Upscale setting with polished granite tables, serving maki, sashimi & teriyaki, plus sake & beer.
The best sushi I’ve ever had in my life. The service is outstanding. The oysters were so good we had two orders of them. The 911 roll was perfect. The scallop sashimi fresh. It was a treat taking my husband after years of hearing about it. He said it was the best sushi he ever had also.

Stopped by for an early dinner while visiting Anchorage. There were plenty of tables, so was seated right away. Server immediately came over with water and menus. He did a great job throughout the meal as was very polite, prompt, and hepful.
While looking over the menu, started off with the Tempura Platter and Squid Salad. Both arrived within 10 minutes and were very good. The tempura was fried perfectly with a nice crisp on the outside, but not overcooked on the inside. The squid salad was pretty impressive too with nice chunks of squid with other veggies.
For the meal, ordered a few of the sushi combinations. These were a little higher priced than most similar sushi restaurants, but was worth the price. All of them had larger than normal slices of sushi that were cut thick too. The fish was very fresh and of good quality. Each was also well presented.
Overall, very good service and high quality fish. Prices were higher than normal, but was worth the price.

First time eating at this location. Sushi was good (although admittedly I don't have the highest standards), the ambiance was good and different (except the numerous televisions showing CBS for no reason. Date night doesn't need Big Bang and NCIS with no sound in all directions, minus one star), and the wine was filled to very very brim. The ceviche roll was interesting fusion, can recommend, we liked the lemon sliver on every bite.

We have been here several times and have always enjoyed our meals! We ordered the firecracker for an appetizer and it was amazing! We came in hungry after traveling for the day and we were quickly seated and taken care of. Our waiter was amazing and didn’t even have to write anything down when we ordered and we ordered 8 different sushi rolls. While we were waiting for our rolls to come out our waiter brought us all a cup of Miso soup and added rice to the miso for our kids which was very thoughtful. He also brought my husband and I a cup of salad that was also very fresh tasting. My husband ordered a coke and it came in a glass with the good pebble ice so that was a nice touch as well.
Our favorite rolls are the kiss of fire, 911, and the crunch. The crunch is great for kids, our kids devoured them. The kiss of fire is huge - comes with a lot of poki tuna on top that you could add to your other rolls as you’re eating.
We will definitely come back when we come to anchorage. Don’t let the outside fool you - this place is well done on the interior!

Hidden gem among all the many Sushi places to eat, we found this. Nice low key quiet atmosphere. Wait staff is real nice. They have a great menu to choose from, with take out options. Nice big place for family gathering or a quiet corner for a date. Great quality food. Bathrooms are real clean and neat. They had a seating drink bar. My husband loved the giant candy dish it was funny. A place we will certainly enjoy again.

Super nice design! Very very nice atmosphere and great service. Food was okay okay. Rolls and Nigiri Sushi - rice is too cold for me and break apart when I pick them up. Fish is fresh and too thick to handle. We also order chicken Katsu where the chicken is kinda dry.

My 5 year old daughter and I shared the orange chicken and rice plate and we both have been extremely sick the past two days with food poisoning. I’m so thankful my one year-old refused to eat the food. Chicken was super dry and gross. Will never go back.

My family decided to splurge on take out and really wanted sushi. First let me start by saying my kids california roll stunk and was fishey (there is no fish in the California roll). The mongolian beef was soooooo dry it was like beef jerky. The food didnt taste fresh. The jalapeno bommer and the 911 was the only decent things but they still didn’t taste fresh. I wish we spent our money somewhere else.

This was the best sushi place I've been too. Tonight I am very disappointed. I ordered California rolls with real crab. The crab was so fishy I threw up. There also was hair in my Wasabi. Be aware they are putting rotten crab in the California roll.

I usually order a California roll from them, but this time it tasted way off. Tasted like bleach? I thought it was just one piece but as I kept eating it, it tasted more like bleach. I was so disgusted I just threw it away. I called back and told them about it, they hung up on me because it was too busy. Never going back to that place again.

This used to be one of the best Japanese and sushi restaurants in Anchorage. I just had the worst sushi I think I've ever had. The spider roll had stale, slightly off tasting spider crab. The poke had almost no marinade on it, so was a pile of chewy blah ahi. Of the four sushi rolls ordered, none were good. Disturbingly bad!

The uni here is of the most excellent quality. This has become one of my highest tier of sushi restaurants in the state.
Highly highly recommended.
Update:
They charged our table as 5 people instead of 3. They automatically added an extra large amount for tip that we didn't catch until after we left. Our group are generous people and added a hefty tip for the dinner, but did not realize another hefty tip was automatically added because they entered it as group of 5, when it was clearly only a group of 3.
We do not believe it was a simple mistake and the people signing the receipt are very old, but also experienced. I will go back here only because of just how high quality the Uni is, but they won't come back here again. They feel scammed out of an extra large tip since our order was around 400 or so.
To the server who obviously was desperate for extra tip money, congrats don't spend it all in one place, though you definitely lost high paying customers. I'm only eating the uni at your place, nothing more and then promptly leaving to go to other sushi restaurants for a full course.
Yes the uni here is that good, there are no other sushi places close to that quality. Yakishabu has great uni, but not this level. There are no other sushi restaurants that have this nice of uni in this area, they all taste off, leave a weird aftertaste, old or of low quality.
Warning:
Always check your receipt before leaving this place. Scan the bottom part for extra people added in your group and extra tip. It's at the very bottom and buried in a paragraph, which frankly most people won't bother scanning right.

Absolutely best sushi place in Anchorage/Eagle River area! Wait staff are amazing, and def know their regulars. Food is spectacular, especially the Oysters as an appetizer. Place might seem dark when you walk in, but once your eyes get used to it it’s one of the nicest interiors in Anchorage area. Overall one of my favorite places to go, and would recommend it to everyone!

OK the food was okay i mean just okay. However it was a horrible experience. The female server who has red colour hair lacked maturity jn the way she handled the communicate with customers. She was beyond unprofessional and a horrible representation of the restaurant.
Without any explanation for the delay, we waited 40 minutes to receive our food. We also had to eat udon without a spoon, and wanted to ask for water but the server never checked our table. How is a person who doesn't know the meaning of service working in a service position?
Disrespectful, and her disrespect was very much so unwarranted. Management please address your issues.

Our airbnb recommended this sushi place and we are so thrilled we took it up! We were immediately sat and given a ginger salad-the best! Then they served a miso soup, which was is warm and wonderful-total flavor bomb. We enjoyed the tuna sashimi appetizer. Then the Kodiak and kamikaze rolls. The quality of fish here is top notch. The Kodiak was fried to perfection. The kamikazi was fresh and light-it had quite a kick to it!

Hello. Today we had sushi for the second time at this restaurant. I'm amazed how a good establishment can be ruined so badly by its employees. The food is excellent, the sushi is delicious, the miso soup is excellent. But! their waiters are 😵💫😵💫😵💫. we came in with small children, asked to be seated on the sofa, to which we received a displeased look and were told that everything was reserved, although they opened 5 minutes ago. then we managed to sit on the sofa, we were given a menu and the waitress disappeared for 30 minutes, she simply ignored us. She went around collecting menus from the tables, and didn’t even ask if we wanted to drink something. 30 minutes passed, we couldn’t stand it, we called another woman, they took our order, and when the order was brought (after 30 minutes), mind you, there were almost no people. They didn’t bring half the food, simply because they forgot! OMG. guys, change your employees, this is no good. we will not visit this place until there are normal people served there. it's horrible.

Orange chicken was dry, green beef was tasty but almost like jerky, tempura was good. Service lousy! The girl acted like we were an inconvenience. We asked for several options of drink & rice & she acted like she didn't know & said I don't think so rather than perhaps going and asking someone who would know. After getting our food we had to flag her down 3 times to get her attention & again she took minimal interst in our needs & acted put out. The music was loud whereas in the past it has not been so loud, we asked if they could turn it down just a little; didn't seem to happen. She delivered our bills & just handed them to us with out a thank you or come again or one word!

I personally enjoy the food and it tastes really well. I eat it on special occasions. Recently, I ordered the Kodiak roll which I always order but I discovered that they cut down on the amount of rolls. Before it was seven and now it’s five. Give rolls of sushi for $18? The food is not worth the amount of money.

The workers were fantastic, very friendly and nice and didn’t bother constantly. It was an ok atmosphere but there was also hardly anyone there and could hear every hushed conversation around and knew others could hear me. Otherwise the place is pretty nice. The food tho was not. We didn’t get soup or salad we saw at others tables. The sushi is comparable to fred meyer or carrs but smaller portions. After trying 3 rolls, with different fish, they all tasted and looked the same and lacked any real taste other than sweet. Maybe they put too much sugar in the rice or fish but it was not tasty. All 3 rolls were supposed to be spicy, but even with added wasabi it didn’t change the sweetness. Aside from paying $22 and $25 for $10 rolls the last reason for low stars was the 3 added fees on the check with no description, which is why I took off the amount of the fees from the tip. All and all I would go back for the sashimi as pre-game for another sushi spot.

I don’t typically write bad reviews but I hope this helps someone decide. It used to be great when it was next to moose’s tooth. We had a mid size party and food came at all sorts of different times so it was awkward. A party that came 10 minutes after us got their food before us plus it took 45 minutes before we all were able to eat and the Resturant was at 50-65% full. Service was not good because we weren’t asked for any refills, and had multiple different servers stopping by that had no idea what was going on or what some dishes were. Tuna nigiri was good but everything else was mid or bad. Bad shrimp, salmon had sort of a freezer burn-like after taste. The salad was pretty brown and tasted old.

I do not typically post negative reviews, because I don’t normally post positive reviews unless service is hard to match! My 9 year old has been reminding me to post a review about this place for the last 15 days because her experience was so bad. We came from Vegas and haven’t had sushi since May. My daughter was begging me to get sushi because it’s something we enjoy for daddy daughter dates. Found this place on instagram and if you’ve been to Vegas that’s the best way to find local eateries, so I thought I would try to apply this to our new home . We were met by an older Asian woman who sat us and barely made any eye contact while she serviced us throughout the meal . My daughter likes simple sushi (ie & shrimp tempura rolls) so I ordered two and gyozas for my 6 year old . The woman brought us miso soup and salad, when this happen she added rice to my daughters soup without asking us if this was okay, my kids were legitimately confused but just whispered to me “daddy I didn’t want rice in my soup”(I assumed this is normal practice for some children). I didn’t make a big deal because the whole time we were ordering she wouldn’t speak.. she would point and gesture , even rattling plates on the table at me, trying to communicate for me to use
One . My daughter said “ maybe she doesn’t speak English” then less than a minute later she’s talking across the room to a couple she is also waiting on, with a very pleasant tone. Was kind of weird but okay .. we are just trying to enjoy a meal. The sushi came out and it was very underwhelming, gyozas tasted very good .. but it was truly hard to finish the sushi. We did not want to complain so
We just ate what we could and asked for the check. When she came to collect the check she looks at my daughter and says” next time you get the California roll because you’re wasting food “ My daughter looked at her and said thank you for the advice . She did not ask if we enjoyed the meal she went directly to insulting a child . Easily the worst overall experience I’ve had with my kids in what was supposed to be a reputable establishment. My daughter left there wondering why she treated others better than us . We are African American service members , and I had to reassure my daughter that it
Might not be because of the color of our skin and some people just aren’t aware of how they come off … sadly my worst experience in anchorage

My first roll was $18 for the smallest and most flavorless roll of sushi I've ever eaten.
There's no consistency to how large your rolls are, since some people in my group had gigantic ones for a similar price. I had to order something different to actually get a meal.
Then they charged 20% gratuity without advertising it. Thanks for helping yourself to that.

This has been one of my favorite sushi spots in Anchorage for many years. I checked out their new location about a month ago and the service and food were excellent.
I do miss their location behind Moose's Tooth, but the new place is nice. The dining atmosphere is fine but I don't care for TV's in restaurants, it takes away from the ambiance.
It's been hit or miss with good customer service over the years, but nothing that would warrant not returning. I do hope Sushi & Sushi continues to do well in this location and that they listen to their customer feedback.

Do not go here. Its way to expensive for the quantity and quality of food you get. Also be noted they charge a service fee and on top of that they charge an automatic 18% tip for themselves no matter how big your party is. My partner got the kodiak roll and it only came with 5 pieces, I got an entrée and we got 2 drinks and we’re charged nearly a $100. That is absolutely ridiculous for what we got only being a party of two.

We’ve been eating sushi in Anchorage for 20 yrs, and certainly enjoyed sushi and sushi when it was behind the M Tooth (even before their fancy expansion long ago). Long time fans of Chong etc. We decided to dine in 05/23/23. We were VERY disappointed. My spouse ordered the salmon sashimi, she said it “tasted off”. How do you mess up sashimi? I tried it and it was “off”, not the usual buttery salmon but a strange texture and off flavor. My teenage aged son who ALWAYS devours sushi - didn’t even finish his Danny and McKinley rolls. That spoke volumes. Said they tasted “off”. I ordered the spicy poke roll. Meh. In addition- had some unagi and salmon nigiri. Again- it all tasted “off”. Unagi had an “old”/dry mouthfeel and yes the salmon seemed odd.
I had a feeling when they turned into Tosai, then back to sushi and sushi it wouldn’t be the same. And it’s not. For $250 go somewhere else with fresher fish and better flavors. HIGHLY DISAPPOINTED. Won’t be returning.

Good: service and speed of food coming to table, salmon sushi
Bad: shrimp on avocado mash bowl had ammonia taste, avocado mash was lacking flavor, fried chips with bowl had turned rancid. When we got one of our rolls with tempura shrimp and crumbles on top they were also "old" and bitter tasting. The server did remake the roll without the crumbles so we could eat it, again great service.
We have eaten at several sushi places in town and this was by far the most disappointing as far as flavor.

The food was so-so. The Yakisoba was light on sauce, half of what was brought out to us was no longer hot, etc. The waitress was nice enough but rather than take an extra step to give something to a person further down the table she just expected us to pass things. Not the end of the world and heck I do it at home but.. I don't tip for service at home either. Overall, I would go again if someone else was paying and there wasn't a better Japanese restaurant open.

First of all when did the prices skyrocket? I was completely aghast when i received the bill. I realize prices have gone up but this was ridiculous.
I’m guessing this is why their new menu doesn’t include prices.
Secondly the sushi was ok, not bad but not great.
Let’s just say I’ll be dusting off my sushi mat, heading to new sagaya for fresh fish and making my own from now on.

I went there tonight 01/29/23 to have a nice night. I ordered the beef teriyaki and some other items. When it arrived the presentation of the dinner was excellent. The first bit of the meat the flavors exploded wonderfully and tasted wonderful. However the problem was the meat was a bad cut and the first 4 random samples a complete layer of silver skin which made it impossible to chew. For the first time in 62 years I sent a dinner back. The waitress was so apologetic and I know it was not her fault. Somehow this bad cut of meat actually made it to the restaurant which it never should have. The next thing is it got pass the cook. These are items that need to be looked at by management. I was not mad nor upset and was actually very nice about the situation. They did bring me a chicken dinner to replace the other one at my request. I did leave a nice tip as I know things happen. After I got home and looked at my bill they billed me for the original beef teriyaki dinner which was $5 more. Ok, so I have to laugh too as I let it get by me before I left. I know they have a good reputation and the place is super nice inside and friendly staff. Cross my fingers that this was just a one off. Regards, Scott Stansbury

2023 update: Sushi and Sushi used to be our absolute favorite sushi restaurant, we've enjoyed their sushi for years, but some changes have happened over the last year that I feel are worth updating my review. Firstly, the prices have gone up a lot. I know everything is getting more expensive but menu prices have increased much more here than they have at other sushi restaurants in town. And second, on our last visit we were surprised to find they had added extra fees to our bill for credit card payment. The sushi here is still great but the pricing is outpacing the quality of both food and service which has pushed us to start patronizing other sushi restaurants instead.

Fantastic sushi and atmosphere! This is my favorite sushi restaurant in Anchorage; the sushi is delicious and the staff are super nice. The spicy poke appetizer is fantastic as well.

Inside was very modern and extremely busy for a Thursday at 4:00pm. Had a wait time of about 15 minutes which was fine. We ordered the orange chicken and two rolls of sushi. Chicken came out right away and was amazing, I think they forgot about us for the sushi though lol. Took like 45 minutes before I waited came over and realized we hadn’t gotten our food. She was extremely apologetic and brought our rolls out instantly which were very tasty. She even brought us some fried Oreos for free which totally made up for the wait time. I rate atmosphere, food and service all 4 stars. Pretty damn good but nothing different from other sushi places in town. Worth a try!

They were super racist and mean and there was no reason to be doing all of that. One bad thing a lady did was tell us not to order something because it was expensive and we thought that was very rude . I expect better service next time. I am really disappointed in you guys 😔

Nigiri and sushi rolls were amazing the rice was airy and light allowing you to keep eating after many rolls and soup and salad was provided. Free rice and soup was provided for my 2 year old. They have a mix of Korean and Japanese food both of which was delicious and authentic.

Paid a tip in cash and they still forged a tip on the receipt. First and last visit. Be very wary.

Outrageously expensive! Wow! Prices have doubled! Sushi pairs average $10 apiece! Have your wages doubled in the last 2 years? Salad dressing was old. Smelled old. Shrimp tempura was bland, service mediocre. Servers not as nice as used to be.

VERY SLOW SERVICE. Made a reservation for a bday dinner at 7:30pm for 7 people... got our sushi almost 2 hours later after asking kitchen and waitress 3 times what was going on.
We ordered all our drinks, and meals right away around 7:40 pm,
It took almost 2 hours for 6 basic sushi rolls and 2 small appetizers !
We had gone over to our waitress 3 separate times to see what was taking so long.
We did not even receive our side orders or appetizers until after our rolls came out which was after 9:20pm.
One individual in our group ordered the Kamikaze and said it tasted very fishy and like the fish had been sitting out for some time. (Maybe more than 2 hours since we were waiting for about that same time)
We spent well over $300 with gratuity and to be honest I am not sure if anyone in our party will be back. We all left so disappointed.
Super bummed and felt like a waste of money.

This place wasn’t horrible, but it wasn’t memorable either. When you first walk in, the ambiance and overall look of the restaurant is nice, calm, and chic. However, that’s the extent of the good. All the dishes and cups that I received (besides the actual sushi plate) were cheap plastic, which isn’t a huge deal breaker for me, but it was a strong contrast to how the restaurant presents itself with the atmosphere.
The salad that comes with the miso soup at the beginning of your dinner tasted like plastic, and the salad dressing didn’t taste much better, either. I ordered the Heart Attack appetizer, and the first piece was good, not very flavourful or spicy (as I was expecting it to be), but still good, until I got to the last piece which was so spicy I had to drink a whole cup of water to try and be able to taste anything else. I wasn’t expecting it to be inconsistent in the flavour.
I got the Tomorrow roll, but it was pretty bland, then extremely fishy in certain parts. I tried dipping it into the soy sauce they have there to see if that would help, but the soy sauce tasted old? Not quite right? Either way, it didn’t help the flavour of the sushi roll.
Overall, this restaurant was giving me strong Ronnie’s-knock-off vibes, as well as them having a few of the rolls from Ronnie’s as well. In my opinion, Ronnie’s and Ronnie’s 2 are of much higher quality all around, more flavourful, and definitely worth the price compared to Sushi & Sushi.

Slow service, their primary focus is on take-out orders, which of course make people who are dining in have to wait longer for their food!!

Sushi may be decent, but service is horrible. Ordered food 45 minutes in advance. Got there to pick it up, and they said it wasn’t even started and that it would be another 45 minutes and that I should leave and not wait there. Called to cancel a few minutes later on my way home and they said, sorry, you can’t cancel because it’s ready. Zero effort to compensate the trouble or apologize. Went through 3 different people before someone could say order wasn’t even started.
UPDATE: service AND sushi are no good. They try way too hard and put too much into every piece. Sushi is super mushy and the tuna and crab and different meats are more of a mashed meat than a fresh cut of meat. For the price, you’d expect quality. Not my style.

My favorite sushi place I've found so far in Anchorage. They have great sushi and all their other food is delicious too. The mongolian beef is a must try. The waitstaff is amazing too and really takes care of you.

Great atmosphere, don't judge a book by its cover; super clean, family oriented restaurant feel with huge portions of fresh fish.

Had a house Yakisoba and it was flavorful. My son ordered the fried rice and it was pretty good. I really didn't like the Miso soup tho. The place is big but it's a bit too dark for my liking. I'll recommend.

Personally I think that they're green beef is one of the best entrees in all of Anchorage and this isn't very well written but I wanted to say something that was self-aware enough to make it seem like I wasn't a bot because swearing that I'm not a bot is not a good way to say that I'm not a bot. Anyways if you do go there I recommend the green beef also their atmosphere is excellent and me and my mom have never had a bad time going there

Sushi & Sushi dropped quality since they moved to their new location. Aesthetically it's beautiful however, the food was cold and disappointing. Too much money for cold food RIP 🍣 & 🍣!!

Waitress was older , briefly , while walking past our table , asked " everything ok " no intention of stopping or addressing any questions. I needed salt but was NEVER asked anything about my menu choice . Will not return . We wanted dessert but was not asked , the bill was placed on the table and our time was def up .

Terrible service, had to ask for utensils and chopsticks, had to wait 20 minutes for someone to come and even take drink orders, and had to wait another 20 for food orders, food was overpriced and not very good. We ordered oysters as an appetizer, ate most, and as we were eating the staff tried to take the food away, and when confronted stood with their hands on the tray rushing us to eat our expensive oysters with no privacy. The sushi was dry and not cold, and chicken was dry. Overall it was a terrible experience and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone considering it.

Came here for my birthday dinner. The sushi was alright, but the service was really great. In my opinion it’s just way too overpriced & some of the sushi didn’t taste as good as I thought it would.

This was very disappointing and I will NEVER go back! My Sushi roll was dry, and flavorless, and that was the best part of our dining experience. The service was absolutely horrible, the waitress was extremely rude, and we were made to feel very unwecome with my special needs son. I was disappointed and offended by the entire experience, and I wouldn't recommend Sushi Sushi to anyone even if was the last food on earth.
