the food, they just stopped checking on us or seeing if we needed anything. We sat there for 20 minutes before they came over to get us our checks. I was hoping for a 10/10 but I would give it a 5/10 and thats on cap! (Which is slang the young people use)

So far it's one of the best sushi restaurants I've been to, I've tried others and they are NO comparison to Izumi. The owner is a masterful chef and very nice. The sushi he creates is super delicious and he will make custom rolls for you. A must try if you love sushi. I will not go anywhere else.

Kim was a sweet and respectful server. The service was a tad bit slow and it took several trips to get our table of 5 all of the food. But it was a nice experience. Great sake!

The restaurant was very nice on the inside. The server was sweet and welcoming. I ordered some nigiri sushi and it was delicious. I had some junmai sake and it was sooo good.

The food was pretty good, had a sushi Deluxe Combo and some Edamame, the price was good for what we paid. The atmosphere, though, felt off. We were there 2 hours before closing and the place felt closed already. It feels like the aesthetic attempt is for a sushi sports bar and it's not quite reaching that.

The sushi was not the best quality and the beef fried rice was bland. Also, the service was pretty poor. All in all not the best experience. This was my first time eating at this establishment and quite honestly it will be my last.

Got seated right away....so far behind and away from others that waitress didn't see me. Menu had fair assortment. I ordered Asahi light, waitress came back to tell me they only have kirin lt after a lengthy wait. I ordered shrimp Udon and there were all of 6 teeny shrimp in it. Flavor ok. Ordered "puffs", worst I've ever had, pitched them. Stir fried rice flavorless but plenty of it. Had to flag someone down to get bill. Checked out sashimi at bar, looked old and dried around edges and not much assortment so didn't have that. I won't go back.

The sushi did not taste fresh at all. I know we are in AZ, but still. The menus are falling apart. Service was okay. The waiter we had was off the game even though there were only 4 people in the restaurant.

I tried to pick up a to go order and customer service is HORRIBLE. I should mention i came to the store when it said it was ready for pick up. I walked in and stood for about 10 minutes while multiple employees walked past me repeatedly. I made eye contact with the people walking by and the cook behind the serving bar several times, and even tried to flag them down, but they wouldn’t even acknowledge me. Its not busy at all. Maybe one table with 2 people at it. I had to go back to my car and CALL them to get an answer about my order. When I called they were very short and irritated just repeating "I SAID ITS NOT READY YET"
I've been sitting in my car for over 45 mins now and I have NO IDEA when or if they are preparing my order.

Ever since Izumi came under new management, its never been the same, which is so unfortunate since it was my favorite sushi place. Now you get food that is dry and overpriced :'(

I ordered Dynamite and Vegas rolls. I didn’t know Dynamite roll supposed to be deep fried roll base… I guess their roll recipes are a but unique but not the best.

So now this is my own personal opinion. Yes yes I went to the sushi place a lot. Almost a month and a 1/2 straight by 2 or 3 times a week. It's been a while since I've been able to go back. So if you were regular You might have the same experience I just had. The food is not the same by any means. The food used to feed my soul . Now all it does is feed my toilet.

I have worked in the service industry most of my adult life and I am so disappointed by the service we got. We waited over an hour (not an exaggeration) to get our food. No communication, no apologies, nothing. The sushi was definitely not worth the wait either. Unfortunately we will not be coming back.

So the last time I was at Izumi’s a quick meal turned into a 2 hour ordeal because of very, very slow service. One of the servers actually recommended I write a bad review for the restaurant because the chef was causing such a backlog.
New ownership/management later: still the same. Ordered at 7:30 for takeout. Food was supposed to be ready by 8:19 - 8:29. I arrived at 8:25 to be near the middle of the estimate. It is now 9 p.m. and my order hasn’t come out.
The restaurant isn’t too busy.

Food was ok but service was lacking. Probably not entirely their fault since nobody wants to work anymore.

I went in to pick up, waited 30 minutes and my order was still not ready. I was understandably upset and asked why it was taking so long. I was ignored by every single staff member.

The food was good. It was different because instead of everyone's food coming out at the same time it came out individually with a lapse in between. Which was unfortunate being we were a good sized group. This was due to there only being one cook working. Our waiter was good.

Oh my god…the mackerel was dry, yellow, and stinky. It was actually rotten or gone bad I kid you not. The oysters I ate one and crunched on ice. I didn’t finish anything and luckily they didn’t charge us for the bad fish, but I’m in shock. This is the worst sushi I have ever eaten or seen in my entire life, hands down. Having stomach pain already, I hope we don’t get sick from this, seriously bad raw fish is a health hazard and I’m going to look into reporting this restaurant for food safety.

I have eaten here and liked the food, but I will NOT be going again. the owner recently fired a close acquaintance of mine after learning she was pregnant. Excuses were given by the owner as to why she was being terminated considering her "condition" as a "risk", but she had no issues until AFTER she divulged this information. So at the very least DO NOT WORK HERE.

Was a bit disappointed seeing as my wife and I would eat here quite often a few months back. Returned last night, the sushi and miso soup was fantastic, but our ramen lacked any sort of flavor. The miso soup was full of flavor, yet the miso ramen tasted like water. Was very sad, because before the ramen was so good and bold! The softdrinks were flat as well, so unfortunately I had watered down soda with water ramen. :(
My recommendation is definitely eat here for strictly sushi. Very good sushi, very good miso SOUP. I don't think ill eat there again, but we will do take out so my wife can enjoy the sushi :)

It was a chill spot ,loved the dragon rolls, just wished that it being empty not to pust customers next to each other when there are so many open tables

Decadent and rich Japanese flavors throughout the fresh dishes. The Poki Bowl, Vegas Rolls and Nigiri Sushi were fabulous mixed with great service from Julien and his team. Thanks for helping us out on some order miscommunication and with icy shots of Jäger 👍🏻

Sat for over 20 minutes while the waitress and hostess walked past us repeatedly and deliberately ignored us. We had closed our menus and made eye contact with them several times, and tried to flag them down, but they wouldn’t even acknowledge us. It wasn’t busy. The restaurant was only about 30-40% full. We ultimately left because we didn’t want to pay for a sushi dinner with inattentive staff while we were quite hungry.
We haven’t been to Izumi since the beginning of the year. It was always delicious before. Perhaps there was a complete change of staff.
Additionally, the menus were inconsistent.

The mixed drinks were top notch, the sushi was delightful. The ramen was a bit deceitful in the way that they were miso noodles.. not ramen noodles and they were a tad bit over cooked. 😭

This is the only place I will go for Sushi! I absolutely adore this restaurant 😍🤤❤ Their food is ALWAYS done to perfection and is beyond fresh. And the staff are so wonderful and friendly every time. I always look forward to eating here, it is by far my number 1 favorite restaurant.

It's good food for the most part, some sushi seems/feels a bit cheap despite the price. I've ordered ahead, dined in (pre-covid), and ordered delivery and never encountered an issue. Good service and good happy hour deals. I'd recommend the Las Vegas roll, smoked salmon nigiri, salmon teriyaki, and grilled pork belly buns. This place serves white tuna/escolar, I would avoid eating it altogether. If you do try it, don't eat more than 1 portion or you'll get a stomach ache.

The food was good, a bit pricey but delicious, to me the most value was the combination fried rice as it was big and filling
