The service was alright, but it seemed empty. The kitchen was pungent, and smelled vaguely of rotten fish. It took nearly 30 minutes for 3 rolls, and most of it didn’t seem like it was meant to be cooked. Or maybe it was, either way, it wasn’t pleasant. Almost immediately after eating, I felt sick. I ended up finishing my roll out of peer pressure I guess, or hoping I wouldn’t offend the workers too much. Honestly, we should’ve just gone to our usual sushi place. Won’t be returning, questioning the safety of the food.

Super mids. Nothing was gross but our table was wobbly, service was very slow and unnatentive, and the place wasn't quite dirty but it didn't feel clean either.
The sashimi was cut poorly, and presented even worse. A real sushi chef would never just throw all the fish on top of each other with such rough cuts.
The rolls were either overpacked with mayo or empty containing nothing. Probably won't come back.

I called in an order 4 hours before pickup and they had no record of the called in order. And this isn’t the first time … last time we were dining in and waited over 1 hour just for appetizers and drinks .. had to cancel the rest of the meal. This use to be one of my favorite places … now I would not recommend this place if you want a good and organize meal.

The staff was friendly. The food was pleasing to the eyes and taste buds. My son really enjoyed the caterpillar roll. The Marilyn Mon Roll was really good too and funny to order. I chose the Typhoon which is a beautiful tower. Each layer was tasty in itself, but was a nice surprise when taking a bite containing all layers. This place is a cozy spot to have an intimate meal. The only downside that I wish they would have prioritized is cleanliness and safety. Our drinks were spilled when setting on our table that luckily did not get on us, but was on our table side our entire meal time. I was worried for not only the staff walking by so much, but everyone and ourselves who could have slipped. I did not want to move around my table to avoid stepping on it. They attempted to clean it, but still left a lot of liquid puddled up. I would recommend either a better mop to clean with one attempt or better effort. With cleanliness, this place would be a five star.

This was a great experience for me and my family. Are first time here clean greeted right away are server was very nice fast also knowledgeable about the food. Food was great we loved it. Mixed drinks was a little strong overall food and drinks it's a 4.5 stars out 5. Costumer service was 5 stars out of 5. We are definitely coming back overall its a 5 stars out 5 stars for us
Thanks Tommy for the great experience

We have made this our new Sushi place! After trying everything in the area this was the best quality+price+service combination, the sushi is always great, everything we have ordered from the bar (mixed drinks and beer) were perfect. We are always greeted with kind words and great wait staff, they have a pretty wide variety of rolls going from about $5-$14 ish range. Overall, haven’t had a bad experience yet!

We tried this place on a wimb. The restaurant had beautiful decorations. We were seated immediately. The waitress did offer to seat us closer to the TV if we wanted to see the game. We kindly declined. She immediately asked us our drink order and gave us menus. Speedy service is always a plus w this AZ sun. With in five minutes of us being there we had drinks and had our appetizers ordered. We unknowingly went in during happy hour and seen they had alot of rolls on special for that time.
We ordered a spicy salmon roll, a Philly roll & a Las Vegas roll. We also had 2 orders of salmon nigiri & an order of veggie spring rolls. The food took about 10 minutes to start coming out. We got the salmon nigiri & spring rolls first. The salmon was VERY thickly cut & it was Delicious! The ginger was fresh and rice was seasoned well. I will definitely be back for that. The spring rolls on the other hand, we both were not fans of. They definitely tasted like old grease and the inside was grey. I put that down after bite 1. We recieved the platter of sushi after another 5 minutes. Our Philly, spicy salmon & las vegas were on there. They are heavy w the rice on all 3 rolls. We started w the spicy salmon. The roll was great! The sauce on the salmon w the amount of rice was perfectly paired. It coated the rice in your mouth and spreads the spicy goodness all over. Every bite a new blend of flavors with a crispy crunch & snap of the seaweed. The Philly roll was ok to me. My husband loved the fact that they use a huge block of cream cheese in it but it honestly over took the entire flavor of the roll for myself. Our least favorite was the Las Vegas roll. The batter used was way too sweet for that type of a roll. We honestly took one out of the 8 rolls each and did not eat the rest. It almost tasted like a sweet corn dog batter but instead of a thick batter it's really thin. Either way, I did not enjoy the sweetness w the fish. We asked for our check shortly after and our total was $51 and change. Not to bad. We would try this place again in the future. I decided to give 4 stars because we had a great server and they were fast. Worth a shot. I definitely reccomend the salmon nigiri!!

Showed up on Sunday at 7pm and hostess informed us that they were not accepting any new customers as they were an 1 hour behind in service even though their website claims to be open until 8pm. This is a terrible business model and the management should be ashamed.

Nakama is a classic place to go around the area. The sushi rolls are good, the regular food menu is good, and they've got happy hour all day Saturday. Sometimes it gets busy with social folks at the bar or families at the tables, sometimes it is dead quiet and you're just hangin' with the staff.

Also ordered the lunch sushi special with a Las Vegas roll and added the crunchy roll. All were very nicely prepared and presented. We will be back.

Ordered food to go and took 20 minutes to get home.
Yakisoba had an off taste to it.
All tempura was bland. Green pepper tempera was odd tasting.
The popcorn shrimp was bland.
Rib eye was supposed to have wasabi. I assumed this meant as a side to mix in with the potatoes and vegetables. However, it was mixed in with the vegetables and was extremely mild.
Lotus, Lemon, and Lotus rolls were not acceptable. Huge rolls, brown avocado, and proportions were off.
Obviously, it would have been better if we ate in. We order out many times for Japanese food with other restaurants and this was our worst experience.

I love the concept. The red seating, dimmed lighting, and light background music really set the tone... a great place for first dates and date nights. I was able to mellow out and relax. Full bar. Great happy hour! Try the stuffed mushrooms! The dish is dense but delicious! Accessible parking and entrance.

We love the Lotus Roll it comes literally flaming hot! Just tasty and such a large enough portion for a meal. The egg rolls are delicious and huge! The fried rice and tempura shrimp area must! Good and strong drinks! I enjoy going here for my birthday for the tempura cheese cake! We go here often for ordering to go!

I am a server myself, so I try to be understanding. However, I draw the line at COCKROACHES and bad service. Elizabeth was our server, and she really didn't bother with being nice. Waved us to sit wherever ( the place was EMPTY ).
Elizabeth was very much on her time and not our time. She walked away immediately after I said my first starter, I had to call out the rest of my order as she was at the ziosk already. She looked annoyed.
After our appetizers, I'm looking around, and I see a HUGE COCKROACH on the white wall near one of the tables. I tell Elizabeth about the cockroach. She goes over and looks at me like I'm making things up until she spots it and slams her foot down onto it. She looks at me and says, "Oh, I see it now." She proceeds to sweep it up and walk into the back without a backward glance at us. Needless to say, I've lost my appetite. She brings us our entrees, not asking us any question, no offer of apologies for the cockroach display. I couldn't eat my basic orange chicken, and my husband hardly touched his bento box. Meanwhile, we can hear laughing in the kitchen from our server. We are still the only ones in the restaurant. She finally returns to ask us if we wanted boxes. I told her I couldn't eat my orange chicken and we wouldn't be taking anything home. She charges me full price for EVERYTHING. I asked her to take the orange chicken off since I didn't eat it. She gave me a look that suggested this was all completely my fault.
I came here with my family several years back, and it was a regular spot for me and my parents. So, I was excited to bring my husband here. I left feeling embarrassed and sick.

Really slow service. Manager apologized that the sushi chefs got backed up but that wasn’t a big deal. Being left alone for 30 minutes was more frustrating. It wasn’t overly busy so checking in if we needed drinks or any appetizer since the sushi was taking so long would’ve been nice. The manager did come over to offer some free edamame about 8 minutes before the sushi arrived.

Place was quiet. Workers nice and professional but, slow. Hardly anyone there and it took forever for food to arrive. Walked in and immediately seated, which was great. Food was decent. Not the best sushi I’ve had but, not bad. The rice was not as sticky or thick as I’m use to. First time I thought rolls were falling apart because they were wet (sauce) but, not the case. Today got 2 completely different rolls and each fell apart when dipped (basically crumbled). Again, I think it’s the type of rice used. Ordered a saketini that tasted like sugar water. This was the second time going this week by invitations from others and not sure when I’ll be back. So hard to find good sushi on the West side.

Let me start by saying that the food here is always great! But the management and service is awful. Went to dinner and they left one girl to be by herself on a Friday dinner service. The manager is just walking around while we sat for over 10 minutes without someone taking our drink order. And then when we were done had to sit 20 minutes waiting for our check. 1.5 hours total for 3 rolls.. the waitress was nice and apologetic but had to run all of her own food to every table, while the manager, bussers, and host were standing doing literally nothing.

WOW. Usually go here and has good food. Recently I have seen a decline in service and their servers/waiters being slower. Additionally I ordered some tuna and it can rotten and sour. Horrible! horrible! Horrible! Stay away and put a bit more effort in to go to another restaurant. Not the servers fault by any means. Food isn’t turned around quick and fish bought off black market. 😂

The food was good. I ordered a 4 piece chicken strip with fries kids meal, a spicy California roll, and a crunch roll, and a noodle bowl. The chicken was surprisingly crunchy and delicious, my 3 year old ate most of it. I really enjoyed the crunch roll but the other roll lacked flavor.
My only concern was the wait for food. The waitress mentioned it was a busy night, but it looked empty in my opinion. We did go on a Wednesday night so maybe it isn't normally as busy on Wednesdays. We waited 30+ minutes on egg rolls that my nephew ordered for his bday. Which was going to be an appetizer. The kids meals were out first, then 5 min later any plates ordered. I felt it was about 10 or 15 min after that, that we got the sushi rolls.
In the end we had a good time and enjoyed our good, but was a long wait.

My family are from Seattle WA and this is still one of the best tasting sushi we have had in a while. We went on a Sunday night, so service was a bit slow but it was not a deal breaker. The atmosphere was a little too dark for my taste, but it's large enough that it was not hard to hear each other over the rest of the customers. All-in-all, we will be back and it may be our new regular spot.

Visited here on a Saturday night around 8pm, and it wasn't too busy. Music and other guests made the volume a little loud, but not too much you couldn't carry on a conversation. Food was pretty good. They have a good variety of sushi, and the Dan Dan Noodles were great, plenty of chicken and veggies. The noodles did take a little bit to come out, but not a big deal. Server was excellent, very polite and visited frequently. 3 stars only because this type of restaurant is not my thing, but nothing really wrong with it. Will probably be coming here again when my wife gets a craving for sushi.

I can tell there was a chef change of some sort based on the variances in quality level, it was much better before. The lettuce wraps and fresh seaweed were phenomenal though. Try the santiago sauce for dippin your sushi. It was a little underwhelming the last time I had it, but I had it a week before that for my bday and it was fine.

The service was great and the food was also pretty good. My one star deduction is because they were out of things. My husband wanted a mule and they were out of Ginger beer. Another person wanted a mojito and they were out if mint. There was a couple of other things they didn't have which was dispointing.

Food is too expensive for 2 star rated food quality

Waitress/bartender was amazing and very friendly/concerned with our experience&food. Me and the wife eat half our meal and save half for lunch the next day so our waitress thought we did not like any of the food, but we loved it all!!! The sad thing was, like everywhere right now, understaffed and not able to give you the "real deal". We look forward to returning and re giving that 5 star review!!

Didn't bother trying the food. The staff is great but the website is a lie. It claims $6/roll. When in reality it's $17/roll. The place was empty during diner rush. Kinda speaks for itself

Awesome food (I’ve currently only had their sushi) and a pleasant serving staff. Recommend for any date nights

Staff was nice. It was sooooo slow. Food was okay, nothing fantastic. Felt a little old and run down. Too expensive for the quality.

Worst sushi place I been to, wait is long and they don't acknowledge you, the place is disgusting you can see dirt, foot prints and liquid on the floor, the waitress was super rude and the food was super mushy and bland. The crab puff was served on wet Lettuce like its been under the heat lamp and the condensation. Just overall bad. I will never go back. Plus two sushi rolls, two miss soups, one thing of crab puffs and two green teas cost 65 dollars. The waitress never even came over to check on us a diffrent waiter did. He was amazing.

It was okay the prices were good, but the place was a little dirty, and my sister who always eats California rules couldn't even stomach the California rolls. Our server was good.

Called restaurant to place an order the woman who answered very rudely stated they are busy and not taking phone orders and hung up phone. I have been getting sushi here for years and have never received this type of customer service. Thanks Nakama

Rice has no flavor and sushi is falling apart when I got home. I'm only 5 min away.

Their food is good and their saketinis are the best! I love coming here, especially during happy hour :)
The staff is awesome as well, very attentive. I've been here a few times and have never had an issue. I wish I could go more often but it's a drive for me. Well worth the trip though!

Service was terrible. Took a long time to sit us down and get our food. Everyone looked like they were so angry at the world. Definitely need more workers to help them out and maybe they wouldn’t be so stressed.

Waitress with dark long hair took forever to take our order forgot to give us our drinks, worst service ever and on top was giving us an attitude.

Food and service was terrible. My first water cup tasted like fish... The calamari tasted and looked like fish sticks. Then the sushi... all California roll based with different toppings. Every single roll fell apart. To top it all off, the owner was getting top tier service while we were getting ignored. I've had to ask for the server to come to our table to get assistance. She didn't come to check in or ask how everything was going.

Restaurants in 3rd world countries have better service. The calamari has the consistency of a tire that's been poorly breaded. The water taste likes it's from a pond. The seating is the most uncomfortable thing in existence. You would be better off grabbing a handful of dirt and shoveling it into your mouth than waiting the 4hrs here for food a stray animal wouldn't eat. This place is a embarrassment to the entire Japanese culture. It brings shame not only to itself but to Japan as a whole. The best thing this place could do is to close and give the space to the gym next door. They will clearly make better use of it than this place. Go eat gas station sushi before coming here. All of their rolls are Cali based rolls with different toppings. If you can't make actual sushi rolls or afford a chef from Japan to make your rolls then don't open a sushi restaurant.
They can't even find their silverware. They serve flatware. 80 dollars for food poisoning.

Best sushi rolls I have had on the westside! You will not be disappointed - great food all around. Service could be better but with every business short handed this is accepted nowadays.

Going to Nakama is always a treat!
We love the Lotus Roll which is served on 🔥, and the CMT roll - surf and turf sushi! The CMT takes a long time to make as they must grill it and then bake it, so I recommend ordering it right away. But the wait is worth it.
Tommy is THE BEST server anywhere and we are always happy to see him. He is super attentive and courteous every time! I swear, if he ever has bad days, you would never know it.
The only criticism I have, is that while the atmosphere is sleek and sexy, the place can use a little bit of sprucing up as it's showing signs of wear. But it doesn't really bother me as the food and the service is top notch! Definitely give this place a try.

We came here on a recommendation from my husband's friend, although I had been here previously in years past. Overall, not a great experience food wise. We started with the sampler platter which came with edamame, calamari sticks, egg rolls, monkey brains, and jalapeno poppers.
The calamari tasted... Off. A little sour. The egg rolls were a deep, dark brown and also tasted off. I'm not entirely sure of the filling, but they were far too greasy to have been tasty. The monkey brains had one mushroom. One button mushroom. There's are supposed to be mushrooms stuffed with crab mix. Not a button mushroom surrounded by crab mixed and battered in tempura. I'm not sure what the deal was with that. Overall, the edamame was the best part of this dish.
Once finished, our main dishes arrived. A sashimi salad for myself and beef yakisoba for my husband. Whatever spicy mayo based dressing the sashimi salad was in, it was swimming in it. Absolutely swimming in this dressing. It was a little impressive how much of it there was.
My husband's yakisoba was both impressively bland and dry while overly greasy at the same time. Again, not sure how that could be so bad.
We also ordered two sushi rolls. I ordered the Mechanic and he ordered a crunchy eel roll. Once they arrived we were excited as these two rolls looked impressive... Until the rice began to fall apart when we tried eating the Mechanic roll.
We go to sushi restaurants frequently and make them at home at least once a week. We wash and season our own sushi rice. This was just poorly executed all around. The crunchy eel roll was worse however, as the tempura coating on it was a deep brown and the rice inside a little too oily for our tastes.
In the end, we just asked for our check. After tip, it was an expensive $90+ experience we won't be repeating. I don't think I'd ever be able to recommend coming here to my friends.

After leaving a different sushi joint due to one of the rudest hosts I've met we landed here, and what a treat! We were immediately greeted by a couple friendly faces who seemed very happy to see us. The place was packed but obviously we'll managed as we were seated right away. The menu is a very unique mix of original dishes as well as the traditional sushi fare. We left after an amazing dinner extremely happy with our decision and will definitely be back! Thanks for your wonderful service and fantastic food!
