My girlfriend and I go here every month. The food is excellent and the service is even better. If you have the option ask for Adrian. She is well educated on both the food and sake menu plus she is excellent at balancing being attentive and giving you time to enjoy your meal/drink.

Kim was communicative and kind when accepting my request for a party of 17 in advance. It was my son's 21st birthday and I couldn't have chosen a better location. April was patient and handled my family phenomenally. Thank you for an incredible experience. All the cuisine was absolutely delicious! 🤌🤌🤌

DO NOT SKIP THIS PLACE

AMAZING! Literally everything here is incredible. The food tastes fresh out of the ocean. The cocktails are unique. The service and atmosphere, outstanding.

You cannot go wrong with anything on the menu. You can see my partner’s review to see what we had but we pretty much went with the server's recommendations and the chef’s choice omakase.

So glad my flight was delayed making me miss my connection so I’d have to spend the night in Phoenix because I otherwise would’ve never been to this place.

I’ve been coming here since they opened and they’ve been stellar the whole time. The manager, Kim, does a great job and is really passionate about sake and quality sushi. The chefs are great and the staff are all very helpful, knowledgeable and kind. I love coming here.

The omakase choices are a good place to start if you like nigiri and if you love umami, then I recommend trying both the kelp cured whitefish and seared miso halibut from the signature nigiri. The PYT and orange blossom dishes are delicious. Their rolls are also great if not very “traditional.” Don’t come here expecting deep fried stuff, it’s very fresh fish forward on purpose.

They also do fun events regularly. The sake classes are a fantastic way to get an intro to sake and they have a seriously impressive collection for the seasoned sake lovers.

Parking is a pain here, I recommend parking further away and walking over or taking the light rail or Lyft/uber. It’s walk in only and usually has some wait on the weekend, but you can call ahead for a waitlist or you can grab a beer at pedal Haus next door or across the street at wilderness while you wait.

What we ordered:

Appetizers : coconut miso soups
And seaweed salad

Main entrees:
Tetsu omakase
Nigiri: seared scallop
Seared yellowtail
Seared toro adobo
A5 Miyazaki wagyu
Chutoro
Crispy eggplant
Mushroom salpicao

Have to update my review after 2 years of it being open or soo, used to come a lot when it first opened haven’t been in a year went in and ehh, my omakase I get I had a piece that seemed like they cut it off of the end of the fish as half of it was dry and crunchy disgusting for nigiri wtf, as well as my fatty tuna having two layers oddly ? And then another piece had discoloration on it like it was bad wtf happens to this place ? The owner doesn’t seem to frequent as much as before maybe that’s so ? Every nigiri we ordered tasted like burned meat or torch it consumed the flavor of the seafood that was labeled “seared” I get the other reviews that mentioned it before now , partner said the eggplant nigiri was surprisingly good , and the wagyu nigiri we had was good a bit chewy , there new appetizers are good tho def has changed a lot on the menu but I’m dropping this place a star over the quality as before it was better

This is a great little sake and sushi place on Roosevelt Street in downtown Phoenix. It is small, but they have an awesome menu. I opted for a cocktail. I had their cucumber infused negroni. It was fine, but was the only thing that was less than perfect.

The menu items we tried were all really exceptional. The hot eggplant miso nigiri was delicious and such a surprise. I had the chef special nigiri. This was marvelous. Each one has its own special funky flavor twist. They also do sake flights. They are nice pours and great choices. If you tell them your flavor preference they really know what they are serving.

The service is fantastic, and the atmosphere is energetic. I would go back to Sake Haus in an instant. I really think it is a great place for sushi and sake. And it is also lively and fun.

Some of the nigiri was really good. Some of the sushi was too. But a lot of it was not to my taste. And the menu was much smaller (selections) than I was used to. If you want the popular rolls (philly, Vegas, Cali, etc.) this is not the place (thats on me for not checking the menu). Also, it took our waitress a long time to come back for everything, including the bill. Then again, I didn't see one other waitress there, just her and a bunch of young helpers to help everyone. The nigiri is $5 a piece. I could eat 20 of those. Also, if you want soy sauce, you're required to try the food without it first. I personally wouldn't come here again. Just too expensive for what you get In my opinion.

Had been wanting to check this place out since it opened.
First, this is not a traditional sushi joint. No soy sauce, wasabi, or ginger at the bar or tables. Sitting at the sushi bar? Don't expect to order sushi through the sushi chef. Gotta flag down your waiter. Ordering nigiri? Expect to get one, for the cost of what would normally be two.

What little sushi I did have, did taste pretty decent. And it did look like they put forth an effort and used quality ingredients.
I guess if you're looking for hipster vibes and a high priced menu you'll love this place.

Went in very excited for sushi and a nice happy hour. Upon entering I was “warned” that no American style tempura sushi or non traditional ingredients would be used. It felt a little weird as I knew what style restaurant I had chosen.
First half of the meal was delicious! Both cocktails pictured (Silk Road and Crimes of Passion), 2 mushroom miso soups, and an order of gyoza was an amazing starter.
Sushi itself was extremely disappointing as the ONLY ones to not taste like butane were the veggie nigiri.
Once you get past the torch taste it had really good potential to have authentic Japanese flavor. The menu feels misleading as it does not specify that they “grill” and “sear” by torching the food. I would not have ordered sushi if I had known.
I let the waitress know about my disappointment and paid the full tab. $55 went to the first half and veggie nigiri- $39 for happy hour Maki and full price nigiri. Ultimately this restaurant is not somewhere I see myself going again if I’m craving traditional food.

I’ve eaten sushi in many different cities and this is by far the BEST I’ve ever had! I know people say that, but let me tell you, your mind will be blown! The flavors in each bite are out of this world! If you live here, this will be your regular spot. If you’re just visiting, do not miss the opportunity to enjoy these sushi masters!

Sushi Experience №56

I don’t say this lightly: this is some of the best and most inventive sushi I have ever had. The Bad & Buri roll was fantastic. The gyoza they offer was perfectly fine, but the sauce poured over the top was delicious, and I found myself dipping my roll in the remaining sauce. While there, I ordered the Crimes of Passion, which was great, especially as a lover of passion fruit, though I am easily pleased. However, this creativity and deliciousness comes at a price, one that people who frequent downtown will probably not be surprised by, even with the happy hour costs.

Going during happy hour comes with its own caveats, as we arrived promptly at 4 p.m. and had no wait, but by 4:45 p.m., every table was filled. This is a good indicator, in my opinion, of just how great their food is. However, during the latter half of our meal, it was increasingly difficult to get our server’s attention. All that said, I will gladly return for an amazing roll.

This place was an experience. Their sushi has a fresh taste with an original taste. As you walk into the place, you feel in what I would think a Japanese Sushi restaurant with a hint of punk. The atmosphere is relaxing... the decor is definitely refreshing. Their menu is all sushi, none of that fried stuff all fresh fish. Short and to the point. I ordered their eggplant nigiri, one piece. Just perfection, the sauce and the vegetable well balanced. Next came the seaweed salad, it was a salad topped with seaweed and cucumber pickled in rice vinegar. Delicious. Last but not least, the sushi, the seared top gave an experience for the senses the smoky smell, citrus sauce, and the spicy yet no ovelmig fusion of the roll was absolutely enjoyable. Now my husband did not have as good experience as I did, but then again he does enjoy the typical shrimp tempura, while I can do without. Thank you for a delectable experience, I will be back for more soon.

Turns out this is a pretty high-end type of restaurant. We went for a date there because it was the only sushi place open at that late hour. They didn't accept cash, which doesn't make any sense. The food was presented as high-end cuisine but did not seem particularly complex to me. I ended up getting a wicked bad overnight stomach ache, but that could just be from eating too much raw fish. Everything else was just fine but probably not worth the second trip.

This place was okay. Let's start positives, the atmosphere is nice, dimly lit with beautiful art on the walls. The drinks (lychee margarita and crimes of passion) were delicious! The menu is mainly sushi so it was disappointing considering their prices.

I was actually incredibly excited to visit this place, and was severely extremely disappointed. From the moment me, and my friend arrived, the host, standing outside, was very awkward, and gave me a really disgusting look when I asked if they had a table for 2.

I went at 4pm on a Wednesday. I got the feeling of racism without a word being said.

The server went to the menu way too fast. They take the time to explain things to you, but you have absolutely no time to digest everything that they’re saying from the specials to the signature dishes.

The entire process felt rushed and rehearsed. To top it off I look 40 years old and I was still carded for a cocktail.

Maybe I caught them on an off day or maybe you just have to be Caucasian to eat here but I did not like it one way or the other .

The minutes to midnight is a lovely take on an espresso martini. The miso soup had a lovely umami flavor and enoki mushrooms, wasn’t too salty and tasted delicious. The chili edamame are the best I’ve ever had, slightly sweet with a not so subtle kick and a smoky finish. The tuna two way roll is smooth with a tuna fillet on top that perfectly complements the spicy tuna inside the roll. You can taste the cucumber and the cilantro, with the avocado supplying a wonderful texture. The Ronin roll was fabulous, smoky eel on top with a crunchy candy like crunch from the charred teriyaki crust but not too sweet. Service was impeccable, I had barely noticed the plate was empty, and they were already coming by to subtlely sweep it out of sight. Phenomenal drinks, amazing service, one of a kind food. I hope they can keep up what they’ve created. So many places around Phoenix have snobby servers and have nowhere near the same quality of food that this place has. The service staff was so kind and welcoming.

My one gripe- Some of the rolls and nigiri come with a light torch over the top of the roll I wasn’t fond of. Gave off a strong butane taste to an otherwise delicious cut of sushi grade seafood. To the Chefs- This is caused by the torch either on too low, or flame too close to the meat. I hope adjustments are made, because otherwise everything was spectacular!

Me and my husband were visiting Phoenix and we went there on a Sunday at 9 pm (place closes at 10 pm). The hostess told me they had no seats available, although we could see a few vacant seats. She told me it would take 10-15 min and she put my name on the waitlist. We were waiting outside in a cold of 40F and the message never came. Around 10 pm there most of the food places were closing and we ran out of options to eat. COMPLETELY UNPROFESSIONAL. We could see the staff was overwhelmed, but in this case just say that you cannot receive anyone else. Don’t let them waiting indefinitely, that is completely irresponsible.

Long story short, we went to Palma just around the corner that made an exception for us because the kitchen was about to close, and treated us wonderfully. I recommend them instead.

A particular highlight was the Kyuubi Maki roll with the half seared half raw salmon with yuzu combining into an elevated version of sushi I have rarely found.

To patrons: Yes, it's pricy. Save up and visit once. It's totally worth it; specially if you want to impress someone ;)

To owner/chef: keep doing your thing and trust yourselves.

Food was so good it should be considered art! Best salmon nigiri I’ve ever had; the Kobe beef in the rice bowl literally melted in your mouth (and had a great citrusy afterbite that came out of nowhere) and the rolls were not only delicious but creative and the cuts of tuna were superb quality. Shout out to our server Miley for pointing us in the right direction down the menu and taking great care of us too! Will absolutely be back

Went there a week ago. The service was great. The menu was limited and food I ordered was okay. Nothing special. One thing I didn’t like is when I asked for wassabi, I didn’t know the wassabi was additional charge. I think this is the first sushi place was charging wassabi. Even high end sushi restaurants wasnt charging wassabi. I’m pretty sure it wasn’t real wassabi either. Wouldn’t recommended at all. It was okay trying for the first time.

First time here. Got seated inside. After ordering, hostess came and said she forgot she had a big table and wanted my friend and I to move. How is that our fault? So we asked if we had to move, could we move outside since it was super cold inside. She said “she would work on it.” We moved tables inside and waited to be moved outside. Hostess came back and said, “Are you sure you want to go outside it’s hot and I don’t want you to get too hot.” Obviously this made us feel uncomfortable. We already asked to go outside because we expressed we were cold. We were moved after sitting and ordering food. This was such. Terrible experience.

Food was so over priced and didn’t taste like anything special. $13 for for a small bite of Wagyu? Don’t waste your time.

This place is the definition of good vibes! The only thing one can hope for after a 13-hour work day followed by after-work happy hour plans is that there are zero speed bumps- Sake Haus delivered! Every member of staff wore a contagious smile and met every request with unburdened delight. I will return and spread the word, try stopping me!

Food was great however, one of the servers assumed that our ID was fake, called the cops on us and held us up for 20 minutes after we payed our bill. Wasted our time and the cops time. Didn’t give us any compensation for the waste of our time and made us miss out for the rest of our plans.

Great vibes when you come into this place and they make a damn fine cocktail. The bathroom is shared with the Pedal Haus so be prepared to walk a bit. They don't believe in drowning your sushi in wasabi and soy sauce so I appreciated that. However, the sushi wasn't that great or enough to fill you up for what you're paying. Nice addition to downtown Phoenix though.

The food was amazing! Quite literally some of the freshest, tastiest, and well curated rolls and sashimi I have ever had here in Phoenix. The quality is comparable to some of the highly rated omakase Michelin star restaurants in LA. Also… try the Wagyu roll you will not be disappointed. I paid $145 for two people but I happened to have ordered a lot of rolls and sashimi and we had alcohol also. 1000% worth it. I recommend the gold omakase (every single thing on the plate was incredible). PYT was amazing as well!

My GF and I went here on a first friday and the food was exceptional. We looked forward, for a month, to going back next time we were both in town. The food was still good, the reason not 1 star, but the waitress was horrible. Just an awful experience. She was rude from the very beginning of the first interaction and we were ignored completely, I had to track her down, she didn't look our way. Food was great, but she absolutely ruined the first date night we had together in a month.

TLDR: Best Happy Hour in PHX. Half off sake bombs, apps and maki rolls!

Vibe: 5/5. Located just north of downtown Phoenix, Sakehaus occupies the lower level of the Pedal Haus brewery. When you step inside, it gives off a modern izakaya vibe that is very inviting. The interior is broken up into 2 sections, the front being where the sushi bar is located and the back being more of a high table dining room. The back has larger communal style tables which is perfect for larger groups. During our visit, we had a party of 6 which easily fit at one of the back room tables. One oddity worth mentioning is that there are no bathrooms located inside Sake Haus. You will need to go outside to Pedal Haus brewing (located behind and above Sake Haus) in order to use the restrooms.

Service: 5/5. The wait staff was excellent from start to finish! We arrived at Sake Haus right when they opened at 4pm for their infamous happy hour and the staff was quick to get us seated and the first round of drinks. We ordered several rolls to share and they were all brought out relatively at the same time which was perfect. Overall, nothing to complain about here!

Food: 5/5. Sake Haus has a great menu that appeals to both classic sushi lovers and those that are looking for a modern take. As mentioned above, my group of 6 came for their infamous happy hour which includes half off maki rolls, appetizers and sake bombs. This is a fantastic deal and caters perfectly to the after work crowd. We opted to order every maki roll on their menu to share as well as every appetizer and we were blown away by the quality. The roll combinations were nicely thought out and generous in size. The sake bombs are also an amazing deal, as each sake bomb order is a 22oz Sapporo and a whole 10oz sake container! We each ordered one, so this was more than enough for our visit! Overall, if you are in the neighborhood looking for a chill place to unwind after work, Sake Haus will definitely fit the bill!

Sake Haus sushi is top notch, amazing flavor and balance all the way through. I had an old fashioned and for food I had the Shogun Roll and Ryujin roll and then moved on to the nigiri; seared yellowfin, seared salmon, and kelp infused whitefish. Everything was excellent, this has been my favorite sushi in the valley so far!

Very good chef centric sushi that is presented well and tastes the part. Well balanced dishes with the proper amount of acid to fat ratios. Had several of the specialty nigiri and the wagyu dumplings are just amazing. Everything was fresh, tasty and the atmosphere was great as well. They have a sushi bar or tables. I would highly recommend if you want high quality chef prepared sushi.

First experience was horrible & never going back. Walked up and the “hostess” was on the phone but completely turned her back to us without any acknowledgment. But when we started to walk further inside she then chased us to seat us. We requested outside- its a nice night. So why did it take over 15 minutes- no server, noone acknowledged us, brought out waters- nothing. So I got back up and tell the host we still dont have a server. One comes out a few minutes later and takes our order right away- 2 rolls. Fast forward another 15 minutes and my roll comes out- Hana roll. But we still had 1 roll coming so we sit and wait. Why did it take another 10 minutes, so we stopped the server and he said it should be coming out multiple times. Another 10 - he told us to give him 5 more minutes. After 10 more minutes of waiting still nothing. We cancel the roll with the host then we ask for the bill to leave. And since I ate it i paid for my roll but honestly the manager should’ve comped that off as well. Just ridiculous. Entire experience was bad- I understand handmade and we were fine overall waiting for our food but why not send it together? Why not start with the one that takes the longest first to get it out of the way? Now, Still hungry practically starving at this point I am heading to In n Out.

This was such a cool spot with a good vibe downtown. However, they don’t serve an extensive menu and although their sushi tastes wonderful and is super fresh, they price it accordingly. Serving sizes are small so you’d have to order appetizers or specials and numerous rolls to fill up which means you could EASILY spend close to $100/person (with a drink or two added in as well) to eat here. Additionally, the seating is limited and a bit uncomfortable; there’s bench seating along one wall that is small in width and super hard. They also offer bar stools that aren’t terribly comfortable either. The service was great though and the Chefs presented wonderful dishes. I’d recommend stopping here if you just want a little snack before hitting downtown.

This place will change how you feel about sushi and sake. The atmosphere, service, food, and drinks are all on another level. I usually wouldn't order anything but tuna at other sushi places but this one, anything you order tastes exceptional and takes your taste buds for a ride. Their sake is also epic! 10 out of 10, highly recommend, and will eat at again and again.

Was craving sushi and found Sake Haus. I got a roll with aguachile and it was sooo good. And then I got the whitefish one piece and it just melted in my mouth. So good. We sat at the bar and our bartender was so nice and friendly. My friend is gluten free and our bartender went above and beyond to make sure the kitchen knew to make super sure not to accidentally use contaminates. She was awesome. Waited approximately 30 mins on a Friday night which wasn’t that bad at all. Will definitely come back next time I’m in Phoenix.

Some of the best sushi I have ever had!

My friends and I went on a trip to Phoenix for a week, wanting to try as much of the local food and experiences as we could, and the food here was so amazing we came twice on our trip. The food was absolutely amazing, coming with its own sauces custom to each order. The staff was extremely friendly and polite. The atmosphere and decor was also very interesting and fun.

My only regret is that I live too far away to come back.

Sushi Experience №197

Pros:
-Very good Unagi Nogiri
-Good nori sake
-Polite service
-Involved management
-Very good Wasabi and ginger
-Wagyu bulgogi (special)

Cons:
- "Hip crowd" + no parking.
- No miso :(
- Cash not accepted
- Strict (less convenient hours)

Tip:
Sitting at the empty sushi bar. I guess all the hip cats find it intimidating and would rather sit shoulder to shoulder at the "actual bar". Although the sushi rollers wouldn't take orders I believe I got better service there because I was right next to the server station.

Detail:
I had walked by a couple times but they were closed (only open during certain times). They were open last night so I stopped in.

The place was packed and they were "completely booked" and "no places at the bar"?! I could see the sushi counter was open so I asked to sit there. They seemed surprised.

The sushi rollers were too busy to take my order and the servers were busy but a manager checked in with me and expedited things.

Service was quick and portion/presentation was nice. As a former Sushi roller my OCD couldn't let go that the nigiri were of very different shapes but they were good, tasty portions.

Overall a very nice experience. I would go back if it was less busy and would recommend to others.
