This place is an absolute disaster when it comes to customer service. I wouldn't even give them a score; I'd rather assign them a staggering -20 out of 10.

Upon entering, the waiter had the audacity to tell me to sit anywhere, but every table was either occupied or filthy. I begrudgingly settled at the bar, hoping for a glimmer of hope. I waited and waited, and guess what? No one bothered to bring me a menu. Frustrated, I had to get up and fetch the menus myself.

After a torturous 15 minutes of being completely ignored, I realized that waiting for someone to acknowledge my presence was a waste of time. I left without even knowing if the food was decent because the service was so atrocious. I have zero intention of ever returning to this pitiful establishment.

My wife ordered take out tonight on their website (not an outside company like Uber Eats). The estimated time was 30 minutes. When my wife arrived after 30 minutes, she was told it would take 25 more minutes. There were only 4 tables seated in the restaurant. When she got home with the food, we noticed that they shorted us 2 rolls that we ordered. My wife called and was told that she needed to call the website number to request a refund. When she asked if they would call and handle it, she was told “no”. Also the rolls were pretty small compared to other places in the area. My wife got some salmon and thought that the first bite was kind of fishy tasting. Looked at the salmon rolls that we got and it looked dark and old and when we opened it up, there were brown parts on the salmon. Not very fresh at all. This placed used to be pretty good but not anymore. Not going back.

We were a little disappointed tonight. We've been coming here since 2015 but it's been a little bit since we were last in.

Our bulgogi bibimbap was lacking flavor, although it was hot. Didn't taste the same as I remembered it. We got the 22 piece nigiri and everything just tasted the same and bland. My sesame seed balls were delicious and warm. The service was good! We were able to pay with our card, but saw some other tables requested to pay cash or venmo. The water was quite odd tasting too!! The food quality did not match the prices paid.

Disappointed that it's not the same. We'll give it one more try as a redemption but will give it some time to improve before we return.

First of all, the food was AMAZING! I've went around to many sushi restaurants, and this sushi has to be some of the best! My rating is not because of the food. The issue was with the service, (not the waitress), but you can tell there is a management/organization problem. Sticky menus, sticky tables, They were out of multiple things, something I can't remember that we tried getting, out of miso soup, and out of chicken. 3 people at my table- the first got their food legitimately 20 minutes before the last person. I got 3 sushi rolls, they brought me someone else's order, before realizing and brining me mine... Which I'm not complaining about, I got 5 rolls lol. Infact I liked the other guy's even more than the ones I ordered. :) sadly can't tell you what they were, but they were deep fried. I was fine with it, but be prepared because they only do Venmo, Zelle, or Cash. Overall, not certain if I'll go back or not. I may, hoping the kinks were a one time thing, however, it seems like it's a bit more of a problem than that. The food was just so good that I may have to anyways- plus there's a chance of getting someone else's food too! 🤗
I just try writing honest reviews to counter all the 5 star ones, and nice reviews to ballance all the negative ones, additionally giving a little praise and a little criticism for the Business to improve on. Overall, I do recommend you visit here if you are looking for some good grub, but maybe put it on the try later list if your having a 'higher stakes' evening. :)

One thing I’m going to say, the wait times are horrendous. I am totally understand being understaffed but you need to let your customers know when there is an issue with wait times! Waiting almost 1 hour 30 for a single item to go order is insane and when asked how much longer it would take, they just simply replied with “we don’t know”. No communication from the kitchen to the front staff and no ETAs from how many tickets there were either. If there is a bottle neck or not enough people working, stop taking to go orders or just make your customers aware please.

I've been coming here for years. The sushi's delicious and the cooked food is top notch. If you like soup try the soft tofu soup. Happy hour options are pretty small but the prices are too.

Had spicy yaki udon for takeout. Wait time wasn't too bad, considering it was the weekend. However, the food was very disappointing. Flavor was bland, ingredients (seafood) did not taste fresh, and udon noodles had stiff/hard strands. The portion was very small for the price.

This place was so delicious. Service was weird for me. You have to order through the qr code on the table. Good If you done like interaction but I'm not a big fan the table filled with plates and cups and I didn't know what to do with them.

We have been to this place so many times, and every time it is amazing. Having tried many sushi places in Arizona, this is our go-to and the best we have found here. Great prices, great rolls, and accommodating. Recommend 10/10.

Been coming here since 2021 because of ironman. I don't know if it's new owners or what but the quality has gone down tremendously. Our server was terrible, food quality disgusting and they changed the pricing on our check.

Ate here for the first time last night. Food was exceptional. I’m kinda a sushi snob and everything here was delicious. I saw rolls I’ve never seen before. Not like the basic stuff. It was cool to see. It was very busy and they only have one sushi chef but he remained calm and focused. Still got great service. The music was also great. Would come back!

I wanted to live this place so much. The atmosphere was great. You can tell that it is a local favorite. It was busy when we went for dinner. The menu was well laid out, and the prices were very reasonable. There can not be enough said about our server, Jenna. Whatever she's being paid, it's not enough. She was seating people, waiting and bussing tables, which were all full. She knew which menu items were out of stock and helped us find suitable replacements. She helped us save money by waiting a few minutes to order until happy hour started. Long story short, she is amazing. She definitely knows her job.

The place, however, was a mess. There was food and chopsticks on the floor. Because the restaurant was so understaffed, there was no one to clean up all night. The floor stayed dirty. We had to ask Jenna for toilet paper for the restroom, which also had no paper towels. There were high chairs for toddlers stacked in the restroom that were covered in food from not being wiped down.

Needless to say, this place has so much potential. The food tasted amazing. The service was ok even though it was busy. They just need more staff and a serious deep cleaning.

Came for my daughters Birthday dinner.3 out of 4 things we ordered the wait staff came back said they were out of. Ok so we order other things.waitwrbtoik our roll to the wrong table Soni said it's ok just cancell that order. He then said "it's already being made so of you don't want it I'll eat it."
Before our entries were served to us we got the bill.
ONLY CASH VENMO OR ZELLE. WTH that would be good to know before we ordered we only had card! He then Insisted there's a note on the door.
I'm partially visually impaired. There WAS NO NOTE. MY DAUGHTER ended up using her tip money to pay not all of use use transfer apps she found change in the car to make it just enough.
The udon Noodles were gummy & flavor was so gross.i took 1 bite left my plate at the edge of the table...my husband teriyaki chicken was cold, my daughters plate was mediocare. The miso was good & hot.
When I addressed the "no note" & explained I was unhappy with my meal the waiter just smiled & said oh ok have a good night.... My husband, my daughter & I have all worked in the food service Industry this is not how you take care of you patrons.We will never come back!!!.I'll be calling to get my $$ back as well. The staff was nice but that's all the good I can say

I ended up at this restaurant because everywhere else was packed, likely due to a university event. With a 4.3-star rating on Google, I figured it would be decent. However, my first impression upon walking in was that it felt dark and low-class. The restaurant only accepts cash and Venmo, which was a bit inconvenient.

I ordered a chicken katsu bento, and my friend got the temput udon. After 30 minutes, the udon arrived, but according to my friend, it tasted bland, almost like water, with just a few pieces of tempura. I waited 40 minutes for my bento, which turned out to be two separate dishes: crab stick rolls and a plate of fried chicken with some mixed tempura. To be honest, mine was just okay—not great, but not terrible either. That said, the prices were lower than usual, so I guess you get what you pay for.

Not the same. Sushi was not as fresh. Cuts were not good. Looked like they were put together in a hurry. Took forever to get served. Didn't have a few menu items. It has degraded from what it used to be. They need to bring some professional sushi chefs back. The sushi chef they have is an amateur.

I had a very disappointing experience at this restaurant. I found a fish bone in my salmon sashimi, the pork inside the Budae Pot was stuck together and that was quite of disgusting. Additionally, the server did not understand the menu and mistakenly took my order. After waiting 20 minutes, I was informed that several items I wanted were unavailable. Overall, the service was poor and the food quality was unacceptable. I do not recommend this place.

I had gotten miso and sushi during a late night run. Store closed within 30 minutes from when my order was placed for togo. The order was made fast and the miso soup was very good which was great. The sushi on the other hand was warm. I believe this was due to me ordering right before they closed. However this isn’t an excuse and if they can’t provide the same quality during closing as they do throughout their opening hours then they need to put a closing time on certain menu items.

I don’t ever write reviews, but the experience we had was so bad I have to say something. Overall, if you are a family trying to find a place for dinner, this is not a place for you. If you are college student or young kids, sure, go at your own risk.
Here is why I’m only giving 1 star:
Food: we were told the delivery truck messed up the order and they only have Japanese cuisine and tofu soup available. We ordered some veggie yakisoba, it was extremely salty, every, single, bite. We barely ate it. They have happy hour on Sunday which is great! But is it really cheap tho? $7 for a sushi roll, and the portion for the spicy pork and bulgogi is so small, we had to order a second round. For 4 adults and 2 kids, we spent $148 total. My mom did not eat anything(literally nothing) and my 4yo had two strips of the chicken katsu.
Service: there are only 2 servers for the whole restaurant. We have to waive the server down several times to clear out the empty plates. With 4 adults 2 kids(9yo and 4yo), they automatically charged 20% gratuity.
Atmosphere: It was okay. Located in a sketchy strip mall near the university, there is a homeless young guy lying on the ground next to the entrance high as the sky. Music was kinda loud and tables were sticky.

They didn't have half the food we wanted or even drinks that we wanted. Then the food came out and it was just burnt steak. They don't accept credit or debit card either and I had to use Zelle. Not to mention the music was too loud to hold a conversation despite us being the only ones there. Don't recommend at all.

Service and especially the food are always great, no complaints there. Only issue I have is their hours listed should probably also list their last call for food as well. We arrived at 940pm hoping to grab a few quick rolls and a drink but were turned away even though their listed closing time is 1030. No issue with the last call being that early but could of saved us and the other potential customers that were turned away some time.

My wife and I used to come here all the time, and sadly this place has gone down hill significantly. Used to be a great place with good food and a good atmosphere. This review's gonna be a lengthy ramble.

The restaurant is dirty and unclean, and recently we sat at a table by the window only to find several bugs crawling all over the place, one got into our food. This isn't the first time I've seen a bug infestation here. I've also found hair in my food more than once. It's overpriced for such small portions of mediocre food – I've had better from frozen, microwavable meals. You can find most Japanese & Korean dishes and appetizers on their menu for almost half the price that's better quality at several other restaurants. The sushi isn't that great either, and doesn't taste fresh. My wife and I are almost certain we got sick from a salmon roll there, and we haven't ordered it again since. Four times we've came in when they opened, only to be told their cooks and servers were running late, so we wouldn't be able to be served yet. One time it was a full twenty minutes past opening and the sushi chef & cook still weren't there, so we left. Often not enough servers either, this place appears to be understaffed to the point they can't function per their normal business hours. The servers here used to be very friendly and welcoming, the new ones as of late (especially this blonde girl) are extremely rude for no reason, and inattentive, even when our food's ready, sitting up at the sushi bar for minutes on end. I still go here only because my wife loves to grab a sake bomb during happy hour and takes me along with her – I would not recommend this place whatsoever, spend your money elsewhere. There are plenty of great sushi places in Tempe that are either higher quality, or are reasonably priced for mediocre quality food.

I recently dined at Gangnam Sushi and it was an outstanding experience from start to finish. This restaurant beautifully blends the best of both sushi and Korean cuisine, offering a diverse and delectable menu.

Now, let's talk about the food. The sushi is fresh, expertly crafted, and bursting with flavor. Each piece was a delightful bite of perfection. The Korean dishes were equally impressive, with rich, authentic flavors that transported me straight to Korea.

The food at this place use to be amazing. Every time I went food was on point (at least a few yrs ago it was). Idk if management changed or something, but the food quality went down and the prices went way up. Even the happy hr prices went up. I won't be a regular customer here anymore. The times I have dined in some staff are friendly, but most seem to just stand around and not do anything. No one ever came to fill up my water and I had to wait 30mins for sushi when they weren't busy at all. Huge disappointment. F-

Our family used to frequent this place often, it has gone down hill significantly since then. Saturday evening at 5pm we walk in and onlytwo other tables are seated. After 15 minutes we finally are able to place our drink order, and we place our food order at the same time. We wait and notice more people coming in, but there is NO sushi being served. 20 minutes later still no food has come out, and the manager is just sitting and watching the game on the TV. We asked another table how long they have waited for food and they said about 30 minutes. 45 minutes after placing our order, no waiter to be found, and no food served to any tables we left along with the table next to ours. I should have read the more recent reviews as this seems to be the standard experience now. Would suggest sushi 101 down the street, or Crazy Tuna. Will not be returning and suggest you don't either.

I've been going here for years. The quality in food and service has significantly dropped. There's 5 servers standing around doing nothing. Our server Ashley hardly even checked in with us, and in middle of service she disappeared. We weren't offered a refill on our water we waited 40mins for sushi. When our sushi was finished it sat for 5mins. Servers still standing around doing nothing. I had to tell them I think that's my order sitting at the sushi bar. The servers also kept bumping into our chairs everything they were passing by. Very horrible service. I won't be returning.

I visited twice so far, both for lunch. Service is slow and Arden (the waiter) never said green tea is a charge for each refill. Atmosphere is good. Trendy music is playing but it makes it hard to call the waiter when he is not looking over. Food is what you would find at any sushi place. I had the salmon bento box and the gangnum roll. The food tastes good, but is not special enough to come back for.

It is hard to find pan fried vegetable dumplings around here, and this place has excellent pan fried vegetable gyoza, loved it.

Took over an hour just to get rolls that fell apart. The servers barely noticed us we had to keep calling them over to get a refill of water. Ended up just leaving because I'm not waiting over an hour and a half for a mid meal.

First impression, we were seated on warn old torn leather. My shoes stuck to the ground when I walked so bad my flip flop actually came off my foot, 4 tables came in and all were served before my husband, I was severed before my husband as well and was able to finish my entire dinner before he even started his, that’s a first for me in 41 years of my life. Food was ok, not exactly as described. My husband ordered a spicy dish and it had no spice minimum flavor, the prices are to high for the quality of place and food served.

I ordered takeout and was told it would take 25 min and it ended up taking an hour,. Got the kimchi fried rice and it was legit one of the worst thing's I've ordered from a restaurant. There was zero flavor, it tasted like plain rice straight from the steamer. Super disappointed after waiting so long just to not be able eat it because it's that bad. Atmosphere is cute though.

A good go-to spot for dine-in and delivery. I love their seared salmon nigiri, and always gets the Hawaiian roll and Gangnam roll too. I only wish they had more non-spicy tuna options because the rest of the rolls look great but even the Gangnam roll can sometime be too spicy for my weak mouth lol. But they’ve always been accommodating with removing sriracha and spicy mayo, so I appreciate that.

I always come for special events here. The food and the services is always really nice. If you like sushi and Asian food, this is an obligated restaurant to visit. You will not regret!

Not a place I would recommend for sushi in Tempe. The restaurant is worn down from rips in the seat to wobbly tables. Came in for lunch on a work day, there were 5 other people in the restaurant, the wait time was about 20 mins from the time we sat to the time we ordered drinks. The water is clearly undrinkable and has a chemical smell. My friend had to send her iced tea back due to it being made with the bad water. We ordered 1 roll each and after 2 bites stopped due to the fish tasting not fresh.

Quaint Japanese/Korean place perfectly fitting our needs! We love Asian cuisine and it was not too busy when we were expecting everywhere to be packed! Bradley was an awesome server!
We had pork gyoza, spring rolls, and Jalapeño bombs for appetizers and the Japanese currency for an entree! Excellent food and an amazing atmosphere!

Food was very good, probably the best sushi I've had in Arizona in terms of variety. Music was a little loud, and it was darker towards the back, but the service was nice. It was a little packed so I'd recommend coming a little earlier than you usually eat.

Believe me, the food was great. The only thing i didn't like was the service. Drinks and appetizers took long to receive. I had to remind the server a few times.

The sushi is modestly-priced, considering the cost of sushi. It is also delicious and I highly recommend this restaurant. Unfortunately, The layout of the tables appear slightly cramped, but overall it is clean and welcoming.

Sushi rolls and Negiri were delicious as were appetizers. They have a nice Happy Hour menu. My only dislike was the 'Hamachi' sashimi. It wasn't Hamachi. Billy, our server, was awesome! It's located in a strip mall that seems slightly run down but once inside, it's all good.

This was our first visit to Gangnam, it was really good. Being so close to Gammage this could make the rotation we have for show nights. We split a crunchy Philly roll and Vegas roll. We also split a teriyaki chicken bento box which came with a California roll. It was all very good.

I normally don't get open like this but I can honestly say I have some of the coolest conversations with head chef. I call him hyeong-nim don't know if I spelled that correct but it means big brother. And he has been nothing but a good friend I only come here on my breaks and love his nigiri

I ordered a Salmon Lovers roll for 16.00. To my dismay 95% of the inside of this roll was stuffed with kani salad. With a dollop of hot sauce. Gangnam's menu is hit or miss.

Food was fine but service was bad. Waitress kept making mistakes from missing part of our order, to mixing up other parts, to forgetting to bring stuff, etc I was seriously questioning if she was sober. Later we saw her grabbing her stuff and leaving so we had to ask other waitresses to help us. They knew what they were doing and mentioned that our waitress was new.

Sushi is always great and so is the soju i wash it down with, even during happy hours. Been coming here for the few years and the food is always on point. Try the striped bass! 3 stars in the atmosphere area for cleanliness, air ducts are usually covered in dust :/

Went for a date night with hubby, our lady server was super nice and courteous! It was crowded Ofcourse because of college kids, but service was going on smoothly.

I was shocked watching the waitress make my " cocktail". Stale cling wrapped ginger was the mixer. The can had cling wrap on the top of it she used. Oh topped off my drink with a fresh can. Then used the same cling wrap on the new can to keep it fresh lol. Al dente tempura that was bland and flavorless. The spicy pork tasted off. Atleast the California roll tasted fresh. The cocktail and old soda was nasty. Buyer beware.

They are rude and have no respect for customers. The management and staff were absolutely rude, had an order for pickup, we arrived and waited over an hour. They kept prioritizing dine in customers instead of ever making our order.

Our party had several different dishes. One of us had the seafood stew - aka Korean hot pot (with what look like udon noodles). Another one of us had several sushi rolls, another bee bim bop, and I myself had the spicy chicken. Their sushi was good. I had a sample of the Vegas roll and was not disappointed. All of it was made fresh. The spicy chicken was absolutely delicious, it's one of my favorite dishes. Nobody complained about any of their food, and all of us had good things to say about the taste and flavor overall. This place has got a hole in the wall feel, and it's in a dingier strip mall. However, the prices are reasonable, the service was excellent, and it's what you would expect from a hole in the wall sushi place.

Everything was great especially the sweet shrimp I couldn't stop ordering it chased them down with a couple bottles of Sapporo made it perfect
The sashimi was fresh a huge and the ramen definitely made it worth the drive

Very tasty and I enjoyed their Korean dish and Sushi. I had the Bulgogi Bibimbap, tempura shrimp roll and pork Gyoza. The sushi was good and wasn’t overly filed with rice. Although it could use a bit more rice seasoning. The Pork Gyoza was perfectly cooked, crunchy and not soaked in oil.

The BiBimBap was a hit! I couldn’t get enough how tasty it was. I love fried egg on my bowl so I ordered an extra on top. It Made it extra special. It was evenly proportional vegetables and meat with the sizzling rice that had a crunch at the bottom. The bowl came with a side dish which includes the staple Korean Kimchi. I’m not fan of cabbage kimchi so I left that one alone. The others I devoured - nutty flavored bean sprouts which was awesome. Never had bean sprouts that tasted this good. thinly sliced Korean omelet and lastly the tasty fish cake.

I can tell this place is a local gem, a large party of at least 20 was dining and it looks like they were enjoying themselves. Service was also awesome even with a pack house they were promo and courteous with their service.

Sorry no photo. I was enjoying my food too much that I forgot to take a pre meal photo. The one I got was the aftermath! Lol

I would rate this meal a top 5 on my list of Korean food. This was definitely a highlight on my overnight trip to Tempe.

Went in an hour before closing. Put in a to go order at the restaurant and waited an hour in there. I see tables come in after us and get their food before I did. I ordered enough food for like 3 people. I got it 5 minutes before 11pm. If this is the pace they operate outside of their busy hours, I can't imagine how long it would take to dine in during the day. During that hour wait I was not offered water, an update on the time it would take, or even a discount.

They make delicious food but their service is horrible. I will not visit anytime soon in the future and take my money to a more deserving restaurant. No one should wait an hour for food this late at night.

Really wanted to like this place. Unfortunately our food took almost 45 mins. Inexperienced young staff is the weight staff. Experiences like refilling my sprite with water and not knowing what comes with my order.

We ordered miso which was good. My wife meal was ok and my dish took 40 mins and with all the apologies the chicken katsu was rubbery and curry was garbage.

I would strongly advise not going here.

Horrible!! Do not eat here!! When I received my food, the order was wrong. I asked if I could come back and return it for the correct order and then said no because the kitchen was closing. I asked if I can return the food to get a refund and they said no. I basically paid $20 for nothing. Horrible service!

I was so disappointed of foods, service and noises. I just want fresh seafood but it was not good at all. First misosoup is not soup at all it just water with salt and all my orders has cheap imitation crab meats. I went for fresh seafood I don't think I will never go there again.

The service is really bad, they never come ask if we need anything else after our food arrives. Will have you waiting on utensils, any extra sauces you may need, extra plates, they never come to your table. Shame because the food is good. They even forget to put in our food order and we come here at least once every week or every two weeks. Their servers need more training, probably won't be back for a while.

This is my favorite spot for good and affordable sushi and tempura. The staff is always nice, the food is always good. It’s definitely the best value around, extra points for staying open decently late!
